Comment Goodness On The New Blog!
Hi, Snoskred here. Just wanting to let you know about a couple of features available here on the new blog which you may not have found yet.
1. Subscribe To Comments.
*WARNING* – We get a lot of comments here so if you choose to use this be aware you’re gonna get a lot of email.
When you make a comment, there is a little tick box at the bottom of the screen, just below “Submit Comment”. If you tick it, the blog will send you email anytime someone else comments. Yes, no need to sit here refreshing the page anymore, just keep an eye on your email inbox to see what is being said.
And here is a nice graphic with pink text for you.
Once you have subscribed to a thread, you can manage your subscriptions by clicking on “manage subscriptions”.
This will take you to a WordPress screen which looks like this – click on the image for a larger view -
There are instructions for this screen on the image, so if you want to know how to use it you’ll need to click.
2. Edit Your Comments.
You now have the ability to edit your comments for 10 minutes after you have posted them.
Just click on your name or on the comment. You will then see the following -
Once you have finished editing, click save. Or you can click cancel, if you find you don’t need to edit after all.
3. Comments Disappearing
On the old blog there were a lot of issues with comments disappearing. We may continue to have this problem here as we are using Akismet, which is the spam trap your comments were falling into. However, here we don’t have pages long spam to scroll through to find those comments, so it should be quicker and easier to pull those comments out of Akismet.
If you have a comment that goes missing, please do not post it again and again. Please wait patiently for us to grab it out of Akismet. I will be helping AKMuckraker with this and checking it several times a day.
If you have any questions about how to use the blog, please post them in the comments of this post, or use the Contact screen to get in touch. I hope you enjoy the new Mudflats!

I’m first, yay!
Anyway, thanks for letting us edit the comments. Great feature! I feel a little bit like John McCain now, like I can go back in time and change history!
Keep in mind you can only edit for 10 minutes after your comment was posted.
It’s not a permanent time machine, sort of like a limited time only time machine.
LOL!
I love this blog!!! Thank you! I can’t wait to see the next new post in my reader!
Nice New Blog!
AKM – I assume you’re going to the rally tomorrow. Will you give us a full report? With pics? thanks!
Thanks Snoskred!!
Oh, oh….can we still personalize our avatars? How do we do that?
Snoskred, thanks much.
wonderful, indeed.
i’ve tested the edit.
happy am i….
and it’s really a hoot to watch the timer count down.
Yes, there is a way to do the avatars via Gravatar.
If you want a specific snowflake image, you will probably have to save it to your computer and upload it as the image. If you want something personalised, you can have that also.
Sephy wrote a post about it a while back with instructions on how to set up your gravatar.
How to – Set Up A Gravatar
Also, if you have an account with wordpress.com. you can set your gravatar up in there.
Go to “My Account” and then “Edit Profile” and you will see a section for your picture.
You need to use the same email address here as you do in your profile there, apparently. I have not tested this yet but I am about to when I hit submit comment!
THANK YOU, Snoskred!
Guess I should update my link on my blog too…so people can find you through me. If anybody finds me that is
I clicked to have what I thought were answers to my comments sent to my e-mail, but, YIKES, I got hundreds of e-mails. How do I unclick? I do like the feature to edit!
Love the edit feature. In my haste I sometime miss words or spell them wrong[which I hate!]
Also, I prefer this to the forum…it’s how I first posted on mudflats and I like it here.
Looks great-thanks so much. I swear this site has saved my sanity all month.
my goodness! you guys are amazing! Thanks for all this techno stuff, i hope i can figure out how to use it. I’m sure if i have a problem, i’ll have plenty of help with all my new mudpuppy pals!
Thanks again
Hi from South Carolina , I’m enjoying your website. The people of Alaska are so creative I’ve really enjoyed reading the homemade signs from this rally and also, the previous rally. You guys keep up the good work and let’s all remember a man I don’t know but what I’ve read is a decent and honest guy Walt M.
