McCain-Palin – How Low Will They Go?
With every day bringing new cringe-worthy gaffes, inadequacies, and (R)evelations (Biblical and otherwise), the McCain campaign is getting desperate. They’ve tried just about everything to postpone, or lessen the carnage of the looming bloodbath that will be the Vice Presidential debate this Thursday night.Plan A – Change the rules of the debate. Give the candidates less time to talk, and less time to talk TO each other. If Palin has 25% less time to talk, she will embarrass herself and her party…..25% less. That’s the theory anyway. Plan A has been implemented.Plan B – Economic meltdown. Play it so that John McCain is “the only one” who can solve the crisis, and suspend the campaign so he can. Push for the Presidential debate to be moved forward to take the place of…..wait for it…..the Vice Presidential debate! This allows for the VP debate to be postponed indefinitely! It’s so crazy, it just might work… Except it didn’t. Barack Obama called McCain’s bluff, showed for the debate and forced McCain to participate or risk being upstaged by a nationally televised Obama Town Hall meeting. (McCain campaign lifting collective fist to the sky…”Noooooooo!”)
Plan C – While looking for another way to stall the debate, giving Palin more time to memorize those index cards of talking points, create a diversion for the press. Because right now, the press is not a friend to the McCain campaign. The Couric interview was an epic disaster. Obama won the first Presidential debate, according to most Americans. McCain is looking dangerously physically run-down. Even Alaskans have had it with their governor, and were out in droves Saturday, protesting the stonewalling of her ethics investigation. Op-ed pieces from the left and from the right have been unflattering to say the least. Hmmm….how to divert all this negative press coverage….*lightbulb*
In an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.
Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. “It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”
Because, as we all know, that’s the definition of a “fantastic” wedding.
Awwww…..Don’t they just look so
in love….freaked out and miserable? And there’s something about a tattooed engagement ring…So, if Plan C is indeed a shotgun wedding, what does this mean? Will the press, as the McCain campaign hopes, make this the Alaskan hillbilly version of the Prince Charles/Lady Diana nuptials? Will they have to suspend the campaign so the parents of the bride can participate? Will that shotgun fit under Todd’s tuxedo without looking conspicuous?
But more importantly, if the press does turn its lascivious, million-eyed focus on the young lovers, will this actually be a good thing for McCain and Palin? Or, will the nation have its head held, and be forced to watch as these two young people, who never asked for this kind of attention, become a sideshow attraction as they are paraded in front of cameras, and become political pawns in a chess game they don’t want to play? This plan may backfire.
How does the proud papa-to-be, Levi Johnston, feel about the situation?
The ice-hockey player wrote on his MySpace page he was a “f***ing redneck” and stated, “I don’t want kids.” But a McCain insider predicted he would marry Bristol whenever his future mother-in-law wanted. “It’s a shotgun wedding. She kills things,” the source joked.
Ha ha. Let the marital bliss begin.
Although several sources are already reporting on this, no one has speculated yet about where this wedding might take place. We all recall how Sarah, wile pregnant and in labor with her infant son Trig, admitted that she hopped two commercial airline flights, and bypassed hospitals in Dallas, Seattle, and even in Anchorage, so she could deliver the high-risk baby in her home town of Wasilla, Alaska. “First Dude” Todd Palin explained jeapordizing his wife and unborn child’s safety by stating, “You can’t have a fish-picker from Texas.”
So where do we suppose the wedding will be? Todd? Can you have a shotgun wedding in D.C.? Can we Alaskans expect yet another media circus for the “Bristol ‘n Levi” wedding? Join me as we spiral our way down into further depths of the painfully tacky, brutally opportunistic, Machiavellian nausea that is the McCain campaign.
*h/t to Crooks and Liars for the photo.

I was just getting going on a response on the Bedtime thread about Sarah’s trade missions to Russia! Will post it here when I find what I posted last night on another thread. Sounds like Sarah has another “mission” right now – to bypass the debates and get her preggers daughter married for all the world to see.
I suppose we can’t have the happy couple elope – like Sarah and First Dude did when she was pregnant!
Boy have you EVER seen too unhappier looking kids? What a farce.
I understand Bristol will turn 18 on October 18 – a Saturday.
bristol will be 18 on October 18th – legally independent with a lot of earning power!
Noooo! Please don’t make us live through a week (or more) of blabbering about a wedding EVERYONE knows is a farce.
If she prostitutes her daughter in this way shame on her.
I don’t believe they will get married to save the campaign. I understand why they have to pretend they plan to marry, for the sake of the campaign, but I don’t believe Sarah would force her daughter to actually get married. JMO
This CAN”T BE SERIOUS!! If the McCain campaign is willing to go to these extreme lengths for such a bizarre stunt, their internal polling must be really freaking them out.
Besides, when did conventional wisdom decide that a shotgun wedding a good thing?
I feel sad for those kids. It’s one thing to marry young when you both want it, pregnant or not. But a shotgun wedding with the whole nation watching during a presidential campaign … ugh.
EECH ! This is why I don’t watch soap operas.
I can entertain corruption, lies and malfeasance, aggressive ignorance, rabid stupidity, but dragging the family into it is just too ugly.
Oh those poor kids…
By the way, I don’t know if you guys have seen it, but here’s a link to Sarah Palin: The Movie. lol it’s a riot. http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1831461

The McCain campaign is all excited about this and, if any of us make a big deal about it, claims that we are a bunch of idiots for bringing the children into this and that the family should be off limits. Damn hypocrites…can you imagine if Chelsea had been pregnant out of wedlock?!
Ron
This is child abuse. Maybe when she turns 18 on October 18, she’ll register to vote and vote Obama. Poor child.
This shockingly foolish couple badly needs guidance and instead their elders supply them with self-serving drivel. They are nothing more than pawns, who will most likely struggle for the next several years to figure out what happened to their childhood and their future, finally coming to the realization that no one really cared enough to make a sacrifice in their best interest. This is what happens when parents don’t put their children first.
Instead of welcoming a new baby, these two should be entering college, with the hope of adding to the productivity of this country. We have enough incompetent parents and we don’t need two more.
It is every parent’s moral responsibility to send out into the world productive members of society, not poorly prepared, vacuous deadwood.
Now I feel better.
Thought we lost you there for a while, AKM. Some (or all) weren’t able to open the new home page… had to go back to the original site for our fixes!
I read earlier today about the ‘wedding’. If she yet again parades the family in front of all of us, what do we say then? Nice flowers? If the MSM treats it like any other ‘celebrity’ wedding, it would (and SHOULD) take up about ten minutes on ET or Inside Edition! My condolences to the hosts of those shows in advance.
Countdown to Saracuda’s ‘No-Show’, for WHATEVER reason…
3 days, 23 hours, 44 minutes…
There could be a Plan “D”. Suppose Bristol is not really pregnant, and that story was just a ruse to deflect the original rumor that Trig is Bristol’s son? In that case we may see Plan “D” which could be that Sarah has to rush back to Alaska next Thursday because Bristol is having a (fake) miscarriage. Obviously, if Bristol is not really pregnant, then there has to be a “miscarriage,” and the only question is the timing.
I know we are not supposed to talk about the kids, but… I feel sorry for them, they are being exploited on the national stage for what? I can not believe any parent in his or her right mind would engage in this behavior. Again, for what? I foolishly believed that exploiting children was against the law. Must be another Palin exception. Reprehensible behavior. Rant over.
Oh, and that Todd Palin quote, “you can’t have a fish picker born in Texas”? So, Todd’s not worried about his wife’s health or his child’s heath, just by God it better be born in Alaska? I was raised to believe that a child born ANYWHERE is a blessing and a reason to celebrate.
Can we PLEASE quite disparaging hillbillies when we talk about Palin Family antics?

Stop lowering the expectations!! You all will hand Palin a victory in media land if she manages not to drool and shoot Joe Biden.
Really. She isn’t THAT stupid and if we all fall for this right wing tactic, Palin will come out the winner.
Please, let’s RAISE the expectations. She was a newscaster and is VERY comfortable in front of a camera talking extemporaneously. She is expected to do a terrific job on Thursday.
It’s Joe BIden’s tendency to stick his foot in his mouth I’m worried about.
@ Steak Leather …can you imagine if Chelsea had been pregnant out of wedlock?!
The republicans seem to be the only ones that could/would spin this into a fairy tale type story. I really feel for the children of this woman, she seems to truly not be a very protective of them in this regard. Of course, we’re jumping to conclusions, maybe this won’t happen.
@Richard Rush —-I’ve been expecting the miscarriage too.
Well-thought out site on the Palin pregnancy(s?) – link below – it was first posted here a few days ago. Seems to me like there are so many excellent questions about who Trig’s mother is that it would be risky to open this up again by bringing Bristol back into the limelight.

I think that something will happen this week to cancel the VP debate. Somewhere I read…I think it was a link to an Ed Schultz comment…that the McCain campaign had staged a mock debate and a mock interview and both were disasters. Something is going to happen, probably tomorrow or Tuesday, that will keep Sarah Palin from participating in the debate. It’s got to be something so shocking that the Obama campaign will not be able to say…okay, well, we’ll be there anyway. Maybe some health problem with Bristol or the baby. But I think the debate will not go forward. I hope I’m wrong, but……
(sorry) Jesus H!
This could, of course, get SWWNBN out of the debate this week…I, too, am a mother of the bride next month–did I mention that she is 32, a dentist, not pregnant? But that’s just me and my four kids… for whatever that’s worth!
Dianna? I don’t think so.
Brittney? Maybe.
Tacky? undoubtedly.
I have tried, really hard, for over a month to not say this…but it’s erupting out of me…can’t stop it…trying…can’t contain it… both hands over mouth…but here it comes…TRAILER TRASH!
i have seen this story on several sites now and i refuse to believe it. i’m calling 100% bs on this one and boy do i hope i’m right. like akm asks, “how low can they go?” hopefully, not this low. the linked article reads more like the kind of silly talk colleagues would have among themselves rather than a serious tactic from the campaign.
I think this shows just how out of touch McCain and his campaign staffers are if they believe that this new campaign “suspension” will help them in any way. I think that George Will and many other conservatives will have something to say about this, not just the liberal media. I believe people are catching on to their manipulations. This would clinch the deal for that. Someone is seriously idiotic if they try to sell this one. It would be a new low if the media does in fact cover the event. I doubt the likes of George Stephanopolous would stoop so low– maybe Geraldo would attend with the People magazine writers. Ugh!
Thank God, we’re back!
The map, the map (reminds me of Herve Villechaize (Tattoo) from Fantasy Island). I would love to see a side by side of when it first went up and how it looks now. Wow.

So’s my beloved brother and his brilliant wife. They are Endurance riders—horses that ride 100 miles in a day—and they, like you, are awesome!
Ye Gods! now we have pregnancy conspiracy theories. These kids are pawns in a disgusting situation. Regardless if there is or is not a pregnacy, their lives have been dragged before the world. imagine if it was your family. Would you really be that selfish to expose your children to ridicule and yourself as bad parent of the year? Plus these folks brag they are Christians. Is part of their doctrine Power above family at any cost.? In another time Sarah and husband would have been thrown out of the church and banished from the community. Shows how low church morals have fallen and how many in our society think its OK.
ACK!!! You know what else October 18 is this year? ALASKA DAY!!! I gotta find a description for ya’ll.
From Wikipedia:
Alaska Day is a legal holiday in the U.S. state of Alaska, observed on October 18. It is the anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States which took place at a flag-raising ceremony at Fort Sitka on October 18, 1867.
Alaska Day is legally observed statewide, and is a paid holiday for State of Alaska employees. The official celebration is held in Sitka, where schools release students early, many businesses close for the day, and events such as a parade and reenactment of the flag raising are held.
I don’t think there is any way they could use a wedding excuse to get her out of the debate. No one would buy it. Look how pressured McCain was to show up for the debate – even though Johnny was trying to save the economic world with his phoney campaign suspension.
No way. If she uses that excuse then it is to pull herself off the ticket, period.
I really feel bad for these two young people. Being a teenager is bad enough: throw in a pregnancy and world-wide attention and that’s a blueprint for disasater.
I pray that her parents come to their senses and keep then out of the limelight. But then again, that would be too much like right so it’s not going to happen.
Here’s a cool link the the Alaskan city of Sitka….some nice historic infor for you history buffs
http://www.cityofsitka.com/alaskaday/index.html
Wow, this is really low. Using her children like that. What happened to asking the press to leave them alone?
Im pretty sure this falls under the “stop sensationalizing the kids” right?…i mean TELEVISING a teenage wedding?…
un-be-live-able.
They are likely going to have a dinosaur. It will be the modern day equivalent of the immaculate conception. Then we will all be very sorry we questioned the judgment of the chief authority on the Palinolithic Age, who believes that men coexisted with dinosaurs. She has yet to opine on whether we coexist with little green men and ghosts, but there is certainly a body of credible evidence to support both on a par with the truthiness of the footprints Sarah bases her cosmology on. I can’t believe that even a part of what I am writing is true, but it apparently is. Got to go – time to go make some more plaster casts of my foot in a fake dinosaur track.
Whatever they do will be dramatic…they need to divert attention from their flailing campaign. There could be no conceivable reason why Palin would plan an impromptu wedding during the last few weeks of this campaign…other than for more drama and a diversion. Don’t you think that at some point even the most star-struck hockey moms are going to see through her manipulations of her children? I suppose the children will spend their honeymoon on the campaign trail too? What a great start for their marriage that is already doomed for failure. I’m beginning to really, really despise this woman. It’s just one more stunt from her bag of tricks.
What is wrong with this McCain camp also? They are obviously scraping the barrel to save this election…all I want to do is scrape their BS off my shoes…
Hmm, I wonder if the bride will wear white…???
I so want to see this b*tch give her concession speech…..and go back to Alaska and never hear her name again. McCain should be tarred and feathered for this scheme to save his candidacy.
The idea that Bristol Palin’s wedding “would shut down the campaign for a week” is delusional. Really delusional. Call the asylum delusional.
This doesn’t surprise me in the least. There isn’t a tactic or ploy the campaign wouldn’t employ to keep the shine on the veep candidate.
Of course, I don’t understand how a media wedding for 2 kids (yes, they’re kids), who are expecting a child they didn’t plan for is something that polishes Sarah’s image, but I’m a NY liberal, so what do I know.
I really feel for these kids. Smile when you’re told. Obey without question. It’s a good thing the country (voters willing) won’t have to do the same. My smile will never be bigger than when I cast my vote for Obama. Maybe I should send the happy couple a pic of myself voting so they can include it in their wedding album.
I could never, never do this to my daughter. For one thing I would not let her get married at 17 pregnant or not. When she was 18 she could do as she pleased but I was not going to be involved in making such a life changing decision for her when she was under age. But that’s beside the point as my daughter is now 30, still unmarried, and never was pregnant. Too bad it is too late for Bristol to take her time making these choices but I personally think the getting pregnant was a form of passive rebellion against two overbearing and at the same time uninvolved parents. I know that’s an oxymoron but that’s how I view the Palins’ parenting style.
From the photos it is clear Bristol is a very unhappy girl and it doesn’t look like either is eager to marry but to have to do so before the whole world is just plain cruel. If she can just hold on till her birthday on October 18th she can tell both of her parents to shove it and skip the wedding that will surely lead to a disastrous marriage and probably an ugly divorce just like her Auntie’s is. I’m just sayin…
Mother of the Year.
Agreed that these kids need some privacy to sort out the next few years of their lives — individually and together. Agreed that a made-for-TV wedding would be the height of both tackiness and poor parenting and a sign that McCain’s campaign is truly desperate to get some positive attention for SP. Whether such a spectacle would provide that positive attention for anyone other that the already-committed is debateable.
But, in a partial change of subject, here’s an intriguing piece on the degree to which we the people are bypassing the MSM for candidate info. It also enumerates the kinds of searches. Very interesting.

Careful, Dazzler
We don’t want her to go back to Alaska either. Alaskans–demonstrated yesterday–don’t deserve her either!
As the mother of a 16 year old girl, I’ve always been appalled that Palin would do this to her child, put her in the spotlight in such an awkward situation.
If they stoop this low, I will be truly horrified.
Might I suggest that Bristol and Levi become temporary snowbirds (because all our snowbirds come from Wasilla) take a greyhound bus to Pahrump NV and elope? Kids…just so you know … if you can come up with $500.00 you get a limo ride to the county clerks office then to the chapel (we have 3 here) paid witnesses and a ride back to the Nugget Hotel and Casino…for an extra fee they even take video for you and don’t forget to tip the minister…bon apetite
We are less than a week away from the VP debate. There won’t be a wedding that quickly- I shouldn’t think. A medical emergency? possibly.
If the daughter is 18 soon, she can make her own decision about whether to marry or not. Though I would imagine the wishes of her family would be considered deeply. But the groom to be must also agree. He can be made to support the child, but he cannot be made to marry. Time will tell.
I actually think the debate will go forward, because I think the campaign and the candidates are delusional and do not think she will fail.
And the more these kind of stories are out there (the McCain campaign hoping to shut down the campaigning) the more desperate and unqualified he looks. It will be seen as the pathetic attempt that it is by most Americans.
So by all means- keep repeating this story!
On another topic- ABC did a piece on how fundamentalist christians are “ok” wiwith Palin being VP ore even President… but she CAN NOT be a pastor in their church.. HUH!? (head spins around) that logic just completely excapes me!!! LOL
This idea of diminishing women, marginalzing women is disturbing and despicable… remind you of any other fundamentalist religious approach to women????

Excellent idea! Nevada is a swing state.
After the idiotic campaign “suspension” I fully expect even higher drama from McCain. Bristol’s 18th birthday would be perfect for a surprise (ha ha) wedding, and just close enough to election day to make sense, if you live in that surreal McCain-Palin alternate universe.
On another note, I’m so excited to see that Nate Silver at 538.com now lists Virginia as “likely Dem”. Progression beginning last spring: Likely GOP – Lean GOP – Toss-up – Lean Dem – Likely Dem! I don’t presume that it’s ONLY because of all the awesome volunteers in Northern Virginia, but I must say we have been out IN FORCE for weeks now.
Obama’s gonna win!

Or a Plan E – announce the wedding, get everyone fired up, then cancel it due to the miscarriage. High drama. Genuine distraction. We should write soap scripts
Can’t see that swaying independent or undecided voters, though, and it’s McCain who needs to move opinion – if everyone’s distracted and the polls stay as they are, he’s toast.
It makes me very sad that the campaign has discussed possible wedding plans of the kids. It makes me sick that they speculated on it’s effect on the campaign. It makes me doubly sick that they can view it as a positive for the campaign (even if true.) as if the kids are mere tactical tools.
And I’m back to being sad that this is being discussed. I understand the issue of what the campaign might do/like to do. I suppose that’s fair game. Maybe it wll shame them into backing off.
But I think branching into what the kids should do/want to do is terribly unfair to them. Being unwed and pregnant is tough enough without millions of people commenting on what you should do, how you look, guessing whether or not you are really in love. I know. Her mother put her in this position, but that’s no her fault, or his fault.
How would being 17 rather than 18 mean that you would not have a choice about whether to marry? Can any Alaskan parent FORCE her 17 year old daughter to marry? That seems highly unlikely. (I can understand if the parental consent to marry was required). In any event, Levi is already 18, so he could always tell them to shove it and you can take care of the maggot. (Loved working my Palin name in there!)
Failingest ticket ever. Yeah, she’s all sorts of dumb. And what she lacks in intelligence and good decision making she makes up for in lies and baffling logic. Absolutely aggravating to watch her politic.
But, give Levi a break..everyone writes crap on their MySpace when they’re kids..especially when they’re self-professed redneck kids from Alaska. Too bad he’s reproducing and far from parental material but you know..he’s a dumb kid. And that site makes you put a ‘Children’ status..quite different from stating one doesn’t want to have kids.
I was really struck (and not in a good way) by this video interview/debate with Palin speaking about her views on abortion, even in the case of rape:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/27/vice-presidential-debate_n_129907.html
Who could have predicted at that time that her daughter would become pregant…
Ah yes… the medical emergency will be it.
Bristol will have a miscarriage and lose the baby. Sarah will have to pull out of the race and McCain can replace her with some one with brains.
Perfect.
Not a wedding. Sarah will continue as VP. The repubs need to get rid of her. She will be forced out, through an emergency like Bristol’s miscarriage.
I agree, Richie. This thing doesn’t pass the smell test, to quote Letterman. And the Times of London doesn’t always view politics with an accurate lens. They often have a tabloidesque quality to their stories, and not in an recently-revived-journalistic-credence-eg-National-Enquirer way. Unfortunately, I am only 98.6% sure that this story is just a head trip to make opponents waste time on it, and not on other more concrete topics, like Rick Davis’s Fannie and Freddie connections. And I hate that 1.4% so much, it doesn’t belong in our politics. But it (partly)lead me here, so it can’t be all evil
Make no mistake:
If Mc Cain can make hay of this, he will. If SWWNBN can duck out of a debate with Joe Biden, using this,she will.
The only question is whether it will be a wedding or a miscarriage (depending on your own view).
My own 2 cents: I couldn’t have chuckled with SWWNBN behind the bleachers, ever.
The “Queen of Mean” is not my style. Is she yours?

I still believe that Trig is Bristol and Levy’s baby. I was flabbergasted when Bristol walked out at the convention. I don’t know how to to say this tactfully so here goes…she is most definitely a nursing mother. If you compare pictures of her in the family photo and the picture posted above, no question that she is a nursing mother. I can’t believe that other people haven’t commented on that aspect.
I have NO doubt that there will be an announcement of a “medical emergency” on either late Wednesday or early Thursday that results in an announced miscarriage.
I hope Biden talks about the lobbyist connections of Davis and SP and all those earmarks, “gifts” etc. THAT is hypocrisy to which the voting public will pay attention.
I want Obama just out there making speeches in the swing states, inspiring ppl and showing how he is different than the alternative. And of course, we must continue to donate time and money and to talk to our undecided friends…
Have HOPE!! Obama is about HOPE and LIFE!
Sorry, reposted during a glitch!
Let’s see Palin is such super woman with amazing gifts and powers that she can do the following in a single bound
1. Run for Vice President-second highest office in the land
2. Travel all over the country
3. Take care of a newborn-with special needs
4. Run the state of Alaska-she is the governor right
5. Plan a wedding for a pregnant 17 year old-that is her daughter
6. Plan and prepare for all of the uncertain things that life brings her
7. Take care of 4 other children
8. Oh and be a wife
For now, I’ll sign off. Getting late for a grandmother…AKM is often spot on.
I’ll leave Y’all to go with it.
Personal opinion: I truly hope not, but I suspect so.
Been awhile, but MY teen girls would never have gone through this, not while I had any say.

Sorry. When I said I thought there would possibly be a “medical emergency”, I was thinking Bristol or Trig…the baby. Sorry to be ambiguous about that. I would not be a bit surprised if something like that happened. I think the McCain campaign is terrified of the thought of Palin in a debate. She can’t even do an interview. I don’t think they’re delusional enough to think that she could pull it off. They’ve got to be brainstorming for “emergencies” as we speak.
I know you guys will want to throw stones at me. But, I really don’t think Palin will do a bad job in the debates. I really don’t and I will tell you why. The debates have already been decided for her. The questions will be easy not too many open ended questions where she will have time to elaborate on them. She will just answer in her true tone and style and it will be over. She may get stumped on one or two but for the most part she will just talk her way out of it.

darcy, i have to laugh and agree with you that it was the incredible sarah-mother/ grandmother story that had me fervently googling and led me to mudflats, for which i’m truly grateful. and it was on a mudflats thread that an alaskan put that rumour to rest and stated that in fact bristol was actually now pregnant. no one believed it then but by the monday the campaign had confirmed it. sarah has already done the improbable with her vp candidacy, so i should be less categorical given the drama of the mccain-palin ticket so far. anyways, i’m suspending my opinion on this story so i can concentrate on the impact of a brisol-levi marriage on the american political discourse…

She doesn’t have to do any of this. She delegates EVERYTHING. Her mayoral duties, the raising of her children, she leans on everyone else to run things. Probably would interview for a mistress for her husband. Could you imagine the budget with her as VP? What’s she going to do? Move her entire extended family and entourage into the VP’s house?
This whole mess just gives me a stomach ache….
I am completely prepared for some sort of a McCain ploy that will get SP off of the ticket or at least out of the debate.
I can only hope that it will be a fabricated medical emergency or somesuch and NOT a forced marriage — Bristol has enough problems as it is!
You just have to feel sorry for these two, politics aside. Forcing them to show up at the convention was just cruel. A shotgun wedding would be another act of cruelty.
Stumped:
You’re not alone, I thought so too, but I don’t know for sure.
I just feel so sorry for that girl, who I don’t know at all, but to be dragged along to the RNC, complete with deplaning photo op, it’s so tacky and tawdry.
Can’t imagine the Times of London would print this story without some back-up from the campaign…could be a red herring though.
Cynthia, Tx(17:55:30) :
No rocks from me. I expect that she will get a “C” and that will exceed everyone’s expectations so much that it might as well be an “A”.
Glad I wasn’t the only one with a glitch today – was thinking I got OMG “Banned” Withdrawal symptoms– panic attack — what am I going to do???
If there are any McC trolling out there – keeping track of the posts here on Mudflats, this is for you ~~
Do not use those children as pawns to sacrifice for the political gain.
SWWNBN’ed needs to stand on her own two feet in that debate. His
choice and her acceptance ~~ you wanted to play ~ now its time to pay.
After watching the Palin interview, I do believe that she may have been “touching cloth”.
FRANKLY I COULD CARE LESS IF THIS COUPLE EVER GET MARRIED-PALIN HAD BETTER GET HER REAR END TO THE DEBATE-SHE IS SUCH A DISHONORABLE CREATURE! MARRIED OR NOT-DEBATE SHOULD GO FORTH AND IF THE “WEDDING” IS TELEVISED IN THE SAME TIME SLOT-WELL GUESS WHAT? I’LL WATCH THE DEBATE. BRISTOL PALIN IS NOT ONE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CHILDREN AND MOST LIKELY NEVER WILL BE. THERE ARE MANY KIDS GETTING MARRIED THAT SAME DAY-SO WHAT? OBAMA/BIDEN!!!!!
“They are in a state that I am an executive of” Sara Palin talking about Russia
————such a scary thought
I’m sorry,but I feel real sorry for these kids.I was 17 when my first son was born married the dad,17 years of pure hell followed.I say to her run little girl.Run hard,run fast.Hell I’ll put you up,till life calms down for her

I had to look up “touching cloth”. (I hope everyone else does, too!) In my neck of the woods, we call it “shittin’er britches”
ok….call me paranoid, but a Bristol/Levi wedding would be a perfect excuse for Sarah to avoid the VP debate! Who (except us nasty liberals) could object to Sarah having to go to Alaska for the wedding? Leaving the wedding date “open” certainly is convenient to do it whenever the candidate…er…the prospective bride and groom want to do it!
I think that it is in bad taste to speculate about a possible miscarriage for the girl. Imagine if she really is pregnant…what a rotten thing to wish on a girl. If she’s not and they lie about one, then shame on them. Let’s not stoop to their level.
I also think it is in horrific taste for the McShame campaign to even MENTION those childrens’ potential wedding date. It makes no difference to voters. If they use it for postponing the debate, I certainly hope the public sees it for what it’s worth. It’s like watching a train wreck, and is being used to draw the attention of anyone who will look. It gets SWWNBN’s name in the paper AGAIN. Shame on that woman and her husband for putting that girl in this political nightmare. She has a nightmare of her own to deal with. and shame on that boy’s parents, for allowing him to be used as a pawn. I bet there is some money in it for them. Why else would they allow it?
The more I find out what that campaign talks about and considers, the less I care to share the earth with them.
Hey republicans: Rent a conscience, huh?

I know you guys will want to throw stones at me. But, I really don’t think Palin will do a bad job in the debates. I really don’t and I will tell you why. The debates have already been decided for her. The questions will be easy not too many open ended questions where she will have time to elaborate on them. She will just answer in her true tone and style and it will be over. She may get stumped on one or two but for the most part she will just talk her way out of it.

Sadly, I agree. But McCain/Palin now trail in the polls and need to get Obama voters to flip. I’m not sure she’s up to that, even by exceeding low expectations. But a Biden gaffe could do it. I just want it to be over!
JP and Cynthia- I agree also. From what I’ve read, the format will be questions and then the candidate has 2 minutes to respond. I would think Sarah could have memorized answers to most any question posed, so although 2 minutes is a long time, she can probably do it unless she gets the answers “muddled”, which she has done in the last two interviews. I did read where there was to be a short discussion time between the questions, but that McCain’s staff is trying to change that. Not sure she could handle a “discussion” with Biden no matter how long. (and yes, we would hope from no gaffes from him!)
While the McCainites plan another circus stunt to ‘suspend’ the campaign, here is how a real candidate does it.

I think McPalin “base” will think she did great in the debate. The rest of us may be really disappointed if she doesn’t end up on the floor. But no way she is going to intellectually outshine Biden.
For a little change-up and good news… I have had an AOL account since my first email account years ago. It is a conservative and even nasty crowd whenever there are comment boards and polls and I always hate still being a part of that. (I have new email accounts, but still keep AOL because of all the family on there).
When AOL polls are showing that Obama won the debate (44% to 31%) and that they want him to be president 51% to 43% )- we have definitely turned a corner here!!! I really don’t think it is a case of Dems overloading these polls and you can only vote once. (OK – I voted one for each of my 6 emails there)
Onward…
I do think it would be funny if Biden were to say at one point “let me get back to ya on that, gwen!”
Wild Party here late Thursday night if she does end up on the floor though!

I can’t wait to see the junk snowmachines, old refrigerators, and unstuffed furniture set out on the lawn of the Naval Observatory.
It does get worse… was reading something about the Missouri governor yapping about Obama violating people’s civil rights by complaining about McCain’s false and misleading political ads.
The NRA is running an anti-Obama ad here in pennsyltucky… says the NRA is full of bitter people who hug their guns. Dude in the ad really does sound bitter. He probably also read about the soccer mom who packed heat to her 4-y.o. daughter’s soccer game somewhere outside Philly. Maybe she was just trying to protect her kid from Palin (who’s been in liberal-leaning Philly this weekend). Or maybe that mother is a fruitcake.
I can’t take credit for this – some clever person wrote it at the Daily Kos:
Regarding the pregnancy of Bristol: If he would have kept his Johnson in his Levis this whole thing never would have happened!
Remember, though, Palin couldn’t even answer Katie Couric’s questions on camera with the two of them, the video crew, and some staffers in the room. What’s going to happen with a live audience and live camera feed to millions of American homes? All the hype, the news networks, the big SPOTLIGHT on her face. Plus, all the pressure from even the right-wing media saying that she should withdraw or be replaced. It’s going to be stressful for her. I’d almost feel sorry for her, but she put herself in this position, knowing all she knew about her skeletons and such.
I have a daughter now several years older that bristol, I would never dream of treating her like Sarah has treated Bristol since being nominated for VP.
Love that one Judy!
I still think Levi should take Bill Maher up on his offer to “FREE LEVI” and let him run away to California.
http://freelevi.org/Real_Time_with_Bill_Maher.html
This is sooo completely crazy. Just a couple thoughts…
- As ridiculous as the story of SPs birthing Trig sounds, the odds on a 16 yr old having a Downs Syndrome child are very low. I have to believe that he’s Sarah’s child.
- Bristol is 6 months along? Too far along for a miscarriage – a premature delivery would result in the poor baby being stillborn or in a neonatal ICU. Too difficult to hide, so I don’t buy the fake miscarriage theory, either. I’m guessing she really is pregnant and hopefully, she’ll go to term and deliver a healthy newborn. Hard enough to be a 18 yr old mom without complications.
- As to the debate w/ Joe Biden – his gaffes are generally in his impromptu remarks. I expect him to be “in control” in the debate. Heck, they shortened the time he has to respond, it’s like closing a safety valve! Having said that, I agree that we shouldn’t lower expectations for SP – don’t want to make those expectations so low that all she needs to do to win is identify Russia on a map.
Parents who force their kids to get married (if the kids don’t want to) are selfish beyond redemption and put themselves ahead of their children – not what I would recommend as good parents. This is such sleazy garbage, truly a low-budget soap with C-grade actors. Can’t go much lower than this woman and the baggage/trash she has dragged along with her into the Presidential campaign. Both she and McCain should just do the right thing and step down.
Beyond embarassing – truly a national disgrace for the US.
Peeps, this is not cluelessness on the part of the McCain campaign… it’s called “win at all costs and deal with the fallout after the inauguration.”
It’s what happens when politicians have no scruples. A shame, really. The name McCain use to mean something good, not something boorish.
I’m still worried that she’ll be outfitted with an ‘earbud’. Hey, I gotta take my shoes off in the airport. Any chance they’ll check her eustachian tubes? Think we could get TSA to clear her for debate?
The expectations are so low for Palin that anything positive she says in the debate will give her the victory.
As far as the marriage thing, I personally think it should not be speculated on, this is exactly what the McCain camp wants….another distraction.
How does a shotgun wedding between two 17 year olds help anyone? Especially a candidate that preaches abstinence instead of birth control?
McCain has jumped the moose…
There was initially a lot of internet speculation about whether Trig is really Bristol’s Palin-tot, I think notably because Sarah’s account of the birth circumstances is preposterous. I appreciate that there is likely a conspiracy of silence on this matter. Now that Sarah’s been outed as a prolific liar, I’m surprised not to read more about “Trig-gate” and I’m curious as to what, if anything, Alaskans have heard. I wouldn’t want to see The Mudflats in legal trouble for libel with the McCain campaign mafia, so please tread carefully with your wording if you share any anecdotal information a.k.a. gossip.
Our Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, was an architect of the now defunct anti-choice Reform Party (by all means, Google) and though he is now presented as less extreme, he has supported privitization of social services and tax cuts for the rich. He is reported to have attended the 2003 meeting of the Bilderberg Group and co-wrote a letter to The Wall Street Journal in which he criticized the Canadian government’s unwillingness to participate in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Bush’s “bum-boy”, anyone? When Sarah mentioned Canada in her Katie Couric interview, I cringed and thought AY-YI-YI, because Harper and Palin were indeed made for each other, and I am concerned for my country should the slim chance occur that Walnuts wins.
Way to go on Saturday’s Truth rally! Looking at photos of the people and their signs, reading the blogs (especially about Walt Monegan’s mom), listening to Shannyn Moore’s speech, I had a huge smile on my face though my eyes were welling up with tears. Well done, Alaskans.
I like the Dr. Suess metaphor AK Muckraker, well said.
I watched Tony Knowles debate Sarah the Liar about abortion on YouTube, and I thought, he seems like a decent guy. What’s happening with him nowadays?
My husband keeps asking me, and I don’t have the answer – where are Levi’s parents in all this? How did they let their son get hijacked by the McCain campaign? It boggles the mind!

@Stumped by it all (17:38:17) :
I have to agree with you. Bristol has been under wraps because she is not preggers.
@richie (17:55:32) :
I also agree with you (how obamesque of me). The Palin drama is a huge distraction…still it is difficult to stop. it is like an itch that you have to scratch. Something is going on with this family and we, being mostly females on this blog, are vibrating with intuition.
Here is mine.
First of all it seems to me that Levi is a pretty decent guy. Despite the asinine facebook confessions and the party girl sister, he just comes up as being down to earth and faithful.
Second, Bristol and Levi are really in love. You have to admit that they look together and who gets a tattoo done on their ring finger?
Third, Bristol and Levi are already married (there was something in the blogisphere concerning this)…and they have had a baby together…. Trig. Look back at some of the pictures from the convention and preconvention. This guy is seriously attached to that baby….as is Bristol.
Forth: Bristol will have a fake and convenient miscarriage next week that will suspend Sarah’s campaign and cancel the debate.
There it is. What a cliff hanger! I do hope and pray that they will get this through this crazy time.
i’m not sure we’re all going to have to go to the trouble of getting bristol any gifts as i’m not sure we will be attending her wedding.
not if this keeps up::
@Ripley_6 AKA Copper Catfish P.No Gravatar (18:11:02) :
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. Well said.
Please, everyone, stop speculating about Bristol in any way that you would not want someone talking about you or your daughter or granddaughter. The campaign and JM and SP are another story. But consider how it would be read by Bristol, and if you are uncomfortable saying it to her face, don’t say it here.
SP leaves Philly for a day of stumping with McCain in Ohio. Then its on to Sedona (Cornville) Az, for two and a half days of debate prep. Todd and kids to join her. This is where it started, is this where it ends?
I also think that lowering expectations for Palin on the debate is a bad strategy. Sure, she screwed up royally on every interview she’s been on, but it’s still going to be a VERY tricky debate for Biden. Basically, if he makes her look stupid, which is not very hard to do, he’ll be the bad guy. If Gwen Eifel (sp?) asks her a regular question, and she bombs, that’s the only way Biden can come out the winner.
As Tina Fey said in her SNL skit (which was brilliant), the more Palin gets backed into a corner, the cuter people think she is. . . unless, of course, she paints her own sorry ass into a corner, in which case people realize how stupid she really is.
Lara and Ripley-I agree about bad mouthing Bristol. She is a child facing a very challenging future. I do NOT agree about bad-mouthing Sarah. (and I would say to Sarah to her face what I say here) I think she made a BAD decision as a mother, given the challenges her children face, in deciding to run in this campaign. I also think it would be FURTHER shameful if she uses her children’s circumstances to try to win this election. We shall see.

Sorry, I can’t go there. Statistics don’t support the teenage mother Downs syndrome connection –
http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/d/down_syndrome/prevalence.htm
Less than 1-in-1,000 risk of Down syndrome for women under 30
About 1-in-25 risk of Down syndrome for a 45-year-old mother
who gets a tattoo done on their ring finger? teenagers, especially in this age of let’s get tattoos, everybody’s got one.
Besides, except for being sad that Bristol’s being used to further her Mother’s political aspirations, this is a non-issue for me.
As for Levi being a stand up guy, he’s 18 years old, maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. Or maybe like alot of other 18 year old guys, he’s thinking with his other head.
i want to know why the kids aren’t in school. Has Bristol dropped out? And what is Levi doing?
Palin can’t be as uneducated as she appeared with Katie Couric!!! Didn’t she do well in the 2006 Gubernatorial debates?? Is her apparent vapidness yet another ploy to set expectations so low that when she speaks in complete sentences she will seem eloquent?
PJ-if the children are with Sarah, one can always hire a tutor. Many celebrity children have tutors rather than attend school.

in the video, during a alaska gubenatorial debate, sarah palin says that even if her daughter were raped she would “choose life.”
let’s hope none of her daughters suffer being raped.
let’s hope sarah palin never achieves enough power to force that “choice” on others who do.
A long-ago remark from musician Nick Lowe, which seems apropos:
“The first rule of rock and roll [read: politics - DRC] is that there are no rules, but if there were a rule it’d be this: YOU CAN’T SHINE SHIT.
“The problem is that with recording [read:spin] techniques today, that rule is out the window. Today you CAN shine shit, and make it SHINE LIKE BLOODY CHROME.”
This from the writer of “Cruel To Be Kind” … bravo for life’s little ironies.
obama’s people are making a funny:
“We’ve looked at tapes of Gov. Palin’s debates, and she’s a terrific debater,” Plouffe told reporters on a conference call. “She has performed very, very well. She’s obviously a skilled speaker. We expect she’ll give a great performance next Thursday.” [...]
“She’s obviously prepping this weekend in Pennsylvania,” Plouffe continued. “Anyone who watches any of her previous debates would be impressed by her debating skills.”
Obama national press secretary Bill Burton added: “What’s missing is knowing where she stands on a lot of the important issues that will come up at the debate. Preparing to debate against someone who is really largely unknown, who’s spent so much time preparing for the debate, will be a real challenge.
“She’s not out there on the stump that much. She’s not doing a whole lot of interviews. So she’s spending a whole lot of time — hours and hours a day, apparently — preparing for this debate. And we suspect that she’ll come in fighting form.”
PJ-if the children are with Sarah, one can always hire a tutor. Many celebrity children have tutors rather than attend school.

By the way, we only have Sarah’s word for it…that the baby has down syndrome…it could be something else entirely.
we need a “preview” button, please!
Didn’t she do well in the 2006 Gubernatorial debates??
*******************
Ok everyone I have to be honest with you from what I saw on CSPAN with regards to the 2006 Gubernatorial debate what just not that big of a deal. I personally thought they were just sitting having a nice time talking about the topics at hand. I just didn’t see Palin making a big deal out of anything or taking a true stance on a topic. I felt she just agreed or disagreed with certain topics and uses mush gibberish to get through the questions. Now, if I am wrong on that I will go back and view them again. But, what I saw was a bit like the Gibson/Coric interviews just toned downed even more.
So, the great debater we will have to see.
LOL I couldnt care less about there wedding. I dont know if that happens I guess I would have to turn the news off for a week LOL. I dont think I could stomach it. Hey I heard the Palin was pregnant before she got married too. Does anyone know if that is true. Just wondered.
VoteNov4 Sarah I think sarah is not the quickest learner. She is a good person maybe but she is just not ready for this level of work. Take a look at this sight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCpCAcyJGDI&NR=1

Palin can’t be as uneducated as she appeared with Katie Couric!!!

To coin a phrase:
YES SHE CAN!
“No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American Public.” – H.L. Mencken
Hanlon’s Razor: “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.”
As to the question, how low will they go? I think it’s obvious they’ll go way low. But as for this Mudpuppie, there are places I refuse to go. Cratering (don’t ya love McA$$ vocabulary?) Bristol is one of those places for me. My heart bleeds for her, and if she could stand being a hot house flower in South Georgia, I’d adopt her.
Bristol may not be pregnant, reread the Palin family press release (google it), it does not say she is pregnant, it says “we are proud of Bristols decision to keep her baby and we are proud to become grandparents.” The McCain campaign said she was 5 months pregnant in an attempt to deflect attention from rumors that Trig was Bristol’s child and that Sarah had faked the pregnancy . (The story line on Desperate Housewives last season). Bristol will have a “miscarriage” prior to this weeks debate and Sarah will be so “distraught” she won’t be able to do the debate. When is the MSM going to ask the questions?
“By the way, we only have Sarah’s word for it…that the baby has down syndrome…it could be something else entirely.”
I’d bet on Trig being a Downs syndrome baby – he has the look, and I’ve seen many. I hope they realize how blessed they are to have this child. Downs syndrome people are truly amazing and very special. If you have a Downs syndrome person in your life, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
LOL well I hope that is not true LOL. That would require a lot of acting on many peoples part including her young children. Just cant image that that would be true. LOL
She and the first dude could always homeschool.
I’d like to leave the poor kids out of this, even if their parents won’t ….
so … I’d like to ask a question for Mudflats to follow up on.
We know Palin is being sequestered in case she opens her mouth again, but has anyone seen the illustrious King George lately? Seems the Prez may have been hog-tied somewhere in case he brags that McCain supported him 90% of the time …
…. Or did GW suspend his presidency in order to deal with the economic crisis?
As to whether Miss Wasilla can really be as ignorant as she looks, I commend to you “Why Do People Laugh At Creationists?” – episode 26: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ntEE9Zy-qQQ
Muchas Gracias to the fellow mudpuppy (sorry, forgot your name?) who first linked this here. I actually went back and watched the whole series … it’s rather sad to see how low Ben Stein has fallen. (He got degrees in Law and Economics, but you couldn’t be bothered to pay attention in Biology class? And he went to YALE???)
Personally, I grew up in a family in which ignorance was considered something to be ASHAMED of. Corrected at the earliest opportunity. Or at worst, kept well-hidden.
Those who take pride in their willful (even invincible) ignorance, are my lawful prey.
I’ve not read the new & improved debate format for Joe & scarah. I know the basics, i.e. shortened to 2 minutes per Q/A, less opportunity for back & forth between participants, but that’s all I know. Question: does she know the questions ahead of time?
JMO, GW is about to go down as the worst President in the history of this United States, and he knows it and his Daddy knows it and his brother (formerly the governor of Florida) knows it. I expect he’s licking his wounds in Texas, or thereabouts.
Palin is McSame’s weapon of ‘mass distraction.’
She is an attraction that is trotted out at the calculating whim of McCampaign operatives. A way to divert Americans from the serious issues of the day.
Palin has already turned her back on Alaska. Now she will turn her 17 year old daughter’s shotgun wedding into a media circus to benefit her own ambitions.
Palin has become the laughingstock of the nation. Throwing her daughter to the tabloid dogs will add to the late night jokes. Can McPalin go any lower?
Palin should be removed as Alaska governor.
@Bec
I don’t think there is any way they could use a wedding excuse to get her out of the debate.

Agree. Another campaign “suspension” is out of the question (it is now de rigueur in this campaign to more than one thing at a time). My advice to Joe Biden: Do Not appear to condescend to or lecture SP; stick to the facts; throw in some zingers if and when the opportunity presents itself.
If Bristol is turning 18, can she vote? Wonder who’d she vote for? That conjures up outlandish fantasies…….
Ultimately, I feel sorry for those kids.
We should all remember that the Couric interview is not finished. There is more in the “can”, a throwback to when film not videotape was used. Tomorrow evening’s CBS News will show more of the Couric/Palin interview. I suspect it contains more gems that will go viral. Watch for it.
Keanus
I think you’re right on. I’d sure like to see it all. But, alas, McA$$ would never allow it.
Hi all. It sounds like Falin is planning a bad “The Birdcage” Part Two. Poor kids. McSame’s failing to show at a Independant rally here in Cols at the Westin…. I don’t think that went over too well. Didn’t get home in time to watch the 11:00 news. Nothing on the news channels websites to say he’s in town. hmmmmm I’ll have to wait until am.
drawn out of lurkage finally…
I’m Canadian, discovered Mudflats just before I left on an almost 3 week road trip vacation in the US. Driving through the rather disturbing landscape that in Middle America off the interstates, then into the hotel room each night to go through e.mail then jump on here and see the latest insanity. So many fun links to follow, so little time before packing the laptop back up for the next day’s drive.
When I heard the stories about her not being Trig’s mom, I thought somebody had been watching too much Desperate Housewives but between the nonsensical details about 8 hour plane trips “in labour” and the stream of pointless, unnecessary stupid lies she’s been caught in, the more I come around to thinking there’s something to the story.
The thing is, in the modern world, 21st century America, anyone who forces their teenage daughter to go through such a charade is NOT protecting or taking care of the child/grandchild, it’s all about the family’s reputation in front of a segment of society that is not living in the modern world.
There are so many better options for dealing with it, it takes amazing selfishness to expect everyone in the family to live that kind of unnecessary lie – and a very special kind of stupid to pull it off so badly. At least Bree wore a fake belly for months when she was pretending to carry Danielle’s child, lol.
Of course, the alternative if she really is Trig’s mom, is appalling personal choices about health care and blatant lying to airlines that forbid normal passengers flying in later stages of pregnancy and certainly not when they could pop at baby out in mid-air.
Then again, any sane reasonable person confronted with stories about not being the mother of her own baby would laugh and produce the birth certificate, possibly followed up by pictures of her not at all recently pregnant daughter holding the newborn in the hospital while she looks on from her hospital bed.
For the same reason, I don’t think they would dream up a fake pregnancy to excuse covering up a real one. If they’re so worried about standing in the evangelical community, they wouldn’t brand the girl like that unless it was unavoidable.
Most delusional of all goes to the M/P campaign spokesperson who thinks they can use a teenage shotgun wedding to shut down the race for a week and that no one would see through or care about such and obvious tactic. It was Tucker Bounds, wasn’t it, even if they don’t attribute a comment his kind of stoopid is unmistakable.
Yep, I feel Palin tossed her daughter under the bus. As a mother, I cannot imagine ever making a choice to put my child in the position she put her daughter. And as a father, my husband would never do that either. I am amazed that more parents aren’t appalled at how Palin didn’t “blink” when she accepted McCain’s offer, and didn’t consider how it her daughter would deal with the likes of National Enquire, considering her pregnancy. It has nothing about a woman’s right to a career, it is about a parent’s responsibility to protect his or her child.
Some worry that SP won’t have enough time in the 2 min limits in the debate to show how stupid she is, but don’t forget the Couric interviews were only 5 min segments, and they were plenty painful. I would think in a 90 min debate, even if each question is held to 2 mins, she can do some serious damage to her credibility such as it is.
Just my 2 cents
Palin is McSame’s weapon of ‘mass distraction’ —
She is a novel attraction that is trotted out at the calculating whims of McCampaign operatives. She is used as a diversion to keep McSame as Bush from having to answer questions on serious issues.
Palin has let the Bush/McCain handlers turn her into the nation’s laughingstock. Now she will turn over her 17 year old daughter’s shotgun wedding to the tabloids and add to the late night jokes. Palin has shown us that her ego and ambition know no bounds.
Palin should be recalled as Alaska governor and just go away.
Here’s something else I’ve noticed. In 2004 Bushie signs were everywhere. (I live in the corn and bean fields of Ohio). It’s funny that there’s only a few McSame signs. Dare we hope??? I say yes
Geez it’s late…. I misspelled my name!!!
“Palin should be recalled as Alaska governor and just go away.”
Recall is too good for her. Impeachment is in order.
What are the odds that miss Palen “when she is ship back home to the beautiful state of Alaska” that she will be re-elected as governor?
As always, must thank the Host(ess) AKM for this great site – wonderful thoughts and opinions in addition to a links. Your blog has touched every corner of the world, and I am proud to be a participant.
Palin may do “fair” if she can Mooseshit her way through it. At least until the factcheckers and talking heads break down what exactly she did say. To say the least, if she shows up and gets out a “thank you” it will probably mean a win, because the bar has been dropped in a canyon.
It does surprise me that during her time as Gov. and Oil & Gas board, that she had not taken a look outside her own state to see what was going on in the rest of the world. Of course, if they were homeschooling 4 children, full time job, no cook or driver, or family assistance she may have never clicked outside the Alaska website to consider what the rest of the country was going through. Unemployment, jobs shipped oversea’s, failing housing market, (record) foreclosures, lack of medical insurance, etc.
I would love to have a sneak peak at the questions that will be asked.
Same lack of McPain political signs in Wisconsin. I believe that it is very embarrassing for people to show their support for a party that will cease to exist in a very short while.
Palin will be off the ticket by Wed latest replaced by??
http://www.politicalbase.com/profile/jnail/blog/&blogId=4394
Also Palin is being sequestered with the entire family at one of McCain’s houses on the Sedona Ranch all week…for “debate prep”…
http://rss.cnn.com/~r/rss/cnn_politicalticker/~3/405753420/
Monday’s news will all be about the bailout and the House vote and the Senate votes Wed so Tues or Wed after the vote she resigns for family reasons….
Countdown to Saracuda’s ‘No-Show’… for WHATEVER reason…
2 days… 21 hours… 15 minutes
Off to rest and prepare for tomorrows news… keep up the GREAT work all…
CBS is milking SP for all she’s worth. Both SP and Couric have falling ratings and CBS comes out ahead on this one.
The great thing is that NBC will get great SNL footage from Tina doing her version of the interview excerpts…
I call it the GIFT that keeps on giving… now if Kate can stretch release of the entire interview for about another month that would be great.
Genius!
To use the sacrament of marriage for a cheap political trick, or using her own pregnant daughter for her own political ambition, is beyond the pale.
There will be backlash.
Regarding the VP Debates I think we need to remember that the McCain campaign was able to achieve some significant concessions for the VP debates.
Unlike the Obama/McCain debates where the candidates were urged to talk directly to each other, refute each other, even interrupt each other, the VP debates are going to be a straight Q & A session with less time to answer questions than the Presidential candidates had.
I still think Palin will stink as she will spew her ridiculous non sequitur, banal, inaccurate rhetoric. She will repeat specific talking points over and over ad nauseum and confuse everyone with her patented “blizzard of words” and inane nonsensical banalities. But it doesn’t sound like Biden will have the opportunity to directly contest her statements so Palin will only have to regurgitate talking points, not actually ‘think’ for herself. Even so I’m sure there will still be a few of the hilarious “Palinisms” we’ve all come to know and love but I also think Sarah will have her talking points memorized well and she may very well meet the ridiculously low expectations that are being set for her. Those expectations have been set so low that chances are if Palin doesn’t start talking in tongues on stage the McCainites will claim victory.
I also don’t think Palin’s debates will lose the election for McCain. I think he is doing that all by his little old self.
BTW I thought Tina Fey as Palin last night was brilliant! She absolutely nailed Sarah Palin. She does Sarah Palin better than Palin does herself.
I don’t doubt that Palin could be a reasonably competent debater if she has knowledge of the subject matter – which would likely be the case with the governor’s debate in Alaska.
But there is just so much that she does not know related to a national campaign.
Plus I think she has finally realized how badly she is out of her depth – and I think she is showing signs of lack of confidence. If the debate goes ahead, there will be enormous pressure on her, and that will not help her performance.
Don’t want to be guilty of unduly lowering expectations, but I can’t imagine her “winning” unless Biden does something really dumb.
Oh, and that picture at the top of the post? She sure looks pregnant to me.
And as for the wedding rumours – I had thought they were married already – but could be wrong on that.
I think even if palin Bombs they will find some way to turn it around and make it Biden’s fault. They just have such a way with tacticts. I can hear it now. Many people are defending her in all these interviews as if they are either blind or just getting paid enough to do so. So either way Sarah Palin has already won the debate in the conservative eye. LOL sad but true
What question would you want Sarah Palin to answer in the debate?
Palin should tell us what kind of stupid juice she drinks.
Are they going to be given the question ahead of time?
@Prettybrowntree

The Debates are as much about tactics as strategy (huh, heard that somewhere). Biden is smart and the shortened format should help HIM. So then he has to focus on tactics: don’t sound condescending, call her Governor, look into the camera, look at SP, and not — by all means — not break into maniacal and uncontrollable laughter at the stupidity of it all.
QUESTION:
Governor Palin, Secretary Kissinger recently said that discussions with Iran should go forward at a high level without pre-conditions. Given your role as Vice President, what governmental level do you feel is appropriate to participate in these discussions and why?
Taking Enjay aka Turbine Yukon seriously here people!
I hope Biden is well prepared for Thursday because he’ll have to be perfect since so little is expected of Palin. She did well at the convention and she wasn’t bad in the Hannity interview so it makes me nervous that everyone thinks she’ll pull another “Miss South Carolina.”
And, though you are more likely to have a Down’s baby as an older mother, there are more Down’s babies born to younger women just because younger women have more babies.
I hope those poor kids can summon up enough courage to say NO. Palin is horrible to exlploit her children. How could anyone vote for her?
Thanks kokofish ~
I have so many questions that need answering (altho if they were asked and if she answered clearly it would NOT change my Obama vote)
My understanding from everything I have read about the Veep Debate – is she will be parrot-ing McC’s talking points – no input really about her view or “what would you do”
I am sure neither of them have the questions in advance – can only hope she mixes up her cue cards – and Biden doesn’t fall on the floor laughing.

This is so funny. LMAO it amazes me LOL.
I gather a great portion of the Republican party thinks little if anything of women. From what I’ve seen on TV, they all pretty well look alike – well-coiffed, meticulously made up, constant frozen smile, and flourescent teeth. I’ve yet to establish the calibre of their brains, but if Ann Coulter is any example, then their brains are small and continue to shrink. Anyway, I believe that Old McFuddle would have chosen Velma Vagina to be his running mate is she had been available. Obviously women are just a compilation of body parts to these ‘good old boys’. They have insulted every intelligent woman on this planet.
This is somewhat off topic, but I still would like to hear from the doctor that told Gov. Palin that even though she was leaking amniotic fluid, it would be ok to wait a few hours, give a speech, board a commercial flight from Texas to Anchorage with a stop in Seattle and then drive to the Mat-Su hospital as opposed to meeting her at an Anchorage hospital. This doesn’t even include the variables that this is the fifth pregnancy, the baby isn’t due for another month and already has known complications. I know of no other mother who would have even considered getting on an airplane in that condition.
And as far as Bristol being pregnant, have you read the actual press release? It is so convoluted, it could be referring to a discussion 12 months ago.

Statement from Sarah and Todd Palin
ARLINGTON, VA — Today, Sarah and Todd Palin issued the following statement regarding today’s Reuters story:
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”
Am trying to narrow my question down
Suchanut (16:58:03) :
ACK!!! You know what else October 18 is this year? ALASKA DAY!!! I gotta find a description for ya’ll.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OMG – that doesn’t bode well, does it?
As a mother of a 21-year-old daughter myself (senior in college, headed for law school) and an 18-year-old son who is a Freshman, it saddens me that Bristol Palin and her boyfriend will not be able to finish growing up out of the spotlight. Kids change so much between age 16 and 20! And all that’s been swept away for these kids – it’s incredibly sad.
Wouldn’t it be great if the press grew a pair and said, “Sorry, the families are off limits so we’re not going to cover the wedding” ?
Question: Governor Palin, what do you have to say to the thousand’s of citizens of Alaska who you have disenfranchised by abdicating running your states government by the McCain Campaign, are you aware that the office of the Governor is exclusively run by McCain operatives? Are these new hires, and at what level in the state pay grade have they been hired at? What is your current operating budget compared with your F/Y 2008 budget?
I could go on. I need to go on. I’ve written emails today to Leg. Council. I think I am finding my new work. Letting out my inner protester. I find myself quite ill at times considering the possibilities. Besides Mudflats, how are y’all handling the bad times (positive McCain press) versus good times (negative McCain press)?
-Marti – Good for you!
-Enjay- Another try!
SP has consistently failed to provide specifics (that make sense). If she only speaks “McCain,” Biden will mop the floor with her. While the VEEP was a sorta nothing job, Cheney changed that dynamic totally. Biden is the perfect complement to BO (my vote too, BTW). So the country should expect more than a cypher.
QUESTION:
Governor Palin, what does the McCain Administration see as the 5 top international issues facing the United States over the next 4 years and what specific steps will you take, in your role as Vice President in a McCain Administration, to address them?
Night all, great to have Mudflats back!
In all seriousness here are a couple of questions I would like asked of both candidates.
What is your stance and please explain your reasoning, as to how you feel about legislation that allows for wolves to be shot from airplanes?
What is your stance and please explain your reasoning, as to how you feel about a policy that would require a victim of sexual assault to be required to pay for her own evidence kit?
I’m dead serious. I would really like an explanation.
I compulsively read all this. It’s hard to know why, really. Usually around presidential elections I read everything I possibly can about all concerned, but this put me in a different orbit in a part of the universe I never dreamed of visiting. I kept reading hoping for illumination…..of what, I just don’t know.
I feel completely exhausted.
This is what political campaigns have come to?
How dare this woman put her family through this.
How dare she put the country through this.
I feel slimed.
Thanks for the YouTube link – Prettybrowntee! (21:34:43) : I had seen the interview. I had seen Tina Fey. I didn’t realize that one whole long segment Tina Fey did was verbatim from Palin! I figured there had to be some extra crapola inserted in there, but it is actually what she said. Yikes!
Is she really pregnant ?!
I looked really close at the above photo with a magnifying glass and I get this gut feeling that she is being made to look pregnant.
Her being pregnant gets Sara off the hook about Trig being Kristal’s baby.
If making Kristal look pregnant, and she is really not pregnant, then a future surprise could be a fake miscarriage, all caused by the supposed mean spirited press and democrats and the Palin haters !!
If after the fake miscarriage, the sympathy vote looks like it’s not gonna work, then Sara could drop out of the race and state that it is because her Family (mainly Kristol) needs her now more than ever and motherhood is of course, much more important than being VP.
We all know that Palin/McCain motto “Country First” except if it pertains to family and the it’s “Family First” and “Country Later”.
I could be way out there on this one, but I have never really believed the whole story of Sara going 7 months without anyone noticing her being pregnant and/or the story of her water breaking in Houston and then her flying back to Ak, etc…
Bec in Illinois—It just motivate me to call up Obama’s Camp tomorrow and volunteer my time because it would be a scary thing to have her in Office. MCCain Palin and Bush Oh my.
I thought that the mccain camp said that the palin family was not to be addressed during the campaign. Well, I guess that means only if it isn’t working in their favor.
If it were me as the mom and the kids really really wanted to get married I would have a nice quiet affair in front of a minister with just the family and get on with it. It will be interesting to see how this is handled.
It could be a bit interesting – I have never seen a marriage performed by a witch hunter – abba dabba doo and it’s a done deal?
I have nothing but contempt for this woman and compassion for these two kids who look equally dazed, confused and miserable. My wish is that they would take their baby trig, have the new baby and move far far away from the insanity that now encases their every breathing moment.
If they do announce a wedding I will call for an action to contact ALL media and demand that they provide no coverage of the event in the service to the public who needs to continue to focus on the issues and not get caught up in any more theatre.
Biden will shine – he is an intelligent, gracious and knowledgeable man who will put her to shame. And that smile, oy yoy yoy – and he doesn’t have to wear lipstick!!! My only hope is that at some point he will allow himself to laugh out loud!
As they say – if palin wants to play with the big dogs she had better get up on the porch.
Does anyone else find this suspicious: Sarah Palin and her whole family will spend the first part of the week secluded on McCain’s ranch in Arizona for debate camp. She was originally scheduled to be in a hotel in St. Louis. There are a lot of things that could (supposedly) happen to a person while spending time on a ranch out of the view of the media.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/28/palin-in-debate-camp-until-thursday/
I think the Palin family gathering at McCain’s Sedona house may be preparations for sending Sarah back home to Alaska.
Re Bristol’s pregnancy: According to kids who went to West High with Bristol last year, yes she is pregnant and no Trig is not her kid. Now can we talk about something of substance? I’m just a tad disappointed in my favorite human being for posting this rumor and sending us all down this path.
I see a problem with SP dropping out of the race. Before she became the VP pick, she was cooperating with the Troopergate investigation. Since becoming VP pick, the McCain people have sent loads of people and spent a boat load of money trying to sink this thing. If she drops out, I think McCain would pull the lawyers and henchmen, (he’ll need the $$ for damage control, spin, and making his new pick look good) and then Sarah would be left to deal with a whole bunch of mad people probably unwilling to cut a deal of any sort after what she’s put them through. Innocent or not, this would not be pretty. She has to stay in the race, whether she comes out with any dignity intact or not, simply to save her behind. If they lose, she may face the same problem, but she can always hope for the win.
If she resigns after–yuck–being elected, McCain has a problem. All his appointments must be approved by the Senate–heh heh– which doesn’t look like it’s going to turn red this November, at any rate. He’ll have to go for the Pilsbury Dough Boy. If Sarah resigns and anything happens to McCain before he gets a VP confirmed, then the position of Pres goes to the Speaker of the House–who will probably still be Nancy Pelosi. Now, not wishing anything bad to happen to McCain, but isn’t that an interesting scenario! So I’m guessing that the GOP does not want Sarah to resign should she be elected, just to keep that from happening.
It would be interesting to contrast Pelosi as a mom that has it all and Palin. Pelosi, has 5 grown children who all adore her and who all have become successful, contributing adults. And she’s sure accomplished a lot in congress. You may or may not agree with what she’s done, but she has, in fact, done it all. Pelosi, the democrat, is a much better role model for women and girls interested in having a family and high powered career. Oh, and her husband can do more than fish and ride a snow mobile (where I’m from, snow machines clean off the roads). She’s also managed to keep her family out of the lime light. Imagine that.
In case you’re interested, here’s her Wikipedia entry
I’ve enjoyed this thread. Actually, I just want to see my little quilt block.
Good Questions ocliberal (21:57:11) and kokofish palin (21:49:54) :
It has been reported, and you support in your roll as Gov, drilling for oil in ANWR will ease some of the US energy problems. However, a number of oil companies currently hold lease agreements for ANWR and have not drilled on those sites. Why should more area’s of ANWR be opened up for drilling when, in fact, they have not drilled where they now hold leases.
I wonder if Tina Fey could be hired to stand in for Sarah at the debate. Win/win. Tina would make a pile of cash (maybe courtesy of some of those casino friends of McCain) and the debate would be fun to watch! Besides, I’ll bet Tina knows more about the issues than Sarah.
Oh, how I wish it was otherwise, but hey, from present experience this week the Repub camp already has the ad written, “Pailin Wins Debate, Biden Loses”, and it’s paid for and in the bank, not the ones that just failed, either. So now, they are business writing the press releases and media spin speech on how wonderful she was and so much better than expected, what with her planning her daughters coming wedding, taking care of the other children, nursing the baby and all her speaking engagements. All that has to be done now is to hire those young new aspiring and adoring female news anchors that will be singing her praises.
The photo ops, and limited speeches will go on and on and on until the day before the election. She’s going to be on the Morning Show in a few hours. Those with the glazed over eyes of adoration will still swoon each time she delivers the party line and smile and tell the media pundants why she is the right choice and ready to be VP. She will continue to be just what she is the distraction to keep all eyes glued on her to see what she will do next and it will not really matter what she does or doesn’t do. Because as a distraction she keeps people entertained and busy laughing or not, just as long as she keeps them from looking at what is actually going on and truly seeing who they are about to elect if they are going to vote for the Repub ticket.
Let’s not let the Repubs get away with it. Stop spending energy on her, don’t feed her ego or her campaign or her supporters. We know enough now about her to know if we like what we see or not. So let’s put our attention on what we really want and if it isn’t her then find something to do to support what you do want in this next election.
If you haven’t visited the “Aging Hippies for Obama Club – ANYONE CAN JOIN!” thread at the Forum, you have missed reading absolutely incredible stories! They are posted on the General Chat thread.
Oh my! I knew this was a unique and talented group of people (NO! I am not talking about ME!), but you folks, collectively, have restored my belief that there is a huge group of us who are largely unnoticed but genuinely concerned about the future of America.
Your shared experiences have made me laugh, cry, play my “oldies but goodies RECORDS”, call former “partners in crime” to reminisce, hunt-up old pictures and giggle…and, most of all, LONG TO BE IN A JAIL CELL WITH JAMES TAYLOR!
Thanks for allowing us to peek into your pasts, in hopes of rekindling the unity required for changing our country’s future!
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE – YES WE CAN! – PEACE AND LOVE
(I am going to post this again tonight on the Bedtime Thread” to invite our International friends in on the conversation…so if it looks familiar…you’ll know why!)
Dang, I take a couple of days off Mudflats, and it takes hour to catch up.
On the “voluntary” subpoenas: could an Alaskan verify if it is true that complying with a legislative subpoena is only mandatory when the Legislature is in session? If true, then Colberg advising state employees that they don’t HAVE TO appear right now wouldn’t be such a big deal. My impression, though, is that either he or the Gov’s office have been INSTRUCTING people not to comply. That would seem to be pretty shaky ethics right there.
On the VP debate: I think it will go as scheduled, for the following reasons. (1) Palin’s core right-wing fans won’t care if she starts speaking in toungues; they’re already sold. (2) Undecided voters will probably give her some benefit of the doubt. There is a risk that she might just be too incoherent to ignore, but there would also be a risk in delaying for anything less than a genuine emergency. For undecided voters, this campaign must already resemble a bad soap opera. Cancelling for something like wedding prep would be a fatal lapse of seriousness.
On a pre-election wedding: Oy vey. I sure hope not. That would be a rotten thing to do to the couple. I mean, they’re young, and if they’ve got a sense of humor I suppose the hoopla could actually be kind of fun. But in the long run, it would just be throwing them into the tabloid arena. Gack.
Finally, and most importantly, congratulations to all you ralliers in Anchorage. What a turnout! And signs! And Walt Monegan’s rogue mom!
Way to go.
I don’t think it’s particularly helpful to ask people to discuss “something of substance” without even offering something of substance to discuss. Personally, the pregnancies are relevant for me because it was the Daily Kos’s speculation about whether it was Sarah or Bristol who was the mother of Trig, that provided the impetus for Sarah to throw Bristol under the bus and announce her pregnancy to everyone.
Sarah is so bizarre that she is fascinating! It is easy to get sucked into the details of her life. But the REAL point is that McCain has endangered our country by choosing her as his runningmate. His choice not only show his bad judgement, it shows his complete disregard for the security of the United States of America.
OFF TOPIC: I can hardly wait for the movie to come out–Palin Campaign: the Movie. Needless to say, TF will star. Maybe M Moore will direct! : )
Google says Bristol will turn 18 on her birthday, October 18th.
If there is a wedding, my guess is it won’t happen until after October 18th.
Has anyone noted that Bristol’s dress in this picture has the weirdest fabric section across her breasts? And that she hardly seems pregnant in this photo? This is a highly unflattering garment . . .color notwithstanding!
This is a false flag to distract from Rick Davis getting his hand caught in the cookie jar.
And I am surprised no one is talking about the rally in Virginia–this is all over the place!
I was born and bred in VA, and just recently moved from there. I have lived all over it, and it is eternally my home. For those of you who have any doubts, VA will go BLUE this year. We have great schools, and we are smart and savvy people. We’re politically aware because of northern VA and can smell political BS coming a mile away. We’re incredibly diverse and progressive.
And a little history about our fair state: Jamestown was the first English settlement in our country. Five years later, the marriage of John Rolfe and Pocahontas caused peace between settlers and colonists. The College of William & Mary, one of the oldest colleges in the country, started as a school for Native American boys, and educated John Monroe, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Henry Clay, George Wythe, and over 1/4 of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
We understand that saving this nation is important because we are a part of it’s very foundation.
If you don’t believe me, you may want to tell that to the 26,000 people who stood in a line over two miles long, with a one hours delay, in the pouring rain. When it starts raining during the speech, O takes off his coat and continues his speech in the rain, with Joe in the rain by his side. I am so proud to be a Virginian today.
http://fredericksburg.com/News/Web/2008/092008/ObamaPics/index_html?qstart=1
Please take the time to enjoy the pics. It’s also worth watching the speech itself (link posted in another comment above).
No telling what the McCain camp might pull next. One thing I am tired of, is the Republicans contention that the mess we are in now (financial, Iraq, etc) is all the Democrats fault !
Why ? They keep saying “because the Democrats have been in control of both houses of Congress for the last two years” !
They ‘conveniently’ seem to forget that a Republican has been in the White House for the last EIGHT years; and Repubs were in control of Congress for several years before that.
But of course, none of that matters to Repubs. I have NEVER seen a party where there is so much, lying, and cheating, and whatever low thing they can tink fo to do to try and win an election (caging, foreclosure thing, etc).
And now potentially a wedding !?!?!?!
Excuse me, but what could the wedding of two teenagers from Alaska POSSIBLY have to do with the Presidential elections ?
The Republicans have become an absolute joke !
sytgrl(01:26:12): You are right – these are AMAZING PICTURES!!! totally amazing and well worth seeing. Makes me wonder about the photographer. (Not just who it is, but how wet did s/he get? hehe)
I see you recently moved away – I bet you would have loved to have been there!!!
@Mizkay Spackle CamshaftNo Gravatar (03:06:02) :
Thank You for looking at the pics! Please when you get a chance, check out the whole speech here:
I watched it twice in a row, it was so good! I think it might be the best one yet. Obama hits all of the right notes. I would love to be casting a vote in VA this year after having my vote negated in previous ones. But, I would be elated if VA went blue, no matter where I am.
Who is paying for Bristol’s pre-natal care? (Alaska taxpayers?)
Last time I looked…it costs plenty of dough to have a baby if you do not have health insurance. Should Bristol marry I do believe that changes her status …..
from being a dependent of the Palins.
Any insurance or tax wonks out there know the answer?
There is an excellent web site written by a medical professional about the many questions regarding Trig’s birth. If you are curious about the issues, please follow these links.
http://www.palindeception.com/blog/
and
http://www.palindeception.com/
I am also in medicine, and originally found mudflats when looking for answers to some of the medically improbable statements that were being made regarding Trig’s birth. This site summarizes the issues well.
Lila,
I agree, I am a midwife and agree with the last 2 posts you made. If we are relying on their honesty about dates then we pretty much know they are untrue. It brings me back to show your health records, even John McCain has (well, sort of!). I know there are a ton of people who are tired of this but I am with you, I think it’s important, it shows poor character and poor judgement.
I shoudn’t be so mean but I hope she continues with her incoherent ramblings on Thurs. Burn, baby, burn!
This is an absolutely hilarious article by George Saunders – highly recommended!
http://www.newyorker.com/humor/2008/09/22/080922sh_shouts_saunders
Avahome: I spent 20 years in health care benefits. Not sure how Alaska’s state policy reads, but many (most) plans provide coverage for UNMARRIED dependents through age 21 or 23. For those plans, marriage does invalidate the dependent’s status. If Alaska’s plan does provide coverage, it would only be for the mother. The baby would not be covered unless adopted by the grandparent providing the coverage.
Hope this helps…
@ DebNo Gravatar (19:31:07)
I probably wasn’t very clear. I agree with you. SP, and her use of her kids for political purposes is uncomfortable for me, but generally fair game. Like you, it’s the kids I want to protect.
I agree that Sarah has thrown her family under a bus! But remember, she’s on a mission from G*d and he will provide. Murtha’s praying hard, I’m sure.
My question: Who is paying for Bristol’s prenatal care? If it’s through her parents insurance, that will stop if she marries. Then who will pay-will she go on Medicaid (or whatever the AK equivalent is)? Has Levi gotten a job with bennies? Is Uncle John McSame going to pay? Or will Bristol stay single for the insurance and when baby is born s/he will be on Medicaid? Isn’t this just what the conservatives rail against all the time? Of course for most evangelicals, it’s only a sin when it’s the other guy.
Here’s a link to Sarah’s debate in 2006: http://www.andrewhalcro.com/a_debate_primer006
Besides being absolutely moronic, how come more Americans don’t say to Palin:
“You moronic fool! America is America! How dare you put yourself and unborn child at risk by flying back to Alaska. What, Texas is not good enough for you! Stay in Alaska and don’t go to other states.”
I mean, if this was a Democrat, Republicans would be saying the above!
Start emailing and calling newspapers and television stations and tell them to keep the children of the candidates out of the picture. You can have “positive” stuff about them all over the place, but I can’t call Bristol “a moronic robot controlled by her parents who is a lush and a foolish slut” if I feel that way and am Obama or Biden, but I have to be forced to witness her wedding?
All is speculation, but keep her kids in the closet. How come Track and Bristol aren’t being photographed boozing it up like in the old days? Cover that more!
I believe Levi will cheat on Bristol and get some other girl knocked up.
This quote by First Dude is problematic on more than one level: “You can’t have a fish-picker from Texas.”
His wife was about to give birth to a child who tested positive for Down Syndrome. If they had done any research at all about the child they were about to bring into the world and the challenges that child might face, he would have understood that the odds were not in their favor to have a child who would be destined for a “normal” career path. Combined with the fact that she didn’t tell her own kids about the challenges their new sibling would be facing, it tells me that these people are living in some kind of dream world. It’s not just that she’s delusional about her own abilities, these people are delusional about everything.
One other thing … this isn’t ancient history. That kid is 5 months old. That kind of thinking and denial is less than 6 months old. They’re all nuts.
My apologies-I see my question has already been addressed. Didn’t read thoroughly enough. However, the point is still valid. Isn’t this a conservative battle cry-Get Big Government Out of Our Life! Big gov’t BAD when providing social services and health care for those who can’t afford them-big gov’t GOOD when it means tax cuts for the rich and ELITE.
Off-topic but newsworthy… Associated Press is reporting this story.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin routinely notes her husband’s Yup’ik Eskimo roots. But those connections haven’t erased doubts about her in a community long slighted by the white settlers who flocked to Alaska and dominate its government. Read more here…
First of all I have to wonder why people are looking at a shot-gun wedding as something that the press will follow for a week. Second, the multitasking canard applies to Sarah Palin as well as to John McCain. If she can’t help plan a wedding and show up for a debate, how in the hell is she going to be able to handle the VP duties?
I don’t think that there is going to be a wedding before the election, at least not a big splashy planned wedding. If the kids were going to get married before the election, they would already be planning the wedding.
I suspect that Bristol is refusing to become a side-show for her mother’s benefit. She will be 18 in October and at that point her mother can’t force her to do anything. I don’t even think her mother can force her to get married at 17.
I think Biden will do an excellent job in the debates. He did very well in all of the primary debates and I do not expect him to make any major gaffes. When he is very focused, he is on his game and I think that it what we will see in the debate.
As far as the speculated miscarriage drama that may occur in the coming days, that is the first thought that I had when they announce Bristol’s pregnancy. I thought our October surprise would be some trouble with the pregnancy. I certainly hope that she has a healthy pregnancy and that a real or made up drama is not created to divert attention away from Sarah Palin.
The look on that boy’s face tells it all. He’s probably wishing right now that he had been born a eunuch. To me, it is obvious that he doesn’t want to be married and would love for some giant bird to swoop down and lift him out of this mess.
something that has been bugging me throughout this entire process, why is it that in so many pictures Bristol is holding Trig. If she is his older sister, as they would have us belive, then why isn’t his father holding him while his mother speaks or performs for the crowd? While I love the idea of involved siblings, I hate the idea that an older sister is forced into a mother role to assist her own mother. I’ve seen this many times in families with many children (obviously the older brother is never tapped for this role of surrogate parent). I’m not even commenting on who is the mother, I just hate the idea that Bristol has to parent a child of her parent’s because she is a girl. If her parents made the choice to have another child, then they should be responsible for it. just because they have older kids, doesn’t mean they get to pawn the baby off.
The Repubs have provided us with the poster couple for not having premarital sex.
Has there been any mention of a due date btw? She looked pretty pregnant at the convention. She must be due in Oct or Nov right?
They have Bristol with Trig all the time to show people how brave she is for having a baby at her age and that she is going to make an excellent mother.
I don’t think she will be a great mother and I do not think she should be having a baby. Just shows that the idea of teaching and preaching abstinence DOES NOT WORK and SAFE SEX talks are IMPORTANT!
I hope when Bristol turns 18 she lashes out at her mother’s teachings and ideologies. I mean, a girl who apparently drinks like a fish, has been known to fool around with a lot of guys, and more just does not seem like her closed minded STUPID mother! But oh yeah, Palin may be broke but she is not flat busted! Actually, I think the woman is pretty damn busted!
I hear Bristol is getting advice from Lynn Spears and Billy Ray Cyrus. Levi is brokering a deal with Mark Burnett…should be better than the Nick and Jessica “divorced-from reality” show.
The more posts like this that pop up the less effect the wedding will have. I don’t think there’s much doubt that the wedding is being planned for October. The idea has come up a lot.
There is a down side to having the wedding too. Not only is it obviously using your daughter, holding a gun to the head of a guy who doesn’t want kids, but it could also bring up a lot of jokes about the color of her wedding gown etc.
To whatever extent she looks pregnant at the wedding the redneck jokes and cartoons will start to fly.
She was originally scheduled to be in a hotel in St. Louis. There are a lot of things that could (supposedly) happen to a person while spending time on a ranch out of the view of the media.”
Hey, I live really close to Sedona. Maybe I could climb on one of the red rocks and get a good view of what is going on! I’ll get back to ya!
Love the Brian story. Just thinking, in the sixties Berkeley was considered a microcosm…so goes Berkeley so goes the world. I’m wondering, with the strange events that have taken place in Alaska over the past couple of months if maybe the same thing isn’t happening there. The state has been hijacked by the McCain campaign & the people are really ticked off. What happens in Alaska & the outcome will effect the whole country. Just how much can Palin & McCain get away with. I don’t think MSM is giving the situation & it’s significance nearly enough coverage.
Maybe the McCain campaign could send in Tina Fey to take Sarah’s place during the debate. No one would notice and she has more experience than Sarah on camera.
Those of you in Alaska, what can you tell us about Levi’s parents? Where are they?
I agree with all of the comments about Bristol and the travesty of a media circus, AK-47 wedding.
But I find myself wondering about Levi’s family…
-Were they paid off?
-Afraid that Sarah would hunt them down and shoot them from an airplane?
-Offered a lifetime supply of Sarah’s now famous moose stew?
-Or did the GOP get Levi for a 6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and floor seats to a tractor pull?
What’s the story?
Julie,
Hey! Definitely try to find out what is going on out on the ranch from the locals? Maybe they have to send out for pizza or something? Is “Debate Camp” just like “Jesus Camp”? only the “T” shirts aren’t as nice?
Could anyone here imagine being in her shoes? She chose to play in the big leagues without having paid her dues in life. This would be a horrendous nightmare for most reasonable people. How could anyone do this to themselves? How could John McCain have done this to the nation and to her? I say someone has to intervene in this situation. This just cannot be allowed to go on any further. It is criminal.
I agree. Tina Fey could handle it and it would be very entertaining. It would essentially be a 90 minute SNL skit. This lady is pretty good too.
I have to say, that night that sp was being strutted as mc idiots VP pick. The camera panned down to where Bristol was sitting with trig on her lap. Levi was sitting to the right of her, bent down, and kissed trig on his head. What i saw, was _a_ father kissing his child, not an 18 yr old kissing his soon to be brother in law.
I have not read all the comments but I am still firmly convinced that Sarah Palin was never pregnant last spring, and that Trig is Bristol’s baby. For her to announce to her staff that she is six months along and they are all “blown away”–that just doesn’t happen with your fifth child. I am voting for the faked miscarriage to get rid of Bristol’s faked pregnancy in the coming weeks…which would obviate the need for a shotgun wedding I suppose…
Scenario 1, from Desperate Housewives: Girl gets pregnant. Mother hides girl away, and fakes pregnancy herself. When girl goes into labor, mother arranges secret delivery, then takes custody of the new baby as her own. Was Sarah watching? Was househusband Todd watching? Were they smart enough to work it out without the help of Hollywood writers? Were they stupid enough to think that TV is a useful guide to real life?
Or was it Scenario 2: Pregnant woman doesn’t want the baby, but can’t get an abortion. Big problem. But there’s an old-fashioned solution – cause a miscarriage by subjecting her body to some kind of stress. Impossible, because she’s pro-life? Then why did she fly to Texas in the first place, at a stage of pregnancy when, as her doctor would have told her, flying is a risk? Or did Palin not check in with her doctor before heading to Texas? Why did she start out for home after her water broke, when there are world-class doctors and hospitals in Texas? Why, on arrival in Alaska, did she bypass even her own doctor and the NICU in Anchorage, but go to Wasilla, where there is no NICU? Because “We can’t have a fishpicker from Texas”? Why not? Texas has a seacoast and plenty of fishing people. Sarah was born in Idaho, no seacoast there. Has Alaska barred people (except Sarah) born in other states from fishing? Will a Down syndrome child be able to work on a boat? The sheer stupidity of Todd’s explanation, sincere or not, boggles the mind.
Too much BS, too many wild questions, too few caring decisions. I go with the simplest explanation: Sarah was trying to kill the baby. If life begins at conception, she’s guilty of attempted murder.
sarah could have married them at any time in her capacity as a Governor.
I wonder if the young man is waiting for a DNA test.
This is not a royal couple, with dynastic issues. If they want to marry they will, if not, that is really up to the pair of them.
