McCain Camp Figures Out Sarah Palin’s Problem!

Rarely do things actually make me laugh out loud, alone in a room…especially the Wall Street Journal. But, there’s a first time for everything.

(clearing throat and trying to be serious)

Apparently Republicans have figured out what Palin’s problem is, and what she needs to do to bolster her plummeting poll numbers. I DARE you to keep a straight face.

Some prominent Republicans and senior members of Congress have expressed worries about certain facets of the Palin campaign, particularly that Gov. Palin may be “overprepared” and not encouraged to be herself, an adviser said.

And, the same article plants the seed for the “need to spend more time with my family” excuse that some are starting to think may be the excuse used to mark the end of her candidacy if things tank after the debate.

“For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said.”

Ahhh…Todd is not pleased.

But, back to the debate on Thursday… Here’s the strategy we can expect.

“It’s time to let Palin be Palin — and let it all hang out,” said Scott Reed, a Republican strategist. Yes, enough of that”overprepared” rigid Palin who lets none of her personality escape. Go ahead….let it all hang out. I’ve got my popcorn.

You guys have probably seen this already, but if not:

Andrew Sullivan is warning Dems and other Obama supporters to watch out now that the GOP is cornered and critically wounded. They are vicious at the best of times–it could get really extra ugly from here on in. Unless, of course, they completely turn on themselves, like the House started doing today. Good thing Palin is familiar with a gun–she may have to shoot her way out of Washington. She might take a few of those latte-fed carcasses with her.

What planet are the Palins from? They just assumed that their run for the VP office would be a walk in the park and not change their lives much? This just demonstrates even more that SP is not ready to lead this country if she is so naive and can’t take the heat for 30 short days, while being hidden from the media for the most part.

Well the seed has been planted, how soon does everyone think she will withdraw?

Over prepared. Well that may be true. She may have reached her limit of what she can absorb, and she may need to go home so her head can explode in private.

Kidding aside I read the (ADN?) article about how Palin’s debate style is to be perky speak in generalities, and ignore questions as she uses her time to spout her talking points.

Hard to beat that !??? :-/

AKM its clear you’re ‘paying attention’. I hope the nation does too as she does her little sound byte cheer / debate.

Does anyone think that after McCain wins the election from Palin delivering the right wing side of the party that she will then step down citing “family pressures” and Lieberman will fill in the Veep slot?

And if that’s so, how many think that if they did that right this very very second they’d likely get more votes?

The Democrats are very very smart with this. Just like Napolean’s strategy with stupid enemies, they’re letting her have as much rope as she wants to hang herself. Go Biden!

  11. 11
    CorieNo Gravatar says:

The McCain campaign is really between a rock and a hard place (several) with Sarah Palin now. They were preventing her from being herself and “letting it all hang out” because they knew the independents would run for the hills. But obviously, she’s not as trainable or as quick a study as initially thought, so she can’t be trusted to parrot back the Republican talking points in a coherent fashion. She can’t withdraw this late in the game without dealing a fatal blow to McCain. (And who would be stupid enough to pinch hit for her anyway?) Let’s see what desperate, crazy stunt McCain pulls before Thursday!

I posed this question on another post on this blog, but I’m really curious about who from Palin’s Alaska staff got posted to her “operation” i.e. her run as Veep?
I wondered if it was someone on the state’s payroll and a member of her Juneau/Anchorage staff, or is it someone from the local national campaign office.

If it is someone from the gov.’s office, would that be legal, ethical, legitimate use etc.

Anyone know anything about this. I read this on the Examiner.com

I read that Palin was going to be ensconced at the McCain ranch until the debate. If she is going to go through with the debate (I have doubts), she’ll have to pull out afterwards. This from http://www.electoral-vote.com/:

One issue that has been totally absent from the campaign is the Supreme Court. Five of the justices are 70 or more. Justice Stevens is 88 and unlikely to want to serve 4 more years. Justice Ginsberg had cancer and was operated on for it. Justice Souter is known to want to retire and return to New Hampshire. These are three of the most liberal justices on the court. If all three retire and are replaced by Obama, the court will retain its even split between liberals and conservatives for many years to come. If all three are replaced by McCain, the conservatives will have a clear majority and surely reverse Roe v. Wade and many other decisions that conservatives think are wrong. It is amazing that the court has gotten so little attention.

who knows in which thread to place this.
but i’ll first try here as it seems to be the most up-to-date.

this explanation of our current financial crisis and how it affects each and everyone of us is brief and to the point.
the writer posts regularly on the website: tvclubhouse.com which has, surprisingly, become very involved in current affairs.
    this is what she says:

“…you asked some time ago what a market crash means to people who aren’t invested in the market. This is primarily a credit crisis, and our country runs on credit. The first thing it means that people who want loans and can qualify for them won’t be able to get them.

You won’t be able to buy or sell your home. You won’t be able to buy a car. You can’t get any new credit cards, and may not be able to use your existing cards. You won’t be able to buy anything on credit at all.

A level away, it means many businesses will run out of cash. Many of them use short term lines of credit to make payroll – and that’s businesses large and small. They won’t be able to expand their businesses, move their businesses, nothing. Many of them will fail.

The dollar will fall. Everything will cost more to you – food, clothing, utilities. We will fall deeper into a recession.

As businesses fail, people will lose their jobs, maybe you will lose yours. With unemployment high, opportunities to find new jobs will be few and far between. Employers will pay less, if you can find a job at all.

So, that’s how a market crash, particularly because of a credit crisis will effect you.

And that is what our lawmakers, in all their political posturing about ‘saving Wall Street’ have either failed to convey to everyone, or don’t understand themselves.”

To this end, Palin was far more aggressive in another interview with Couric today, this aide said

Sitting with McCain for their first joint interview a week after the widely panned sit-down with Couric, Palin interjected when the CBS anchor brought up a report about the Wasilla Assembly of God, the governor’s childhood church and one she still attends at times, seeking to pray gays away from homosexuality.

“Sarah Barracuda showed up today,” the aide said, reprising the feisty former point guard’s high school basketball nickname and one that has been largely forgotten since her post-convention cosseting.

    Also,

The Palin aide, after first noting how “infuriating” it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

Shame on you CBS! How can Palin be herself if you keep releasing things she said – oops I mean things she ‘didn’t’ say….

But seriously, what other court cases would Palin need to know? Isn’t that court case the only reason she is on the ticket?

In many ways McCain/Palin share a lot in common with the Alaskan Brown Bear. They produce an inordinate amount of feces/waste come fall/election season. They produce fear. They are known to cannibalize and attack their own (other cubs/Walt Monegan).

Personally I don’t think it really matters how Palin does in the debates. McCain is on very thin ice right now.

Americans have real concerns and fears right now that require real leadership. Sarah Palin was a fun diversion but I really, really doubt there is a thinking man or woman in this country that can stomach the thought of Sarah Palin being the leader of this country.

McCain is digging a hole deeper and deeper and even if Sarah Palin could pull herself EVEN in her approval rating right now. (It’s now at -10 from a post-RNC of +17) it isn’t going to do McCain much good.

But here is my thing about Palin. She may be ‘attractive’ or superficially ‘charming’ but basically deep-down she is a mean-spirited, close-minded, snide,back-stabbing b*tch! She has no warmth or inate compassion. She have never ONCE in this entire few weeks we have ‘known’ her shown one ounce of humility or just plain old-fashioned humanity.

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/palin-says-shes.html

And now since she can be herself again this is the ‘real’ Sarah.

Here are her comments about Biden

“I’m looking forward to meeting him too,” Palin said. “I’ve never met him before. But, I’ve been hearing about his senate speeches since I was in like second grade. I have to admit though he is a great debater and looks pretty doggone confident like he’s sure he’s gonna win. But, then again this is the same Senator Biden who said the other day that the University of Delaware would trounce the Ohio State Buckeyes. Wrong!”

Q: What is the role of the US in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Afghanistan will lead to further security of our nation, especially with homeowners. It’s just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that this happens. We’ve got to remember what the desire is in their country, also. And I asked President Karzai, “Is that what President Bush has attempted to do things better. But it is to control much more than a heck of a lot of background work first and shoring up allies and positions and figuring out what sanctions perhaps could be more comfortable and certainly safer. First off, we’re going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there.

The House voted down the bailout bill. McCain, with the words, “I’m responsible for the bail…” caught in his throat, coughed and switched to,”I meant, Pelosi and Obama are to blame.” Markets are plunging around the world, (when do they open in Asia again? about now?) and that big, old, ugly piper has got us by the collar, feet dangling, demanding to be paid.

I looked at the vote from my state’s delegation and saw that my guy was the only one, R or D, (he’s D) to vote against it. Now that took guts. I called his office and left the message that I support his vote.

Pepper, I’ll take your bet! I think there’s NO WAY Sarah Palin can drop out at this point. The only reason McCain is doing as well as he is (and that’s not saying much) is because the Republican base is excited about Palin. If she leaves the ticket and he picks Lieberman, those right-wingers are gone. McCain knew he couldn’t pick Lieberman from the outset because there was going to be a revolt at the Republican Convention. If he changes horses (er, maybe mooses?) mid-stream, that will be tantamount to admitting that he has terrible judgment, as if that’s not obvious already. I think we’re all stuck with Palin. I’m actually OK with that now because I think she’s clearly a drag on the ticket, which means…OBAMA/BIDEN ’08!

That said, I do think McCain has got plenty of other Hail Mary stunts he can pull. That man has no shame.

  95. 95
    votepalinNo Gravatar says:

I do agree with the sentiment that Palin is over-coached. Whenever I watch McCain and see him plaster a smile on his face and start blinking, then I know he’s really angry. He looks like on old-school, high school football coach who’s watching a bad pass from his quarterback turn into an interception and is telling himself with all his might that he can’t lose it. In the Stephanopoulos interview on Sunday McCain was grimacing and batting his eyes in joy over Palin. Maybe over-coaching is an insufficient term: Maybe it’s McCain cursing her out, bossing her around, and second guessing her that’s making her lose her mojo. She’s probably getting one message from aides and another message (or two, or three) from McCain. Okay, plus she doesn’t know jack.

I’m by no means an apologist for McPain, but Palin didn’t get this far without being smart and tough. However Palin’s experience is still like taking the smartest kid from a tiny high school who’s used to winning all the awards and honors and dumping her at Harvard Law School and saying “edit the law review!”. It’s a nasty learning curve. And she’s got better aptitude in sports than law.

I think if Palin comes out swinging, IGNORES Gwen Ifill, spouts memorized lines, and REFUSES to clarify any statement she’s made that she stands a chance to look good in the debate. And Biden must channel Obama and take the absolute high road with her. Palin looks particularly bad when she attempts to clarify herself or do any explaining. She’s got the cute, perky, spunky thing down pat and could probably throw a few good zingers at Biden if given an opening. But I think she’s not used to having to explain herself or be questioned. She can’t exactly fire reporters after she’s agreed to being interviewed, so being questioned by them and not being able to get away with a pat, cute statement or not fire them must be freaking her out.

And the “I can see Russia from my house” issue has absolutely gotten into her head. I don’t know: Maybe they’ll make her see a therapist. Or a hypnotist. Or bring in Muthee and scare the witchcraft away from her. I think during the Couric interview she was planning to make light of the “Russia from my house” issue, stumbled on the word “caricature”, then got pissed, turned away from Couric, and then chewed at the word “mock” that Couric threw at her as a life line. Sarah cannot laugh at herself. But she can go into attack mode.

Democrat, I be, but I know Romney has more financial smarts in one finger than in McCain’s head. In the past few weeks Every…thing, everything, has gone wrong for the McCain/Palin ticket and she, after consenting due to her own hubris to be the nominee, making unforgivable gaffs, and now the realization of the electorate that they would rather have Tina Fey for VP, has sent the campaign into meltdown. I’ve become a conspiracy theorist! OMG!

Someone on one of the threads asked what happened behind the scenes that caused McCain to select SP.

OK, so SP reports Randy Ruedrich, the chair of the Alaskan Rethug Party, because he is conducting party business from a State Office. She knew exactly what she was doing and did it to position herself for a ‘run’ at something. She probably wasn’t sure what at that point. Randy loses his job, pays a fine, but won’t resign the Rethug chairmanship.

She gets elected Gov (without Randy’s help) and tries every which way she can to get rid of old Randy. He won’t resign. The FBI shows up, investigates a bunch of the good old boys and indicts the carp out of a bunch of them. SP has no direct role in any of it but is gleeful and happy to take credit.

Randy has some clout with the RNC. He convinces them that if they run Sarah as the VP, that Congressman Don Young (under investigation) and Senator Ted Stevens (currently on trial for a felony) will stand a better chance of winning relection this fall. The coat tail effect and believe me, the polls here show both of them leading their democrat challengers. Unbelievable but true.

The Rethugs would rather have failed and corrupt politicians win in November than Democrats. If they are both convicted and forced to resign, there must be a new election and at least the rethugs have an opportunity to hold on to those seats.

Randy gets rid of Sarah, Don and Ted’s seats are at least retrievable, and best yet….the remaining good old boys network is intact and Sarah-proof for at least four years.

    Sheesh….it’s almost believable.

So Todd, I think, has been covering for her ever since they got married–in their family, in the mayor’s office, and in the governor’s office. Although I do not see him as “the power behind the throne,” I think he has been monitoring everything she does and making sure that she doesn’t completely bomb at it– making sure that she appears to be minimally competent. Now that they are separated physically, there is no one to rescue her, and her lack of intelligence is showing. He was able to keep it somewhat hidden until she decided to run for VP.

    DebNo Gravatar says:

from the get-go there is something about sarah that has bothered me. granted, I am an “older”woman with four grown children…and while I am a feminist…I have always tried to keep priorities in check. I just sent this off to Mccain/palin….but to me, it represents the problems I have with sarah…not as a republican…but as a woman and a mother.

    Dear Sarah,

I am writing as a mother of four BEAUTIFUL grown children (my youngest is now 27). I was lucky enough to be married to a man who was a wonderful “provider” when my children were growing up, and that allowed me the “luxury”, even though I had a Master’s degree in a profession was in high demand, to make that choice to allow me to stay at home on a part- time basis to raise children(not as glamorous as running for VP, I know). As the children came and grew, their activities/schooling/teaching became paramount in our lives. (Other than the challenge of having twins, we had four children born without physical or mental challenges)

As the children grew, over the years (with four children that is a LOT of years), I was a T-ball mom, a soccer mom, a ballerina mom, a music mom, a drama mom, and a religious-education mom. In other words, I was there for ALL four of my children and those significant activities/interests/moments in their lives. I read where you were a hockey mom…I assume that was with Track. What are Bristol’s, Piper’s, oh my gosh….the middle one seems to be lost all together …oh yes, Meghan’s, and what will be, Trig’s interests? You obviously have five children and yet you are JUST a “hockey mom”? Do you think by labeling yourself as a “hockey mom” you have ignored/diminished the other interests/activities of your other four children?

All of those “blessed” years I had with my four children while they were growing up, allowed me the time to instill in them the values that I hold dear–we are ALL equal and respect and value those differences among us, don’t make excuses for you not stepping up to a task, make good choices (I am there for you when the “choice” isn’t clear, to GUIDE you, not to DICTATE), education (in whatever form it takes) makes you a better person)….I could go on and on. To me…and I think if you asked EACH of my four children…the most important thing for ME and for them was that they ALL knew I was there for them. Sure, I balanced part-time work and a not-so happy marriage. And to this day I know I did not do all that I COULD have done to be a better parent. But, I tried to be there. I’m not running for VP….but that is my legacy I was THERE for them. So when you say you are a mother of 5 children and yet, JUST a hockey mom…and your CHOICE , as you said, made “without blinking”, is to run in a campaign which pretty much IGNORES the four children who do NOT play hockey, I have a problem with that.

I am also an educator. That is my profession. That is my love. Call me a “maverick”. And it is not popular to be a maverick these days, but the SINGLE most important factor in a child’s education is the influence of a parent. (and note, I did NOT say TWO parents). I realize that today we have many one-parent families today trying to balance it all…..and I feel for that, and understand that. That’s why we need LEADERS, we need WOMEN/MOTHERS/PARENTS to stand up and say …….the SINGLE most important thing we can do to raise the bar, educationally, for our children is to BE THERE as parents! (By the way, unless you can afford it, that does NOT mean shipping them off to a private school. Most of us cannot afford private school even WITH vouchers) You do not represent that model to me…..and you are not a “single” mother trying to balance it all! You have the “choice”…..and it is clear what your choice is! I see LOTS of upper middle class families choosing career over being there for their children…and somehow, the public schools are to blame for this CHASM in child-rearing!!! I see MANY poor/lower class families who, because of economics, are FORCED to work two and three jobs (per parent) to make ends meet and you are the role model—choose work over family. The single most effective way to fix education in this county is to fix the great disparity between rich and poor!! It has NOTING to do with public education. My four children, who I brag about so unashamedly, are the product of public education. ALL are college graduates. Three have post-grad degrees, and the fourth is finally working towards it. Two are working BEYOND Master’s degrees.

I am blessed. I have four beautiful children, all of whom graduated from high school, went on to college, graduated…and are married or soon to be married. I saw your interview with Katie where you seemed to “scorn” those of us who would encourage our children to look beyond the horizon. (All 4 of my children had passports before 6th grade, and we were MIDDLE class) I am STILL middle class… (Although your running mate and his calculation of “wealth” would call me “poor”) and STILL would encourage the students I work with to look BEYOND their horizon’s and BEYOND where they are and yes, even get a passport!

But, Sarah, from a mother of four children….to a mother of FIVE (which includes a special needs child) I challenge you to be a ROLE MODEL….for education, for family values and for integrity. Then you would have this woman’s vote. TIMING!!

    Sincerely,
    Deb

Yanno… I’m a non-political foreigner grubbing away quietly in the backwoods swamps of Minnesota after a decade of grubbing away quietly in the backwoods mountains of Arizona. As a resident but not citizen, I’m not allowed to vote. Not that I could remember what the difference between Republicans and Democrats is anyway, or who’s who in politics at large. TV service isn’t in my poor-people budget or among my desired distractions from life as pertains to me either. In short, I’m not into politics and have very little knowledge of or interest in the topic.

Enter Palin. She’s got me hooked, but much less in her capacity as a potential VP than from a more personal standpoint.

There’s the fear that she might actually get to go where she wants to go – McCain does after all have a lot of people on his side – which I see as a horror story in the making. Danger, red alert, the works. Not so much because of her current lack of qualifications, but because she’s got what it takes to be big bomb and red button and ready finger combined. If you ask me, Palin is a very unstable and unsafe package.

Then there’s my very own feeling of having been betrayed – citizen or not, I’ve made a home in this country for some 18 years and my flag ain’t frizzed, and when I’m presented with a potential VP who, without blinking, in less than a month, proves herself to be less qualified for the job than I was as city clerk (and boy, did I stink at it), then I feel like The Big Guy(s) pulled the wool over my eyes. Deliberately, too. Deceivingly. Trying to sell me a French poodle for a working dog. I resent that.

For her own part, I feel towards Palin like I’d feel towards any “Hochstapler” – a con man, swindler, whatever the correct translation may be. Someone like the fake Rockefeller, Mr. Gerhartsreiter. Palin breezed onto the national scene full of claims about her accomplishments and abilities and qualifications, arrogant and cocksure, radiating the conviction that she’s in her rightful place on the way to the White House. Now that she herself, with her own words, has collapsed her house of cards, I can’t help snickering. It’s a nasty thing to do, but Gawd, I can’t help it. I like it when the holier-than-thou and the moose-shootinger-than-thou and the pitbullier-than-thou and especially selfish con (wo)men crash and burn. It’s a justice thing. I like justice.

And I like the truth. Aside from the fact that a presidential race and truth have never been in the same basket, there are guidelines to follow, IMO. Palin and her camp went way too far out of line as those guidelines go, and frankly, you don’t have to be in a particular political camp to see that.
I’m adding my voice (if not my unauthorized signature and voting mark) to those who ask for her accountability for past misdeeds and her return to – oh my… poor Alaska… is it ok to wish for her slinking back to Alaska? It seems unfair to Alaska. But lacking a better idea, that’s what I ask for.

Baltimore Rookie Joe Flacco played brilliantly in the first half but he could not see the field to the same degree as experienced Big Ben as the intensity level went up at the end.

Esoteric Translation For the Debate #1: Joe Biden can see the true “field of vision” in the world. Sarah Palin does not have full vision of the field of the world. She does not have enough game experience to sense the flow of energies. She has never thought about any of the pressing big issues in the world right now. She does not understand the nuance of DOWN and DISTANCE. She cannot call the right plays in specific situations. Joe Biden must exploit this. He must force her to call a play in a specific down and distance situation. He must force her to make a specific statement on specific situations in the world.

The Steelers stayed in the game to achieve Overtime because of a devastating hot head penalty cheap shot by a Baltimore player that led to the Steelers keeping a drive alive that led to a go ahead score.

Esoteric Translation For the Debate #2: Joe Biden must patiently wait for her to try one of her cheap shots in her arrogant weakness. (For example: “I was in second grade when Joe Biden started giving speeches…”) If she succumbs to one of these ignorant un-Presidential cheap shot idiocies at any time in the debate, Joe must exploit it by IMMEDIATELY getting a first down and throwing deep on her. He must do this swiftly for a devastating game changer score. He must totally exploit every idiotic cheap shot she tries to inflict.

The Steelers held Baltimore in Overtime on their first series, got the ball back, and won on their solid existing kicking game by inches.

Esoteric Translation For the Debate #3: Obama is steady in his presentation. He did well in the first debate. He has two more. His longer, much more coherent political ads during the game tonight were much more steady and informative than McCain’s shorter ads. He must keep this kicking game steady. In contrast, Joe Biden must go into full attack mode once Sarah Palin starts to make fatal mistakes. Every gaffe and every idiot cheap shot mistake she makes on the real play calling on down and distance on the world playing field, must be ruthlessly exploited by using turn around jujitsu on her own energy. It must finally be depicted as blood on the snow. None of her buzz words and robotic talking points must be allowed to be sufficient. She must be forced to call a play in front of sixty million people and have her highly specific play call being shut down, nullified, and sacked by her own lack of vision in seeing the true playing field of the world.

Thus sayeth the Spirit of the Wolf Mother in terms of the Steelers Overtime Esoteric Cosmic Symmetry Win.

Where I work, we call this kind of esoteric analysis to try to Divine business solutions “footballization”. When my CIO boss needs to decide something, his wife (she works there too) says for me to go and “footballize it” with her husband. She knows that “footballization” takes the stress out of him and he always finds a solution on our walks. Somehow GWB missed this kind of cosmic insight with his mere Harvard MBA training. But it works for us as devoted Steeler fans. It works every time. We have gone from nothing to $55 million in revenues as a start-up in the same economy everyone else is facing.

So if you are reading this Joe, here is perhaps a strategy to consider from the Mudflats in my interpretation of the Cosmic Message from the Spirit of the Wolf Mother by divining using the insights of “footballization.”

Yes. I know the market dropped 700 points today. The bill is in deadlock. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? But tonight we got the win. We will face tomorrow.

I just read someone’s post, asking why anyone would vote for McCain.

A while back a woman I know send out a mass email about Obama. It was one of those viral mass emails that is more rumor than truth. And no one bothers to fact check before sending it on.

First let me say, she and I were always on friendly terms. We worked together and always got along socially.

The email went on to encourage the recipients to vote for McCain-Palin.

I decided to reply, and nicely explained my issues with Palin, and why I would never vote that ticket.

She sent me a long email back, which basically summed up her distrust of Obama, and his ties to terrorist, and that he was in essence out for “whitey” (her word, not mine). She then went onto say that she was willing to take a risk on Palin, because she felt Obama was so un-American.

My only response to her, was a link to a reputable site that had explained the Ayers situation.

Well recently this woman had the option of working in our office, or another across town. She chose the other. And she told one of the bosses, it was because she couldn’t work with me. The impression was that we had “gotten into it” over politics.

I was stunned. My email was friendly, and SHE was the one who opened the political discussion, not me, when she sent out the nasty Obama email.

My husband told me not to worry about it, that the woman was not the brightest.

BUT….the answer to the initial question, ignorance and bigotry is a hard nut to crack.

Ok, one thing I’d like to know is this: If Palin is serious about her particular brand of faith – which she appears to be – how could she possibly deal with non-Christians both inside and outside the country? Having spent an hour in an Assembly Of God service a few years ago, I’d throw in those abhorred Catholics too, but let’s keep it simple for now. How could she leave her religious convictions out of the picture when making decisions involving people or governments which she must consider Godless heathens? And if she could manage to make politically sound decisions aside from her religious convictions, wouldn’t she stand before her church fellows a lying hypocrite?

    Rene in TexasNo Gravatar says:

I received this in an email I just wanted to see what others thought about this plan. If this is what we could receive with 85 bil what would 700 bil equal.
    ———————————————————-

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in
    a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000
    bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman
and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
    We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks
who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company
that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out
a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it.
    Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
    Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.

Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned
instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh…I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

    Q. and McCains manner of speaking sounds….fake.

    A. ha ha, yes, more of you are noticing… my opinion, coming from an acting teacher: He does not like her. He’s stiff because he is very uncomfortable. Watch the feeds from the Convention. He knows he screwed up big time by letting the far right slip her in. He’s even snippier than usual (did ya see his remark to katie tonight – VERY rude. If Biden or Obama did that to Katie the Conserves would crucify them.) because he’s on the defensive. He doesn’t look at people he doesn’t like, very often. He glances at Palin, or watches her, but doesn’t engage with her at all.

And yes, Todd is her “handler”. How many far far right evangelical fundamentalist women with power do you know? Hardly any. But just like someone said above, she likes the limelight (beauty queen, tv journalist, public office) and they needed a front “woman” to get all the PTA mom’s to line right up. First “Dud” likes the power too. The really scary thing is, Who is giving Todd Boy orders? Because I don’t see a great enough brain power, common sense, or education to be able to do anything by themselves.

There are many people in the world who are very smart, and they don’t have to have a degree, but they have to have common sense and the ability to see different points of view and accept different points of views. They accept rather than judge. OK, if you don’t want an abortion, that’s fine. But why can’t someone else, in a different situation, make up their own minds?

There is a great article on the webb, relating the common ground between the Islamic Fundamentalists and the Evangelical fundamentalists. The far far of either spectrum is no different, they just fight under a different name for their God. And remember, they follow the Machiavelli theory of “The End Justifies the Means”, so telling a lie to the “devils”, is A O K.

I have no idea where all of you live, but if you all live in Alaska, I wish more of you would send your children to live in the midwest, cause that’s where the scary people outnumber the smart/common sense/elitist/ normal people.. and I just hope she goes down so bad that she gets thrown out of your state before she does any more damage.

Thanks, Enjay. That’s what I based my question on – her inability, so far, to separate personal beliefs and public service. It just seems impossible to me that she should be able to do a 180 going from local and state politics to national and international politics. It’s another thing that makes her dangerous… and I think that no amount of “cramming for knowledge” can outdo what’s running her mind. She may be able to learn to cover it up well for the sake of her public image (i.e., apparent vote-worthiness), but her stripes are inside her skin and I don’t see them changing.

Interesting to me is that much of what seems to be so attractive about her here (to her fans, of course) is a big turnoff to people in Europe. You can’t really find a good word about her on German-language news sites and the BBC. A European is hard pressed to be infatuated with a politician whose claim to fame is “I’m just like you” and things like shooting moose and liking hockey. If it’s the same distance from where you live to the nearest trouble spot of Islamic fighting as it is from the US coast to Kansas, a hockey mom in America isn’t what you’re hoping and praying for… you want skilled, capable, serious politicians at the top of the country which has the power to make all hell break loose in your neighborhood.

I haven’t read anything mentioning race (black/white isn’t really a topic of general interest there), but people do get suspicious when someone comes barging in with Jesus on his or her shoulder. Religious hardliners have wreaked much havoc on Europe (and beyond) over the centuries, so the suspicion – or call it caution – seems justified. The same goes for gung-ho warmongers.

JT, that’s what I’m thinking. My sister and I discussed very briefly what we think of Palin, and we both came up with “Hitler”. Not that there’s a direct comparison, mind you, but some of the parallels are nevertheless scary. The immense personal ambition to make it to the top (didn’t Palin say “I want to be president” when she was told she might make governor in as little as – what, ten years?), the using of people to climb up and then the dropping of them (how many of those who paved her way to governorship has she fired since then?), the knack for rallying masses of people by way of “talk” (she’s credited with having a real gift for “reading” an audience and knowing and delivering what they want to hear)… these are just a few examples that don’t have much weight over here and yet seem so obvious where people have cheered and then suffered from a politician’s blind ambition and refusal to keep personal interests and public duty apart.

Honestly, if there’s only little old McCain between her and the presidency, she’d be as good as there. The mind reels at the thought.

    JTNo Gravatar (23:21:32) :

If by some horrid chance McCain wins, I do not for a minute believe Palin would agree to drop out. She is a narsisist, and believes she is smarter than she is. I believe she will do what she can to get power, once she is in office.

I received this in an email I just wanted to see what others thought about this plan. If this is what we could receive with 85 bil what would 700 bil equal.

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. etc>>>

This email has been doing the rounds for some time.
I was told that it is incorrect…too many zeros (0000s).
Apparently if the $85 billion was divided out each person would only get about $425

Don’t believe for a moment that McCain will give her anything meaningful to do as VP. He has just used her to get the vote. She will be shut out and relagated to social functions. OHHHH POOR Sarah….NOT.

Oh my! I knew this was a unique and talented group of people (NO! I am not talking about ME!), but you folks, collectively, have restored my belief that there is a huge group of us who are largely unnoticed but genuinely concerned about the future of America…and we may just be the October/November surprise!

Your shared experiences have made me laugh, cry, play my “oldies but goodies RECORDS”, call former “partners in crime” to reminisce, hunt-up old pictures and giggle…and, most of all, LONG TO BE IN A JAIL CELL WITH JAMES TAYLOR!

Thanks for allowing us to peek into your pasts, in hopes of rekindling the unity required for changing our country’s future!

    Mr. Palin = reTODD

second. Joe Biden has just as much common man appeal as SWWNBN has as the hockey mom. If she goes on about her family life, he can too. And he can talk about his son in Iraq, if she does. he can talk about taking the train to work, too. That will be a losing argument for her. He’s the opposite of elitist, IMHO. And his smile lights up a room as well as hers.

I suggest you go back to shots. Why be sober in the second half-hour? If you train yourselves to associate Palin’s ravings with tasty munchies, you will end up thinking of her every time you have some – wouldn’t work for me, how about you?

    No.

“If not then how do we know that they are complying?”

Search under Palin’s hair if she’s wearing it down.

“Also do they know the questions in advance?”

If the questioner is honest, no.

Not totally farfetched. In 1900 the New York State Republicans pushed Governor Theodore Roosevelt to run for vice president because they wanted him out of New York. McKinley and Roosevelt were elected, and then McKinley got blown away. McCain claims to be a successor to Roosevelt – but could Palin be hoping she is?

Ira, you wrote : “I have no college education :o ( I never even finished high school. Is there any way to be “elitist” just on account of having a brain, or am I doomed to be an enemy in Palin’s camp?”

I would not have guessed, after reading your other messages, that you have not had the benefit of higher education. So the answer to your question is, Yes. You think, and you write in complete, grammatical sentences. Therefore you are the enemy.

Steve, I was taken out of school halfway into 10th grade just before the school would have kicked me out :o ) It was less embarrassing for my parents that way. My grades in English were the German equivalent of the American “F” for several years running before that, so it’s rather obvious that “school” and “I” simply never got along. I’ve always been a voracious reader, though, and incorrigibly curious about everything and nothing.

Being free to make up one’s mind based on a grand variety of information rather than having to go by limited and pre-chewed opinion would serve our politicians well too – and even more Us The People. ‘Course, that’s not realistic, but it’s a nice dream.
