Did anyone just hear Palin crack on Joe Biden’s age, saying she has been following his speeches since she was in 2nd grade? Are you kidding me? She also was referring to Biden’s gaffe that the Obama/Biden ticket didn’t believe in clean coal. If she pulls THAT out of her makeup bag of tricks at the debate, I hope Biden retorts, “Governor Palin, one would hardly think that YOU would be the appropropriate authority to begin a discussion on gaffes and misstatements.”

Quick side note- We need to be careful here with this bailout. They are already twisting this to be a “demo” problem. This will adversely affect all of us if there is not something worked out. My husband said the rumblings in the International markets (he watches it like I read Mudflats-nonstop) are really freaking. Apparently this is much bigger and scarier than we know and will really hurt us all if this is not dealt with. This is a last effort to separate from BUSH and they are blaming Obama (?). McCain is trying to say that he did his part and Obama “dialed” it in and thus the failure. I appreciate the sentiment “I’m not paying for this!” but do we really understand this problem enough to be able to say that? Credit is frozen for all businesses (small and otherwise). This will trickle down in not such a good way. I am really pissed that we are in this predicament but we are and we need to figure out a solution, now. The talks are on break for the Jewish holidays so maybe wiser minds will prevail on Thursday. This is becoming a partisan issue and missinformation will run rampant. My point in all this is to say we need to support our legislators without condoning a give away. It is not about “Just say NO” because it just isn’t enough this time. They MUST find a solution together. Sorry if I offended anyone but this will affect the election one way or another. I’m off my soapbox now. ;)

    mvngfwdNo Gravatar (11:12:23) : ,

I studied it over the weekend as to whether the “Credit Freeze” is a bold faced manipulative lie and just a tactic for the fat cat bankers to get off the hook. After research, I now side with Warren Buffett and your husband. It is true. Firewalls are going to go unless something is done to restore both national and international inter bank lending.

As hard working Americans we are all justifiably mad as hell that the doofus scum on Wall Street did this to us. But we can settle that later. I suggest firing squads at all the upscale country clubs in Connecticut after this has all been stabilized maybe five years in the future. Also that the people now take over all BMW, Audi, and Mercedes dealerships within 100 miles of New York City in the name of the People’s Republic of Wall Street. Also, New York State license plates by Federal Law must now have a Hammer and Sickle on them.

But in this hour the U.S. Congress and Senate must act. Too bad free market Republican ideologues. You must vote for government intervention now even with Federal Reserve fiat money. Eat your ideology and your shirt and your children now. You got us into this mess with your highly leveraged derivative heads up your asses. I say Wall Street wives should go to the firing squads too when the time comes.

But for right now I agree with mvngfwd’s husband. The Credit Freeze is real. The consequences will be dire. We must act.

    To mvngfwd
Your side note assumes that anyone in congress knows how much of a problem this is. We have NO information to date as to what this is all about. The assumption, on my part, is that a totally deregulated Wall Street has stolen trillions of our childrens’ and grandchildrens’ future earnings under our very noses. The seriousness is because China, Japan etc. want their money back and have probably threatened some nasty consequences if we don’t bail them out. We will never be able to resume our position as a first rate country if we allow this to become a partisan issue and allow those who got us into this situation to lay low and start stealing again in a few years. Let’s take the medicine now and have a full accounting. Let’s lay to final rest the trickle-down economic theories, the American business works best if government stays out of it theory. The car companies spend millions on lobbyists to resist CAFE standards while their foreign competitors make the cars we need. Then they come cap in hand for federal loans, while still disavowing global warming! Thank god we have one intelligent couple running this year, however hamstrung they might be by the disaster that has been the last 8 years.

Pelosi inserted POLITICS in her speech (big time). Republicans were offended and some just held a press conference saying that Pelosi’s remarks changed their votes.

Now, I agree, Nancy should have been a LEADER today and left out the political slam. However, if Repubs didn’t vote for a bill they believed in, who’s putting “country first”?

McCain is actually/potentially in big trouble for this no-vote fiasco. He was bragging about how he pulled it together in his speech in Ohio this morning. Now it shows how clueless he was for the outcome. All his phone calls did nada.

Don’t be so quick to blame Nancy like the Repubs did. Like Barney Frank said – if they are going to take it out on the entire country (and world) just because they got their feelings hurt in a speech by Nancy – then they are going to have to pay the consequences.

I was so proud to sign this. I lived in Alaska from 1960 to 1979. I have a son who still lives in Wasilla. This makes me sick. Sure, the political scene wasn’t perfect during that time, but we were envied and admired by everyone on the “outside”. Now, unfortunately, Alaska is becoming a laughing stock to many outsiders. This is very sad. Alaska, to me, used to be exactly what America stood for. Sure, sometimes things were not perfect. I remember Ted Stevens and some of the stuff he pulled (or tried to) during that time. I remember when he and his wife were in the plane crash and she died. Never, ever, when interviewed..from his hospital room to Washington did I ever hear or read of any sorrow from him. It was always “me, my, mine…” Sad, sad, sad. Anyway, I’m with all of you Alaskans….I still feel like one. It never leaves once you have lived there and felt truly “Alaskan”.

I am DISGUSTED by Congress. IF, and it’s a big if, Pelosi’s ill-timed comments are the reason a dozen changed their vote, shame on them. Talk about partisanship.

Who’s putting country first? Do any of them really care? Nobody is willing to put their a$$ on the line and do the right thing. They just want to win in their next election. Do they fail to realize that in this economic climate nobody wins?

Commentators are saying this is a huge repudiation of Bush White House. Great, both parties can distance themselves from Bush. What about the American people??? You’re distancing yourselves from us too. Dow down 777. And it’s not just the Dow. That’s a mere indicator of the bigger problem.

Sorry to say that, inasmuch as this is about the accountability of an Alaska appointed official (Attorney General Talis Colberg) and an Alaska elected official (Gov. Sarah Palin) to the people of Alaska, I think the petition would be much more effective if it were restricted to Alaska registered voters. I thought that Saturday when I signed it at the rally too, & saw there was no effort made to ensure that signatories were Alaska registered voters. Alaska state government has no obligation of accountability by non-Alaskans for an issue of Alaska law and governance. It DOES have an obligation to be accountable to Alaska residents. So I doubt they will credit this petition at all, as ANYONE can sign it.

I echo Mel’s statement. To have any real impact the petition must be signed by registered alaskan voters only! Collecting signatures for “Clean Elections” we were to sign up only registered voters as unregistered ones would be thrown out.

AKM, please start a new petition for registered Alaskan voters. While the numbers of signatures on the present one are impressive, the out of state signers have no legal basis to be counted. Signed, and it’s over 500. I don’t think it matters if you live in AK or not. This is not a legal petition in any case, unless AK is wonderfully more permissive than most states. Generally, you have to be a registered voter to sign a petition to get something put on the ballot.

In any case, this is the computer age — it should be within the petition site’s powers to produce a subset of signatures from AK (although, there is no easy way to verify a claimed address — yeah, you could use the ip address for an approximation, and ISPs know the billing address of email accounts, but that’s theoretically private info).
