Dad Tries to Get Mrs. Couric to Change Sarah’s Grade.
It happened again. This time Katie Couric managed not only to make Sarah Palin look bad, but John McCain look worse! What was her diabolical secret? She used that secret weapon – asking questions. In this one-on-two interview, John McCain showed up to sit with Sarah to make sure she didn’t screw up too badly, and tried to keep that big bad journalist on a short leash. Saturday night in Philadelphia, Palin was questioned by a Temple graduate student about whether the U.S. military should cross the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan. She answered, “If that’s what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should,” Palin said.
That was the subject of Katie Couric’s first question. Palin basically repeated what Barack Obama had said during the Presidential debate, when John McCain scoffed at him and patronizingly admonished him by saying, “You don’t say that out loud.” (subtext: you naive little idiot!)
McCain, in this joint interview, is obviously under stress. He squirms and blinks. You look at him and listen to the tone of his voice, and you know he’s a man on edge. He’s a pressure cooker who’s keeping the lid on with all his might. Palin, comes across as cool and confident (except for that nervous lip lick she does, and the occasional clenched jaw), but with Palin, it’s the transcript that is fascinating. You really have to read the “blizzard of words” to fully appreciate the extent to which she isn’t saying anything.KC: Over the weekend, Governor Palin, you said the US should “absolutely” launch cross-border attacks from Afghanistan to Pakistan to “stop the terrorists from coming any further in” now that’s almost the exact position that Barack Obama has taken and you, Senator McCain, have criticizes as something you do not say out loud. So, Governor Palin, are you two on the same page on this?SP: We had a great discussion with President Zardari as we talked about what it is that America can and should be doing together, to make sure that the terrorists do not cross borders, and do not ultimately put themselves in the position of attacking America again, or her allies. And we will do what we have to do to secure the United States of America and her allies. KC: Is that something you shouldn’t say out loud Senator McCain?JM: Of course not. But look, I understand this day and age “gotcha journalism”. Was that a pizza place? In a conversation with someone who…you didn’t hear the question very well…you don’t know the context of the conversation…grab a phrase. Uh, Governor Palin and I agree you don’t announce that you’re going to attack another country.KC: Are you sorry you said it, Governor?JM: Now wait a minute! Before you say is she sorry she said it, this was a gotcha sound bite.
KC: It wasn’t a gotcha. She was talking to a voter.
JM: She was in a conversation. She was in a conversation with a group of people, and talking back and forth…and I…I don’t…I’ll let Governor Palin speak for herself.
SP: In fact you’re absolutely right on. In the context, this was a voter…a constituents hollerin’ out a question from across an area asking, “What are you gonna do about Pakistan? You better have an answer to Pakistan.” I said, “We’re going to do what we have to do to protect the United States of America.”
KC: You were pretty specific about what you wanted to do – cross border…
SP: (interrupting) As Senator McCain is suggesting here also, never would our administration get out there and show our cards to, uh, terrorists, in this case to enemies, and let them know what the game plan was, not when that could ultimately adversely affect a plan to keep America secure.
KC: What did you learn from that experience?
SP: That this IS all about gotcha journalism. A lot of it is! But that’s OK too.
KC: Governor Palin, since our last interview, you’ve gotten a lot of flack. Some Republicans have said you’re not prepared, you’re not ready for prime time. People have questioned your readiness since that interview, and I’m curious to hear your reaction.
SP: Well, not only am I ready, but willing and able to serve as Vice President with Senator McCain if Americans so bless us and privilege us with the opportunity of serving them. Ready with my executive experience as a city mayor and manager, as a governor, as a commissioner, a regulator of oil and gas.
JM: This is not the first time I’ve seen a governor questioned by some…quote “expert.” I remember that Ronald Reagan was a cowboy. President Clinton was the governor of a very small state that had no experience either. I remember how easy it was going to be for Bush 1 to defeat him. I still recall…whoops…that one. But the point is uh, I’ve seen uh, underestimation before. I’m very proud of the excitement that Gov. Palin has ignited with our party around this country. It is a level of excitement and enthusiasm frankly that I’ haven’t seen before and I’d like to attribute it to me, but the fact is that she has done an incredible job and I’m so proud of the work that she’s doing.
Now, I’m not the one who brought up Bill Clinton, and I wouldn’t have if I were John McCain. BUT….since he did, I thought it would be fun to look at this other governor of a “very small state that had no experience either.” First of all, notice that McCain said “either,” so he is pretty much admitting that Palin has no experience. But lets compare “very small states.”
Alaska: population 626,932. 1.1 people per square mile. Borders a whole lot of empty space in Canada.
Arkansas: population 2,673,400. 51.1 people per square mile. Borders six states.
So John McCain is comparing these two states to justify Palin’s abilities. Arkansas has almost 5 times the population, and 50 times the population density than Alaska. And it has neighbors.
But we won’t quibble. This isn’t a “who’s the smallest” contest. Let’s get to the real meat of McCain’s argument. Let’s compare Bill Clinton’s no experience, with Palin’s “no experience either.”
Clinton: After attending Georgetown on scholarships, he received a B.S. in Foreign Service. After graduation he received a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford where he studied government. He attended and graduated Yale Law School. He was a professor at the University of Arkansas. He was the Attorney General of the State of Arkansas. He was the governor of Arkansas for 10 years. He was the Chair of the National Governor’s Association. He also worked on state and national campaigns.
Palin: One semester at Hawaii Pacific University, two semesters at North Idaho College as a general studies major, two semesters at the University of Idaho, one semester at the Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska, and three semesters at the Univeristy of Idaho, graduating with a B.S. in communications-journalism. She worked briefly as a sportscaster for an Alaskan TV station and as a sportswriter for the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman newspaper. She spent several years as a homemaker, and four years on the Wasilla city council. She served two terms as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (pop. 7000), and twenty months as Governor of the aforementioned state with a little over half a million people in it.
So McCain’s argument is that if Bill Clinton could be a successful president, than surely Sarah Palin could. At least that’s what he’s trying to convince the teacher in this weirdly awkward parent-teacher converence. We all know that Sarah’s been trying really hared, but somehow I don’t think Mrs. Couric is going to change her grade.

Poor John.
So unmisunderstood by everyone but the post turtle and his own inflated ego.
He interjected to answer a question asked of Palin, but then after making himself look like a blathering idiot, he tells Couric that Palin can answer the question for herself.
If I scratch my head any more than I have the past month, I am going to have a head with as much hair as telly sevalis.
Palin witness changes story under oath on Troopergate
http://www.pubrecord.org/politics/359-palin-implicated-by-witness-in-troopergate-probe.html
====================
Murlene Wilkes, the proprietor of Harbor Adjusting Services in Anchorage, had originally denied that she was pressured by Gov. Palin’s office to deny state trooper Mike Wooten’s claim for workers compensation benefits.
But Wilkes changed her story two weeks ago when she was subpoenaed by Steven Branchflower, the former federal prosecutor who was appointed in July to probe allegations Gov. Palin, Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s running mate, abused her office by abruptly ousting Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, state officials knowledgeable about her conversation with Branchflower said.
I posted this on the other thread, but will copy it here, as it’s quite relevant. Perhaps mclame’s comments comparing him to scarah will be just enough to get him over his Obama ennui. I’ve always thought Bill was a slimy dirtbag, but even he doesn’t deserve to be compared to scarah! Let the games begin!
(Pasting my other comment with link here:)
For everyone that was annoyed with Bill for being so wishy-washy about Obama and fulsome with praise for McCain, well, I have to agree with the comments that say that Bill is going to be angry about this (though of course it could have been seen from a mile away so was likely a passive-aggressive thing on Bill’s part, now he can smile inside but outwardly act outraged):

POLL GOODNESS!
Just now checked RCP latest:
National Gallup Tracking: Obama 49, McCain 43 Obama +6
National Rasmussen Tracking: Obama 51, McCain 45 Obama +6
National Hotline/FD Tracking: Obama 47, McCain 41 Obama +6
Florida PPP (D) McCain 46, Obama 49 Obama +3
National GW/Battleground Obama 48, McCain 46 Obama +2
Note that EVEN GW/Battleground has Obama up for the first time … J-mac better smeel the smoke coming from the hole in his foot.
I am copying my comment below from the bedtime thread because it is quite relevant here. Hopefully mclame’s interview comments will jolt Bill from his apparent state of Obama ennui. I always considered Bill a slimy icky guy, but even he doesn’t deserve to be compared to scarah…

Thanks again mudflats, I’ll vote for the Smart Guy. Palin not only lacks judgement, she seems terribly uniformed and ignorant about the world outside of Alaska. Her ability for critical thinking is in question as well.
How in the world do people not see McCain and Palin as MONSTERS!? They were not sent from God to do any good on this Earth. They seem to be sent from the Devil!
If Obama and Biden do not win the election, I really need to figure out how to move to Canada or the UK or Australia!

Like that’ll help, if the Bush Crash manages to take down the entire global financial system. Which is not out of the question.
Writing from my present position in South Korea: if McCain steals this one, I’m COMING HOME IMMEDIATELY and starting my own secessionist party.
No, on second thought, let’s just say it: REVOLUTION.
Given that most of the consistent blue states are the wealthiest in the nation and NET TAX DONORS, I think their leaving would get everyone’s attention, don’t you?
After six years abroad, who needs it? … To hell with that, I want MY country BACK!
Can she get some extra credit????
Thanks AKM. Another fine rendering of the facts… they speak VOLUMES!

I don’t know how Katie keeps from rolling her eyes during these interviews.
Brought over from last thread…
Hey, I am TOTALLY OK if McCain (permanently) suspends his campaign.. and just concedes to Obama!!
lol
This is fraud in CA,,, and I suspect in AK too, it can result in fines and JAIL TIME- my oh my- (from Kos)
“It seems that at least one independent witness in the Troopergate investigation has changed her tune once she was sworn under oath….
she admits to denying Trooper Wooten’s previously approved claim at the direct request of Sarah and Todd Palin… And of course, goon-husband Todd is right in the middle of it.”
Maybe that is one reason Todd wants to go home.. or that he has been MIA over the past few days… getting his affairs in order before the arrest… or heading out to the wilderness to hide…
McCain is such a chauvinist that he had to go with “Poor Little Sarah” to answer Katie Couric’s questions! She looked like she brought her Grandpa to the Principal’s office to face charges that she was being a “maverick” in high school! What an insult to women to choose somone so inept. There are so many qualified Republican women who could have been a real partner on the Republican ticket! That would have been a real challenge to the wonderful Obama/Biden ticket. However, now it seems that we just need to quietly watch the circus and shake our heads.
Reposting this from the Bedtime thread:
I think McCain thought his henchmen could make Troopergate go away, but not only has it not gone away, it’s getting longer legs by the day.
Notice that there is one glaring omission form the list of governors who became President. I wonder why?

DEUCE! I am so looking forward to the debate. I want to
watch Biden make her cry.
Bluefranco-Thanks for the link. I’m no lawyer but it looks like, after the testimony of the workingmen’s compensation witness, Sarah Palin might be looking at a lawsuit from her ex-brother-in-law seeking huge damages.
Dear AKM,
You are a gifted writer. I read newspapers and blogs across a spectrum of political thought on a daily basis. I always look forward to your perspective. I was originally drawn here because of your inside Alaska information, but I return because of your unique insights and your ability to connect the dots.
Thank you for the good work!
Thank you for making such a clear comparison between Clinton and Palin. I was appalled that it even came out of his mouth!. It’s like comparing apples and oranges , – no, it’s like comparing apples and recused fungibles.
Palin has no business running for VP of a bowling league. McCain knows it, else that little “either” wouldn’t have slipped itself into his statement.
And yes, she is a master of “say a lot of words but don’t answer the question”. She reminds me of that beauty queen on Youtube a few months back who rambled on about ppl not having enough maps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ0xySe0uRw
I watch this (below) regularly because it kills me, especially when she gets to the part (1:02) .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwo43sl7g8M&feature=related
I honestly don’t think Palin knows what she’s saying. The deer-in-the-headlights eyeballs seems to happen when she’s asked a question, then, a pile of words, that make little or no sense, fall out of her mouth. She leaves important words out, and most of it is off the top of her head BS.
How can McCain compare this brainless boob to Clinton? He’s either delusional, or in denial.
Nobody noticed gaffe #2 from the same little trip to buy a cheese steak:
grad student: “what about Waziristan? It’s blowing up!”
Palin: “Yeah, it is blowing up, and so is the economy there too!”
When in doubt, throw in the economy? Obviously, she has no idea that Waziristan is now hosting a very tall, very bad man with lots and lots of money.
I notice she once worked for the Frontiersman. Another blog, I’m so dazed I don’t remember which one, pointed out that the grad student, Michael Rovito, just happened to have the same name as a reporter for the Frontiersman, a Michael Rovito. This has gotten lost in the sauce. I googled him (dogpiled him, actually, it’s the only search engine with a cartoon dog) and there is a Michael Rovito who went to Temple. But isn’t this all a whole lot of coincidence? I wrote about this earlier, so sorry if I’m repeating, but Sarah worked for the same paper where a man with this same name worked?
I think the Macinsane Campaign was trying to have Sarah show off some pre-recorded faux-extempore “smarts” and she misfired on all sides.
Will McCain be attending the debate Thursday? Maybe the McCain camp has negotiated a chair on stage for him oversee the proceedings, and a stop watch to make sure no one talks longer than the two minutes stated in the pre-debate agreement.
LMAO….
Psst…..Sarah, thank you for shining the flashlight on the elephant in the room the rest of us are whispering about:
From Taegan Goddard Political Wire
“Palin’s Joke About Biden Backfires
On the campaign trail, Gov. Sarah Palin jokes about listening to Sen. Joe Biden’s speeches since she was in second grade. In a just-released CBS News segment, Katie Couric asks if that isn’t an odd thing to say given her own running mate’s age.”
smart respose by a reader in the comments section:
“If I were Joe Biden, I’d say to Gwen Ifill, “Listen, the American people have had plenty of time over the years to listen to me. I’m just going to step aside for a while and let you talk to Governor Palin for the entire ninety minutes…”
The name of the grad student from Temple U. is Michael Rovito. Just a regular citizen asking a vice presidential candidate a question — from 2 feet away!! Rumproast has the picture up.
This was not “gotcha journalism,” but a voter asking for information — should have been an easy moment for a qualified candidate. Palin & McCain had to on national television to clarify her answer? Unbelievable.
It seems like the purpose of JM being there with her may have been to take advantage of his reputation for sense.
Try this thought process on: She is clueless. He at least has a reputation for having a few. If he sits beside her and blathers, and she blathers (cause she can’t help it), a lot of their base will say — well she sounds as coherent as he does, and we know he’s coherent…so she must be, too.
Lowering expectations by erasing the contrast.
Sarah about Joe Biden….Here we go again. Thanks again to Katie Couric

Why did Governor Palin move universities so much? I’ve never seen that question answered, and I think it is important. Does anyone know?
Kathy (11:38:06) :
Pretty sure that it is in fact a coincidence that there are two Michael Rovitos. This was talked about on a thread last night. The one at Temple is listed as a PhD student on the university website. V. unlikely to be moonlighting as a reporter in Wasilla.
Deuce2 aka: AXE DIESEL
That was one of THE BEST videos I have seen someone needs to send that out all over
It is clear that McCain’s strategy during the debate ( or is that a tactic
) was to repeatedly try to paint Obama as inexperienced. To me, he came off as cranky and mean.
Too bad for him that the lady to his left doesn’t have a clue, doesn’t have a lifeline (priceless!! Tina Fey) and although I don’t doubt her intelligence, I am absolutely sure that her learning curve to become VP is steep and long — and most of all, dangerous in these times.
McCains extra credit was a stay in the Hanoi Hilton
Maybe McCains VP Choice should get her extra credit in the greybar hotel.
So what’s her job experience again? In her snotty response to Couric’s question about not having a passport, she said she said she always had two jobs up until the son was born.
Note to media: Pork queen Palin is an earmark expert, NOT energy expert
http://climateprogress.org/2008/09/03/note-to-media-pork-queen-palin-is-earmark-expert-not-energy-expert/
This is why they don’t talk with the media.
So, in defending her slam on Biden’s age, she basically says we need to decide if we want an old guy (Biden) who’s part of the DC establishment, or her, a young outsider with new ideas for change. Ooo! Ooo! I pick the young, fresh new ideas! Wait a sec…that sounds familiar… Is there another matchup between an old washed up guy and a young guy pushing for change? I’m confused, Barbie.
I honestly think this is the winner (so far) for this week’s Palin Ironic Rambling trophy.

Check this out on CNN:
You CAN see Russia from here!
http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/30/you-can-see-russia-from-here/
by Gary Tuchman, CNN AC360 Correspondent
It’s THE island in Alaska, Little Diomede, where one can see Russia if one looks
because it is only about 2 miles away, so CNN sent someone there to check out that claim. But Palin hasn’t ever been there……;)
“As a matter of fact, no Alaska governor in the state’s nearly 50 year history has ever visited the remote outpost that still has little running water.”
CNN wanted to know what the residents’ opinons were of Palin and her foreign policy experience claim due to the proximity of Russia to their island. Well, apparently, many of them have never heard of her. However the mayor had:
“The island’s mayor has heard of her though. No American mayor resides in a city
closer to Russia then Andrew Milligrock, and he says being two miles from
Russia doesn’t give him any foreign policy expertise.”
A story on the island will be on the CNN program AC360 tonight.
Loved this comment left by poster Jim W. at the bottom of the Little Diomede story:
“I can see the moon from my house. I have space traveller experience!”
A tshirt with that on it would be great! Or a toy airplane with a Putin pop up head.
The guys at Jibjab could have a field day with this. Plus Muthee witch hunting.

That was probably actually Willow, the next younger daughter. She and Bristol look amazingly alike, although Willow is somewhat shorter (as well as 3 or 4 years younger).
It was an embarassment to see Katie directly question Palin, and have McCain interrupt to defend her.
Once again, McCain would have been better off to let Palin be Palin as his advisors keep telling him. I don’t think she would be convincing as a VP candidate, but I sure think she would at least appear to have a brain and an opinion of her own.
LOL!!! This is too much. Palin vs Clinton? I can’t even comment. LOL!!!! This election cycle is going to kill me!!!!!
Could someone, anyone, please find out why she went to four or five colleges in six years to get a four year degree?? Seriously, does she have a learning disability? No offense to those who do, I just really want to know. I mean, yesterday McCain compared her to a well known freakin’ RHODES SCHOLAR. So what’s her story? Did she get kicked out of each school?

AKM – Great work!
Thanks for the transcript because I was focussed on the visuals and really missed hearing the torturous sentences and lies (M Rovito wasn’t shouting across a room, he was next to SP).
Since I was focussed on the visuals: imagine an Admissions Office.
Interviewer – Couric
Prospective Student – Dubya
Parent – Barb.
Place? Harvard Business School.
And hey! I can see a city of 4.2 million from my house – can I be President?
Did I miss something. He lists the reasons he is proud of having SP on his ticket because:
1. she brings excitement to the ticket and campaign.
2. uh, I’m missing something. Does he give anymore reasons? something about ethics? experience? wisdom? He makes her sound like a really good cheerleader, and nothing else. (to all you cheerleaders, it’s an honorable skill; I’m just suggesting it’s not sufficient for VPOTUS)
DERECK ROCK CRANE:
It could very well happen! I am not worried about money so much as I am worried about the HORRIBLE way that McCain and Palin think! Anti-abortion, Anti-gay, Anti-ANYTHING THAT IS NOT THEM! At least Canada and the UK and Australia still believe in HUMANS!
It must be said that many people in my family and their friends have millions of dollars. I bring this up because my family are ALL voting Obama/Biden. BUT, some of our friends, who do not LIKE McCain/Palin are voting for them! They want the TAX BREAKS! Their logic is that if anything happens and their kids are in danger, “they are lucky cause they can send their kids to Europe until it is over.” MORONS! MORONS! And some of them are Jewish!?!?! Do they remember what happened in Europe to Jews during the Holocaust? McCain and Palin are VERY similar to Hitler in my opinion: if you do not think like them or want them say thing as them, then you can be outcasted and thrown to the ground. MORONS! MORONS! MORONS! MORONS!!!!
OVERALL, I JUST DO NOT GET IT!
SCARY – NY and CA have some of the highest taxes in the nation and we pay for all of these Republifart middle state’s crap while they sit back and UGH – who knows what they do, but they do not do anything right!
I notice that when a question is being asked, Sarah has a certain look on her face-ooh I know that one-and she starts to answer before the question is finish. She is trying to show she knows the answer.
These recent interviews are showing not only how unprepared she is to be the Vice-President of the United States, but how poorly she’ll perform under pressure.
I really do think she switched colleges our of pure comfort level. Rather than rise up to diversity she ran away. The difference between Palin and every other newbie to the VP or P office is most had a rudimentary knowledge at least of foreign policy, economics, civics. I don’t think Palin could pass a test in Political Science 101. It’s like learning to swim by jumping into shark infested waters.
Heads up – there is an e mail “INTERVIEW’ with SP in her local paper the Mat_Su Valley Frontiersman on their website.
I saw that segment yesterday with gaping mouth. What idiots. When Sarah announced that she was just answering a guy who blurted out a question about Pakistan from some yards away, I was thinking “This doesn’t mean that you have to blurt out some stupid answer over the crowd, does it?” This had nothing to do with gotcha journalism. Apparently, she can’t even give a straight or accurate answer to an ordinary citizen much less the media. And why would they be surprised that the media are watching? After all, they ARE running for the highest offices in the country. These two are going to be laughing stocks for years to come.
@Regi (12:47:11) :
How can Sarah Palin advocate for education as vice-president or maybe president, when education isn’t even a priority for her husband(Did he finish high school? I don’t think so.)or her children, or the soon-to-be husband of her daughter? Come on, there is a very serious parental and leadership flaw in not promoting education to children.
Can you see her with the veto pen, “heck, Todd didn’t finish high school and look at him, he won the iron man and married governor. We could use this money for hockey rinks and roads and bridges.”
NO NO NO Palin.
NoCalGal @ 11:19:
Maybe that is one reason Todd wants to go home.. or that he has been MIA over the past few days… getting his affairs in order before the arrest… or heading out to the wilderness to hide…

I was wondering that myself the last few days – where has Todd been ? The other daughter (Willow ?) has been on stage with SP. Doesn’t she have to be in school ? Isn’t she like 13 or 14 ? Or is she home-schooled by Sarah and Todd ? (Boy, does that drum up some ugly images !)
Did else notice that in their joint appearance yesterday McCain and Palin were followed around by Bristol Palin? No where in sight were the First Dude or Cindy, just Bristol. I wonder why that is?
When candidates believe that voters are playing “gotcha” then we’ve reached a new low in politics. Hello, McCain? You represent us and not the other way around?
My husband is to the point now that he doesn’t want SP to drop out because it’s helping Obama so much in the polls. Let the Republicans keep her and watch them crash and burn.
katiebegood: Wasn’t that Willow Palin, not Bristol?
Keep up the great work on reporting Troopergate and Palin. I’ve been referring people to this blog b/c most Americans seem to be under the misguided belief that all Alasakans love her. Polls, as other commenters mentioned, show otherwise.
The interview was agony to watch, given the thought of Palin as anywhere near the White House.
Here in WA there’s great interest in her, but little confidence. I wonder what the numbers will look like after Thursday’s debate.
There’s absolute pain on johnny’s mug when scarah interupted, and with a really stooopid overconfident answer. (su-prise, su-prise!)
and they way that she spoke about the voter that asked the question with such contempt! “hollerin’ questions…. ” OMG, what can ya say?
anyway, I’ve been MIA or grabbing lurks for the last week, campaigning in VA and just finished up a stack of postcards. Some amazing experiences. HUGE shout-out to the poster of that campaign here, and if anyone hasn’t seen it, please send postcards.

Sorry if this is a repost but it’s a good video from ADN showing Palin’s lies, lies, and more lies about the Troopergate investigation:

McCain’s behavior eerily recalling the Stalin-era “minders” meant to keep non-diplomats from saying the wrong thing.
When I saw a snipped piece of the joint interview on the Daily Show, I think, with McCain favorably comparing Sarah’s experience, to Clinton’s “as governor of Arkansas,” I was pissed.
This blog has compared the experience of the two quite well. “Next to none,” vs. “Loaded.”
A couple of weeks ago, an ex-mayor friend in Alaska sent me a similar piece of nonsense, comparing Palin to Teddy Roosevelt. “Two years as governor.” “Lots of kids,” etc. Only “puts on underwear one leg at a time” seemed to be missing.
Roosevelt was the Police Commissioner who cleaned up the filthy NYPD. He was a war hero who won the Medal of Honor. He was governor of NY at a time when ten times as many people lived in NYC as now live in Alaska. He was the quintessential world traveler. He read a book a day and wrote 35 of his own. After becoming president, he broke up the Rockefeller oil trusts, initiated food and drug safety regulations, won a Nobel Prize for negotiating the treaty that ended the Russo-Japanese war, negotiated the end of the coal strike of 1902, etc., etc. Shamefully denied the “R” nomination in 1912 he invented a party, got it qualified in about half the states and gave Wilson a hell of a run for his money, finishing way ahead of Taft with Debs bringing up the rear.
Sarah was the problematic mayor of a small town in which I lived. She damn near got recalled in her first year in office thanks to her imperiousness and spending habits. She took VECO money, over 10% of her Lt. Gov. campaign contributions in 2002, splitting the fundamentalist vote with the eventual winner, Loren Leman. She got 21% in that primary. She won 51% of the vote against a disgraced incumbent governor in 2006. She took the governor’s seat with a plurality, winning by only 6 points, despite the Democrats being outnumbered by “R” registrants by about 3:5, and despite a huge GOTV by the fundy churches. I watched the debate from “Gavel-to-Gavel” just a few days ago. Up against two extremely bright and experienced policy wonks, she rigorously avoided specifics. She did once again support the “Bridge to Nowhere” though, just days before the general election. It’s 90 minutes, linked at http://www.andyhalcro.com
She dropped in and out of at least four second and third rate colleges in three states in six years before getting a degree. I’d bet she was a “C” student in a lightweight program, but no one seems to have checked. I am quite familiar with the community college she attended in the middle of that walkabout. She is a mediocre intellect, dishonest, the epitome of opacity rather than transparent, a perfect picture of “do what I say, not what I do.” She is said to be homophobic and racist. I’m not sure she’s ever read any book besides the Bible. She may well be impeached for Troopergate, as with Watergate and Monicagate, it not being the crime, but the cover-up. A workers comp and contract fix is rearing its ugly head.
For McCain to indulge in this sort of shameful “comparison” with Bill Clinton is nothing short of mendacious.
McCain’t said “Governor Palin and I both agree, you don’t announce that you’re going to attack another country.” Didn’t bush tell Iraq that we were going attack and when we were going to attack?

I’m so giddy with excitement …waiting for Thursday’s debate….hope Biden tears her a new ice hole..
Please someone help me with this. If indeed SP has been listening to Biden speeches since she was in “like, second grade”, should she not not have a somewhat firmer grasp on foreign affairs??
Who was it that said, “Keep your words soft and tender because tomorrow you may have to eat them.”?
Oh to be a fly on Biden’s podium come Thursday nite.
Palin’s hometown paper has an “e-mail interview”. It’s mindboggling that they would even consider this journalism. True to form, she doesn’t actually answer most of the questions. However, the answers are so badly written, that they may actually have been hers! Either that, or a GOP intern used the Palin interview answer generator.

Just imagine…..
If McCain called Cindy what he is widely reported to have called her…and that particular four letter epithet has been universally substantiated… can you just guess ( I cannot!) what he has to say about SWWNBN?
He never had to “babysit” Cindy–her drug problems were hers to deal with–but at this advanced age, John finds himself in position of babysitting SWWNBN.
Good heavens!
hope Biden tears her a new ice hole….Oh My,that was perfect
Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! You have just cleared up an existential dilemma for this slacker (me.)
I too, have no degree, have bounced around colleges since 1974, and have not accomplished much.
Sometimes I wallow in despair.
But now I have hope! I’m going to move to Alaska! I’m going to be the freakin’ governor! I have the qualifications!
Finally, a purpose in life! Then, maybe, if I can find a role-model to be president … hey, didn’t that George Bush’s kid do it? Oh, the possibilities are endless.
And they said the American Dream was dead!
