The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

I Forgive the New Yorker.

OK…I was really peeved at the New Yorker after that horrible cover of Barack and Michelle Obama doing the “terrorist fist bump” by the warmth of a burning flag, and a portrait of Osama bin Laden. This was supposed to be how “uneducated people” felt about Obama…you know…satire…hahaha.

When you have to tell people it’s supposed to be funny, it isn’t.

I’ve been harboring a grudge since July.

Then, a few weeks ago, they linked to Mudflats. That softened me up a little, I admit.

Now, I’m calling it even. It feels good to forgive.

Wow. I didn’t realize that Sarah Palin was so nearsighted. She needs binoculars to see Russia from her house?

Now scsrah can’t name one magazine or newspaper she reads.

COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this — to stay informed and to understand the world?

PALIN: I’ve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media —

COURIC: But what ones specifically? I’m curious.

PALIN: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.

COURIC: Can you name any of them?

PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news.

The New Yorker has been out in front and out there alone since the beginning of the Bush years, imo.

Okay – apologies – I know this is off topic but can’t help myself – this is part of the transcript from this evening’s Katie and Sarah interview:

COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read, before you were tapped for this, to stay informed and to understand the world?

PALIN: I’ve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press for the media, I mean…

COURIC: Like what ones specifically? I’m curious that you…

PALIN: Um, all of ‘em, any of ‘em that um have been in front of me over all these years, um…

COURIC: Can you name any of them?

PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn’t a foreign country where it’s kind of suggested it seems like, wow how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, DC may be thinking and doing, when you live up there in Alaska. Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.”

    Good grief!

Tonight on CNN Lou Dobbs talked to Congressman DeFazio from Oregon. DeFazio has a plan to solve the financial crisis that will cost the taxpayers NOTHING. Furthermore, this plan has been used before–successfully. Instead of rushing in a panic, and passing a bad bailout bill, I would rather see Congress pass legislation that will actually work AND will not cost the taxpayers anything. Please contact your Senators to tell them to vote NO on the current bailout plan, and ask them to contact DeFaZio to help him promote his plan.

Hey ya Bert in Bangor and AKMer’s..I guess off topic too, not sure…

Just saw the latest Couric snippet with appalling Palin. But then I wondered…?
Is this a an act…she isn’t where she is today because she’s stupid.
Well then I thought of the Karate Kid and the ‘wounded peligan’ maneuver? Well my advise to Joe Biden is to watch that movie before Thursday…just in case.
Now you guys know her better than we do in the lower 48 but I wouldn’t put anything past Rove and her handlers to try anything. Pass the on to Joe will ya, so I can sleep tonight.

Love this new website AKM! It has seriously cut into my ability to focus on my job lately, but loving every morsel of it!

Been having access trouble too. Maybe this will post now :o )

It seems just unbelievable that Palin couldn’t come up with a single name. Could it be that she was drilled not to name names because it might show her as leaning this way or that? Anything? I mean, the woman goes to the doctor and sees the titles of magazines in the waiting room “just like us”, right? And there are newspapers with names on them at the gas station or bait shop in Wasilla? Has she never clipped articles about herself and proudly noted which paper they came from?

Please. Nightly News. Good Morning America. Oprah Magazine? PLAYBOY?? ANYTHING???
