Welcome! You made it to the new Mudflats! It should look pretty familiar.
This new site will provide more versatility for me, and some nice new features for you!
I’d also like to encourage everyone again to keep the blog comments on topic, as I think it promotes some very lively and interesting conversations, and our wonderful “lurkers” and new Mudflatters seem to chime in more frequently. And don’t forget, the Night Kitchen Open Thread is always there for sudden epiphanies, impromptu conversations, and off-topic flashes of brilliance!
I’m thrilled that so many of you are finding your way around the Mudflats Forum. I, too, am learning more each day about all that is available over there in the room next door!
And all the old posts and comments are saved at the old site if you ever need them for reference.
So, settle in, make yourself comfortable, and welcome to the new digs!

Yeah! This is nice! Pull up a chair ’round the campfire, I’ve got the thermos and cups. Cocoa and schnapps for all.
Yum! And I forgot to say, the happy creatures are back for the weekend! Your regularly scheduled avatars will return on Monday.
Anybody bring marshmallows?
hey! This looks just the same! You didn’t even paint the walls! Wait – somebody’s got cocoa and schnapps yummm ok I’m in!
shh – secret recipe revealed for my favourite got-snowed-in-can’t-work-today drink:
Reindeer’s Breath
1 cup good coffee
1 heaping tablespoon dark cocoa
A healthy splash of Baileys Irish Cream
A healthy splash Peppermint Schnapps
Top the lot with thickened cream, dash of green Creme De Menthe
Stir with peppermint candy cane
ooooo I miss the snow!
Hi, it all looks rather familiar. Thank heaven.
I´ve bookmarked it immediately.
Have a great day!
Hey, what happened to the snow? It was snowing recently at the old site. Nice touch. I hope this place continues to flourish. (Mostly lurking and reading from New York City.)
Whew! I thought I was gonna get stuck in a snowdrift on the way over here! *stamping feet*
Is the coffee on? OzMud, can I get a splash of your Bailey’s to go with it? I brought the Sambuca and whipped cream…one Grirish Coffee, comin’ up!
I cup fresh-brewed quality coffee
Generous splash of Bailey’s Irish Cream
Generous splash of Sambuca
Dolop of whipped cream
One Maraschino cherry, optional for garnish (good to let it fall to the bottom of the glass and let soak until you get to the bottom of the glass…yummy treat!)
Wow, it looks the same. That’s a comfort. We can already feel at home and settled in. Cocoa sounds good, but so does some Trader Joe’s Spiced Cider with some Capt. Morgan’s Spiced Rum. I think I have enough to share.
Hi Pat!
Ooo…I almost bought sme of that Trader Joe’s Cider the other day…
Wait a minute…what are you doing up so late!
Perfect ! A home from home! I’ll take me some coffee with Bailey’s please!
Okay, everything looks the same, except it stopped snowing.
AKM, are you sure you didn’t pull a fast one on us?
Maybe… driving around in one big circle?
hehehe!
Frank, LI NY.
Nice digs – I love the critters!
WELCOME to you new home!!!
OK, I’m just writing to see my avatar. Snowing here and blowing like crazy – good day for Dallas to play at the Steelers!!
I am like Grammy in PA, dying to see what avatar I will get… I do so love the critters…
Me, too, Grammy in PA and seachele99, can’t wait to see my avatar.
Painless move, AKM, Thanks!
Oooh, that looks just like how I felt yesterday!
Nice, new digs.
The snow was fun on the screen! I like our new digs!
Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble (05:37:58) :
EEK, my avatar is too close to the real thing, hahahaha!
Ohhhh, I like the edit feature -
Good morning! Nice to see everyone here at the new place! Love the avatars!
Oh, dear! Bugs! What happened to the quilts/snowflakes?
TheraP (06:09:45) :
Your regularly scheduled avatars will return on Monday.
You are lucky to get a nice little bug as opposed to whatever it is that I have; definitely not representative of a warm and fuzzy Grammy!
Hey, I’m now a paying customer!!!! AKM, you are the cream in my morning coffee and the butter on my evening popcorn! I thought, by now, I should contribute something to your wonderful work.
Why, thank you! AKM
Has anyone tried the edit function? I’ve tried and I get a screen that is really dark . . .
Just checking to see what my “happy creature” will be!
Besides, we got plenty of snowflakes here in central NY!
The new/old flats is on my favs list~~wouldn’t do to get lost on my morning/evening journies. My Baileys’ is alllllllll gone but I do have some Grand Marnier that I would be willing to share for the coffee. Will warm ya right up.
Oohh! I’m still “green” – goody.
But is the time stamp off? My computer clock reads 10:02 (6:02 Alaska time)
There is a lotta talk this morning about Bailey’s Irish Cream. I just posted a great homemade recipe for it on the Cooking Club Forum. It’s a nice project for a snowy Sunday afternoon.
Wow…now I have to learn a whole bunch of new stuff. (that’s ok- helps grow brain cells) I had to register my name again- did that happen to the rest of you?
BTW- Happy Birthday to me!
What’s with the edit box- and the time limit? Yikes! I need a manual…actually, I need the Baileys. Headed to the kitchen…
I really like the moving van…
Grammy in PA (06:15:08)
I’ve tried the edit function twice on my last post, and it went into the black hole of the internet…
I really need a manual and a learner’s permit-
Oh wait; my edit to my own post (7:02:12) showed up- I guess it takes the full time on the edit clock.
Just trying to post, I made it!!
It’s snowy here in CT, too…. did someone say Irish coffee? AKM, welcome to your new home!
Okay, I made the trip over, but I miss the snowflakes too! Have my scalloped potatoes in the oven and will be leaving in a few hours for the So Cal Mudstock! Back later.
Now, that’s my kind of moving day, I always hated moving, but this was just so easy and painless, and what a wonderful welcome. I’ll have some hot chocolate, thanks. Oh, along with the move, I’ve changed from GJ in ID to my usual online handle.

Aw, I’m not a bug OR crustacean! What am I?

PS: That black hole thing is kind of strange, it will take some time getting use to, but I bet I will like it if it didn’t take so long.
can’t resist seeing what creature I am here!
Just testing if my Gravatar will show now and an offer of getting the Christmas Pudding ready. Is only a few years old and will only take a few hours to prepare. We´ve got all the time, don´t we.
Ta
can’t resist seeing what creature I am here!
(added in edit mode) I love it! Billy goat with lipstick????
Maybe I just don’t understand the edit feature, it felt like a 5 min time out for making a mistake, then a re-post…. is that black out stage normal?
A new home! Hope this post goes through.
It worked and evidently I am a pot head! LOL
Good morning! After seeing the new critters I just had to see mine, too! Is it too early for Spiced Rum? It’s RAINING in Juneau and time for rum – oops, coffee.
Wow, this neighborhood is going to be a lot cleaner without all the typos hanging around in gangs. You just got to be quick to run them off as soon as you see one!
The timer kind of gets your heart going. I don’t know why – it just does! Happy Birthday CO Almost Native!
Nice Diggs, AKM…….Same folks, same BSers, just a different room.
NICE………………..
Deuce
Hey, Miz Bella what part of NYS are you in – I’m central So. Tier and we just have lousy cold wind – keep your snow flakes, please.
AKM – can’t we keep the new avatars? – love everything that you have done from Sept. until now. Can’t imagine how badly we would have suffered in that time period if we hadn’t had your humor and sanity to keep us hopeful. Many, many thanks.
Wow! Brian & Buf (the dog) Everyone’s here! Got reregistered on my yahoo home page!
Get Firefox at the bottom, nice touch!
Hey Mudflatters-
I’ve still been dropping in almost everyday (lurking) to check on what’s happening. Have been finishing up a class I was taking, so didn’t have much time to stay and chat. Now that my class is over, I can drop in and actually participate. Love the new digs, AKM…and always good to see everyone!
Will be back after I’ve done some work around the house today!
oh and Happy Bday CoNative (confused by dates here, was that today or yesterday???)
Just checkin’ in to see that all the pups arrived! Can I just throw my coat anywhere until the coatrack is unpacked?
Just have to see my avatar on my 50th… and happy birthday to CO Almost Native, too!
For my birthday, I’m watching PE Obama on Meet the Press. Wish the inauguration were tomorrow.
Thank you, AKM, for providing such a warm, supportive meeting place for all of us!
I’ve got lots of new. yummy, warm drinks to celebrate with. Cheers!
Peaceful Granny– I really like your new avatar and ‘handle’
No snow? (I know, stop whining)
Jes’ checking in. See y’alls later.
*looks around*
Niiiiice.
Let’s hope everything turns out better than the LAST time we tried to move into a new house. I’m sure it will.
Peace, out
And Happy Birthday to Sagittarians CO and PDX (50 is the new 39)!
Weren’t we here once before?
Do I remember something about being able to edit the comments?
OK…we can….COOL!
(Nothing like editing under a time line!!!)
wow! what a smooth move. i love this blog and appreciate the people who write in.a.k.m. has a light touch with thoughts and words.there is a kindness that attracts even the shyest person to join in. just a little. my children can’t believe that ‘mom ‘is chatting away with folks she has never met but who i refer to as ‘my fellow mud-puppies.’ …b

Got the munchies? I think I’m a mad Viking!
And Happy Birthday to y’all, CO and PDX, and to my friend, DE.
Nice….AKM! Happy Birthday CO Native! Everyone is special isn’t it?
Hopefully, there will be few – if any – bugs to work out over here!
New Mudflats !
What No Snow !?
Maybe there’s a setting for the old site for more accumulation.
“Old sites never die, they just get snow bound.” or something…
We had snow in NYC -
here’s something to warm you up.
Its called a café’ Tolino
roughly equal parts of Brandy , triple sec and Orange Cirsao (sp?)
(Optional show/presentation- ignite in a metal bowl)
Douse with coffee. Serve hot in espresso cups with a dab of ice cream.
Good for cold winters …
Yay! Hello all… just back from a day in the snow at around -15-20 degrees C. could somebody hand me a mug of DrChill’s coffee drink? I might drink it or soak my feet in it…
PS: There’s an Alaskan on the US biathlon team – been watching them compete at a World Cup today!
We could use some of that snow out west. Could you send some our way, please? Time to put on a fresh pot of coffee to go with all the schnapps, Bailey’s, curacao (I think that might be close…) and spice rum. And don’t forget the whipped cream. Should all go well with the confetti birthday cake with the 5-0 candles. And yes, the new 39 works for me! Thanks for that, wired!
Can one post without the 5 minute timeout in the corner?

……The timer is just for EDITING i.e. to remove things that looked OK in the submit window….but not so great once posted.
So…”bad grammar has went”…but you can’t change the whole post! (If it’s a long one.)
What a cozy place! Loved the coffee and cider recipes. I have a bottle of Vermeer Dutch chocolate cream liquor – would that work? Hmmm, better not, I got that to give as a gift!!!
(*lookin’ for a mug-refill…*)

I found the snow to be very distracting and thought it made it hard to read the blog.
On the other hand, it’s nice to see that this site doesn’t look like it changed.
Here’s a hint for those who care about spelling in blog posts. Use Mozilla Firefox as your browser. When you make a spelling mistake, there is a red underline under the word and all you have to do is right click on the misspelled word and choose the right word. I noticed the other day when I was using Explorer at work that this feature is not available in Explorer.
Big Pete: Thanks! I am technologically challenged…
happy birthday pdx and CO..
bubbles…yes it is a good place for newbies….very good people here..i don’t know how I would have made it before the election with out all of the people here….thanks every one for being who you are!!!!!
Still hoping that one day there will be an actual Preview button…
I checked by loading the comments page with a different computer, and found that one’s comment—with whatever typos or HTML mistakes one has committed—is visible to all during the five-minute timeout.
Also, one’s edit has to be completed during the five minutes, or it just vanishes.
Even so, the new site is definitely an improvement; hope it’s up to the load once we all move here.
@SoCalWolfGal (07:11:16) :
Aw, so there actually are going to be scalloped potatoes at the Mudstock? ;( Darn, now I wish I really could fly down there quickly! Oh well…
Happy Birthday to all our Birthday Mudpuppies today!
And yes, this new home is very much like (in fact prob. exactly like) the “new” house we tried to move to a while ago. Let’s just hope we don’t get bogged down in the moving boxes this time!
Congrats on the move (and Martha, I think it may be slightly too early for the rum, but it’s after noon somewhere, so maybe we’re covered!).

Oops, sorry for the double post. The new system is acting up…
Hi, everyone. I just stopped by to have a look around. As usual, the hospitality is great, and it’s nice to see so many new faces. So, I’ll just make myself at home.
Hi Everyone,
I am a self professed, but paying, lurker…most times I am behind the scenes giggling and enjoying the exchanges. I have switched, landed and will continue to enjoy this wonderful site.
Hi there, just checking out the new site. Congrats on the move, AKM. Lokks just like home.
Can we hang on to the critters?
Grammy in PA, you made my day! Yes, I want my quilt piece/snowflake back! Please … no bugs! Thank you very much!
Ok, I have to see what my bug looks like.
Scalloped potatoes are the ultimate comfort food. We always have it with ham in it. Tomato soup is great comfort food too.
I don’t like my bug. It hovers. I like my snowflake better.
Abominable snowmen avatars?
Just checking.
Do I get a little guy too? Yes. Cute.
I made it here, and got it bookmarked!
Nice….and here’s some Bailey’s to share!
cute critters….and I see an edit button, with a time limit.
Is that new…to help with my typos?
Quick report from SoCal Mudstock, as long as we’re talking food and drink: the scalloped potatoes were delish! Thanks SoCalWolfGal!
One suggestion: reroute the link in the upper-right of the forum so that it directs readers to the new blog as opposed to the original blog.
One other suggestion: if people fill in their website, i.e, blog, enable the link as the original mudflats allowed. That way, if people want to read someone else’s blog (as I often do) then all they need do is clink on the person’s user name. I’ve visited a number of mudflatter blogs by doing so.
YAHHHHHH! Glad to see the Muddies back with a new site. Yup, looks a lot like the old one but with more stuff. More stuff is always good, especially when it does not involve charges to my CC’s! ;’ )
