Palin Apologizes. And She Doesn’t.
Never one to pass up the opportunity for national media attention, Sarah Palin called in to smitten Greta Van Susteren of Fox News, to talk about the arson committed at the Wasilla church she attends.
“I’ll leave it to the pastor to speak to,” Palin says in the FOX interview. “I apologized to the assistant pastor letting him know that if there’s anything that I’ve done to draw negative attention to the church.”
This was a dangerous fire, she notes.
She apologized to the pastor just in case anything that she said during her campaign had brought negative attention to the church. Just in case something she might have said, had stirred up some crazy person with that much hatred. Just on the off chance that some whacko got all riled up and did something violent. Her apology was also noted in the Anchorage Daily News.
Her spokesman issued a statement saying Palin told an assistant pastor she was sorry if the fire was connected to the “undeserved negative attention” the church received after she became the vice presidential candidate on Aug. 29.
Now, mind you, she doesn’t know for sure that it was anything she said. But, she decided to apologize in CASE she had anything to do with it.
Now that we’ve clarified this, let’s revisit a moment from the campaign past…(everything goes all blurry and wavy, and my voice faaades away into some harp music)…. The date is November 10, 2008, one long month ago.
Sarah Palin’s attacks on Barack Obama’s patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign. The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling “terrorist” and “kill him” until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.
But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.
The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin’s attacks.
Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: “Why would they try to make people hate us?”
So, here’s a situation where she KNOWS her behavior had a direct, causal relationship with death threats to the now future president. People threatened to assassinate Barack Obama because of Sarah Palin, and this information comes directly from the Secret Service. It’s not a question of IF she said something. She did. It’s not a question of “gee, just on the off chance I said anything I shouldn’t have”. She DID say something, and it DID cause bad things to happen.

I was just wondering if she is sitting the stage to be able to rename that church to “the Sarah Palin House of God” and give them a nice little “rebuilding fund” for their good works.
The other thing that gets me is that as much as she enjoys staying in the limelight, why is that she can’t do something, anything this season that shows that she has some love for the people she serves. I mean there are so many opportunities to have her picture taken putting a few dollars in a Salvation Army bucket, or handing out a few toys in the childrens ward at hospital or a lap robe at a Senior center or Veterans Home. Even signing an emergency winterizing bill, or would that just be to taxing on her overworked self?

Sarah the Grifter will try to steal the spotlight regarding a negative event like the church fire, yet it has not occurred to her to make a statement (even if she were just faking it, for media attention) about how her incendiary words might well have promoted hatred (a crime in Canada, thankfully) toward the Obama family.
This made me think of a comment you made on the Secret Shopper post:

What is amazing to me is that no one has determined who started the fire or if the fire was truly arson. There is no complete investigation and she is throwing blame around on national TV! This is so sick. For all anyone knows it could be a disgruntled former member of the church.

I never watch Fox news, but I was channel surfing & there they were, I just couldn’t resist…….it sounded just like a bad Hollywood script the “smitten Greta” feed the lovely Sarah the lines & she answered with earnest concern. I’m getting impatient….when are some of these gates going to break loose? Looks like IIinois will be able to rid themselves of Gov Blog soon, but Sarah just won’t go away, she just has too much corrupt protection surrounding her.

It is my understanding the arson investigation is ongoing- I assume there is an AK team, but maybe they brought in federal investigators. It can take weeks to determine a point of origin, the accelerant, and map the fire’s path. The arson investigators will comb through everything, looking for clues- you won’t hear preliminary reports, unless they find strong evidence that points to someone or a group of someones: fingerprints on a gas can, footprints that can definitely be pinned to the time of the fire, that sort of thing.

Grammy, that one took me a bit too. I saw that white space, and crickets, and then realized it stood for the apology that she never said – all that came from Sarah Palin about the hate she intentionally stirred and fostered towards Obama was silence; hence, the white space and the sound of crickets.

I really wish that someone would point out to Palin that just saying all that about having a servant’s heart in public office isn’t enough. To be believable the public official has to actually do some serving. And so far, we don’t see her doing much of that – is she actually doing any work for the state of Alaska?
We’re having quite a long cold spell in the Seattle area (we normally have very mild winters, so anything that’s in the 20s is a shock), so I can only imagine how hard it is this winter for Alaskans trying to stay warm. Shouldn’t SP be spending her time helping people find affordable ways of heating their homes instead of chatting it up with Greta? Well, that would make sense to most of us, anyway.
In one of the links I did come across a comment, I think from SP’s father, that she was a real hands-on mom. Um, yeah, OK – so we certainly didn’t see any of THAT during the campaign, or the subsequent interviews at her home. It seemed to me that she very easily passed her children off to others (especially each other – I suspect they are raising themselves) – and that isn’t something that a hands-on mom would find easy to do.
My hubby is convinced that I am wasting my time keeping up with Palin’s latest attempts to stay in the limelight, because he says that once Obama is actually in office people will say – “Sarah who?” Well, I’m afraid that he is terribly naive, but we can hope that he is right, can’t we? Wouldn’t that be nice – that she would just fade away and we wouldn’t have to hear those puzzle sentences that defy understanding.

So watching . . . and just who is it that is watching. Sarah? A few others? All of us? It’s so easy to include a subject in a sentence, but she never does. Maybe that’s intentional; she says something without a subject, we fill in the blank, then she can later contradict our interpretation saying that wasn’t what she said – and of course, she’s right – she didn’t say it at all.
Except all that hate speech in October. She can’t get out of that one. We all heard it, and there are all sorts of videos to prove exactly what she said.
Oh, please, Alaska – do something with her so she can’t do any more harm. How long does it take to impeach a governor in Alaska? And what ground do you have to have?

Re: “Servant’s Heart”:
For those who might not know, “servant’s heart” is Evangelical dogwhistle code. She made a few more dogwhistles (that I could tell) in the Greta Crushgirl interview, especially while talking about the WBC being “welcoming” and “not-intolerant” of the gays, at least the ones who “want help”, help being yet more dogwhistle.
Remember that “Thank you Sarah Palin” video put out by that whacko christian group? They thanked her specifically for having a “servant’s heart”. I wish there were some Evangelical version of Urban Dictionary to point one to definitions of these things, but “servant’s heart” is taken from Matthew 23:11-12
11- But the greatest among you shall be your servant.
12- Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
So it’s one of those circular logic things they apply to SP — she’s being exalted and is a leader (e.g. governor, VP nom), therefore she must be a humble person and a servant. I know, it’s ironic as hell but logic has never been the forte of modern Evangelicalism in the US.
They also have this bit called “servant leadership”, which of course is an oxymoron. It works really well for people who are narcissists and users, because those who believe in such things are looking to the SP’s of the world to “lead” them.
In fact, she applies the term to herself right after the nom, and the hayseeds ate it right up. Yeah, that NCR article is interesting because it’s one of the few that acknowledges that she never really comes out and states what she believes. How bout Mudflats finds a way to donate some money to that church to get it rebuilt? Or so they can have an alternative meeting location for Christmas services. THAT WOULD SPEAK VOLUMES ABOUT THE ‘MEDIA ATTENTION’ SP has gotten. You want to speak for all Alaskans? Then speak up with your $$$ and national influence you have.
Somehow I expected this blog, as a news and commentary on Alaskan affairs, to condemn the looney toon arsonist(s) who set a church on fire in your state while people were in the building. Either you’re driven by love for the people and state of Alaska or by hatred for its chief executive. Please speak up and show those of us Independents that used your coverage and commentary as a compass for how to vote in November your true motivations.
I absolutely condemn arson, and an obvious attempt to harm people. As a matter of fact, when I watched Sarah Palin’s interview on FOX, I was rather startled that Palin talked for quite a while about the potential political motivation, the damage to the building, how much it cost, the fact that the building was new, and never mentioned that there were people in the building until Greta Van Susteren asked.
They have been using the middle school to hold services, so I don’t think that is an issue. Donations are pouring in from all over the country and I’m sure that they will have no problem rebuilding. Sarah Palin herself said that in the interview.
I, myself plan to give to Kids Kitchen, which I talked about in another post. They feed hungry children in Anchorage, who otherwise wouldn’t be fed.
And, I don’t claim to, nor want to speak for all Alaskans. Just for me.

Even the local police say it is VERY unusual to have an arson comitted so early in the evening. My guess is some local kids got stoned or drunk or were on the famous Wasilla meth did this stoopid dangerous hateful act. Maybe that schmecklehead kid Track-the-schoolbus-saboteur knows ‘em.

David Scott – Palin raised hundreds of thousands for the GOP in fundraisers whereever she went, during the campaign season. Why not call her up and ask her to do a fundraiser for WBC, if that’s your concern? I’m sure she would do it, and they could easily cover the damage.

When a kid got paralyzed in a football accident in our county, we didn’t call on our governor, senators, or even our mayor to raise money for the kid. As a citzen of Wasilla , I really can’t see why I should donate to any church. Let the faithful rebuild, my charitable contributions will go to more worthy causes. Hats and gloves for homeless veterans, canned goods for the foodbank and my personal fave, equine rescue.
Course, paying higher property tax to cover that hockey rink she had built on property the city didn’t have title to takes a bite out of my donation fund.
And “Teamsarah” is just a front for the Susan B Anthony List anyway, pushing off rightwing politics on young Palin admirers, who might otherwise be more moderate or liberal if they thought about what they were doing.

Trooper gate, the fire, There are so many people who associate with SP, and her language although she is very hypocritical, by identifying with it, she gains support and unfortunately they outnumber people with morals. I got an email back from Fred Dyson, this is his response to my email regarding troopergate.
I am in receipt of your e-mail concerning your recommendation that I investigate, impeach or lynch Governor Palin.
I participated in the Branchflower presentation, including the confidential portion of the report. Some of his findings were as follows:
1) The Governor had the authority to fire or transfer Commissioner Walt Monegan.
2) The investigation of Trooper Mike Wooten by the Alaska State Troopers was complete. If the recommendation of that investigation had been followed this whole matter could have been avoided and would have been resolved 4 years ago.
3) Citizens, who complain about a state peace officer, are precluded by law from ever knowing if the government ever paid any attention, investigated or took any action on the complaint. Branchflower himself said it was no wonder the Palin family was frustrated. They could not be told by the Department of Public Safety what, if anything had happened with their complaints. I am personally introducing legislation to fix this hole in our state law so this will not happen to any other citizen.
4) Mr. Monegan said when he told Governor Palin that it was improper for her to talk to him about any personnel matter; she never brought it up again! However, Mr. Monegan did tell Governor Palin that it was ok for Todd Palin, as a citizen, to talk to him regarding the matter.
5) Governor Palin could have handled this situation better and Mr. Monegan or Governor Palin should have referred the issue to the State Personnel Board much sooner than it was. I believe the above “FACTS” to be unassailably TRUE.
Your e-mail seems to impeach itself, 1) It was slavishly similar to dozens of e-mails I received indicating very little independent thought and NO NEW FACTS. 2) It seemed to jump to the guilty assumption and that Governor Palin is known by you to be EVIL. 3) It showed no sense of mercy or understanding of human frailty.
Unlike you, I do not know for sure if this issue was a “cover up” or a witch hunt, it may have been a bit of both.
Finally, please know that your e-mail had NO positive effect on me except to motivate me to be even more fair and open minded as I attempt to do my duty.
If you do find facts that will inform my decisions or mature to a point that your position is based on facts and fairness, I will be delighted to hear from you.
In addition, Alaska statutes do NOT clearly state that the “Legislative Council” has the authority to investigate the administration or issue subpoenas. Unfortunately the state court refused to rule on this.

Regarding the Wasilla church, insurance arson is the “oldest trick in the book” and any speculation as to whether Grifter Sarah did this or that or didn’t is wearing my patience thin.
I still wonder about how the MSM didn’t corner SP into answering about her husband’s involvement in the AIP during the presidential election. Why did that not come out? That was pretty significant, well documented NEWS – why was it not brought up by the MSN?
