Mudstock V in Anchorage!

mudstockanc4

This weekend, Anchorage Mudflatters came together for Mudstock V, right here in my home town! I’ve had several inquiries from people, wondering if I was perhaps lurking at a nearby table, or if I had infiltrated the group under another identity! I’m afraid I’m not cut out for that kind of stealth, and I’m sure I would have given myself away within the first five minutes. So, regrettably, I stayed away,(sniff) and waited for the report and pictures from the Middleway Cafe! However, it sounds like there was an intriguing couple of strangers hanging about. And even stranger, both Writing and mwThatOne told me they didn’t think it was me because I don’t sound like I drink Coke! And they are absolutely right… The intuitive power of Mudflatters. Wow.

Thanks to all of you for your support, and warm thoughts. I was with you in spirit!

************************************************************

I (mwThatOne..) promised to get a table, so went to MiddleWay early. And, I had to post my ‘one of a kind’ sign at the table (picture attached)…..I, being somewhat of an event planner in my day (only informal & domestic, mind you) had plundered a discount store to find ‘favors’ last night….Felt that I scored with YELLOW duct tape with which I framed the sign, which sported the flashy yellow boots fashioned of a golden mailing envelope. My DH had found big golden stars which were used on place cards (with the logo yellow boots lifted from the webtubes x 6 per page)…. I brought sparkly and shiny ornaments with a string of snowpuffs to hold them, and assigned each mudpuppy to decorate their ornament with boots of duct tape, which they were to cut out, themselves.

At each place were chocolate covered snowpeople with top hats…yum!

Erin brought Mudflats buttons/pins to share! Welcome gifts for sure!

Of course we covered all subjects SP and more, but perhaps being in a public place was a little off-putting, so we were a tad more subdued than we felt the California Mudstock was. It was a fine time, however, and I’m sure we will be more rowdy (ourselves/Alaskan) next time…

There was a couple who seemed to be spying on us, peering at the sign, and talking behind a hand….the woman wore a Barbie t-shirt, and they moved from one table to another in order to be closer to us. Alas, no one thought to invite them to join us.

I have a few decorated-with-boots ornaments on my table here, waiting to be driven downtown and hung surreptitiously on a tree near government offices.

How cool… I am sure it was hard to stay away…but I understand your need also.

I also wonder about the couple…were they just lurkers or were they Palinistas reporting back to the queen…lol

Glad all went well for you and it sounds like a good time was had by all.

Looks like you all had a great time. It is too bad someone didn’t invite the lurkers. They might have been spies, at which point they would likely have moved away again, or they might have been kindred mudpuppies, just waiting for an invitation.

Thanks for sharing the pics. It’s nice to see all of you.

no…..Pat, I can assure you that they were not ‘kindred mudpuppies”…the
scowl on his face and the tshirt denoting a red bent. They just added to the ambience. My favorite lurker was the woman with the laptop wearing a red sweater. She was nearby on the edge of earshot the whole time.

For anyone interested in keeping some of the election campaign excitement going… here’s an invite from the Obama-Biden transition team and change.gov to lead a Health Care Community Discussion with friends and relations. Details at change.gov/page/s/hcdiscussion

“…This holiday season, we’re asking you to give us the gift of your ideas and input.

“Sign up to lead a Health Care Community Discussion in your home, community center, or even a local coffee shop, anytime until December 31st.

“We’ll provide you with a special Moderator’s Guide that will give you everything you need to get the discussion going. Secretary-designate Tom Daschle will even choose some discussions to attend in person.”

OMG! I bet they were Barbie spy’s!!!! That is Hilarius! I can’t wait to see what trees the ornaments get put on, maybe the gov. office???hehehehe!

    @mwThatOne.. (10:23:44),

Considering the demeanor you have recounted of the “lurkers” close by, it would be my opinion that they were indeed sent by the Palinista camp to lend an ear.

You know they monitor these boards….the Mudflats are in the know and they have to keep up with all of the latest Mudflat twitter! ;-)

Take care & hello to everyone from cold Calgary!

  25. 25
    nswfm CANo Gravatar says:

    Wow! someone came from Calgary!

And I was wimping out on the cold being about 12 degrees at night when I went to Park City last week! It 40 during the day, and I got out around 6:00 PM before it got really cold! And the weather was so bad when my friends left Sunday that it took them 13 hrs door to door because the weather caused them to miss their connection to Wisconsin. With a 5 year old.

A standing ovation for the people in the cold areas. May people from AK get the heat they need for the winter from their MIA governor. All over the media, and nowhere for the people she’s supposed to be serving with that “servant’s heart.” She’s probably looking for servants to do her bidding….

AKM, you really should consider going someday. You could drag along a few friends, both men and women so you could maintain your cover. I’m sure you could safeguard yourself enough not to give yourself away; and the mudpup’s in attendance, knowing how important it is to keep your anonymity, would not tempt you.

Just sayin’ cause you started this whole snowball rolling and you deserve a front seat to your handiwork at some point!

Okay, I know you won’t – but it’s at least worth thinkin’ about, eh?

To all who want to know about the boots- I got them used at Once Upon a Child. I’ll have to look at the brand and report back.

As far as the lurkers go, the guy was sitting at a table about 20 feet away, and seemed to be staring at us. I thought he left, but it turns out he moved to a table right behind us with a woman wearing a Sarah Palin sweatshirt. One of our group heard him say, “There’s the sign” so I would say they definitely were there on purpose. Makes you wonder…

Thanks to everyone who came- especially mwThatOne, who got the ball rolling and made the table so festive.

Wait until you hear of the disposition of the ornaments. I found the duct tape at WM (sorry, don’t really like to go there, but do it on special occasions..and this was quite special). There are other colors than mudflat yellow there, also. Too. I felt that it would ‘progress’ the project…

All of our legislators need to have the balls–look at what a mess our country is in because of lack of oversight, outright fraud, trampling on the Constitution, the list goes on, etc.

Look at the hole we’re in in CA-they made a big deal about the vechicle license fees in 2003, and now the Republicans are playing chicken with the budget over that. Their message: let’s screw over little kids for early childhood development, pay people with IOUs, delay tax refunds because the GOP wants to act like people who need a boot in the balls….

I’ve been a lurker here for some time now but have only posted once. I am especially heartened to see so many nice people representing the Anchorage area because I recently found out my nephew is going to play Summer baseball there. That’s a ways off, I know, but I just wanted to get some feel for what he can expect. This will be the furthest from home he’s ever been. He’s a very special young man and I’d like to be able to connect with someone in the area. It can’t hurt to have a mudflatter nearby if he was ever in need. I can be contacted at writeheart@yahoo.com
    Thank you in advance!
