Levi Johnston’s Mother is Arrested – Updated

19 12 2008

If anyone is still bothering to watch reality TV, or soap operas, I really don’t know why. Quit wasting your precious time, and tune in to real life in Alaska. It’s far more dramatic and compelling, and you’ll get a lot more bang for your entertainment buck.

Ready for this one? Sherry Johnston, mother of Levi Johnston, (boyfriend of Bristol Palin and soon to be father of her child), has been arrested on six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Troopers served the warrant at Johnston’s home at the “conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation,” said a statement issued Thursday by the troopers as part of the normal daily summary of activity around the state.

Troopers charged Johnston with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance — generally manufacturing or delivering drugs — as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession.

Troopers released no other information, including the kind or amount of drugs, because details could jeopardize an ongoing investigation, spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

Asked how long the investigation had proceeded before Johnston’s arrest, Peters would only say “a while.”

The Palmer District Attorney’s office had no comment.

Sherry Johnston was arrested around noon and booked at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, according to a booking officer there. She was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond just after 2 p.m.

No charging documents had been filed at Palmer courthouse by the end of the day, a clerk said.

Levi Johnston sat with Bristol and the rest of the Palin family in St. Paul, Minn., during Gov. Palin’s speech to the Republican National Convention, and he joined the family on the stage afterwards.

When asked about the arrest, Palin’s spokesman, Bill McAllister, issued the following statement by e-mail: “This is not a state government matter. Therefore the governor’s communications staff will not be providing comment or scheduling interview opportunities.”

I’m sure they won’t. They’re not going to touch this one with a ten foot pole. Answering questions about whether your pregnant daughter was hanging out in a crack house, or a meth lab is not on anyone’s list of things they want to do today. And the fact that this arrest comes just two days before Bristol’s stated due date just adds a whole other layer of unbelievability.

We last heard from Sherry Johnston, back when Levi joined the Palins on the campaign trail. At that time,

Sherry Johnston said she was worried about her son dealing with all the attention. She said it is difficult enough for teenagers to deal with any pregnancy; having the entire nation watching makes it worse.

Levi Johnston, a hockey player for Wasilla High School, is not listed on the team roster for 2008-09, and his mother wouldn’t say if he graduated. She said simply he’s no longer a student and any further information would have to come from him.

The intense media scrutiny has stunned this suburban community about 40 miles north of Anchorage, with reporters camping out near the Johnston home.

“This is out of my league,” Sherry Johnston said. “I’m just a country gal, and I want to keep it that way.”

Well, gee then, it probably would have been a good idea not to be cookin’ up drugs in your house. Just sayin’.

OK, everybody, all together now. You can’t make this stuff up.

UPDATE: Just announced that the drug involved in the charges is Oxycontin.  Read the full story HERE.

Aside from the point that Sarah’s staff’s argument that this is not a state issue (her hauling them out to benefit her campaign negates that), I hope that social services in Wasilla will watch over this yet to be born baby. Two grandmothers of this scale warrant some kind of oversight, don’t ya think??

Oh my, so much going on, my heart goes out to those who they push the drugs on, but ALSO, I think we should use the same thing on SP, she and the Palins are Palling around with drugdealers. So sad!

Personally, since I remember reading here MONTHS ago (it seems) that Levi used oxcy, and that Palin’s boy went in the army because it was legal trouble or Military service, it doesn’t surprise me it is Oxy. This stuff was all on MySpace pages that mysteriously disappeared. One has to wonder if they got themselves busted by what they themselves posted.

“You know, Maybe Levi set up his mom to get out of the marriage.”

My devious mind was thinking along the same line, except I think that Sarah Palin herself started the investigation. She’s going to use it as an excuse for why Bristol won’t/can’t get married. The marriage story was a sham just for the campaign. Now, there’s a clean “out.”

    Denise Says:

Wasilla did have the “meth capital” reputation.

Hmmm. Has the wedding already QUIETLY happened? Or will it never happen? After seeing marriages that were based on teen pregnancies, I am of the opinion teen pregnancy is not a good reason for marriage.

Meth abuse has increased among pregnant women seen by local organizations trying to help chemical-abusing women who are pregnant or mothers. It is a very difficult substance to kick.

When you are raised in a dysfunctional family, the problem is that you HAVE NO ROLE MODEL for what is correct behavior.
I had to get married at 18, was incredibly niave. I thought all you needed to raise a baby was plenty of OJ & milk! ( at least I got the nutritional component right!) I did it to win freedom from my family of origin, but classically he was a potential, closeted alcoholic! I divorced him 16 years later, but in the winter of my life……….frustratingly, I had a lot of potential that never had a chance to flourish. Even so, I did better than most!

    C.B. Todd Says:

Tafficking in illegal oxyContin is mandatory 20 years if death or injury is involved. Here’s background on the stuff.

“The introduction of higher strength preparations in 1995 resulted in increasing patterns of abuse. Unlike Percocet, whose potential for abuse is somewhat limited by the presence of paracetamol (acetaminophen), OxyContin and other extended release preparations contain mainly oxycodone. Abusers crush the tablets to break the time-release coating and then ingest the resulting powder orally, intra-nasally, rectally, or by injection. Research has shown that the brains of adolescent mice, which were exposed to OxyContin, can sustain lifelong and permanent changes in their reward system. It is notable that the vast majority of OxyContin related deaths are attributed to ingesting substantial quantities of oxycodone in combination with another depressant of the central nervous system such as alcohol, barbiturates and related drugs.”

Notice the part of the updated article that says:

Kalytiak said the standard protocol for drug arrests is that law enforcement officials observe one drug buy, then get a warrant that permits them to record conversations and document more buys.

Wonder if they did record any conversations?? This could get even more interesting depending on who was doing the conversing.

My guess is she was dealing, and that is why there was an investigation for awhile. I’ve heard oxy is very addictive to some people; is that right?

  13. 213
Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble Says:

Oxy is very addictive. It was never intended for chronic pain, only for people with a terminal illness – if you’re actively dying, who cares if you’re addicted. My stepson had a bad accident involving his hand and was given oxy by a pain clinic. He was using his prescription and buying off the street. Had a successful business which he ran into the ground.

My nurse sister says it’s the #1 abuse problem they see in the ER around here. And we’re worried about marijuana?

    crystalwolf a.k.a. caligrl Says:

Well you know right wing conservatives are ok with oxy, wasn’t that what Rush was on? If its good enough for Rush….?

This could get very ugly. :(

    This is from DU:
    Remember this report?

    http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/65407

The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that Sarah’s oldest son, Track, was addicted to the power drug OxyContin for nearly the past two years, snorting it, eating it, smoking it and even injecting it. And as Track, 19, heads to Iraq as part of the U.S. armed forces, Sarah and her husband Todd were powerless to stop his wild antics, detailed in the new issue of The ENQUIRER, which goes on sale today.

  16. 216
    Hudson Says:

Oxycontin? That seals it. The baby will be named Rush Limbaugh Johnston.

  17. 217
    Hudson Says:

P.S. Wouldn’t this seem to shed some new light on why Bristol was strangely pulled from the Wasilla school system and sent to Anchorage in the winter of 2006-7? Maybe to keep her away from the drug-dealing family of her boyfriend?

  18. 218
    crystalwolf a.k.a. caligrl Says:

I bet there will be no marriage and if Bristol has her baby (and not ‘miscarry’) the baby will be given up for adoption to nice ‘christian’ home, so she can get on with her life…! (like maybe get a HS diploma)

    txdemocrat Says:

Why am I thinking that even if Palin wanted this to happen or played a hand in it, she is not wanting this to go to trial and get ALL the dirty details out there. Think of eveyrone who could be dragged up to testify…Johnston’s KIDS, ANYone who stepped foot in the house, etc.. then there are the names of who this lady allegedly may have sold the drug to….can’t have those repuke Wasillian kids/families drug habits exposed.
So this will play out with Johnston plea bargaining to avoid trial. Jail time gets her away from the Palin clan for a while, Palin herself keeps up the “this is not a state problem, I will not comment” (yeah, well the CHURCH fire was not a state problem, either, but you put yourself in the middle of it).
Hey..did you all catch SP’s father blabbing how Bristol is getting presents “from around the world”, “more than she can ever use”?? Guess she is feeling that she hit paydirt. I say: donate the stuff to charity since the Palin family is so well off. Funny how he has said more about the baby than SP herself.

So now the news comes out that the drug she was dealing was Oxycontin.

    How about this connection:

    Track Palin OxyContin

The National Enquirer reported on September 10, 2008, that Track Palin, the eldest son of Alaska Governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was addicted to the painkiller OxyContin for two years. In order to escape a troubled life in Alaska, the Enquirer claimed, Track Palin enlisted in the U.S. Army.

I think there is a distinct possibility this is Palin’s doing. I can’t imagine the State Troopers didn’t apprise her of the situation and the timing is certainly curious.

I disagree with you totally. Sarah Palin is the State Trooper’s least favorite person in the world. They are under no obligation to inform her when they make an arrest and I doubt they did this time. I’m thinking that they were glad to arrest Levi’s mom, thinking that “payback’s a b|tch”.

Well, I’m not surprised at any of this. Sad, sickened, sorry….just not surprised.

I don’t see the fascination with this drug – I have had to take it off and on, especially during chemo, but the only thing it seemed to do for me was to make me constipated – and it worked really good for that – really good. :-(

Life must be awfully boring where she lives – that’s the only thing I can deduce from this bruhaha…

    irina Says:

Miss Sarah’s frenetic energy levels and disjointed communication style and total lack of self-reflection my indicate a mental disorder (eg bipolar) but may also be symptoms of some sort of illegal self-medication on drugs . . . older video clips of when she was running for governor do not exhibit the same level of verbal incoherence (altho she still didn’t say much that was substantive, she did manage to say insubstantive stuff rather more coherently).

I have thought ever since Trig was born that her energy levels for a new mother in her mid-forties with other dependent children were suspiciously off the charts . . .

The Alaskan budget appears to be based on the same mechanics as the Federal budget and most, if not all states. The Govornor proposes a budget which is a starting point and the state legislature is free to accept it as if (which never happens), basicly ignore it and do their own thing or more commonly use it as a starting to point. How close the legislature feels the need to stick with the proposed budget depends on whether the same political parties control both branches and how popular the Govornor and her policies are. I gather the Legislature was not impressed with Palin’s budget and will probably largely ignore it, if she does come up with something more plausible.
