“Coffee Talk” With Sherry Johnston.
Well, it’s 11:15am here in Alaska, and it seems like a good time for a coffee break.
Let me say, however, for any law enforcement, FBI, Secret Service, or other entity that may be monitoring this communication, I am NOT…I repeat, NOT going to go have coffee with Sherry Johnston. And neither should anyone else.
Sherry Johnston, the mother of Sarah Palin’s future son-in-law, was busted on six felony counts for possession and dealing of the prescription drug Oxycontin, affectionately known as “Hillbilly Heroin.”
New details on her arrest have emerged, including the fact that Johnston used text messages to set up meeting places where she would sell 10 pills for $800. Sounds like those hillbillies have a bunch of disposable income.
Using the code word “coffee” instead of Oxycontin, and referring to the fact that she needed to keep some for her own use, one text message read, “There’s only so many times I can go for coffee a month. The rest of the time I need to have it at home!”
The investigation started the second week of September, two weeks after Sarah Palin was nominated as the Republican VP candidate. So, while her son Levi was flown in to attend the RNC after the stunning news that Palin’s teenage daughter was pregnant with his child, his mother was under investigation for drug dealing.
It all started when investigators intercepted a package containing 179 Oxycontin pills, and arrested two people who then agreed to cooperate with police to help catch others involved in the distribution of the drug.
One wonders what would have happened if that package had been intercepted a couple months earlier, and the news was revealed in….oh, I don’t know….October?
According to the affidavit,Johnston sent a text message to one informant Oct. 1, writing: “Hey, my phones are tapped and reporters and god knows who else is always following me and the family so no privacy. I will let u no when I can go for cof.”
This begs the question, “If u no ur phones r tapped, y r u sending txt msgs?”
The report that Ms. Johnston was under Secret Service protection while dealing drugs appears to be incorrect.
Johnston will be arraigned in Palmer on January 6th. Stay tuned for more details. I will let u no.
Umm, it’s looking more and more certain that EVERYONE in Wasilla is White Trash. What’s up with that place?

Seems that John McCain was worrying about the “full extent” of the wrong “relationship”! Far from being “warshed (sic) up” like Mr. Ayers, Mrs. Johnston seems to have had a thriving little business going until the doggone gotcha media started harshing her buzz.
That little item has been bubbling away in the background for a few days now.
I can understand Sherry Johnston turning to Oxycontin to dull the disbelief at joining the Palin’s extended family, but surely all of her purported customers weren’t also on the groom’s guest list?
Shoot, at a reputed $80 a pop, that’s a lot of money diverted away from the gift registry.
What’s the word on the mother- and bride-to-be these days? Does it look the nuptials are still on?

Are we to believe in a town the size of Wassila Sherry Johnston’s neighbors and other town folk didn’t know their was drug dealing going on at her house? Are we supposed to believe Sarah Palin had no inkling, heard no rumors, or even got a head’s up from the state troopers?
For all her small town=good people rhetoric Sarah seemed fine with her 15 year old’s friends and their booze filled partying. Were Trak and Levi friends? Did Trak’s behavioral problems have anything to do with “coffee”?
Last but not least, little Levi/Levina is 9 days over due. I know that’s not terribly unusual, but it isn’t great, either. Just asking.

You know your every move is being scrutinized and still you deal and use. The power of the drug, eventually it snares you. I’m sure her list of customers would reveal some interesting names. Any chance they could be redacted? And SP has been pretty quiet this past week. Do you think she feels the noose tightening a little on her, and she’s plotting on how do do a Houdini.

Yes, Sarah has been unusually quiet. I agree with pvaz. Gov. Palin is knee deep in moose doo-doo along with possibly some other member(s) of her family.
I third the question about the baby being overdue. I can’t shove the thought from my mind that the later this baby arrives, the more possible it is that it could certainly be Bristol’s second baby in not so short a time as the public was told to believe. Sorry if I’m not supposed to say that, but it’s just one more small indicator that something is rotten in Denmark.
“The Valley” is the reference to the Matanuska-Susitina Valley where Palmer, Wasilla, and other smaller communities shared a Borough government and geography within a long commute to Anchorage. Largely populated by some homesteaders and farmers, or newbies with North Slope jobs (two weeks on, two weeks off), or Libertarians who wanted to escape government, or just a family who wanted a little more land at an affordable price. Then there are the Bible Bangers and the Druggies. All of which are over-simplified categories that do not even begin to really described real people, but The Valley has a small enough population that there does seem to be enough truth to the generalizations that most Alaskans would agree with the characterization.
Now we can add “Valley of the Dolls”

I don’t know what the penalty would be for her dealing and selling, but if it was as severe as I think the court would find it to be, she could sing, sing, sing. A plea deal is that possible? Do you think SP would try and manipulate the trooper investigation? Oh lordy, I feel another “gate” happening. And I think that this is not a new enterprise by Sherry Johnston. I think she’s been conducting illicit activities for quite sometime.

Well….yes, ‘texting’ to circumvent a phone tap is not as clever as it seemed initially. Embarking on a ‘distribution run’ when you think you are being followed, is not much wiser. Making the exchange ‘out in the open’ foils any hidden microphones….but not a video camera. All the code jargon about ‘bringing the coffee’ wasn’t enough to fool the cops. But maybe she was high? Who knows?
The point is that, had her life taken a different turn years ago, her courage under fire and her dogged determination, would have made her an ideal candidate for a posting as a CIA Field Agent.

I am sorry that some people do this. We all know that it is not true. All towns and neighborhoods have a few bad people. Everyone from alaska on mudflats are part of the good guys/gals as I am sure most of the people of alaska are. I have been on this site for a long time and any time I see things like this, and it has happened a few times, the name I see posted with it is one that I do not know or is not a regular.. I personally hold all of the people of alaska in very high esteem. It is one thing for us in the other 49 to sit in our parents basements in PJ’s writing this stuff but we do not face any back lash from SWWNBN. you guys on the other hand are right in the thick of it and I have worried for you at times. I know how small towns can be.

I know this is really out there, but before the election when the question of who Trig’s mother really is and if Levi was the father of Bristol’s baby my husband wondered if, given the health problems that arise from a gene pool too closely related, could Todd possibly be Trig’s father and Bristol Trig’s mother? Alaska has one of the highest rates of incest in the U.S. Added to that, Gov. Palin’s doctor is an expert on the subject. Yes, the doctor who seems to have disappeared. Watching Piper act more like a mommy than Sarah is a little creepy. I keep thinking of Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and the purpose of women in some of the more paternalistic religious sects which hold their teachings above the law and strive for the power to model the secular laws after their own. Think: the Alaskan Separatist Movement combined with witch hunting ministry.
You know, the thing IS, that it is probably standard for the FBI and whoever to do an investigation into the background of people close to Sarah Palin the minute she was nominated for VP. CRFlats, I have a feeling you’re referring to my post re:the paternity of the Palin offspring. This is a kid free zone. I assume we are all adults and this is an adult discussion.
This last campaign was the most bizarre in our history, at least in the last century. Why McCain chose Palin as his running mate will probably be debated for another century. She and her family could easily be the subjects of a reality show.
On top of that, the last 8 years of the Bush administration have been the most secretive in our history. It has given rise to rumors and speculation. We are almost like the Russians during the cold war where they read between the lines in their newspapers and radio and television broadcasts to “Break the Code” as Thom Hartmann wrote. A missing face on the dais behind the leader says, what?
Of course, the kids are victims of a world class narcissistic COUPLE which is exactly why we should not turn our heads to their welfare.
My input wasn’t meant to be prurient. It was part of the concern I think we share about how did we get here from the time we , as a nation, were the shining light on the hill. Our government practices illegal invasions of foreign countries, killing more that a million Iraqi civilians, practices torture, and generally trashes our Constitution, to make a long story short.
We missed the bullet with this last election as a previous poster stated, but it was these very narcissists who tried to drag us into the mud with them who have heightened our awareness as to how they will do anything to attain power and though they speak of morality their private lives are also a means to their goals and it is the middle class, the class the right wing is at war with who really bears the burden of the mythical Judeo/Christian ethics politicians love to speechify about.

The children should be left of this, they aren’t responsible for their parents, they(the children) can barely take care of themselves. I don’t think the jailbird Sherry will be singing, since two others already sang to the feds. Put a fork in her, she’s done.
SWWNBN threw her own daughter under the bus on national TV, very sad thing to do when it could have been done so many other ways. If she was trying to get back at Bristol for getting pregnant, she sure did a good job.
One problem I’ve had with all the speculation re: Who I Trig’s Mother? is that I’ve always read (posted from a Down Support website:) “Anyone can have a baby with Down syndrome. But the older the mother, the greater the risk.” To me that gives credence that SP may well be the Mom.
I feel sorry for these kids! Hard enough being a teen, but to have every facet of their lives & unwedded pregnancy under the World’s microscope, is just over the top and bordering on cruel. IMO.
……..sigh……..time and time again – Sarah trotted ‘em out for the whole world to stare at ……..you are right…….it’s not the kids fault and it looks like she learned her lesson………she just made it too easy with her dog and pony show and her hate mongering……..I would not wish the misery on any child that she has inflicted on those kids………kids are resilient and many times turn out better from where they came from….hopefully that will be the case here……..hope indeed .
Started reading Mudflats tonight to see if I could find out about the new baby. Ho ho ho, as Santa would say. No baby, huh? Has anyone actually seen Bristol Palin and actually seen that there’s a baby in there? Do you think the Palins thought the spotlight would go away? I think if you put lipstick and Neiman Marcus on Sherry, she could have run for VP as McCain’s running mate too. I mean, that’s all there is to it, right?
I don’t get the kid-free zone issue on this blog. The kids were made newsworthy by their parents and, during the campaign, also by the Republican Party. The public can’t have it both ways. No one is putting the kids down, but rather observing their travails – and abandonment by the adults in their lives, I might add – as reflections of how they are being parented, something over which they have no control.
I promise never to use the phrase “white trash” except about Specific People, not entire communities.
One of the points I’m trying to make is that good people, I mean really good people like you mudflatters are too good to even imagine what goes on with people in real power, in the board rooms of major corporations and in in the halls of our senate, house of reps, and the Oval Office.
I’m asking us all to see through this sociopathic behavior and flatly reject it.

I can understand and agree about not dragging innocents into the muck that their parents splash in, but on the other hand, if a politician is spinning MAJOR lies about their personal life, what are the chances they’ll be honest in politics? I can see that the baby discussion would be relevant in that light. After all, some people can’t get over that a male politician/president lied about sex which was his personal business and say that who he slept with is relevant. So, maybe this is just as relevant as that was.

WRT the siblings jumping in and helping so much with Trig, may I share a story of my own youth? Back in Arizona, mid 60′s before all the Civil Rights movement and MLK, Mom was a stay at home mother while Dad worked. They were foster parents for 31 babies (4-5 living with us at a time once the State discovered we had great success, willing to take babies with little notice day or night, and able to get them being adoptable (some were pretty traumatized) without hassles in letting them go to their OWN permanent family). Probably 90% were of mixed races, while we were Caucasian. We daughters (age 14, 11,
still at home were so proud of our babies and ALL of us naturally became heavily involved, feeding, bathing, nurturing – probably matured earlier than other classmates our ages as a result, later on we never lacked for babysitting.
Every week when we went grocery shopping, Mom mapped things out before we hit the store. Each of us girls would put babies in their infant seats in the grocery cart and head towards the groceries we were directed to select @ different parts of the store: Milk, produce, flour, whatever was on the list – so Mom could focus on choosing the countless jars of baby food & baby cereals.
Bear in mind, we young Caucasion teen girls were running around with Mexican/Indian/Black babies in our carts. My Sis (age 11) and I (age 14) always had a running weekly bet as to which of us could “collect the MOST old ladies” trailing behind our cart with their pursed lips & disapproving glares at these young unwed teens hauling 1-2 babies in their cart. Starting/stopping, pretending to select some item whenever Sis or I paused to collect something on the list.
At the end of the shopping we would always meet back at the SAME checkout counter for the ritual. My Dad was a grocery clerk in that store, so we couldn’t use his counter, but the main thing was that particular Meat Scale. Which is why we always used the same checkout, you could expect in those days that Meat Scale would weigh in the same week after week. We would line up with our disapproving old ladies, and Mom would pull out her Index Cards, one for each baby. She would announce that we would probably take a little longer to checkout, since we needed to weigh all her beautiful Foster Babies (the Index Cards were later submitted at Doctor appointments to show progress or problems). Put a blanket on the scale & proceed to weigh babies. The checkout clerks loved the process, nothing sweeter than a well cared for baby and all those carts of baby food & groceries to be checked out.
Never failed! Instantaneously, the tremendous line of old disapproving ladies invariably vanished sheepishly to get back to their own shopping.
Didn’t meant to hog your blog AKM! Sorry for the long story, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that things are not always what they appear to be. The Palin Girls may be simply stepping up to the plate and making sure their baby brother is loved and cared for.
Let’s ask her and Blagojevich the same question: Haven’t you ever seen (or at least heard of ) THE WIRE?

I agree with CRFlats; the point is SP used them (her kids, relatives, Levi) as photo op. While it’s ok to be curious, this is not really about Bristol’s baby…if there isn’t one, then look to SP: continued lies. The sad part about Sherry Johnson is her drug addiction/dealing, AND that SP held up her family/Levi/Wasilla as a “good” American town with good values. I’m sure there are many Valley residents with good values, and hopefully the good judgment to look to others for leadership.
If Johnson didn’t have a connection to SP, she would be just another drug arrest…

Just because we mudflatters seem “good” doesn’t mean we aren’t informed, educated, aware citizens/voters. I know what can go on in the halls of power, just as I know many politicians and business people who are honorable and have integrity.

@Pilgim et al: My comments were not pointed to anyone in particular. The subject matter just brought the idea to mind. It is something I wanted to share some time ago. My thoughts are that speculation about things we have no way of knowing about could really be hurtful to the innocent and victimized children. Alaska, in general, and Wasilla, in this case. in particular, is a small community. The kids over at Wasilla High and Elementary School DO read this stuff. I agree it was SWWNBN that started it all with the parade she headed up, but that does not mean we need to follow. Might be, a an Alaskan mom in a small community, that I am hyper sensitive to gossip that might hurt the kids. It’s good to reflect on our actions, something I suspect SWWNBN doesn’t do enough of while crashing through all those doors she thinks her god is cracking open for her.

To me, it was never whose kid is this, it was always why does she feel the need to create a false persona using her kids as props. If it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t-
I will play the “Texas Card” again, and say it personally pains me when I read someone painting the entire state of Alaska or even just Wasilla as “white trash” or any other derogatory stereotype.
To think that others would judge me using Boy George as a standard is more than disheartening and certainly would distance me from them, even if I generally agreed with their stand.
It is the compartmentalization and tagging of people as good and evil over the last eight years that fanned the fires of hate to forge the deep divides in this country.
Call the former candidate and current governor of the northernmost state, yes THAT ONE, “white trash” if you want, though it is very unfair to true white trash. Do not include everyone with whom she comes in contact. They, in large part, can’t help it.

There is no way you can compare your experience to the Palin girls’ life. That’s what I’m writing about. Yes, your family scrimped, planned shopping trips, and shared your life and love with your foster siblings. The Palins aren’t living on the edge. You didn’t have the media’s cameras aimed at you during those days. You all did it in private out of your altruism.
I guess what I’m trying to say is we live in a different world than people like the Palins. I’m a mudflatter, too, and I sincerely aim to be a good person. That said, I will again say, believe me, the Palins and people with visions of grandeur like them do not equate you, or me with themselves. Harsh but true.

There was a picture on AKM site showing Bristol during election week and she was clearly expecting a baby unlike some of the pictures of sister palin..I would think Bristol would be having her baby soon…who knows how long they will try to keep it private though and I suppose with good reason this girl just turned 18.

mhrt, Bristol herself had lots of photos on Facebook showing herself and her friends drinking and partying heartily, guns included. For all the world to see! Bristol is a victim of her parents’ negligence on their way to the top but she is also a willing participant in the world wide tide to the end of personal privacy.
I think that might be Levis sister in those pictures if you check it out. I am not saying her parents are great parents…..That is why we are all here… This is not a pro palin site…BUT the kid just turned 18….Blame the parents all you want -Not the kid

Either I didn’t express myself well enough, you haven’t read what I wrote, or you have an idee fixe re: the kids. the point I was trying to make is how the secrecy of the Bush administration and the less than forthcoming info from the McCain/Palin candidacy has spawned a culture of rumors and speculation on the par of Cold War Russia and we shouldn’t put anything past the ambitions of sociopaths. I never blamed Sarah Palin’s children for anything. I ask us all to question the motivations of this couple of grifters.

I’m angry that the arrest was delayed till after the election.
That was done deliberately so that John McCain and SP could have a chance to be elected President and VP.
WHo made that decision? And why was it made? Oxy contin is a dangerous drug when not used as prescribed. How transactions occurred during the time that they did not arrest her?
Did Sarah Palin have ANYTHING to do with the delay in the arrest?
Would they have held up the arrest if it had been Joe Biden’s future in laws?
I think Alaskan’s need to ask some serious and hard questions of their law enforcement people. They are there to protect people. Why did politics enter into this arrest? And again, who made that decision?

SP could try and manipulate the trooper investigation but considering how the State Troopers feel about SP, it might be difficult for her. They don’t much like the way she treated Mike Wooten and I’m thinking that she would be best served by staying out of their investigation. She might see it turn around and bite her big time.

There were reports that Track was addicted to Oxycontin for two years and that is one of the reasons why he enlisted. I’m wondering if, when they cut a deal with Johnston, that we won’t find out that she was the dealer supplying Track.

I think that the good governor is a firm believer in the old saw, “the only thing worse than bad publicity is no publicity” (the most dangerous place on the planet is the space between Sarah and a turned-on TV camera).
While the Alaska Daily News wrote, cheekily tongue-in-cheek, “Maybe she’ll (Bristol) be bringing the baby to jail to see Grandma”, that article was definitely not cleared by the paper’s society columnist.
Staging a large wedding which involves a hopefully active love child and two large and intertwined extended families is an affair which depends upon constant consultation and military-style planning: throw in the constraints imposed by the Alaska Bureau of Prison’s restrictive visiting hours and denied access to e-mail and telephone/text services and they may as well hold off on the nuptials until Sherry Johnston serves out her time; Bristol & Levi sunder their unmarried union; or the unborned bairn graduates from elementary school (whichever comes first).
Life must suck in Sarah’s shitty little house of cards – the winds of truth and justice are howling………

I live in Downeast Maine…………I taught Art to kids in my studio, then went back to college for the technical learning to advance my art career….. After that I did a 2 year stint as an Americorp VISTA to help pay off my Pell grant………working with 6th – 12th graders.
Our area is primarily fishing industry like AK with the same high injury rate. WE had a DR., who got busted for addicting many people to oxy. ( too free with the prescriptions). I attended Residents Against Drugs. and Drug Court meetings. ( An enlightened program to reform drug users/ dealers rather than jail them.) And heard the sad tale from one man in his 40′s who was addicted after a foot injury.
Theft in town was high, and old people had to be escorted to the Pharmacy to get their legitimate drugs, and keep their doors locked.The drug maker Perdu Pharma
trying to placate, invited 5 selected area teachers to a workshop to TEACH THEM HOW TO turn the kids into entrepreneurs, to steer them away from drugs…………..
As a VISTA, I had already tried that, but the kids weren’t very responsive to making hand crafts to sell at the Bluberry Festival, the “savy ones” ( not my label) were already selling drugs, the others just weren’t entrepreneurs………….That is a distinct personality type, not one you can overlay on just any kid! I tried to explain that to the snippy woman from Perdue, but she “knew too much” to listen to the likes of me.
The training in NY City was postponed, because it was scheduled for the 3rd week of Sept. at St., Christophers Hospital in lower Manhattan , the place that waited with volunteers and donated blood……for injured victims who never came! ( after 9/11)
3 years later, after returning to my own life/career, two of my former art students.,
( out of only 15) got into trouble…..one died in a ( drug/alcohol related ) July 4th car crash, leaving behind a 2 1/2 month old baby to be raised by his Father & Grandmothers. Another was arrested smuggling drugs across the Canadian border,
That summer, my neighbor’s daughter returned from her 6 mo. stay in Federal Prison, after stealing money from the bank where she worked. Her husband was addicted……and to feed their 2 kids and his habit, she misguidedly didn’t make the right choice! The entire family worked to make her comfortable at home again, taking extra jobs to help pay back the bank…….taking good care of the kids. SHe is remarried to a good man, 5 years later, I am happy to report, the kids are thriving…..This is a solid all American family with good values, regrettably voting Republican, but the old fashioned Eisenhower kind, no crazy church beliefs, just not yet updated!
The other two kids are from good families with good values as well. Both Mothers,
are bright above average career women, but not overambitious, family first………… not dysfunctional. All three of these girls were extra bright talented………good kids, who fell afoul of OUR society!
The problem is this generation has little hope for the future , because of the corrupt, theiving Government supported corporatocracy we have endured for too long!..And their expectations are being twisted by the quality of entertainment, propaganda, shopping induceing, corporate world! We need a LOT of good role models, beyond Obama. I hope he starts the trend!
Those kids weren’t trailer trash, the rural areas of our country have been dissed! If you prefer living with nature, you miss out on other benefits of life like jobs, culture.etc.
If you live in the urban areas, you need to make LOTS OF MONEY to afford nature & culture! I’m old enough I had both!

Thank you for the kind comments about the story of Mom & Dad & the Foster Babies! We just buried Mom and Dad two weeks ago yesterday, in Phoenix. Mom died 3 yrs ago, day after Christmas. Dad died last month, the week before Thanksgiving.
At the gravesite service, I shared some of the story about the Foster Babies and my parents teaching us about tolerance for different types of people and all. But wish I had told the WHOLE story of the grocery shopping trips. Their passel of grandkids and greatgrandkids might have enjoyed that. My Kid Sis, a 54yr old Grandma herself now, would have definitely gotten a chuckle to remember it. Again, my Thx for the kind comments!
Kath it really was one of the most heart warming stories I have heard in a long time..I am sorry to hear about your mom and dad, but they are back together now and at a special time of the year. What wonderful memories that you may hold to your heart . Yes I sure the kids would all have loved to have heard the long version of the story…perhaps later like at a anniversary or something you can put it in to a letter for all of them..I think they should hear it just like you told it to us…..merry christmas
