Bedtime in Alaska – Odds & Ends!
Before I hit the pillow, here are a few odds & ends:
Food drop for Emmonak and surrounding villages – Food donations are being gratefully accepted at the Calista Building for the residents of the Emmonak area. Dry, lightweight foods are best. No glass jars, or heavy items that will be hard to ship. For ideas and suggestions, or directions call 272-9830. There will be a food drop on Monday, and possibly another one on Wednesday.
Don’t forget the DC Mudstock! If you will be in the area, or want to drive in on Monday at 2pm, you can join a host of other Mudpuppies to celebrate together as we witness the end of an error, and welcome in HOPE! For details, email DCmudstock(at)gmail(dot)com.
Boots on the Ground! If any Mudflatters are in DC now, or plan to be there for the inaugural festivities, and want to email me updates, photos, diaries, or general messages of good cheer, please feel free to do so! I’ll be posting throughout the next few days. Email me at akmuckraker(at)yahoo(dot)com.
NYC Mudstock! Do you live in the NY Metro Area and want to connect with fellow Mudflatters? You’re in luck! The NYC Mudstock has been planned for January 24th noon at Mustang Harry’s on 7th Ave just south of Penn Station NYC. This will be the first Mudstock of the Obama presidency!! Huzzah! The discussion on the forum is HERE.
and finally….
I have, at long last, and with much prodding, entered the land of Facebook. You’ll all have to be kind to me as I navigate my way through the “tubes” to explore this new frontier. But hey, I moved to Alaska and survived, so this should be cake. Right?? So hopefully I’ll see some of you over there. I’m AK Muckraker.

1. Welcome to FB!
2. What is your Facebook name? Mudflats turns up a number of hits in search.
3. Create a ‘page’ in Facebook. More utility than groups.
FB name is AK Muckraker. AKM
I looked for that name and could not find it.
Hmmmm… I typed in “ak muckraker” and it popped right up. Try again? AKM
I’m on Facebook, too, but I’ve never seen my page! People keep teasing me about it, but I’m not even curious to see it.
News from the North Slope:

SEE you There (so to speak, and be spoken to!)…M.
I just sent you a friend request! Methinks you’ll be swamped with friends in about….five minutes!
Aussie Blue Sky, thanks for the link to that APRN story. I missed it — the transmitter on our local public radio station blew up again a few days ago and we’re missing the real Alaskan news (as opposed to what the ADN decides to publish as news).
In that radio story, it mentioned that the people in Pt. Lay sent some beluga to Emo. Now, you guys, don’t get all pushed out of shape. There are lots of belugas in that area; that isn’t the endangered Cook Inlet population. My Yup’ik friends tell me that beluga is a food of the gods. Okay?
Thanks for all you do — really remarkable job during the campaign and doesn’t look like you’ll get a break soon.

So, truth is, I have blogged only one place (or threads to other blogs to buzz up something going on here). I like the anonymity while speaking of something I know about….Alaska….as well as learning more. Facebook is not about anonymity, so I don’t know how that will work. But I signed up on Facebook again, this time using my Mud name. Not sure I get the FB thingy, but will give it a try. I rarely get to the Forum, tho I would like to, so may not use FB much either. This obsession on Mudflats is hard enough to explain to my family. Besides having a Mom & Pop business to run, being one of those awful community organizers, running a household and keeping track of 3 teenagers, I can’t say I’m in jammies as much as I would like.
Thanks AKM-
for the Forum thread to kick start getting more help to the Yukon -Delta.
More ideas and/or ESPECIALLY co-ordinating abilities needed -folks.
Come in to food and energy crisis chat thread if you have knowledge or contacts which can be used…Please.
Facebook is like Myspace for… well, not for teenagers.
I didn’t get an answer at the Calista number but there is an open door and a sign on the building saying that they are accepting donations until 630 pm today. Its 301 Calista Circle-Dimond to King to Calista. Near Costco.
I’ll just put in one additional plug for DC mudstock for any DC locals who might be reading this – there will be forum regulars, blog lurkers, and everything in between at the get-together. Please contact me at the address AKM providesdabove if you want details!
We will be doing a raffle fundraiser in the spirit of National Service Day. We hope to have a good amount to donate to help rural Alaskans – and we will do it in the name of AKM and Mudflats!
Where is Sarah?
Just got back from the MLK celebration downtown. No Sarah, of course. Bill McAllister was there .. shame on him. How can a man who is part black support this woman who brought about such hatred towards blacks during her VP run? Perhaps Carol Comeau should run for gov! She is an amazing leader who shows up for so many meaningful events. She saw the problems that bush Alaska is suffering, while SP does silly interviews with the conservative media. Where is our leader????
