ok just checked out the author now I need to read a book…I buy books ..might as well support Alaska. And Ms palin was saying that she did not have parents that could send her aboard when she got out of school…humm i guess others found a way to to that with out depending on their parents..sounds likes sour grapes to me. I really have to wonder how dirty her hands gets on that fishing boat..I am thinking not very dirty.

As far as I recollect, Mrs Palin’s original introduction to local politics occurred when someone in the city council was putting together a citizens’ panel, and Mrs Palin was approached for it because she was a housewife – which she was for several years. The hard-working dawg is another myth.

I haven’t had a chance to hang with the Muddies in the last little while. So glad to see that politely, but forcefully, the Muddie community is carrying on it’s work.
Right now, all I’m able to personally do is kick in some cash, but hopefully in the future I can get more personally involve as life gets a little less complicated.
You folks ROCK! You find something YOU (we) can do to help out a situation, and then do it. My kinda folks!
Really looking forward to seeing Dennis’s stuff.

Dana Stabenow’s book “Midnight Come Again” takes place partly in Bethel, although it’s called by another name beginning with a “B”.

Speaking of books…
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090122/people_nm/us_palin_1
its being brokered by the same lawyer who has already signed for PO new book “the audacity to win” I wonder if we should drip him a line and tell him what we think of Barbie?
Also, checking up about Emmonak and the other villages, does anyone know if the Dept. of Indian Affairs could help? I found their website and they do include Alaska’s natives, I just don’t know whether writing them would help or hinder? Anyone know? Thanks
Also I thought there was a “Ethic’s clause” about books and interviews and such for Barbie?
January 22nd, 2009 at 6:38 AM
I love Dana Stabenow, though, admittedly, I prefer her earlier books to her later ones. The Kate Shugak series is excellent for those who like their mysteries on the (much) darker side.
As for Palin, if you can get a national media person to show up to Bush Alaska, you can bet on it that Palin will show her face (with new glasses). She is a disgrace to humankind. As for her book–well, I’ve never burned a book before, but I would be sorely tempted.
As for the Alaskan Legislature, it seems they are taking a page out of the new admin’s book in not wanting to look backwards. Which is a crock.

my question is where did the plane the state officials flew into Bethel come from????
and how much did it cost to use? The money allocated for the flight would have been better used to aid those in need…
January 22nd, 2009 at 7:31 AM
Glad to see Dana Stabenow here. Her books are filled with humor, plot ingenuity and fascinating, fun, quirky characters, along with a genuine love of Alaska that shines through in her descriptions of locale and lifestyle. All of that, and she provides a great mystery read as well.

Dana Stabenow is one of my most favorite authors. I’ve read everything she has written. I think she is who instilled my great curiousity and love of Alaska.
Thank goodness my introduction to Alaska was through Dana and not Sarah Palin.
It also reaffirms to me once again how truly classy AKM is as evidenced in the company she keeps.
Welcome to Mudflats Dana! You fit right in.

it’s great to finally see photos of Emmanok!!

Caligirl – The BIA had a large compound and staff in Bethel when I was there. If they aren’t there to help the natives, who are they there to help? Good question, hadn’t even thought of them.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:30 AM
Did you read this?
Whatz.er.name has hired Robert Bennett, a high priced DC lawyer, to negotiate her book deal?
Who’s paying for Bennett? Alaskans? Well, certainly NOT whatz.er.name who collects a per diem for allegedly working at home. The looming question, who pays for Bennett?
… a sad lol…destroying trees for a vanity publication….
OMG, her fifteen minutes keep getting extended to the chagrin of humanity….
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:06 AM
“Whatz.er.name has hired Robert Bennett, a high priced DC lawyer, to negotiate her book deal”
Don’t you just love how she’s a Washington outsider? Which is another lie by the way – she’s had contacts there for quite some time who have been helping promote her rise to national idiocy.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:17 AM
Yeah, and word is that she’s hired some speechwriter from Outside/Lower 48/whatever to (help?) write her State of the State address that’s she’s giving tonight. Prob. paid for from the unused Rural Advisor salary…
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:24 AM
“rise to national idiocy”
LOL. Good one, Martha Unalaska Yard Sign.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 AM
My husband loves the Stabenow books ~~ will put this one on my shopping list from Amazon.com
Am glad to see the relief efforts are underway in AK
(with NO help from the sitting on her butt Gov.)
Been considering what to do about the AK State Legislature – I guess if I was a resident in AK – I would make sure that my legislature rep. knew and understood the consequences of where my future vote would be going if he/she did not bring forward a resolution to the abuse(s) of ANYONE in an elected office – including the Gov. That during her “campaign” she promised REFORM and ACCOUNTABILITY by elected officials – altho she was talking Washington DC – every state – including AK needs to begin a clean-up at the local level. Be it a state representative, mayor or city council member – each of us, in our own communities need to nip further abuses in the bud !!

I wandered greedy as a Palin
I wandered greedy as a Palin
That floats on high o’er snow and slush
When all at once I started wailin’,
And to my dogs I shouted mush
I may be fake and full of lies
The scales are staying o’er my eyes
Contemptuous is my policy slime
Fatuous is my simpering way
I need attention all the time
And sold my honour on Ebay
Ten thousand, that is not sufficient
To even make my lips efficient
I winked and waved and pranced, but they
Ousted my pranks with vicious glee
I only wanted things my way
For all to just defer to me
I’m crazed – my brain has little thought
What wealth the circus me had brought:
For oft, when on my throne I sit
In vacant or expensive mode,
I cast around the Palin pit
Our humble family abode
And then my heart with envy fills,
I need my oxycontin pills
LOVE it!! AKM

McBill indicated that more than one “veteran speechwriters outside the campaign” contributed to it on a “voluntary” basis. I think he then indicated that it had then been Palinized disguise the fact.

I don’t know, I had it on reliable authority that they’d actually hired someone from Outside to help write. And I think it’s been in the ADN that they’re using the Rural Advisor $ for PR stuff…

If her speech were all about the truth she wouldn’t need any help, she has enough PR help already. Obviously, the speech is meant to serve another purpose ….. and that should make great entertainment for non-Alaskans.
January 22nd, 2009 at 2:03 PM
For anyone wanting to put themselves through the entertainment/torture of listening to the SotS speech, it will be available through Gavel-To-Gavel this evening as a live stream: http://www.ktoo.org/gavel/schedule.cfm It starts at 7 pm, at which point there should be a live link to the Audio Stream. I think KTUU is also going to stream it: http://www.ktuu.com/ Click on the “Watch Sarah Palin Live” banner at the top of the page.
January 22nd, 2009 at 2:29 PM
McBill has a new word for them – “friendlies”. Maybe it’s Team Sarah!
He did say that, in addition to input from state officials, there were “friendlies on their own time” volunteering a hand in the first draft.
Who are they? Lower 48 political pros? Alaskans? Don’t know, McAllister said.
“It’s her speech,” McAllister said. “In fact my understanding is that she’s rewritten it significantly the last several days. I think she even makes some adjustments while she practices it.”
“makes some adjustments” is PR-speak for “she can’t say it the same way twice yet” there too also

Just a heads up, I emailed the Alaska Federation of Natives seeking info on whether or not they were willing to take a public stance on the issue of Emmonak and the more widespread crisis in the region. I just mailed them and it will probably take a while for someone to get back to me but I’m interested in what their feelings might be regarding the crisis. I know that everyone has to parse every word they write or say with something this politically sensitive, but I have a feeling that AFN has been following this story very closely.

There is so much gossip to share and it’s so easy to confound anyone, so, correct me if I’m wrong….
Didn’t whatz.er.name just issue an Energy Report? Actually it was a list of organizations helpful to approach for anyone who wants to begin a energy project. In other words, a Googled list…. That’s it, you take responsibility for beginning a green project and whatz,er.name will, naturally, yak — yes, yes, yak — credit for your success.
After all, look at what she did for the Alaskans. Yes, she published a nice thick, close to 200 pages, compendium of where you, you should go in order to complete your energy project….
….oh, please, please don’t tell me she’s on her way to DC.
….tears up and grimaces….stay home, go to the Artic…go away, go away….

I am writing a book (a spoof) – and yes Madam Palin is in it along with Bush and cronies (and lots of other issues). The thing is with her is the truth is more farcical than anything I could make up.
I just watched half of her speech to the state of Alaska – she sounds like she’s still doing stump speeches – I wonder what that could be about (tongue firmly in cheek)? And I noted Trig is NOT wearing the “cute glasses” she claimed yesterday – perhaps he only needs them for reading.
And her hair looked bloody awful – hey, my hair looks awful but I’m not on TV.
A bit OT but I am also following Audrey’s blog and a couple of posters made some very astute points:
No normal “lordosis of pregnancy” (that curvature of the spine) I am tall and slim and didn’t show much due to both my pregnancies being LOP – their spines and by inference their bodies were kind of tucked under my ribacage.. but I still did the pregnant “posture ting”.
Palin couldn’t do the fake belly thing with airport security hence the Alaskan Airlines staff not “noticing” she was preggers.
Just sayin’
