Bedtime in Alaska – Daily Wrap Up.

24 01 2009

What an enjoyable evening!  I got to see an outstanding performance of The Capitol Steps tonight at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. The house was packed and the audience was very appreciative.   I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.  Check out their website at www.capsteps.com and definitely be sure to take in a show if they come to your area.  Mudflatter Bari Biern was a suPERB Sarah Palin!  But one of my favorite moments was when she thanked Alaska for providing them with such great material.  I have to admit, we’ve got some pretty good comedic gold up here.  It made me feel better.

Dennis Zaki is home! – Got to see Dennis this evening.  He’s back from Emmonak with many stories, some great footage, and interviews from his trip.  He looked pretty beat after putting in multiple very long days but he’s fired up to keep helping these rural villages.  I’ll fill you in more after he’s had time to regroup.  The footage I did see was really great.  And Emmonak is full of some pretty cute kids, I have to say.   Thanks to everyone from the Mudflats community who sent donations to Dennis to help him on his way!

Sarah Palin’s Wink – Yes, I’m still amazed at our winky governor.  I thought I’d seen the last of the winking after the vice presidential debate, but alas.  There it was again in the state of the state address.  And this got me to wondering about something.  I’d like your take on it.

Speaking of Palin’s wink…man, am I glad I don’t have to design stuff looking at HER face anymore! Lets keep it that way, ok? Oust the woman!

I just finished my newest poster of 72 newspaper front pages from all 50 states reporting Obama’s Inauguration day. All the emotional pictures – I cried through most of the design process!

I wasn’t going to sleep until I finished it and ordered one for myself. It was so, so fun to see all the front pages up close. I even found Oprah and Elizabeth Kucinich in the crowd!

It’s here if you want to check it out: Obama Inauguration Newspaper Poster.

The Sarah winkin’ (and not blinkin’) and bizarre hand motions have been bothering me for a while–and now I know why. There are a few Bible scriptural references to eye winks. Check out Proverbs 6:13 and 10:10. Read in context.

‘Splains it all. I feel better now.

Good morning to all, and thank you AKM for keeping the world up to date on the amazing Alaskans who laugh in spite of waz.er.name.

Did she wear the red leather jacket giving her toxic speech? Wasn’t that paid for by donors, ahem, to the rnc?

Speaking of the clothes, have you all heard they still haven’t been turned over to charity? They’re supposedly sitting in a big old black plastic garbage bag at the RNC headquarters.

As an outsider looking in, I have a suggestion for Sarah Palin, who as an individual I have nothing against. She is a mother and from a mother to a mother I was wondering if she reads this, if she would put herself in others’ shoes in regards to the Native villages crisis. It’s all good to address Alaskans about exercise and good healthy living practice, but many develop diabetes, heart disease, obesity, etc. by virtue of genetics. Thankfully, some of our children are healthy, but not everyone is as fortunate.

For those who are in a crisis in Emmonak, they are less fortunate indeed. I would pray that Gov. Palin, as a self-professed christian who is waiting on God to open doors for her and her family, that she understand that when a parent who can’t afford heat or food for their small children (regardless of how they got in the predicament) they too are waiting on God to open doors. Does the Governor remember “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, and Love your Neighbor as Yourself.

My spiritual experience has brought me to a place than when I am sick, ill, or chronically suffering without any family support structure, I don’t have the bodily energy to ask for help. When there is no one to rely on, I too ask God to open a door. Usually, within days, people open themselves up and are like angels, offering help, and I’ve seen how communities really come together when isolated areas are affected with food shortages, or sick elderly need medications and can’t afford food, because life-needing meds cost too much. Seems like not one word of hope from the Administration to promise immediate relief to these, who also deserve God’s blessing. How can a woman who has the “control” and who is a maverick, a pitbull, go to bed when she knows people, children, babies, in her constituency may be going to bed hungry.

We’re living in a time when people are looking for leaders with compassion.
That’s the key, compassion, empathy, love, charity. These virtues could be implemented right now, if people in leadership would barge through the red-tape and offer a solution immediately. This is my 2 cents worth for today.

Anyway you look at it, winky is NOT GOOD!!! Obviously she doesn’t read it, the bible…

He that {e} winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a {f} prating fool shall fall.

    (e) That bears a fair countenance and imagines mischief in his heart, as in Pr 6:13.

    (f) For the corruption of his heart is known by his talk.

10:10 Winketh – That secretly designs mischief against others, as this phrase is used, Psal 35:19.

    Rebekkah,
You are a beautiful spiritual compassionate person. Gov. grifter and her right wing friends are not. Any of the SP sites that dared to mention Emmonak were cruel, “why bailout those people” “where will it end” blah, blah, blah! I spent a good amount of time trying to get them to THINK about it, then one called me a troll from celtic diva!
Yet, Newt Gingrich sends me a flyer about “how the LEFT is going to remove god from the square” (???) and to send him $35,$50 + These people are full of idiocy not compassion.
Not one word on the State of Alaska site about Emmonak, just about Salacious gossip about her, and nothing on Wasilla church site either. Another SP site who was a troll here, is soliciting gifts for Bristol’s baby and money for wasilla bible church on her SP website! But derisively calls help to Emmonak bailout? This people have absolutely no sense of compassion or God.
    See above proverbs 10:10
    They are SOULESS

I would love to know how much money was raised for Emmonak by this blog. I know I called and put my donation on my credit card, and explained I read about their situation here at Mudflats. Any idea how much money they got this way?

It’s difficult to say. I know it’s in the thousands, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess. I don’t think they were keeping track on the other end. But I do know that this community has really made a difference in people’s lives in a very tangible way. Love you guys.

There is no wat that Sarah would even make it anywhere except Alaska. They are so far behind, and yes-this does bother me when she winks.

As you can see there are many who support her to the point of spending thousands. When we were younger, we used to do crazy things in order to get things like,,, c.d’s from our favorite singer, but we were children. So It makes me wonder why an adult would do such a thing.

I wanted to find my old bible and send Sarah a message and use nothing but the bible, but from what I know (my father was a preacher) not everyone who claims to be christian actually know “God”. But, I put away my bible because I didnt want to become like her, and sadly there are many like her up there.

Unfortunately for the people she is supposed to govern. It still bothers me, that she along with others criticize first, when people step up, i.e. accusing those who helped the people in Emmonak as “scammers”. The only scam I see is her in office and her husband, getting away with issues of troopergate. Not one mention in this of all these issues. Her words still seem empty to me.

Once again, I must ask you (and others) not to generalize about Alaskans. Sure, there are unenlightened ones in every state. I know you don’t mean mudpuppies are ’so far behind’ but……I might say that Alaskans, let’s say the ‘progressive’ ones, are rather ’so far ahead’ but, I won’t say that. Scuse me for being sensitive to this; let’s maybe agree that those who are blinded to her ways are perhaps “behind” in perceiving Truth, and there are those folks in every state. OK?
