SarahPAC? Let the Games Begin!
27 01 2009Guess what just flowed down the “tubes” today and landed with a big splat? SarahPAC!
That’s right, her very own political action committee. If you are a late night talk show host, or a progressive blogger, you may begin high-fiving those around you at any time. Get ready for zany presidential hijinks in 2012. The PAC is the first step to a Palin candidacy, just ask the folks at HillPAC.
And before I go on, what’s with the first name? Hillary, I can understand. ClintonPAC would have made it difficult for her to separate herself from a previous administration, and be her own person. OK. I can see that. But SarahPAC? What’s wrong with PalinPAC? A little too….official sounding? We didn’t have BarackPAC or JoePAC. Is she trying to actually be taken LESS seriously? Or is she just trying to “brand” the name and be “Sarah“…like Cher…or Beyonce?
But given that this is the name the best minds on the case apparently think has all the clout and gravitas that will get her residence changed to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., let’s check out the mission of this new PAC.
Dedicated to building America’s future, supporting fresh ideas and candidates who share our vision for reform and innovation.
SarahPAC believes America’s best days are ahead. Our country, founded on conservative principles and the fight for freedom, must confront the challenges of the 21st century with integrity, innovation, and determination.
SarahPAC believes energy independence is a cornerstone of the economic security and progress that every American family wants and deserves.
SarahPAC believes the Republican Party is at the threshold of an historic renaissance that will build a better future for all. Health care, education, and reform of government are among our key goals. Join us today!
My favorite line is “SarahPAC believes the Republican Party is at the threshold of an historic renaissance that will build a better future for all.” Yeah. I think SarahPAC needs to get out more.
I’m just not feeling “Republican Renaissance” here. MudPAC thinks that the Republican Party had better take stock before it becomes the new “Whigs”.
I’ve enjoyed myself immensely looking into my hypothetical crystal ball, and imagining the Republican primaries, and what any serious, intelligent, studied candidate will do to Sarah Palin. Then, on the off chance she wins the party nomination, I’m imagining the presidential debates between Obama the incumbent, and Palin.
I shall not be complacent, don’t get me wrong. I will not put my feet up and eat bon bons, nor should anyone else who has felt a renewed sense of purpose for this country, and a return to the ideals that made us great. But, President Palin? From a country that just elected Barack Obama? I’m just not seeing it.
All this PAC stuff does raise an interesting question. What’s the ’strategery’? We know her goal, and there are many paths to that place. Which will she choose? Will she be able to defeat Lisa Murkowski? Don Young? Bob Poe or some other Republican or Democratic challenger? Will she literally “take the money and run?”
What’s your take?

January 27th, 2009 at 4:38 PM
Another thing I can see with this PAC is a way for her to gather email addresses for her 2012 run. She saw what President Obama did by using the internet and she needs to build a base of email addresses to get her message out as well as to beg for money.
Just another thought about the intentions of this serial criminal politician.

This insanity could all be stopped if you guys up in Alaska get up and STAND UP AGAINST HER!
IMPEACH her for non-performance of her job.
Give her a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Alaskans: DO YOUR JOB AND GET RID OF HER, before she gets too big for her bridges (sic) and tries to go even higher!!!
PLEASE, I IMPLORE YOU GUYS – on my knees, from the bottom of my heart!!!

Did anyone else check out the Privacy Policy on SarahPAC? Scary stuff. This paragraph particularly troubles me:
“When you visit our site, we collect the following information: The name of the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account). The date and time you access our site. The Internet address of the web site from which you linked directly to our site or the Internet address of the computer used to link to our site. This information is used for Site Management purposes only.”
I propose AKM posts a link to SarahPAC on Mudflats so we can click away each time we visit the flats. ( Hell, we all clicked on the link already–the damage is done.) Then, when Sarah gets her reports from her “Site Management” expert, she can revel in the fact that all of us pathetic bloggers who visit her site (via Mudflats) on a regular basis will NEVER reveal our personal information nor donate a dime. How bad would this burn Sarahs rump? Imagine her site getting all those hits from all of us visting our beloved Mudflats, over and over again.

For womanwithsardinecan (15:08:01)…
baptistforbrown2008 @ wordpress dot com is for real. Don’t you just love the blogroll on the left side?….OMG.
——————-
For everybody, but in particular crystalwolf a.k.a. caligrl (14:34:27)….
I found this over on <a href=”http://www.conservatives4palin.com/”Conservatives4Palin.com, which is a veritable MINE of insider information and fanboy/girl drooling. Some of the stuff they write over there, though, seems almost counterproductive…
Anyway, take a look at what they linked to over there: Q & A: Former McCain Blogger Michael Goldfarb
“Michael Goldfarb was the McCain campaign’s deputy communications director-cum-media bodyguard, tasked by McCain’s high command with bullying the press into covering things the “right” way. It’s a role Goldfarb, a reporter and blogger himself, played with gusto—so much so that he generated controversy and became part of the storyline himself on occasion.
Now back at The Weekly Standard, he talked to Kate Klonick about the campaign’s flirtation with punishing The New York Times, the decision to pick Sarah Palin, and that memorable interview on CNN.”
There’s more, much more — well worth reading.

There’s also a very funny blog-post on DailyKOS about “AlsoPAC”….scroll the page a bit, it’s the second one down right now…

Speaking of DailyKOS — I’m still reading over there — there’s a blog-post over there by kos himself from earlier today — keeping the news about the rural village situation alive:

Remind me not to move to rural Alaska.
Update: Oops, we broke Mudflats. Here’s a link to the Google cache to give our Alaskan friend a break.
Update II: The text-only cached version works, as a last resort.
And when Mudflats comes back up, I’m dropping them some coin so they can get a better hosting package.

I’ve looked at the Baptists for Brown (Republican Faith Chat) site too, and I’m about 85% convinced it is a hoax, but a brilliant one. It was the blogroll that convinced me.
I was going to point out that some of the sites are known or obvious hoaxes and satire, Blogs 4 Brownback, Jesus’ General (nobody would seriously fall for his obvious heavy-handedness). Dominionists for Tacredo — which was cross linked from another site as well — and the site proposing David Duke as McCain’s runningmate.
But then I found the proof that makes me 100% sure. “Prophetess Debbie” is mentioned several times as a guide in the original site. I clicked on “No Sin Zone” which included a guest message from the Prophetess and saw
“Allow me to introduce Prophetess Debbie, who goes to my church, Landover Baptist.”
Landover Baptist is a well-known satirical site.
HOAX! but a wonderful one. I may spend days on some of the links on the blogroll. The introduction to the Prophetess reads as follows:
“Frankly, I became so utterly vexed with my Savior (and that dreadful hick from Alaska) pestering me while I shopped at Neiman-Marcus (it was nothing short of salvation stalking!), I hired Prophetess Debbie to act as a go-between, at least until I’ve finished my holiday shopping. In this way, I will treat my Debbie as the Catholics treat their Mary, as a glorified gofer to take messages to the Lord. A word of warning: Prophetess Debbie tends to speak with unseemly candor. She fails to couch her Republican thoughts in the politically correct, focus-group tested phrases that more sophisticated, savvy right-wing Christians — me! — instinctively employ. In other words, she says thing publicly that are best left behind thick church doors. But please bear with me: There really isn’t a wide selection when it comes to Baptist prophetesses this late in the season!”
DEE-lightful

Omigawd, those people are even more vicious (and crazy) than SP’s supporters! I’ve never heard things like that come out of the mouths of real Christians – in my life! Good God.
I mean, there is vicious, then there’s downright hateful (as in full of hatred). Yikes.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:07 PM
I truly hope that the site is a satire,if not they are the most hateful people ever.It was the blogroll that had me thinking it was for real, too.

On the hoax…..I’m glad I’m wrong….because it IS hilarious. The tit-for-tat in the comments section under the original blog post was great.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:11 PM
Okay, I have to do this…
Can we know officially call SP a PAC-rat?
After all, she seems to accumulate things (not her own she claims many times), yet can’t seem to find a darn thing when asked for it…
January 27th, 2009 at 6:12 PM
I should explain “great” — great as in “watching a baseball brawl between two teams you hate”…
January 27th, 2009 at 6:24 PM
I shudder at all the uninformed racists who love her, but she is not “new” anymore. We have heard about field dressing a moose and how she can shoot a gun, yada yada….so what NEW ideas will she have to offer?
From what I can see, she STILL hasn’t gotten around to any actual accomplishments in ANY job she has had. What will she have to show for herself by 2010?
And others are correct, this time, she will have to speak in complete sentences as the media is not going to pamper her and let her get away with never answering a question. The rules will be different when she is not just a novelty with a new DS baby. (what will she invent for next time? )
And the fundies love her, but Huckabee is vicious and Romney really really wants this and he is personally rich. She is not going to just walk away with it.
Although, she may be the only one stupid enough to run against Obama, if he is doing well by then. She will be their sacrificial lamb.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:26 PM
I’m sure that site is satire. I’ve been to Landover Baptist many times, which is hilarious but a little less covertly satirical than Republican Faith Chat (WWJD thong for sale among other things, as well as the real estate agent with houses to sell near the church). Prophetess Debbie is a delightful character. lol.

Dipshits for PalinPAC. Congratulations. Snark from me after a long day.

AZ Mom (15:00:57) :
“SarahPAC believes the Republican Party is at the threshold of an historic renaissance that will build a better future for all. ”
My issue is the use of “an” before “historic”. I’m not an English major or anything, but shouldn’t it be “a historic” – “an” is used when in front of words beginning with a vowel, correct?
Not a big deal, just one of those things that sort of makes me cranky.
————————————————————
AZ Mom, “an historic” is correct. There are not many instances left where it’s appropriate to use “an” before a word commencing with “h” – “an hotel” is just about dead. I would imagine the practice may be from a time or place in England when (formally or otherwise) the letter “h” was silent.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:35 PM
AKM…Seems like SarahPac is for political gain and I wonder if it would be ethical for the govenor to participate in such activity…since it would distract from the job at hand. Just wondering…
January 27th, 2009 at 6:37 PM
She can start all the PACs she wants…Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are waiting to show her what happens when the pretty girl brings a snowmobile to a gunfight.
The GOP is still the retrograde party and there’s no way they will let a woman be a leader (unless she’s the sacrificial lamb)– no matter how much she appeals to their horny selves.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:46 PM
She must be stopped. Hoist with her own petard, as Shakespeare would put it. The Legislators and the Alaskan media should go after her for these out of town trips when there is a crisis in rural Alaska. Perhaps we should contact CNN and MSNBC about her little political jaunts.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:48 PM
OFCS! YJCMTSU!
Well, fine then. Sarah can be the comic relief for the next 8 years while the grown ups deal with the reality of the serious problems our country, and indeed the world are facing.
We dodged that bullet. Are we really stupid enough in this country to let her reload?
January 27th, 2009 at 7:07 PM
Oh, really Sarah? This is what you think … “must confront the challenges of the 21st century with integrity, innovation, and determination”?
Well, why don’t you step up to the plate and confront the challenges of real 21st century people right there in your own state. Why wait? Use all that “integrity, innovation and determination” and figure out a way to get food and fuel to the people living in your own state.
This woman infuriates me.

I’m not sure she’s looking to run for Pres in 2012, but rather 2016. I just don’t see her taking on Obama again, especially if he has a successful term. She’ll probably run for Gov or even the Senate- hang out in DC for a while, then make her move.
I’m just praying all this SarahsixPac stuff is for naught and when we vote her out in 2010 she’ll just go away. I don’t see her coming back in 2012 at that point because she’ll be 2 years out of sight, out of mind at that point.
January 27th, 2009 at 10:24 PM

we saw this this morning… per phone call with FEC earlier today, it is not an official filling from Palin. It’s actually a placeholder FEC set up to allow it to link records to the “2012 draft sarah committee” out of Colorado. Some internal FEC record managment thing…

Ok, this homepage http://www.sarahpac.com/ for SarahPac is just buggin’ me. Leave aside the primary Jolly Green Giant photo of SP styled up in her RNC jacket, and look at the odd assortment of miscellaneous visuals:
– Not a word about Alaska in the text, but backdrop of a pristine mountain range (forgive lower-48 ignorance, I don’t know which one) straight out of the Sierra Club. Is that a potential drilling site? Is there some subliminal message in the “twin peaks” on the right?
–The logo featuring the State of Alaska plopped onto the continental US is odd. My first thought is where’s Hawaii (maybe they don’t get to be on the logo because they’re too Obama-y)? Second, it feels like a dominance thing: look how big my state is, we can take out your daylight from Nevada to Louisiana. Third, since the color chosen for Alaska is the same as the sky, it looks like negative space, as if that’s an Alaska-shaped hole punched into the map. In any case the overlay of Alaska looks out of place, aggressive at best, “I’m pushing thru the door for 2012.”
–What’s with the clumsy blurred photoshopping of the olive background? Is the color a nod to the troops like her silver bracelet? Surely it’s unintentional, but Sarah Palin photoshopped below the waist reminds this observer of the numerous pregnancy controversy(ies).
–and is the email/signup area just cut-and-pasted from the Obama campaign site? They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…
Textually, not a word about record or experience — mere cult of personality. The FAQ (”who is SarahPAC” for example) answers are so vague as to seem deliberately avoidant.
Stopping now, there is more to do today than snark about SP!

Serious question: Who’s Pam Pryor?
One answer: Pam Pryor, “vice president of government relations for We Care America – a non-profit formed around the faith and community-based initiative. In that capacity, she unites faith and community groups with government through the faith and community-based initiative in grant writing and introductions to government agencies and Congress. She has hosted the state directors of the faith and community-based office three times as well as does training for the Compassion Capitol Fund grant that We Care America received.”
The good ol’ UK Guardian has this story that just appeared an hour ago.
Excerpt:
“Alaska governor Sarah Palin opened a political action committee yesterday, a move that may not outright confirm her intentions of running for US president in 2012 but indicates she intends to remain a regular on the national political stage.
SarahPac, which will raise money online at sarahpac.com, was registered on Monday night with the US Federal Election Commission. The website went live yesterday, said Pam Pryor, who worked as a liaison between the McCain-Palin presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee.
Now Pryor is serving as a volunteer spokeswoman for the new political action committee.
The goal of the committee, according to its website, is to “make it possible for Governor Palin to continue to be a strong voice for energy independence and reform. … SarahPac will support local and national candidates who share Governor Palin’s ideas and goals for our country.”
But it also allows Palin to more easily differentiate between her political activity and her gubernatorial duties, Pryor said. She can use the money raised by the political committee to donate to other like-minded candidates or to incur travel expenses on behalf of them. She also can use it to pay for her own political activities unrelated to her official job.”

Sounds socialist to me! Repub Welfare! What does she do with her money she gets from her “job”? And “The Family” permanent checks? Shouldn’t she be able to afford to do these things, or not do them? Why should we give her money to do this? Does anyone give us money so we can Jet around and attend high priced meals and stay in Luxury hotels? Or give to the candidates of our choice? No. If we can’t afford it we can’t do it. NO Welfare for Barbie!

The dude who put her name up for president on the FEC site in November is the director of Connecticut Citizens for Immigration Control. That would be a very small group; we Connecticuties are not racist!
