SarahPAC? Let the Games Begin!
Guess what just flowed down the “tubes” today and landed with a big splat? SarahPAC!
That’s right, her very own political action committee. If you are a late night talk show host, or a progressive blogger, you may begin high-fiving those around you at any time. Get ready for zany presidential hijinks in 2012. The PAC is the first step to a Palin candidacy, just ask the folks at HillPAC.
And before I go on, what’s with the first name? Hillary, I can understand. ClintonPAC would have made it difficult for her to separate herself from a previous administration, and be her own person. OK. I can see that. But SarahPAC? What’s wrong with PalinPAC? A little too….official sounding? We didn’t have BarackPAC or JoePAC. Is she trying to actually be taken LESS seriously? Or is she just trying to “brand” the name and be “Sarah“…like Cher…or Beyonce?
But given that this is the name the best minds on the case apparently think has all the clout and gravitas that will get her residence changed to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., let’s check out the mission of this new PAC.

I’m just not feeling “Republican Renaissance” here. MudPAC thinks that the Republican Party had better take stock before it becomes the new “Whigs”.
I’ve enjoyed myself immensely looking into my hypothetical crystal ball, and imagining the Republican primaries, and what any serious, intelligent, studied candidate will do to Sarah Palin. Then, on the off chance she wins the party nomination, I’m imagining the presidential debates between Obama the incumbent, and Palin.
I shall not be complacent, don’t get me wrong. I will not put my feet up and eat bon bons, nor should anyone else who has felt a renewed sense of purpose for this country, and a return to the ideals that made us great. But, President Palin? From a country that just elected Barack Obama? I’m just not seeing it.
All this PAC stuff does raise an interesting question. What’s the ‘strategery’? We know her goal, and there are many paths to that place. Which will she choose? Will she be able to defeat Lisa Murkowski? Don Young? Bob Poe or some other Republican or Democratic challenger? Will she literally “take the money and run?”

I really think she is trying to make a run for President in 2012. However everyone should keep track of any money that comes into her PAC. Now you see it now you don’t seems to be a great strategy for her.
Republican Renaissance! Laugh Snort! I know she did not write that herself! If and that is a big IF the repubs get re-elected in 2012 it will be back to the middle ages for the rest of us.
I see her as the jewel of the NAR. It is their stated purpose to infiltrate government with their candidates and initiate reform from within. The NAR has been touted as the fastest growing religious movement in the US. I find the notion that our country could be taken over by self-serving zealots terrifying in the extreme.

I think she has higher aspirations and can’t wait to get her foot in the door, probably with a Senate seat. This pac is just a cover for her personal political spending account. She will use it to travel around the country supporting Repug candidates and programs to get more publicity for herself. Probably take some public speaking courses and hire a stylist.
This should provide a challenge to the Republican party. It should start positioning for 2016 by cleaning up the grass roots. Don’t let a vocal minority take over. Do you really believe a woman who wore a vote Democrat (covered with donkeys) scarf when she was running on the Republican national ticket is someone who can do anything for the party?
Of course she’s using only her first name. She wants all the lonely people out there to think she’s their best friend. Just watch her friends tumble under the bus.

I DO however have a HUGE file going of all the crap neocons are STILL sending out about Obama because when she tries to make her run again…we will need to remind people the things she has said or positions she has taken. (Ya know, like trying to start riots!)

If she did happen to win Gov again in 2010, it would be too difficult for her to spend enough time campaigning for 2012 Pres election and keep up her work as Governor. Both the Legislature and AK residents would slam her any time she missed work to promote her nat’l campaign efforts. She would truly be under a microscope regarding her use of any state personnel or resources pertaining to her campaign. I don’t believe that she’d be able to do both so I just don’t see her running for Gov in 2010.
I can’t see her winning the GOP primary in a bid against Lisa Murkowski, as Lisa is becoming a real force in the Senate due to her latest appointment to the Senate Appropriations Committee, Ted Stevens old seat. The gives her real power and I don’t think Alaskans want to risk losing the seniority and power that Lisa M has built up.
I believe that 2010-2012 will see Sarah place herself fully in the nat’l spotlight and use the funds from SarahPac to travel the country promoting herself for 2012. I personally hope she does get the nod and runs, as it will almost certainly insure a win for the Dems again in 2012.

She is averse to actual work. If you weigh yapping at Faux News and haranguing her supporters on an endless book tour against the obligations involved in the senate or congress there is no contest.
The fun part will be the next two years. How much support can she hold on to when there is no election at stake, especially one with a black opponent?

It’s not like she spends alot of time governing right now, anyway, so campaigning from 2010 to 2012 won’t be a problem. She scares me.
I couldn’t pick one of the choices because I can’t actually see Sarah doing much of anything besides putting on makeup, using a lint brush on her jacket, and polishing her toenails. Even writing a book requires persistent work, and what is there to tell that she’s willing to tell?
Running for a “lesser” office like congressperson or Senator, were she to succeed, would mean even more work. It would mean showing up at the Capitol building and traveling back and forth from DC to Alaska on her own dime. It would mean groveling before greater politicians and suffering through newbie-ship. I just don’t see her swallowing all that. Not to mention that if she tried and failed to get elected, that would pretty much seal her fate. Non-electable.
As for a second term governorship, I have a feeling that if she runs, she’ll have a very tough campaign. People have gotten to know her, and the ghosts of Emmonak and the pipeline-that-ain’t-gonna-happen will haunt her. The turkey slaughter, Tina Fey, and Katie Couric videos will be rerun endlessly. Her gradeschool giggles during the Sarkozy spoof will echo from Bristol Bay to Wainwright. If only the AK legislature would find the will to get at the truth in Troopergate…
She needs someone to really support her, in the manner to which she became accustomed during her whirlwind 2-month VP bid. There may be a few thousand Palinbots out there, but she’ll drain their reserves pretty quickly. SarahPAC indeed. I wish them luck.
She is arrogant enough to think she can beat Murkowski in 2010. I think this lady is so into the national scene, she just cannot bear the thought of having to stay in Alaska, and heaven forbid, WORK. I just went to SarahPac. All you do is read her profile and Frequently Asked Questions, and donate. Is she the whole Pac? There are no other people listed. Does the money go directly to her? Is she in charge of accounting for the money? Is this how Pacs work?
I would think before you could be a Pac, you would need others to Pac around with. Who else is behind/in charge of this Pac? That is the question I want answered. I would never send any money, but it appears to me that if you sent money it would be like sending it out into the ether with no idea of how it would be used or by whom.
InterestedPerson – strange, I was saying EXACTLY the same thing somewhere else. The Team Sarah/Hitler Youth contingent is something to keep an eye on. I know some of them and she’s really lit a fire under their rear ends. The high school ones will be of voting age in 2012. Let’s hope a lot happens to them in the next 2-3 years so they grow up in time for the next election.
Republicans wasted no time in “throwing her under the bus” right after the elections and I believe they are going to get even more ruthless the higher the stakes go and the further she pushes it.

I did vote, but I truely think her plan is, a 2012 run, and if that doesn’t work, the first femal Grand Wizard. I think she’d be excellent at the later.

Hello from Indiana where it is now snowing and blowing – we must have at least 2″ on the ground and that means they’ll cancel everything tomorrow. I’ve been reading The Mudflats since August. Your Governor is intriguing in that she likes to talk about conservative values when (at least it seems to me) she can’t even impress upon her kids the importance of staying out of trouble and finishing high school. I personally have a hard time valuing the opinion of hypocrites like her. Notwithstanding her janus-faced approach to life and politics which appear to cause her no inward reflection, I can hardly wait for her to get back in the limelight so she can go toe to toe with those intellectual giants like Katie Couric who riddled her to shreds with tough, probing questions like, “what do you read.” Anyway, a few of us in Indiana enjoy the Mudflats as well as the comments to the stories- which confirm my belief that contrary to the impression left by your Governor, Alaska is filled with smart, articulate and thoughtful people – and I’m looking forward to the time I can get up there and meet all of you fine folks, also too.

I got queasy when I heard this news. She is pitting rural Alaska against urban Alaska with energy issues. Wow, the Alfalfa Club dinner just happens to come at the same time as the RNC (Republican National Committee) Winter meeting. Could our Governor possibly have a dual purpose for traveling to DC at this particular time? If she is attending the RNC meeting I just hope that she hasn’t taken time off work to do it and is indeed not leaving the state to travel to DC until the last weekly session of our Legislature is concluded sometime in the afternoon on on Friday 1/30. I looked at Gavel to Gavel and the only Leg meeting scheduled for Friday 1/30 begins at 9:00am and that’s it until Monday 2/2 when they reconvene although the schedule seems not to have been published yet for 2/2.

This PAC is in direct response to the the ethics compaints filed by Andree MacLeod. There was never any doubt of what Sarah’s political aspirations entailed. Her problem now becomes 2010. The latest polls show that she would likely lose and lose big to Lisa Murkowski in a Senate race. A loss of that kind would certainly derail any 2012 presidential aspirations. If she continues to roam the country to campaign for other candidates, the state will surely tire of having a part-time governor and she will risk losing even that position.
I know I’m smiling ear to ear about this.
All very interesting, and lots of funny comments. I love the JoeSixPAC idea. Personally, for Alaska’s sake, I hope she does not remain in office there for long. But for our country’s sake, I hope she does run for president, because she won’t win. Republicans will win eventually, at some point, but I think the public has spoken with respect to her, and her stock is not improving.

Now her push for those windfarms out in rural AK makes more sense. Part of that GOP renaissance. Hopes that by pushing that she will appeal to nasty liberals who love alternative energy. How does that work alongside “drill baby drill?” Everything she says/does you have to wonder what’s in it for her — now we know why she all of the sudden has some love for the windfarms that were pushed last year by the legislature, and undoubtedly scorned by her back then. I would love to see those windfarms, but wonder how aggressively they will be pursued, since all she needs to do is say that she is for them — without following up on them — to add them to her fantasy-based resume.
Hope that AK makes it thru her tenure as Gov. It is as desperately in need of a rewind button as the US was due to the Bush years.

In Queensland (Australia) some decades back we had a Joh for PM (Prime Minister) campaign which gave us a lot of entertainment. Joh Bjelke-Petersen spoke a mangled form of English and had a questionable background to say the least (I wish the internet had been around then). There are quite a few other parallels with the Palin phenomenon.
Just on the weekend we saw a “Joh for PM” t-shirt in the Queensland museum so I say enjoy the ride and keep some of the merchandise for posterity.
It is scary to think Palin is having a go at building up support from certain elements in your country so it’s not a time to rest on your laurels.

Did anyone else check out the Privacy Policy on SarahPAC? Scary stuff. This paragraph particularly troubles me:

I’ve looked at the Baptists for Brown (Republican Faith Chat) site too, and I’m about 85% convinced it is a hoax, but a brilliant one. It was the blogroll that convinced me.
I was going to point out that some of the sites are known or obvious hoaxes and satire, Blogs 4 Brownback, Jesus’ General (nobody would seriously fall for his obvious heavy-handedness). Dominionists for Tacredo — which was cross linked from another site as well — and the site proposing David Duke as McCain’s runningmate.
But then I found the proof that makes me 100% sure. “Prophetess Debbie” is mentioned several times as a guide in the original site. I clicked on “No Sin Zone” which included a guest message from the Prophetess and saw
“Allow me to introduce Prophetess Debbie, who goes to my church, Landover Baptist.”
Landover Baptist is a well-known satirical site.
HOAX! but a wonderful one. I may spend days on some of the links on the blogroll. The introduction to the Prophetess reads as follows:
“Frankly, I became so utterly vexed with my Savior (and that dreadful hick from Alaska) pestering me while I shopped at Neiman-Marcus (it was nothing short of salvation stalking!), I hired Prophetess Debbie to act as a go-between, at least until I’ve finished my holiday shopping. AZ Mom, “an historic” is correct. There are not many instances left where it’s appropriate to use “an” before a word commencing with “h” – “an hotel” is just about dead. I would imagine the practice may be from a time or place in England when (formally or otherwise) the letter “h” was silent.

I’m not sure she’s looking to run for Pres in 2012, but rather 2016. I just don’t see her taking on Obama again, especially if he has a successful term. She’ll probably run for Gov or even the Senate- hang out in DC for a while, then make her move.
I’m just praying all this SarahsixPac stuff is for naught and when we vote her out in 2010 she’ll just go away. I don’t see her coming back in 2012 at that point because she’ll be 2 years out of sight, out of mind at that point.

– Not a word about Alaska in the text, but backdrop of a pristine mountain range (forgive lower-48 ignorance, I don’t know which one) straight out of the Sierra Club. Is that a potential drilling site? Is there some subliminal message in the “twin peaks” on the right?
–The logo featuring the State of Alaska plopped onto the continental US is odd. My first thought is where’s Hawaii (maybe they don’t get to be on the logo because they’re too Obama-y)? Second, it feels like a dominance thing: look how big my state is, we can take out your daylight from Nevada to Louisiana. Third, since the color chosen for Alaska is the same as the sky, it looks like negative space, as if that’s an Alaska-shaped hole punched into the map. In any case the overlay of Alaska looks out of place, aggressive at best, “I’m pushing thru the door for 2012.”
