For Murkowski, Holding on May Be as Easy as 1, 2, 3.

28 01 2009

door-lock

Alaska’s Senior Senator Lisa Murkowski has had a busy couple of weeks.  She’s added three new lines to her resume.

  1. Top Ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee
  2. Plum spot on Senate Appropriations Committee
  3. And now….The Senate Republican Leadership Team

Numbers 1 and 2 mean that Murkowski is in a nice spot to direct projects and dollars to Alaska.  Uh oh.  She better not tell Governor Palin before she does it, or we could have a fight on our hands.  Palin doesn’t want any of that green stuff contaminating her state.  Thanks, but no thanks to economic benefit for Alaska.

Number 3 means that she is one of three people in this spot, whose function is to offer counsel and guidance to Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell.  As far as I’m concerned, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell needs all the help and guidance he can get.

McConnell praised Murkowski, who joined the Senate in 2002, and said she has “quickly ascended to leadership positions in both our caucus and in the Senate.”

So, if you add 1, 2 and 3, what do you get?  (Hint:  It’s not 6)  What you get is one more lock on the door that would lead Sarah Palin into the Senate in 2010.  So for those who are placing wagers, your odds have just changed.

Yup, I think Lisa’s feeling pretty comfortable about now.  And once again I ask, if you were a cabal of powerful Republicans in the Senate, and you really wanted Sarah Palin in there, would you be giving all these goodies to her arch rival for the seat?

I don’t think Palin cares about the Senate – methinks Palin will be content to finish out her term, lose the next Governor race and run for POTUS via the media (FOX only), book and a wink. Done with AK politics soon, onward to White House – in her itty bitty mind this will work.

Why Sarah Palin Has Launched Her New PAC, SarahPAC
    January 28, 2009 11:30 AM ET | Robert Schlesinger | Permanent Link | Print
By Robert Schlesinger, Thomas Jefferson Street blog

What can we deduce from SarahPAC, the new political action committee affiliated with the Alaska governor? That she’s not going to go quietly back to Land of the Midnight Sun. SarahPAC is a leadership PAC, a fairly common (the Center for Responsive Politics counted 340 of them in the last election cycle) vehicle for pols who want to play on a national stage. Obama had one, as did Hillary Clinton, and all of the leaders of both parties.

They serve two purposes: Leadership PACs give politicians a fund from which they can make contributions to candidates around the country, building political chits for down the line (a sure sign that Palin is gearing up specifically for a presidential run will be SarahPAC making contributions to New Hampshire and Iowa state-level candidates and parties); and the leadership PAC will also cover her expenses as she flies around the country fundraising and campaigning for Republicans, again stockpiling political chits.

Hmmmmm! Isn’t that quite “Socialist?” On all the stupid conservative blogs, when I tried to explain the NEED to help Villagers I was told, “they get there permanent fund check, isn’t that enough?” “Why should we bail them out” “then they will want $$ next year too” Yet, 2 days after PEO became PO I got a letter from Newt…asking for money for his PAC because they (us lefties) were trying to take god out of the square! And I have no fricken idea what he meant but he was soliciticing $! If we Help someone its a
“bailout” but yes lets all donate to Barbies PAC so she can fly all over???? WTF????
Sounds pretty socialist to me. What does she do with her money? Shouldn’t she be able to afford it herself? If not, well….then she shouldn’t go? Isn’t that the repub thinking?????
Oh, I see, that applies only to Dems, lefty’s etc. Its alright to bail out repubs, banks, wallstreet etc…..
    Pretty F-up……

    Lori in LA,

I think you are right. Palin is completely confident that her path is paved straight to the White House. She must truly believe that she no longer needs the good will of the people of Alaska. Now that she’s been in the national spotlight, surely her supporters are legion. What a phony beast.

    BigPete Says:

Most of the Republican candidates for 012 are running as Governors/Ex-Governors. Who needs a Senate voting record?

    1. Running as a one-term celebrity will only highlight her lack of achievements
    2. Losing a re-election for Governor will enhance her reputation as a loser
    3. Her ’shelf life’ will be way over by 016

So, basically, it’s now or never-as ‘wildly popular’ Governor.

I have a question for Alaskans… the Palinbots on various sites are screaming that Palin can’t legally help the Villages. She truly wants to help but cannot do a thing because, legally, their need has not risen to the required level of suffering (only in the mind of a conservative does this make sense.)

    What is up with this?

    Thanks.

There’s a quick summary on the political blog at ADN:

    http://community.adn.com/adn/node/137313

As usual, she’s all smoke and mirrors. She is so habituated to lying that it is part of her reality. The fans who support her don’t care about the same things most of us do here – they have no interest in ethics or truth, just pushing their sickly agenda down the throat of America. However – in the larger scheme of things – she’s damaged goods with way too much baggage. And she’ll be botoxing pretty regularly, if she’s not already. Problem is, I think they injected her too deep because it’s her brain that appears to be lacking any “muscle strength”.

    Two Alaska Catch 22s:

    1) I wrote a bumper sticker during the election “Can’t send her on, Don’t want her back!” Still fitting.

    2) She hired all these stupid spokespeople everywhere so she never addresses Alaskans anymore herself which I find hubristic (new word?) and disgusting. However, the alternative would be to have to listen to that awful voice of hers, blech!

I agree. She has to accomplish big things this term, and then she can skip running again, and catapult herself into the spotlight- or she gets catapulted into the Swamp of Has-Beens, never to be interviewed again by the national media.
(I have this image of loading Her Royal Media Personality into the catapult bucket, and all the mudpups doing a heave-ho on the rope…cranking it back farther and farther…letting go…)

I made so many different bumper stickers that I was practically on the floor laughing (which was a good thing because I HAD been crying). It was great therapy and I highly recommend it to anyone suffering from political shell shockiness. I passed them on to friends and family – the one I mentioned above was the general favorite and made us all feel better to have just SAID IT OUT LOUD.

(blushing) Well – I DO have a much better voice than SP so maybe I should consider this. Do I need more than a great voice? What will I wear? Dang – that could be a problem. I have tiny feet and I don’t think they make those sexy Naughty Monkey shoes in my size. There’s an idea right there! Lots of men have foot fetishes so to get their votes I could just go barefoot with trendy toenail polish. I’ve learned from Sarah that the way to get ahead in politics these days is SEX APPEAL, and nothing else! So let me work on that part of it and get back at ya!

The gas line legislation is her big accomplishment to date. It is her ticket to reelection. That’s why she’s putting all the stimulus projects into infrastructure for it. At present economics for the thing is looking more than a little shaky. She campaigned on having the thing under construction, so if it isn’t come election time she’s in trouble. She needs two at least two things: lots of construction loan money from washington to make it economically feasible and a successful open season next year. Without those, no gas line and she is dead in the water. she will also have to cut a deal with the producers on taxes but discussing that’s a seperate post in itself.

I think Palin might have to be re-elected as Governor! Considering that she lost as VP, one term as Governor might not be convincing enough-a bit too much of a fluke.
    Palin;
    1. Should pretend to have no presidential ambitions for 012.
    2. Once re-elected, run for POTUS ‘in the best interests of Alaska’.

Besides, if nothing comes of the gas-line, Palin can still avoid the subject by claiming to be ‘on the job’ as the current Governor.
