Obama Zings Palin at Alfalfa Club Dinner!

The answer to the above question (during the 90-day Legislative Session) is: Hobnobbing and rubbing elbows with the elite of the elite in Washington, D.C. First, she attended a private dinner at the home of GOP fundraiser and ne’er do well, Fred Malek on Friday night. Then, it was off to the exclusive Alfalfa Club Dinner on Saturday.
Reports are starting to trickle in from the Alfalfa Club Dinner. No press is allowed in to the event, so we must all rely on second-hand sources. Apparently the normal protocol for the dinner was all but abandoned as luminaries, dignitaries, politicos, and the elite of the elite lined up to fawn over our new president. And yes, Sarah was in line.
Even the well-heeled, well-tailored and well-connected members of the Alfalfa Club all but tripped over their patent leather shoes and floor-length gowns to get a moment Saturday night with the man who happens to be both the new president and world’s most buzzed-about living figure.
The dinner, which strangely celebrates the birthday of Robert E. Lee, also makes use of good natured ribbing, and a faux nomination of one of the attendees to run for the office of president of the United States. Who was this year’s nominee? No, it was NOT Sarah Palin. The honor, instead, went to high-powered attorney Vernon Jordan. Phew.
And….are you ready for it? Obama, in his speech, acknowledged our very own Sarah Palin.
To Palin, Obama expressed surprise to see her with such members of the Washington elite she railed against during the campaign. Or, as he termed it in language Palin is familiar with, “palling around with this crew.”
ZING! Yes, I’d have paid good money to be a fly on the wall for that one. Beautiful.

Humorously, Palin aids have said she “will limit her political activity until the Alaska legislative session ends in April.”
Except for dinner at Malek’s house. And the Alfalfa Club dinner. And her trip in a couple weeks to speak at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) conference. But other than THAT, she’ll definitely be limiting it.
I’m glad he took a jab at her, but I wonder at the same time if it is just better to ignore her. I can’t decide!!

I find it so interesting that Whiney Blamehouse is not doing the round of Sunday talk shows. That would be a perfect venue for her to talk about her energy credentials and what Alaska is doing for the rest of us, oil and gas wise.
She could negotiate that there be no talk about the ’12 presidential bid and wow us with her intelligent analysis of our energy crisis.

Hi all – I am not a frequent poster, but I do when I have something to contribute, and faithfully log on to this site the first thing daily. (Just to let you know I’m not a troll!)
I have always respected the manner in which AKM presented information to us: factual stuff, backed up by videos, pictures, printed matter with her own special brand of humor. I have lived in AK, have 2 sons and many friends there. This is what keeps me coming back.
Recently, though, there seems to be a mean-spirited slant to the postings. Terms like “Kissing Obama’s black ass”, and subsequently referring to SP’s brown nose, and the headboard-banging related to SP and Rush Limbaugh is really over the line, and beneath our dignity on this site. It only gives the other side fuel to point and quote this sort of left wing whacko blog. Please let’s keep the meanness out of here.

Well thanks. Good thing you can’t hear what I say about her in the privacy of my own home. Things do occasionally get a bit coarse here (good way to put it UK lady). I tend to just skim over those posts I guess. I’m much more offended by remarks like cherryl made, about diapers and such.
Now that we have that worked out, did anybody read the story in huffpost about the Queen blowing off the GOP retreat because she had “pressing state business and couldn’t leave the state”? lol. As much as I hate constipation-face Boehner, he did sum up their sentiments nicely: “Whatever.”

One of the reasons I have so thoroughly enjoyed this blog was because of the civility of language and the beautiful writing of AKM, along with the insightful comments so many have made, and to get the latest information out there. I have, however, been offended by some of the latest comments which I consider trash talk — can’t we state opinions without resorting to phrases or word pictures many of us find deeply offensive?

I’ll also chime in for civility. When the frustration begins to bubble & brew, sometimes the posts sound too much like right wing hate radio. I too struggle at times, but we’ve got to fight the nasty urge of letting the arguments become personal and hateful. I am not at all interested in changing her personality, but I have always been concerned with her credibility, honesty and ability, which I think can be discussed and challenged without name calling.
Grandma Sarah could not get up those stairs fast enough, huh? She should really have sprung for a professional hair and makeup job and a better dress, she can just claim it on per diem or have her shiny new PAC pay for it.
Obama should really have thanked her for making his win an electoral landslide. No one else ever caused so many Republican to jump ship at election time. As much as I am sick of her, she truly is a wonderful gift to the Democrats, but unfortunately at the expense of the people she is supposed to be working for. I hope you Alaskans will make that right next year. ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin was in Washington, D.C. Saturday, attending an exclusive dinner at which President Barack Obama was also a guest.
The dinner is an annual gathering of the nation’s political elite. It’s a black tie affair at the Capital Hilton and both Obama and Palin addressed the attendees.
Press was not allowed inside.
Accompanying Palin was Meghan Stapleton, a former McCain-Palin campaign spokesperson who is back in the fold assisting Palin with media appearances and other publicity requests.
Palin was also expected to meet with members of Congress regarding Alaska’s financial hopes with respect to the president’s stimulus package

Why is she lobbying for AK projects? The infrastructure part of the stimulus is only for shovel-ready projects. There ain’t nothing about the pipeline that’s shovel-ready…and those are the only things she wants.
She’s not interested in improving or adding to existing transportation, communication, water treatment, libraries (heaven forbid!) or schools. In other words, nothing that would benefit the actual people in AK.
I didn’t think that Palin addressed the attendees. Am I wrong?

this is my take on Palin Pics4Truth…The person, Morgan, was seriously onto something here. They did an incrediable amount of research and could back it up with the photos. For the Sarah Supporters to go after him/her like they did, is freaky on it’s own, but I feel the moderator had excellent proof in the before and after 24 hrs. photos. I hope AKmuckraker and immoral minority find out what went on, because Moragn pretty much blew the lid off of the kettle with those pics. Is that why her supporters went after Moragan the way they did? Everything about “Sparky” is all about lies.
For a woman that is aggressively trying to move up in the ranks in the political scenes she sure is burning a lot of bridges. Does she not think that she needs some of these people. It is a sad day when the House Republican leader no less responds to the question about the missing Gov. “Whatever”. Really how embarrassing for the Gov. to act this way. Then the video of her entrance to this gala affair, she hikes up her dress and almost trots up those stairs, I couldn’t not believe what I was seeing all she needed to do was take off her shoes and carry them while trotting. It has always been said you can clean’em up but the truth always comes out, wow isn’t that correct. I am interested to see if she even tried to act like a lady and on top of that a very high profile lady at that, how sad.

Then went and spent 15 minutes of my life that i’ll never get back watching the live chat on Team Sarah. They are eating their own, a few of them are really pissed with her for going to the dinner and want their money back from her PAC, telling the others they are blindly loving SP and drinking kool aid, too funny!!

Insofar as the Palinpics4truth site, it’s gone. I kept up with it recently and they had the Bristol sofa-bolster’s-for-boobs pics up. INcredibly damning pictures. I almost feel badly for that girl. When that all comes out, and it will, I hope that SWWNBN gets charged with child endangerment.

No threats, thank you. I’m not at all concerned since my story was based on facts as reported by the ADN. It’s a medical professional’s perspective on the situation, and would be difficult to argue. I feel comfortable stating that any obstetrician would agree with my assessment.
The questions posed towards the end are questions that would have been asked in a court of law had this situation had a negative outcome and the individual affected brought a malpractice claim forward.
I won’t be commenting any further on this issue since it is highly controversial and I respect Muckraker’s choice to avoid this topic. One could argue though, that Palin herself has made this an issue by continuing to mention it to the media, and that mom and baby are considered one unit until the actual delivery occurs, ie. the baby isn’t admitted to a facility until birth, therefore comments concerning a pregnancy don’t involve a child directly.

One week after Morgan put her site up with a very interesting analysis of the only (and very suspect pics) of a very pregnant Palin (after every other picture of her during that time show her not looking pregnant at all) newscaster, Andrea Gusty of KTUU actually took the time to do a rebuke of Morgan’s site on the evening news at KTUU. That absolutely blew my mind. Morgan got someone’s attention!
Sarah Palin is the only politician I have ever heard of who has gone to such dire methods to rebuke bloggers. Seriously, Palin! You should either ignore bloggers or if they both you so much, you should provide proof that the bloggers are full of it. Sarah Palin has done neither. She has never once offered proof the she is Trig’s mother except to throw Bristol to the wolves at the RNC. Instead she has complained time after time about ‘bloggers’ attacking her family.
I’m no conspiracy nut, but Morgan’s site and Palin’s Site offered some pretty damning evidence that not only did Palin lie about Trig’s parentage but she took some pretty extraordinary steps to promote the lie.
I’m not even sure why it really matters if she is Trig’s real Mom or not, but the fact that it bothers her so much and the fact that she has never once offered a single piece of evidence to make the rumors go away just makes it very suspicious and curious. She actually promotes the conspiracy with her actions.
But I think the fact that she is a woman who has based her entire political existence on promoting an image of herself that does not resemble the truth at any level explains why she is so bothered by bloggers who peck away at her carefully crafted image of ‘supermom’.
I also don’t think Sarah got the memo that most Americans are tired of politicians who consistently lie to them and insult their intelligence by believing that a superficial image replaces substance. And Palin is all superifical image with no substance.
I feel sorry for the Alaskan people because they have a doozy of a Governor right now. But I do believe her days are numbered. She is playing a dangerous game right now – ignoring her constituency, dissing the party’s elite and trying to position herself as a national player. She may have the ambition and she may have the chutzpah and she may know how to play ‘dirty politicis’ , but she doesn’t have the experience, intelligence,character or knowlege to keep this farce going.
I guess Sarah never really looked at the poll numbers from the last election. She only helped McCain for about a week. In the end she cost him the election. People who may have voted for McCain switched their vote to vote against Palin.
Palin and her supporters can threaten bloggers or strong-arm newscasters but in the end they can’t change who Palin really is – an unqualified, overly-ambitious, lightweight ignoramus who got where she is today by subverting the truth about who she really is.

In her absence, could I make a suggestion.
Could I ask people to respect Morgan’s decision to shut down her blog, and not to comment on it in AKM’s comments section any more, as it might stir up the threateners to keep making threats towards Morgan.
Clearly she wants the threats to stop and that is why she has made the decision to close the blog. Everyone needs to respect that decision. The more you talk about it, the more likely the threats towards her will continue.
I am sure AKM will weigh in on any threats that she may or may not have received over her many months of blogging when she has the chance. Until then, can we please put a lid on the conspiracy theories.
Today in the comments section I have seen all kinds of somewhat bizarre speculation up to and including suggesting that the Palins might be responsible for murder, and to be honest I don’t think that is helpful. It is also potentially defamatory. We have a thread on the forums about defamatory statements which you all should read – people are being sued for comments made on blogs and on forums, and you need to be very aware that this could happen to you, too.

When you are in the media you expect a certain amount of attacks. A blog is a different world.
Most of what I get is positive, because most of my work is features/death/acadmic works. Yes, weird combo, but might explain my insanity when clocking out, too. I live in a very serious world 24/6.
I have had a few times when severe wrath has been wrought. One got so many people screaming I was moved from B4 to B Cover (people will follow you even if they hate you). The other was when I covered Dover (ACLU vs. Dover School Dist, York PA over trying to teach creation science). I was very verbal (and for evolution & sep of church and state) and got a whole lot of backlash from the right wing. In the media, controversy sells. If people are loving and hating you and making a fuss with your name in it, you’re doing pretty well. They know your name that’s all that matters (think Limbaugh).
Kind of like Palin. The more we read and write the more coverage she gets. We’re not really helping our own cause by even caring. But who can help it?
Love her or hate her, so long as there is passion, she’ll be in the news.
I thought when reading about the fire deaths of the nurse and her dogs there was a mention of a slow burning fire. Carbon monoxide poisoning would have incapacitated all of them.

I’ve heard this echoed over and over…I understand the sentiment of frustration (sometimes even fear) expressed by this but I wholeheartedly disagree. SP’s particular brand of climbing the ladder so quickly is her ability to “slip in under the radar” as she did here in AK and as she was attempting to do as VP candidate. This she-Palin is not a snake who should slither around unnoticed – her next best shot is “smoke and mirrors” and she’s very good at it. This is a she-Palin who hasn’t studied geography or political science, but rather one who carefully watches and studies people who have successfully become leaders and copies them. Do not take your eye off of the she-Palin for one minute!

I’m speculating that the fire could be suspicious, but as I remarked on the ADN blog, I’m not aware that any investigation into the fire was ever begun, or if it was, what the results of the investigation might have been.
Keep in mind I’m not accusing anyone specific of anything at all; although I’ve made it apparent which subculture would be most interested in secrets being revealed, or not.
If someone did perpetrate a crime, as far as I know it’s still someone unknown.
And if no one did perpetrate a crime, Dar Miller’s death is STILL a horrific death.

Are there any Dr Who fans out here in the mudflats? There was an episode recently, titled “Midnight.” In this episode there is an alien who boards a spaceship in which The Doctor is traveling. This alien takes over the body of one of the travelers and begins to mimic and repeat every word said by all…. a form of learning. It ultimately focuses on The Doctor with a manic-paced learning frenzy. One or two of the other passengers figure out what is happening but the others turn on them and start threatening them. In the end, one of the passengers sacrifices herself to save the rest from the alien. Those that indirectly helped the alien by refusing to see the truth are shame-faced. One has to see the episode to understand what I’m saying.
My point is that the alien in this episode reminded me of Sarah Palin. She may not have the smarts for good governance, but she is very adept at absorbing the “appearance of” a mayor, a governor, and now, apparently, some have said she is attempting to absorb as much as possible from PO to bolster her appearance as a presidential candidate. The crazy passengers remind me of her supporters. It was very unsettling. Art imitates life?
Re: SP”s political future– We need to think creatively here- SP may be trying to find a way to bore into the core of the GOP for 2012– OR she and her new “friends” may be figuring out how to split the GOP and capture it’s right flank. Turns out that the House Republicans invited her to attend their annual winter retreat in Hot Springs, VA this weekend….but the Gov. of Alaska had to regretfully decline stating “…pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave this weekend.” (See Huffington Post or ABC news for whole story).
Ah, shucks! All that low-profile slithering hither and thither didn’t work….The House GOPers found out she lied to them. Instead of minding that pressing business in ‘Laska, the Poster Girl for Real Americans was “pallin’” around with the terrorist paller and his pals at the exclusive dinner for the Elite Pals of DC. Even giggling happily at zingers at her expense with the aforementioned Elitist Pals. Uh-Oh.
I don’t like to think that President Obama had to breathe in the air that had been fouled by the presence of Cheney-in-drag.

I don’t normally contribute to senate races outside of my own state, but in the last election I ran 3-for-3 (Kay Hagan in NC, Ed Begich, and Al Franken MN) because I absolutely detested their Repub incumbents. I really had to sweat out the Franken/Coleman race, but it makes me wonder how many other contributors were like me, out-of-state. I’m sure the mudflats community and others like minded could out donate Palin’s far right “Palinconfusionites”.

Sheeesh, this woman is determined to dig her own grave with her own party! First, complaining how the RNC handled her during the campaign, then, instead of just saying to the House Republicans that she was attending (committed?) other functions in DC that weekend, and thanking them for inviting her, she LIES to them, saying she can’t leave AK. It’s been said before, but someone couldn’t make stuff up. If a movie or book came out about a “ficticious” politician like this, folks would just shake their heads and wonder where in the world the ideas came from, and what the author was smoking at the time.

Yes, I’ve seen the episode, and YES you have it nailed that she models the appearance only of a politician. She taught herself that snarky method of debating where she attacks her opponent with sarcasm, while trying to appear perky and in control. She practiced, and practiced, and practiced until she had it down. I should find the clip of the debate she had with Andrew Halcro and Tony Knowles and how childishly she tried to put them down. She honed those skills even further in her VP debate (“May I call you Joe?” at the beginning was a total setup) and then onto her snarky and nasty rallies.
Unfortunately, to an audience who wants a celebrity instead of a knowledgeable and capable politician, she comes off as clever. What we are seeing with the really creepy and delusional Team Sarah types and worse, is that these are folks, who normally hide behind closed doors or in their church groups, are out in force with their sick desire to use Sarah as their celebrity politician to further their too-radical-for-most agendas. That’s one part of the club. Another big membership is letchy men – they lust after the Beauty Queen instead of a common sense politician. Another sect is the wannabe politicians who want to hang onto her coattails and share in the limelight because they have nothing to offer that would ever bring them there on their own.
The world really hasn’t gone crazy – she is just bringing out the elements in our society that we really knew were there, but didn’t want to think about. She’s not converting progressives, or winning moderates – she NEVER WILL.
We just need to make sure that the light we bring shines forever into her dark corners, and that the numbers we bring to the voting booth FAR OUTNUMBER her strange bot fans – ALWAYS and FOREVER until she is gone from the scene.

I think, looking back, that the Palin family will rue the day that she was selected as a running mate for McCain. Evidently she was getting away with most of this stuff, and no one questioned her, and she had a very high approval rating. What’s not love with that rebate the state sent out? Then, the whole world focused on her and her family, and it didn’t look too good. There was an awful lot baggage.
I agree with Eastcoast that I wish she would just step back and focus on her family, and realize what this has done to them, despite her moment of glory. It obviously has taken some toll, since she spends more time in ANC than JUN. What would happen if Obama spent more time in IL than DC? (‘Course, that’s on a national level, not a state). I was there when Jay Hammond was governor, and this would have been unthinkable.
It’s good to have this venue to wonder and talk about this.

Actually, they only officially meet for 3 months… at least for regular session. Every year for ages they’ve had to go into Special Session(s). Actually, they just changed to 90 day sessions last year (used to be 120 days, long story, ballot initiative, search around on the internet for details), but then they met for another 61 days of Special Sessions, so it’s not like the actually got all their work done in 90 days.

Has anyone figured out yet who paid for her trip to DC and did she take her family with her. If the State of Alaska paid, the people in that state should be furious. Her trip had nothing to do with Alaska, other than her posturing about having to go to Washington to plead their case for stimulus funds. She can do that quite well from Alaska. And I understand she is only asking for 600 million for her pet gas line projects. She apparently could care less about the crumbling infrastructure in Alaska.
For the life of me I don’t understand how anyone in Alaska could still support this woman. She’s making a laughingstock out of her state.

Lainey – looks like that might be the case. Now, she’s currying favor with the Nome folks by going after “the road to Nome”, when there is no way the state can afford it. But she will probably come off smelling like a rose, and win votes out there.
