Palin Responds to Defenders of Wildlife.
I always lull myself into thinking that there’s nothing left that can come from the Governor’s office that will surprise me. And then come those “gotcha” press releases just to prove me wrong. Here’s the latest one from the Governor’s office talking about the fund set up by Defenders of Wildlife and the accompanying video featuring Ashley Judd.
You really need to watch the video again to get the full impact of the press release.
OK, now make sure you’re sitting down, and take a big deep cleansing breath. Inhale……..and…….exhale…….
You are now as ready as you’ll ever be for what’s coming.
February 3, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin released the following statement today in response to attacks by the Defenders of Wildlife:
“It is reprehensible and hypocritical that the Defenders of Wildlife would use Alaska and my administration as a fundraising tool to deceive Americans into parting with their hard-earned money.
“The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. Alaskans depend on wildlife for food and cultural practices which can’t be sustained when predators are allowed to decimate moose and caribou populations. Our predator control programs are scientific and successful at protecting vulnerable wildlife. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.
“Shame on the Defenders of Wildlife for twisting the truth in an effort to raise funds from innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times.”
Yes, folks. This is all a giant ploy to RIP YOU OFF! That video of those guys gunning down a wolf from the air? That’s “protecting vulnerable wildlife”. It’s “scientific.”
“Shame.” Not on the state, not on her, shame on Defenders of Wildlife. How dare they, in these times of woe and want, try to part you from your hard-earned money. Money, which, Sarah Palin would like you and all those other “innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times” to donate to her new political action committee, SarahPAC!
And let’s take a moment to review the vitriol, shall we? Reprehensible. Hypocritical. Extreme fringe group. Audacious. Twisting the truth. Shame. Does the use of this venemous vocabulary remind you of anyone from any particular….squad? If this isn’t from the pen of Meg Stapleton, then someone’s doing an impressive imitation.
And it never ceases to amaze me with what speed the Governor’s office seems to address matters of great importance. And it also never ceases to amaze me what their definition of “great importance” seems to be. Have we heard anything from the Governor about how destitute Alaskans in rural villages are going cold and hungry because of the fishery collapse in Bristol Bay? No. Not one word in 23 days. But we’ve had official press releases on state letterhead with titles like “Governor Palin Says to Media, “There You Go Again” and “Governor Palin Releases Statement on Defenders of Wildlife Campaign“.
Has Palin actually flown out to Emmonak, or Nunam Iqua, or any other village on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta? Or any other village in Alaska where parents are silently deciding whether their children and their elders should get food or heat? What about an entire village where all the residents have to pack up and leave their collective home because the price of energy has overwhelmed them? No. But she did have time to jet off to Washington D.C. and dine on filet mignon and lobster tails at the Alfalfa Club Dinner.
And where exactly is Sarah Palin right now? Does anyone know? She’s not in Juneau, although Alaska’s Legislators are all there, working long hours trying to do the business of the state and get things accomplished; things that will actually help people. They’d probably like to be talking to her. You know, about Alaska and the people who live here, and what’s important to us.
We know where she is not. And we know what she is not doing. And we know what she is not thinking about. The question is, when will Alaskans and their legislators have had enough?

I sat here for a while just looking at the blank comment box and was at a loss for words.
This all reminds me of big game hunters who pay bucks to hunt down a wild animal that is caged in a small area…some big hunter!!!
If a bounty was not paid, there would be none of this killing, she says rein in spending, but we can not rein her in and hold her accountable.
The killing of any of GOD’s creatures is wrong, unless it is for food, if it be for sport, what is the point?
I am sorry, but I just do not get all this, someone explain it to me.
Yup, sure does sound like Meg “The Mouth” Stapleton’s shrill verbage. I hope that woman never expects to EVER get another job in the Alaska media. Her credibility is zilch, along with her good bud Bill “The Shill” McAllister. Will this nightmare ever end?!
Cagney – I’m with you, and re-acted the same way, just staring into the blank white comment space. Is there no way to get rid of this woman? There seems not to be. The day has just started and I’m already in a funk.
AKM wondered where SP is? I’m wondering where she was when she endorsed the guy from TX? Down there?
MENDACITY, PURE MENDACITY.
[…..Big Daddy, in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’}
What can a person with integrity do to deal with such shameless lying?
Especially someone in the Lower 48? I have given all the money I can to
Defenders of Wildlife.
Although I guess the fact that SP or her mouthpiece took action so
quickly means that Defenders and this video have struck home at last.
AKM: In answer to your question, I, for one, have had enough ~ hard to fathom the enormous lack of attention to things that matter; what was that about ‘respect for all life’ ~ is that just the lives SHE cares about? Prayin’ to progress the nation with killings, yup, and turning HER back on humans in need. How many more days til we get to vote again?
Ah, “the facts”. The phrase “the facts” is yet another one of those terms co-opted by wingnuts like “liberal,” “media,” and “feminist.”
“The facts” does not have anything to do with facts per se. If it did, it would not be left undefined — the person talking would just say what “the facts” were. If I was talking to kindergarteners about traffic safety I would not say, for instance “learn ‘the facts’ about crossing the street.” Instead, I would give them details: hold hands, look both ways, etc. Likewise, if wingnuts actually were talking about the facts, they would proceed to *state* the facts.
Alas, no — when wingnuts say “the facts,” they leave it amorphous, undefined, and abstract. “The facts,” in fact, when uttered by a Palin-type, means “I stand for a vague concept of truthiness, while others, whom I may or may not list, do not — and because of this their every utterance is suspect.”
When a Palin says “the facts,” she means anything but. Yet another red flag to wave, yet another emotional response to incite, yet another attempt to tap people of the shoulder to get ‘em to look somewheres else.
She needs a course in rhetoric.
Cannot wait until she goes the way of Blagojevich.
When will the AK Legislators have enough? Probably never. As long as moneybag Republicans in the Lower 48 think that Sarah Palin is their party’s best and brightest, the Legislators will have to deal with her and her unofficial extended stay in the limelight. Unfortunately, the campaign showed one thing quite clearly: the easiest way to invade and control a state government is to nominate the governor for a high national office – especially when the governor in question is as vapid and egocentric as Palin.
As for me, I’m sending Defenders of Wildlife a nice big check to show my support and as an indication of my appreciation for taking on the poseur in Alaska.
Sarah got DC fever. She is busying in an undisclosed location, likely at home collecting per Diem, writing op-eds to stay relevant in the lower 48. Her op-ed has appeared in Minneapolis Star in which she claims those 3 billion barrels of economically recoverable oil in ANWR will save America. She has also written a letter to the Texas Federation of Republican Women endorsing Gov Perry for re-election. Hypocritical? You betcha! During the campaign Sarah said women need to stick together but she isn’t endorsing the better and more qualified candidate, Sen Kay Bailey Hutchison (R).
Defenders of Wildlife does good work. Sarah Palin is the one who is on the extreme fringe with her long record of science denial and witch hunter priest.
Did she even come back to Alaska after the big whoop or is she still down here? Is she in Texas snuggling up to perry, hoping for an endorsement of her own?
And where is the first dude? Doing the governor’s work for her?
AKM – a request from me.
A beloved family member passed away yesterday. I said I was sending my “Memorials” to Nunam Iqua. My other Sisters agreed that’s where they wanted to send their memorials, too. But tonight, after printing out address labels, I’m having a problem locating through last month’s archives the Wish List for types of groceries needed for people that are new to the story. Would it be possible to place links permanently up on the right side list of good links: Ann’s Shopping trip/the Wish List spot/best story perhaps one of Dennis’ of the problem’s they’re encountering? Or maybe one link that gives links to all of them? I have no doubt people of their church will be asking where we suggest donations? Would make it easier, while providing more donations. Thanks, if you can do that.
“Has Palin actually flown out to Emmonak, or Nunam Iqua, or any other village on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta? Or any other village in Alaska where parents are silently deciding whether their children and their elders should get food or heat? ”
I will try to set something up like that with links to the articles. The list of needed foods can be found in the sidebar under the graphic at the top for Village Aid. Click it and you’ll find the list. So sorry for your loss, Kath. AKM
I was not so shocked about this video- I saw a longer version of it on youtube months ago. Though Palins response is repulsive, what really shcoked me about this whole thing is that their are Palinbots out there defending aereal hunting because “Alaksan eat wolves.” Eat em. For food. Not for skins or for fun. Wolves, they’re what’s for dinner. Or so she has some beleiving!
BTW AKM, I did find and print out 5 copies of “http://www.thetundradrums.com/news/show/4692″ that explains kind of. But maybe someone (less befuddled as I feel right now) could better pull it together. Family is all down in Phoenix and have never heard of the situation.
I would also include Emmo’s info, if possible. The fact that they shared their donations was pretty powerful IMO. I’ve just been sending to Nunam Iqua because (aside from the fact that Ann Strongheart is one dynamic person) the lack of trading post and gas required to get groceries.
I don’t particularly believe in evil, but SP would be a symbol of it if I did. To defend the killing of predators by claiming to care for Alaskans is the height of hypocracy. Maybe by Alaskans she doesn’t mean native Alaskans who have to try to make a living fishing after the human predators have “thinned the herds” so to speak. And by the way, when did she start liking science? And aren’t we Americans smart enough to decide how to spend our hard earned money? I think my head will explode!
I truly despise this woman. She has no shame. I cannot believe she even had the nerve to put this out. I also cannot believe she has never stepped back and taken a look at herself and questioned what she does – whatever it may be! I just really don’t know what else to say about her. I am at a loss. Makes my Rick Perry look like an angel.
I think the Gov’s response (or Meg the Mouthpiece’s) is meant to make it “look” like Palin’s back to work at the moment. So people aren’t wondering WHERE she is. She’s probably at home in Wasilla relaxing after all the hard work of hobnobbing with all them thar Elitists back east. So now, she’s sincerely lost the potential votes in 2012 of any pet or animal lover. Ya Betcha also.
Kath the Scrappy from Seattle (04:08:10) : Much sympathy for you.
Often it is discouraging to be compulsively compelled to follow and track the antics of SP. However, when I read of the sincerity of your post to seek to memorialize the struggles and plight of Alaskans, and the positive efforts that AKM’s muddies produce, it makes all the effort seem worth while. May peace be with your family as you mourn the loss of your loved one.
Besides being again dismayed by another “gotcha” response to protect SP’s precious egotistical self image, I was glad to read through the linked “scientific” post at AKM references above. It clealy shows moral weakness and highlight her lack of leadership…WHITCH is appalling.
You sould know by now that the only issues Sarah Plain actually responds to are those issue covered by the national media, and those that she thinks make her look bad. Since the MSM doesn’t cover the Alaskan Village crisis, she ignores it. This aerial wolf hunting stuff came out in the presidential campaign but was overshadowed by Troopergate and all the other nonsense…so just add another one to the neverending list of “gates”.
Quite frankly, I don’t know how Alaskans put up with her. I would be preparing a campaign for impeachment through my state representatives if she were my governor…are the rest of Alaskans so politically apathetic that they don’t even care?
Well Defenders just got a nice fat check from me. Every single time I see this b**ch I send them some more cash.
If she speaks about wolves, that’s $1000 for Defenders, and I don’t let them send me the cute stuffed animals either.
If Jesus were here on earth, he’d toss her in that volcano that’s about to erupt.
@ kljcager-ohio (04:36:31) :
Thank you for the kind words, just lost my Dad 2 months ago, now my first sibling. We’re shell shocked. The only pleasurable time I’ve had in this past two weeks was while shopping and packing my boxes for Nunam Iqua (in memory of both Mom & Dad). So, this effort does seem a fitting tribute to my Big Sis, as well, that’s truly needed.
Killer post AKM!
I think I will link to you over at the Immoral Minority.
The fact that Palin responded to this ad definitely shows that it scared her, that she is afraid it is damaging her political future. And she is right.
ak dennis
I agree, that’s Meg Stapleton talking. Shouldn’t press releases be toned down? That one is hardly “professionally” written. What’s worst is when you hear Meg’s Words come out of SP’s mouth because she ( SP) thinkshe sounds smart or on point. They ( SP, MS & BMc) need to dial it down and now!!!!!
From the press release: The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. Okay, Governor Palin (or Bill McAllister), please provide constructive answers to my following questions:
1) “The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs.” Q1: What are these distortions? Q2: Are they wrong in pointing out that you shoot wolves from airplanes? Q3: Or are they wrong in not pointing out that your shooting of wolves is not part of any authorized state “wildlife management program” prior to or subsequent to you becoming governor?
2) Alaskans depend on wildlife for food and cultural practices which can’t be sustained when predators are allowed to decimate moose and caribou populations. Q1: how can your shooting of wolves from airplanes be deemed a part of any “cultural practice”? Q2: how does your shooting wolves from airplanes advance or sustain “cultural practices”? Q3: wolves hunting moose and caribou is different in what way from the natural processes utilized by mother nature over the past 25,000+ years?
3) “Our predator control programs are scientific and successful at protecting vulnerable wildlife.” Q1: please describe with specificity the science behind your act of shooting wolves from your airplane. Q2: please describe how native peoples protected vulnerable wildlife before you climbed into your personal aircraft with your scoped rifle. Q3: please describe how mother nature protected vulnerable wildlife before you climbed into your personal aircraft with your scoped rifle.
4) “These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska.” Q1: perhaps I’ve missed the airplane, but what is being misrepresented? Are you now claiming that the wolves you’ve shot from your personal airplane were not actually shot as described?
For 10′s of thousands of years, wolves culled the weak and the sick from herds of caribou and the ranks of moose. Why not allow mother nature to continue doing so without the interference of one special Sarah Palin with her scoped rifle in an airplane?
“And where exactly is Sarah Palin right now? Does anyone know? She’s not in Juneau, although Alaska’s Legislators are all there, working long hours trying to do the business of the state and get things accomplished”

Nothing like a no-show job, eh? On the public’s dime, no less.
If she’s not interested in doing the job, why did she run for that office in the first place? She gets a really nice publicly-funded salary for doing absolutely nothing.
She replaces blowhardovich as the nation’s most disgraceful governor.

No.
What she needs is a good swift kick in the ass.
At the risk of seeming to be a wet blanket, I think it’s awful HARD and expensive to actually recall or impeach someone. Although, the negative publicity does help in getting them out next election. Here in Seattle, we’ve got a crooked Port of Seattle Commissioner being paid $5,000 (yes, $5k) for a parttime job. All the perks, gifts, massive 1st Class trips around the world, prestige, those Port jobs are nice (nobody’s ever answered my questions whether they also get medical/dental insurance).
Tied up in the Courts for months. This crook will be voted out of office before the Recall ever lands. It takes a lot of concerted & sophisticated effort to get one of those recalls/impeachments to actually work. So, I can appreciate the frustration of many Alaskans when they keep getting hammered for not doing enough, heck their Legislature just seems to roll over and take it. But it’s not that easy. I’m just hopeful the Justice Dept will be taking a hard look at Palin’s little housebuilding venture, like they did Stevens.
Kath the Scrappy, I’m so sorry to hear about your recent troubles. Thank you for sharing your sorrow with us and thank you for your and your family’s generosity to the villages. Hugs.
Kath the Scrappy: The list of most needed food items is linked in the sidebar way up at the top where it says “Village Aid Shopping List”. The second page has a list of most in-demand items. And don’t forget the “lady” products, although they are not specifically listed.

No, they don’t. If anything… I hope they rev it up. They should be just as extreme as they want… and then some!
Since this little response was so “Meg”….and “Meg” was SP’s escort to the ultra elite Alfalfa Club dinner, can you even imagine how the dinner conversation went with those “lucky” or “blessed” enough to sit at Sarah’s table? Did “the Meg” kick her under the table each time one of those Naughty Monkey’s came close to SP’s mouth (because you KNOW she had to put her foot in her mouth at least once during that meal!)? For crying out loud, the woman cannot come up with a coherent sentence!
I’m not much of a PETA fan but why haven’t they taken up this cause? I’d think they would be all over it.
Hopefully the people of Alaska can start campaigning now for her removal/impeachment/recall, but since even the Legislature of Alaska is failing to do a thing about Palin’s, what I feel, unethical and immoral actions, the best thing to do is find a replacement for her in 2010 and start working on that campaign NOW! Also, take to the streets and protest!! IN JUNEUA NOW!! LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!

My heart goes out out you and your family; all of the mudpups feel the same way. I’m sending warm hugs to you-
I hope you found the links/stories you needed on the Forum, Alaska Lodge.
UNBELIEVABLE! I can’t help but sit here absolutely dumbstruck.
Anyone involved in “animal conservation” knows that hunting by helicopter, with AK47s’ is not how you control animal populations.
If the wolves are so hard to get at that you had to resort to that , so would the animals that the wolves are supposedly killing.
In other words, if the wolves are killing moose (for example) that people rely on for food, then the moose would only be accessible by helicopter as well.
Now if it were true that the wolves WERE killing moose (example again) in such numbers for there do be an imbalance, leaving the local hunters to go hungry; then the wolves would be trapped, not shot from helicopters.
The hunters in the area would be doing the trapping themselves.
This Helli-hunting is pure blood sport. Nothing more, nothing less.
I have lived in a small community, where some folks hunted for food and trapped for a living.
They had a term for activities like this Helli-hunting; kill crazy, is what they would say.
Anyone who took more than they needed to eat in a season, give to seniors, or make a modest living at (in the case of the trappers), was referred to as “kill crazy”.
All the hunters and trappers knew that just because there is a bounty on a particular animal, does not make it justified. It takes the governments too long to recognise a problem and even longer to know when the problem is resolved.
I’m not telling most Alaskans anything they don’t already know, but there are people from all over the world that enjoy this blog as I do.
This Helli-hunting is an unnecessary blood sport for people that have an unnatural lust to kill animals, any animals. Kill crazy. It is that simple.
While Sarah Palin encourages and defends this lust, she allows her own citizens to starve and freeze. Palin tells them they can hunt one more moose this year.
It takes money for gas for vehicles to go hunting, money Palin knows they don’t have. They can not afford fuel for heat, so how could they afford the gas it would take, on the CHANCE they might shoot a moose?
This must be Palins method of controlling the native population in Alaska.
What else could it be, what else could it be?

Explain? Just wondering, not arguing.
Wouldn’t it be better to Ignore the “fringe” ad than give it airtime? JMO.
It’s always a challenge to express the proper response to anything Palin says or does. Or perhaps I should anything she has others say for her as I have serious doubts she is capable of composing a comprehensive or grammatically correct sentence on her own. She is such a caricature of a real human being – you know one with compassion, perspective, character, ethics, depth or morality.
But it never does cease to amaze me what she does find the time to publically respond to. For example, I find it very interesting and ironic that even though there has been expressed outrage on the Internet for quite some time over her policy of endorsing the aerial killing of wolves, it took this video from a quite lovely Ashley Judd coupled with some quite hideous pictures of Sarah Palin to generate official outrage from Sarah. I think the Defenders of Wildlife have discovered the secret on how to really get to Sarah Palin. I seriously believe that she doesn’t give a hoot what anyone says about her, but she sure doesn’t like it when you make her look bad – literally.
So let’s not only keep the pressure on her, but let’s do it with really ugly, unflattering pictures of her! Good job DoW!
seems like a state impeached the wrong governor.
my governor got kicked out — why can’t y’all do the same? isn’t time you threw out the trash like we did?
I, for one would like to see this article in all the Alaska Newspapers….maybe under, letter to the editor, something. Very well written and to the point. Out of the park as the Immoral Minority put it, and he is soooo right. Thank you.
I’m going to enjoy watching the backlash this press release brings! She’s just gone and riled up a whole lot of celebs and Hollywood animal lovers……….war on.
Palin’s now hanging out with Fred Malek, a nasty piece-o-work who years ago got in trouble for murdering and barbecuing a dog (yes, a dog). Google old Fred. So yep, that’s Palin’s newest BFF.
Quick, pass the antiseptic wipes.
She makes me sick to my stomach. I ended up sending her another nasty email. I just can’t help myself. Each email gets nastier. I lost it this time, calling her psychotic and evil.
actually she’s just gone and riled up animal lovers world wide!
“It is reprehensible and hypocritical that SarahPac would use Alaska and my administration as a fundraising tool to deceive Americans into parting with their hard-earned money,” Palin should have said in a statement.

Thank YOU! Needed that Hug!!!
After I posted, I stumbled onto that “Village Aid Shopping List”, can’t figure how I missed since I’ve looked at it so many times. Am printing that out. Still, it would be nice to have one place with all the best links of the story, lists, etc.
As far as the “lady” products (GLAD you brought that reminder up) and stuff like toilet paper, diapers, goes, I’ve kind of left that for people’s cash donations to cover hopefully. They aren’t so heavy as they are bulky. With my tiny (large size flatrate $13.95 USPS boxes), I’ve been doing heavy. Like baby formula, beans, salt, type of stuff. Now, I’m looking for raisins/fruit to pack my baby formulas. I think Ann said it was something like $4.50 lb for raisins when she shopped.
Would it seem crude to tell this story? Back in 1985, at age 35, I had a hysterectomy unexpected. Believe it or not (was learning Lotus123) I set up a spreadsheet, figuring how much money I would potentially ‘save’ on lady products until I might hit menopause. Came up with a cost savings at around $485 over an estimated 20+ yrs. Just about fell over at Sam’s Club the other day just looking at what they costs these days! I hadn’t figured in inflation. lol
To paraphrase a texan: Sarah Palin… all rifle, no gunpowder.
The Gash lives up to her name!
Imagine that.
Kath the Scrappy from Seattle I am sorry to hear of you recent losses, my prayers are with you and your family and my admiration for you thinking of the villagers during these times.
Libby, I am glad that PETA is not involved because they have lost so much credibility for some of the stunts they do. It is a shame for the animals because their resources are vast and have such great networking.
I went to ADN site yesterday to check on the status of the volcano and saw this story. I decided I would peruse the comments to see the reactions of the readers. I could not believe the ignorance of some of the posters that had not a clue of what they were talking about. One person made a statement that went something like this, if the wolves eat all of the caribou and moose then they will eat pets then women, men and children. I kid you not.
Sometimes you have to wonder do some of these people have a single thought on their own or do they always rely on others for their thought processes. Some were even making comments on Yellowstone wolves, once again they had all their info wrong, but they were using that as to why Ms. Judd should mind her own business and stay out of Alaska. Of course my question is what is the difference they are both in the United States last time I checked. I truly think some of these people don’t think Alaska is part of the United States maybe they think it is a continent or maybe even a country.
I still believe in the phrase, “hit dog will holler” because Gov. Palin never disappointments me when she is caught red handed and confronted with it. She sure does holler loud…
Okay, Sarah did it: I was leaning, but she just convinced me to donate some of my hard-earned money to Defenders of Wildlife.
This woman is so fundamentally stupid and oozingly evil. How did she EVER get elected governor?
Tewise-
Have to agree with you on PETA’s nutty stunts and I’m glad they are not involved…it still surprises me that they have remained silent on this issue, though.
“Sometimes you have to wonder do some of these people have a single thought on their own or do they always rely on others for their thought processes. ”
-Sounds like a Governor we know….
She has been confronted with this before…I think it is more about Ashley Judd than the wolves. She can’t seem to handle criticism when it comes from women. I wonder if her reaction would have been the same if the spokesperson had been a man?
So someone who’s just set up a PAC is criticizing another issues-based organization for fundraising? The hypocrisy of this woman is amazing, ideology asside.
Ok, as a science geek, can someone come up with the “science” she talks about? Is anyone doing a study as to the decimation of the caribou and Moose populations? How can she justify any of it without hard facts and numbers? You can’t tell me that wolves kill more herd animals than the humans do. They just extended Moose season. That doesn’t happen if the numbers are dwindling.
This woman knows nothing about science. Otherwise, she’d not be calling out war on the belugas. They have been scientifically proven to be decimated. By her. Yet she fights their salvation.
I personally think there are too many female Palins up there…….I won’t say what I want to next, you can just imagine it.
From HuffPo on Fred Malek – SP’s new BFF:
“In the early morning hours of August of 1959, sheriff deputies outside of Peoria discovered a vehicle covered in blood and a group of drunken young men, also covered in blood, nearby. Some were hiding in the bushes. The men told the deputies that they had accidentally hit a dog. Then their story changed. And then it changed again. Finally, one of them confessed. They had captured the dog and had barbecued it in a nearby park. The deputies returned to the scene and found a skinned and gutted canine on a spit in the park. An empty booze bottle was also nearby. Fred Malek was one of the five young men arrested for the crime, though the charges against him were eventually dropped.”

Interesting, n’est ce pas?
The self proclaimed leader of the Republican lunatic fringe has been silent for more than 23 days on issues relevant to the people in rural AK, yet she dines with the very same elitist she vowed never to hobnob with during her bid for VP. Excuses and accusations, cover-ups and dodges keep her in the public eye, and make her the laughing stock of her party, and so busy she can’t do the job she was elected to do. She claims to be looking out for her beloved state of AK, while she is busy supporting those she hopes to glean favor from in others states, all on the AK dime. Can it be that she is ready to self distruck, trying to be what she can never achieve, the leader of the free world.
I agree that it’s time to stop this obsession of trying to get AK to impeach her and just put our efforts and money into her replacement. She is doing more and more each day to point out why she doesn’t belong in any office in the land. Let her continue to believe the lies she and her kind invent. The more delusional she gets eating from the table scraps of those who would feed her ego, the fatter her head becomes, bloated on her own soar milk.
Some will never open their eyes and notice, they will follower her to their own demies, let them go. Who needs them. Let’s get on to the business of making real changes that bring jobs that provide food, heat and education to those we care about.
libby
I wonder if her reaction would have been the same if the spokesperson had been a man?……………….I have a sneaking idea you and some others have hit the nail on the head.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
There isn’t enough soap and water in the world to rinse this disgusting, horrible, nasty woman away.
I think that this has been mentioned before, but SarahPac is still falsely claiming that SP is the Chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission – which she is not. Governor Brad Henry holds this position. I emailed them and told them that their site was attempting to spread false info about SP, now my email feels dirty.
Hey Goalie, be sure to use the anti-bacterial soap and then be sure to sterilize. Then you will realize you will wash off all your skin before you can accomplish the task of ridding her, lol.
Wow!
How completely ridiculous!
And what a BAD grasp of the English language this ad displays!
Here’s a definition for you, Meg S.:
Audacious
Adjective
1. Invulnerable to fear or intimidation; “audacious explorers”; “fearless reporters and photographers”; “intrepid pioneers”.
2. Unrestrained by convention or propriety; “an audacious trick to pull”; “a barefaced hypocrite”; “the most bodacious display of tourism this side of Anaheim”- Los Angeles Times; “bold-faced lies”; “brazen arrogance”; “the modern world with its quick material successes and insolent belief in the boundless possibilities of progress”- Bertrand Russell.
3. Disposed to venture or take risks; “audacious visions of the total conquest of space”; “an audacious interpretation of two Jacobean dramas”; “the most daring of contemporary fiction writers”; “a venturesome investor”; “a venturous spirit”.
And I say, YAY for the Defenders of Wildlife! And long may they continue to be “audacious!” And AK and the mudpuppies, too!
So there, Sarah!
(PS. Personally, I’m very glad PETA has NOT jumped on this campaign. They actually are extremists, imo, whereas the Defenders of Wildlife are quite mainstream, and have TONS of credibility with the American public)
I am so sorry your governor is a self absorbed nit wit. If she runs for governor again in 2010 her motto should be “Hooray for me and to Hell with you”, that is her mental motto now. It is way to obvious.
I also think she is way jealous of Ashley Judd, beauty, smarts, etc. SP needs to look in the witch mirror. She is really starting to look haggard.
I personally think there are too many female Palins up there…….I won’t say what I want to next, you can just imagine it.
_____________
You mean like… her mother should exercise retroactive choice?
sorry for the snarkiness…
There are many questions above — why SP doesn’t do this, why SP doesn’t do that? Don’t we all realize that this woman is minimally-equipped?
The BEST QUESTION is AKM’s question: when will Alaskans and their legislators have had enough? She is exactly the 2-faced, corrupt politician that she rails against! It’s disgusting, despressing, and depraved.
When I heard that GWB used to put firecracker’s in frogs mouths and blow them up as a kid – it explained alot about his insensitivity towards the human condition. I knew then it was impossible for me to ever like that man or support him in the Presidency. It colored everything he did IMO.
This, of course is far, far worse that GWB’s childish but violent antics.
This woman is a cold blooded killer of defenseless wildlife and does it with a glad heart and a smile. Think about that…
{Since this little response was so “Meg”….and “Meg” was SP’s escort to the ultra elite Alfalfa Club dinner, can you even imagine how the dinner conversation went with those “lucky” or “blessed” enough to sit at Sarah’s table? Did “the Meg” kick her under the table each time one of those Naughty Monkey’s came close to SP’s mouth (because you KNOW she had to put her foot in her mouth at least once during that meal!)? For crying out loud, the woman cannot come up with a coherent sentence!}
SHE was in good company!
“This was a room whose head table of 45 guests groaned with power. Not just one president, but two: Bush 41 was up there, with the indomitable Bar down at the other end, seated beside Sarah Palin, who is surprisingly slight and dainty in real life, with star-struck glistening eyes.”
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-02-02/united-in-comedy/
I think that Sarah was at Fort Richardson yesterday. At least, ADN states that she gave a speech at the deployment ceremony there.
I understand completely the point about Palin’s misplaced priorities and self-promotion. But I do ask, how bad is this practice of killing wolves from airplanes? How many wolves are killed this way per year? Is this killing of wolves really preventing wolf overpopulation? Is it necessary, as Palin’s press release implies? Are we complaining about killing wolves at all, or just that it is done from an airplane?
In a sense, since I’m not a vegetarian, I can’t stand by a blanket complaint about humans killing animals. But I can certainly understand wildlife protection.
So perhaps there should be a law against killing wolves, period, except in self defense or when necessary to avoid overpopulation. I don’t know enough to say, at this point, whether such a law is needed. But if such a law is not passed, it might be hard to convince me that there should be a law governing merely the method of killing wolves. Whether it’s from a plane or from the ground, I’m not sure that makes much difference. But let me know if it does.
Kath the Scrappy,
I am sooooo sorry to hear about your loss!! You and your family will be in our prayers!
Read the post below for the information you requested.
Ann Strongheart
“I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.”
Hasn’t Palin sued the Federal Government so that she can be free to exterminate polar bears and beluga whales?
Morning Everyone;
Kath mentioned wanting a permanent link to the list I provided.
There is a whole WEBSITE devoted STRICKLY to helping Rural AK.
anonymousbloggers.wordpress.com
The following I cut and paste from the page “How to help”
http://anonymousbloggers.wordpress.com/how-to-help/
How to help
If you would like to lend a helping hand to rural Alaskans forced this winter to choose whether to feed their families or heat their homes, there are several ways to help.
We have been working with Ann Strongheart in the village of Nunam Iqua, AK. nunamiquayouth@yahoo.comHer village is one of many that need assistance.
First contact your representatives in Congress and tell them we’re watching!
Get the word out
Post links to this blog and others to make people aware of this situaton. We have a flyer you can post in supermarkets, office BBs, etc. There’s a DOC file you can edit — you might have to adjust the fonts. There’s also a PDF, if you want to print it as is.
Help a community with a monetary donation:
Call SPAN Alaska Sales, toll-free, at 1-800-367-9833. This company specializes in shipping food and supplies to rural Alaska. Ask for Efton, and tell him you would like to make a donation to a Village Aid account. They can take credit card info over the phone. They will mail you a receipt for your payment, with the account name on it, for your tax records.
This whole effort started because of a blog post Ann Strongheart, Food Drive Director/Coordinator in Nunam Iqua, left on a blog we follow. We started an account for her and she is SPAN Alaska’s contact in her village. She orders from the account and distributes food and supplies to the the neediest families. If you would like to make a donation to her village, be sure to specify the Nunam Iqua Village Aid account.
Since we started this effort more struggling villages have come to light. The LA Times ran a story about the Village of Tuluksak and reporter Kim Murphy set up a similar account with contacts she made while in the village.
When other villages out in the Tundra provide a contact/distributor to work with SPAN Alaska, additional accounts like these will be set up. Call Efton at 1-800-367-9833 to make a donation or set up an account for another village.
Donate mony for fuel
Emmonak, the village that first came to the local media’s attention as a struggling village, is able to take donations by credit card to earmark for fuel. Other villages, including Nunam Iqua can accept checks for fuel cost donations. We will post more information as it becomes available.
Identify another village
You can also use your rollover minutes and nationwide long distance to call other villages and set up a contact person in a village that is struggling who is willing to step in and serve as a contact/distributor for their village – much like Ann Strongheart is doing for Nunam Iqua.
Donate to tha American Federation of Natives
The Alaska Federation of Natives, a very reputable, long established organization in Anchorage has set up a relief fund to help all rural Alaskan Villages suffering from the fuel price and fishing crisis. They have dedicated a bank account that is being used strictly for this situation. If you have questions about the AFN’s program you can speak directly to Gladys Charles, who is co-ordinating the fund collection. Her # in Anchorage is (907) 274-3611. Checks should be made payable to AFN/ Village Relief Fund and mailed to Gladys Charles. AFN. 1577 C st. Suite 300 Anchorage, Alaska 99501
Buy and ship food and supplies
SPAN Alaska
SPAN Alaska is a company based in Washington that specializes in supplying groceries to rural Alaskans, They ship groceries utilizing virtually every method of transportation available including parcel post, bypass mail, airfreight, truck, rail, barge, steamship and UPS. Shipping is included in the price of non-refrigerated items. Their website has an online catalog and an easy shopping cart interface. http://www.spanalaskasales.com/pp-home.html. There’ a $100 minimum purchase requirement.
JB Bush
Another less expensive option is JB Bush, a freight expediter based in Anchorage. They don’t have a website so it isn’t as convenient, but you’ll get more for your money with a little extra effort. They purchase and ship anything available at the Anchorage Costco and ship it to rural Alaska for the purchase price + 17% + actual shipping cost. Order via email to jbbush@gci.net. JB Bush’s phone numbers in Anchorage are 800-478-7234 or 243-7233 and the fax # is 243-5744.
Fill a box and send it
Pick up a free flat rate box at the Post Office. The postage on the regular sized box is $10.35, the large is $13.95. Then check Ann’s list of requested basic needs and fill the box.
Whatever you can fit into the box travels all the way to Alaska as domestic mail from anywhere in the United States, at the predetermined cost (between $10.35-$13.95), regardless of weight. The box must close completely or it may be returned to you.
An experiment with flat rate shipping from Houston, TX in January found that goods shipped on Tuesday were in the village of Nunam Iqua the following Friday.
I sent boxes that would have cost of $82 to send from Miami to Alaska. With the flat rate boxes it was $29.20!
Tip: Remove excess packaging and use small flexible items such as individually wrapped non-chocolate candy instead of packing material.
Caution: Flat rate boxes have to close — the flaps must touch.

Ann has updated our original list with the following list of things most urgently needed:
In her words –
Larger diapers size 6
Toilet paper (always!! LOL can never have enough)
Minute rice
Pilot Bread ( Sailor Boy w/unsalted tops)
plain spaghetti noodles (they put them in native soups with the rice)
canned milk (got some of the boxes with the liquid milk and they burst and made a mess in some of the boxes)
coffee (have gotten very little of that)
OOOH I really need plastic grocery bags or trash bags when it comes time to distribute the food we have quickly run out of boxes etc. I reuse whatever boxes the food comes in but distributing the 600 lbs from Emmonak wiped out our box supply.
hmmm wonder if anyone has a contact for getting reusable canvas totes donated?? Then we could just have the families bring them back and reuse them for donations over and over again
I LOVE that people are sending ziploc bags, they are really used here and they make great packing material to fill up the flat rate boxes when y’all send them.
never thought about seasonings either, everyone uses A LOT of Lea and Perrins worchestershire sauce out here! Helps cut the gamey flavor of moose etc…
Several moms have mentioned needing Laundry Detergent. I could use ziplocs to divide it up
OOH course dry/powdered milk
umm don’t know what else to add, if I think of anything else I’ll post it
Ann’s original list
Diapers Sizes 1, 3, & 6
Similac Advanced Formula Powder

UPDATE FROM NUNAM IQUA!!
Before I start (LOL ok before I cut and paste and update from anonymousbloggers) I have a request!!
I have a family here that is completely out of food. I did manage to give them 2 boxes of food from the food drive yesterday but I was hoping that their might be 2 or 3 individuals/families that might adopt them for the winter. This is a family of 10. There is an elder, 3 adults, and 6 children in the home. Please email me if you can help them. (nunamiquayouth@yahoo.com)
Ok now the update….
you can view this update including the picture at:
http://anonymousbloggers.wordpress.com/2009/02/03/update-from-nunam-iqua/
UPDATE!!!
February 2, 2009
To date we have distributed well over 1000 lbs of food to over 30 families here in Nunam. I will go to the post office today and collect what has come in since Friday and let y’all know where it came from and the total weight.
Reactions…
Everyone is extremely happy and thankful for the help!!! When we handed out over 700 lbs on Thursday I was getting sooo many thanks and a couple of people actually HUGGED me they were so happy.
After the first load of nearly 100 lbs came in back on Jan. 24 I went to Eskimo Dance Practice and talked to everyone that was there. I shared a couple of letters included in the boxes. Also I showed a picture of a couple of boys from Bothell, WA. In the picture they were in front of the boxes they had sent holding a map of Alaska pointing to where Nunam Iqua was. The boys were really happy, and on the back the mom stated that they were really excited about being able to help.
Everyone at dance practice was amazed at where the donations were coming from. I can’t wait to tell everyone that I got an email over the weekend from NEW ZEALAND!!! A person there contacted me wanting to help. NEW ZEALAND can you imagine????
Before I mentioned that the Seattle Times had contacted me because they had read it was either here or anonymousbloggers.wordpress.com about Nunam receiving packages from Seattle. After asking permission from Kath the Scrappy from Seattle she emailed them back and also provided a lot of information about all of your efforts here on mudflats and anonymousbloggers.
I haven’t heard back from CNN yet. She, Mallory Simon CNN, is gathering as much information as she can to learn about the YK Delta and do a story/report on the area and how to help. Right now we are addressing cultural concerns before we get to specific questions. Also Dennis, emailed me and I forwarded it to Ms. Simon letting her know that he has lots of video of Emmonak.
I have answered nearly 300 emails now from people wanting to help or needing more information. Ok some of those are from the same people like Martha and AK Pi but there have been lots of interest.
As far as local reaction to SP’s lack of reaction, I can’t answer that. I avoid the politics involved, I am more concerned with getting families fed right now.
How long is it taking for packages to get here. Well it took 3 days for flat rate priority packages to arrive here from Houston, TX. And about the same for them to arrive from Honolulu, HI.
I am working on the story that Martha mentioned. It might take a couple days to get it up. My daughter, CC, is getting a cold, so that will limit my time online. So now I am a full-time SAHM since hubby went back to working on Nunam’s Water/sewer project. Ok maybe not FULL-TIME since I work on the Food Drive from home LOL
Well, speaking of which, CC just woke up. Gotta go!!
Talk to y’all later!!

UPDATE!!!!
Ok y’all update time….
Got 5 more boxes of food!!! Can’t give you a weight they aren’t putting weights on a lot of the flat rate boxes. Maybe it’s too depressing for the USPS to know how many lbs they have to ship for that flat fee?? LOL
We received boxes from:
Cleveland, OH
Reed City, MI
And Anchorage, AK
Additionally, I received invoices from SPAN Alaska that showed that donation orders were shipped out on Jan. 23 and Jan. 28
These are donation orders from people in:
Loxahatchee, FL
Centennial, CO
and
Gresham, OR
Those orders total weight is 214 lbs totaling in over $750 from 3 individuals!! QUYANA!!!
The SPAN orders haven’t actually arrived but they are on their way!!!
I am simply OVERWHELMED by the help/donations/support that everyone is sending to lil ol’ Nunam Iqua!!
Also I noticed at least one family received a box while I was at the Post Office. I just happened to be there at the right time to notice them carrying out a flat rate box.
Again, QUYANA CAKNEQ!!!!

Paula C., Alaskan’s do NOT eat Wolves! If you happen to run across someone that concludes we eat Wolves, do me a favor, and “slap them”. See, now that’s what Alaskan’s do, we kinda like to slap dumb people. At least this Alaskan wishes at times she could just “SLAP” dumb hillbillies.
OK, so those of us that live here in what in hell are we going to do w/her? These next two years are going to be one “Wild Ride”!
Elrond HubbardNo Gravatar ,
Palin considers some wildlife as resources (caribou and moose bring hunters, who spend money in the state, thus they are resources), and some as obstructions: wolves kill caribou, therefore they are bad; polar bears and belugas interfere with resource development due to their protected status, therefore they are obstructions. That is her “science.” Killing wolves for simply being the natural predators of caribou, (taking mostly the sick and weak) is typical “dominionist” crap. Killing them in brutal fashion from a low flying plane and calling it sport and predator control is just sick and disgusting. I am not a vegetarian, and I have killed animals for food. I don’t mind regulated hunting of well populated wildlife if it does not involve automatic weapons and high tech advantages, though I have personal disgust for hunters who kill purely for sport and do not use the animal for food. My father was a bow hunter.
Maintaining natural ecosystems and protecting subsistence hunting should take precedence over sport hunting. There is no place in wildlife management for ideological extermination.
Like everyone else, I was appalled at the argument that somehow killing predators is doing prey species and indigenous peoples a favor. I have lived most of my life in a state where hunting is an important part of the culture; people everywhere hit the mountains during “huntin’ season,” some for sport, some for food. I am not necessarily appalled by the killing of animals for food, and though I find it difficult to justify as sport, I know many people who do. So–morality aside, one of the things that “science” (as opposed to Palin-science) shows is that predators play an important role in culling the herds of weak and sick animals. Over time, they act to actually strengthen the species they prey upon.
Hunters who use traditional methods (getting out, hiking until your pants fall off your butt, smearing stuff with animal urine to attract your intended victims) actually do something similar. They cull out the animals vulnerable to their approach–the sick, the slow, the stupid. In a sense, responsible, traditional hunting can actually be a benefit to the prey species as a whole.
If you take this into account, killing predators is actually incredibly foolish. We did this, for much the same reasons Governor P uses–that the predators were killing the species that humans would like to kill instead. And so, in their infinite wisdom, the “experts” decided to “manage” the wildlife by killing the predators. Hey presto–big herds, lots of animals to shoot, right?
Wrong. There were indeed lots of animals–so many that many starved to death. Also, without the all-important culling of the weak and sick, the herds as a whole deteriorated as animals that would normally have been “selected out” of the whole evolutionary process were allowed to breed and reproduce. The predators had actually served an important function. We seem to have learned–I recently saw where wildlife “management” was no longer a matter of killing everything we saw as competition, but of finding a balance between predator and prey species–something they really manage pretty well on their own, given a chance.
I cannot imagine any “science” that would advocate removing such an important tool in the evolutionary process from Nature’s toolbox.
Please……When are people going to wake up? Sarah Palin is poison for this State we need to get her out of office and quick! Someone help get those legislators to have some balls and do the work getting her punished for her actions!
An interesting observation:
Most Americans oppose aerial killing of wolves.
Ashley Judd’s video is bad for Palin on a national level, but bolsters her at home.
Palin’s press release bolsters her at home, but is bad for her on a national level.
Since Palin wants to be on the national level, it is clear that she fell for the bait in Ashley Judd’s trap.
The only thing wrong with the above is that most Alaskans oppose aerial wolf killing, and have voted twice to ban the practice- only to be ignored by Palin and her minions. The press release does reflect the real Sarah Palin, however, very mean, very vindictive, and truly unChristian.
I wish it weren’t so freaking cold. It would be nice if we could get some people interested in standing around with signs asking that our Governor actually Govern instead of going on her self-promotion tour 2009!
@Phyllis –
If you — like me — have written to our legislators, you quickly realize that it is an exercise in futility to either ask, or expect, them to raise the question of whether or not our Governor is doing her job properly.
I’ve written & written & written, received several pithy responses, and very few supportive ones. The rest are laying low, like the scared little spineless worms that they are.
DoW has been trying to get this out there for months and I guess Ashley Judd stepped up to the plate!
I have been signing petitions and they send to her for months now and not a peep! Now b/c it went National she’s all defensive? And her science….?
The quote from ADN:
The process is much more secretive now and nominations are not shared or scrutinized like they once were.
“Our perception now is that these practices no longer prevail and the rule seems to be that only input from hunting and trapping interests is valued,” the letter states. regarding the Wildlife board…they want more Non-hunters to represent people who come to Alaska to “hunt” with their camera’s! But SHE doesn’t! Kill, baby, kill!!!!
And Now she is Paling around with a Dog killer! Oh and how dare DoW get us to give our hard earned $ to them…Maybe because we care about Wolves being slaughtered???? Oh we should be donating our hard earned $ to a good cause sarahpac, you know Repub welfare!!!! (I think not) I will donate $ to defenders and glad they finally got enough to expose this b*tch! As for impeaching her, I’ve given up on the spineless leg. I email everything I hear to the FBI let them come in and clean things up. Scrub, rinse, repeat!!!
SMR,
Are the legislators scared or is the fact that SP isn’t doing her job making it easier for them? I just keep thinking “there is something in it for them” when I see them ignore the blatant disregard for the State of Alaska displayed by your governor.
I sure feel your frustration at being ignored over and over again. Something just has to give…it took a while for Blago to come to justice so I guess there is hope that Sarah will have to face the music one of these days, too.
Oh and I forgot this description…. Reprehensible. Hypocritical. Extreme fringe group. Audacious. Twisting the truth. Shame
Is a perfect description of her…Barbie!
Barbie and lackey’s like BM(bowel movement) Bigmouth Meg! Asshats for Barbie everyone of them…Maybe she promised them key positions in the Bighouse, ugh “Whitehouse”????lololololol!
@Kath the Scrappy from Seattle
so sorry for your loss
as for commenting on Palin and her continuous crazy, unethical behavior…I got nothing. she’s depleting my energy (as I’m sure it’s her goal for all of us).
I pray for you Alaska…you need it!
I am glad to see that SP responded so quickly to the Defenders spot with Judd, which I take to mean she is “concerned” about her image. She needs to answer the questions put forth by Sauerkraut, but of course that will never happen. There have been numerous articles and white papers written on the subject of scientific wildlife management where wolves are necessary in the predator/prey balance. It is now time for the Department of the Interior to step in and do their job and stop this brutal practice of shooting wolves from the air.
“I think it’s awful HARD and expensive to actually recall or impeach someone. ”
Illinois just did it in less time than it takes for Palin to shoot a moose. or a wolf.
in any event, we did it pretty damn quickly. less than 2 months.
I wrote her a letter explaining that she shouldn’t use the line,” hard earned money”! and that DOW doesn’t distort anything,we donate because we want to.Then I wrote that she herself was the distorter of facts! and then said that DOW has more members that the entire state of Alaska, and that 60% of Alaska is federal land!So we have every right to question what ever and whomever we like, when it comes to that land. We as Americans, will continue to question what goes on,on these lands, there or elsewhere. Then I proceded to say that she was just protecting sport and trophy hunters, not the substinace hunters.I also said that Almost all true hunters do not like or agree with aeiral hunting, saying that it violates the basic ethics of hunting and fair chase. At the end of it I said that we think she is the one who is not honest and so on. after I ended the letter I wrote a PS,saying that I had made a copy of the letter, in case I was going to be accused of saying anything off base. I think I might just Put that letter on all the blogs and send it to all my contacts to.
@crystalwolf, as the saying goes, “it takes one, to know one”. SP and her mouth piece, just look like their talking about themselves, with their name calling…and thinking others believe them, not! Even those that once wanted to give her half a chance have given up trying to defender, she’s now left with only those that have half a brain.

Your letter sounds much more polite than mine. I completely lost it. Mine was true hate mail. Doesn’t make a bit of difference anyway whether we are polite or sound like mouth-foaming nutballs. I definitely came off as a nutball this time. Oh well.
Ivy Freeborn-
If Stapleton’s words and influence are assisting the worst of Palin’s PR and strategy mistakes, lets hope she stays the most trusted friend. Remember her innocent look while the turkeys were shredded?
@Linda, yep getting rid of a Gov that is making your state the laughing stock of the country can be done PDQ, when you have a legis. with a backbone. Unfortunately AK doesn’t seem to have one of those. The good people that are trying to get rid of her have been doing all they can to wake up the brainless and clueless, less hope for the people in the villages that more of the AK legis wake-up and show their Gov the door, before she completely bankrupts the state.
Along with those pesky wolves, Gov JetSet also gets credit for her pricey lawsuits against protecting the disappearing polar bears and the beluga whales in Cook Inlet. All in the name of drill, baby, drill. I wonder how much those court costs are adding to Palin’s grossly underestimated AK budget shortfall…
Lawsuits against protecting living creatures – Winky is a real fiscal conservative, you betcha!

Awesome letter!
As usual, Sarah has made herself an opportunity to get more press coverage. This time she has used Defenders of Wildlife as her venue. : (
kateincanada-
I agree…let’s hope SP keeps people like Meg around for a long, long time. Not only do they deserve each other, they can’t help but look foolish every time they open their mouths. It is just their nature to do so. I doubt that is the kind of person Newt was thinking of when he said that Sarah needed to surround herself with intelligent advisors. However, Sarah just can’t take advice. She knows best. So, I’m perfectly willing to let her keep choosing who to pal around with. She seems to know how to pick ‘em, you betcha! Of course, I may end up with whiplash from all of the head shaking I do each time they put out a press release…

YES! GREAT LETTER
It’s a shame Alaskans can’t stage a MASSIVE rally outside the state legislature about SP to get it through to everyone how bad she is and has been for Alaska. It would take that I think since they can disregard e-mails so easily.
I think the only reason she responded was that DOW used two awful photographs of her. There is another pic out there of her, which I would have liked to have seen included….the scrunched up mouth one. Her vanity got the better of her,
Alaska, you have my sympathy…I know it must be so frustrating!!
The question is, when will Alaskans and their legislators have had enough?
That’s a question I ask frequently. I have to admit that I just don’t “get” Alaskans. It’s a mystery to me that someone who cares only about herself and her political career can still be a popular Governor in Alaska.
Yes, Alaska needs to be one big moose/caribou farm for all the out-of-state hunters who pay big bucks to come up here and MUST have something for their efforts/money. Real hunters know that not every hunt is successful.
Can we get a list of the “scientists” who are scientifically managing our wildlife and what degrees they’ve earned that qualifies them to mange wildlife?
wonder if there is an indoor public building where people might gather here in the cold….complete with headgear and signs, petitions, etc. Might be fun to have an indoor rally……what would it take?
Women Who Run With The Wolves (07:44:37) :
Paula C., Alaskan’s do NOT eat Wolves! If you happen to run across someone that concludes we eat Wolves, do me a favor, and “slap them”. See, now that’s what Alaskan’s do, we kinda like to slap dumb people. At least this Alaskan wishes at times she could just “SLAP” dumb hillbillies.
OK, so those of us that live here in what in hell are we going to do w/her? These next two years are going to be one “Wild Ride”!
__________
I know you don’t eat wolves, but I swear on other comment board Palin defenders (obviously NOT from Alaska) said that. More than one of them.
Not that I would be suprised to learn that Palin eats wolf pups
Impeachment – Don’t we all wish it could happen to SP? I want to add to the messages already sent by others regarding this procedure. Gov. Gray Davis’ impeachment took place in California (all those years ago :>) and he was replaced by the “Grabinator”) who was then elected at the next juncture.
The immpeahcment process was very, very expensive and bankrolled mostly by, and started by, one individual with very deep pockets. Here we are with 2 partial terms for Arnold already behind him, and the state issued IOU’s this week because there is no money in the coffers to pay bills. The figure in arrears this week, if it has not changed yet today, 40 billion dollars, that is a b for billion.
Now, the reason for the impeachment of Davis was because he was not fiscally conservative enough. Davis never issued any IOU’s, and he would have personally choked on a 40 billion dollar state deficit, I think.
It seems the instigators of the impeachment were capable of “choosing” the replacement and supposedly the financial situation would result in a glowing clean up in the state, fix the infrastructure etc. to make us all proud. You all know the drill.
If there were enough capital that came forward to finance impeachment of SP, I am not clear on whether a replacement would be ushered into place that would be as bad or worse than the “chosen” one we in California inherited.
I believe, awful as it will be, the best, most likely successful approach is to keep all the insane, insipid, lying remarks about Palin and her shallowness circulating. Whatever we can do to get it out in the media again and again and again will pay off in the election process upcoming.
This is the only hope I see, given how California has fared after all the bucks were thrown at the impeachment process, promises were made and not fulfilled, numerous failed attempts at budget control, Arnold’s going forward with an idea then retreating and withdrawing when it failed, apologies abound etc.
Maybe our vote is the only answer much of the time, preceded by voicing our discontent, and pointing to unsubstantiated false statements by SP and other incompetent rascals. I am not suggesting for one minute that we rest at all from plying the media with facts regarding the despicable behavior of SP, and those other worthless public servants serving her.
hi everyone… late to the party as usual, but can i just say that this makes my blood boil? This woman is a monster, and such a product of the republican movement of the last 8 years… a party that twists the facts, making black appear white, up is down, forward is backward, where people who tell the truth or question government practices are called unpatriotic, where an alternative universe has been created and we are continually hit with misinformation until we start to believe the lies.
You poor Alaskans, saddled with the poster child of the Republican movement. Thank you once again AKM, for bringing the truth to light. Everytime i think i’m done with the absolute dispising of Sarah Palin, oops she does it again!
ps-until SOME believe the lies… we mudpuppies are too smart for that!

Davis wasn’t impeached. He was recalled. Mostly because he couldn’t get enough done in the hopelessly gridlocked Cali politics, and because he wanted to let the car registration tax reduction order expire and go back to the level it had been before. Ahnold has had the same problems but he is flashy, not gray. California likes flash. Too bad we don’t have any substance in our politics.
Wanna know why the lies? (05:48:33) :
I, for one would like to see this article in all the Alaska Newspapers….maybe under, letter to the editor, something. Very well written and to the point. Out of the park as the Immoral Minority put it, and he is soooo right. Thank you.

Decisions in Juneau are made by the arm twisting of legislators by heavy hunting/gun lobbyists, guides, and those who stand to make alot of $$$ from (successful) outside hunters. The last ballot, where the voters were duped into allowing aerial wolf hunting, was worded so convolutely that too many people thought they were voting to protect the wolves and bears, only to find out the opposite was the case…in fact on close examination that whole ballot was so rigged and worded that even the most careful well informed voter was confused. We had voted at least 2 times in the past to be rid of this practice.
Hadn’t noticed the pics of her before, but yes, she looks mean and disheveled in that cover photo. What she really looks like w/ out a high paid artist.
LA TIMES: On his respected Trail Blazers blog, longtime Texas politics observer Wayne Slater wonders out loud: “With GOP super-star Sarah endorsing national party wannabe Rick, could a Palin-Perry 2012 ticket be in our future?”
It could make sense. Republican national tickets typically do much better with governors than legislators. Texas is a rich source of conservative political donors. And it would get the GOP back with a genuine Southerner on the ticket, historically a strong suit and one that would help counter Barack Obama’s likely choice of current Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, the new head of the Democratic National Committee, to replace the aging Joe Biden, who’ll be 70 by then.
There are, however, two minor matters for the Alaskan and Texan to address first: Both members of a potential P2 ’12 ticket need to win reelection to their statehouses next year. Other than that, it’s an easy straight shot.
REELECTION being the key word there.
I’ll bet $100 that Gov Big Hair will not re-election, if he even makes it through the Primaries. I dont know one single supporter, the few Repubs I know would vote KBH.
Support the PAW Act – End Alaska’s Aerial Hunting Program!
Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com
Alaska is truly our nation’s last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.
Congress passed a law over thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska’s lead. It’s time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.
Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America’s Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska’s brutal aerial hunting program — and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.
Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller’s PAW Act.
Betzy…Grey Davis was recalled rather than impeached I think. I am Canadian, so am not really sure of the difference, except perhaps in the case of recall, there is an immediate election…and with impeachment, the Lt. Gov. steps in.
Anyone else able to explain the difference?
Thanks.
“It’s a shame Alaskans can’t stage a MASSIVE rally outside the state legislature about SP to get it through to everyone how bad she is and has been for Alaska. It would take that I think since they can disregard e-mails so easily.”
Why stage it outside the legislature? From what I understand she’s never there. Why not stage it in front of her house? Then maybe she’d actually know it happened before somebody who reads Anonymous Bloggers told her about it. Ok, that was snarky.
@wowee, what’s that?!
scary
@TXChick4Obama
I hope you get to keep your $100
@Bodie P
“Why not stage it in front of her house?”
that was not snarky…that is brilliant
If only more of the people who dont like what SP does, lived in Alaska.
““The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. Alaskans depend on wildlife for food and cultural practices which can’t be sustained when predators are allowed to decimate moose and caribou populations. Our predator control programs are scientific and successful at protecting vulnerable wildlife. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.”
When she says Alaskans depend on wildlife for food…. and cultural practices… who is she referring to, because there is NOT ONE native on the board that decides those practices. She also says this is scientific…who are these scientists and it would be nice to get their info on this to see if they really back her…also, isnt she suing the us govt for belugas…
I havent read any of her reactions, but … I try not to comment on her antics, they are old and childish. The only time I talk about it, is regarding the posts here.
as for impeachment, the men there, those leaders, have only one thing on their minds, they wouldnt stand up for the rights of the people. just my humble opinion here.
I wasnt going to donate, but I will now. t to Defenders of wildlife.
I too had no intention of donating, until after having read Governor Palin’s inconclusive and misleading remarks. I see this not as a donation now, but as a gift.
Is Sarah running for re-election as governor in 2010? Wouldn’t she have to start campaigning or at least announce soon?
As John Toppenberg of the Alaskan Wildlife Alliance puts it, the 60,000 square miles where the cull takes place are mainly used by “fat-ass trophy hunters on all-terrain vehicles, not Native peoples who need them for subsistence, with rare exceptions.”
Critics say Palin has shown a strong bias for hunters. Her staff recently wrote a statute that would permit her hand-picked Board of Game, whose seven members all favor killing predators, to operate without written guidelines. Another bill, currently undergoing legal review, would prohibit Alaskans from putting pro-wildlife propositions on the ballot, by declaring wildlife a “state asset” whose fate can be determined only by the state .
Read the entire story:
http://washingtonindependent.com/5517/predatory-practices
Palin’s dismal environmental record makes environmentalists cringe. She’s not convinced that global warming is man-made, sued to stop the listing of polar bears as an endangered species, and moved forward a mining plan that some believe threatens wildlife in Bristol Bay—her daughter’s namesake.
None of this seems to bug Alaskans overmuch. “We’ve got a lot of, ‘Kill them all, let God sort ‘em out’ mentality up here,” says Toppenberg, who was a cop in Colorado before moving to Alaska in the 1990s. “Hopefully, the lower 48 will become aware of the extremeness of Sara Palin’s positions. She’s for cut, kill and drill. Frankly, that’s not even good for tourism.”
About a decade ago a successful program of wolf translocation and sterilization occurred to benefit the 40-mile caribou herd near Tok. Alpha pairs in each wolf pack were sterilized and other pack members were moved long distances. The pairs were able to hold their territories over time despite lack of reproduction. Wolf predation on caribou was reduced and the caribou herd grew. While some object to these procedures, they are an alternative to lethal control and they did produce positive results.
In the same area prior to the sterilization program a diversionary feeding experiment occurred where train-killed moose carcasses were provided in spring to divert predators from killing newborn moose. There were limited positive results but the program’s short duration precluded full evaluation of this technique.
There is much research on moose documenting the positive effects of high quality habitat and good nutrition on increased reproduction and improved survival. The best method of improving moose habitat in remote areas is with fire, either allowing wildfires to burn or setting prescribed fires. In recent years vast areas of Alaska have burned but we have not yet evaluated benefits to moose.
Clearly, there are alternatives to lethal wolf control. Costs may be high and logistics may be difficult but in the end such costs may be an investment in good public policy. I think it is fair to say that the BOG has thus far mainly given lip service to non-lethal alternatives in their apparent preoccupation with aerial shooting.
Sky – thanks for that great info! I knew there had to be a better way, and you explained it so well. I have always thought of Alaskans as wanting to conserve their wildlife – the ones I knew when I lived there certainly were. Has this changed – are people all becoming Palins? I sure hope not.
Thanks for your post.

In Milwaukee there was a recall of a group of County Supervisors who voted themselves
a huge pension bundle. {It was a very complex matter and even some of the County
accountants didn’t read the fine print.}
I will try to check it out, as I don’t remember the details; but Milwaukee has about the
population of Alaska, and it happened pretty quickly because a relatively small group of people got super-pissed off and made the special election or whatever it was
happen, and the rest of the city/county ‘voted the crooks out’…..and they really
were not even crooks, someof them just weren’t paying attention, and they all profited.
However, the pension provisions did stay as re-done, and it a huge drain on a very
burdened city/county goverment and its taxpayers.
But my main point is that it can be done if people feel it in their pocketbooks.
Thanks Ann, the email & names just went out to you.
the picketing of Legislators would be sending a strong visual about your message. And it would garner media attention. It’s more businesslike than going to her house, lol.
The legs aren’t going to bail on her until they have to, be it an investigation, charges or an indictment. Just like she waited to bail on Ted until after the trial.
I suggest monitoring her plans the rest of her term. And make as big a stink over ANYTHING questionable or unethical. That’s addressing business. Like the Valley Dairy or the Clean Coal Plant, or the lack of accurate budget or her reason for the 500 mile road to nowhere, or the gas pipeline, or ACES……..ya got lots of ammo!
Complaining to the legs about these things (and the why) does make a difference. Writing to all the newspapers editors or opinion columns does make a difference, as does calling the radio talk shows and also discussing these “Gov Projects” with others really does help.
If we move it away from the “bloggers hate mail” to focusing on her “real job and her choices” it will be more fact oriented. I mean blogging here is fine, lol, we need to vent about her. But when it comes to media article comments I think we should keep pointing the focus back to the “issues that she’s responsible to as gov.”
AND try to keep hammering on her campaign promise of being Open and Transparent.
I just read this for the first time today………cripes what goes on in politcal parties behind the scene is hard to believe.
But articles in major newspapers and letters to the editors do make a diff…..read the end part where things finally begin to unravel.

I you listen to Ron Young and Ted Steven’s you’d know why folks up there are not fazed by this line of thinking, they’ve had it pounded into them for literally a very long time!

Say No to Palin – thanks for your direction on what we need to continue doing!
Hey, Sarah….
The photos of you in the DOW video are really unflattering. They look like something out of the archives of The Third Reich.
That’s what has really got you going, gal, hasn’t it? Vanity is such a severe taskmistress, eh?
Your sanctimonius press release may have carried some weight if you had demonstrated moral courage and outrage on isssues in the past. Unfortunately…..your protective howls for the hardworking Americans being parted from their money by DOW sound very hollow when seen in the context of your ignoring the starving and freezing Americans in your own state.
Baby girl, you’re fighting all the wrong battles….and you’re too dense to know it.

Rick Steiner is a professor at the University of Alaska and wrote this very inclusive article about Palins’ environmental stances, which frankly all suck. She doesn’t seem to understand that land, oil, and wildlife are all nonrenewable. Everything about her is only self-serving, every man for themselves, you all are going to h=ll anyway.
Oh I meant to say on Gryphen’s blog…
This bimbo has been so programmed by her “shoot ‘em up” daddy and First Dud that I doubt she has a rational thought – certainly not a gentle, feminine one. I think that is why she is so disliked by most intelligent women. She reeks of abdication of femininity in favor Stepford obedience. Pathetic.

Subsistence hunting is practical and honorable.
The goal should be a balanced and natural eco-system, and humans have broken that balance by being too “successful” with technology for their own good.
The way the arial hunting and trophy hunting is managed in Alaska today is simply repetitive murder of animals that should be considered our valuable partners in that eco-system.
Here in Oregon, we have deer over-population followed by starvations and diseases running wild on a regular cycle because the natural predator population of wolves and puma have been decimated by humans. The deer population then suddenly dips dangerously low on a downcycle when diseases and starvation due to overgrazing decimate the herd. Every four or five years or so it seems that the deer have disappeared for good, but they always seem to come back and in two or three short years they over-populate again and then we have to have a “long season” where basically the hunters are told to shoot as many as possible — but its too late by then, the deer are already overpopulated, sick , and starving. Someday that cycle is going to stop because the diseases will kill them all off and some hunter will shoot the last healthy doe. The elk population has had similar problems, but less extreme in the peaks and valleys of their numbers. Elk have been better managed to some degree, but the herds were very nearly destroyed completely in the 70′s and 80′s and strict regulation was required to bring their numbers back. My brother takes an elk every year, and just this year has reported several illegal hunters taking more than their tags allow or even search-light hunting at night.
As for wolves, they were exterminated completely from Oregon. Recently, Oregon started on a balanced recovery plan and reintroduction of the grey wolf has been going on for a couple of years.
But local sheep ranchers have shot the wolves that have been reintroduced and legally protected by the Federal Fish, Game & Wildlife Agency. When the deer are not abundant, we have puma sightings in urban or suburban areas. The rare attack on livestock then drives locals into a frenzy and somebody’s dog gets shot by accident, mistaken for a puma. Then two or three puma get slaughtered and the villager blood-lust is sated until the next sighting. In all my years, I know of only one puma attack on a human, and that person collided with the cat on a mountain-biking trail so I think the cat might have been a little provoked.
I had one neighbor tell me last year he thought we had a puma taking neighborhood cats for snacks -sure enough about 15 cats were missing in our neighborhood. My rottweilers were going nuts in their kennel every night so I thought maybe, just maybe, there really was a puma daring to enter our edge-of-the-city community. But then that same neighbor found cat bones and carcasses under his backyard decking when clearing a raccoon nest under his house. This year we had an over-population of rabbits in the nearby woods and fields, followed by a surge in coyotes, and now that its winter housecats are disappearing even faster. My neighbor’s still looking for that puma. Meanwhile, there are now skunks under his porch thriving on what they get from his unlocked garbage cans. I am tempted to let my younger rottie out of the yard to go over there and stir that nest up… he caught a skunk in my yard once and seemed to like getting sprayed.
The most fragile part of the eco-system is the predator population. In the natural balance, there are so few predators in proportion to the herds they manage ( as long as humans aren’t the ones killing off the herds too fast! ) that it takes a lot longer for the predator population to bounce back after it is knocked way down. The herds are designed to come back more quickly, Mother Nature has seen to that in her original plan.
Its much better to simply allow the predators to thrive. Back off, and let the natural predator cycle run, since the predator population will balance out in proportion to the size of the herds available as long as humans haven’t over-hunted the herds. And in that case a temporary sport hunting ban will bring the herd back. Humans also tend to shoot the strong members of the herd, leaving the sick to spread disease. Wolves take the weak and diseased, thereby actually strengthening the herd. They are much better caretakers of their prey than we will ever be. If we want better quality animals to hunt, let the wolves do their job, dammit!
What Alska needs right now is not to reduce natural predators. Alaska needs to limit hunting to only subsistence tags and let the herds balance to a level where they support the natural wolf population instead of blaming human-caused herd population imbalances on the wolves.
Sarah need to reign in her own blood-lusting friends, and her own blood-lusting self.
Sarah Palin once again is opening her mouth without knowing the facts. First, Defenders of Wildlife is hardly an “extremist FRINGE group.” Their membership just may be larger than the population of Alaska. And last year, they raised $35million in contributions, grants, and member fees. $35million! Secondly, Palin’s “science” is tarnished. USFWS biologists do not support her claims of the necessity of “aerial culling” of wolves. Alaska Fish and Game may support it, but then perhaps a lot of that comes from the fact that their budget increases if aerial “culling” (read slaughter) is supported by the Palin administration. Never in Alaskan history has the wolf population decimated the ungulate populations in your state, Alaska. Never. Degradation of your environment by pipelines, encroaching civilization etc. may have influenced the health of ungulate populations, but not wolves. If Palin ever actually read anything other than Machiavelli (and I’m probably stretching it even there), maybe she’d have something intelligent to say. Now and then. But probably not. As Einstein said: Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.” I’m putting my money on the “great spirits” of the true Alaskans.
I thought she was a right-to-lifer? Or is that just the lives SHE declares should be saved?
What a sin to kill these beautiful creatures… to kill any creatures for that matter. All wish to live. Go Vegan

Here’s a link to a local public radio news show that discussed wildlife issues, with the Alaska rep for that lunatic fringe DOW group on (wonder if Bible Spice even knew that they have official representation here in AK). I was only able to listen to the first part of it, but one hopes it was enlightening, listen & pass it on:
http://kska.org/category/communityforum/
Here are some interesting facts about DOW:
-Founded in 1947.
-Chosen as America’s Best Wildlife Charity Fund in 2005 by Reader’s Digest.
-About the same number of donating members as the entire population of Alaska. ( The membership numbers will go up even more precipitously with the exposure of Palin’s anti-wildlife policies. )
Reader’s Digest!?!?! Yep…that would definitely qualify DOW as an “extreme fringe group.”
Whenever Palin opens her mouth, she knows NOT whereof she speaks. Reader’s Digest, fer cryin’ out loud! Do some research before you open your yap, Sarah!
And where exactly is Sarah Palin right now? Does anyone know?
Didn’t she have a couple photo ops yesterday and Tuesday?

Dog Eat Dog: Palin Patron’s Checkered Past
Malek would feel right at home in Alaskan politics. But there’s one sordid tale in Malek’s background that might give Palin the pit bull some pause. As Washington Post columnist Colbert King reported a few years ago, Malek was involved in a gruesome incident in his home state of Illinois, shortly after he graduated from West Point.
In the early morning hours of August of 1959, sheriff deputies outside of Peoria discovered a vehicle covered in blood and a group of drunken young men, also covered in blood, nearby. Fred Malek was one of the five young men arrested for the crime, though the charges against him were eventually dropped.
Malek’s come a long way since that drunken barbecue and canine slaughter. But the Alaska pit bull had better watch her back.

Well said. No matter what, BS’s absence is ridiculous, and politically asinine as well.
I would like to find out how much of subsistence living is done by natives in the interior of Alaska on caribou/moose, and how much subsistence living is coastal and depends on fish.
We know there a fisheries crises developed. Are they claiming this wolf hunt is solely to benefit native hunters?
Are there any spokespeople available from the natives themselves? I would really like to hear what they have to say.
Lol
and I must add, Sandra, that you raise a lot of good points that I want to look into. But Machiavelli is DEFINITELY stretching it!

Given the money Palin has managed to swindle from the Alaskan people in her propaganda campaign attempting to justify the mass slaughter of these magnificent animals, given the opposition voiced by the Alaskan people, the International outcry….why has this demon not been kicked out at Governor. While Clinton got nailed for an indiscretion, this woman is a total insult to anyone who has a brain and should be outlawed, banned, whatever it takes to remove her power of control over the Alaskan human population and her ability to dessimate an entire population of wildlife.
Is she merely using the wolf slaughter to produce more publicity, even if it is negative? It certainly keeps her in the limelight doesn’t it. Like a bad child dancing in front the TV set when you are trying to watch your favourite program.
