Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Skullduggery in the Alaska GOP – Birds are Singing!

Here’s the latest rumor on the Talis Colberg “resignation.”

If you believe the little birds that are twittering in Juneau and elsewhere, we’ve got one interesting behind closed doors deal between Sarah Palin, Senate President Gary Stevens, and House Minority Leader Mike Chenault.  It goes something like this.

Talis Colberg did not resign.  He WAS resigned by Palin.  (kerthunk…under the bus)

The Alaska Legislature and the governor can conveniently blame him for any and all wrongdoings in the Troopergate investigation, tie it up in a nice little bow, and transport it far far away from anyone with the last name Palin.

And in exchange for Stevens & Chenault ensuring that there is no further investigation of the Palins or their cohorts regarding the firing of Walt Monegan, the Branchflower Report, or the inconsistencies in the Petumenos report, what do they get from the governor?

In exchange, Stevens and Chenault will not receive vetoes to projects – yet to be named – in their districts.

Typical Alaska GOP politics. I wonder if Palin had Randy Reudrich help broker the deal. Here we have Mike Chennault, the sole remaining Alaska legislator who was a very big player in the VECO handouts, together with Stevens and Palin, both of whom received thousands from Bill Allen’s company, working together to hide the truth. (From Phil Munger at Progressive Alaska)

After you pry your chin off the desk, do contact your representatives in the house and senate and tell them what you think.  Phone calls are best.  And a shout out to the little birds who sound like they’re fed up.

Hmmm…maybe Palin needed to do some yoga stretches before she throwing Colberg under the bus?

As much as she loves being fawned upon, saving herself and her husband from a real investigation over Troopergate would probably take priority.

Colberg must have had people working for him for the last 2 years who feel some loyalty, and who know just what is going on.

Please make sure Talis Colberg DOES NOT get into the position of Federal DA for District of Alaska. He would have a conflict of interest and be in a position to block any Federal investigation ofg the Palin administration.

    Good Evening Everyone,

Sorry I haven’t been posting lately, since CNN aired the story I have been answering emails (80 so far) and phone calls, and even was interviewed by the ADN.

Then today my hubby and I had to go get groceries in Emmonak. Wanted to go early and get back early but it was -30 below zero this morning so we waited until it was -16 below and then took off by snowmobile.

Just got home, put away groceries and picked up CC and had dinner. So I am here. I haven’t had time to read the last 3 days worth of posts but just wanted to give you a little update.

Mallory Simon, CNN emailed me and said they asked her to do a TV report!! Not certain when Kyle Hopkins with ADN will post a story, maybe he already has??

I need to relax a bit, the 25 mile trail was very rough today and very cold. So I probably won’t post anything else today, but will work on another update tomorrow….there is much more to share!!! My hands are just tired b/c I drove my own snowmobile today.

If the e-mails are released and the Dep’t of Law pursues the ethics complaints, it will make all Repugnicans look as bad as they are.

Also, you don’t think it had something to do with his bad advice re: use of state transportation resources to get help to the villages and that there is a problem with her using e-mail accounts and not preserving the e-mails as required in the AK Public Records Act. I hope he is this ethical and she’s thrown him under the bus. Hopefully he or others will talk and present evidence.

She may be planning on circumventing the requirements that she appointment the recommendees of the Judicial Review Council and may be planning on appointing Colberg to the Alaska Supreme Court opening.

Next AG? Van Flein or one of the folks that represented the 6 who fought the Troopergate investigations. Or she may appointment an oil company attorney. No matter what, they must be loyal to her, uphold only her interpretations of the law.

Because, basically, she’s just one big scandal generating machine.

We’re to believe that, on one hand, they’re responsible public servants with their districts’ benefit at heart……but on the other hand, they are willing to subvert justice to obtain that benefit? Situational ethics, anyone? Stretches credulity…

Naw….if it’s indeed true about a deal, chances are good that substantial personal gain is in the exchange. If they’re dirty on one side of the deal, they’ll be dirty on the other side.

Alaskan Attorney General Resigns: Palin Protected – Shannyn Moore

WhinerX49er wrote on Huffpost 10:25 pm on 2/10/2009:
“Talis is a highly highly intelligent, thoughtful and reserved scholar who brought considerable legal knowledge and great personal integrity to the position”

As someone who worked for Talis during his term I can say this statement is absolutely true. But those qualities didn’t necessarily serve him well as Alaska’s AG, an appointed position whose function is to promote the political agenda of the state’s governor through legal briefs and pursuit of public policy initiatives in the Department of Law’s interaction with the legislature and the courts.

There should be no question the “legal advice” he gave the subpoena recipients came from Palin’s office. That’s the nature of the Alaska AG/Governor’s relationship. Any “highly highly intelligent, thoughtful and reserved scholar,” with “considerable legal knowledge and great personal integrity,” would find it hard to both follow the law in this regard, and serve the Governor in her attempt to avoid embarrassement.

I wonder if he is “taking the fall” for Palin, or if he thought, “screw this, I’m going back to private practice and teaching,” rather than continue to serve Palin’s narrow personal agenda.

Palin said Colberg did a great job and handled all the state issues before him well. Palin said one of the things she most liked about Colberg was that he was an outsider from the private sector. He didn’t have ties to lobbyists or special interests, she said.

“What I have mostly appreciated from Talis is he’s really helped to give faith to those who’d lost faith in our government and those that questioned for whom our public officials served,” she said.

But Anchorage Democratic Rep. Mike Doogan said it helps to have some of the skills of a politician in a job like that. He said Colberg didn’t seem comfortable with the public back and forth of the job.

“He seemed to be a guy that was not very well suited to his position in the first place,” Doogan said.

All this talk about ice cream flavors? Perhaps the truth about “DairyGate” and the cronyisms and illegal loans being given out by the Director of Agriculture and Palin’s best friend, who is the Chairwoman of the board of Agriculture. It’s all on Andrew Halcro’s site in several articles over the last year. The ADN refuses to touch it. It was Palin’s first huge failed attempt. Talis Colberg was well aware of the problem and brushed it under the rug. The new Matanuska Creamery has had 30,000 lbs of cheese with Listeria, Staph and E. Coli, and two milk recalls for chemicals in the milk. Then there is the illegal loan given to two ex dairy farmers who defaulted on over $4million in State loans. State statutes were broken-once you default you do not qualify for another loan…unless you are friends and childhood babysitters of Sarah Palin. There is a huge effort to cover up what has gone out there and the Legislative audit is digging and sniffing around.

The whole Creamery mess boggles my mind. The recent deaths due to contaminated peanut products have the feds out in full force in GA. The state officials as well as the peanut company officials have all be called to testify in Washington as they try to piece together that disaster. How does 30,000lbs of contaminated cheese get by AK inspectors without a second look? Two milk recalls didn’t raise a red flag for inspectors? Is it that someone actually has to die before the issue is important enough to investigate?

Of course Colberg resigned ( or was told to resign). I am sure this was the “deal” before he “advised” those subpoenaed that they need not repsond. My guess is he said “let’s give it a shot, buy some time, if it fails…I’ll go.” Nevertheless, the minute those contempt findings were had…YOU HAD TO KNOW HE HAD TO GO! Sounds like “politics as usual” to me.

This fascinating color-coded timeline dates back to 1964 and is a detailed chapter and verse of GINO’s activities.

It appears Jotman tried to chronicle it all with an objective tone, but if you’ve lived on Mars all of your life and had never heard of SP, you could not help but draw a less than flattering conclusion on your own.

Man it just keeps getting more and more weird by the minute.
It is getting that you don’t know what to believe. Is there really any one at the capital that knows how to tell the truth or can’t be bought off?
As for SP, she lies about her family. They are all angels, YA right. Ask Tripp why he is really in the service. Her daughter..shame on her. Todd when did we elect him. Go play with your toys!
what about rural Alaska?? what about our kids and Health care?? What about education? WHAT ABOUT JUST PUTTING THE WHOLE PALIN CARTEL ON THE BUS AND SEND THEM PACKING. I AM SICK OF ALL THE GAMES! The endless LIES! Its always someone else’s fault with that bunch.
SP and her whole gang and family think they are above the law and thats the bottom line.
Its time for Alaskans to stand up and say enough is enough!!
What happen to the people of Ak. when did we turn into a bunch of sheep??
Its time to let our elected (Note OUR ELECTED,) officals know, we have had enough of all this. What a bunch of game players!!!! Playing a game that we end up the losers. Shame on the whole bunch.

    ——

Could you please cite original sources? Halcro’s blog isn’t an original source. Something from, say, the office of the State Veterinarian or DEC would do.

Two independent labs were unable to culture listeria from samples taken at the same time as the SOA DEC samples. There has never been staph or e.coli found in any products from the new creamery. The creamery won’t accept milk that has bovine growth hormones (BHT) or sub-theraputic levels of anti-biotics. That’s fine, because none of the dairy farmers in Alaska use that stuff anyway. They all produce “natural” milk. The reason it’s not “organic” is because they have to use commercial fertilizers on their hay meadows.

The State Veterinarian presided over the destruction of $250,000 worth of cheese. It wasn’t put on the market.

Repeating inaccurate information destroys your credibility, boo-boo bear.
