Alaska’s Rural Crisis Back on the Front Page

The crisis in Western Alaska was back in the news as the top story on CNN again this morning.  Our guest blogger, and donation coordinator for the village of Nunam Iqua will check in on Tuesday with an update.  Kudos, once again to Dennis Zaki and all who have helped get the message out there, and supported the effort with your donations.

SNL Strikes Again

Well, it ain’t no Tina Fey, but SNL spoofed the little cabal of Republicans who enjoyed getting together and playing “obstructionists” this past week.  See John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and yes, our own Lisa Murkowski, along with others.  Click HERE to see the video on Crooks and Liars.

Lawyered Up and Ready to Go!

Sherry Johnston, mother of Levi Johnston, fiancee of Bristol Palin, got a new court date.

The 42-year-old pleaded not guilty last month to six felony counts of possessing and selling the prescription painkiller OxyContin.

Investigators with the Mat-Su drug unit arrested Johnston in December at her home off Wasilla-Fishhook Road. She sold pills in the Wasilla Target parking lot to informants working with investigators, according to court documents filed by Alaska State Troopers

She showed up on Friday morning, this time with son Levi, daughter Mercedes, an unnamed teenage boy and a high-priced, high-profile lawyer.  Last time she was completely alone.  Her new attorney, Rex Butler, asked for a delay so he could get up to speed on the case.  The new court date is set for May 17.  One wonders, though, since Ms. Johnston requested a public defender on January 5, stating that she was disabled, owed money for medical bills, was not employed and was living on disability and child support….who’s paying for this spendy new attorney all of a sudden?  And, on a side note, the aforementioned attorney, Rex Butler, is African American, and an outspoken critic of the governor stating:

“Blacks don’t have the levels of access to the governor and state commissioners as with past administrations,” said attorney Rex Butler, an Alaska resident since 1983. “It seems the posture of (Palin’s) administration with Blacks is: Don’t need them—don’t worry about them.”

Circle your calendar, this could be an interesting trial…

As for the Sherry Johnson lawyer, maybe he is doing the job pro bono, either to make a name for himself or for a chance to drop a bombshell on SP, or both.

    ———————————————–

After reading this, it may just be that Butler is doing this pro-bono if he has an axe to grind with Governor Granny. I was skeptical at first, but now it makes perfect sense. There could be visitation issues coming into play here too. Regina, there have been rumours going around that Levi and Bristol have broken up, and Levi has knocked up another girl already. Any truth to it?

Rex probably took the case pro-bono for the publicity and to jack with SP. Good to see that Sherry is not an orphan anymore and had some support in court.I hope Rex zeroes in on the timeline and who knew what , and when they knew it. Second thought – The record is pretty clear on how Sarah/Todd like to meddle and stick their noses in places they don’t belong. The judge in the Wooten divorce admonished them pretty good. This is a criminal matter and I think this judge will not put up with any “tampering”. Also – Rex will certainly be lookin’ to slap down Sarah if she meddles. Dang – this might get fun !!

Mustang, over the years I’ve seen many convicted with this or less evidence. If the informants asked to buy from her, and she showed up with drugs, handed them over and asked for (or indicated) she wanted $, then there’s a case. Handing over Rx drugs for free would also be an issue- federal law prohibits transfer to someone other than the person for whom the rx was written.

    PaulaNo Gravatar says:

“Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin” by Lorenzo Benet will be in stores Tuesday, February 17.

She’s the former beauty queen turned politician who changed the face of her party during the 2008 Presidential election. A new biography of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin takes a look at her past, her secret pregnancy, as well as her eldest daughter’s pregnancy.

People magazine reports “Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin” says “Sarah made one slip-up, but [she] dampened suspicion by explaining it away.” One of her daughters found a prenatal ultrasound scan of Trig and confronted Palin with the picture.

Palin was also aware Trig had been diagnosed with Down syndrome, but did not tell her other children until he was born in April. The unauthorized biography states, “Not discussing the pregnancy with her daughters, she felt, would shorten the process and spare them from unwanted attention.”

The book also delves into the relationship between Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston. Bristol lived in Anchorage with her aunt and uncle while she was pregnant. She worked at two espresso shops and remained a full time student at West High School. Levi was 40 miles away in Wasilla, but he would still drive to the capital to take Bristol out. The couple welcomed their son Tripp on December 27, 2008.

    > would shorten the process and spare them from unwanted attention…What the hell does that mean? All their classmates would make fun of them for expected a DS baby? That doesn’t even make sense. I think she did everything she could to lose the baby. I think it’s hers, but come on, she gained what 3 pounds? Flew with water leaking down her legs. Etc.

    >Bristol lived in Anchorage with her aunt and uncle while she was pregnant…. Ah, who doesn’t love a good old fashioned Christian family shunning.

It has been widely stated by Sarah and all other accounts that Bristol went to live with her aunt and uncle in Anchorage in Jan/Feb 08 and was not seen in any school after Dec 07. So I am assuming that means when Bristol was pregnant with TRIG! If TRIPP was born full term on Dec 27/28th, then she would not have gotten preggers with him until the end of MARCH 08. That means at most she would have been 3 months along by the time school was out, not even noticeable if this was her first pregancy, why would she be sent to live with auntie?…Bristol was never seen in any high school after Dec/Jan 08. Bristol was photographed with her mother after Trig’s birth in Wasilla…check the palindeception.com site, and at events with her family in the summer of 08. Also, Bristol was on the campaign trail with the family, but never brought on stage after the RNC.

Dead giveaway…BRISTOL was pregnant with TRIG and TRIPP is her second child

SJK..I am still of the belief that Trig was born earlier than April 18…the reason for the wild ride back from Texas was that Trig had to go to the hospital for jaundice, and Sarah saw an opening to make a late night delivery. Tripp was probably born after Dec 27…most likely sometime last month.

The doctor’s letter released on the eve of the election said Trig “was born at 35 weeks in good health” and “had some jaundice (very common in newborns) that needed phototherapy”. NO mention of a congenital heart defect. The new book claims he had a congenital heart defect very common in ds children.

Methinks the Queen has been caught in more lies- either the Drs. letter, or the story to People, or maybe both.

The fact that 50% of ds children have congenital heart defects makes the “Wild Ride” even more crazy, irresponsible and implausible than it initially appeared, if that is possible.

Maybe the continued Greta and People publicity will cause someone in the mainstream media to wake up and examine this bizarre story. Not.

If Sarah was trying to miscarry, then she certainly did her darndest…little weight gain, travelling all the time, keeping it quiet, and the wild ride from Texas. Everything else just doesn’t add up. My guess is that the Heaths/Palins and friends were too stupid to go back and look at all the other articles and statements on the record before they want blabbing their heads off about this book. I’ve been watching Rex Butler longer (26 years) longer than I’ve been watching Sarah Palin (19 years).

At his best, Butler is one of the Pacific Northwest’s best criminal attorneys. He’s seldom unorthodox, though, and that may be needed in this matter. At times, he’s had the best private investigators working for him that Alaska has to offer. Other times, not such good investigators. His trials, some of which I’ve observed parts of, are quite uneven.

Regarding the question of whether or not Trig’s congenital heart problems were referred to in the CBJ letter I offer this comment by a blogger at Palin Deceptions.

“Once again the CBJ letter uses an ambiguous statement to imply one thing whilst meaning something entirely different. This from the medical letter -

“She followed the normal recommended schedule for prenatal care, including follow-up perinatology evaluations to ensure there was no significant congenital heart disease or other condition of the baby that would preclude delivery at her home community hospital.”

Most people reading this would naturally assume that Trig had no congenital heart disease and that is why he was born in SP’s local hospital. However, the key word here is “significant” and if you read it taking this into account you realise that CBJ is saying that tests did show that Trig had a heart condition but that it was thought to be insignificant.

Of course that insignificance can be called into question when an expectant mother goes into early labor as Sarah has claimed.”

I’ve been reading the ADN site daily lately and I’ve always been amused by the comments section of any article written about Palin. The comments always seemed to be about 50/50 pro/anti-Palin and for the most part Palin supporters have seemed for the most part rational in their support.

It seems like Team Sarah though has upped the stakes because this weekend they were out in full force and were very unhinged in their support for her royal highness as well as slamming anyone who dared not to love her. It was a really odd change in the tone of her supporters so someone has rallied the troops around the Momma Grizzly.

People who have such idolization for another have always scared me. Those that support Palin are just like those loyal Bushies who would do anything and everything all in the name of W. I don’t say this just about people who are followers of these two but anyone who seemingly give up their own thoughts and beliefs for anothers. What is missing in their life that they’re willing to give so fully of themselves to another?

Her Royal Highness will continue to loot and pillage as long as she can keep the legislature at bay with poll numbers that show them she’s got decent support. She just has to hope that she can get out before it all goes up in smoke, something that W wasn’t lucky enough to do. The clock is ticking Sarah, have you stolen enough? Of course there is always Fox, where the more disgraced a Republican you are the better it seems. Wingnut Welfare here come the Palins…

I agree Rebekah and thought Bristol came off as a sweet, pretty, soft-spoken shy young girl… but with the nerve/guts to say abstince is not realistic, didn’t have to scream it either . Now to play “devil’s advocate” on the other topics: Trig is Sarah’s baby; Tripp is Bristol’s baby; at 17, Bristol may well have moved out of her home due to a fight with her mother ( I doubt Todd is the difficult one to live with); Moving to Anchorage made sense, an aunt lived there, there was a school there and a satillite governor’s office; Wasilla is a drivable distance if she needed to return home, likley she “got pregnant” in Anchorage given that there was little or no parental “oversight” (may have been her original problem- good ol M-O-M).

Rex Butler is working the case pro bono and any judge worth his/her salt will control the trial and exlcude irrelevant evidence dealing with Gov and gov family. Rex is best off kicking the crap out of the young, pill addicted informants who were squeezed by the AK troopers to give up their source.
BUT, if you go jury nullification, the AK troopers efforts to embarras the governor may become “relevant” given her family’s association with Johnston.
Sherry could be portrayed as a victim of Troopergate – woman stuggling with severe pain and financial difficulties driven into the web woven by the AK troopers and no doubt moronic deal cutting druggie informants. Gotta go jury null. I can’t see Sherry getting acquitted on sales surveilled by police and tape recorded phone calls; however, Rex may end up having to seek jury’s sympathies for the Gov and her family in order to get them to toss the charges.

I am sure a bio written by People Mag writers is hardly citing accurate or reliable sources.
