It appears that the IRS only looked at the legitimacy of Palin’s per diem claims and ruled that she spends more than 50% of her time in Anchorage, so it has become, de facto, her duty station. In that case, per diems in Wasilla are not allowed for expense purposes, but would be considered income. So, she has effectively changed the state capitol to Anchorage after all. I would like to see the IRS examine her claims of spouse/children travel as well.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t the IRS doing the deciding, but the internal Alaskan gov. people. No evidence yet that the IRS is looking, but if (when) they do, they are likely to be much more thorough and rigorous in their application of the rules than the Palin Pets were.

She believes that most Alaskans appreciate this greater access to their chief executive and top other administration officials.

This is the same person who wouldn’t turn over the governor’s authority to the Lite Gov while campaigning nationally because she could always be reached via Blackberry?

More seriously, the last governor overhauled the state’s websites so badly that a directory of senior admins could not be found. This has NOT been rectified. As an example, would you look for official state information on disaster emergency response– The State Emergency Coordination Center– at http://www.ak-prepared.com or at a alaska.gov site?

P.S. the $60 per diem is the amount allowed for meals for Sarah. You can generally claim the actual amounts (with receipts) or claim the per diem without receipts. The notes on the expense reports refer to the business conducted that day which justifies being in that location. Thus, she’s not claiming a $60 phone call, just that the fact that she made the phone call justifies her being in Wasilla on business.

Sarh plain did not use the states money for 2 months this year(I would hope) due to the VP campaign.
If you average that in, her expenses are about the same for last year.
Also, she has her pac money now.

And bobby Jindal bombed last night. Looks like sp is going to be the next big republican star.

Both Jindall and SP are whining about the money but are going to take it anyway. Jindall is whining about 2% of the aid to his state. This is after Bush broke the major city in his state, gazillions in Federal aid, insurance money and charity money/people.

OK, so Jindall’s state might be doing well now after the piles of money he got from high tax donor states like CA, NY, etc.

So, you two ingrate Govs take the money and whining about the plan to give your respective states money. Either of you run and the people of CA, NY and the others will come after you with the organization we’ve learned in the last election, I promise…ifyou aren’t taken down by the IRS/FBI first, Sarah.
