CPAC Speaks.
Sarah Palin…the conservative sweetheart, the down home girl who grew up in a small town in Alaska, whose meteoric rise to mayor, governor, VP candidate, and Presidential contender in 2012 can only be described as a phenomenon. She has fired up the passions of conservatives, inspired tens of thousands to join her fan club site “Team Sarah” and has been able to assemble crowds of cheering supporters, the size of which John McCain only dreamed about. She’s been wined and dined by GOP fundraising operatives, invited to speak at events all over the nation, has an 11 million dollar book deal in the works. The world appears to be her political oyster, and she’s reaching for the cocktail sauce.
At the conservative Mecca, (also known as the CPAC conference) this weekend a straw poll was taken. Who do conservatives want to see run for the presidency in 2012? Well, who d’ya think? Get ready to start chanting! Sa-RAH! Sa-RAH! Sa-RAH! Sa-…… Mitt?
More than 1,700 people cast ballots in the 2009 CPAC poll, 57 percent of who were between the ages 18 and 25. Of the respondents, 95 percent said they disapproved of the job that President Obama was doing, only four percent approved. Meanwhile, 70 percent approved of the job Republicans in Congress were doing, 29 percent said they disapproved.
Here are the official results:
Mitt Romney – 20 percent
Bobby Jindal – 14 percent
Ron Paul -13 percent
Sarah Palin – 13 percent
Newt Gingrich -10 percent
Mike Huckabee – 7 percent
Mark Sanford – 4 percent
Rudy Guiliani – 3 percent
Tim Pawlenty – 2 percent
Charlie Crist – 1 percent
Undecided – 9 percent
That’s right, Mitt Romney is the conservative’s choice. And Sarah Palin is tied for fourth place with Ron Paul. Wow. That’s as good as… Undecided and Mark Sanford combined. Is there a Hallmark card for that?

70% approve of Repubs in congress and 95% disapprove of Obama?
No surprise but look at the public at large and Obama’s approval rating there. Once again the GOP is out of sync.
Whenever I hear any of them talk, it just astounds me. They are so stuck on their own vision and their own solution and can’t acknowledge that the rest of the country doesn’t agree with them. Amazing. I think they are going to continue to tie the hands of the republican party for some time to come – which is OK with me. But all I can do is shake my head that there are so many people, who mean well, that are so out of touch with reality.
And I bet Sarah is not happy to have to share the limelight with anyone else. I am amazed, though, that after that bizarre and weird speech the other night from Jindal that he’s the number 2 choice. That’s even more jaw-dropping than Sarah not being #1 any longer.
Pat
Bet Team Sarah’s cryin’ in their koolaid over that one!
Gawd it’s awesome to Sarah in 4th. Can’t wait to hand the Red Lantern award to her, either. Last, last, last…
oops, “to see Sarah in 4th”
They are finally just now getting it, shocking she even made it in as Gov, and VP nominee! But, I hope this will continue to decline
What? Rush isn’t on the poll? What a ripoff!
Hope you’re feeling better, AKM…
Funny but the Team Sarah site no longer has chat visible on their homepage.It would have been interesting to see how they would spin it.
If this was a horse race she didn’t even —- SHOW.—-
Now I want to know how you’r feeling AKM , just get back in those covers, have a hot drink and rest a bit more.
There is going to be allot of pressure on the REPUBS very soon. THe stimulus money is coming out, banks are failing, wall street is tanking, unemployment is soaring, and what the f*** is the repubs plan ?

Actually, their plan is to have NO plan. They just sit back and wait (and hope) for PO to fail. They will then ride to the rescue with…..wait for it……
TAX CUTS.
On a fiery white steed, in a cloud of dust with a hearty “Hi Ho Silver” they will come to save the day, the public will love them and their days in the wilderness will be over………or not.

And for you NonAlaskans – though a mayoral spot may not sound like much elsewhere – HALF the folks in Alaska live in Anchorage – and as we all know being a mayor here can launch your political career on the national stage – note Palin and BEGICH… such a strange place we live in.

OT: For those who like to keep up with Ann Strongheart, she posted some great pictures and a few notes on her day over on Anonymous Bloggers (see dlink up on the side bar). She has a busy day with the boxes coming in from Sam’s Purse and a sick baby, so said she was going off to bed. Sleep well, one and all. I’m headed to bed early tonight too.
I think changing the Samaritan’s Purse to Sam’s Purse is really a crack up – I like it. Maybe we should just call it Frank’s Purse after Franklin Graham. But Sam’s Purse works pretty well.
Of course we know it is because the Samaritan, the one considered unclean by Jewish standards, was the only one to help the stranger left in the ditch, beaten and robbed. And he paid for his care from his purse with the promise to cover any added expenses next time he came through on his travels. So that leaves us with two questions to consider, will Samaritan’s Purse be there when more expenses need to be covered? And it seems the ‘Samaritans’ in our modern story got their first, before the pious. The pious showed up in time to be in the lime light.
Ah, tis late – I wax poetic. Good night….

Must suck to be GINO.
Marginalized by a marginalized party……
SaRAH would be first first first if it weren’t for those damn media people always ambushin’ and askin’ impertnunt questyons and stuff dam them anway!
As the campaign fervor has worn off and GINO has had one dismal public relations disaster after another, the repubs appear to be cooling substantially on the idea of her fitness as the Supreme Standard Bearer and Whipper-Upper of the Energized Baseness for their Holy War.
Just since the election:
–Amazingly clueless interview while bloody turkey heads are rolling in the background.
–Nine contempt citations against her underlings who ignored legislative subpoenas.
–Resignation of her AG who was responsible for the subpoena debacle.
–Dairy scam in Mat-Su slowly but surely being exposed.
–Daughter’s future mother-in-law busted as narcotics dealer.
–Future son-in-law accused of taking a job for which he was not qualified….and the guv. had written him a letter of recommendation. Sweet.
–Daughter and future SIL’s high school “drop-out” status widely debated and tsk-ed tsk-ed.
–Rural village crisis which made national news….. while GINO had done NOTHING substantive to help for five weeks.
–Ordered to pay back taxes on per diem claims.
–Ordered to reimburse money to state for children’s travel expenses.
–Notified that she owed taxes on state vehicle…gas-hog Suburban, no less.
–National butt of jokes for her “Blamey Whinehouse” role in the Zeigler docu-crap.
–Defenders of Wildlife plastering her face nationally in their outrage over aerial wolf shooting.
–Consternation and dismay from the religious-right over her daughter’s “abstinence is unrealistic” interview with Greta Van Suckle-pig.
–Similar dismay in the right wing for GINO allowing her daughter to get on national TV to utter such evidence of sinnery.
–TeamSarah with 65,000 members but Facebook Against Palin with a million + and growing.
–CPAC’s straw poll puts the straw-governor of Alaska well back in the pack of those pups.
I’m sure I left out plenty…but even I can read the entrails of this turkey….2009 isn’t going to be a good year for GINO.
Accountability has come calling…..( BTW, where are those emails, Sa-RAH-ton ?? )

Good summary……it might be good if others would assist by sending you a few more……then send them off to Keith/Rachel/Chris/Huff/Kos, etc.
Yes?
@Lee323:
Yeah! totally agree w/mwThatOne. I *knew* everything on your list, but seeing it there all together was just so impressive. Needs to be shared, with input from others if avail.
I am sick of her. I am sick of those whiny ass Rep. that are saying how bad Obama is doing (after barely 1 month) but sing the same old song that has been going on for the last 8 yrs. but have no other ideas for making things better. I wish they would shut up especially Jindal and Sarah. Is total stupidity a requirement to be part of the GOP? His speech made about as much sense as her’s usually do.
Update:
The Alaska Ear reports the following:
http://www.adn.com/news/politics/alaska_ear/story/706282.html
It seems that people wanting to support the efforts of the World Wildlife Fund against Alaska’s hunting and predator control policies have been making donations and directing the fund to send the fuzzy stuffed animals one gets in return to Gov. Palin.
An earwig in a position to actually know something once in a while says Bristol called her mom last week to report three more stuffed wolves had shown up at the house.
Mom wondered (perhaps not sincerely?) what they might send the WWF fans as a thank-you for the stuffed wolves.
Bristol suggested packages of moose meat might be just the thing.
Bristol, honey, please send any extra moose meat you have to Nunam Iqua for me, ok dear? ;D
I think their plan is what Mr. Steele said – “hip hop”……….uh yeah……..”hip hop” down the bunny trail is more like it.
Republicans spent 8 years screwing things up, now 95 % of them disapprove of President Obama and expect him to turn things around in a day ?
Hello people – a little reality here please !
It’s going to take years to right this ship, and obviously Republicans have no clue whatsoever.
The best candidate on that list is Undecided.
4th in a crowd of super conserv die hard R is not good. Imagine if she were to be rated by independent voters? Right behing big bird and Clifford the big red dog? That’s my guess.
I heard TeamSarah was a CPAC sponcer. What a hoot, love to see them wasting their money on an event she didn’t even bother to attend. Anyone hear what she said during her teleconference thing? Probably her stump speech again, as we know damn well she couldn’t actually write a speech…
Feel better AKM.
I’m surprised they didn’t have the 13yr. old on the ballot………

Jindal sounded as if he were addressing a group of third graders…I think we now know exactly which roomful of third graders it was. Class CPAC.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to insult third graders!
3rd graders… I feel a Palin/Jindal moment is in order. They’re on the same page when it comes to 3rd graders, huh?

Good morning, mudpups-
Get better, AKM, ok? Here my recipe handed down from my mom, who was a terrible cook, but had great health ideas: add 1 T. lemon, 1T. honey and as much whiskey as you want to the tea and stir. Good for the throat- and sleep:-)
The Republican recipe for everything: tax cuts. Doesn’t matter what the problem is, tax cuts. Sheesh. I did notice how many were polled, and it’s not a huge percentage. Maybe they will act like lemmings, and follow Rush off the cliff-
“More than 1,700 people cast ballots in the 2009 CPAC poll, 57 percent of who were between the ages 18 and 25. ”
This was the number that jumped out at me. The young voter demographic–the one the Republicans are desperately trying to woo to wake up the party–obviously didn’t buy into the Sarah palin hype. Her strong-arm handling of Bristol’s pregnancy and shotgun marriage plans for Levi (when IS that wedding again?) probably cost her a lot of popularity points with the under-25 crowd.
I suspect Sarah’s “base” was composed mainly of really old guys (who wished they were McCain and could rub up against her in the campaign bus!), and frustrated middle-aged conservative husbands not gettin’ any on the home front. Oh, and the handful of not-too-swift moms around here who just loooooved Sarah “because she has KIDS, like ME!”
Karen~

This was my mother’s sovereign recipe for what ailed you, too. For a sore throat, it was warm milk with a melted pat of butter stirred in. Sounds nasty, but very soothing, especially for the little ones who are “kvetchy”/cranky/whiny. Hey, sounds like GINO could use some of that!
Be well AKM. Rest, sleep and know that you are cared for very much.

What?!!! No Miss Congeniality for GINO?
4th place is just the THRID LOSER.
Karen – There is a blow-up Sarah Palin doll for the 1st 2 parties in your demographic.
4th place is because Sarah Palin pals around with drug dealers. If she was actually doing drugs like Rush Limbaugh does, or doing Rush like the ho she is, then she might be in 1st place.
Don’t even go there. Just picture Palin lying under that big fat ass slob.

That’s one ginormous and on-the-point observation, Pat. Not only does the country not agree with them, but neither does reality. These self-described leaders need to remove their heads from each other’s nether regions and take a look at the world around them. As it is, their theories and desires are about as relevant as those put forth by Heaven’s Gate, etc.
95% disapprove of Obama, and 70% approve Repub Congress at CPAC, where Rush was the keynote speaker. That’s not news at all. That’s like polling the Vatican to count Catholics, or a Red Wings game to count hockey fans. Why would anyone bother to even take such a poll?
Romney as front runner. We all know how he came in. But at least he’s not a fanatic nutball.
Huckabee in 6th behind that dinosaur Newt Gingrich and “undecided”? He even has his own show on Fox and he can’t pull off better? Ha!
Palin and Ron Paul behind Piyush Jindal? And with his debut was worse than her Couric interviews combined? She may be unintelligent, self-serving, duplicitous, and incoherent, but he was caught in a flat-out lie spoken at his big opening speech, and had to admit it.
Charlie Crist sounds decent, but I’ve heard grumblings from Floridians that suggest that’s not the case. And Ron Paul has some good ideas, but some I think are dangerously delusional (well-meaning or not).
All my hopes and prayers go to President Obama. May all his efforts succeed in bringing this country back to greatness and stability, for our sake and for future hope worldwide. And to protect us from having one of these folk in the White House.
What…no McCain…I thought I heard him say he would run again!?! LOL
Very surprising that Jindal was 2nd after his lame speech.

The ’08 elections have ushered in the age of the grown-up: it’s time to put away childish things. While the Republicans are obsessing about themselves, the rest of the country has moved on. Democrats and Independents-seventy per cent of the country-are more concerned with competence and problem solving than failed ideology.
The Republicans think that Government is the problem. The rest of us think that having a Republican government is the real problem.
What pitiful pickin’s for the ‘publicans!
Pretty humorous in my opinion!….None of those up and comers in the Republican party are going anywhere. BJ (oh, man something else comes to mind while looking at those initials) is truly the best that they have and he is going nowhere fast.
The Republican Party needs to be dismantled and rebuilt – perhaps they need a platform that is more mainstream instead of EXtreme….

That was my first thought when reading the poles. They paid and/or promised them WHAT??? Who paid their travel expenses to get there, stay there???
In the end, the Straw Poll means nothing as it is early. All it does is make themselves sound important (in their pea brains) and their sad attempt at making people think they know what they are doing. They haven’t finished eating a few more of their own. Jindal was 2nd but at Disney instead of the conference. They didnt want him opening his mouth again.
Romey has a problem in the RNC — he’s a Mormon. In his business world — he was a job slasher. I still recall his speech at the RNC — he lied and made a arse of himself. It was the same with putting the HP fired ex-CEO of Hewlett Packard, whose business ethics were out one side of her mouth and her RNC speech was out the other. She too proved to be an idiot at her attempt of TV pundit. Stepped right in to the cow patties!!! The ex-CEO of Ebay had a crap speech too. And isn’t she trying to run as Gov of CA? Both women didn’t do anything to impress, especially women. Then it makes you wonder how they got the positions they did in their corporations.
But, if they want to put those people out in front, it only makes the Dems stronger as was shown — they work harder and rally harder.

They go into the hard scrabble hills nearby and roust the snakes out of their dens and take ‘em all to one place to show off. It’s quite a spectacle. On second thought – if she opened her mouth and talked , she would scare the rattlers…….

Sounds like a perfect event for her. Send off that invite!

You know that those old, bitter, grumpy, white republican MALES chase a skirt for a while, then move on.
GINO has had one dismal public relations disaster after another, the repubs appear to be cooling substantially on the idea of her fitness as the Supreme Standard Bearer and Whipper-Upper of the Energized Baseness for their Holy War.

On Wednesday, Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher said that if he were in Congress, he would “probably be in jail” because he’d be charged with “slapping some member.” He added, “And that’s not [bull] either.” ThinkProgress asked Joe at CPAC yesterday which members he would most like to slap. “Pretty much anybody that’s stood there and said anything bad about our troops, pretty much anybody who sat there and talked treasonous talk about America,” Joe said. He then implied that some members of Congress should be shot:
Good grief. This is what the Repubs have been showing off as their idea of a real American? When is this guy’s 15 minutes up, anyway?
@Nan (09:13:54) :
Oh, about four months ago, just like GINO’s. Apparently neither of them got the memo, however!
Enjay – He only sold 11 books at CPAC. Also when he first came to light , I’m almost positive he stated that he was raising his 11yr.old son on his own. So my question is – is he dragging the kid around with him , in which case the truancy officer needs prompt notification , or , is he an absentee father ?? Joe is a blow-hard dumb-ass.
**chuckles at her misfortune**
Get well soon AKM.
Lainey, thanks! But it is kind of true.
I have a child who is 18, she will never consider the republicans. I wondered about that, if they even have people in this age group. When Greta interviewed SP’s daughter and we were trying to figure if they were trying to go after that age group and both children, who will be voting age in 2012 said, NO WAY!
Now i want to see that old thread. The statistics baffle me yet!
Oh – and another thing – IF and when he goes down to file to run for any office – he better have a ck. for those back taxes in his hand. They want all tabs cleared before they take more paperwork.
The legislative session is nearly half over, if my calculations are correct. Has a budget been submitted yet?
@austintx (09:21:55) :
I read here somewhere that he actually only sold 5 books!
Enjay: Don’t even worry about that joker. Joe spouts off like any generic uber right-wing ignoramus. He sounds like a mean, bullying drunk in a bar. Perhaps the best proof that our system still bears some functionality is that he’s not IN Congress. But that’s not saying much, now that I remember Michele Bachmann’s fascist rant about weeding out “un-American” elements…
Then again, Joe is acknowledging he’d be in jail for slapping people or threatening murder. That’s a start. I pity his neighbors for having to see Joe every day they go outside.
You do echo my fears, though. The first preface to all that is impoverishing the masses, consolidating power & money into the hands of the few and denying citizens access to health and education. Thank goodness we now have a president who’s fighting hard to reverse these trends!
But don’t spin your wheels over Joe. He’s nobody to waste energy over. He’s just one voice in a chorus of clowns. Ignore him like any rational person would.
Oh yeah, and where’s a good truency officer when you need one?

GOP – the party of HATE! That’s all they have to offer and the American people have refused to buy it. Let’s see – the GOP can offer boundless criticism but no constructive solutions. The country wouldn’t be in this mess were it not for the unbridled greed of unregulated financial instutions under the Bush administration.
History will show that the true axis of evil during the last eight years was Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld. This trio destroyed the moral fiber of over two hundred years, side-stepped the laws set down by our founding fathers, and were instrumental is laying down the foundation for financial ruin for this proud country. Everything that this corrupt administration touched was tainted by greed, incompetence, and a total lack of responsibility. May we never see an administration as bad as this one ever, ever again!!!
I see two things happening. If Obama is doing well (to me he can do no wrong, but I mean if the economy is headed UP) the no real candidate will want to waste their time or money. It will be hard to raise money to run against a popular Obama, SO, in that scenario, they let Palin run because the fundies will give her their last dime.
I things are going badly and they think they could win, then they will NOT let Palin be the choice. It will be a more middle of the road person like Gov. Hunstman of Utah, who seems reasonable compared to the other freaks.
Morning all,

That’s what I’m saying! Can’t believe Bachmann was re-elected after that. Hopefully it’ll drag like a chain for the rest of her term and doom her chances in the future.
But on the bright side, that sort of right-wing extremist view doesn’t always win. Remember Elizabeth Dole’s smear attack on Kay Hagan (you know, the “Godless” ad against Kay Hagan)?
If Rush and all of the GOP lemmings dont think gov’t is the answer, or gov’t is too bug and is SOOOO BAD, this is my answer to them. Get the HELL out of MY gov’t. if you are not part of the solution you are THE PROBLEM!

@ The Right Reverend – yes, but Chambliss won, after his egregious attack on his opponent “soft on nat’l security” – opponent had lost 2 legs and 1 arm in Nam.
@ InJuneau re truancy – I didn’t even catch the typo, just read it fine.
re the 15 min ago… That’s what gets me. The fifteen minutes for all this kind of idiocy is long past. Mostly, they never should have been given 5 minutes. When I was younger, most of the extreme stuff would have been dismissed out of hand, even laughed at. (my mom used to call them misguided and felt pity for those who seemed so unable to think).
Now, it’s as if they feel they’ve inherited the earth. And sun, moon and stars to boot. Who was it that mentioned (a couple of threads ago) that crackpot in Austria that no one paid any attention to – back in 1930, I think. That one comment really stuck with me and made me realize the phrase “eternal vigilance” has merit.
So this is not the time to “ignore the crackpots.” There is far too much at stake. We currently have the opportunity to realign our country with its original intent, or at least begin the process, and the extremist faction *of any stripe* would be disastrous.
“Somebody should…”
The Right Reverend – Dole also had a M.I.A problem.It was documented that she only came back to the state a few times during her term. She couldn’t even PRETEND she cared.

Let me see….you got number 1 and 2 right, and if they had only given GWB or McCain a little more time they would have goaded either N. Korea or Iran enough to accomplish #3.
Now if you had only predicted the record deficit and global economic meltdown they accomplished on their watch….
95% of those glassy eyed Repulitalibans disapprove of Obama’s performance because they are holding their breath and stomping their feet and are sulking because their party didn’t win. It has nothing to do with the fact that Obama has been working tirelessly for only a month trying to dig this country out of the biggest mess any prior administration has ever gotten us into. This is not a time for hate speech, and sulking. This is a national emergency our country faces, and we need all hands on deck to get ourselves out of it. Those representatives who voted against the bailout should be held accountable. It’s embarrassing as an American to see such posturing in a time of national crisis. If their only solution is more tax cuts for the rich, which they had and tried for the eight years leading up to this, then it’s time for them to find new work.
In other words…if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.

Bush b/c focused on Iraq b/c of Bush Sr. the first Iraq war in 1991! My Son was in High school and also the Army reserves but since he was still in HS he was not shipped out, like the rest of the guys were.
Plans were drawn up for war in Iraq long before 9/11….that was just a “handy” excuse to convince the American people people. He had wanted to Get Saddam since his father didn’t.
I hope he prosecuted for war crimes! And also did you see PO lifted the ban on showing troops coming back in coffins? People can’t keep their heads in the sand and pretend the killing isn’t going on. However, they’d need to be checking the elementary school, not the middle school (that’s where Willow should be…).
Nan–thanks for not noticing!
I am not sure how much stock to put into that poll, though, as far as being a forecast for the GOP primaries. McCain didn’t do well in this poll before the 2008 primaries, yet he was nominated. It will be interesting to see, though, if more and more leave the GOP and become Indie’s or Dem’s. Some questions I have are: will the GOP be so marginalized that wingnut conservatives make up the majority of their ranks?; will Pres. Obama attract more (former) GOP voters to his tent?; how will the state of the economy at the time determine who the GOP nominates? I’ll file these questions away in my mind to be answered at a later date; we have much more pressing issues at hand.
To JWA (1st post).
Those approval/disapproval percentages did jump out. No question, we are dealing with an alternative reality with current conservatives.

Here is a link to a TV station article re soldiers being brought home from Afghan on what has been renamed “Highway of Heroes”. It’s a stretch of Canada’s main highway between the base and Toronto. I have on many occasions been on the overpass about 2 miles south of me if I know when they arrive together with thousands of citizens, police, ambulance, fire who many of the fireman stand atop their trucks, all having lights flashing. This happens anytime of day and weather. Middle of the night or in snowstorms. My flags are always in my car. It has never been hidden from us. They show pictures on TV, in newspapers and on websites. It’s a reality of way and the citizens way of showing respect to those who have died and respect and support to their families as many are taken to the base and are in the procession. Most times the pictures of the family is not shown, which that I respect. That is their privacy and same has been respected by the media et al.

Yes I wish there were a way to hold them accountable! I had written to my local rep/senate re: repubs who didn’t want the stimulus, should be censured/impeached all of the above.
They are like GINORMOUS babies screaming WAHHHHHH!
Have you heard about their “Tea party” yes they are staging them all this week I believe. Every other country looks towards PO with hope except these a-holes…American Taliban. Sickening. Michelle bachmann, GINO, JTP, Rush…All of them POS!!!!
They seriously need to be flushed down the toilet
From some of the blogs I’ve read over the last month (and YES it’s very hard to read these), many of the conservatives are crying out to abandon the R party and build the Libertarian party into a viable 3rd party (yes, many still want Palin at the helm because they are all DELUDED as to how “damaged-goods” she is, and will even be more so by election time).
Then the others chime in, “No, we must change the R party from within – to split our ranks would allow the left to divide and conquer”. I don’t see any signs of reasonableness, or the recognition that compromise and dialog would go a long way to opening discussion on how to balance the parties once more in order to get some real work done. Until they can find a voice to talk to the rest of us, they will stagnate and ferment even further.
As far as the fundie whackjobs that want to bring on the dark ages to the planet, little do they realize that many would just rather have them all RAPTURED away and be done with them altogether. That is the group that will NEVER find a middle ground voice, so they are doomed completely to running around in the comment section of Alaska newspapers, foaming at the mouth while typing Sarah 2010 as fast as they can. It is quite clear that they change no one’s minds and their pathetic efforts create the opposite effect of what they are trying to achieve. I’ve said it many times before – not a lot of bright bulbs in that bunch!
But somewhere in there, there truly are some Rs that we need to work with. We cannot remain this divided and get real work done. I am hoping this happens before all of us have such a horrid taste in our mouths put there by the ilk of Limbaugh, Bachmann, Jindal and Palin. If these people really cared about their party, which they don’t, they would move aside for more moderate folks to “forge the river” in their place. They are damaging their party beyond any hope of immediate repair and of course affixing blame as fast as they can to everyone but themselves.
If the moderates just flipped this bunch into exile, some accomplishments could be made. In the meantime, I think they are all just going to eat each other alive, leaving nothing behind but a huge stack of bones.

Nan-which article?
2 03 2009
the problem child (an aunt, also) -I liked this at the end of the article….
“Those of you who actually have to make ends meet in this ruined economy may find this unconvincing — even sinister. But conservatives — including the rightbloggers who applauded Limbaugh’s speech — don’t care what you think. They’ve been morose since the election, and want to feel good about themselves again. And if it takes economic collapse to do it, that’s fine with them. You may eat cake; to help wash it down, they will provide the tea.”
Oh and the Whine….
I suggest we think about the difference between the record-setting rallies held in Alaska this summer in support of Obama and Walt Monegan, and then compare that with what the conservative movement has been able to achieve with its “call to action” in areas of the country with literally millions more people than the whole of Alaska.
Alaskan’s For Truth rally was inspired by a local, isolated issue (though of great interest to the outside world, it turned out).
This is the freakin’ bloody stimulus package that may or may not be able to do something to help the country’s economy and just maybe restore some confidence in the WORLD economy. Kind of a big thing; you’d think the conservative movement’s supporters would be out in full force.
My conclusion? Most ordinary, every day conservatives actually support the stimulus package, or are at least unable to come up with a strong reason to attack it.
What do you think?
crystalwolf aka caligrl,
Where did you take it from the Tea Parties, to tax payments for rich to racism. I think you’ve taken wrong turn on the road. It’s Dem v GOP. They lost, They’re pissed and spew rhetoric with no concrete ideas. It’s typical two party phetoric. That’s racism – not.

I listened to Limbaugh on my ride home early form work. (Furnace repair man came and fixed my problem! I froze my a** off last night!) He played excerpts from his 90 minute speech Sunday at CPAC which I did not see. This has all gone up another two levels. The man is vicious. Really. He blames Obama for everything going on with the economy! Says the 2800 point drop in the stock market since he took office is ALL HIS FAULT! Just viciously psychotic!
No public understanding whatsoever about the $300 Billion AIG thermonuclear Credit Default Swaps multiplier exposure!
All he screams is “FREE MARKET” over and over with a sneer! That the “socialist” Democratic Party will “kill all economic growth”! Blah blah blah! Ann Rand as an air brushed Playboy Foldout in his warped fat Oxycontin and Vi***a addled psyche! “Who is John Galt” tee hee baloney!
All this ranting verbiage when it was THEIR incompetent “compassionate conservative” ideological sociopath GWB and the dimwit Neocon ideology that went insane on deregulation and got us here. They carried out the completely reckless Enronization of the financial markets of the united States.
.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx3KMX6T8bo
They blame the “Dem” CRC programs. It was NOT that! It was essentially repealing the 1933 Glass-Stegall Act that took us to utter ruin.
.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-Steagall_Act
In a normal world they could just let these companies all fail, go Chapter 11, or Chapter 7 and recover slowly over time. But NOT with the Credit Default Swaps multiplier effect! That is the time bomb on everyone’s back as we have been discussing in the Mudflats forum on the economic threads for months. We are essentially all now in the movie “Speed” riding with Sandra Bullock. If she stops the bus, it explodes. If they allow AIG’s $300 billion (gasp) in COMPLETELT RAW UN-HEDGED Credit Default Swaps to kick in as a catastrophic default the world economy goes up in a huge chain reaction falling dominoes mushroom cloud!

This below article was written in Feb 2008 over a YEAR BEFORE the crisis exploded!!! Yet BushCo did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHATSOEVER to deal with the gathering storm because of politics in a Presidential Election year! He did not want the general public to know this was building because it would hurt the GOP! It certainly did in September 2008 when people FINALLY realized the incredible nature of the crisis! Where was Limbaugh on this too during that entire year?

Sarah Palm In an interview, 7/24/2006 ::: GINO Said “They’re not gonna get me for beating my kids or cheating on my husband or bankruptcies or prison terms or anything.
Seems as if she might wantto rethink that real soon!
I guess the Republicans don’t have and clue about how to win an election anymore if these people are their choices. The only thing that they do is, frankly, NOTHING. That is their answer — Why should government help people? They should just stay OUT of everyone’s business unless, that is, YOU ARE RICH! Then you can every amount of government support you can muster up. Wasn’t this one of the reasons why we have the United States of America? To get away from the elitist people who think that they are special because they have some title, money, or position? Of course, Sarah Palin is the new poster girl for that bunch.
Canadian Neighbour(12:25:23) :
crystalwolf aka caligrl,
Where did you take it from the Tea Parties, to tax payments for rich to racism. I think you’ve taken wrong turn on the road. It’s Dem v GOP. They lost, They’re pissed and spew rhetoric with no concrete ideas. It’s typical two party phetoric. That’s racism – not.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Canadian-its the only way I can explain their completely off the wall reaction to PO! JMO, it because PO is a (part African American) POTUS who is a Dem! Other countries have risen above this but there is still unbridled racism in the South/Bible belt.
To me it is the only logical reason they are whining and kicking up their heels so much, call me stupid, but????They just can’t get over it! I live near San Francisco, and it probably as liberal as you can get….but these people if they came here they would just freak out! Keep in mind this is JMPO.
Otherwise I can’t understand how they can be so oposed to PO? They can’t be all rich? Bush has left our economy in the crapper? What else could it be?
“http://www.avaaz.org/en/end_the_war_on_terror/
This week the US government is debating whether to set up a Commission of Inquiry to look into Bush’s ‘War on Terror’ tactics. This could have major ramifications all the way up the chain of command.”
Some signatures please, for what it is worth. We can´t continue with business as usual after those eight years. We must remember and those that still have not understood must feel if they do not see.
crystalwolf aka caligrl,
You can take PO out of the equation and put Clinton in there — it really doesn’t matter. It’s the fact that they lost — they lost big and instead of stopping and looking at themselves to see why they failed, like we have all done when it personally affects us in an argument or when we’ve made a mistake and believe we are right — we strike out and become defensive and blame everyone else but outselves. PO is their easy target. This is not new between Dems & GOP of many elections past. They now blame Bush for setting them up but they themselves voted for what Bush wanted so therefore — take Bush out of the equation. They have not taken a breath to look in the mirror and have no one of strength yet to head the party. Each one of them is fluffing their feathers up like in a cock fight believing they are the only one that is the strong in the party. They look like idiots. Need to look in the mirror, step back and come back with ideas. All this posturing doesn’t equate to votes.
The same thing happens in my politics — blame them. It’s not us.
Yes, I am very well aware there is racism, more so in the south but has nothing to do with it in this case. In the cartoons, etc. — different story.
FW – Saw that the other day. Interesting how they compiled that info. I would love for Rush and Janeane Garofalo to debate. Chubby – are you kiddin’ ?? I didn’t know a walrus came so far inland……..
OT (hey, I remembered…)
from ADN – AK Sen. Kim Elton is leaving the Senate to accept a post as Alaska Advisor within the Department of Interior. He is moving to Washington [cool]. Last day in Senate is today.
Juneau puppies, what are your thoughts? What kind of impact will he make, and will he be able to wage a righteous fight with GINO and her minions?
yukonbushgrma-Wonder who taking his place? Hopefully a Dem?
I’m pretty sure he stole both of them.
8 years is still 8 years
and in both he had nearly half the voting public voting for him & Chaney.
and think back how many people voted for McCain & Palin.
who are these people?
we have to find a way to connect with them.
to reach out to them.
there’s no chance with the fundamentalists, but we should help the moderates get out of bed with those extremists.
It’s got to be embarrassing if Rush and Palin are the brains and voice of your party.
Where’s William F. Buckley when you need him?
where Barbara Walters likens Rush to a “male Ann Coulter.” I can’t believe there was no fuss made about that! What a hoot.
eastcoast-I know quite a few people who vote for PO b/c of GINO! When she did that interview and laughed and said, “If I cost JM any votes…I’m sorry” she cost him allot! The people who are for GINO, like TS for example they are like cults….She is cult like, why I don’t know?
Has to be a D, as that’s what party holds the seat now. She “should” pick from a list the local party officials giver her but doesn’t have to… However, the Senate Ds have to approve the pick and could refuse to do so if she picked someone they didn’t want. It should be Rep. Beth Kerttula, but who knows. If it is, then GINO will have to appoint someone (also a D) to replace her in the House (same rules apply I think).
From KINY:
Elton resigns Senate seat in favor of job with Obama Administration
Juneau Senator Kim Elton walked off of the Senate floor for the last time at 11:43 this morning.
He announced his resignation during special orders this morning that he had accepted a position with the U. S. Department of Interior in the Obama Administration.
He will be the secretary’s special assistant for Alaska issues.
Elton will move to Washington, D. C.
His resignation is effective at 5 p.m. today. (Monday)
A successor will be named by Republican Governor Sarah Palin who is obligated to replace Elton with a Democrat.
The Democratic Party will send her the name of the person or persons who they think she should pick. Palin will have 30 days to make the appointment.
The appointment must be approved by Senate Democrats in a confirmation vote.
—-
Update – Juneau Downtown Representative Beth Kerttula says she has asked to be considered for the Senate seat.
She says it wasn’t an easy decision and was made with some trepidation. But, she adds, that Juneau is going to have one new representative in the legislative delegation no matter where it’s at.
eastcoast – love your list !! I have to say my fave was the crash of Swaggart. You had treachery ( someone ratted him out ) , crack-whore , cheap ass motel , then the pathetic , maudlin , sobbing live on t.v. ” I have sinned “………I had forgotten how funny that was !!! thanks a million for the remind !!!
InJuneau: Sen. Elton…from what I recall from troopergate doesn’t like GINO much, is that right? So Sec. of the interior, wouldn’t that be involving ANWR, and Native Villages and such?
If so, could get interesting? And Beth is not a big Fan either? Could the political tables be turning on GINO???
And what’s with Karen Loeffler? That is a good thing for Ethics in Alaska, she is a BIG Dem.
Couple good ones from Huff Post related to everything we’ve been saying….
You may want to see also how the repub stimulus opponents have lined their pockets. I think they must view Hypocrisy as one-up-mans-ship and not something unethical.
This is the first time I have been really politically active
That’s the same for you and millions of others and therefore now notice the rhetoric so are just now learning the games. It happens in every country which I find sad in that people have a right to vote and don’t exercise it. That is why to ask questions or research but not just label it racism. Don’t get distracted by Rush. He’s a mouth piece. You have to look in the shadows as that is where the danger always lurks. Think of Rove with Bush and remember, he’s still walking free. Don’t underestimate him. But then, he seems to keep playing the antigued, yellow-paged GOP handbook!!
Eastcoast,
I believe Bush got as many votes as he did because of the fear mongering. It was still relatively close to 9/11 and they hammered hard at that. I think it became where people feared what could happen in a transition of power and in the end thought it better to leave him in. After the lies finally surfaced, that is when the surge really started for the Dems which gave them the win in 2006.
There were so many more independents/Dems registered in 2008 because of the Dem primaries. I think it was a great thing it went on for the length of time it did. McCain was somewhat moderate which was troubling. Once of course he picked Palin, McCain too shifted like a puppet for Palin. Then the Dem drive really kicked in because she was polarizing and because it was seen to pick a woman believing to steel Clinton votes. Even if the economy was okay, I didn’t believe McCain would have won because of Palin but that we will never know.
GOP has allowed Base too much lip service and power. For GOP to win — they can’t please both base and moderates/independents. Difficult road to rebuild.
Just heard on CNN PO would sign that ear marked filled omnibus budget according to question answered in the daily press hearing by Gates. He also said PO will be addressing the issue on a go-forward basis of earmarks on future bills on how they are handled.
This is a bill which is actually crap from last year of pet projects and crap from lobbyists. Are you kidding me?? Last year’s, this year’s — who gives a rat’s arse. Watch his pole approval numbers drop — quickly. He said it in campagin speeches about earmarks and is doing a complete about face. Seems he has not acquainted himself with the veto pen.
Bardette – You are go-o-od Baby !!
An interesting contrast to GINO and Blago:
http://www.adn.com/nation/story/708122.html
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – An Associated Press review of Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn’s travel records shows Quinn regularly paid his own expenses instead of charging taxpayers over his six years as lieutenant governor.
I have one question. What is Kim Elton’s position on shooting wolves from helicopters?
@crystalwolf aka caligrl (14:51:37) :
Yeah, pretty much right on all accounts, though he’ll be the secretary’s special assistant for Alaska issues, not the actual Sec. of Interior.
Canadian Neighbour – Just read on Huffpo about Steele and Rush throwing bombs at each other. I predict Rush is gonna slip up and say something racist or really misogynistic. He is about to pop. Like a big , pus filled boil.
Well, Steele has just apologized for insulting Rush.
Does anyone here know how I can reach Sarah Palin? I keep calling her but I don’t think she believes it’s me. I think it’s because I have a problem. See I always slobber all over myself when I talk and I think it’ hard to hear what I’m saying. Blah-Blah-Blah Oops, I just drooled all over my housekeeper. I think I drowned her. Oh well. What the heck. I hate women anyway. Don’t tell that foxy little whore what I just said. Sarah is a real babe and I’d like to get her in bed. Blah-Blah-Blah, but I think I might crush her. Blah-Blah-Blah What’s a fat ass white slob like me to do? So, Sarah, if you are ready this post Blah-Blah-Blah what do you thin babe?
@SoCalWolfGal (15:05:28) :
Prob. not so much in favor of that!
Way Up North in Alaska, Mudflats is Stuck in the Mud on Palin: CPAC Straw Poll (again)
The rhetoric just gets more asinine by the hour.
Way up North in Alaska, mudflats seems to be stuck on stupid when it comes to attacking Palin.
That’s right, Mitt Romney is the conservative’s choice. And Sarah Palin is tied for fourth place with Ron Paul. Wow. That’s as good as… Undecided and Mark Sanford combined. Is there a Hallmark card for that?
First it was the farm-hand Sam Stein’s comments at the Gaborington Post. And now up here in Alaska, it’s Mudflats.
A tsunami of facts can’t cover the asinine comments coming from the blog which is stuck in the glacial mud.
I can’t believe I heard “my own town” news here on MF (yes, I can really)!
NOOOOOOOOO, I don’t want to lose our great state Senator Kim Elton! I expected we would, but didn’t want to. More power to him in joining the president’s staff – wow – special Alaska adviser dude to the Sec. of the Interior, as RM would probably say. It doesn’t matter your political belief, Senator Elton is just a very personable, intelligent, well spoken and reflective politician and person.
I would like him no matter what party he belonged to! I met him first when I was a waitress. Often certain occupations invite a sort of anonymity and blending into the background as perceived by the people who you serve. In other words, you see them as they are. Senator Elton is very genuinely a respectful and good person.
Beth K – this will be interesting! Almost all, if not everyone, would be behind Beth Kertulla as the Dem, EXCEPT possibly for SP. Rep. Kertulla has been respectfully but forcefully critical of many aspects of SPs politics and policies. I would describe her very much in the same way as Senator Elton – smart, personable, fair, respectful, well spoken, etc. If you don’t like her, even if you don’t agree with her politics either, then there is something wrong with you.
Take that back! SP would be nuts not to go with Beth K if that’s the way it looks. She won’t find a more worthy, but fair minded party opponent. Wait.. I forgot… SP smart? Dunno. We’ll wait and see. Not her strong point.
Hey Martha! I heard the news at lunch time on KTOO. It’s all over all the news outlets now. Will be interesting to see what GINO does. The Senate Ds do have to approve of her choice though, so she may be somewhat constrained in what she can try to do to retaliate for any perceived slights…
@ YayAlaska – re cons. for palin
“A tsunami of facts can’t cover the asinine comments coming from the blog which is stuck in the glacial mud… A CNN poll of all things that puts Palin as the frontrunner”.
Do we have to keep pointing out the illogical conclusions of these dourkes? I feel like I’m a teacher sometimes… this blog didn’t mention the CNN poll, only the straw poll. The CNN poll will be another blog another day and had nothing to do with this post by the blogger. Where do they think up this crap? They don’t make any sense. I’m beginning to see why the phrase “elite left” is scary to their kind. They can’t think, period. It’s all sound bites and nonsensical observations in their reality!
UK Lady – thanks for the link…….funny!! Do you get KO ?? ‘cuz that is gonna be some FUN tonite !! Well , Rahm called it yesterday on CBS. Said Rush was the leader of the RNC. Rush “bisquit butt” Limpd**k better not piss off Rahm , it wouldn’t be pretty.
It’s mine, it’s mine…yet because of the Bush Administration and the Republicans the average person who had any savings not stashed under their mattress more than likely lost half of their money…and it keeps dropping. Instead of going to work and pulling this country back up, the Republicans are continually running this country down…with the world watching. I will never understand their thinking and I believe Rush should be taken off the airwaves for saying he wants the Obama Administration to fail. And I have to say that every time I heard that man open his mouth, I turn down the tv or off…Rush, Coulter and Palin…..they spit venom.
How did the room full of Native CEOs respond to the above DVD presentation? You could have heard a pin drop. No one applauded, no one said, . . .anything.
Mind you, she just finished bragging that her word of encouragement single handedly changed the life of a young man named John, which would make him finish school and become a Village Public Safety Officer.
Well, Hallelujah, Sarah has shown us the way! It never occurred to us professional Native leaders, leaders with advanced degrees and in some cases operating multi-million dollar companies, that we could have been encouraging our youth to finish school and get roughneck jobs all along.
Oh? And we ARE in a cash economy these days? Damn, I just sold my land allotment for some beads and blankets!
Never mind encouraging our youth to go to college and nurture professions that would benefit a village in cultivating a progressive economy. Her visionary prowess is limited to exporting the workforce and turning the villages into quaint little weekend retreats.
The old standby for Sarah’s rural and native ties comes in so handy – Todd is such an example, leaving Dillingham for good, only to return to annually plunder a resource to subsidize their lifestyle in Wasilla.
If she calls Dillingham a village one more time. . .anyone knows that for the Bristol Bay region, Dillingham is the regional hub, therefore considered a city.
Apologies for my disjointed thought stream. I am usually more composed and fluid – I have been sick and exhausted, haven’t been able to post and snark as much as I have wanted. And there is so much worth ranting over, but she’s not worth it. God help us, she won’t be an issue in two years. Not if all the mudpuppies can help it!
I hear ya, anon blogger. I also agree with you in regards to limbaugh, coulter, and you all know how I feel about palin! the world would be a much better place, even for the repugs…when they will realize this, I don’t know. we put criminals in jail to protect the general population, but politicians…….noooooo!
wow, I just read halcro blog, article titled “good riddance”. Hadn’t read ADN yet, so I missed GINO’s press release on kim’s promotion to DC. Boy, is she one nasty beeeyotch. She has no class whatsoever.
I, again, tried to watch this palin video……I CAN’T! It’s all lies and why would I subject myself to her delivery of them. I guess, in these regards, I’ll have to stay uniformed…get my info elsewhere. She keeps bringing up small business’ as the ‘heart and soul’, but aren’t the first dud and palin totally immersed in one of the largest oil production companies in Alaska? I’m just askin’.
It was taped in her office w/noone there. Do you think she would chance being in a room full of native leaders saying those things? Not a chance, you betch ya.
After watching that horrid youtube video, you all need to cleanse your mental palates with this refreshing article about PO!
Ignorant ethnocentrism slapping you in the face can lead to pin-dropping moments….
GINO doesn’t realize that her bugle call was directed toward the wrong troops.
The gauntlet was dropped….. but she’s going to be the one running it.
BTW…Village, hope you get to feeling better soon, although you make a fairly formidable warrior even in your illness.
This is just getting flat embarrassing:
Trying to cheer AKM up! Hope your doing better AkM!
Well…I was able to make it 1:51 minutes watching that video…than I noticed 5 comments:
Sarah is such an incredible woman. Thank you for sharing this video. I love the way she says Alaaska =)
Such a magnificent woman!
Great video. Thanks!
Go Sarah
GREAT VIDEO! THANKS FOR SHARING
GINO reminds me of Charlie Brown’s friend…the one that has dirt flying all around him. Except her dirt is followed by ‘gates.
@anon blogger…….that Charlie Brown friend would be ‘PIGPEN’….good analogy!
Sounds like Elton will work well with Colorado’s own Ken Salazar, the Secretary of the Interior: intelligent, well-spoken, fair, articulate. Sorry he won’t be representing you in AK, but our country needs more like him to clean up the mess left by the Bushies.
Check out theimmoralminority site…good post!
GINO is in her comfort zone in front of a camera. She really likes reading a speech on a TelePrompTer, that a team of high paid staffers prepared for her. No questions, no stress, and plenty of time for makeup and to rehearse her spin.
THe quean and her drones.
GINO’s idea of a small business is a pipeline laying company, a road building contractor that gets her no bid contracts (road to Nome), an aerial wolf hunting enterprise with a few planes, an open pit coal mining operation, and law firms that cover her gates/taxes.
How about building off grid medical and dental clinics, commercial green houses, community cold storage operations, arts and crafts studios, cradle to grave co-ed activity centers, and internet blogger/media/and language preservation centers. Its time to be creative GINO, help are precious Native Alaskans, that there desire to keep the village and culture intact. The key is not slope jobs, but recording and preserving the wisdom from the wise Alaskan elders!!
We are in the information ages GINO. WE all know you like your blackberry. Your technology keeps you one step ahead of us bloggers,
one step closer to pebble mine, drilling in ANWR, covering up your gates, and informed with all your up and coming PR engagements and book deals.
Some of us see a deeper regard for Alaska, a respect out side of the dollars to be made, a northern lifestyle rich with wisdom and beauty. We can see your 7 mountains, we can see your shallow faith, we can see your family values, we can see……… we can see……
I can’t get the youtube videos (dialup too slow), but your dynamite summary/reaction probably makes that unnecessary. Thank you for that.
It was painful to read your words, because I share your anger and disbelief that some of our state leaders (one in particular) just can’t put themselves into the shoes of the people – and have absolutely no awareness of what it’s like in Alaska villages today. Maybe if she’d met with her rural advisor … even just once ….
Rural and Village people – be tough! Methinks there’s a lot coming down the pike pretty soon …
Yes, I agree with you whole heartedly Team Alaska. GINO is so obsessed w/a pipeline and becoming a president she see’s nothing else, just tunnel vision. She doesn’t even see that God is slamming doors in her face so fast, it must be a panic just to keep up with them. When she fall’s, everyone better watch out, because sooner or later it will happen and it will be all to her own doing and her cult like faith.
Agreed — he wasn’t my senator, but sounds like he’s a good fit. And remember – he knows where SP’s bodies are buried. Never hurts to have an Alaskan there in DC to let folks know the real skinny.
Ah yes, that’s why I came here, and why I love it so.
How can she not see that?
new post
I saw /read about the one center they are trying to build in a area that maybe flooding and that sounded like such a great idea and the people were actually listened too for what their needs were.
Without focusing on any posts in particular, it seems that since AKM has been ill the past couple of days, a few comments are pushing the envelope with some borderline imagery that at least for me, goes beyond the more civilized discourse that we can usually count on here at Mudflats. I sincerely hope we can maintain our dignity as a blogging community and self regulate a bit, without AKM’s personal reminder to do so.
Romney as front runner. We all know how he came in. But at least he’s not a fanatic nutball.
This was the guy who strapped the family dog to the roof of his car on a vacation. I’m a cat person, and I’d never vote for someone who abused the family or other animal like that. In other words, I think HE IS A NUTBALL!
Kmart Palin Blue Lite Special (12:45:11) :
Sarah Palm In an interview, 7/24/2006 ::: GINO Said “They’re not gonna get me for beating my kids or cheating on my husband or bankruptcies or prison terms or anything.
Seems as if she might wantto rethink that real soon!
—-
Didn’t the National Enquirer say that no one ever came after them for her afair with the guy whose daughter she gave a job to in her administration?
Also, she may not have beat her kids, but she screwed them from an education standpoint, at least Piper has admitted it on the GVS interview.
