Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

The Palin 2012 Draft. Let the Games Begin.

It has happened.  The first official group to register to raise money to draft Sarah Palin for President in 2012 has reared its head.  “Where is this group located?” you might be asking yourself.  Wasilla?  The neighboring town of Palmer?  Somewhere in Utah? Oklahoma? Arkansas?

“Nope.  Keep guessing,”  I tell you.

“Alabama?  North Carolina?  Texas?”

(shakes head)

You’re starting to get frustrated.  “West Virginia?”

“Getting warmer!” I say.

Alright, I’ll spare you the rest of this 50-state guessing game.

Connecticut.  Yup, really.

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut group says it is the first in the nation to register to raise money to draft Sarah Palin for president.

Paul Streitz of Darien says the Federal Election Commission has confirmed the “2012 Draft Sarah Committee” is the first to file papers.

Streitz says all donations collected by the committee will be used for grassroots organizing to build support for the Alaska governor and John McCain’s running mate last year.

Streitz says the committee so far has collected about $3,000. He says donations will be shared with Palin’s organization once she declares her candidacy, which she has not so far done.

The only people more excited than Sarah Palin’s fans, are Democrats.  The notion of watching a series of debates with President Obama may be infinitely amusing, but remember, she’ll have to get through the angry mob of Republican contenders first.

@Problem Child – thanks for the link to Paul Streitz. Why, if he lives in Maine, is this being done in Conn? Maybe because those folks in Maine have the sense to elect moderate Rebublicans like those two fine lady Senators.

In the article on Pat Buchanan: “There was a Draft Pat Buchanan campaign that I ran and he called me up and told me he was not going to run. No reason. Just not going to run.” So, does this guy run around starting Presidential campaigns without the person’s knowledge/consent?

Its a little like the death throws of the terminator as he is consumed in molten metal, or the slow motion train wreck that makes horrible noises, and never stops crashing.

Consider the curious case of Jonathan Krohn, who wrote a book defining conservatism, for past present AND future generations, and addressed the CPAC. Apparently even a bright 13 yr old kid can ape the gestures demeanor and message of the conservative ‘movement’, and conservatives lap it up.

“He still has the zeal of a missionary. His voice rising to a wobbly squeak, he grabs any opening to press the cause. “Barack Obama is the most left-wing president in my lifetime,” he said.
Mr. Krohn buried his face in his hands. “Oh, Jonathan,” he sighed.”

His utter lack of humility and perspective is the most disturbing. Like AKM mentions about Palin; how she does not give any regard to how others perceive her. This kid may be amusing act now, but may be discarded like a pet rock later, or even worse, he may find the means to sustain the illusion that what looks cute and amusing in a precocious kid can sustain him through adulthood.

After reading the NYT article, I was expecting more from his 2 minute speech at CPAC. It was bizarre, as though he wasn’t just the product of the talk radio they themselves promote; as if to say ” See ? Out of the mouths of babes! We must be on the right track!”

Johnathan Krohn is Sarah Palin’s and Rush Limbaugh’s love child. I love that line. I’ll repeat it often … heh heh heh

    Oil is Not Dead Fossils
    By Paul Streitz
    May 21, 2008 – 12:41:11 PM

From Mr. Streitz, who seems not at all rational.

Oil is not decayed fossils. Oil prices are the same as eight years ago, measured in gold.

Oil is made by a biological process of converting helium that comes from the nuclear reaction at the earth’s center. The helium is a result of the atomic reaction and is thrown toward the surface by the rotation of the earth. Some evidence for that would be: 1) oil exists at 30,000 feet, far below the 18,000 feet at which organic matter disappears; 3) dry wells are later opened; 3) the amount of oil pumped out of the earth to date can not be accounted for by organic matter.

From Wiki – a little about Darien, CT

Darien is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. A relatively small community on Connecticut’s “Gold Coast”, it is one of the most affluent towns in the United States. The population was 19,607 at the 2000 census.

Situated between the small cities of Norwalk and Stamford, the town is a bedroom community with relatively few office buildings. Most workers commute to the adjacent cities, and many also work in New York City. Two Metro North railroad stations — Noroton Heights and Darien — link the town to Grand Central Terminal and the rest of the New Haven Line. Although Darien has an increasingly vibrant downtown, residents often shop at the big-box stores and chain stores in neighboring Norwalk and Stamford. For recreation, the town includes four small parks, two beaches on Long Island Sound, four country clubs, a hunt club, and two yacht clubs.

With a median home price of approximately $1 million, Darien is one of the most expensive places to live in North America, and was rated one of the best places to live in America by CNN in 2005.

By the way – most of those clubs are still restricted. Palin wouldn’t make it past the front doors – not enough money.

As a former CT resident (Waterbury and Bristol), I was ashamed at first…then I remembered: it’s DARIEN for gosh sakes!! It’s pretty much a suburb of New York anyway.

No, we won’t let them do that.

People should stop being afraid and stand up to these people. Here’s one suggestion: focus on the young girls. A lot of them idolize Sarah. We have to make an alternative for them before they are of voting age in 2012 and 2016.

Don’t write off the tweener girls — they are the most marketed-to group of people in the country, just ask Marjorie Dannenfelser, creator of the Team Sarah Sarahjugend.

I hang my head for my native soil. *sigh* Understand something about Waterbury. Located in the dead center of the state, it’s the anchor city for what is called “The Valley Area.” This is a depressed post industrial town with healthy crime rates and a nightmarish school system. The population works in service, blue-collar, and corporate support type jobs. THis does not imply a smear; rather, in my experience, I have found minds to be… less ope there than in other areas of the state. It’s right near Meriden, and the area used to be the home of a Grand Dragon Vizier-KKK type, or so the story goes. If there were a place in proudly New England/liberal Connecticut that would be home to the kind of nutbars that would support GINO, it would be there.

However scary I find the prospect of her escaping from Alaska into the rest of the US (just look what happened when Texas let Bush out of the insane asylum)
I just don’t think she can keep from sabotaging her self.
She can’t keep her mouth shut.
She is not a team player.
She climbs over other people’s bodies after she has stabbed them in the back.
She does not do her homework.
Her intelect is at best skin deep, and she’s OK with that.
She is not a good listener.
She does not get it, that disrespecting other people’s religious values is insulting and ticks them off no end.
She does not get it, that other people are as sincere in their beliefs and values as she is and that they resent her bad mouthing them and their beliefs.
Once she gets beyond her dozen of so talking points, Sarah really has nothing to say.

I don’t think even Karl Rove could get control of her or keep control of her for long enough to keep her from self destructing.

The longer she shows what she is made of the better.

However, we must never take our eyes off her. People like her and Bush are very dangerous when they have power.

What Frank didn’t mention (I know, I came out of the exact same millieu growing up, just on a smaller scale) is that their little experiment was almost over and practically imploded last year with the Palin pick.

I said somewhere else – I’ll be laughing at all the Southern Baptist Convention males who can’t even bring themselves to warm up to female pastors, having to choose between the woman, the Indian Catholic who changed his name, and the Mormon.

If it’s anything these people are good at, it’s circular firing squad over dogma.

They put those dogmatic squabbles aside for the past 30 years, to hate on the gays, abortion, and The Libs. Next they’ll have “the socialists”….it’s always something with these people.
