Palin Makes a Hot Date With the GOP. (UPDATE – Or Did She??)
Apparently the GOP leadership has gotten over it. Last we heard from them, they were all sniffly about the fact that Sarah Palin said she was cancelling her appearance at their winter retreat because of “pressing state business”, when she was actually right down the road at the Alfalfa Club dinner, and palling around with fundraisers. I believe the exact quote was, “She lied to us!” But, perhaps after her runner up, Bobby Jindal dropped jaws in DC and across the nation with his “epic fail” speech, rebutting Obama’s first address to Congress, they figured they’d better kiss and make up.
WASHINGTON – Gov. Sarah Palin will deliver the keynote address at a dinner sponsored by the House and Senate Republican campaign committees. Palin, the party’s 2008 nominee for vice president, will address the annual Senate-House Dinner June 8 at the Washington Convention Center.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, called Palin one of the GOP’s most popular and recognizable faces and a proven leader who “represents a breath of fresh air from the business-as-usual crowd in Washington.”
Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, praised Palin’s conservative values, achievements in Alaska and “sheer energy.”
The GOP is seeking to rebuild after losing ground in the House and Senate and losing the White House in 2008.
They’re still stuck on that “breath of fresh air” talking point. And now we can add to her list of qualifications, “sheer energy.” OK, I get it. But what are all those “achievements in Alaska” the gentleman from Texas is talking about?
UPDATE: Whoops! Not so fast, GOP! For the update, CLICK HERE!

Sheer folly!!!
‘achievements in Alaska” the gentleman from Texas is talking about’…— strictly fiction. IF the press on any scale need further explanation, the ‘gentlemen from texas’ will follow the number 1 rule of the republican party when dealing with the press: Make Something Up.
Details…details….
If scandals, tax evasion, ethics violations, family dysfunction, and habitual lying are their thing to energize the party so be it. Can’t wait for the Palinisms that will spout forth during her speech.
SHEER ENERGY!!! What a scream.
Thankyou AKM.
Should we send “them” a pack each?
Strong rumor has it that Karl Rove is an “advisor” to Kay , Rick’s opponent. ruh-roh……..come on down Sarah !! If she does , and it is here in Austin and open to the public , I hereby state that I will hold up a sign saying “I am AKM”.
Well they are desparate, what else can I say? Glory be to the idiots who think SP will get very far w/ the general electorate. They are so out of touch that nothing they do or believe at this point surprises me. Energy? Yes, very common for narcissists. I’m sure she’ll be energizing all the blinded fools while she throws up her word salad all over them, also, too.
Hey, her resident skeletons want those pantyhose back, AKM! Everyone keeps stealing their props out of her closets and they are just dyin’ to get them all back for their dress up parties.

When I heard that on MSNBC this morning I just knew you’d have a great comment, AKM. Too, funny…I love the idea of sending them a pack of Sheer Energy for place markers on their dinner table….would love to see a pic of that one.
Never found those things did anything for my energy levels. In fact, pretty much by definition, a panty hose day is a draining day.
The achievement (singular) Sessions cites must be that she is still, against all common sense and common decency, and contrary to the common good, still in office!
I think the Repubs are doing a lot of sniffing. What a joke.
I think that with the economy being so depressing they are looking for some comic relief!

BTW, somebody needs to research a little history piece about the Mat-Su valley in the late 60′s. I’m still really annoyed about that crap writing that said people in the Mat-Su valley in the 60′s all survived through subsistence living. I know that isn’t true, but I don’t know where to find records about stores, businesses, etc from back then. We need an expose on life in the Mat-Su in the 60′s. Please.
@ womanwithsardinecan
Call our aunt in Big Lake for a history lesson – she’s love to hear from you!
If the Gino is the best the GOP can do, it really is a sorry day for the once Grand Ole Party. I can remember back in the 70′s when some of my friends and relatives where holding GOP offices in ID, I kind of admired some of their ideas and goals. Mind you I said, “some,” because I have been a life long Dem.
But after years of constant decline the GOP is really scaping the bottom of the barrel.
It might just be that the wise old coots that have gotten our nation into such a mess may be setting the Gino up to continue to take the fall-out as they hid behind her skirt tails. I’m sure they need someone to blame and she will do a good job of looking foolish and mavericy, hoping to cast her spell on the base, as she spins her web of mischief and lies. Watching the Gino become the Good Ole Boys next monkey on a string sould at least give us something to look forward too, over the summer.
Well, well, well. Looks like they’ll be having “word salad” with/for that dinner!
The day is coming when Palin, gets ripped to shreds. Of course, she thinks she’s the savior and the resurrection, of the republican party. In all probability, she won’t advance beyond the primary. It’ll be a “turkey shoot,” do they have “turkeys” in AK?

It appears she may be the best they’ve got? Har-de-har-har.
GINO, Michael Steel, and Rush Limbaugh… and THESE are the chosen representative leaders of the GOP ! Older white men’s brains must turn to pure mush.
Martha, mom said that Aunt Nancy didn’t get back to the Mat-Su valley until the early 70′s. But mom also said that after the war, particularly in the 50′s, long before the Heath clan showed up, the area grew steadily, and the previous mostly subsistence lifestyle of pre-war residents gave way to growth and big grocery stores. The people there did continue to hunt moose and such, just like our father used to bring home deer and fish when we were kids, because it was free meat and sport. And of course most people had vegetable gardens with all that summer sun.
Somebody with access to local historical documents (Anchorage Library perhaps) could probably do a great job of exposing the disingenuous myth that “biographer” is pushing.
just sayin’…
In Juneau, as Governor of the Far North, I hereby appoint you Senator of the Far North.
All you gotta do is–just be yourself.
@ womanwithsardinecan OT OT OT OT
Yep, the valley was so uncivilized that there were NO grocery stores (you had to hunt or starve), but the residents WERE concerned about how to stock the snack bar w/ live game when they were building the college in Palmer.
http://www.frontiersman.com/articles/2008/01/13/valley_life/doc4789a89f5c790214608959.txt
“As the Mat-Su Valley grew in 1950s, many expressed a need for locals to have more access to higher education, Mat-Su College Director Dennis Clark said. In 1957, that desire turned into serious discussion, and it wasn’t long before classes were underway.”
“As time passed, the college began to grow in both educational offerings and enrollment, he said. During the 1960s, the college introduced English and science courses, and enrollment continued to increase. By the mid-1960s, the community college began making major changes. In 1964, Palmer Community College became Matanuska-Susitna Community College — the same year the Matanuska-Susitna Borough was created.”
Now do you Mudpups see why I’m a little worried about the local sarahs and rushes we have in Texas?
Feel free to send Pete a note about the sheer energy of his twisted crush on sarah (or maybe it’s not a crush, perhaps he is simply unable to write as coyly as John Cornyn) at his official email:

Fluency is not a prerequisite for membership in the republican party.
I’ve just been really bothered by those lies, and they are easily disproven. Just because it is an “unauthorized” biography doesn’t mean we can’t use it to make GINO look bad. They killed moose because everybody did, and because they like to kill stuff, not because the Heaths were some sort of frontier family. Oh please. Spare me. My Mat-Su grandpa and grammy would laugh in their face if they were still alive.

Well there’s the problem! Palmer, again just a few mere miles away, wouldn’t let Wasilla residents into the stores ya know. And besides that, you had fly your plane or mush a dog team from Wasilla to Palmer just to TRY to sneak into the stores! OH MY!
http://wikimapia.org/6914834/City-of-Wasilla
“During the Great Depression of the 1930s the federal government formed the Alaska Rural Rehabilitation Corporation to set up the Matanuska Colony for the agricultural development of Alaska. This influx of 200 farming families and supporting services meant that from 1935 until the 1960s, instead of Wasilla, the town of Palmer gradually became the primary supply and service center for this region.”
“Palmer remained the regional commercial center until a new Glenn Highway bypassed Palmer allowing more direct travel from Wasilla to Anchorage. The subsequent development of the new George Parks Highway to Fairbanks (through Wasilla) in the early 1970s opened opportunities for the first wave of “suburbanite” settlement. This meant that with ever improving roads and business opportunities Wasilla shifted from a small town and weekend destination for people from Anchorage to a hometown for workers in Anchorage and Wasilla.”
Martha, I really don’t think this Mat-Su stuff is that OT. It goes directly to GINO’s fake mythical upbringing and the reputation she builds on that fakeness. The same fakeness that has the GOP touting her “achievements.”
Did the founders of the college have to push through a circle of muskox to break ground? Did residents have to forge a river to get to the vegetable garden on the other side? Did Daddy Chuck have to leave school before classes were out so that he could bag dinner on the way home?

So, the Heaths were BARELY in Wasilla during the 1960s anyway! Instead, they were only 15 miles or so from ANCHORAGE, the state’s largest city with a connecting major highway. Oh and don’t forget to read about how education was a big deal in this family…
http://dwb.adn.com/outdoors/story/9463551p-9374818c.html
“The Heaths came to Alaska in 1964, hauling their belongings up the Alaska Highway from Idaho…a few years later, the Heaths relocated to Southcentral, first in Eagle River and eventually in Wasilla. At the time, there was not much to Wasilla, and Palin said she remembers being outdoors was a big part of family life.”
Education was the focal point of the Heath household…”Every kid should be so blessed with an elementary school teacher for a dad,” Palin said.

So basically they lived on the outskirts of Anchorage until the early 70′s, at which time they forged some rivers and hooked up the musk ox to their wagon to move to the frontier town of Wasilla to start a life of subsistence living. Okay, got it. also. too. you betcha.

“Breath of Fresh Air” Is when she leaves Alaska. The GOP business as usual is a pretty stinky, oil-ly affair. I’m sure the perfume GINO uses is a welcome inspiring fume. We lived in Palmer the summer of 79, left and returned in 83. As I remember, Palmer had a grocery store across from the fairgrounds,( the little mall that’s now Dmv/Fish&Game. ) Other than that It consisted of 5 bars and liquor stores. Koslosky’s general store closed in that time period so if you wanted to shop local, you went to Wasilla. They already had much bigger and more diverse stores than Palmer.
I’m searching the digital archives for more info, tons of it on Palmer, very little so far about Wasilla . Few pics of tent city and the auctioning of lots. Some of Knik from the 30′s. http://vilda.alaska.edu/
My mom was raised on a homestead in Palmer. Grandpa was well known around those parts. He was called “hard workin’ smitty.” The joke was whether he got the name for running a sawmill and railroad (sisters, help me out here, the old stories are fading and I can’t quite remember anymore) or because of the 11 kids.
BigPete – don’t sugar coat it. Also – doesn’t the PAC pay “attack ferret” ?? Dang – there has to be a point of diminishing returns where even the blindest say “nada”.

Update from Sean Cockerham in Juneau —
I just got a call from Gov. Sarah Palin’s spokesman, Bill McAllister, who said these national Republican groups jumped the gun in announcing Palin would be there.
“The governor has not confirmed,” McAllister said.
McAllister said he has no idea why the National Republican Senatorial Committee and National Republican Congressional Committee announced Palin as the keynote speaker. “I don’t know, I’m kind of stunned…She’s been invited but that’s as far as it’s gone from our end, is my understanding,” McAllister said.
You know what’s so funny about this… her speech is bound to be focused on “DRILL BABY DRILL,” and her questionable credentials regarding energy policy.
I’m taking bets now that she comes up with nothing new. Who’s with me?
Big bucks that she will try to tout the same old tired line about reforming Washington, reforming earmarks, searching above, on and under Alaska as the answer to the nation’s energy woes, fundamentalist 7-mountain Christianism (though this will be muted and in parables or analogies), and the rest of the speech will be about how awful the media is, how unconscionable the Obama administration is (elucidated with lies or simply not elucidated at all), and how great she’s governed Alaska (NOT) these last 3 years.
Maybe the June GOP planners didn’t check the “First Family is invited” box.
Palin is _NOT_ confirmed for the speech in June. See ADN update.

Can you really believe what Bill McAllister or Sarah say?
HELL, NO!
Gee, I hope CAPHARAS has enough money to cover this.
I’m assuming of course that she wouldn’t try to pawn this trip off on the taxpayers of Alaska right (though one should never assume anything if Governor Grifter is involved)? Maybe GINO should check with her lockbox the keymaster to insure she can come out and play.
Palin is _NOT_ confirmed for the speech in June. See ADN update.

The original is hilarious as it shows the Senator truly suffers from delusions of grandeur:

McAllister did not say she would no do it he said she had not confirmed.Bet she is waiting for more butt kissing since Jindals speech went over so well (not)With the bush people, natives hungry and needing fuel to keep warm or cook food she would look bad is she says yes right now. LOL wait til summer them watch what she says
OMG, imagine her in DC requesting an audience with The Honorable Obama……
Now that is something I’d like to see on TV….a true meeting of the Intelligent and the Ignorant….
The GOP is seeking to rebuild after losing ground in the House and Senate and losing the White House in 2008.
Not to point out the obvious, but um, wasn’t SP part of the reason that the GOP lost the White House in 2008?
