Meeting Tonight on Resource Use in Alaska!

Just got a call from blogger Shannyn Moore.  She’s very excited about a meeting she is leading tonight at the University.  Anyone interested in alternative energy should definitely attend.  Here’s her message:

I am leading a meeting at the University tonight on resource use and paradigm shifts in Alaska.  Please join me! Rasmussen Hall, Room 110 at 6o’clock.  Then – well…green beer for me!  I want your voices!

Paradigm shifts and green beer…..sounds like a good way to spend the evening to me!

Well damn, too far for me :( wish I lived in Alaska sometimes…AKM hope you will fill us all in about the meeting and “Happy St. Patricks Day” to you all!
    What is “green beer”?

    SabrinaNo Gravatar says:

@crystalwolf–green beer is green beer! On St. Patty’s Day bars put green food coloring into beer for a festive touch.

It’s awfully quiet here in the flats…everyone must be out celebrating the saint who drove the snakes away. Wish he’d come to my yard. I HATE the GD things.

Oh! lol, duh! I guess I’ve never had “green beer”! Yes Its quiet, now. What kinds of snakes come in your yard?

My favorite beer server said he had some green food coloring around somewhere. I turned him down but got very sociable with all the folks at my favorite bar (Italian, $2 pints, I go for the famous DIPA, aka DUI-PA). Instead of food coloring, we all decided to get social and gab, exchange recipes, check out the local music in the local paper, talk about the new venues in town, fill in the Soduku (sp?), and blather about the equinox. Yeah, I live in a small town. OT as usual. So…. when do I add the cabbage? I have Savoy.

OT sorry – but once again, not “her” fault! Even Meg is spared!

Here’s the deal with all the confusion over whether Gov. Sarah Palin will headline the Washington D.C. fundraiser for Congressional Republicans in June. Apparently SarahPAC mistakenly confirmed Palin would go without asking the governor.

“Someone helping me out on the East Coast…in the enthusiasm of Sarah Palin and the enthusiasm of providing some sort of response confirmed that the governor was coming, and that wasn’t appropriate because the governor didn’t even know of the invitation,” said Meg Stapleton, SarahPAC spokeswoman.

Stapleton said Palin first learned of the invitation when the National Republican Senatorial Committee sent out a press release yesterday announcing that Palin would be keynote speaker for the annual Senate-House dinner in Washington D.C. on June 8.

    The announcement made national news.

ummm…one of our local resources is beer. We have multiple microbreweries. Is that on topic enough? Oh hell, I’m part Irish and part Native. Beer and corned beef and cabbage and gabbing.

Well AKM did mention “green beer” soooooo….?
I would add the cabbage when the corned beef is almost done, I don’t think it takes that long to cook, and you don’t want it like sauerkraut (no offense Sauerkraut :) )
My Ex SIL had cut hers into “wedges” to cook it. If that helps…? Good luck :)

C4P is calling this “miscommunicationgate” lol!

  12. 12

womanwithsardinecan Are you using real corned beef or the stuff from a can? Either way, you should probably add the cabbage sooner rather than later, along with quite a bit of liquid/ stock/ broth. Not an expert at this, but I think your oven setting should be quite low. I’d use a crock pot and add cut up onions and taters as well to add with the cabbage.

  13. 13

Oh well, crystal wolf says later. I guess I just like my cabbage well-done (reduces gas, I find). And looking back, I see you are using Savoy cabbage, which shouldn’t take as long anyway.

Oh I’m just guessing! The last time I tried to cook it….it CB & C didn’t come out…I’m playing it safe tonight and cooking stew in the crockpot!

Then back and forth , down the line , up the line………OK – I know we have someone here who can do the numerical possibilities……just the 10 I’ve named….if there was only 1 correspondence , what is the number of possibilities of contact between the 10 ?? yeah – I’m drinkin’ green beer……..

    MaeveNo Gravatar says:

Regular cabbage benefits from long slow cooking – as does the corned beef – so a crockpot is ideal.

Savoy cabbage might be better cooked less.

My Mom cooks two kinds of cabbage with her corned beef – some of its cooked in the crock pot along with carrots and potatoes (and the corned beef) and some of it more lightly steamed for those whose stomach cannot stand so much grease (my Dad says its not the same without all the grease – and only the cheap fatty corned beef tastes right!)

If I was a true Alaskan (rather than a Cheechako) I guess I’d have my corned beef with Pilot Bread but I am having mine cooked with potatoes and carrots and some swiss chard on the side!

  21. 21
    womanwithsardinecanNo Gravatar says:

Real corned beef, real cabbage. I’ll add the cabbage near the end. Savoy doesn’t need much cooking. Don’t want to activate the sulfuric elements of the cabbage family. The smell is heavenly but the meat isn’t tender yet. More tv.

  22. 22
    womanwithsardinecanNo Gravatar says:

Don’t have time for low oven if I want to eat it tonight. I’ll turn it down when I add the cabbage. I like my cabbage just past blanched. Just waiting for the little chunk of corned beef to tenderize. Hot oven to hurry, vinegar and beer to tenderize. Oh hell, I refuse to follow any recipes anyway, much less cooking advice. I am mavericky when it comes to cooking.
