    MARCH 17, 2009 – 12:37 PM

The Tanana school district is $200,000 in the hole and needs an injection of cash or faces a tough choice: Stop paying the bills, or stop paying teachers.

That’s the message this week from Tanana City School District Superintendent John Bania. Click here to read his description of the problem.

Gov. Sarah Palin’s rural adviser, John Moller, plans to visit the village on Friday, according to the letter.

Bania hopes Moller will then plead the school’s case to the Legislature.

To save money, the school has cut employees’ hours – sometimes by half – and canceled some athletic travel such as basketball trips, Bania said.

My parents taught me very early that the best thing you can ever do in life is to say thank you. In this case, it carries a very powerful message.

I work for a nonprofit, and most often people who donate aren’t concerned about what they get for their donation … they just want to be thanked and know their gift had meaning.

RED STATE SOCIALISM and the Politics of the Stimulus
By Jon Perr (Crooks & Liars)

In just their latest posturing for the 2012 Republican presidential race, governors Sarah Palin (R-AK) and Mark Sanford (R-SC) joined Texas’ Rick Perry, Mississippi’s Haley Barbour and Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal in announcing they would reject some of the federal stimulus funds allocated to their states. But as the steady one-way flow of tax dollars and earmarks spreading the wealth from Washington to their states shows, de facto red state socialism is alive and well.

As a 2007 analysis of federal spending per tax dollar received by state shows, the reddest states generally reaped the most green. Eight of the top 10 beneficiaries of federal largesse voted for John McCain for President. Unsurprisingly, all 10 states at the bottom of the list – those whose outflow of tax revenue is funding programs elsewhere in the country – all voted for Barack Obama in 2008.

The numbers for Sarah Palin’s Alaska are particularly telling. While Palin declared she would reject $288 million (31%) of the $931 million funds allocated for schools, energy assistance and social services, her state led the nation in earmark dollars received per capita in the omnibus spending bill just passed. (Alaskans got almost $210 per person in earmarks, while Californians got $16 and New Yorkers $13 in comparison.)

Interesting that ADN shut down their comments down on the Palin articles.

I’ll bet you anything that megamouth or McAlister squawked to ADN to take the comments down, because they were pretty overwhelmingly anti-Palin. I’m sure they are on the horn with the higher-ups at AND daily crying FOUL!

Every time, and I mean every time there is an article, look at the comments and sort them by popularity. The anti-Palin comments are always on top. You have go down pages and pages to finally find a pro-Palin comment.

Or, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks ADN cut a deal with Palin to squelch the comments to keep the insider-info coming from the Palin camp.

RE: ADN Remember that ADN also stopped putting some of the anti-Palin blog links on their online articles, too. Some of her supporters had complained about it. It is quite possible that ADN is pro-Palin. If they were to lose subscriptions over their position, it might change their minds. : )

Regarding ADN being pro-Palin…I may be wrong, but I think ADN endorsed Obama/Biden. I think that was the one….

I have a simple question..Why can’t some buy a half-page ad in the ADN with a real simple message/ question.
” Why is our Governor calling Voters in Iowa? ” (BIG bold letters)
It would make people investigate what the story is all about… if they didn’t know already. Would ADN let somebody buy an Ad like that..?

Hey, Mudflatters….Slightly OT…..Help with a mini rally for Regina over at palingates.blogspot.com/

She has the the interesting juxtaposition of PO’s quip on Leno’s show and Palin’s truly ghastly and inappropriate radio interview. Also, a very interesting post about Palin’s Personnel Board.

Regina writes beautifully researched and written blogs but she’s almost ready to give up.

When things are slow on the Flats…..check out Regina. Rally. Rally. Don’t want to lose a great anti-Palin voice!

Someone earlier today had posted a story (on the HuffPo )from last August where Sarah paid almost 1 Million dollars of State funds to the Mat Maid Dairy…. and then it closed. With that huge amount of waste… why has there never been a Federal Attorney General Inquiry (not a Friend of Palin’s ) into these shenanigans. Was it reported in the News..? Here’s the link.

OT but I just thought of this. I remember reading where some religious group financed legal help in the Palin ethics investigation, but I don’t see that on her financial disclosure form.

    WELL DONE MUDFLATTERS!
I get the feeling that things are going to snowball – now people are seeing GINO dissent, more and more people are going to lose their fear about speaking up.
Your dam has cracks in it GINO – and far too many for your fingers to plug. Buh bye “Reign of Pain”.

    http://www.alaskadispatch.com/palin-watch/10-palin-watch/1043-palin-critic-runner-up-for-alaska-journalism-award

FROM THE ALASKA PRESS CLUB: A stay-at-home mom from Wasilla whose email information about Alaska’s governor took on an Internet life of its own during last year’s presidential campaign has won a “Special Recognition” award from the Alaska Press Club.

Anne Kilkenny, 60, is the runner-up to this year’s Howard Rock/Tom Snapp First Amendment Award, which the Press Club describes as recognizing “Alaskans who demonstrate exemplary advancement of First Amendment values.” Surely you remember Kilkenny, the woman who wrote that widely distributed, highly critical email of Palin during the presidential election.

John Creed, president of the Alaska Press Club, says:
“Anne Kilkenny might not think she was courageous, but she willingly shared information that helped Americans make one of our most important political decisions-election of our president and vice president-without fear of personal consequences to her or her family. That’s the First Amendment in action.”

    Re: KTUU coverage of Palin.

Is it just me, or does KTUU seem to be a liiiitle on the conservative, pro-Palin side? I know they had coverage of the demonstration, but it just seems to me like more often than not, they don’t seem as critical as they need to be when covering Sarah. Plus, and I’ll just call this speculation, but I’m guessing the main constituency of KTUU is overwhelmingly conservative, hence the pro-Palin ‘bias’ in their poll results. I dunno, just a theory.

As for ADN, yeah I think they are overwhelmingly Obama, but let’s face it, Palin sells papers, and in this day and age they can hardly afford to ‘piss off’ or otherwise alienate the Palin constituency. The more Palin coverage they can squeeze in, (preferably positive from their point of view), the better for them on the profit side.
Also, consider this. When they first came out with the news that Palin rejected stimulus money, they said she had rejected about 45% of it. Cut to about three hours later, and lo and behold the amount she rejected had magically gone down to ‘more than 30%’. Mind you this was after many, many angry people posted on the original 45% posting. I guess my point is, (and I’m sure this is no news to anyone here), that the Palin camp is very intent on controlling their message, even if it is on an external site). They are probably very aware of the symbiotic relationship the ADN has with Palin, and are going to exert whatever control that they can on the main news provider up here, that being the ADN.
