For Every Explosion There is An Equal and Opposite Implosion. (for Sarah Palin)

23 03 2009

Well, it may not be Newton’s Third Law of Motion, but it sure seems to be true today.  Mt. Redoubt, the famous Alaska volcano which sits right across Cook Inlet from Anchorage and the surrounding area has been exploding for the last 24 hours.

And now, in a bizarre demonstration that the universe is in some kind of balance, a series of implosions, also in Alaska.

#1.  Looks like Team Sarah has crossed over from simply being saucer eyed, mindless cheerleaders, into being paranoid crazy sitting-in-a-dark-room-peeking-through-the-curtains, saucer-eyed mindless cheerleaders.  Not only have they banned the Alaska Dispatch from the group, they are now requiring anyone registered at Team Sarah to provide their phone number and personal information to avoid “trolls and spies”.  Phone number?  Yes.  Phone number.  With over 67,000 registered members, the fact that TeamSarah administrators think they are going to actually keep all those bad “haters” from seeing what’s going on by asking for phone numbers is a bit….naive.  They may as well just post a big notice on the front page, daring those pajama clad bloggers to figure a way in.  A kid hacked Palin’s personal email account without too much trouble.  Team Sarah is cake.  A carrot cake for progressive spies.   But it’s still fun to watch their paranoia get the best of them, as they run around trying to plug all those leaks.  At least it keeps them busy.

#2.  Geoffrey Dunn strikes again. He just keeps methodically firing cannonballs right into the hull of the HMS Sarah, and we get to sit back on the deck with our feet up, and watch, and listen to the sound of splintering, groaning wood.  His latest on the Huffington Post  is a look into the bizarre netherworld of the Palins and their “Pallin’ Around with Scientologists.”  A must-read.

#3.  And it’s not just those evil “libruls” who have a beef with Palin.  The conservative Alaska Standard has a great article on Palin’s speech at the Lincoln Day Dinner.  Seems that not everyone drank the Kool-Aid at the Republican soiree.  I know in my case, I was going right for the alcohol.

[Palin] spent the bulk of her speech talking about tearing down and critics, but nothing about the economic future of the state. She announced what the personal financial cost of her “open and transparent” has cost her to avoid being open and transparent. As a matter of fact, only one person spoke of issues greater than self with any conviction and clarity, and that person is the clear face of the Alaska Republican Party: Lisa Murkowski.

Ouch.   That was a nasty one.   She might need stitches.  Quick get the salt!

#4. More than 600,000 people tuned in today to watch American Morning on CNN today.  It featured an interview with none other than Joe McGinniss, author of the now infamous article in Portfolio entitled “Pipe Dreams.”

AM: I would like to start off this morning by rewinding to the election campaign. Let’s play that tape of Sarah Palin talking about the gas pipeline. (tape rolls)

Sarah Palin on tape: “I fought to bring about the largest private sector infrastructure project in North American history and when that deal was struck, we began a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence!”

AM: Joe, the way that she framed that during that speech there at the republican national convention it sounds like it’s either shovel ready or under way already.

McGinniss: Well, that’s the impression that she created, and it turns out to be very, very far from the truth. In fact, the companies, Exxon, BP and Conoco that have the natural gas to go into the pipeline are simply not going to do business with Sarah Palin because she won’t tell them the rate at which she’s going to tax that gas. As long as she takes a stand against sharing tax information with the big companies, they’re simply not going to put their gas in the line and she has nothing to put into that line but hot air.

She calls this a “hit piece”. It is in a sense that it hit the bulls eye, really, and less than 24 hours after the piece came out, she called a press conference in Juneau to announce she was reversing her policy against sharing tax information with the oil companies. So, up in Alaska they’re calling this the “Portfolio pipeline”.

AM: Her spokesperson said it should be no surprise this pipeline isn’t yet under construction. “It seems to expect people to be surprised by the fact that the pipeline is not under construction,” talking about about your article. “That’s not much of an ‘ah-ha.’ Anybody knows this will be years in the making. The governor herself said, ‘I won’t call that reporter,” talking about you, “an idiot, because I don’t know that reporter. But the headline was idiotic, we’re not standing in the way.”

McGinniss: I wouldn’t call the governor an idiot because i don’t know her either, but her position is certainly idiotic and not in the best interest of the people of Alaska.

CNN: You made several attempts to interview her, what was the response?

McGinniss: They said she would not agree to an interview, unless she could be guaranteed that the piece would be favorable. She would only be interviewed by people who she knew would be favorable about her to help her prospects for 2012. Obviously, I couldn’t commit to that. Portfolio Magazine wouldn’t commit to that.

#5.  And finally, implosion #5…….   I can’t tell you.  Sorry to do it to you Mudflatters, but trust me when I tell you, it’s a good one. Well….unless you’re Sarah Palin.  A press release is imminent in the next day or so, so I’ll let you use your imagination.  It’s like a blog cliffhanger!  Tune in tomorrow when Sarah Palin is stunned by

Oops- I posted this on the Poop thread. Sorry.

I hope you’ve got a good one for us AKM because you’ve got everyone’s hopes up and imaginations going wild! There are so many possibilities I can’t even begin to imagine what it could be.

The Religiongate sounded promising though. How did she pull that one off? Constantly having to defend herself is going to exhaust her both financially and emotionally. And theoretically it should kill her politically.

My hope is that she just gives up on politics, takes the book deal, sends Todd back to work full time so she can be a much needed SAHM to her kids and grandkid, live off the book royalties and leave us all alone.

    That’s my dream…

From the last uncompleted sentence, it sounds like something is coming from the feds – corruption charges, illegal campaign contributions, IRS audit, kickbacks, misappropriated funds, emails. Hope she does not find a way to wiggle out of whatever it is. Not to mention all the family drama and the long lists of ‘gates.

Well, that’s the problem, isn’t it? There are so many things to choose from that it’s hard to make a guess.

However, when I was listening to the news at 10pm – good coverage of Redoubt here in Seattle, btw – they mentioned that tomorrow (Mar. 24) is the 20th anniversary of Exon Valdez oil spill. Which sent me back here after I checked google. I don’t see anything in particular, but the timing is right if there is some news story that’s important. I’ve no idea what it could be, but still, . . .

So, AKM, are you posting this in the morning or sometime after midnight. Only 20 minutes to go – LOL.

  29. 179

.. “The complaint alleges a conflict of interest when Governor Palin wore specially designed snow-machine gear advertising her husband Todd’s biggest Iron Dog sponsor, Arctic Cat Inc. She did so while acting in her official capacity as Governor of the State of Alaska and official starter of the Iron Dog Snow Machine Race.

Not only was she well aware that there would be extensive Alaska media coverage, the Palins also knew that international magazine Sports Illustrated was coming to do a story on Todd. “

The Alaskan Legislature is preparing a press release regarding opening up impeachment hearings on Governor Sarah Palin.

The “I’m not taking the stimulus package, because people running my SarahPac told me not to”….was the last straw…..for many legislatures. And they feel that her ambition for national office, is over riding her ability to govern in the State of Alaska, and caring enough about what is good for the Alaskan citizens vs what is good politically for Sarah Palin.

    I will betcha….

It isn’t epic, its just more of the same. How many ethic violations/charges does this woman have against her already??

You think the Attorney General is going to do a thing about this??

    He was handpicked by Gino.

    Nuff said right there.

And I really got my hopes up that it was going to be something HUGE, as in IMPLOSION huge…….

Can someone please list all of Sarah’s “gates” for me? I lost count. (Holding head together, Cue William Shatner voice). Head…hurts! There’s…just…so…many! Can’t…keep…track…!

But after her, there is another source of evil who needs to be ousted for the good of the country’s future: Michelle “We must be armed and dangerous” Bachmann. Yikes.

    InJuneau Says:

Actually, the current Acting AG is someone who has been around in the Dept. of Law since way before politics was a twinkle in GINO’s eye (I think; in any case, he’s been there for ages). He’s beyond reproach, so if this can get dealt with before she gets around to appointing a new permanent AG, we may be in good shape; although I think it’s an issue that has to get passed along to the Personnel Board, so maybe not so much, since we all know who butters their bread.

  39. 189

According to Celtic Diva, Palin is not ankle deep in dog poop; she’s up to her eye balls in kitty litter:-)

Would #5 be…the newest ethics complaint? That Sarah was advertising for Arctic Cat at the Iron Dog?

  41. 191
    InJuneau Says:

I think that is the #5 cliffhanger, esp. since The Immoral Minority is reporting on it too.

  42. 192
    Rob in Ca Says:

This is pretty minor stuff. Seriously, what is the damage from this violation? She gives back the jacket and promises not to do it again? I am not a Palin supporter at all, but I think the sight of Palin with her family at the race, promoting a big Alaskan event, was a good thing, and the poor judgement of wearing the Artic Cat clothing is pretty minor stuff. Have her promise not to do it again and let’s get back to talking natural gas and rural Alaska issues.
By the way, this is also a waste of the Personnel Board’s time and distracts from so many larger issues they should be allowed to concentrate on.

  43. 193
    godenstein Says:

rob old buddy that’s a great point but how often must her acts of poor judgment be overlooked? there’s so much of this type of stuff that critical mass leads to the obvious claims of corruption. or would that, too, be a distraction from all those larger issues they need to focus on? if she’d start behaving and following the law, there would be none of these issues. or complaints of ethics violations.

  44. 194
    Martha Says:

    FYI;

    You won’t even believe this.

The Republicans have called on none other than Sarah Palin to headline their big fat-cat fundraising dinner. You know they’re going to use every last dime they raise to try to slam the brakes on President Obama’s change agenda.

You know what I say? Thanks, but no thanks – how about you get back on that bridge to nowhere, Sarah.

We’ve got to beat her and the rest of those “no, baby, no” Republicans standing in President Obama’s way by winning this FEC fundraising battle on March 31st. It’s the only one in President Obama’s first 100 days. It’ll show everybody that America stands behind President Obama and Democrats fighting for change – not Sarah Palin and the “just say no” Republicans.

Contribute $5, $10, or more now to the DCCC’s Million Dollar Match campaign. If you give today, they’ll match your gift 2-to-1, tripling its impact.

We need to make sure our Democratic voices for change are stronger and louder than all their “Party of No” talk.

Republicans are trying to change the subject by going on the attack. First, it was the daddy of all Republicans, Rush Limbaugh, riling up the GOP base by rooting for President Obama to fail. Then it was RNC Chair Michael Steele transferring $1 million to bolster the House Republicans’ campaign war chest. One Republican even fessed up that his party’s goal in Congress isn’t getting anything done – it’s tearing down approval numbers for Democrats.

They’re coming for a fight. Let’s give them one.

Contribute $5, $10, or more to the DCCC’s Million Dollar Match campaign before Midnight March 31st. If you give today, they’ll match your gift 2-to-1, tripling its impact.

In 2008, Republicans got heartburn every time they came up on one of these big FEC fundraising deadlines. So what do you say we keep them on their heels?

    James Carville

P.S. But even as we watch President Obama and House Democrats bring change on everything from the economy to health care, to energy policy, the last thing we can do is sit back and kick our feet up. The world is watching to see how strongly we support President Obama in his first 100 days

    Liz P. Says:

Ok, the chronology is not clear. You wrote the cliff hanger on 3/23 Monday. IT is now Tue 3/24 and Celtic Diva has filed a new complaint against Palin on the Arctic Cat wear.

IS THAT THE CLIFF HANGER, OR IS IT STILL TO COME.

I adore Linda for filing the complaint, BUT it is still “just” one of many and may or may not be a nail in her coffin, depending on how the AG handles it.

I am hoping the “cliff hanger” is of greater shock value than “just” another ethics complaint?

Come on, there are sooooo many scenarios that we can all think of that could ( and will hopefully ) eventually happen and like a kid at Christmas who is hoping for a pony, a bicycle can be a disappointment.
