Yep, sorry to disappoint but it is Snoskred again. 
AKMuckraker is taking a well deserved sanity break.
We are hopeful that sometime in the next 24 hours, both the blog and the forums will go into maintenance mode. You will probably be inclined to sigh and maybe even sob.. however I am here to tell you to be very happy when this happens, because this means a couple of hours later we will be able to cope with a lot more traffic.
This does not mean The Mudflats team has been idle. Oh no, my friends! We have been collecting up links to bloggers – and who knows whether they are anonymous or pajama clad?
I can say this much – the length of this links list will certainly keep Rep. Doogan very busy, trying to out them all. He might even get confused and try to out some of those who are already using their real name!
Before I post the list, can we The Mudflats Team ask just a few favors from you all, while our beloved AKMuckraker is taking some time out.
1. Please do not feed the trolls.
You need to be aware that some sites are going to target The Mudflats as a result of recent events. We are dealing with those comments as fast as humanly possible – replying to them just means we have to delete your reply as well as their trolling post.
2. Please do not use AKMuckraker’s real name in the comments area.
We do not ask this because we think the cat can get back in the bag. We ask this because AKMuckraker did not willingly choose to share her real name with us. Rep Mike Doogan decided to force it upon us. It is the principle of the thing, yano?
3. Please do not post links to websites which contain personal details about AKMuckraker on the blog or the forums.
We are aware there are some people out there – ironically – muckraking AKMuckraker! If we could ask you to be respectful of AKMuckrakers privacy here on the blog.. We have no control over what happens elsewhere.
4. Please be patient.
Now that there is an article on the Huffpo front page, it is likely we will see a lot of traffic here. If we could respectfully ask you not to sit on the blog comments hitting refresh, as that adds greatly to the server load. Make a deal with yourself to only refresh once every half an hour – and that way, everyone will get to view the site, including new visitors who have never been here before.
Alternatively, move your discussion over to the forum, which copes better with discussions. See this thread.
5. Keep an eye on the Action Alerts area of The Mudflats forum.
Any calls to action will be posted in the Action Alerts area first. There are already two there – and Dr Chill has some excellent ideas for an email writing campaign in the updates thread. Click here to visit this area. This also means – if you have an idea for a call to action, you should post it in that area, so it does not get buried in a long comments thread. Not everyone has the time to read all the comments here, but they might have time to write an email, send a letter, or vote for something.
In return, we will keep updating the links in this thread on the forums, monitoring the comments, and shooing away those pesky trolls.

I like the point made that we are visitors to the blog, not customers. Got up super early this a.m. due to the troubling thoughts of AKM’s being violated and really, the heart of this matter. Its all about privacy. Blogs are about privacy and choice, privacy and choice…privacy and choice! (this could morph into something else, and it kind of does, Rights that are being threatened time and again). Doogan really screwed up!

Guilty…I was in my pajamas as well.
So, since Mike Doogan things that people should not be allowed to remain anonymous, when will he be revealing the name of the person who gave him AKM’s real name? If he doesn’t do this, then perhaps he can explain to us why it’s ok for his source to remain anonymous but not for AKM. I put that question to Mr. Doogan, but have not received an answer other than to be told that I was now on his “list”.
Please if you do send him an e-mail, do it from an anonymous account. I suspect I made a big mistake by e-mailing him from my personal e-mail account.
I came for the dirt on Sara Palin and stayed for AKMuckrake’s witty postings that kept me interesting in the political happening in a state miles from my own. It was good reporting, and just plain good writing. I never for a moment wandered about AKMuckraker’s real identity and am at a total loss as to why it would matter to anyone other than people who actually know the blogger personally or to unstable individuals who stalk other people because they don’t agree with opinions. Doogan acts like he has done the public a real service, when all he has done is potentialy caused harm to AKMuckraker. My thoughts and good wishes are with you, AKMuckraker.

I’m appalled by what happened to AKM. What is most remarkable to me is the complete lack of any logic behind Doogan’s action. If he thinks that to hide behind a pseudonym is a sign of cowardice, then he could have simply ignored AKM. Instead, he decided to disclose the identity of AKM to show… to show… I don’t know, to show maybe that he’s small and petty? Anyway, a great Italian writer, Leonardo Sciascia, once put in the mouth of one of his characters a line that is now famous in Italy. It says that there are different categories of men: uomini, mezzi uomini, uominicchi, e quacquaraqquà. [men, half men, little men, and quacquaracquà]. You have to figure out the meaning by yourself. To give you a hint, Doogan is the perfect example of the last group, so you don’t really need a translation.

Not a frequent poster, but a daily visitor since I wandered into the Mudflats last fall. I have been truly impressed with the wide ranging discourse and , thanks to AKM, I have learned a lot about Alaska, good and bad. My day is not complete with at least one visit. Over the last 24 hours I have struggled to control my emotions which range from anger (wanting to slap a certain DOOfus silly) to sadness (again, wanting to slap a certain DOOfus silly). I feel like a very good friend has been violated and a bit helpless as I am thousands of miles away. But I can offer my prayers for AKM and family and am committed to support to the best of my ability any and all of the following….AKM and the Mudflats blog, any candidate running against Doogan, any candidate running against Sarah Palin. This includes financial as well as personal effort in the form of letter or emails. Looking forward to reading an AKM post soon.

No worries Katie. Both my husband and I contacted Doogan’s Juneau office and gave his assistant our names and phone numbers. I requested that Doogan contact me personally if he saw fit, but advised his assistant to tell him “be ready!” I was polite but firm.
My husband advised his assistant that he will be contributing to whomever runs against Doogan next year, and not just a little money, the max amount allowed by law!

Thank you for the update and the links. It is comforting and reassuring to know that AKM has such wonderful, sustaining, supportive team of folks helping out–not suprising though as AKM is such a brilliant writer and human being who we really hope to hear from again soon. She is greatly missed and too important of a voice to be silenced for long. As angry as I am about what Doogan did, about the best I can do is pray for him as he is a sorry soul.

Here’s my reaction: The Internet can be a creepy place. Hang in there AK Muckraker! I’m not even in Alaska, but from my remote outpost in OK, I’ll gladly offer whatever good vibes I can.

Over the next few days and weeks, people who have never been to this site before, who don’t know AKMuckraker, or The Mudflats, who don’t have the time to read through comment threads which are 600+ comments long, and who won’t know what all the acronyms stand for, are going to arrive here.
The majority of them will stay here for a short time. Some of them will return and soon they will be a part of the flats, just like the rest of us. If they do not return it may be because they feel like this is a clique of people they’ll never fit in with.
Now we all know that everyone is welcome here, we’ve been here since the start. But they won’t know that, and the acronyms and the shared jokes and the backwards website names will completely confuse them. The really long comment threads will scare them – they will think they can never keep up with reading this blog!
Now might be a good time to keep it simple.
If you have something to say that would be better put on the forums, now would be a good time to make use of them. Just a thought..

I wrote an email to Doogan after I saw his obnoxious post on the state site. And I did think to use my yahoo email rather than my personal one that I use all the time. Then I posted some comments and the email that I sent on my live journal – it seems to be the one where political things end up. So, since Mike Doogan things that people should not be allowed to remain anonymous, when will he be revealing the name of the person who gave him AKM’s real name? I asked the same question

I put that question to Mr. Doogan, but have not received an answer other than to be told that I was now on his “list”. you’re on his “list”? I wonder, as a non-Alaskan if I’ll be on his list. Just what would he do with this list anyway. He’s beginning to sound more McCarthy-esque all the time.
Please if you do send him an e-mail, do it from an anonymous account. I suspect I made a big mistake by e-mailing him from my personal e-mail account. yep, done. I almost sent it from my personal email, and then thought better of it. Of course, now I’ll probably have to get a new yahoo identity.

Thanks for all the great coverage during the campaign and I am very sorry you have such a pathetic bunch of politicians in AK. You’re a great blogger and more real a journalist than this Doogan. Please keep up the great work and I hope the voters of AK can rid of us Palin & Doogan (and their clones) once and for all.
