Bedtime in Alaska – Odds and Ends.
Well, it was quite a weekend, and it feels good to be back behind the keyboard.
A huge thank you again to the hundreds of you who have reached out with messages of support and solidarity! You all astound me with your messages which are so full of compassion, insight, intelligence and humor.
The weekend has seen all kinds of eruptions! Not the least of which has been our very own Mt. Redoubt. And if you were wondering….yes, (with best Tina Fey voice) “I can see the volcano from my house!” Actually all I’ve seen from my house until today was a very dark area of cloud/ash where I knew the volcano was. But today, for a brief moment, through the haze, I got to see it. It’s got a nice new covering of snow on top, and it doesn’t seem to have a different profile than it did before, because the eruptions seem to be happening off to the side of the peak. One thing I have noticed, in addition to the coating of ash that fell the other day, is that we’ve been having very lovely sunsets because of all the extra particulate matter in the air. Here’s a nice one with the sun getting low over the mudflats.
Anchorage was hit with a dusting of ash over the weekend. It was strange to look out and see a blanket of grey snow. Then the wind picked up, and blew the ash across the surface in little ash devils, and it came to rest in interesting swirly patterns, and settled to the bottom of footprints and animal tracks.
But today we had a fresh six inches of snow that erased all that interesting abstract ash art. And we also had a visit from Brenda the moose! Haven’t seen the old gal around in a while. Actually, I confess that at first I thought it was Brian. They have a very similar build. But upon closer inspection of the antler attachment area, it was clear that there was no telltale circle where antlers had fallen off. This was definitely Brenda, and we watched as she had a great snack of wild rose bushes, thorns and all. I have no idea how they do it, but the gums of a moose must be made of stronger stuff than most.
I’d love to tell you more about Brenda, like her surname and where she lives and all her personal details and everything, but go figure. She wants to remain anonymoose, and well….I just have to respect that. (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)
And here’s a link to a great interview that my friend and fellow blogger Shannyn Moore did with CBC radio yesterday. The subject? Mudflats! Kind of funny to hear them talking about us isn’t it? Shannyn was great as always. The interview starts at 20:00. Before this is all over, we may need to have a “navel gazing” category.

Well, goodnight Mudflatters. Consider this an open thread, since I seriously question whether you want to sit here all night talking about snow, ash and moose!

AKM,
And lovely pics also too.
Glad you are keeping Brenda’s identity anonymoose. Did you see the artwork over on Progressive Alaska…Doogan is the the doodoo, literally.
That should read….Doogan is in the doodoo!
Anonymoose (another one for my dictionary of words coined by AKM – getting pretty thick e.g. Snashman!)
Good Night!
Don’t give Doogan any ideas. He’ll surly think his $50,400 per 90 day salary should be used to vet Brenda.
AKM, You sound great and your posts are as usual inspiring! Thank-you for sharing the beautiful pictures. I hope you and your loved ones are holding up okay; you have nothing but our best wishes, thoughts and prayers.
Please continue to respect Brenda’s anonymoosity there are things only she is able/willing to tell us; and she does it in a moose delightful way!
Gotta run, but…. I started looking at Mudflats. Listened to the interview with Shannyn! She sounds sooooo cute and smart. How nice.
And I learned on how to answer a question without answering it whenever the interviewers probed with personal question about Mudflats. GREAT!!
LOL… I’ve posted before, but can’t remember if the NAME has always been required or if you decided we should all go down together! Ha, ha… anyway, I had to post about Brenda. I’ve neever seen a real moose that smiles.
Can you please get more pics of her?
She must be your totem animal AKMuckraker because she looks like one happy, smart and very devious little animal! Ha… I know she’s not little, but still she must mirror you because she’s haning out around your world and not someone elses!
Hope you’re feeling better. Why don’t you do some TV work? We can get you on MSNBC and then the whole country can get to know and love you like we do!
Sweet dreams!
lmao !!
mooseanonymous!
Something about that word makes doogan pop into my head!
maybe mooseanonymous nuggets for doogan!
Great to see you managed to hang on to your sense of humor, AKM
AKM,
Your pen and prose paints a beautiful picture of your ‘Little Kingdom’ of the Great North. Your Political Parable tells a beautiful story of Hope. The pictures You posted… just icing on the cake.
It’s time to shut it down here on the West Coast… in the Land of the Terminator.
As a suggestion for others when they wake up in the morning…. you might add a message to the Huffpo to show some support for our Friend here.
—————————————
Huffpo is running a thread under this Story…
“Huffington Post Launches Investigative Journalism Venture”
(my suggestion & my 2 cents )
Investigate how Palin and Her cronies are ‘ outing ‘ the real name of Mudflats blogger AKMuckraker in the papers. AKMuckraker is the one doing the investigations of the former VP pick. Support our own.
Howdy, I’ve been in Alabama for 3 weeks looking for a job (in vain) and have not had a chance to comment since. My cousin’s dial up connection made viewing the blog frustrating. I have to say the turn of events (your outing) had me fuming. How dare he!?
I came here sometime in the fall to learn more about Palin and her persona and you have taught me what she is about and how to reply to those that want to defend her. Your research and information about Alaska Politics shows that you know what you’re talking about and I respect your point of view. Bloggers rule!
Count me as one of those that will continue to return, day in: day out. Thank you for not giving up and thank you for your opinions and photos. I still think Brian’s snow dusted nose is the best photo in the world.
As an expat in Germany just wanting to move back ‘home’ (somewhere in the lower 48), I feel connected to my compatriates with reading your blog.
Mudflats is one of my favorites and I look forward to every post. Thank you.
AKM, I went to the Mudflats shop. . .any chance of getting the mudpuppy logo on a bumper sticker?
Any word on the tank farm? With all the lightning and such from the ash cloud, was wondering how it fared post-eruption. . .can’t seem to find much news on that.
But moosely, I just have to say it’s nice to see Brenda out and about again. . .
Oh, we might be able to talk about moose all night, but it’s nice to have the option not to…
Thanks for the pictures, love anonymoose and will listen to Shannyn’s interview when the rest of the household gets up.
It’s so good to see you back AKM, all is better with the world. I just wonder/worry how the Anonymooses are handling this ash business. Don’t think they’re able to wear face masks. Maybe just plant their faces in the snow while doing the Yoga position, like Brian was practicing. Take care & Stay safe!
Thanks for the update on the lovely Brenda. No problem with her wish to remain anonymoose. It’s not who she is that’s important, it’s what she represents! We heart Brenda and Brian. I salute you with my moose mug.
Thanks for the volcano update. I hope they’re being passed along to a certain governor in Louisiana.
Thanks for not fading away into the gorgeous sunsets you’re having there.
It’s important, too, that your elected legislators are advised by their constituents that the current AG choice has a conflict of interest with SP having represented her in the past.
I am hopeful your legislators will do the right thing and insist on having their choice of senator be seated. It surely is past time to get past cronyism and special interests. I am very hopeful they will accept the stimulus package for the good of your beautiful state and its awesome people. Also.
It seems our manners have fallen by the wayside, our beloved AKM is home and safe, and I hope I speak for all.
Welcome to our newest family of muddies! Cmon in eat, drink, and enjoy.
I understand, my neighbor [Ripley in CT.] makes a mean bread. Maybe someday I can swap some of my homemade Buffalo wing sauce for some of that homemade bread. Eh?
There are some great comments on the Daily Kos to go along with the article about Doogan’s outing of AKM. My favorite:
” I read mudflats all the time. Often there are political posts but sometimes it’s just pictures of a moose that visits the yard. Doogan’s behavior towards the blogger makes my skin crawl.”
“…a picture of a moose that visits the yard… ” Those pictures of Brian and Brenda along with stories of swing sets being moved by moose antlers were what got most of us back to sanity during the crazy election season. Mudflats not only was a great source of real information about an unknown Vice Presidential candidate during a massively important election but it became an oasis for the like minded that are intent on changing the political tide.
AKM you are showing a great amount of dignity. Along with our support, you have our respect, something Doogan isn’t getting much of these days.
You have to admit, it was pretty AWESOME how many lurking muddies showed up as well to show their support. Never posted before, but they needed to speak up, too from all over the WORLD! Still gives me goosebumps, yeah I stayed up until 7am reading all the posts myself. I’ve lurked or posted at several different sites, but I’ve never seen anything that powerful before.
Brenda may be “anonymoose,” but if she really wants to take it to the next level, she’d going to need get herself a set of pajamas and a basement.
Thanks for the pics. A lovely way to start the day!
Wow! Shannon was awesome in her defense of you and Mudflats, AKM!
How he can now claim HIS source should be anonymous is as jaw-droppingly hypocritical as anything Caribou Barbie ever said, and the fact that he used his official contacts to disseminate his garbage is stunning.
Oops! s/b Shannyn
Thanks AK …great pics and good update on Brenda…so very good to hear from you
shannyn was great on cbc…cant wait to hear about her meeting
and oh yes, you have built a wonderful communtiy here, one that we are all so grateful for…thank you for letting me be part of it
AKM like Kathy Mattea sings:
“While the world outside my window goes insane
Your here to remind me a few good things remain”
I,m sitting here in front of my 110 gal. tropical fish tank, and my tri color sharks are doing their mating dance. Absolutely beautiful!
Did all the Ladies make it home from the tavern ?? Ya’ll were singing “I am Woman” , holding hands , dancing………
Thanks for the updates.
While I came to this blog for political information initially, I have come to cherish the wide variety of topics covered.
I would not have known anything about the crisis in rural Alaska, if I had not read about it here first. Now of course following Ann Strongheart at Anonymous Bloggers is another of my must reads.
I look here for volcano updates that contain more than the bare bones information at the AVO.
And of course, I am addicted to the saga of Brian and Brenda, who shall always remain anonymoose to me!
Thanks you for all you do. I am so glad you continue to let your unique voice be heard, with such vivid writing. We are all richer for it.
Last I heard it was “We are Mudflats” hear us roar.

Good morning Upper 1,
People with a sense of humor are my kind of people. You Alaskans & Mudlings just crack me up! The flags in the poop are priceless. I think they should be used in all 57 states. Have a great day all, I’m off to plant some flowers.
Good morning! I’m so glad I didn’t miss ‘anonymoose’ (waving at Brenda). Can’t wait to hear what shakes out of Alaska today re: doogan.
anonymoose? LMFAO!!!
Hey all, if you enjoyed the Shannyn Moore interview about mudflats and you want to let CBC know or add something to the discussion, to keep this in the “public ear” a bit longer, you can e-mail them at aih@cbc.ca or phone 1-866-481-5718 (toll free in North America, I believe).
You can also e-mail them through their website. http://www.cbc.ca/asithappens/contactus.html
They read the best e-mails and run the best talkback messages on the air, usually the day (or sometimes two days) after the show airs.

OK so what about those anonymoose t-shirts?
A Hoodie even!
Good idea, Whabbit. What time is it there?
yay for anonymeese, er..anonymooses, um..anonymice?!
Yes, hello to new folks. Welcome.
As for those sunsets, I always figure it is a volcanic apology for messing up your yard. There were great ones after Pinatubo, and the painter JMW Turner is believed to have painted some at least one painting with volcanic sunset colors due to an eruption of Tambora.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Chichester_canal_jmw_turner.jpeg
There has been speculation that Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” was also influenced by volcanic sunsets, though some say that’s not true and he was just weird.
It was lovely to see Brenda again, but I wonder where Brian is. Wonder if he’s in hiding since the outing. Maybe little flags with Doog & the Queen could be sold at the Mudflats Store & could be distributed globally.
Speaking of “The Scream,” do you suppose somebody could whisper in Flyinureye’s ear about doing a version of it for the current Alaska situation?
womanwithsardinecan
Did you see the one he did at Gryphen’s place? Another good one.

Speaking of “The Scream,”
AKM used it many moons ago. It was funny , AKM started with one pic. , and then a pup suggested “The Scream” and that was the new pic. to go with the blog.
Martha Unalaska Yard Sign – you crack me UP!! I’ve got a 4th grader, and spouse’s humor is of the 4th grade variety so we are happily and anonymoosely making poo jokes!
WomanWithSardineCan – a remake of the scream by Flyinure? Oh that is a cool idea!!!!
To aonymoose technogeeks – I am still a newbie Mac user. We have no pc’s in our basement any more, so I have to figure this out. And it doesn’t seem to know what to do with the wmv file that is the Shannyn Interview. Help? Thanks!
You might want to check out Progressive Alaska (link on right, I think) – love the illustrations!
SmallSteps, just do a google for ‘MAC wmv player’ … you’ll find several free options.
Download, install, and voila! Happy listening.
I thought I remembered AKM using The Scream at some point, but has it been tweaked for the Alaska situation, a la Flyinureye? Seems perfect for volcano week. I’m kinda picturing DooDoo’s face on the guy, with a herd of little yellow boots coming down the road behind him. Actually I have numerous versions floating in my head.
Also, too, it is Dorfy’s dad who is the “moderate” on the Board of Game (the one who made the jihad comment about that stupid “kill all the bears” thing). What is Dorfy’s stand I wonder? And who knows how long Dorfy has been an aide to Hoffman? Is Hoffman a good guy? I checked on him a little. Bio says he’s a Native, gets pretty good ratings from conservation voters and Alaska independent business. Anybody know more background on this stuff?
I really think the “I didn’t realize I was registered Repub” kinda says it all, but I hate to grind the guy into the mud with the heel of my rubber boot without at least knowing a little more about him. And no, I don’t think the Dems should approve him, on general principles alone.
Yep, I think thats a tee shirt..

Is Brenda attracted by window-washing?
Thanks for the beautiful photos and point of view! I am one of your lurkers who just came out of the bushes. I’ve decided using the time of day as my comment handle is about as anonymoose as can be. I have been looking at your store and while there is some great merchandise all I want is a Anonymoose grey hoodie. Don’t make me just scribble it on an old one with a marker.

2nd entry. Warning: it’s rude, so nobody look if they don’t like bad slang…
Doogan, if you’re lurking, you can look.

No, I think it’s just Brian attracted to window-washing, mde. Brenda’s just attracted to men-moose who enjoy light house-keeping.
With all the artwork that has been inspired by GINO, and Codpiece, and now DooDoo, as well as the music (Halcro has a musical ode on his blog today) and the limericks and poems and puns, somebody (no, don’t look at me) should put together a dvd celebrating the artistic expression of Alaska Progressives. Including some edited and spliced samples of GINO on video. Then of course make YouTube excerpts and there you have it.

Can the caped poo-flaggers do a double poo flagging with both GINO and DooDoo?

AKM,
Thanks for the lovely post and pictures. You are a treasure. I love your elegant, intelligent essays. I love your sense of humor, your straightforward presentation of facts, the insight and care that are reflected in your writing. And now I know you are brave as well. You’ve been an important part of my day since mid-Sept when I first found Mudflats. You’ve been important to your state as well, presenting an example of thoughtful, calm citizenry that Palin’s election belies. (When my husband & I vistited the Inside Passage on a cruise in 2005, I thought Alaskans were a little odd. When I “met” Palin, it confirmed my view.) But you, AKM, you are the person Alaskans, and the rest of us, should set our standard by. I can’t wait to read what’s next.
oops, got interrupted and forgot to add the Ice art link…….

Brenda Anonymoose….. AKM, I’m grinning from ear to ear. You say you couldn’t resist. I say, thank goodness for that!
The spirit and resilience and humour and honesty and style and…. and… classiness and… my gosh, AKM, after what Doogan et al put you through, and how you have held your head high, kept your honour and humour and classiness…. there are some pretty amazing lessons to be learned here, IMHO.
Thinking back to the Primaries and the run up to the election itself, I believe it is not inappropriate to draw a comparison between the way you dealt with this horrible betrayal, and the way in which President Obama rose above the fray when confronted with the disgusting tactics his adversaries dealt him. Class, dignity and above all else, integrity. Both of you. As I just said, lessons to be learned…
It is an honour to be a mudpuppy; to be able to participate with other mudpuppies in an exchanging of ideas, a melding of the minds, a sharing of thoughts and feelings, commonalities and values, as we all muddle through the world as we now find it, after 8 very trying years…
Regarding Brenda Anonymoose, she is delightful. You captured her spirit, her personality, her essence, beautifully. Is it just me, or is she winking at us? I’d like to think she is… Thank you for sharing her with us.
As for the interview Shannyn Moore had with CBC-1 yesterday, thanks to some wonderful head’s up posts here yesterday afternoon, I was fortunate enough to tune in to the interview. Shannyn was very good, as you said. I was happy she was treated with respect by the CBC interviewer who seemed genuinely interested in what Shannyn had to say, and as well, asked questions that ‘flowed’, IMO. It did not sound like the interviewer had prepared a series of questions in advance. Rather, she posed a question to Shannyn based upon Shannyn’s response to the previous one. It was not ‘gotcha journalism’. As a Canadian, I am proud and pleased that CBC reported on the horrible outing of you and Mudflats last Friday. I would be less than honest, however if I did not mention my disappointment that neither Olbermann nor Rachel Maddow made any reference to what transpired. Perhaps today?
Happy Tuesday, everyone.
WCR
I also think it is time for a sign picket demanding the oil be removed from the storage tanks before something very bad happens……..make a sting alaskans. This is a non partisan issue.
Start stickin signs on your car, on your lawns, well snow mounds, lol……many may not be paying attention and don’t know of this danger. You don’t have to direct the message to Palin’s obvious lack of care but just plead that something be done, now.
Say something like “remove the Chevron oil, replace with water, before it’s too late and we have another Valdez”! Redoubt rules.
So good to have you still here!! These pictures are amazing! I love Brian, he’s so majestic. Thanks so much for always putting a smile on my face with your witty outlook on not so witty politicians.

Thank you for your blog. Southern California here. Found Mudflats early on in the campaigning, when questions about Palin weren’t being answered by the press and what we really wanted were some succinct and direct answers.
That said, Mike Doogan is a first class twit.
Appreciate the pics about snow, mooses, and ash. It’s getting warm here and we need more rain if we want to avoid water rationing and drought conditions. (More of our mountains going up in flames…) So nice to see places that have snow…. and named moose… and volcanoes….. never mind!
I couldn’t get the link to play (above) so does anyone have a transcript of what was said?
I’ll have to amuse myself by commenting more on Huffpo.
AKM thanks for the beautiful pictures you post, post more if you can do so safely please

After all Brenda and Brian are a set and should she should get equal billing. Just sayin’! Brian had his 15 minutes now it’s Brenda’s turn!!! Fair is fair!!! LOL
This from the “I Eat Gravel” site:
When asked about the influx of emails he was getting in response to his outing of Mudflats, Mike Doogan said:
“I’ve read about 200 of the 600 emails I’ve received and they’re all women and people from out of state. That’s the Mudflats audience. ”
wow – a chauvanist pig to boot!
AKM said, “it doesn’t seem to have a different profile than it did before, because the eruptions seem to be happening off to the side of the peak. “
That observation sent a little shiver up and down my spine. That’s where Mt. St. Helens blew up — off the north face (side) of the mountain.
Let’s all hope that what Mt. Redoubt has been doing is letting off the pressure that didn’t happen back in 1980 with Mt. St. Helens until her big blast.
Good morning! I was just over at Celtic Divas blog and she has a really good article for reading this morning: An In-Depth Look at Unethical Leadership. Written by, Robert Wechsler and his focus is our very own Gino.
I have a feeling this kettle of boiling water is gonna hit it’s max. temp, sooner then latter. With everything that is starting to go down, it’s beyond a rolling boil…..coming up quickly on rapid boil. The pressure is on and she has NOT changed her bad habits one bit. Why? It’s NOT her that has the problem, it’s eveyone else. Hence here comes the max. temp on a rapid boil and the kettle is going to blow it’s lid! Our legislators have had enough. Alaskan’s have had enough and our wonderful bloggers have really had enough. Kind of like a “Tempest in a Tea Pot”
Love those pictures of Brian and Brenda; always can tell when they’ve had their nozzles in the cookie jar (especially in winter).
I was thrilled to listen to the interview of “As it Happens” (CBC) last evening of Shannon Moore about Mudflats; it was a 5 minute interview. CBC seemed affected by the seriousness of the Doogan exposure and want to know more as it happens. This has hit a nerve in the community everywhere.
CAROLINAS MUDSTOCK. CALLING ON ALL CAROLINA MUDDIES TO PUT ON YOUR YELLOW GALOSHES and do a mudstock. Sorry for yelling, but wanted to get the attention of the muddies from NC/SC. Trying to get a Mudstock planned for the Carolinas. Anyone who is interested, please go to the Forum and check out Carolinas Mudstock under meetings. I am psyched about this and would like to get the ball rolling.
Ideas just keep popping into my head. If we had enuf interest, we could do a good ole Carolina pig pickin’ or not. Even have some local musically gifted friends who might be willing to play for a plate of food. Getting carried away…we could go much lowered keyed, also. I sorta like the idea of a picnic…something outdoors. The Eno River State Park would be a nice venue. It has a covered shelter, big open fields, woods, and of course, a river.
Brenda dropped by to show her support. Plus, she was probably getting a little jealous that Brian was getting all the attention. I am definitely a Mudflats addict.

Thanks! I’ll give it a try this evening – looking forward to hearing the interview, and now I’ll be able to play all those crazy things my mom forwards to me and get a good laugh. Happy anonyMoose day everyone!
It is common for a volcano to vent a little off the main peak, because the top of the peak is often plugged from the previous eruption and the steam/magma may find a pressure crack that branches off below the main plug. I wouldn’t be too worried about a Mt St Helens style eruption. That was a special set of circumstances (yes, the magma did follow one of those side pressure cracks) with tremendous pressure building up and bulging out the mountain, and releasing all at once due to an earthquake setting off the landslide. Redoubt has already blown its pressure cork and is venting frequently, thus keeping the pressure down. That said, Redoubt has had a “great eruption” in the distant past, and there is always a possibility of a new large pulse of magma coming up and wreaking havoc. But that is one of the things the AVO can actually track, because moving magma produces a unique tremor signature.

So DooDoo thinks that women aren’t part of his constituency? What a PooBag.
As for the out-of-staters, whether he likes it or not, mostly due to his dear governor and his corrupt colleagues, Alaska is in the national spotlight and is not getting favorable attention. Somebody remind him that Alaska’s tourist industry depends on those out-of-staters he is blowing off.
@”JoeLaRocca,”
Perhaps consider writing to Doogan and letting him know you are a man? Because right now, he seems to think that as a reader of this blog you are female. Thanks.

Okay Joe, why don’t you write some complete truths, write out the transcripts, post articulate arguments with links to your sources…
Or maybe just make a hit and run criticism with no substance preparation or merit.
Either way…

I concur. I’m not seeing a lot of substance in his criticisms. Either pony up with some specifics or stop throwing your own “grenades,” Joe. This place is about discussing, not hit and run.

As far as your concern about spending more time on the site, you don’t have to read everything that is posted on the forum, just read the topics that pique your interest.
That said, the Action Alerts board on the forum is the place to find all the ways to take action on what has happened. Again, the decision as to whether you want to take action is up to you, but you should check out the board at least once a day (and that once a day can only be 2 minutes, btw

Re: #77 – Snoskred and DooDoo’s comments yesterday in the Legislature…
I went to the link provided in Forum and the comments are great. Here’s one in particular that caught my attention:
“One wonders then why he cared enough to out AKMuckraker, if the audience is just women who cannot be of use to him because they are not close enough to try and pick up..”
I also have anger management issues I’ve been working hard on (and making some progress), and expanding my reading to even more comments, sending off emails, etc., often increases my anger, which I just can’t afford. I have deliberately chosen to be mostly a cheerleader here on the blog, with minimal forays into calls for action, because I need to protect myself from the negativity that brings out in me. I knew when the last email I sent to GINO was completely over the top that it was time to stop going down that road. However, I’m always up for a boycott, and if anybody is in my neck of the woods I would be up for a northern Cali mudstock.
AKM: “Consider this an open thread, since I seriously question whether you want to sit here all night talking about snow, ash and moose!”
AKM, have you ever known us to be at a loss for words about ANYTHING?!

Joe, head’s up. You’d better send a quick note to Doogan in protest. He’s accused you of being female…. I’d be fuming if I were you, especially after you went to the mats for him this weekend. It looks like it wasn’t worth your time and effort. No appreciation whatsoever. Go figure.
If in fact doogan is commenting on his situation where it can be overheard, I think that indicates either he has not lawyered up, has a really bad lawyer or is steaming along on really bad advice from non-lawyers. Silence is his friend right now, his mouth is NOT.
Dear AKM, I am so glad that you’re still posting! Last autumn, a friend told my sister about Mudflats and she shared the info with me. It was so much more than just a political blog – we learned about a beautiful state that most of us have never had the chance to visit. (Having moose visit your yard – bitchin! We have white tail deer by the herd here, and the occasional wild turkey flock, but moose, wow!) We were able, through Mudflats to help aid people whose elected officials didn’t care to bother with and it felt good to realize that no matter how rough things are, we can still help each other. The photos above are gorgeous – for it all, and the bonus of humor and wonderful writing, thank you!!!!
“I’ve read about 200 of the 600 emails I’ve received and they’re all women and people from out of state. That’s the Mudflats audience. ”- Doogan.
Doogan is apoplectic with envy, precisely because The Mudflats’ out of state audience is an international audience-we can be sure that the ‘Visitors extended map’ did not escape his attention, while he was desperately searching for clues.
For the longest time, Doogan has been strutting around the backwaters, pretending to be a One-man Alaska Intelligentsia-so we can imagine his rage as he’s left behind (with his typewriter) in the internet age.
Women have the right to vote in ‘the last frontier’, don’t they?
Isn’t the internet, especially the Web, wonderful? When Gutenberg invented moveable metal type and books became available to first, the educated elite, then the masses, politicians like Thomas More ranted and railed against the bible printed in English. More burned every book he could get hold of, because people being able to read for themselves took away his power and influence.
The internet with all its related technologies, is a massive power for public good as great as Gutenberg’s invention, and not Mr Doogan, nor anyone else, can do the slightest thing about it. You either get on board or get left behind, and he’s definitely not on board.
The Mudflats blog is a snowball rolling downhill, and you know how big they get

Hi All:

Since I am not a resident of Alaska, I doubt they would receive take the complaint from me. But, I suggest that all Alaska Mudpuppies file an ethics complaint with them. If you send them an e-mail, I’m sure they will send you a form too. I wish I lived in Alaska so I could file an ethics complaint against him.

A legal thought-
I’ve read some interesting arguments about Blog privacy.
One says you can be a private anonymous blogger if you’re unpopulat, but if too many people LIKE what you’re writing, you lose that right. Hmmm.
Also I think people have falsely characterized the offense as revealing AKM’s name. I don’t think thats it. I think Mike’s violation was to eay that she wrote Mudflats. Names and other public info are not protected.
You can go through the phone book or land records tax records and political donation records and see her name my name etc. The violation was to take her name and attach it to a private Blog- Mudflats.
Why so technical?
The AK law allows people to reveal names and addresses.
It doesn’t say they can reveal their authorship of blogs.

“I’ve read about 200 of the 600 emails I’ve received and they’re all women and people from out of state. That’s the Mudflats audience. ”- Doogan.
So he has read 1/3 of his e-mails and has made that judgment based on them. That doesn’t say much about his critical thinking skills, does it. Besides, I’m betting he has received way more than 600 e-mails.
Hopefully there are Alaskans out there today who are filing ethics complaints against Doogan. If I lived in Alaska I know that’s what I would have been doing yesterday.

Just been mullling over thoughts in my head re Doogan outing our beloved mudflats. You can read the comment policy above. I never mind people with differing opinions, but I do mind rudeness and name calling. Perhaps people need to get themselves all worked up to post in a forum that they know disagrees with them. Or they’re just angry for one reason or another. I’m not sure exactly why. WCR
Looking back, I now see that antiAntiNo quoted the same passage… I didn’t initially notice this therefore apologies for being redundant.
Question: how would DooDoo know if e-mails were from out of state? A yahoo.com address, for example, doesn’t indicate where the person lives. The ISPs don’t even give out personal information without a court order.
Women? How many women do you know who advertise the fact in their private e-mail addresses?
I also doubt he’s read 300 critical e-mails. After all, he couldn’t be bothered to read e-mails from 30 of his own constituents and address them individually, which is what earned him the moniker DooDoo in the first place.
The only possible consolation for him now is, the whole world now knows who Mike Doogan is. The downside is, they all loathe him! I can’t tell you how many conservative Republicans, never mind liberal Democrats, are disgusted by his repugnant behavior.
The man’s career – political or journalistic – is OVER.

Speaking of “Joe’s” I got Joe Mcginnis book yesterday “Going to extreme’s”
Has anyone read that book? This is the guy who wrote the pipeline to nowhere article on GINO…
he says that in ’75″Downstairs in a committee chairman’s office elected representives of the state and non-elected representatives of the press” would
snort lines of coke “to get rid of their alcohol hangovers” and then go down and make decisions that would change the very state of Alaska. (Pg 17)
That part kind of reminds me of what’s could very well be happening with the exception of a couple of them…with GINO going batsh**t crazy appointing GINOWAR and a 2 wk old dem, what kind of drugs are they doing up there???
And doo-doo, his little petty asinine, vindictive bs over the weekend.

Point well taken. (Thanks).
Just a comment about Joe and his opinions helping the diversity here (not). At first I was just accepting him as a sort of skeptical voice until I noticed the lack of substance to go with the shots he was firing. I finally tuned in enough to recognize him as a certain “type,” virtually always male (sorry you REAL guys, this isn’t an insult to you), that projects a fake “reasonableness” and fake rationality, which isn’t borne out by their actual words. It’s a cover for somebody who is actually promoting illogical, empty ideas. This type of guy has a rather inflated view of himself. The good thing about these guys is that they tend to accelerate their comments, and the lack of substance and logic becomes more visible.
I’ve met quite a few of this type over the years, still wondering if there is a female version. I was married to one of these and subjected to endless “reasonable” arguments that were nothing of the sort. Just sayin’…
So ends my armchair psychology moment. Carry on. I’m going back to the couch.

From the HuffPo story linked to ADN about the Greundorf (SP?) appointment I have always wondered about her ‘appointments’.
Has any blog in Alaska compiled a list of her High School friends she has appointed (to her Cabinet) and to what positions they have… and their qualifications..? Who are they?
My post on ADN suggested a name for them.. ” Palin’s Band Camp” ( Others may use it)

Please send your good vibes her way so that I don’t have to call my sisters and tell them she’s headed for the hospital. My life pretty much revolves around keeping her out of the hospital. All well wishes, good vibes, and prayers welcomed in her direction.

OTOTOT sorry, but so excited President Obama and Michelle are in London, only 65 miles from me.
Guess I missed the worst of Joe’s comments. I agree that name calling has no place in a discussion.
What is it that overwhelms people’s rational processes? If it is anger, they should learn how to vent it productively or privately. Maybe there are a lot of people who are insane or on drugs when they make irrational statements.
Is there any effective way to deal with them and bring them around?
Let me start by saying I’m a conservative and I didn’t even know about your blog until yesterday. I’m not going say which way I lean with SP, but I will say that I’ve always been a big fan of Doogan. Until I found out what he did. I just think it’s horrible, there was absolutely no reason to “out” you other than for revenge and malice. While you and I probably have very different views on politics and social situations, I believe that we BOTH have the right to our opinions and we BOTH have the right to question our leaders. I am just so heartbroken for you and your family and your business (yes, I know all about you because of Mike Doogan).
I know you didn’t want it this way, but at the same time … what an opportunity! See, I didn’t even know about your blog, but now I will probably follow it because I like to read “all sides” and make informed decisions. Also, I think it’s pretty cool that an Alaskan has created such a popular political site … good for you! I’m sort of proud. Also, you never know what kinds of doors will be opened to you as a result.
And the cherry on top of the cake is that this does make Doogan look bad … as much as I would like to say it doesn’t. He is probably already regretting it, and you will be the one who is propelled while he prepares for his fall.
Good luck … I don’t agree with some of your views, but I support and defend your right to free (anonymous) speech.
I’d love to see the ‘ Movie’…. a Comedy like American Pie.
They already have the movie, you can watch it every day on Faux Noise. You didn’t think that was a REAL media station did you?

Joe was making criticisms of no real substance. Sometimes its hard (for me) to tell if there’s anything behind the summary statement that seems a bit rude or challenging, or if their real purpose is to just disrupt. AKM made a judgment, and explained that maybe they need to be riled up to get the courage to come over here to the ‘enemy camp.’ Once here they’re to upset to have a rational disagreement.
In any case if they are rude and can’t engage in a civil rational argument, SPLAT!

Paula: Yes, it was. AKM has never had a problem with comments that disagree, but rudeness was never tolerated and I for one am SO happy about that.
Why is it so hard for some to politely disagree? Heck, even just coolly disagree… An adult can be utterly passionate about a subject, yet should still be able to refrain from escalating a discussion into a shouting-match.
Key-word: ‘Adult’.

ACTION ALERT: Time to Make Our Voices Heard on Palin’s Senate Pick
It never ceases to amaze me just how petty Alaskan politics can get sometimes – especially when they smell a chance to stick it to Sarah Palin. This week, the issue is Palin’s appointment of a new State Senator to fill the seat vacated by Troopergate ringleader/Obama appointee Kim Elton.
Under law, Palin had to appoint a Democrat – and her appointee then has to be approved by a majority vote of the sitting Democratic Senators. Normally, the local party in the vacant district (Juneau, in this case) would forward a list of nominees to the Governor, and one of them would be picked. However, in this case, the Juneau Democrats decided not to submit the traditional three nominations, and put only one name on the list – State Representative and staunch anti-Palinite Beth Kertulla. Palin asked for more names, but the Juneau Dems refused. So, she exercised her right to appoint any Democrat she wished, and instead nominated Tim Grussendorf, who was chief of staff to State Sen. Lyman Hoffman (D-Bethel). Grussendorf is clearly qualified for the post, but now some Democratic Senators are trying to defeat his nomination and try to force a Kertulla pick.
This is ridiculous and petty, and I personally think it’s time for the Anti-Palin people to stop behaving like toddlers. So, I figure that I will introduce you to each and every one of the people involved in this and tell you how to contact them – just so that they know we’re watching. (All names will be hyperlinked to their profiles at the AK Legislature). There are only 9 Democrats in the Senate (5 needed for majority), so it shouldn’t take too long to identify the key players.
I talked to someone familiar with the dynamics of the situation, and it appears that two Dems from Anchorage leading the charge against Grussendorf: Sens. Hollis French (remember him?), Bill Wielechowski, and Johnny Ellis. This could be personal for French, who wants to run for Governor in 2010 and would love to shoot down anything Palin does. On the other hand, most of the non-Anchorage Democrats seem favorably inclined toward Grussendorf. He’s almost certain to get a vote from his old boss, Lyman Hoffman, and my source seems to think that he’s going to get backing from Sens. Donald Olson (Nome), Joe Thomas (Fairbanks), and Joe Paskvan (Fairbanks). If this is true, Grussendorf only needs one more vote to get in, and we have two swing voters to focus our efforts on. They are:
Sen. Bettye Davis (Anchorage)
Sen. Albert Kookesh (Angoon/SE Alaska)
So, if you want to call or email, I would focus on those two – and then make sure to call the other four who seem to be leaning the right way to encourage them. If you want to call French, Wielechowski, and Ellis…well…have fun. Davis will likely be under pressure from the other two Anchorage Senators, so they will need some pushing, and Kookesh could be our best bet seeing as he doesn’t have the Anchorage connection (he’s also the one making this post possible – the vote is delayed because his plane is snowed in). Granted, he’s from Southeast Alaska, so he could have some loyalty to Kertulla.
I’ll be doing my best to publicize this, and I will be posting the final votes here – so you will all know who did the right thing and who caved to the pressure from shadow-Governor French. Tim Grussendorf seems like a decent guy, not to mention a longtime staffer for a Democratic State Senator, so there’s no reason he shouldn’t be voted in (other than personal animosity toward Palin). Plus, Rep. Kertulla wants to run for the seat in the next election anyway, and one Juneau Democratic official told the Anchorage Daily News “she would beat him (Grussendorf) like a drum.” So, if that bravado proves true, then this is not exactly putting a crimp on her career.
It’s time for Hollis French and his friends to quit with the pettiness, let Grussendorf in, and get back to the serious work of government. Let’s do what we can to see that they do just that.

Welcome to the site caz. I like your post, and hope you will come back often.
This is a good site, and does give good reliable information on what is going on in Alaska. The people here are just trying to bring about a more responsive government in Alaska, and bring those self serving government officials to light. Alaska needs a few good statesmen and women, but it seems like they are in short supply these days.
I have no problem with Poo4Palin contacting people about Dorfy, as we do that all the time. However, I noticed that there was no mention of Dorfy’s switched affiliation, his pathetic excuse, and the information that the Dems had considered him for the original list of names but found his length of time as a Dem to be problematic. Ignoring the reasons for fighting Dorfy’s appointment, while padding their own reasons (Kertulla and gang want to “stick it to Palin”), and of course completely ignoring GINO’s constant fight with the leg. AND ignoring that this is about replacing a DEM that was chosen by VOTERS (not Palin) is of course typical of their one-sided outlook.
@here_in_PA–Wow, must be by an R; he can’t even count. He says, “…and it appears that two Dems from Anchorage leading the charge against Grussendorf…” and then lists THREE! Never mind that he seems to have missed that little detail about Dorfy only having reregistered as a D in the past few weeks after 2 1/2 years registered as an R!
I like to go over there just to see what they are saying, and they seem to print the most recent stuff from GINO, there’s and article about Tim McGraw playing as Toadie in a movie. Haven’t seen anything recent for a movie lately.
Hi! Here in PA! Guess we’re playing phone tag!
Had Palin picked someone who had been registered as a Democrat for the last 12 months, then she might have a point, but since Dorf has been a registered Demo for 2 weeks, that is an example of sleezy hardball politics. Whether or not he is a Demo at heart is not the issue here.
Looks like it paula, am doing laundry and got all the windows and doors open, is beautiful out.
Sarah pulled a Palin.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Palin
Bits and pieces: Maybe the 400 he didn’t read were from constituents? He pays lip service to being accountable to his constituents, but here’s the thing – how does he know who they are? Is he personally acquainted with everyone who lives in his district? Does he take the time to check them off a voter registration list every time he gets a communication? Probably not. I think he disrespects his voters as much as he does everyone else.
And he doesn’t seem to understand that he has no personal authority as an elected official. He’s part of a team of legislators; without the rest, none of them can act. You can be the best player in the world, but without a team – there is no game. That said, he also represents that team when he acts and speaks. His peers need to check that, as least internally.
Since it was just kind of dumped out there, apropo of absolutely nothing, and because of the timing, I wonder if it was done to provide cover to the Governor and distract attention away while other things happened. Very effective. The pot’s boiling over with the stimulus package drama, and announcements pending on the AG and Democrat seat to fill. All of that got derailed while everyone focused on Doogan. Very effective, well done. We were all so shocked and morbidly fascinated that we all just stopped talking about the stimulus money lies for the weekend. I think he probably scored some big points, there, eh? Wonder if he’s going to join Meg Stapleton.
I have nothing to do with any of these players, don’t them personally or professionally, never met them, didn’t know anything about any of it. I’ve read through the background so that I could understand. The thing that I see: Doogan didn’t out AKM; someone else did. He just made the announcement. Doogan’s a transparent jackass who already put it out there that he was on a quest to find out who ran Mudflats and acted consistently with his abrasive, rude character.
Someone else provided the information – a person who doesn’t want to be known and hasn’t owned it. That’s the person who REALLY has it out for AKM and some kind of agenda. And is much more stealthy than Doogan. I have to assume that that person knows AKM personally, has some kind of relationship, and is a complete sneak.
A last thought – what’s up with the imperial language of our Governor? Have you noticed her use of the ‘majestic plural’ (pluralis majestatis, the archaic tradition of kings and queens referring to themselves formally as “we”):
“It’s hypothetical to talk about action that would be taken on a bill that…hasn’t reached OUR desk yet” [Who else sits there? Does the administration share a desk?]
“WE were told then that they didn’t care” “…WE do want to speak with them…” [Who wants to speak with the legislature?]
“WE weren’t notified”, “WE haven’t considered”, “I will not request stimulus package funds…And that’s why WE’RE seeking more information…”
“Lawmakers have to do some ‘heavy lifting along with US,’ she said.” [Along with whom? Who's doing the "heavy lifting"?]
According to Brown and Gilman, it goes back to the fourth century AD, possibly because there were two emperors at that time (in Constantinople and Rome), but also mention that “plurality is a very old and ubiquitous metaphor for power”.
In the words of Queen Victoria – we are not amused.

Tune in to ABC tonight AT 11:35 EST to see the Pennsylvania affiliate’s
“sexting” case featured on Nightline. Vic Walczak and his client, a 15
year-old girl threatened child pornography charges for appearing
semi-nude in cell phone photos, were interviewed for the piece.
A very interesting case where the DA is trying the girls for having porn -one was posing in a bathing suit, another in her bra. Charged with kiddie pron. An interesting case, and for those with kids -teenagers especially, maybe a good conversation starter.
Clarification to prior post: Popped meaning indicted, in this case.

Hello…. a Message to AKM …. or someone to write a story.
The topic : the debate over the stimulus Money. GINO backed out over the debate… and said her staff could discuss it. (I think because she doesn’t know what she is refusing without someone on Her staff to tell her.) The Legislature fired back with their Press release.
Where is the debate now…?
Don’t they only have so many days left to discuss what to accept..?
Is she not under pressure to get something done quickly…. before the session is closed.
sounds like gino will get away with not accepting the stim package by having the session close.

Legislature in review, March 30
Legislature on a fast track with 20 days left. Blowup with Palin still possible over stimulus funds.
The 2009 legislative session is now moving on a fast track with about 20 days left before adjournment. The budget is the only required bill lawmakers must pass, and it appears that very few other bills of substance will be acted on.
There are still serious concerns, however, over the possibility of Gov. Sarah Palin’s rejection of some operating stimulus funds. The governor has expressed concerns about “strings” attached to the operating funds, or requirements for continued funding after federal funds are exhausted.
Hawker says Palin is wrong: no significant “strings” attached to federal funds.
Rep. Hawker said Monday that in hearings held with state agencies and the public Friday and Saturday that there are no “strings” to any of the money with the exception of a small amount of funds for state trooper recruitment and training. There are two cases where minor changes in state statutes are needed to accept the federal money, but these are not substantial issues, Hawker said.
The Legislature seems intent on accepting as much of the federal money as possible, or at least doing a technical “acceptance” with the option of turning some funds back. They must put actual spending into appropriation bills, however, and there is concern that the governor may veto some of the stimulus funds after the Legislature adjourns.
There appears the potential for a major confrontation between the governor and the Legislature over the stimulus funds, with some legislators arguing that Gov. Palin is just posturing to appeal to a national conservative audience.
@CG –
There was a commenter at Progressive AK that mentioned Brendan Kelley (sp?) as possibly the person who spilled the beans. Apparently he was crowing about it at the Press gathering.

I’ve checked many blogs and the ones that favor outing have as many as 3 reasons.
1: Privacy is for unpopular poorly written bloggers. As soon as you’re attracting lots of readers with good writing, you lose that right. They vaguely suggest that because some people might abuse the right, (Libel defamation) then you no longer can exercise it for yourself.
2: “Well- I’m a blogger and I use my name because Reasons 1,2,3,…
so others should follow my reasons…”
3: you can’t expect privacy because its unrealistic. Someone is going to find out eventually.
Each offer rationalizations for imposing a mandate on someone else’s rights.

As a Canadian I’m glad to hear this interview – you have lots of fans here too!
I believe that Phil over on Progressive Alaska has some thoughts on an ID but won’t reveal it. He’s hoping Doo gets prodded into doing himself, either voluntarily or otherwise.
Here’s why I’m writing to my government representatives about doogan:
Sen. Joe McCarthy (and friends) used the two-step technique that we’re seeing in the doogan incident. First agitate a segment of the population concerning some perfectly legal and moral activity, then start “outing” citizens to the stirred up mob. He got himself into the history books not because the technique was his invention, but because it took so long for some people to grab him by an available piece of anatomy (well sort of) and say “this stops NOW”.
I could wait until I hear a govt. official say “Are you now, or have you ever been an anonymous blogger?”. But I’d rather not.
It’s official…Rush hates New YorK…
Rush Limbaugh, in the midst of a tirade on Monday’s radio show against New York Governor David Paterson’s tax increases, denounced the state and announced that he was vacating it immediately.
Limbaugh, who claims that he pays per-diem city and state New York taxes, said that he would sell his New York condominium and visit the state as little as possible:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/30/rush-limbaugh-to-new-york_n_181005.html
@SMR–that is the right spelling of the Brendan Kelley who is the associate editor for the Anchorage Press. Please, not to be confused with the Brendan Kelly, former associate professor of marine biology at the University of Alaska’s Fairbanks and Southeast campuses and current program director for Arctic biology at the National Science Foundation, who is currently one of four finalists to be the new director the Museum of the North at UAF.
Idaho Governor’s strategy – Otter appointed a committee that included three former governors – two of them Democrats – to advise him on how to proceed. “…if the federal money is going to be spent, Idaho ought to get its share.”
“The GOP governors who declined some of the stimulus money have tended to focus on a relatively small piece of it – the $8.8 billion that would go to the states to expand unemployment insurance to cover jobless workers who often don’t qualify because they had part-time jobs or had a more sporadic employment history.
The governors fretted that they had to change state law to take this federal money and that once the stimulus program ran out, their own businesses would be on the hook to pay for the expanded coverage.
Otter got around that problem by making it clear he’d simply ask the Legislature to change the law back to the way it was once the federal money ran out. In short, he’s showing more confidence in his own Legislature – and his own leadership qualities – than some of his gubernatorial colleagues apparently are.”
http://blog.oregonlive.com/mapesonpolitics/2009/03/idaho_governor_quietly_taking.html
Good thinking. Do not get sucked into wierd foolishness that using stimulus funds results in more money being printed, thereby devaluing the dollar (South Carolina Gov Sanford); and that the noble act of returning the funds like it’s some fat wallet you found on the ground, will pull the US out of recession and fix the federal deficit.
Use the funds to help rescue the flagging economy in this entire country, help keep citizens employed, working, eating, and in their homes. Keep school lunches available for hungry children, SCHIP for underinsured families who need antibiotics for strep throat, and unemployment insurance for the nice people who never intended to be unemployed in the first place. Okay?
It isn’t the people who suffered loss from investment and 401K plans that are struggling. It’s the middle-class working families in debt up to their eyeballs to provide a nice life for children and trying to ‘keep up with the Jones’ a few years ago, that are feeling it. They’re (we’re) the ones losing their shirts, taking kids out of music lessons/sports programs because they can no longer afford it and a car payment as well, rethinking the need for orthodontics and college out of state. No longer able to have the kids on the employee health plan. Putting the RV up for sale, except that there isn’t anyone to buy it. Reducing standards of living.
We’ve all participated in “mortgaging our children’s future”, haven’t we? So, let’s just all move past those stupid sound-bites (‘digging a hole’, ‘creating debt for our children to pay’, yadda yadda), roll up our sleeves and set about staying afloat.
Wow. That Brenda is quite the looker. I hope Brian saunters by when she happens to be in the neighborhood and notices her. He could do a lot worse. I want to see some little Brian and Brenda jrs.

What I love about the new administration is the emphasis on “rule of law.” When everyone gets all hot and bothered, the key is to remember that we really are a nation of laws. It matters not how anybody rationalizes anything. I truly hope AKM’s situation goes through the courts, not so much to rake DooDoo over the coals and punish him, although heaven knows he deserves it, but to remind this entire nation–left, right or purple-polka dotted–about the sanctity of the constitution and the rule of law. Like it or not, it applies to gasbags like BillO and Rush (even those idiots at Westboro Baptist Church) just as much as to AKM, Rachel and whomever. This county is sorely in need of some basic civics lessons, and AKM v Doogan would be a great start.

George Jones the country singer got a DWI on his riding lawnmower. true.
A thought-provoking article on a topic that has not been adequately addressed by Alaska’s legislative body. Or at least not communicated. I haven’t heard any of them talk about it publicly, nor have we been advised on whether or not required certifications and acceptance deadlines have been met. Our legislators are acting on assumption that they can ‘get around’ the governor by means of a bill that allows for that.
But. It may be unconstitutional. South Carolina is dealing with it right now.
http://www.independentmail.com/news/2009/mar/29/stressed-over-stimulus-governor-should-reconsider-/
“Chairman of the state Board of Economic Advisors, said Thursday that the foremost issue today is not how the money is spent but whether the General Assembly seeking to overrule the governor to obtain it is a violation of the U.S. Constitution. “What needs to happen is that the state of South Carolina needs to go into the U.S. Supreme Court and find out if the legislature’s ability to bypass the state’s chief executive is unconstitutional. We need to decide that before any of the money is spent. After it is spent will be too late.” He poses the question: What if we take the $700 million, spend it and then find out we have to give it back, that the legislative override was unconstitutional?”

Rush Limbaugh, in the midst of a tirade on Monday’s radio show against New York Governor David Paterson’s tax increases, denounced the state and announced that he was vacating it immediately.

lol. A year or so ago, one of the residents of a small town south of mine got a DUI driving home from a local bar. His response, I think the next day or so, was to get drunk and then drive his riding lawnmower down the middle of the street and flip off the cops.

Seems like Gino is creating her own National Public Relations Campaign, using the nationally perceived state of Alaska statue and intrigue, as her baited hook to gain a political audience. She is spinning Alaskans beautiful allure, mystique, and grandeur into her divine national image……
Yet she is asleep at the wheel in Alaska, steering the state upon the rocks for her muse. We watchful few, observe this destruction with eyes wide open.
We have our political system sluggishly pondering a path into the future. Not sure how to deal with the Queen of political spin. How do we get control of the state again, a mutiny, recall, vote of no confidence, start impeachment, or just sit back and watch the show.
Some people in political power will just look the other way from the rocky shore dead ahead, and bide there time trying to stop those free thinking anonymous bloggers that are trying in vain to steer the ship off the rocky shore.
As noted above, Newt Gingrich has replaced Sarah Palin as the keynote speaker at their June fundraiser.
It has been widely reported that SarahPac accepted the invitaton but didn’t clear it with Palin, however I believe I have uncovered the true reason for the change in speakers:
The Republicans took a poll, and decided they preferred to have their whine AFTER dinner.

Oh crap, I’ve been banned from meaT haraS! Kind of pisses me off as I went there this weekend after the outing of ‘flats and had read much from conserv bloggers and websites about how much they “respect the first amendment” and they would “never censor anyone” regardless of what they had to say. Hmmm, guess it’s not so true. My comments were very mild and respectful, but they included things like, “don’t tell me what to do regarding procreation” and in regards to the TS people raising money for her legal defense I just had to say “perhaps let her fight her own battles for once”. I didn’t call other posters crazy or make any defamatory remarks towards SP. Guess I’ll have to go out and get a new “call name” if I’m going to share my opinions there. They sure can dish it out but they can’t take it, not even a little! BTW, I wasn’t AKPetMom there, I was Helen Sillbarner, a little old lady from Wasilla…..
It can’t STILL be bedtime in Alaska, can it?
New post, Please!
Besides that, the more $$ that goes to the jobless, the more $$ gets circulated through Alaska businesses. Lots of people work very hard at lots of part-time and temporary jobs to hold things afloat. And generally, most folks, even when they qualify, would prefer to go hungry than ask for any kind of welfare.

This story posted yesterday on HuffPo and I missed it. It is toooooo funny.
Here is just ONE juicy ‘ morsel ‘ from the story….the Right believes….
———————————————-
“The Huffington Post, Daily Kos and other left-leaning sites benefit from the right’s belief that there are rules and decorum in political debate and civic engagement. Of course, every now and then, a curious right-winger will go in and engage in discussion at a left-wing site, but rarely under purely disingenuous and mass coordinated means.”

@Uk Lady–What’s wrong with headless turkeys? GINO thinks watching them getting decapitated is fun!
UK Lady: I went over to look at the conversation. You are right about the turkeys. Somehow one dinner is the key to Gino’s future. They seem very concerned about the ethics violations, but how could accepting an invitation before the end of the legislative session result in an ethics violation? I suspect her remarks at the Lincoln dinner, especially about the praying, gave them cause to wonder if they really wanted her.
@ CG- Good posts
I wrote to Sheila Toomey at “The Alaskan Ear” regarding her publishing AKM’s name in her column. Her reply:
“Many years ago my newspaper published news stories based on anonymous souces. For a number of reasons we began to question this practice. We engaged in a lengthly and lively in-house debate on the question in the late 1980s and eventually concluded it was not a good practice. We no longer cite anonymous sources except in extraordinary circumstances, which we explain in detail to readers.
I believe people who publish anything — face or opinion — should have the courage to stand up for what they believe.”
———————————————————
As you can see, her argument defending her action is based on previous “lively in-house debate” at ADN and the subsequent conclusion that anonymity is “not a good practice.” Underlying her argument is the assumption that ADN can determine what is good practice not only for them but for everyone else, whether associated with the paper or not.
Secondly, she argues that anonymity is protected by the paper only under “extraordinary circumstances.” Again, the argument that ADN is the arbiter in defining “extraordinary circumstances” not only for their newspaper but for everyone else, even if not associated with the paper in any form.
Finally….Ms. Toomey “believes” people who publish anything…..” What Ms. Toomey “believes” sounds an awfully lot like Mr. Doogan’s “theory.” Beliefs and theories don’t trump the First Amendment right to anonymous free speech.
All of these arguments by ADN’s Toomey appear superficial and self-serving. AKMuckraker was not a “source” for the newspaper nor was she writing a “Letter to the Editor.” In fact, AKM was a private citizen exercising the right to anonymous free speech on a her own blog on the interent.
Are there any lawyers on Mudflats who would like to weigh in with your opinions on this reply by ADN’s Toomey? Doogan outed AKM but ADN in turn jumped on the bandwagon to widen the publicity and promote an unethical act.
AKM has put up a new open thread to unclog the tubes! and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new ‘oost’.

“…ADN in turn jumped on the bandwagon”…
Exactly. In my opinion, they are equally complicit in outing AKM, because in doing so, the number of individuals provided the opportunity to learn of AKM’s identity increased substantially.

Obviously Toomey thinks that Miikey should not be relying on an unnamed source, right? Oh, yeah. That it applies to everyone, not just the ADN thingy just couldn’t apply to a former ADN employee.

*snips the rest, though is a really good read*
Here I thought that it was a common practice for journalists to stand up for the right to protect ones sources? How many journalists and reports have gotten into legal trouble in the past, because they refused to out informants?
So suddenly, it is acceptable to take a persons name and scream it to the people who may wish her harm? You see there’s nothing wrong with a Private citizen discovering the name of another private citizen. There are legal ways of doing so, the wrong lays in the methods used this time.
The wrong comes from not only being outted in a email from a legislator to his constituents, but also being published in “The Alaskan Ear”. You have to seek permission to use a private citizens name, when it comes to situations like this.
You open yourself to ridicule, and ethics violations if you’re a politician.. An you lose credibility as a OP/ED writer or journalist. So far as I’ve read, AKM’s posts have been within the scope of ethically responsible. AKM’s researched, linked, and sited sources to relevant information based on what AKM see’s and experiences. That’s great, makes me trust this site.
Now the ear violates the spirit of journalism, to stick it to the upcoming trend in reporting. That makes me not wish to read what ever paper her articles are posted in.
As a journalist, or at least a Opinion writer, she has a moral responsibility to protect the rights of her fellow writers. Whether they be anonymous or not, that’s something I learned in high school working for a school paper. You protect your sources, and people respect you for having good conscience and a sense of honor.
Responsibility of speaking the truth, doesn’t require a full name..
@Lee323 and others commenting about The Ear/Sheila Toomey –
For a zillion years Sheila Toomey wrote The Ear ANONYMOUSLY. Some of it was snarky, poking at politicians, businessmen, local people, many of whom took themselves too seriously. I don’t think she was outed (or outed herself, can’t remember the story on that) until the mid 90s or maybe later. Some of the stuff that she wrote in her column was hurtful &/or hateful. Marriage breakdowns played out w/out names, job demotions, firings, divorces, affairs, you name it.
So she can take her hypocritical reply about anonymity, sources, etc., and shove it.
Brenda, Brenda, Brenda…I love seeing you!
AKM been thinking of you so much, and sending the best of good thoughts and feelings from my house to yours.

Question: how would DooDoo know if e-mails were from out of state? A yahoo.com address, for example, doesn’t indicate where the person lives. The ISPs don’t even give out personal information without a court order.

This is not some thing that I know (not computer savvy) but on some sites there is on the right side toward the bottom a box that shows where you just came from. Mine will say some like . LA CA just came from mudflats or what ever the last site that you were on. So now I do not clink links any more. I do not know if he has that kinda thing or not.
