Palin Selects Grussendorf. Sends Message to Dems.
Dear Senate Democrats,
Sarah Palin
Governor
That may as well have been the message, because Palin just gave the Senate Democrats a big fat raspberry, a Bronx Cheer, a nice wet pthththththhtht!
She has selected Tim Grussendorf as the person to replace the recently relocated to Washington D.C. Senator Kim Elton.
Normally, the Senate sends a list of 3 possible replacements to the governor, who chooses one. This time the Senators bucked tradition because one candidate shone so brightly above all others – Rep. Beth Kerttula. The candidate must be a Democrat who lives in Juneau, and Kerttula is smart, very qualified, and ready to step from her role in the house, to a new position in the senate without missing a beat. She is so beloved and respected, that hers was the only name submitted to the governor. This one is kind of a no-brainer, which means right off the bat, we know we’re in trouble.
Here’s the problem.
Kerttula has been an outspoken opponent of the governor for quite some time. And we all know how that works out for people.
So, the governor made an announcement saying she’d like to get applications from other qualified Alaskans who are interested in the appointment. It’s kind of like when the teacher asks a question, only one kid raises their hand, jumping up and down in their seat, and the teacher scans the room and says, “Anybody? Anybody else??” Obviously Kerttula wasn’t going to get the nod. At least not in the first round.
And so after interviews, Palin has made her selection. She has chosen Legislative aid Tim Grussendorf. I, like many of you, had no idea who Tim Grussendorf was. And let me start off by saying, he may be a stand up guy. *shrug* But we know this:
Until two weeks ago, he was a registered Republican. According to Grussendorf, he didn’t realize he was registered as a Republican and it was some kind of clerical error in 2006. I’m not entirely clear on how someone could have gone through the 2008 political season and not realize one was a registered Republican, but that’s the story. I guess the “R” on the voter registration card slipped under the radar. Perhaps he thought all those donation requests, and shiny 4-color postcards, and letters from the Republican party were just coincidence. We may never know.
Grussendorf describes himself as a “conservative Democrat” (which, I suppose, you’d have to be to not realize you were actually a Republican) who supports resource development and believes the mining industry isn’t always treated fairly. Palin noted his “advocacy for responsible development that will lead to jobs in Southeast Alaska.” (Here’s where you can join me in my flashback to the day the governor “took off her governor’s hat” at a press conference and said she would not be supporting the ballot initiative that would require large mines not to pollute salmon fisheries) Palin’s shadowy reasons for throwing Alaska’s fishing and subsistence interests under the bus are still a subject of intense speculation…
Grussendorf was talking to Democratic state senators on Sunday, trying to win their support.
“I know some of them want (Kerttula) to have the seat. But I threw my name in the hat knowing some of the history and I didn’t think the governor was going to select her. And if that was going to be the case I was looking at, well who else can step in there right now and get the job done,” Grussendorf said.
So, it’s clear that the governor’s pick has nothing to do with what the Senate Democrats want, has nothing to do with what Juneau Democrats want, and has everything to do with what the governor wants.
Now, if you’re one of the 5 or 6 Democrats in Alaska who generally agrees with what the governor wants, and doesn’t possibly believe her judgment could be off, no need to call your legislator. But if you’re of the mind that the purpose of filling this seat is to respect what those who will be working with this person want, and what this person’s constituents want, then you might consider making that opinion known to your Democratic Senators before they decide whether or not to approve this choice.

And the hits just keep coming, don’t they? Go Galt, Palin–NOW!
It will be really interesting to see how this plays out….
Grussendorf: “oops, my bad. No biggie. Hire me anyway. Wink wink.”
Does the appointee have to be approved by some legislative body? Can this poor choice be overturned?
So, if he makes it in….. he could 1/be a Sarah lapdog or 2/act like an actual democrat. If he does 1/ he’s toast when they elect again 2/is he pretending? Questions, questions………. What will the WAR nomination look like in Juneau, can’t wait to hear about that!
Sue, the Dems have to approve him. Hopefully they will fling that raspberry right back in GINO’s face, with a whole bucket of raspberries right behind it. Same goes for W.A.R.’s confirmation.
Did I hear you right…he was a Republican until two weeks ago????
You can’t make this stuff up!
Just how much harm can this woman do before she is shown that door – and it hits her butt on the way out.
p.s. AKM, I’m sure you’ve already thought of this, but in case you haven’t, the folks at Daily Kos will want to know about this. I don’t have an account with them but maybe another Mudpup does?
It’s my understanding that the Dem reps have to approve the selection. That’s why it’s so important for Alaskans to contact their dem reps and make sure they know how important this is. Wish I was one of them. Should be interesting…
I think Alaska needs to change its name to Youcan’tmakethisstuffupistan.
Btw and slightly OT, AKM, so glad to have you back in prime form!
Alaskans, don’t forget to use your POM. Now.
POM POM POM,
POM POM the leg.!
I wonder what deal he cut with Palin.
Didn’t realize he was a Republican ?!
Boy, he fits right in with GINO’s crew!
Totally clueless also!
Doesn’t this one qualify for “can’t make this stuff up?!
btw, welcome back!!
Somebody pinch me. I think I am having a nightmare. It is 2009, right?

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!
AKM- they sure keep you busy !! Who has time for anonymity!
Don’t blame Grussendorf, or Palin. Blame Kim Elton, who could have waited until his Senate term expired before dashing off to a lucrative but obscure beltway job. Then the voters could have replaced him.

Ok, first? No limericks about Grussendorf! I’m not THAT good!
And I think he will be struck down, as he needs to be voted on. I would hope the Dems aren’t going to take that bait.
And… there should be a rule somewhere that you need to be registered for your party for a specific period of time before you can say you are one. 2 weeks? Gimme a break.
I guess I’m a litle clueless also cause all this time I thought this was Brian’s blog!
Unfortunately, a lot of state legislatures are similar to Alaska’s. The only difference is that Alaska has a GINO who wants to be POTUS because she thinks the main qualification is being able to pray and chew gum at the same time. Wonder how many Dems will contact Doogan about this? Or is he out stalking someone else now? Oh BTW AKM, the outing by Doogan was the talk at work today – and several clients were so outraged that they were considering action – FROM FLORIDA. Should be interesting times ahead – hey, if Tiger Woods can birdie on the 18th and win Bay Hill, you’ll be just fine
OT FYI – Dawn Teo’s HuffPo article on Doogan’s outing of AKM made “Most Popular on HuffPo” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dawn-teo/famed-anonymous-anti-pali_b_180313.html) and my more modest piece on The Motley Moose is still getting pounded (http://www.motleymoose.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1199) and was greenlit on fark.com. Good work getting the word out, folks, I think it struck a nerve.
OnT – Palin is still a numpty. :~)
Seriously, this woman has cajones the size of the Goodyear blimp. I hope all you youcan’tmakethisstuffupistanites bombard your reps with a resounding SAY NO TO Grussendorf!
There was a little legislative aid named Tim
Who, from all appearances seemed to be quite dim
He ‘forgot’ he wasn’t a Democrat
Until Palin reminded him of this little fact
And now, for Senate, she has conveniently nominated him!
No way I was going to try to rhyme Grussendorf.
I have just alerted the tipline at Huffpo with this story, as I think it is outrageous, and they already know about Doogan.
I put ‘Alaskan skullduggery’ in the ‘about’ box, and said “OMG Palin crosses the shark with this one”, told them they had to read this, and then I put the link to this story.
Wish we had an Muckraker in every state……we’d be talking CHANGE.
THANK YOU AKM for bringing this to the full light!!!
I’m also thankful and glad you are back!
Alaskans — POM the Dem Senators.
Anyone — know where the requirement that he be a Dem for a year is located? It’s not in AK Const. and I could not find it in the statutes. It would be good for someone to locate that requirement and post on the forum or here so that when we Alaskans POM the dem legislators we can cite to it. Nothing like showing them the statutes or regulations that they swear to uphold!
I hope the Dems have spines of steel and hold the line, sending Grussendork back to the other side where he belongs. He’s changed teams since the “applications” were requested!? Puh-leez. I would have such a high blood pressure problem if I lived in Alaska… oh, I mean Youcantmakethisstuffupistan. And I’m saying this as a resident of DC!
She thinks that her appointment of Christen to the Supreme Court is enough placating to the Dems to get her both WAR and Grussendorf. I don’t think it’s going to happen for her.
Some putz named Recaldo Ochoa was on MSNBC touting his new book. Wait until you get a load of this:
http://issueswire.com/releases/2009/03/prweb2266114.htm
I can’t help but wonder what the hell goes thru the minds of GINOs handlers?
How much longer do they think the people of Ak will put up with the constant “insults to there intelligence”
Didn’t realize he was a R and now he’s been a D for two whole weeks?
wtf !?
Do they really think that the people are stupid enough to fall for that line of bs?!
Is this the best they got?
Reminds me of the video clip that used to be around about the successionist leader saying it’s ok to claim that you belong to whatever party it takes as long as it allows you to further our cause!
From where I’m sitting it appears to me that GINO and her buddies at caP araS, et.el. are a bunch of Frauds!!
Just saying!
Well folks Palin said it herself when pressed so long ago about her redecorating the Mayor’s office.
Until the courts tell her no she’ll keep doing things. Until someone who has any actual power acts like an adult and tells her no she’ll keep doing things like this…just because she thinks she can.
This is why she is such a dangerous person on a national scale, just like Bush and Cheney were. If she gets in a position of real power watch out because all bets will be off. Nobody will be able to keep up with her power grabs and that is why everyone needs to do everything possible to keep a lid on her and her chances of getting elected to anything ever again.
WOW! So this guy has been a Dem for all of 2 weeks! Just when I thought she couldn’t be more manipulative , she does this. I sure hope he is soundly rejected. This is just crazy. What is being said about this up there in Alaska media? Can’t wait to see how this plays out!
asiangrrlMN Says:

They said “Get a life, Kid”
Better yet, take a walk off the wharf!
Yee Ha!
lol pdx.
If he were once a Republican or a Democrat, or a Republican or ….. wait, wait I’m so confused ……. Anyway …..
Whenever his party registration was changed, he surely must have signed something to make that change, eh? and there must be a record of that? It’d be very interesting to know how many times he did that, and just exactly when. And then, what his actions were after that.
How stupid does he think AK citizens are anyway? Go all the way through the 2008 election without realizing what party you’re registered with? If we were truly to believe this happened (an incredible stretch), is that the kind of ‘representative’ (senator) anyone would want?
So Palin is saying Kertula for WAR, take it or leave it?
Well she waited till the last dang minute didn’t she, THAT should yank the legs chain! So did she just screw them? do they still have time to reject? I sure hope so. Do it without a blink! didn’t know he was registered a repub, year right, and he’s a legislative aid and didn’t know this little detail.
You gotta be kidding me, lol……the legs must be goin nuts over her antics!
she’s the governor from hell…….gov nazi
The scarry part of this is if he didn’t notice he was a registered Rep, why would anyone think him capable of conducting himself with handling any credible Democractic business on behalf of citizens. You’re registration is such a small detail that he omitted to notice, so therefore how could he ever see the ‘big picture’ It also comes to light that he ‘was’ a Rep, so when and why did he ‘change’? Gives you somewhat of an indication of what his base beliefs probably are.
Please understand that I am not implying that your political registration preference is a small detail — I’m making the point of his missing it. It’s not rocket science to notice it.
wasn’t there a deal that the appointment had to be a dem for a year?
well he wasn’t so adios amigo
Yee Haw pdx mb!
This just popped into view
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29961853/
Seems the POTUS believes in protecting the environment
Palin is manipulating the legislature by screwing with the State Senate’s business with her delays and messing with the appointment.
I think the democrats need to take a stand and simply vote down the appointment. Just vote it down.
There once was an aide named Grussendorf

Sabrina Says: That book…LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

OK, any appointment to fill Elton’s seat has to be approved by a simple majority of the Senate Ds (9 of them left, so it takes 5 to pass go and collect $200 per dium or actually less, since it’s the Juneau job).
Joe LaRocca Are you kidding? That’s another year and a half from now, at which point we would have lost a LOT of time when it would have been beneficial to have and Alaskan in that job. Do you honestly think the President was willing to wait that long to have Elton join the Administration.
Bear Woman I just commented on the on the Forum. It’s apparently a local Party requirement.
asiangrrlMN,
You started this!! Now I can’t get rhyming out of my brain!!!
Sec. 15.40.330. Qualification and confirmation of appointee.
(a) The appointee shall meet the qualifications of a member of the legislature as prescribed in Sec. 2, art. II of the state constitution, shall be a member of the same political party as that which nominated the predecessor in office, and shall be subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of the legislature who are members of the same political party which nominated the predecessor in office and of the same house as was the predecessor in office. If the predecessor in office was not nominated by a political party or if no other member of the predecessor’s political party is a member of the predecessor’s house of the legislature, the governor may appoint any qualified person. If the appointee is not a member of a political party, the appointment is not subject to confirmation. If the appointee is a member of a political party, the appointment is subject to confirmation as provided by this section for the confirmation of political party appointees.
Youcan’tmakethisstuffupistan–ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Oops, “an Alaskan” not “and Alaskan” and “Administration?”
If Grussendorf voted in the primary, he knew what party he was registered for, and if he didn’t vote in the primary, he’s not very involved. I think he’s no Democrat, and I really hope the Dems in the legislature do not approve of the governor’s choice.
I swear, everytime I see her latest stupid antics, I don’t quite know whether to roll my eyes and laugh at her, or cry for all of you in Alaska! Usually, I do a little of both.
btw, welcome home, AKM!

How convenient that he became a dem *after* the legislature gave their suggestion to Palin.
This reeks to high heaven.
I’m afraid the raspberry is for all Alaskans who obviously don’t understand that this repulsive grifter is laughing at them and any of their laws – certainly she holds nothing but herself in high esteem. Is there no pride in the state? Whether one agrees with the little Cheney-in-drag or not, one should not allow anyone at all to think themself above the laws that were so carefully drafted to discourage the grifters, parasites and abusers of the world.
May I assume there is already a grassroots movement to recall Grussendorf? I mean, really. He was registered Republican two weeks ago? Exactly how corrupt does the Palin administration have to be before something is done? If you can’t recall her, you can certainly block, recall or otherwise do something about Grussendorf. It’s more than a raspberry. It’s a slap in the face. It’s the highest form of disrespect.
Can the democrats simply refuse to confirm him? I mean, really. “A clerical error”? How stupid does Palin think everyone else is? I guess pretty stupid since I’m sure she considers herself smarter than everyone else. Come on Juneau democrats. Grow a pair and stand up to Palin and say “We do not accept this person to represent us.” Then do something. Anything.
And come on, Tim. You think no one else but you (besides Kerttula) can step in and get the job done? You’re a legislative aide. An AIDE. And anyone stupid enough not to realize they’ve been “mistakenly” registered as a Republican for two years doesn’t have the brains for this job. Really. No, really. (What? You didn’t notice Obama and Clinton’s names weren’t on your primary ballot? Really?)
Okay, segment is over, but I will post in the forum and here later when/ if the podcast is available.

Well, if she needs a push…..
Since the Repubs closed AK primaries, and poll workers check your voter registration and direct you to your ballot choices, I’m having a hard time believing he was clueless about his party affiliation. I’m having a harder time believing anyone either that clueless or that opportunistic and willing to play GINO’s game instead of respecting the choice of those to be represented should be in that position.
OT There are plenty of attorneys with less colorful, more respected reputations than WAR. Leave it to GINO not to pick one.
To AKM – There’s a reason I read your blog and pass on Doogan’s books. His inability to set aside his jealousy long enough to consider the consequences of his actions and show due respect for the first amendment indicate he should not be in office. Thank you for keeping up the great work despite his efforts.
Just when you think she can’t surprise you anymore . . . .
SayNO: they will probably plead that he WAS a dem for a year……now, what year was that?
the problem child……What did Shannyn have to say. Can you summarize? Thanks.
#18 about Kim Elton…… he stepped into a position with alot of influence. He knows the politics of Juneau and that the democrats there will sort this out. Juneau is VERY democratic in the downtown area. Beth will be in with the next election, in the meantime, not much time left in legislature. Sarah is spinning her wheels…… this is all grandiosity on her behalf and giving the middle finger to everyone who wanted Beth.
She doesn’t need most of Alaska anymore, she’s got much bigger sights…..
I’m counting the moments that Wasillabilly finds out what people really think about her when they go and vote again.
I think this is one of the most GINOrmous mistakes she’s made yet.
When our leg gets back from their break today (they had one, didn’t they?), they will have a load of s**t to clean up from that elephant!

Way to go, Canadian radio. It’s kind of sad that the first traditional media to broadcast this story is not American. Then again, I’ve always had an eye on moving up there.
I’m thinking maybe this pick is simply for the reason that she knows that they’ll have to vote on this guy and her Attorney General pick. She assumes that they won’t be so bold as to vote down two of her hand-picked selections in such a short span. That way she is still a winner if one of them gets voted down. I still hold hope that they will vote intelligently and vote against both of them. All I can say about Grussendorf is…If it walks like a Republican, and it talks like a Republican, it probably is a Republican.
The ash hole does it again; she throws Alaska under the bus.
AKM — Thrilled with Shannyn on CBC. There was about a 10 minute segment.
Thanks for the heads up on the interview. Wonder if Doogan will deign to talk with Shannyn.
(ADN) “He said that he changed his party registration from Democrat to undeclared in 2006, so he could vote in the closed Republican primary, which had contested races he wanted to participate in.”
okay any Alaskans want to delve into this for me?
2006 republican primary, contested races he wanted to participate in, which would those be?
Palin?

Saturday morning, to give those of us Mudflatters who live in/around Anchorage something else to do…
I posted a reminder about the Alaska Press Club “Journalism Week” doings at the Anchorage Senior Citizens Center.
Saturday at ~noon and thereafter, the topics were particularly interesting: the award to Anne Kilkenny, the Wasilla woman who wrote an e-mail about Sarah Palin last fall that went “viral” — some items in her talk Saturday were/are VERY TOPICAL, in light of what’s happened to AKM.
Then there was the “Open & Transparent Government: Fact or Fiction?” panel discussion on Saturday afternoon, with 3 persons’ comments available for you to read at http://www.alaskapressclub.blogspot.com/ — liveblogged by Maia Nolan.
Interesting stuff. But it could have gone so much farther if AKM had been there…

Isn’t it about time to this legislature called a special session to “BLAGO” this GINO?
The Senate democrats have the next move on the board. If Grussendorf is smart he will make sure he has the votes before he turns it into the devisive drama Palin would like to see it turn into. Divide and conquer, stir things up with a little chaos start blaming everyone else all over again, same old circle of madness.
Hi from AZ again. A question for all of you that actually live in AK. What IS the feeling towards nilap? It’s hard to get a feel for how a lot of people think and feel when you just read the blogs (and of course, I’m a lefty all the way).
It seems like it’s hard to really get if she is popular or if the majority of people are simply holding their noses…does she truly have strong opposition or is the state in lockdown?
Again, I’m stuck with Kamikaze Kyl and McInsane.

“Joe LaRocca Are you kidding? That’s another year and a half from now, at which point we would have lost a LOT of time when it would have been beneficial to have and Alaskan in that job. Do you honestly think the President was willing to wait that long to have Elton join the Administration.”
You’re defending Kim Elton for exactly the same behavior for which you castigated Palin: abandoning her Alaska constituency for national office. If you think Kim can do more for Alaska in Washington as a low-level bureaucrat than he can in Juneau as a state senator, why couldn’t Palin have done more for Alaska there in the second highest post in the land than in Juneau? Yet you and her other critics disparage her for presuming to leave Alaska and aspiring to national office. Isn’t there a wee bit of inconsistency there?
At the very least, Kim should have waited until the current session of the legislature adjourned, thus relieving the need to make an immediate replacement appointment in a pressure cooker environment. If I were one of his Juneau consstituents, I would feel spat upon.

Shannyn on CBC 1 – As It Happens, Central time, RIGHT NOW. 4:51 PST
This is one woman who is firmly planted in her own little world. Talk about alternative reality. Her world obviously never has had any consequences for anything she does. Her contempt for the people of her state is astounding.
Listening to the CBC interview with Shannyn Moore. So happy that CBC picked up on the story. Great job by CBC & Shannyn
Shannyn was exceptional.
I was very pleased with the quality of reporting as well. The questions ‘flowed’, i.e. the interviewer took an interest, ‘heard’ what Shannyn was saying and then asked follow up questions that were appropriate, based upon what Shannyn had just said (imho). Nothing gotcha about it!
Speaking from Anchorage here, a poll showed a drop of 5% statewide, according to Shannyn on Countdown last Friday…it is hard to tell; there are many who are dyedinthewoolproScarah……and some who were, now are not; what I recently heard about impeach/recall protocol is that it is so cumbersome/impossible it will probably be preferable to wait it out. Many roll their eyes and do what they/we can to influence others, legis, etc. and truly appreciate the nationwide/international support. Dems have seemed to be in minority for years, but my sense is that voting machines, once cleaned up, might tell us a different story. Many here are quite mavericky in an interesting way, quite entrepreneurial and progressive. People I know are impressed with honesty/reality and with the party of no, not so much… Also, too, we don’t like winking or oinking, raspberries or the underside of a bus.
I wonder why Grusendorf wanted to vote in the Rep. primary. Was there a Rep. candidate he liked and wanted to represent him or was he infiltrating to get the easiest opponent for the Dems? Why don’t reporters ask follow-up questions?
Either way, he’s been a Dem for less than 2 months. I wonder how your legislators will repond to GINO’s big, juicy raspberry. It will tell a lot about them……as will their response to the AG appointment and Doogan’s misdeeds.
drop in sp-popularity…

Proud of him and for him. The problem is Palin not accepting the Democrats’ pick, yet completely expected.
Palin has taken partisan politics to a brand new, unethical level. Not content with just favoring her own party, she has taken one of her party, changed his party affiliation, and tried to slip him in as a Democrat.
Remember Palin saying “All I learned about life, I learned from playing sports?”
Well, Sister….here’s your actions in terms that even you can understand:
Coach Palin takes one of the players from her bench and sneaks him into the opposing team’s jersey with the idea that now she has a player who can throw the game in her favor. Dirty sportsmanship, Coach. ( Pete Rose went to prison for trying to throw the game of baseball. Google it, gal.)
Dirty sportsmanship. Dirty politics. Americans can tolerate a lot in their politicians because they don’t have high expectations in the first place. One thing they don’t tolerate is dirty sportsmanship…and then lying about it.
(BTW….might be interesting to dig into this Goofydork’s background and see if he’s one of the adherents of the “witch doctor” Thomas Muthee’s “Seven Mountains” movement.)
Yo!….(New thread)
I must say, I find myself agreeing with Dan Fagan’s (holding nose) most recent post, opining that the Governor is now “officially” done with Alaska. I think she has her sights on Don Young’s seat, and is probably already using her cold, calculating seductiveness to negotiate his retirement and simultaneous endorsement. You don’t go around methodically alienating state lawmakers and their constituents unless you are already movin’ on up. She is a walking textbook description of a Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and the less governing she does, the better off we are.
Lee323 – Wouldn’t you love to see the box scores from her games ?? Bet she was a foulin’ machine.
Quelle surprise. Yet another RepoTaliban changing their party choice, but not party loyalty, you betcha. So they can fill a Democratic Party’s position only to revert.
Remember the County Clerk in Florida. Repug, changes to Dem and gets elected County Clerk juuuuuust long enough to get the illegal butterfly ballot used, and supported in court by Justless Scalia. Doesn’t run for relection, leaves office and changes back to Republican.
Surely, Surely the ledg has been insulted by Sarah enough to start to stand up to her??
@ austintx…
You said it!! All elbows, fingernails, and hitting from behind…
Only now she’s foulin’ the political waters of Alaska. That sulphur smell is not all from Mt. Redoubt!
I hope the Dems send a message by rejecting WAR as AG. Palin is insane. She has permanently regressed to the 7th grade and is unfit for office. Do we seriously have to wait to 2010 to get her OUT?
So, this guy didn’t realize he was registered as a republican after the election in Nov and did not care to change it to Democrat. That’s his story????
He does not have the smarts to represent Democrats or anybody else.
Stand together and tell palin NO, NO NO!!!
I don’t understand how this can be legal? Two weeks ago he was a repug?
I thought the leg sends her names to pick? Now she’s just picking anyone she wants.
I went to the US Committee of standards today, and although I don’t think it covers guvs it does cover leg. One of the issues is “nepotism” I bet this guy is a friend/church member of GINO.

I just don’t see how this can be the case! This treatment of Alaskans will come back to haunt her in her national bid. She’s crazy and stupid if she thinks her actions since the election are going to help her political future. She seems to be going down in flames and is more than willing to take anyone she can with her.
..so we’we suppose to believe that when Timmy G’ tells Palin this story, she sees a green light?
She didn’t give it a second through?
She didn’t blink?
She didn’t think that this could be viewed as disrespectful to the Dems?
COME on CRAZY woman…
The Dems in your legislature and your people need to stand up to her about this. Other than that: IMPEACH, IMPEACH, IMPEACH. The sooner she is out of power the better. Surely, there has got to be a way.
austintx::: I was just thinking about that…WONDERING what part of the Bible references the dinos? Maybe GINO can tell me…
Hey, you Alaskans elected this moron as Governor… now you have to pay the price. Maybe next time, you’ll screen your choices before you vote for them. I’m sorry, but you made this mess. Now we other Americans have to live with it. D.
I was prepared to hear she named someone awful, but this changing parties in midstream scam is actually shocking.
Tim Grussendorf thinks it is wise
to shed his Republican guise.
“I was registered wrong,”
he says, going along
with the governor’s most recent lies.
GrussenDORK and Bimbo Barbie belong together. He throws his name in the hat for state senate and doesn’t know what party he represents? She plays being governor and wants to be prez and is transparent between the ears. Dumb & Dumber. Geez – every day she does something even more stupid than the previous. And we’ve got 2 year to go with this dunce!!!
You can’t make this stuff up!
Basheert, I live in Phoenix, and like you, I am not a Palin fan. I was going mostly by my gut feelings and words from her own mouth during the election campaign, but then found Mudflats, Anonymous Bloggers and other Alaskan blogs. At first I couldn’t believe she was THIS twitterpated, but like somebody already said in comments, You just can’t make this stuff up. I am for giving our Alaskan brothers and sisters full support to bring this insane situation to a close. After all, if we don’t, she’ll be back driving us nuts again in the lower “48″
Because this state has been so red for so long, people sometimes switch to Undeclared to vote in the closed R primary. So OK, I’d let that go.
But somehow instead of going on the books as Undeclared, he got listed as an R somehow in the process of requesting an absentee ballot, according to ADN. A less enthusiastic “OK” this time… maybe, possibly, it was an error.
But he works as a legislative aide and didn’t notice the mis-affiliation for over two years? Um, that’s called not being able to vet yourself. Those of us who might have trusted him as an unknown thanks to dad’s party cred aren’t quite able to swallow all of this. He may be a good guy, and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on integrity here, just to be nice, but at the very least, it’s a procedural oops. A big one, on a political stage. And you don’t want a brand new senator making basic procedural oopses. Unless you’re on the other side of the aisle.
So, here’s the latest contribution to the Limericks du jour:
There once was a young man named Tim
Whose dad was a solid ol’ Dem,
But since Tim forgot
What party he ought
To belong to, then too bad for him.
I live in terror that Sarah Palin may somehow, someday, someway (sorry — I heard Westside Story is being revived) slither out of Alaska to infect other parts of the nation. I am keeping my faith in you, Alaska, to crush her insatiable ambition before, in the abyss of her meager intellect, she actually tries to get elected to a national office. Go Alaska!
Two weeks ago a Republican, now a Democrat, after confirmation, which had better not happen, two weeks later a Republican again. Boy that Sarah Palin is one evil genius. How great is it to be 44 in the sixth grade?……..
Did someone say lap dog already? Another fisherman that wants to open up ANWR and off shore drilling in Bristol bay. A person with clear convictions, just like GINO.
Anchorage – “Alaska Democratic Party Chair Patti Higgins today issued the following statement about Gov. Sarah Palin’s appointment of Tim Grussendorf to represent Juneau in Senate Seat B:..”
Complete statement from Alaska’s Democrats at: http://alaskademocrats.org
I wish HuffPo would pick of threads here, as the news in recent days has been spilling over. But they are turning into People magazine, more intent on delivering salacious celeb gossip over truly excellent political reporting here. What gives?
Welcome Back AKM! I love that line. Oh yes, we sure know how that goes.
Write enough letters Alaskans and the last 2 nominations get Rejected. They better be!
I heard Shannyn on the cbc. Well done both. The host called you the much loved AKM and you remained AK Muckraker. Nice touch. Shannyn was asked if she wanted to talk to Loogie, by all means…she was off to Juneau.
Excellent limerick North of the Range!!!!!!!!! I love it!
@duct Idaho — love yours too! I did commented before catching yours. Oops. Thanks for the entertainment. We can use all that we can get up her in Bible Spice Land.
Read Higgins statement.
Big yawn.
Grow a pair. I could do better. Then again, I’m not known for my tact. But then, I don’t plan to run for public office either and Palin can’t do anything to me.
Word is that he wanted to vote for Palin in the primary because she would be a weaker candidate against Tony Knowles in the General. WELL, we all see how well THAT worked out for us…
Joe LaRocca–well for starters, Kim Elton has a brain in his head and won’t, in ANY position he may hold in life, put the very existence and safety of our country at risk because of an inability to think. That’s the least of it. And as a long time Juneauite, I’m extremely proud of him for the move up; he’ll be able to help influence national policy on Alaskan issues in a department that actually affects Alaska a lot. So much less proud of people who aren’t willing to listen to the will of the locals…
I’m just worried that Shannyn may not have made it to Juneau if she was trying to fly here today. The 10 pm news said that most flights out of or in to Anchorage have been cancelled today (as well as most of the past 3 days). They were taking it hour by hour. I’ll look around for her tomorrow!

I’ve known Kim for 40 years, so I’m well aware of his quotients. He was once one of my students at the Juneau community college for a class on the legislative process and politics. Turns out that in the end he sadly leaned more towards politics than process. One could argue he used his position in Alaska public office for private gain by morphing it into a lucrative job in Washington. What are the ethics of that?
Kim wasn’t tapped by the Obama administration because of his intellect, but because he turned his public office into an attack machine in the Troopergate fiasco on its behalf. Now he’s a faceless beltway bureacrat with little or no influence on Alaska affairs, whose vital interests are diametrically opposed by the current administration in D.C.

To JR: I saw the article through HuffPo, and found Mudflats during the campaign through them and other sites…I am a New Yorker, and the eyes of America are on Alaska since Mrs. Palin danced onto the stage….Keep her there in the state please.
There aren’t a lot of possibilities here.
1. Grussendorf is too ignorant to notice the “undeclared” box is miles away from the “Republican” box on the voter registration form … in which case, we do NOT need another ignoramous writing laws.
2. Grussendorf IS Republican, thinks Republican and saunters with rightwingers like Palin …. in which case he is BLATANTLY LYING now, we do NOT need another blatant liar writing laws.
Either way, Grussendorf is NOT a good pick.
Palin strikes again.
The depth of her hypocrisy and grasping ambition knows no bounds.
Palin 2012? Be afraid, be very afraid.
Quote from ADN:
“…..But by choosing someone whose Democratic credentials are suspect, Palin is prolonging a partisan fight that is denying Juneau residents the representation they deserve in the state Senate.”
What a surprise. Palin puts her own agenda above serving the people. As usual.
Gosh, she makes Rahm Emanual look like a candy land marker! Palin is evil. She is two faced. She has standards of conduct and ethic for the people of AK, but none for her self, her family nor her high school buddies. Can’t you all impeach the tundra princess NOW? We don’t want to wait and lose another election because of the lonely men who think with little head and not big head.
I’m thinking about sending him a sympathy note now, he’s going to need it. He just got handed the biggest Stink Sandwich; I hope he and his family are tough enough to take the scrutiny that just landed on his doorstep.
Has anyone checked to see if Grussendorf voted in the 2008 primaries or in the presidential caucuses? If he did so, he damn sure knew what party he was registered with. If he didn’t, does that mean he didn’t care whether Metcalf or Begich, or Benson or Berkowitz won? He didn’t care if Obama or Clinton was the nominee for president? He didn’t care about airborne wolf hunting or a mine threatening the Bristol Bay fishery?
We’ve already had six Republican legislators and a chief of staff convicted for, among other things, deceit: Clark, Kott, Kohring, Anderson, Masek, Cowdery and Uncle Ted. Let’s not turn this Senate appointment into a Liar’s Contest.
Kerttula won her District 3 2008 primary with 84% of the vote. In the 2006 general election, she received 5708 votes. In the same district, Kim Elton, running for Senate seat B, received 4898 votes. In the governor’s race in 2006, Tony Knowles got 5155 votes, Palin only 1308 and Andy Halcro 678.
Obviously, Palin is looking for someone whom she feels can better represent the interests of Juneau constituents. Who would know how they feel better than she?
What is the difference between Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Gov. Sarah Palin?
Lipstick!
Everything you hear about her screams that Palin is not hitting on all cylinders, not even half of ‘em! The fact that she pulls horrendous stunt after horrendous stunt and never catches on that people remember this garbage is frightening. Dang but she’s a mess. Cunning and calculating but a mess none the less.
Let’s see what happens – if the Dems let him (gruesomedork) take the office, you’ll all have your answer as to how much authority Nailpinn has. The Alaska Democratic Party has issued a statement in opposition to her pick.
The Dem party has to stand up to her and say NO – a very firm NO.
Please Alaska…it’s up to you – rather than say “she’s yours you take care of her”, I’m inclined to say that the entire 48 needs YOU to keep her away from the rest of us.
Is there a viable candidate against her that we can financially back??? How can we help you so we all benefit from her political demise?
Oh and by the way, it look a lot to me like Nailpinns thinks all of Alaska is just dumb and she has the upper hand. Her arrogance knows NO bounds.
She said she was going to be transparent. This stunt is certainly that.
I’ve voted Democrat for years and remain progressive — but registered Republican last year to vote for a primary candidate that I admired. I can easily see how this guy lost track of it. The problem with our country is that people stick blindly to party allegiances instead of voting for the best person. Who cares what this guys voter registration is. The real question is will he represent his constituents interests.
I’m surprised she didn’t pick Joe Lie_berman. He can never remember which party he supports either. And Michael, I just can’t buy that “I lost track of which party I’m registered with.” This last campaign got so nasty at times, I just can’t believe ANYONE wouldn’t know what their registration is/was.
Great post Pancho.
Pancho — Keep in mind that as a registered Republican, you can still vote on the Democratic primary ticket. He might have voted all Democrat — except for one strategic Republican vote (possibly a weaker candidate positioned against Begich? aka Stevens?). As far as the presidential primary goes, Alaska had NO impact whatsoever on the Clinton/Obama question. He had nothing to lose by registering Republican — until now.
Me thinks it’s “ironical” that the MOST recommended comments on ADN, express more of a dim view of Palin, than what AKM writes on this blog!

Oh… I’m just bummed.
This stunt sure does not serve we Juneau folks at all well.
This is supposed to be about who can represent US . The only fail-safe we have until next election is the party ok of gov’s appointment …
and meantime the session clock is ticking down.
No mistake on checkboxes; Grussendorf wrote the word “Republican” on his absentee ballot in his own handwriting, on a line printed “Write Political Affiliation Choice Here”.
Bummer. Frankly, I’m disappointed. Oh well, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is…
http://www.juneauempire.com/stories/033109/loc_416719221.shtml
His stand on issues:
Abortion – pro-choice in 2002. “When I ran, that’s where I stood, and I’m still there,” he said.
I don’t quite get his response. It sounds confusing.
Kensington mine – for it. “That’s truly economic stimulus; that’s 300 to 500 good-paying jobs,” he said.
Natural gas pipeline – not sure. Grussendorf said he’s not sure it was a good idea. “I still have a lot of questions,” he said.
AGIA/TransCanada Corp. – has doubts. “It’s hard to move forward with something that doesn’t have the big companies involved with it,” he said.
Federal stimulus – worried about ‘growing government’ and “concerned about increasing the state’s budget deficit in future years”. “We cannot continue to burn through our savings at the rate that we’re seeing right now,” he said.
Obviously, he hasn’t done his homework on that one. Doesn’t get what the stimulus funding is, hasn’t thought about strategic options like the governor of Idaho, and hasn’t asked/listened to staff doing an incredible about of work to get the details and find out about “strings”.
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – drill, baby, drill. “Responsible development in ANWR, that’s the big one,” he said. “We’ve already got the infrastructure” to ship the oil, he said. “It’s definitely faster than a gas pipeline.”
