Citizens Against Dan Sullivan
The new group called “Citizens Against Dan Sullivan and Liquor Industry Influence” which seems to have the unfortunate acronym CADSLII, will be holding a press conference this morning at 11am.
The press conference will be at 645 G Street, across from McGinley’s Pub, of which Sullivan is part owner. The purpose is to publicize Dan Sullivan’s Ties to the Liquor Industry. I won’t be able to make it, but I’ll hope to have details later.
So far, this is the first group to appear to share my endorsement for mayor:
Anyone but Dan Sullivan.

Doogan will be first in line.
Unfortunately Sullivan could win on the first round– no run off.
Well, that endorsement was perfectly clear!!
Anyone but Dan Sullivan – doesn’t win a prize for acronyms but it’s got brevity on its side.
Polling shows Sullivan could very well win. Progressive candidates need to stop criticizing each other and go after Sullivan. Perhaps there has been some criticism of Sullivan but I haven’t heard it. Has there been anything? He’s going to just quietly sneak in. Next Tuesday.

Why have the dems diluted the d vote so much? Why don’t they do a straw poll amongst themselves instead of shooting themselves in the foot?
CADSLII if the “ii”s are hard — like cads lie?
@austintx
Doogan will be first in line:
Attending the press conference (is there an open bar?)
Outside of McGinley’s Pub (where everybody knows his name)
Not saying, just asking. Cheers!
We should be careful what we wish for. In the last governor’s race my mantra, like many, was “anyone but Frank.” We all know how that turned out. I too fear that the Democratic candidates have dangerously diluted themselves. Those that clearly aren’t going to make the cut should throw their support behind someone who can beat Sullivan.

Well, I’m kind of glad that I don’t have to be worried (directly) about the choices in that election. I do worry for you folks though. DS could be very bad news…

OT…checking in on G20 news, my heart is swelling with gratitude to AKM and all mudpuppies. Thank you! You had a significant role getting Obama to the White House. Can anyone imagine Sarah Palin at the G20? I imagine she could not imagine it herself… but trusts that, if she were there or in any other critical policy situation, God would tell her what to do and say…..no knowledge or preparation needed.

It would make sense for the dems to push forward the dem candidate with the most polling support and endorse the person don’t you think? I’m not familiar with all of them but goodness, to dilute the game and lose, is that worth it?

That would be like Jethro and Ellie Mae Clampett….meeting the Queen..
How embarrassing would that be for our country?
Hell she probably would want to fix up either Prince William or Harry with Bristol.

The Sarah Palins and Mike Doogans of the world better wake up…. intimidation is on the way out.
UK Lady…….awe that is so sweet!
“I think it is fair to say that the UK loves the Obamas.”
and yes Obama fans, we need to remember the election night, the positive affects that it had around the world. And what happened on Inauguration day. Like when in the past has that happened? Ever? We SO have the right person in office. Thank goodness. The multitudes are on our side and that should be sayin something. Please everyone, hold the good of the world up in your hopes and prayers. We can do this, keep up the good fight.
Keep the vision, look past the immediate problems to a future changed by all of us now.
I was reading that President Carter in 1979 had announced that by the year 2000 the US would get at least 20% of it’s energy from renewable sources and had directed funding into research and development into a tech and policy blueprint do so or surpass this goal by 2000.
Along comes President Reagan who abandoned the Carters goal, cutting the secretary of energy budget from $125 million to $25 million and fired half it’s staff. AND ordered the solar water heaters be ripped off the white House roof!!! And since then we’ve been playing footsy with the oil companies with absolutely no thought past this resource running out. Thanks Bush, who was in love with arctic drilling, now Palin is left holding the sacrificial oil platter, go for change Alaskans! Get a vision beyond oil and mining. Oil and mining is a temporary thing that will run out, lets let it go, don’t start anything new and move forward renewable energy before more damage is done. As far as I’m concerned the oil companies have had a long enough hay day.
GADS, are we not SO fortunate to finally have a chance to change this direction!!!
Madcitychick: I hear Palin wants a resignation from Begich, also too.

Sounds like the Dems need to have a Come-to-Flying-Spaghetti-Monster moment and decide WHICH one of them is going to carry the banner forward while the others bow out gracefully and get behind him.
Why do politicians have SUCH a hard time putting the good of the people before their own egos???
Wow, bullcr*p AK repub party! Is this for real or just for show? Like no way, lol.
“The Alaska Republican Party…believes that current Senator Mark Begich should resign his position to allow for a new, special election, so Alaskans may have the chance to vote for a senator without the improper influence of the corrupt Department of Justice,” the Alaska Republican Party’s Web site states.”
OT, but did anyone post this from ADN about Redoubt?
“…Concern for the Drift River oil terminal also continued. There are 6 million gallons of oil currently stored in the river’s floodplain, and four workers were on site Wednesday clearing up mud and debris, paving the way for larger crews to arrive, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Sara Francis said.
(snip)
A unified command consisting of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the Coast Guard and Cook Inlet Pipeline Co. that was established over the weekend to handle the response was still developing plans for getting a tanker to the terminal dock, about a mile offshore, to unload some of the oil, Francis said. ”

Thank you BigPete for the link. I loved the video of the school girls, Secret Service is going to have a heartattack. They are not use to the Pres. and First Lady being so normal. It is a grand thing to see.
Palin should be ashamed making a statement about Begich (sp) stepping down for a special election. I really don’t think she has any common sense and when to keep her dam mouth shut. All those asinine statements prove is that she is prejudiced and can’t be neutral. Fake a## hypocrite.

How can Begich be asked to stepped down? He was duly elected. If voters decided to give him the thumbs up instead of Stevens, well, that’s on them. Nobody twisted their arms to vote for Begich.
Stevens should not have demanded the trial be rushed.
In any case, the DoJ is dropping the case due to prosecutorial misconduct, not because God came down the mountain and pronounced Stevens innocent.

I am SO proud of my President and First Family! Their love, kindness, and humility is seen in every circumstance they encounter at G-20.
Speaking of corruption, Blago has just been indicted on 19 counts.
I looked at Gov Palin’s last press release re Ted Stevens. It says nothing about her asking Begich to step down or even thinking Begich should step down. I read the Fairbanks Newsminer today and it says that in an email sent to the paper that Gov Palin agrees w/ state GOP and Begich should step down.
So I’m confused. I call the gov’s office, press staff and ask for clarification. I’m told that her statement to the newsminer is “political” and has nothing to do with state government. I tell her that now I’m very confused and she tells me to call “Meg”. I said “are you telling me to call Meg Stapleton?” She said “yes”. Huh??? You just can’t make this stuff up.
@MzzR – Could Palin be next?
FOR THE RECORD: I have been reading Mudflats blog since September 2008, and today (4/2/09) is the first time I heard that AKM is somehow associated with Alaskans for Truth. Just so ya’ know!
Maybe the Repubs can use a little more of that ‘magical thinking’ to get Begich to step down. They’re going to need it.
snowbound: Before you call Meg, be sure to bring a staple remover.
The ADN article said that the statement about nilaP supporting the GOPs call for Begich to step down came from geM at CAPharaS:
Gov. Sarah nilaP concurs with Ruedrich and believes a special election is appropriate, said a spokeswoman for nilaP’s political action committee, geM notlepatS. “I absolutely agree,” nilaP said in a statement.

What is your point, AKM was anonymous at the time. Would you rather she be associated with Alaskans for Lies? I don’t understand what the problem is!!
Begich was elected fair and square. The Stevens prosecutors may have messed up, but it’s pretty clear to all, so did Stevens. Not a legal conviction, maybe. But the information sure came out enough for Alaskans to determine their choice. The only thing that Stevens is going to get out of this deal is to keep his right to vote.
Now about that looming deadline tomorrow, Friday, for stimulus funds. White House says $$ will not come to states whose governors object. Leftover $$ will go to other states.
Alaska??? Guv??? Alaskans??? Legislators??? Things must be absolutely snarly in Juneau at the moment.
Democrats cannot endorse one Democratic candidate over another prior to primarily, without a suspension of the rules, rarely invoked. They did so in the case of Begich’s run for Senate last year, however. So now???
Sue I may have misunderstood you. If so sorry.

Simple. They hired a bunch of Rethug hacks.
Republican whining.
We should keep in mind that the Republican Party, and it’s base, expects it’s politicians to “play dirty”.
Recently, David Boies (the Democrat attorney during the Gore/Bush fiasco) was on the Maddow Show, and recalled how the Florida recount, which was already under way, was stopped by the Republican members of the SCOTUS.
So Gore-who won the popular vote-conceded for the ‘sake of the Country’.
However, in Minnesota the Republicans have had their Senate race recount, and having lost, are now threatening to appeal. For ever.
And there is no surprise, because no one expects anything but the worst from the Party of Karl Rove.

@Irish Girl…..I read a blog post from one of the links here, and it implied that because AKM’s husband is treasurer of AFT, that she had somehow managed to use her anonymity to funnel funds to AFT. I was just letting that blogger (who also chose to remain anonymous) know that his allegation was untrue. : )

So is Ted taking back his testimony under oath that he took those gifts even though “he didn’t want them”? Poor Ted… the gas grill was not the one he wanted so he shouldn’t have to claim it as a gift. He didn’t want the furniture, or the fancy chair etc. So he shouldn’t have to claim them. He didn’t ask anyone to remove them from his house and take them to the dump.
He didn’t get the receipts for the remodel… so???? He still received and benefited from gifts of great value. Read his own testimony. This is a misuse of justice to see him walk away from 7 felony counts after his own testimony convicted him. OHHH Is he going to pay taxes on these gifts now???? Maybe the IRS will get him based on his own testimony. Tax Evasion. That’s how they got Capone.

Ted Stevens was not acquited, the prosecutors(under the Bush admin.) were found guilty of misconduct. The people of Ak. voted for Begich. Lets not have another Bush/Gore situation. Palin and other repub. are desperate to get rid of any one they cannot control. We need every rational mind to fight back against the insanity of the Palin admin. Look at her A.G. appointment if you have any doubt that she is out of control. Could he be any less suitable to represent all Alaskans? He has been a central proponent of Nat. rights. Rural Ak. are presently struggling to survive. As some one who has devoted his life to dismantling federal agreements with Nat. Ak. he could not be more inappropriate as A.G. Palin does not care about Ak. Push back!
