Democrats Reject Palin’s Senate Pick.

spine1

It’s tall.  It’s straight.  It’s full of Calcium. And it’s owned by Democrats!  Breathe deep and savor the moment.  Ahhhhhhhhh.

Joe Nelson, Palin’s second controversial pick to replace Senator Kim Elton who has taken a position in the Obama administration was rejected today.  Both Palin picks have been candidates who were not on the list created by the Democrats.  Generally, the governor will choose from a list of candidates that the applicable party feels would be the best choice for the seat.  But the petulant governor decided she knew best what was good for Juneau residents.

In 2006, when Vic Kohring left the state house to serve time in prison, a list of qualified candidates was compiled by Republicans and submitted to the governor.  She chose from the list Wes Keller to fill the seat.  But the battle of wills that has ensued over the replacement of Elton (D) now leaves the ball in Palin’s court yet again.

With the rejection of Nelson, the message sent by Democrats to the governor’s office is clear.  They will not accept a candidate from “outside” the normal channels.  It’s a point of principle. And it’s a very good thing.  There are reasons that parties choose their own replacements, and any Republican in the Legislature with an ounce of sense is applauding as loudly as Democratic voters about this turn of events.  OK, they’re probably not dancing in the halls of Juneau, but I like to think they’re dancing in the halls of their own minds.

Despite the fact that it took the governor 28 days to make her first pick to fill the seat, with someone who until 2 weeks before had been a registered Republican, the governor has released a statement saying that she “laments” the fact that the Democrats were taking so long to appoint a Senator.

sad-violin1Oh, dear.  If those Democrats would only DO something about this.  According to the governor, they just don’t care about Juneau.

I humbly offer, once again, to solve the governor’s terrible problem, and save her from further “lamenting”.

Ready?

Taa-daaa!

beth-kerttula

Rep. Beth Kerttula....the Dem's first choice.

Now wasn’t that easy?

Swanson makes me smile. Pawlenty, not so much. But really, McCain would not be abhorred as much today, if he had picked Pawlenty.
Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT a Pawlenty fan, but really; Palin or Pawlenty?
Now, if we could just get our Senator seated!

I went to wonkette and howled over the comments about the Nestle chocolate milk note on the fridge. I haven’t laughed that much in 20 years. It’s taken about 10 min to get the tears to stop streaming.

Careful… Wonkette is addictive, Much like Mudflats, only raunchy.
I read stuff at Wonkette and lo and behold, AKM has commented on it, but without the trucknutz or b***s**, or really nasty (but fun) snark.
Have to say though, Wonkette, while fun, gets old. I check it daily to make sure I am not missing anything while I check out the latest (and sometimes they pick up on things the MSM, or other blogs miss.) If I read it to long, I start getting “snarky” in my responses to people. Beware! ;)

Palin’s attorney general pick under fire
Wayne Anthony Ross’ confirmation hearings contentious at times

A letter former Public Safety Commissioner Richard Burton’s daughter, Leah Burton, wrote to lawmakers turned into one of the most contentious points.

She says in 1991 she heard a group of men talking, including Ross, saying domestic violence “wouldn’t be an issue if women would learn to keep their mouth shut.”

Then Rep. Carl Gatto,R-Palmer, asked about this part of Burton’s letter, “Do you recall ever making a statement it’s OK for a man to rape his wife?”

“Anybody said that to me then we’d have a little confrontation. Because that’s a bunch of crap,” Ross replied.

Denying the accusation Ross put his domestic violence position on the record.

“Among the most serious crimes,” Ross said. “Sexual abuse is also serious but sometimes it’s a result of cultural differences.”

Ross’ sexual assault view continues to be a domestic violence community concern. Another concerning letter for Rep. Lindsey Holmes, D-Anchorage, is where Ross called homosexuals “immoral degenerates.”

Holmes asked Ross if his words indicate how he would treat a gay attorney applying for a Department of Law job, or how he would view cases involving homosexuality.

Ross said his personal opinions have nothing to do with the job.

“Let me give you an analogy,” Ross said. “I hate lima beans. I’ve never liked lima beans. But if I was hired to represented the United Vegetable growers would you ask me if I liked lima beans. No. If I disliked lima beans. No. Because my jobs to represent the united vegetable growers.”
I can’t believe how he evades the questions!!!!!!
He always falls back on: “I’ve only had this job for 8 days” or launches into a long diatribe about how long he’s been married or how he supports the 2nd amendment”
    Ugh!! GET RID of HIM!!!!

The latest story on Huffpo about Palin speaking to the Press tonight about Levi..?

I would say 99.9% of higher are TOTALLY roasting her on the fire. The standard comments go something like ‘Levi seems to be believable’ and why would he lie. The other half say she has lost ALL her credibility since she is using The Office of Gov. to go after Him. It’s just disrespectful and in bad taste… bad politics.
(She has NO CRED at this point)

I liked this comment as well.

I like Sarah a lot… sue me… but you’re right. This just isn’t the kind of thing she should be addressing at all.

Even ‘ some ‘ of her Fans think she has gone way overboard.
Sssshhh.. I hope she is not listening . Like she follows advice from anybody.

I was browsing the other AK blogs as well.
‘Bent Alaska’ has a list of some very well thought out reasons why he should not be vetted. Lists how poorly he has rated by the bar as well as other things. It’s a good list and suggests to their members that they use these points as reasons for him to be denied.

Wayne Anthony Ross: "It was provocative, she looked very good in them, didn't she?"]

Pretty clear what HE thinks about ethics violations huh? Keep talking Ross, you’re bound to sink yourself. Down on knees, praying hard for that!!

Eeeeewwwwyoooooo! Creepy! Did he really say that? Right there shows how much he ‘reprects’ women – all they are to him are sex objects/bearers of his children. Completely inappropriate to say that about a sitting Governor in Public Testimony for a job with the State Government!

I’m thrilled to see that spine! Hope y’all are sending your Senate Dems. a little love this morning.

Speaking of Senators and Representatives, I didn’t get my e-mail out to them yet re: AG [p]ICK. Too late, yes/no? I’m from Florida, but I can write a nice, repestful, intelligent, hopefully not to lenghthy one. My main angle would be how bad it would look for the political careers of all those who vote “yea”, when (not if) the guy does something politically embarrassing.

Something along the lines of “People won’t remember you voted “Nay” to Mr. Ross next time they’re at the polls, but they will remember if you voted “yea” and he turns out to be, as is demonstrated from his own public testimony and past writings, a poor, possibly dangerous choice for Attorney General”.

Oops. Went OT again. Sorry. Last time today, I promise.

(You’ll be seeing a lot more of me here now – one of my part-time jobs is over and I have lots more time to sit in my jammies and post comments on blogs!)

On July 15, 2007 the GOP, from seven applicants, gave Sarah a list of three people to fill the Vic Kohring position after he resigned (so he could go to jail). Three days later, July 18, 2007, Sarah picked one of those three GOP finalists, Wes Keller to fill the position. Oh those were oh so simpler times….

  21. 121
    ValleyIndependent Says:

Yep. She picked Wes Keller with the Republicans using the same process the Democrats used to pick Kerttula and the other three. If Juneau doesn’t get one off their list, I want Keller out. He wasn’t on mine.

  22. 122
    ValleyIndependent Says:

Ever notice how GINO takes no responsibility for anything? The McCain campaign loss had nothing to do with her, she didn’t have anything to do with Todd’s actions during Troopergate, the MSM is so mean and biased – never mind the fact she keeps giving them so much material to work with, likewise with those pesky people filing ethics complaints, it’s the Democrats’ fault she took so long to find a Republican who was willing to say he really meant to be a Democrat, and now I suppose it’s their fault for not putting her second choice on their second list.

Why did Senator Kookesh sabotage fellow Sealaska Director Joe Nelson’s shot at a Senate seat?

    Could Al be that petty?

After stacking the Sealaska board with disgusting Rep. Bill Thomas just a few weeks earlier there is a stench around Senator Kookesh and to think he represents Alaska Federation of Natives.

Senator Kookesh you have betrayed every Native Alaskan, Sealaska shareholder and constituent, it is time for you to go.
