Andrew Halcro Leaves the Blogosphere…[sniff]
In a post entitled “The End is Near,” one of Alaska’s most insightful and intelligent bloggers announces he is throwing in the towel. Nobody believes for a second that he’ll be hanging out in his robe, eating bon bons and drinking grey goose martinis. He’s got plans, and will hopefully announce sooner than later what they are. In the meantime, speculation continues.
Rep. Les Gara on Foster Care
I’ve gotten lots of emails asking about the status of the Foster Care reform that Rep. Les Gara has been spearheading. Here’s his take on how it went this session. Thanks to all those legislators who support these efforts, and work hard to do good.
Forty-percent of our youth end up homeless when they come out of foster care. That’s unacceptable. Our reform effort, which Sen. Bettye Davis is pushing in a parallel Senate bill, made progress this year through the committee process, and Republican John Coghill gave an inspirational speech the last day of session calling for efforts like this to pass next year. There is good news on this front, but the good news is that of progress in the battle, and not victory yet. We did secure funds to increase advertising for foster parents – something we have a major shortage of in Alaska . And this office is pushing a number of volunteer efforts. We also succeeded in a quiet effort this year to help continuing some important private grant funding for Alaska ’s foster youth and alumni. The funds support statewide foster youth and alumni peer support and advocacy.
Levi and the Johnston Clan are Back Again
Pop the corn, and pull the TV close. This time Levi, Mercede and Sherry will be on Larry King Live Wednesday. Whatever happens, it’s bound to be the buzz around town again.
It Ain’t Over Yet
How many cars are there on the Corrupt Bastards train? We’re still not sure, but we do know that there are more to come. Todays ADN politics blog tells us what we already know, but what we love to hear anyway. Bring ‘em on!
Emmet Sullivan, the U.S. District Court judge who presided over the failed prosecution of Sen. Ted Stevens and who is now pressing ahead on the contempt investigation of the Stevens prosecution team, ordered that any material turned over to the independent prosecutor he appointed be kept secret.
In an order signed at 6:50 p.m. EDT, Sullivan found that “ongoing investigations” could be impeded by disclosure of “certain investigative files, documents, e-mails, grand jury transcripts, interview notes, interview memoranda and other information.”
Despite the fact that Stevens cannot face the seven felonies that were dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct, he could still be tried for new and different offenses. The justice department and the even more dreaded IRS are still investigating, and the names of not only Stevens the Elder, but Stevens the Lesser (Ben) and Congressman Don Young are never far from our minds.

I predict that Brian and Brenda have decided to quit co-habitating and have chosen to announce a Spring wedding. We are all invited, but must all wear yellow boots. They are slotted to appear on Larry King next week for a ‘tell all’ on Alaska politics. Their wedding will be broadcast live during an Oprah Winfrey show in early June. They are registered at Alaska Mill and Feed for those of you seeking the appropriate gifts.

Definition – Springtime in Alaska
The days are getting longer, we’re getting up earlier and going to bed later. There’s more mania in town, the first motorcycle accident of the year has occurred. The moose will be eating our garden again. The tourists will be descending upon Alaska yet again.

Had an interesting conversation this morning regarding Gino and her ilk. While I was attempting to look like I knew what I was doing during pilates, out of the blue, this young lady comments on what her dad told her regarding the baby story. Her father travels around the State dealing with school administration issues. She said around two years ago he had mentioned that Bristol Palin was pregnant and commented on how it was all being kept hush, hush…..when everyone knew she was pregnant. This would be with baby Trig.
Tonight may be an interesting interview with Levi. I wish him and his family safety, and good will. Obviously, his back is up against the wall, and there’s a reason he is coming forward.

Oh yes, this will be called another attack on the Governor because people are jealous of her, are afraid of her popularity, are just trying to make her go broke defending herself against all this nonsense that others don’t have to put up with. It will be noted that she didn’t leave the state for very long and they will ask if she is expected to do everything herself since the legislature can’t seem to do anything at all.
Get ready for it.

YA know, Palin, brought this on herself. If she had left the kid out of her personal agenda. If she had not exploited him on dozens of accounts with People Magazine, Fox News, the official governors website…heck if she let the kid visit with his son once in awhile without her petty, vindictive, spiteful, venom, he would never have to try to reach a national audience to force her to do what is right.

PRESS RELEASE: APRIL 22, 2009:
An ethics complaint against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be filed this afternoon asserting that Palin’s involvement with SarahPAC constitutes “outside employment” and “misuse of official position.”
Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.” Sondra believes that the tipping point for her was Sarah Palin’s most recent abdication of her role as Governor and apparent conflict-of-interest when she spoke at two outside events in Indiana rather than work with the Alaska Legislature during the most critical time, the end of the session.
The complaint alleges:
a) Governor Palin has entered into a contract outside of her official duties with the donors, employees, partners and any or all other participants involved in Sarah PAC.
b) The recent partisan trip to Indiana by the Governor was purely to benefit personal interests, had no benefit for the State of Alaska and was in direct conflict with her official duties.
c) The Governor left the State to participate in these events during the most critical end-of-session Legislative activities, at a time where the legislators themselves are not permitted to leave

I think Palin is more upset about Levi’s interview than almost anything else. She’s writing that preemptive strike, you just know it. Wonder if it will come out again BEFORE Levi’s interview or if she’ll actually wait this time to LIE like a rug til it’s over.

That’s what everyone said about the Arctic Cat clothing complaint, and that one has tipped SP over the edge and made her look like a complete moron since she insists on purposefully misunderstanding the complaint. Snicker. Snicker.
The collective WE just need to keep up the pressure – I’m afraid it doesn’t matter what the pressure is (as long as it’s legal) but it puts her in the corner w/ a snarled lip. Then she can’t shut up about it, which makes it all worse for her.
I think we should ask the Gov’s office, or Dept of Law, for a summary and tally of the 12 complaints and where they stand. Details won’t happen, but each complaint and it’s resolution (finis or open) should be public record. Let’s get that list out there! Remember, she filed one on herself and has conveniently forgotten that one.

That’s ALL….that lame complaint? I was hoping for so much more. That complaint is more than a wet noodle—it’s preposterous and makes those opposed to Palin look ridiculous. To begin with, most all politicans have political action committees (PAC’s)….Young has one, Murkowski does, and former governors Knowles and Murkowski had them. The FEC does have specific rules on how the money can be spent, but it’s clearly not unethical. I checked and over half of the governors in the US have PAC’s. That’s how they raise money. Secondly, as I read it, the complaint is that Palin left the state for personal reasons. Huh? So if she went on vacation to Hawai, that’d be unethical? Makes no sense. Finally, is there some law here that legislators and the governor cannot leave AK during the last few days of the session, cause I couldn’t find one. Sheesh…..give us something better, PLEASE!

Even though I live in New York State and have absolutely nothing to do with Alaska, I cannot wait to see SP dangling by a thread when all the lies she told about Trig and his birth are finally revealed.

Of course, my big mistake in discussing bear tracks was that I reversed the hind and front feet. It’s the hind foot that might be taken for Sasquatch, not the front one. The front pad (not including digits) looks like the head of a heavy-weight golf iron, the rear foot pad looks almost human, or ape-like and is distinctly different fron the front.
So the upper right corner of the phota shows a fainter and longer right hind print with a shorter and deeper right front print right behind it in the classic black bear pattern. “Claw marks do not always show.” See the fun web site below-awsome pictures and casts of bear prints.

Sorry folks for reposting a lost message, (last of bear track photo post) but I wanted to share the bear-tracker website from California. It is such a gem- it even has a link to audio of a black bear roar! Roaring bears on mudflats, maybe bloggers are the mice that roared after all.
