Sondra Tompkins on KUDO 1080am With CC. (Live blogging)

22 04 2009

So, if you’re catching Wayne Anthony Ross with Eddie Burke at 4 (see last post), here’s a good setup for political whiplash!

Cutting Edge host CC will speak with Sondra Tompkins about her ethics complaint against Governor Sarah Palin at 5pm Alaska time, (6pm Pacific, 9pm Eastern).

Stream it live HERE.

Call 907-569-1080

*******************************

Tompkins says Palin should be focused on the job at hand.  A lot of what she’s done lately could be construed as mmonlighting.

Some compare what she’s done with other governors.  Tony Knowles, for instance, was gone more during the session.  Tompkins says none of their travels occurred at the end of a session and back then the session was 120 days long.  Now i’ts only 90 days so time is more critical.  Also indicated there’s a difference between state related trips and non-state related trips.

CC notes that Tompkins has a special needs child, and that Palin had attended the SMILE breakfast for special needs kids.  Tompkins responded that she’d like to be paid a state salary to go advocate for special needs children.  Advocacy is good, but what can you do at home with our own children with challenges?  She is not supportive of stimiuls money for special needs children.

Thinks that she is conflicted as to where her loyalties lie – with state of Alaska, or her far right conservative base and SarahPAC?

According to her spokesman, she is governor 24/7 so therefore she is excluded from personnel laws.  Unless she relinquishes governorship to the Lt. Governor, which she did not do.  She didn’t relinquish duties on campaign trail, or while she traveled to Indiana. Therefore the  PAC is conflict of interest.

The question is that the PAC is reimbursing her for the trip.  She cannot take a “36 hour vacation” barring her from partisan activities on state time.

CC says she appreciates that this was brought to light.

Linda Kellen Biegel (Celtic Diva) calls in – Welcomes her to the “ankle biter” club.  Conservative sites are referring to her in the same terms as Andree McLeos and Linda. (Why doesn’t anyone ever complain about those other complaint filers?)

Tompkins mentions that Palin benefits from the trip, but Alaska does not.

CC notes that she was not present when the vote came against Wayne Anthony Ross.  Tompkins reminds us that Walt Monegan was fired when Palin was gone.  She prefers not to be around.

Trip was made at the behest of SarahPAC.  Governor’s office looked forward to the enticements and bribes for attending. (Chocolates, donuts and a hockey stick)  Probably not a good idea to use the word “bribe”.  Palin said all it took was the chocolates.  Maybe we can buy her chocolates to keep her here doing work for the state!

Caller says if she’s so adamant about right to life issues, why isn’t she promoting it here in the state?  Why go outside?  (It was the donuts)

By blaming bloggers for Ross’ rejection, she’s attempting to quiet dissention.  There’s a large number of bloggers in Alaska.  She doesn’t want to hear from constituents.

She’s never been attentive to the legislative session.  Her attentions have always been elsewhere.

Process – File complaint with the Department of Law.  Someone looks at it and decides if it goes to the personnel board.  That’s basically like asking the personnel board if they want to investigate their boss.  Process is essentially corrupt.  We can’t let it stop us, but it will take a lot of voices to make changes.

Caller – How did you decide to do this?

Why would we call ourselves a democracy if we live in fear of our elected officials.  We can’t stay quiet.  I choose not to live in fear.  I can’t be concerned or worried about what Governor Palin might say about me.  This is not about me, this is about the governor’s actions.

Is she under some sort of contractual relationship with SarahPAC and donors?  There is some kind of contract going on.  If you consider the definition of a contract, the PAC makes an offer (reads from the complaint).  People are giving money for this purpose.  It’s obligating Palin to solve America’s problem, and support America’s family.  For the governor, the number one priority should be Alaska and Alaskan families.

Tompkins thinks she is not brave.  She’s just doing her duty as a constituent.  Governor asked to be held accountable.  She’s gotten to the point where she wants to tell the governor that she needs to hold herself accountable.

None of us are perfect.  We’re all going to make mistakes.  We need to own our mistakes.

(Lots of supportive “thank you” calls coming in.)

It’s unfortunate that we have to do this.  If she would abide by the Executive Branch Ethics Act, none of this would be necessary.

Phil Munger (Progressive Alaska Blog) calls in:  Probably formed SarahPAC because she had to pay the state back for the family travel that violated the Ethics Act.  The nature of the Palin machine and her supporters is to attack women rather rudely.  Almost all the people who are attacked the most brutally – Linda, Paige, AKM, Leah Burton are all women.  Phil has never been attacked, and you never hear anything about Zane Henning or Frank Gwartney who also filed ethics complaints.

After Tompkins receives confirmation from the Dept. of Law that the complaint was received, she will abide by the rule not talk about it publicly.

“She clearly has a different definition of accountability than the rest of us.”

Leah Burton calling in.  (she gave public testimony at the Ross confirmation) The fact that SP cannot come out and specifically say who she’s attacking, bloggers, emails, Paige Hodson and myself.  She needs to grow a backbone.  If she’s going to attack someone she needs to just do it.  It’s frustrating.  The fact that she condemns anonymous bloggers, but some of her most ardent supporters on conservative blogs are anonymous.   Offends her that anyone who disagrees with the governor are called liars.

And they’re signing off…

In my opinion, the complaint amounts to nothing more than stating she is not a good governor. She should be here, instead she was there. Putting her personal goals ahead of her duties. In my opinion, this type of complaint is better left to an opponent running a campaign against her, rather than a serious ethics complaint. Again, this latest ethics complaint does her more good than harm.

There are many gov that are not good however they do not have a doz ethics complaints against them! GINO “I’m the mayor/governor and I can’t do what a want until the courts tell me different” The people are tired of her sh*t!
That’s what the ethics complaints are about. Now if they would just get mad enough for a recall.

Sondra Tompkins complaint is ridiculous, preposterous, laughable, pathetic, embarrassing, and absurd or any other word your thesaurus may find to describe this outlandish and bizarre behavior. Is she on welfare? Does she work somewhere? Lets protest her work or where she lives?? We must publicly hold these people accountable.

do you think a judge is likely to find, given the serious charges pending against sherry, and the nature of the charges, that SJ’s home is appropriate for unsupervised visitation?

    i hardly think so.
    ………………………………
What does the above have to do with Levi having visitation unsupervised? By law he is entitled to see his child alone or otherwise. And has his Mother been convicted? I thought not. In any event, here in PA where the standard is the welfare of the child, if one parent denies the other court ordered visitation, the denying parent loses custody. All Levi has to do is take Bristol to court and he will receive visitation. It’s a no brainer. You strike me, from reading about half way through your post, as being a gossip and an extremely judgemental and self righteous person. Please accept my apology in advance for this evaluation if you are not so. But Lady, give the young man a break.

Cherry Tart, did you get my post mixed up w/the one below mine? That statement is below my post and is not mine. As for calling anyone a gossip and extremely judgemental and self righteous, I didn’t get that in anyones posts here except for yours. Maybe a visit to the comment guidlines will do you some good, because IMHO that is just outright disrespectful, especially when you have to apologize in advance. Thank you.

I noticed in the press release Palin’s spokesperson used the – all the governors are doing it defense.
Defenders of Palin are quick to heap on the adjectives on the complaint, and the person filing it, but seem to have great difficulty addressing the complaint itself.
I’ve been on C4P and they aren’t prepared to discuss the merits of the complaints.

Here’s something to ponder! Did anyone else notice she didn’t bring Trig on the trip to Indiana because he had the “sniffles.”

I wonder if there are any groups out there like “Mothers for D/S Children” or “Mothers with Disabled Children” or something similiar with autistic children that have let her know how they feel about the way she handled Trig during the campaign.

I’m not such a mother but it sure outraged me and I remember the Judge back East that spoke out about it.

Maybe she’ll back off using him as a campaign prop…let’s hope so.

I’m just very curious as to why the public did not hear about Mad Sarah’s meeting with the Transcanada officials until just now….after the ethics complaint was filed. You would think that if they actually had this meeting planned before she left, her spokespeople would have trumpeted that fact all over the media, so it would not appear she was leaving the state just to further her own anti-abortion agenda and attend a function for Down Syndrome parents–a personal, not state cause.
Besides, why would TransCANADA people meet the ALASKAN governor in CHICAGO?! Huh? I suspect it was a very last-minute arrangement for a meeting that could just as easily been conducted via teleconference.

Well, it looks like Alaskans Linda Biegel (Celtic Diva) And (name removed) (AKMuckraker) who run the hate blogs “Celtic Diva’s Blue Oasis” and “Mudflats”, respectively, have found a new pawn.

Meet Sondra Tompkins from Anchorage, Alaska..

Now, if you do a quick Google search, you’ll see Tompkins continually described as a “reliably Republican voter”. And a “child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child.”

NOTE: Undoubtedly this Tomplins character is yet another person with few accomplisments of her own, unhappy with her life, who has decided that the best she can ever accomplish is to try to make someone as miserable as she is

    Donna Says:

I keep thinking about the defense mechanism of projection–where people attribute qualities they don’t like in themselves to others. There seems to be so much of that with these folks. It is they who doubtless have few accomplishments and are unhappy with their lives, which is why they cling to an idealized image of SP and attack people who don’t need to or are too discerning to share that image.

    One more thought Karenmarie
Why would Levi have to take a parenting class? He’s the father, right?

    ****
how does an ability to insert one’s penis in a female’s vagina and achieve orgasm qualify one to be a parent?

taking a parenting class would do two things for levi: (1) teach him some childcare basics and (2) demonstrate to a court that he is serious about being a responsible parent.

as far as sherry johnston’s guilt or innocence, i absolutely agree that one is innocent until proven guilty, but a finding of probable cause is made prior to an arrest and i do not think it at all unreasonable for me, as an individual, based on the facts in the public record about SJ, to conclude that she is of bad character. (to suggest that palin had SJ set up in this instance is completely laughable.)

when i opined that the baby should not be allowed to spend time at SJ’s home without supervision, i was not saying that levi’s visits should be supervised but that his mother’s house is inappropriate and any visits with her present should be supervised.

as far as my experience with court supervised visitation (and parenting classes), i do not have any direct personal experience except 27 years of transcribing DSS and court matters involving that issue.

are child welfare agencies perfect? far from it. but the question i was addressing was whether SJ is any kind of appropriate caretaker for her son’s child.

there seem to be quite a few people here who are allowing their distaste for la palin to color their judgment where the johnstons are concerned. it was those type of comments that i was responding to in my somewhat lengthy comment.

some of the comments reacting to my comment seem pretty hostile. i have always thought of mudflats as a friendly place and that the comment thread was for open and free discussion of different viewpoints. i have no interest in spending any time in an echo chamber.

i have no problem with people pointing out that i am wrong or that they disagree with me but i do have a problem with people attempting to shout me down.

@karen marie, I sincererely apologize if my response to you seemed hostile. I did not intend to impart that. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and the expression of it.

But I do feel very strongly about defending all teenagers and their hopes for the future. They are still growing up. And to be clear, I hope Bristol goes to college and realizes her dreams as well.

Gary is one hatefilled troll! He is well known on progressive blogs!
I love how these idiots say that, the people filing complaints 1) have no life of their own or 2) paid by Obama, or 3) afraid or jealous of GINO and then they proceed to attack their looks, job whatever!
Someone noted (Phil perhaps?) that these trolls attack the woman more than the men who have filed ethics complaints against GINO.
And then “What we can do about it?”
I didn’t know Big Bad Pitbull wearing lipsticked/mama grizzly can’t fend off a ethics complaint by these pathetic anklebiters…and she needs THEIR HELP!
Gary, who’s pathetic with no life? Look in the mirror dude!

I have been reading the ADN posts on this subject and the vitriol is appalling! One such “dude” stated that all liberals should be shot from a helicopter! Wow! Some of these folks are downright scary! Anyway, they are clearly not ever going to see anyone else’s point of view and the ADN is getting annoying in that they permit honest opinions to be hidden if they disagree with the Palinbots. I do not think I will read ADN from this point on, too many crazies posting about the evil things that should happen to anyone who disagrees with Palin. Whew!

    ______________
Someone is missing the trees because of the forest.

It’s not really a question of whether someone ever becomes qualified to be a parent but whether the insertion makes one a parent. Qualifications have nothing to do with it.

    Carry on.

  16. 266
    NoParty Says:

Alaska needs to restrict such supposed “ethics” suits. In general, anyone can be sued, but in ordinary cases, both sides have to pay the freight. Still, many lawsuits are frivolous. If you are sued and you can’t afford a high priced lawyer, you, innocent as you may be, can lose your case. In the case of these Ethics suits, that is not the case….these petty and vindictive suits against your Governor are seditious libel, and are costly, but not to the person bringing the suit…they get to do it for free. Is this only in Alaska? There are politicians all over the Country I would like to sue if it didn’t cost me a penny. At any rate, it seems to me that you seem to have a disproportionate amount of political vultures in Alaska.

  17. 267
    Professor Geezer Says:

@No Party. What is petty and vindictive about holding a governor legally accountable? That’s why we have laws. Perhaps you need to read the long list of what Governor Palin has done (including her own self-filing to investigate herself–rather unheard of) before you dismiss all 12 charges as “libel.” Name one petty charge, if you can, please, sir.
