Another beautiful warm sunny day.  The snow is melting fast, and although it remains in the Chugach Mountains, the foothills are almost snow free.  You can just see a few patches here and there stubbornly holding on in shady depressions.

Well, it was a long long day, and another one coming.  Enjoy the open thread, and remember that it will stay active all day long for any off-topic inspiration that comes your way.

caligirl…. maybe they don’t realize how difficult it is ‘ to chill out’ today when we are expecting 100 degrees here in the Valley. (Sacto)

    I would L O V E to ‘ chill out ‘ today….. not that easy.

#69 penny ….I followed the ADN link. I read that article a long time ago but, today, found something funny I had previously missed.

Johnson (SP’s biographer) writes. “As a little girl, Sarah sat through services fidgeting, staring at her shiny shoes and smoothing her skirt.

Can’t you just picture that?! I’m thinkin’ she hasn’t changed much. The Palins attend 4 different churches (one is in Juneau) and aren’t members of any. Also, it’s clear from their tax returns that they don’t tithe.

Saw those photoraphs over on Kos some days ago. Just … just, unspeakable horror, and worse, much worse to come. Won’t go into on this site. I think Pres. Obama know this will all come out, but needs to be at a step back. Others on his team know what needs to be done.

Speaking for myself, I am mortified that my government under Tony Blair was complicit in this situation and know that when the American public realises what was done in their name they will feel the same. Apart from the usual 20 percenters of course.

Wow – Mudpups you all are awesome! Caligirl -so sorry you can’t chill out with your temps. I feel your pain regarding GINO and her minions. They make me so ANGRY, and in the words of David Banner “You don’t want to make me angry!!!” ha ha!!! Irishgirl – thanks for the link to Lynnrockets, and LynnRockets thanks for setting up a blog. You crack me up!!! We need a good laugh with GINO and the Rethugs around. Perl89 – thanks for the Obama speech link, and best of luck with your volunteer efforts. So NO – good luck getting out of moderation – I was there once too for ranting about GINO :) . Must. watch. my. tongue. Also there too: that suit is a sad case, and true. We were exposed to that reality when applying for the Katie Becket (called TEFRA in Alaska) Waiver for our daughter (born with DS). They said that if her care got too extreme (i.e. we couldn’t handle it at home) then the alternative would be an out-of-state institution because Alaska doesn’t have that for kiddos with special needs. DS has not profoundly affected our dear daughter, and her home is with us, her family, not some institution. But I would never dare judge a family of a child with special needs who made the decision to place their child with an institution. Until I walked in their footseps I have no idea what they have faced. My heart goes out to the families who face those decisions. And Scarah is just awful in her approach to children and families of children with special needs. But if I rant, I will go to purgatory again, must. not. rant.
On another note: I had an awesome 1/2 marathon today – The Marine Corps Historic Half in beautiful Fredericksburg, VA. God bless our men and women in uniform at home and deployed oversees. And God bless their families too!

I won’t link but here is her statement:
I can’t imagine what he would think as the university recognizes someone who contradicts the core values of the Catholic faith by promoting an anti-life agenda.
    ————–
Another mudflatter left the link. Sorry, I’m all over the place today.

By reframing Obama’s abortion views and calling them ‘anti-life’, Palin obnoxiously shuts off debate and the possibility of working together to actually reduce unwanted pregnancies and abortions.

Obama beautifully addressed the issue today in the Notre Dame address. We’ve got to keep abortion legal and safe to protect women’s civil rights, autonomy, freedom, health (apologizing for redundancy but struggling for the right words) while reducing the occurrence of abortion.

#65 BigSlick ….thanks for the Newsweek article. Great interview. I can’t help comparing Obama to SP and laugh imagining how she would answer similar questions. When Obama was asked what he was reading, he named the book and offered a little something about it. Oh, how I wish a reporter had asked SP to describe her favorite parts of the books she has been voraciously reading (per her interview on the book deal).

Bill Kristol not only thought she was a good VP pick, if my memory serves me well (it doesn’t usually to be honest), but he had a hand in finding her for McCain. I think he was one of the Alaskan Voyage people who found her along with Bill (always wrong) Morris. I could be wrong though.

I also think he may have changed alliances to Mitt Romney or Bobby Jindal but could also be wrong on that.

Trying to get a grasp of the differences between the Republican party and the Democratic party.. I am running into a widdle issue..

So, it seems Republicans want hands off government in their business sectors? Taxes, small businesses, gun control.. ect?

    OK.. sounds reasonable

But then why is there such a push to have Government dictate people’s morals? Abortion/Antiabortion.. Gay Marriages?

So the hands off approach is only to the business sector? But they want the government very hands on when it comes to personal moral issues?

Democrats seem the opposite.. moral decisions are up to the person.. businesses the government will be sticking their noes in

Either way, to me, seem extreme

Id rather have more of a balance.. perhaps that is Independent?

This is an article about conservatives getting their arguements together to try to block whoever PO picks for the SC – pretty much soley based on the abortion issue.

This drives me crazy. Do these people not realize that they are being used by the Republican party?! If Roe v Wade was going to be overturned, it would have happened while W was pres. They vote on just this one issue and ignore everything else. Don’t they get it? Republicans don’t want abortion to be illegal any more than democrats do, they just let the Dems take the rap!

And why are they all for the death penalty? Did God say it’s ok to kill people once they’ve lived for a few years and I missed it? They seem to be pretty hot for war too. And they certainly don’t want to pay to take care of those poor children once they’re here! Ugh.

Curiouser – loved the “trick door” comment, but disagree about “Grifter Gramps.” It sounds like he was a working man trying to get what he felt was due him (and 1589 others) after GE decided that they would not increase the pension of prior “vestees.” I don’t blame the class action filers for seeking redress if they felt the original pension plan would have covered them if the plant had not been closed. I think the court made the correct decision, but it was worth a try for them to make their case. So, not a grifter, in my opinion, but a working stiff like you and me (except I’m retired too).

The grifter comment was meant in fun. The lawsuit just seems ironic given the conservative GOP stance in union vs management issues.

Playing devil’s advocate, imagine a reverse situation with reduced benefits put in place. Those with greater vested benefits wouldn’t ask to be included. Or, say AK state employee benefits were increased for future retirees and current retirees sued the state to be included. I suspect Palin would fight them tooth and nail. The state has a limited budget and couldn’t cover the costs of raising benefits for a larger group. The current retirees knew what their benefits would be and should have planned accordingly… one of those ‘tough luck’ situations. Now, I’m truly not sure if this speculation makes any sense and there’s a big possibility that I didn’t understand the lawsuit, just speculating…just for fun.
