Open Thread – Forget Me Not

It’s that time of year, and the official state flower of Alaska is in bloom. Here is the humble, but beautiful forget-me-not. It was officially adopted way back in 1917 by the Territorial Legislature. They are blooming a bit early this year.
That is the BEST pic of a forget-me-not I have ever seen….been here 41 years, too!
We were staying at a hotel last week, which provides lots of little perks, like water in the lobby. The first day they had cucumber/mint. Slices of cucumbers with sprigs of mint, ice, water, deliciously refreshing. Next day, Orange with candied ginger.
Thought I would share. As the heat is starting up maybe others can share favorite beverages for the summer!?!
BTW, we got an outrageously good price on a waterfront room in Portland, Oregon with Marriott. We had stayed with them for several months in Alaska. Really, like the chain. Our room, was only $79. Still amazing deals.
mwThatOne.. “That is the BEST pic of a forget-me-not I have ever seen”
The subtle color variation is beautiful.
Completely frustrating to me. Pet peeve. State calendars of scenic land with pictures taken that have been chopped or blocked so when you go to find the scene you end up with a little bit of beauty, surrounded by a bunch of power lines or some other distraction.
those colors must be truly awesome to see in place of all the white and gray you see so much of most of the year.
AKM what a beautiful pic of a beautiful flower! Thanks for that
Now has anyone noticed the squeeking out of the corner? No, its not a mouse but GINO telling PO….

What a beautiful photo!
Forget-me-nots are the sweetest flowers on earth.
I love the flower & love the name. Great photo.

Well if Queenie says so I guess it must be done. How annoying she is & never misses an opportunity to manipulate & irritate. I can just see her documenting all of this for her future ventures.

I don’t remember ever reading from another gov…. like every other day some BS from her telling PO this or that? What a ginormous PIA she must be for him? Like a fly you keep swatting away.
Well no, it’s not the usual protocol, but then again this is the GOVERNOR OF ALAKSA. It’s like everyone else is not aware of the threat of North Korea & what to do about it.
I posted something on the Ziegler thread about this. THIS is very interesting… but telling as well.
John Zieglers own online front webpage has no headlines or mention of his Premiere in Alaska. Is Sarah not HIS Star… to his movie…?
He sure was bragging about Himself with the interviews with Phil….. but decided not to put anything on his OWN webpage.
Is he THAT bad at promoting…. or just not proud of it
He does have a ‘ Breaking News’ comment at the top. His arrest at USC…. months ago. I guess Alaska was NOT that important.
First—AKM That photo is just stunning!
Second–ever notice that before being tapped as the VP candidate, the Queen never talked about ANYTHING in national politics, now she is telling PO what he should be doing??? I guess she needs that for her run at the Presidency…what a joke. More embarrassing by the day.

The funny thing is that she said in the press release that the armistice ‘ended’ the war… Ohhh not quite right.. its been a simmering truce for over 50 years. They failed to get a peace treaty. Tensions at the DMZ is still pretty high…
MY advise to Sarah, when you tell the President of the United States of America what to do, don’t screw up the facts…
But hey, thats just me…
How lovely.
Those lavendar blues and purples are my favorite colors.
stunning picture of a lovely flower..b
I think Brian should be chosen as Ambassador to somewhere. He represents the state of Alaska better than you know who & brings out the best in people. He should also bring Brenda & the twins along. I realize they are very young, but when the Gov. of Alaska was running for VP she brought along her whole family. At the time Trig was very young & with special considerations, but that was no detterent & they probably would not demand anyone purchase special clothing on their behalf.
Wow, stunning! I’m going to have to get my thesaurus out – I think I’m starting to overuse the word Beautiful. That and I’m going to be the one blamed when the printer runs out ink because I have to keep printing your inspiring photos. That will be worth it though!

Brian & Brenda and Kids…Alaska’s New “First Family”
Palin’s op/ed piece on why she rejected the stimulus money is in the ADN this morning. It’s pretty much the standard line of what we’ve already heard. Somehow I don’t think she gets that Wasilla may not be the best example of why building codes and other standards aren’t’ needed….
Oops – please excuse the stray apostrophe there.
Aussie Blue Sky – Please accept my apologies if I offended you yesterday. Your point is well taken; my nationalistic pride got in the way of my brain and my wording was poor. I just get frustrated at some of my fellow Americans who think our poo doesn’t stink and everything we have done everywhere in the world is perfect. They get angry with anyone who has the audacity to be realistic about the good, the bad, and the ugly, or who tries to see our actions from the perspective of the rest of world’s inhabitants. Kind of like Palin, and Ziegler.
I didn’t realize the Forget-Me-Not was the state flower of Alaska. Here in Northwestern Washington they are beautiful along the highways, but a WEED in home gardens. Every Spring I let them bloom because they are pretty. Then I pull them before they go to seed. That leaves just the right number already seeded for the next year. Otherwise they take over the place. (There is one of us negative folks in every group–right?)
Maybe GINO should be informed that when your running mate LOOSES the election, YOU DON’T GET TO STILL BE VP — please, someone give that “hockey mom” laryngitis and arthritic finger (for the twitter)
“Almost” getting to be the VP doesn’t count
Warm sunny day here in Eastern MT – going to finish mowing the lawn & doing some weeding. We uncovered our strawberry plants last night from its blanket of straw, and found some already flowering. Hope for a bucket of fresh strawberries in late June.
Open Thread – Forget Me Not: I will NEVER forget you, AKM – not as long as I live. : )
About a week before the last Palin Popularity Poll that came out by Hays Research company in Anchorage I was emailing them. They never did respond, but it was probably because they didn’t want News to leak out.
Hmm..Maybe some of us should email and ask if they will be polling again soon.
If they felt there was a buzz… would that get them going.
I want to see one of those charts again by AKM where two lines for favorable and unfavorable have finally crossed paths on the graph. They were getting close.

Have you heard about the new suggestion for stimulus money for green energy construction? Mother Jones has an excellent article about architect Ed Mazria’s proposal to aid homeowners and governments with green construction using stimulus money. Mazria has vetted the plan with banks and spoken to Teamsters who were enthusiastic about jobs in construction.
From the article in Mother Jones:
“Mazria was in Washington, D.C., last week pitching his plan to senators, administration officials, and perhaps more importantly, to a luncheon crowd of about 250 mayors, council members, and county commissioners at a national climate change summit hosted by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI).”
“Since late March, state and local officials have scrambled to secure their share of $6.3 billion in energy-efficiency grants offered by the federal stimulus package. (They have until June 25 to apply to the Department of Energy, which decides who gets what.) The politicians were riveted by Mazria’s talk, says Michelle Wyman, ICLEI’s executive director. They even stopped eating to pay closer attention, and when Mazria finished his spiel, they gave him standing ovation.”
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/05/what-one-stimulus-buck-could-do
gmoke at Daily Kos writes that a contact of his says Mazria has a presentation he can give to interested organizations. Daily Kos post
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/29/19558/9238
I don’t know if GINO’s rejection of the energy section of stimulus money would affect this or if these are separate grants. I was thinking of Eagle and other Alaskan communities that might benefit, as well as homeowners.
If you know any legislators or organizations that might be interested, please pass it on. The deadline June 25 deadline to apply is coming up soon, but there is time.

Can you say “Live from New York, it’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!”?
I can see the skit now, Mr. Obama and Mr. Wen Jiabao (Chinese Premier) seated at a poker table.
“I see your bet. And I raise your crazy-ass hobgoblin with our crazy-ass wicked ice witch!” Sarah then comes out and cackles while Fred Armisen cowers and then runs away.
Now, to get serious.
Sarah, this is not a Yu-gi-oh or Pokemon game!
Last I heard, all public officials are supposed to coordinate with the Office of the President in advance of making statements that can be construed by other governments (especially crazy-ass rogue nations) as official foreign policy statements of the US Government.
Mr. Obama should send her a public message demanding she stand down. I am sure Mr. Obama would kindly explain that Hillary is Sec. of State, not Sarah, since she doesn’t seem to understand how things are organized.
There should be consequences if Sarah doesn’t stand down. We voted NOT to have her make any National Security decisions and the timing of this statement of hers is way out of line. Perhaps she’d like to remodel a new office in Leavenworth?

I agree, weeds are in the mind of the beholder. I don’t believe that any plant so beautiful could be regarded as a “weed”. Heck, I don’t think anything as a “weed”. Plants are what they are.
