“Screw Political Correctness” Sarah Palin in Her Own Words.
(**Warning** Massively long post ahead, in which you accompany me into the belly of the beast. Adult beverage or soothing music is recommended.)
When the call came a couple days ago, and my friend asked me the question, I immediately imagined myself in one of those ads that try to get you to join the Marines. “I wanted to see if I had what it takes. I wanted to prove to myself that I had the stuff.” You know the ones.
The question? “Hey, do you want to go see Michael Reagan? I got tickets!” Now, I had already recently been to the Anchorage screening of “Media Malpractice – How Obama Got Elected and Pain was Targeted,” and I was still working out the toxins. If that was the obstacle course in my Conservative Boot Camp, then surely this would be the part where they take you into the back room for the waterboarding. Sarah Palin was presenting the opening words.
Last week when conservative talk show ignoramus Mancow said that waterboarding wasn’t torture, and then volunteered to be waterboarded, they gave him a little plastic cow to hold; his safety cow. If it got to be too much, they told him, he could just toss the cow and they’d stop. He lasted 6 seconds. I knew I could do better than that.
So off I went to the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. It was 70 degrees and the sky was blue. As I took a deep breath and headed in to the darkened theatre, I wondered why I was doing this. Thoughts of aborting the mission ran through my mind. But, I settled in. I looked at the crowd…a strange mixture of shorts, and suits, red blazers and tank tops. I spotted Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, and Rep. Bob Lynn who had also come to this dark room and bypassed soaking up the sun to soak up the words of wisdom from Ronald Reagan’s eldest son.
I saw some guy behind me showing off 8×10 glossy photos of the governor, and various members of her family which were carefully labeled with names and dates and arrows, and lovingly preserved in plastic sleeves in a binder. He also had a copy of Michael Reagan’s book, and the dvd of Media Malpractice with him. I remembered at another event months ago when a woman standing next to me was telling her friend all about her comprehensive “Sarah Palin scrapbook.”
Finally the lights went down. First up, right wing radio personality Rick Rydell who told us that his love affair with Ronald Reagan started when he was a teenager and he was lying on the couch “in a drunken stupor,” saw Reagan on TV and thought to himself, “I matter to somebody!” I’ll file that away under “way too much personal information.” It wasn’t the first time that evening I would feel like the person on the stage should have been lying on a couch, and I should have my glasses on the end of my nose, scribbling in a notebook for $80 an hour. Then he started quoting Thomas Jefferson, and John Locke. I had a mind movie of raising my hand and hollering out, “You know Jefferson wasn’t a Republican, right? Just sayin’!”
Next up, Eddie Burke, the rightest of the right, the wingnuttiest of the wingnuts, and golden boy radio shock jock of the Palin administration. He and Rick exchanged a brief moment of manlove as they crossed paths.
We got to hear all about his military service, how much he loved Reagan, how he’s going to be on his best behavior because his mother is in the audience. I don’t often give Eddie Burke credit, but at least he was wearing a suit, unlike Rydell who looked like he’d been reliving those halcyon days of high school days lying on the sofa.
Then, he introduced the governor. “Mother, wife, and fearless leader of the State of Alaska, Sarah Palin!” OK, I confess, I looked at the shoes. They were the giant cork wedge-heeled shiny red leather numbers she wore to the Memorial Day service in Fairbanks….with a black suit. She must really like those things.
I have, out of some sense of morbid fascination, typed for your reading displeasure, almost the entire text of what she said. It was 17 minutes long. Everyone got your plastic cows? Let the waterboarding begin.
(I’ll make a couple interjections now and then so you’re not alone. You can just imagine sitting next to me in the theatre, and me leaning over and whispering into a pair of parentheses now and again…)
We have an awesome guest, a guest who is affecting our culture in such a positive way. We need him to keep on being bold and we’re counting on Michael Reagan to help educate America.
(Should we keep count of how many times she says “bold?” I bet it’s at least three.)
I want to welcome tonight our good Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell who I can’t see, but I know he’s here. (applause) My brother Chuck Heath is here, and my husband Alaska’s First Dude Todd Palin is here somewhere. (applause)
(I thought we weren’t calling him that anymore. I guess “First Dude” is back in.)
So I have the honor of getting to speak with you for a bit here before I get to introduce to you Michael Reagan, and what I want to do in introducing Michael is to continue to encourage him to continue to be bold
(I elbow you in the ribs)
and to call it like he sees it, and to screw political correctness that some would expect him to have to adhere to.
(Oh my God….did she just say “Screw Political Corectness?” Will there be t-shirts?)
We want him to be bold. We need him to be bold.
(We are stifling laughter)
Mr. Reagan, we need your voice to be loud and strong, and we appreciate him. He doesn’t shy away from the tough issues and that is so good. He never lets anyone tell him to sit down and shut up, and I would hope Alaska our voice too will be heard across this nation. I look forward to hearing from Michael Reagan tonight because America must learn from him, from his remarkable father, and that remarkable presidency.
(“You’re going to transcribe this, right?” you whisper. “Yeah, looks like I’m going to have to,” I answer.)
First, I think what we’re going to learn tonight via Michael is that Ronald Reagan’s ideas were the right ideas and all we have to do is look back at his record, his economic record and his national security record to know that his ideas were right. It was common sense conservativism. It was right then. It’s right now. Recently, Newt Gingrich, he had written a good article about Reagan. He said, regarding your dad Michael, he said that we need to learn from his example that courage and persistence are keys to historic achievement and with Reagan’s example, D.C. politicians calling the shots for our country, they had better rely on the good sense of the American people and bag their alliance on the entrenched beaurocrats and the elite self-proclaimed intellectuals, and the smug lobbyists who dominate Washington, and the liberal media that is imposing its will on Washington, embracing that status quo, that business as usual. It’s not good for our country.
(Did you bring a flask?)
But, we have to remember first that Ronald Reagan never won any arguments in Washington. He won the arguments by resonating with the American people. Those of us so proud to be Americans, and willing to acknowledge that no, we’re not a perfect nation, but never never do we have to apologize for being proud of our country. (applause)
(What does that even mean??)
So Ronald Reagan spoke to us then with us here in our hearts is where he reached us, and that’s where he won the arguments and then, this was, this was the good part, we the American people through him, we imposed our will on Washington, and that is the way it’s supposed to be.
(I think that sentence may get the Word Salad award.)
Our government is supposed to be working for us, we are not to be working for our government. It’s our will to be imposed on them. (applause) He captured our hearts so he could affect positive change by what he did. He focused on our kids, on our children, on their future, on the future of America. And when he fought socialism and any sort of tyranny that he knew would ruin us, he stood strong on his knowing that the framework through which he believed that positive change that framework for our kids, it was freedom.
(Wait…..no….maybe it was that one)
Today the things that some in Washington would do to take away our freedoms, it’s absolutely astounding, and we would do so well to look back on those Reagan years as he championed the cause for freedom and then he lived it out as our president – cheerfully, persistently and unapologetically. Reagan knew that real change and real change requiring shaking things up and maybe takin’ off the entrenched interest thwarting the will of the people with their ignoring of our concerns about future peril caused by selfish short-sighted advocacy for growing government and digging more debt, and taking away individual and state’s rights and hampering opportunity to responsibly develop our resources, and coddling those who would seek to harm America and her allies.
(Nope. It’s definitely THAT one!)
What Newt had written in this article, he wrote “remember how refreshing it was with his outrageous directness that Americans loved, and praised and deserved” that Reagan dealt with, with then the troublesome Soviet Union, remember this? His vision for the Cold War? We win, they lose.
(I snap a photo when she says “They lose.” See above.)
And with detente, speaking of detente, he used two words – “Evil Empire.” He called it like he saw it, and now why today, I have to ask why today do we feel we have to pussyfoot around our troublesome foes, saying for example, the terrorists who still seek to kill Americans and destroy our allies. They haven’t changed their tune. Terrorists are still dead set against us, and are set on destroying Israel, and against our freedoms, against our security and I’ve got a kid over there fighting for our country and our country’s freedom right now. It is war over there so it will not be war over here, and it had better still be our mission that we win, they lose! (applause)
(Hair raises on the back of my neck due to flashback of angry rallies during the presidential campaign. This is starting to feel oogy.)
Now, on the economy, remember Reagan used to remind us that America was built on freedom and free enterprise, reward for strong work ethic. Some in Washington would approach our economic woes in ways that absolutely defy Economics 101, and they fly in the face of the principles providing opportunity for industrious Americans to succeed or to fail on their own accord. Those principles that we teach our children and employ in our own businesses and our own households to balance our budgets , and live within our means and financially secure our futures, and it makes you wonder what the heck some in Washington are trying to accomplish here?
(I find my brain starting to feel a little dazed and sleepy… Talking points are starting to feel like verbal Xanax….)
It’s all really so backwards and skewed as to sound like absolute nonsense when some of this new economic policy is explained…
(I pop back into alertness for a moment to commiserate with you about how hilarious that “it’s really so backwards and skewed as to sound like absolute nonsense” would be on a t-shirt with her face on it. But then I slip back into semi-consciousness and only get every other sentence fragment.)
[paraphrasing] Disincentivize businesses with threats of taking them over…bla bla…new administration is going to increase taxes…bla bla … outrageous government growth…more taxes… “shooing away the jobs to foreign countries”…makes us more reliant on other countries….can’t sustain new government ‘largesse’… our kids and their kids and their kids and their kids kids…we need to employ “Reaganism” or we’re all doomed..bla bla…erosion of free market opportunities…this shift is economically preposterous and immoral…[end of paraphrasing]
(Rubbing face briskly with hands, shaking out arms, and stretching in chair)
Does anyone remember life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness? Because socialism…any kind of hint towards socialism, it takes away freedoms and opportunity and hope and then we do forget that life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness is inherent rights that God has provided us.
(There she goes quoting that Democrat again. And I wonder if she thinks that the public library, the highway system, the police, the fire department and public schools take away our freedom and opportunity? Too bad she’s not doing a Q&A.)
I want to hit on one thing specific that I’m suggesting here and that’s with the stimulus package. Alaskans have heard me talk a lot about this.
(Oh, here we go.)
You gotta ask yourself, what is this all about? The process even of creating the stimulus package. Congress being expected to vote on it without even knowing what was in it, but conservatives and Republicans in Congress, they looked at this debt-ridden gargantuan government growth plan and they voted against it. They didn’t like it. They warned states that there were fat fat strings attached to these dollars, and there were strings, there are strings because that’s inherent in federal spending. That’s the nature of the beast. Of course there are strings attached, and so there were lots of warnings given to all the states that hey, unless your state is ready to chuck the 10th amendment, and you’re going to hand over willingly more power control to big centralized government and to D.C. politicians who are going to tell you what to do in your state, the warning was, legislatures be careful with the temptation with the stimulus package dollars. They didn’t like it then, but then when a bunch of us elected local officials we agreed with them, and you know we started seeing the press releases kinda braggin’ up the bacon
(Braggin’ up the bacon?)
that these hundreds of millions of billions of dollars, almost a trillion dollars total were going to bring into our states, the buckets of money, the borrowed money that would pour into the states.
[long explanation about how it's all about the governors with "brave concerns" who tried to reject money and how they were painted like bad guys]
And let’s be honest…
(Oh yes, please….let’s.)
states were made to look incompetent, almost unethical if they were staying consistent, and were still saying no to accepting some of those federal funds that don’t necessarily stimulate the economy or create private sector jobs, as was being fed to us as.
(Made to look incompetent? Alas, I think the executive in this state didn’t need much help in that department.)
These are short-term expectation-building new beaurocratic growth spurts, and legislatures ended up resolving to take the money which it was contributing to more dizzying national debt.
The mixed messages then the confusion and now frustration, disenchantment with the disenchantment from our own government, and look what happened when here in Alaska my administration, I vetoed the stimulus package, some of the dollars with obvious big government strings attached, and shoot, I just about got run out of town by some.
(Maybe “some” will try harder next time.)
Friends, we need to be aware of the creation of a fearful population, and of fearful lawmakers being led to believe that big government is the answer to bail out the private sector because then goverment gets to get in there and control it and, mark my words, this is going to happen next I fear,
(Be aware of fear!)
bail out next debt-ridden states, then government gets to get in there and control the people, and watch what happens there. Michael, maybe you want to talk about your home state California. We’ll see what happens there but you know it’s…. aaaaa!…. for the love of God you’ve got to ask yourself where we got off track?
(Well, that was quite dramatic….)
Michael Reagan’s going to talk about getting on the right track. He knows, we know here in Alaska that America is the greatest nation on earth because our foundation is freedom and it’s in God we trust, it’s not in big government that we trust. (applause)
So I encourage Michael just to keep on speaking up, and for me….you know me…. Before my Franco Sarto red high heels
even get off the stage and touch the floor my critics, they’re going to be loaded for bear and they’re going to start unloading because, because I dared speak up.
(Wow. Red high heels and bear hunting in the same analogy. What’s next, hockey mom again? That would complete the meme perfectly.)
But you, you here tonight I know that you understand. Some though, they’re empowered by national figures and some in the press who, who want to put not just me, but anybody who dares speak up it seems nowadays right back down in their place if one dares speak their mind nowadays, and here in Alaska it’s kind of like this new normal it’s a little bit being accepted it seems like that we’re dealing in, but so be it.
(Where’s my check from Obama, darn it? Back down in your place? What place? Head is beginning to throb…)
I…I think things here that have so drastically changed these past months…some want to forbid others from speaking up and it’s been through lawsuits, been ethics violation charges, media distortions…by the way today we won that 14th ethics charge. And only Alaskans can appreciate this one. We won the one where I show up at the Iron Dog because it’s freezing cold and I’m wearing my warm Arctic Cat coat, and a charge is levied against me for wearing the logo on the coat, but we won so that’s cool. And those are the folks that want to tell me, want to tell you to siddown and shuddup.
(OK, am I a bad person if I say I do want her to sit down and shut up? And how much will you give me if I do it out loud…right….now??)
We will not do so.
(Dang.)
I just can’t because I love my state, I love my country, and I need you, we need Michael Reagan to keep on fighting for our freedoms, for our country and what we’re being fed today, it seems, is a steady diet of selected misrepresented news. So we need the Reagans of the world today to remind us of truth.
Let me ask you why is it considering how fast the world is spinning and world changing events that go on all over the globe that do affect our lives, world changing events, thousands of them every day, why do you suppose that it’s the same big three supposedly competing networks that have the same news content every night and virtually the same exact viewpoint being spewed night after night after night. We’ve gotta ask those questions.
(Wait….go back. Is the world spinning faster now? Did I miss something?)
So I join you in speaking up and asking the questions and taking action, and here at home in my beloved Alaska I just say, politically speaking, if I die, I die. I’ll know that I have spoken up and I will speak up to thank people like Mr. Reagan as we honor his dad, to encourage you too, Alaskans, to do the same and don’t just hang in there and go along to get along but stand up and speak up, and be bold and demand that Washington be prudent with our public monies and prioritize for America’s security, and forget the political corectness that makes one guard your conversation, and couch our words so cautiously that they lose meaning, and we lose effectiveness, and then we lose hope because we start thinking that politicians are only worried about their poll numbers and attracting campaign contributions for their next bid so that they can hold on to some title and some position.
(Longest sentence ever created including the word “bold.”)
Noooo, let’s remind them, those that we elect, that we expect them to be bold
(Is that five….or six?)
and so they are to be representing the will of the people to defend our constitution and to win our wars and obviously, me not being, in fact not many of us here tonight are not in that political financial academic elite center of power. We’re not there. And it’s kind of refreshing to be outside of that to tell you the truth. I am just a mom. I am a proud Alaskan hockey mom,
(Aaaa! Hockey mom! How long has it been since Track played hockey, anyway?)
and I love my country, and I’m concerned about my kids’ future and your kids’ future and because I was raised where it is rugged, and you kinda gotta be tough, and with dogged determination in order to survive sometimes. Well not many of us in Alaska are inclined to just sit down and shut up, and I thank Michael Reagan for honoring Alaska, being here tonight, continuing to lead a cause for a better America….Let’s hear it for Michael Reagan!
We did it. (fist bump) It’s better when you’re not alone.
Now, Michael Reagan takes the stage, though he never greets Palin. She walks off one way, and he walks on from the other side. What follows is a sort of entertaining, sort of sad tale of his childhood. He talks about his biological parents and how they gave him up for adoption, and how the Reagan’s told his pregnant mother, “If it’s a boy give us a call.” Then the divorce when he was three. Then how he was sent to boarding school, and a military academy, but never felt abandoned.
Just as I think to myself, “wouldn’t it be fun to have Ron Reagan, the progressive talk radio icon, and the “other son” here,” Michael Reagan said, “I can’t tell you how many times I wish [my parents] had stuck with adoption,” indicating his disdain at the progressive bent of Reagan’s other children. Nice.
Then we learned how today, “JFK would be considered a conservative Republican and would be appalled at what the rest of the family has done to America.” A sudden urge to throw my shoe, and simulatneous regret that it is not a red stiletto heel hit me at the same time. I don’t feel sorry for him anymore.
A couple more “my Dad” stories later, he tells us that in his class at the military academy run by nuns, “Three quarters of us would have been diagnosed as ADD/ADHD. It took [the nun] three weeks and a ruler to knock it out of us.”
I don’t think it was that story in particular, but more of a cumulative effect. But that’s the moment when I “tossed the cow.” It had to end now. My brow was damp, and my blood pressure had been creeping up steadily for the last… what felt like an eternity.
I headed for the back of the theatre, pushed the doors open, entered the daylit corridor, and took a big inhalation of air. It felt like the breath you take when you were a kid and you tried to swim underwater the whole length of the pool and just barely made it to the other side.
The grey matter was in need of some serious repair before the transcription work began. Fortunately help was right across the street at Cafe Savannah. Good conversation, good wine and good olives can work miracles.
I got a call this morning from my history teacher sister, the one who actually broke the Palin nomination news to me on August 29th. “Did you hear Obama’s speech in Cairo?” she asked, almost breathless. She had visited there last year, and explained that the hostility and anger felt toward the Bush administration was almost palpable. “They gave him a standing ovation!” she told me. “And that was before he even spoke!” I thought with some sadness that while I, and 400 other Alaskans had been listening to the drivel above, millions of others had been on the opposite end of the political universe. They were listening to messages of healing and reconciliation, and a leader who spoke about tough issues realizing that diplomacy, and seeking common ground is what will move our world forward through the incredible challenges we face. This is what we need, not the sophomoric “we win, they lose” mentality.
I look forward to listening to the speech in its entirety tonight. And I’ll raise my glass and be glad once again for the outcome of the 2008 presidential election.
[A version of this article is posted at The Huffington Post. Read, comment, and Buzz it Up! HERE.]

Thank you for your sacrifice. I couldn’t have done it without throwing something at the stage- even a symbolic gum wrapper would have done.
Thank you for enduring that for us.
My head is shaking back and forth so much I feel like one of those bobble head dolls. Unbelievable … there must be another universe out there that is missing their idiots. Please, oh please friendly aliens, swing back by Earth and pick these two up – we’ll throw in Eddie B as a bonus. Un _____ believable …
I would also like to thank you for your sacrifice in sitting through that mess.
I cringe every time I imagine her in the White House. Palin is digging a huge hole to bury herself and I am continually thankful that you are there to inform us of her actions.
“Screw Fiscal Conservatives”
“First, I think (but I’m not totally sure) what we’re going to learn tonight via Michael is that Ronald Reagan’s ideas were the right ideas and all we have to do is look back at his record, his economic record ….”

MMMM… How did Michale Regan explain California with it’s republican governor who replaced the democratic one?
Regan, the administration that was palling around with terrorists, you know, the ones that gave us Iran -contra?
I hate to say it, but that women is going to run for president. She hits all the right wingnut buttons.
Obama was amazing in Cairo. But listen to palin’s rhetoric about fighting them elsewhere so we don’t fight them here.
And wasn’t her son in the military because his other choice was jail? Am I right in this? If not, I apologize.
wow, I need a drink and some olives now…
Hey, wait a minute!
Palin spoke about “shooing away the jobs to foreign countries”… Aren’t those Franco Sarto shoes European???
Franco Sarto shoes set the standard for European fashion design. Originating from the mind of their name-sake Italian designer…
Why don’t she just wear some American made skank Candies???
“I look forward to listening to the speech in its entirety tonight. And I’ll raise my glass and be glad once again for the outcome of the 2008 presidential election.”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Amen to that….and cheers AKM!
I have only read two paragraphs…..running down to the shop for a 1/2 bottle of wine so that I can truly enjoy the rest of it!!
Oh, yea. They’re “European made” alright. And on sale at Nordstrom.

Holy crap…she must have fired her speechwriter. Someone up there in Alaska needs to bury this woman for good. Her ignorant rhetoric is dangerous and a threat to our national security.
I hope Levi is the one to put an end to her career.
Man, those shoes, say it all about your gov. No clue about what is business attire. (I could see them with a sun dress at a barbecue.) She has about one more year dressing like that until she starts looking like a creepy “cougar”. If she takes to leopard prints, be afraid. Thanks AKM for boldly going.
Ironically, the model of shoe is called “Talk”. Franco Sarto, at Nordstrom ( of course!) was $89.95, now $59.90.
I threw the cow after the first sentence. Stupidity is worse than waterboarding.
Thanks again AKM for taking one for the team. Sounds very close to one of those ole campaign talks. Riling up the base with lies & 1/2 truths.
Palin is going back to her secessionist roots.
amazing the words Palin can throw together and only in her mind do they make sense….bless you for your efforts to transcribe gobbly gook!
Amazing. You get the “Golden Comma” award for trying to punctuate a Palin Speech! Bravo, Mud!
First, I think what we’re going to learn tonight via Michael is that Ronald Reagan’s ideas were the right ideas and all we have to do is look back at his record, his economic record and his national security record to know that his ideas were right.
She does know that Ronald Reagan spoke out against torture, doesn’t she?
What I would love to see is Ron Reagan debating his brother Michael Reagan. Ron would wipe the floor with Michael.

Once again , thanks for taking one for the team. I SO wanted to read that you threw the plastic Brian moose at some point.
I wasn’t ready to sacrifice him to that crowd!
AKM
That’s “our” Sarah: playing fast & loose with the facts.
I know literally 100s of liberals, and none of us have ever, nor will we ever, “apologize” for being proud of our country. Unlike Mrs. Todd Palin, however, we have self-awareness and an understanding/familiarity with the world (because we’ve traveled widely and have friends in other countries and on other continents).
We won, she lost and 100 pair of red shoes will never erase that fact.
Sorry AKM I tried to read the whole post but my mind kept wandering to shiny things in the room.. I think Palinitis is catching..:)
I do however salute you for subjecting yourself to this stuff so that we kept informed..
.
.
OK…. there’s so much to say, that all I can say is that if she clips one “G” off her words ( thinkin’ hopin’ ad nausium) I’m goin’ to e-splode! hahahahaha
Cripes… what a dish she is!
One MORE “G”.
Nice proofreading eh?
Thank you once again Palin for helping the Democrats become stronger and stronger everyday. I’m starting to wonder how we could ever do without your input. =)
GAAAAH! I would have not been a good person to have beside you in that dark theatre. I would have poked you at least as much as you poked me, and the snark would have been unrelenting. In fact, probably would have caused a scene. Good thing you have grown-up friends.
Obama spoke with the world listening, as always, to the political correctness that bravely addresses issues of importance for us all.
I would have definitely gone to cafe Savannah, but you couldn’t have dragged me to the theater. So sorry that the Shadow cannot be ignore.
OT sorry, but SC supreme court ordering Sanford to accept all stimulus funds. Now it’s time for Alaska to get tough on GINO.

Sure hope the dumb b*^ch brings the seasoning of her choice if she wanders out on the national stage………she is gonna eat those words bigtime. Bring it on. Oh…….and make sure you wear the CFM’s………
Okay, I’m half-way through this and I have to purge a thought. I hope that, should Palin run for POTUS in 2012, she continues to rant the “We win, they lose” mantra, because that will surely ensure another 4 for Pres. Obama. That segment of her speech is truly horrifying.
Okay, deep breath taken… I’m goin’ back in!
That is not a word salad coming from GINO, that’s an all you can eat word buffet!
I”m thinking now that AKM’s slogan should be: Listening to Sarah so you don’t have to.
Michael Reagan looks like Chevy CHase (or maybe it’s the other way around). LOL! Maybe Chevy and Tina Fey can do a skit.
Those red shoes are awful, awful, awful. AKM you need to throw a “FMP” or “CFM” shoe party next. Everybody see wear the reddist and/or “horey-ist” shoes/boots they can find, even if they have to buy a pair! My I do crack myself up!

Palin is so anti-federal government that its scarry. We won’t have to cede from the US they will probobly kick us out if Palin doesn’t watch what she is saying. I believe she is a national security threat as well. She is going to ultimately insult the wrong leader in another country that will not tolerate her BS and we will suffer for it. Why isn’t she out of office already. The world thinks all Alaskans are like Sarah….please know we are not.
Thank you for providing the detail of the speech. When you read the high points in another summary (as will not be named), the speech sounds okay. I managed to read your post, but I had the feeling that her mouth was not connected to her brain. It reminded me of grammar school. In my day a frequent punishment by the teacher of an unruly class was to have us write 100 words on why….whatever. We would write down any word that came into our minds, knowing the teacher would never read them.
I’m wondering why Michael Reagan didn’t acknowledge SP on the stage. My guess is that he didn’t want any quotes connected with her. Also, if she was so interested in learning from him, why did she leave early?
I’d never heard of M. Reagan before except in biographical glimpses of the family. Does he have an audience or following? Did he mention the statue unveiling and stem cell research?
Thank you for your sacrifice.
My understanding is that he is not particularly well-liked among the other Reagans. I do not believe he was invited to the events recently. I believe he was only in the White House once or twice and he and “Dad” didn’t see eye to eye much. AKM
I think we have the title of her book: Screw Political Correctness By Sarah Palin.
Come to think of it, why does Sarah even bother to use words at all? Simple grunts and snorts would work equally as well in imparting her ‘me good, you bad’ kindergarten philosophy.
(On second thought, I’m sure even Kindergarten students have a better understanding of international relations than tweedledum does).
I think SP really believes all that baloney she spews. She’s too uninformed to realize that she too, and also, is being used as a pawn of the nutters. She’s so busy crying victim for how she is being treated now, she won’t know what to do with herself when she really starts getting attacked by her own crowd.
Thanks as usual to AKM for bravley going where no progressive should have to go!
kudos to you, akm. i cannot believe her new slogan – we win, they lose. i am sure no one with any foriegn policy knowledge would have been so remiss as to advise her to take on that slogan?
my new slogan is “if she ever wins, we ALL lose”
i need a shower and a glass of wine now. boldly i go forth…
Oh, no, she did NOT mention those awful shoes by brand name? And in the same breath using the phrase “loaded for bear” (then why isn’t she wearing huntin’ or hikin’ boots, eh? )
I just finished reading that … omigawd, AKM… have another glass of wine, dear. I’ll have one with you.
Nan
Okay! for starters, this bit -
“and then we lose hope because we start thinking that politicians are only worried about their poll numbers and attracting campaign contributions for their next bid so that they can hold on to some title and some position”.
This is the woman that just employed a personal pollster right?! and the woman who stared a PAC, as well as a legal fund, right?
Don’t even get me started about why a Grandma is wearing ugly teenager shoes.
Well, I needed that glass of wine. I would have been on the floor laughing at “the fourth word salad.” I think you missed one *bold* also too. Glad you resisted the urge to throw your non-existent red stilletoes at the stage. I don’t think I could have.
That was hilarious (your take) though very scary. I am going to have to reread it again.
To all of you Mudflatters who find your head spinning after reading AKM’s courageous transcription of Sarah Palin’s speech, trust me when I say IT WAS MUCH WORSE IN PERSON.
Having my friends with me almost made it bearable, but I still could not resist making a number of loud angry exclamations which could be heard several rows away. (At one point i thought that Shannyn was going to crawl away on her hands and knees just so nobody would see that she was sitting near me.)
Well anyhow i apologize to AKM for being a bit undisciplined, but my God was that a painful thing to go through. At one point i thought that Governor Sarah had literally broken my brain.
Wow, thank you AKM for goin in, man I would have been beside myself, steamed, definately a stiff drink to calm nerves and take her edge off, then I would have needed a barf bag, after that, deep breathing fresh air, shaking off the ishiness, finding something of beauty to center me and hugs from good friends.
She is a total nut case and yes, this speech says she’s running for Prez, good luck, har, I dare her. But ya know, when she loses it will be someones fault, lol. There is not a gracious bone in her body. Thank goodness the likes of her is in the minority.
Don’t ya just love how she likes to throw the whole state of Alaska as supporting her. We never I, as an individual. Hey Scarah, be bold on your own.
Oh dear, poor Shannyn, Gryphen and AKM…we can forgive a bit of indisipline now and then. Don’t let her break your brain though.
I wish I had some wine in the house! AKM, you need to get yourself to a sweat lodge, stat! The effects are gonna linger. The word salad and audacity of SP could almost be amusing, but I find your account of MR’s talk utterly despairing. The despair I feel is for HIM– what a sad and pathetic life he must have.
Thanks BigPete for the graphic!! I tried to post a similar graphic in a comment stream about Reagan on that “other” site. It was dismissed as “fantasy” and I was invited to leave the site. Well, as they say, “Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.”
You’ve probably all seen this already, and I assume Michael didn’t reference it in his speech: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/01/opinion/01krugman.html?_r=1 (“Reagan Did It” by Krugman)
AHHHH..loud screaming..BLAAAAHHH…loud puking… RECALL that lying crazy woman
This was even better than reading the transcript from the Sarcozy phone call! Thanks again for taking one for the team, AKM!
Going to pour myself a stiff drink and re-read the mumbo jumbo for more hearty laughs…
That was truly, amazingly awful, as in incoherent and nonsensical. My sons could speak better than that by the time they were about 10 years old. And I see she had to brag that “we won the 14th ethics charge”–why would brag about having 14 ethics charges?! But hey, “We won, so that’s cool.” That’s so…seventh-grader-sounding.
I do hope that iceberg hits her soon, so after a brief burst of negative publicity she will flame out, burn up and GO AWAY!!!
AKM, what brought him to AK? burke? meg?
I have a feeling you shouldn’t have said *Adult beverage recommended.*
Screwing, braggin’ and bringin’… no wonder she needed those red shoes. I think there’s a hidden message in there. Just guessin’
Everytime I hear someone talk about America in the ‘good ole days’ I think of a John Wayne movie we have. Every time we watch it I laugh.
In the movie he recruits a bunch of young boys (ages 8-13), takes them out of school and onto the trail (to herd cattle and become men).
On the trail he cures one boy of his stuttering by making him so mad he swears at John. Amazing, cured. Before he got mad and swore John made aweful fun of his st st st uuu tt tt eeerrr ing.
The kids steal booze and get drunk, say all sorts of bad words, fist fight, meet the hooker wagon and become quite interested, then when they come upon bad guys, who kill John, the boys tie up the black cook, steal the guns, and catch and slaughter several bad guys. When the one bad guy lay shot and bleeding, broken leg stuck under his horse, the boys slap the horse and send his through a creek and across the desert trailing behind the running horse, broken leg twisting this way and that, face in the water then dragging through the stones and gravel (now little cow in hand).
Not what folks nowadays would consider good, wholesome kid frienly livin’. These days it’d be R rated for violence, hookers and bad words.
Cracks me up every time I watch it, and every time I say “I really need to write an article about this…” and I never do.
Yeah, the good old days. Wonder how many of those child acters ended up with Polio?
Oh poor AKM. I don’t know how you sat through that. My brain hurts just reading it, and you actually had to HEAR it. Owie. Owie. You deserve another glass of wine.
Speakin of bringin home some of that gargantuous stimulous bacon:
The South Carolina Supreme Court has ordered Gov. Mark Sanford to apply for the disputed $700 million in federal stimulus money.
The court voted 5-0, with Justice Costa Pleicones concurring in a separate opinion, that the General Assembly had the authority in passing the state budget to order Sanford to apply for the money. Sanford contended that a federal law passed in February gave him the sole authority to apply for the money.
The justices also issued a rare writ of mandamus ordering Sanford to apply for the money.
PS Those olives DO look yummy.
I made it through the entire speech (thanks to AKM’s “asides”). I have concluded that SP does NOT know how she sounds. NO self-awareness, NO idea that she is not speaking in proper or coherent sentences. My low opinion of her just sunk lower. It is almost like she is proud of her writing/speaking abilities, like a four year old child who has drawn stick figures of his family and beams as mommy tapes it to the refrigerator. Her “fans” with their scrapbooks, fawning over her stick-figures (word salad) see what they want to see. No wonder GINO does not want or respect higher education for AK citizens! She needs them dummied down or she will be babbling to empty halls.
And didn’t Michael actually SAY she should just shut up in his interview with the ADN…?!?!? So much for thinking he’s such a great person and learning from him. Oops, my bad, she doesn’t learn from anyone, does she?
Does she need to compete with Bristol and candies?
Thinks she’s defying critics by plugging the maker of ugly shoes? She still doesn’t get it that if you’re not taking $, the maker’s name is just an adjective?
WOW!!! Has GINO ever met a verb she didn’t have the uncontrollable compulsion to add ‘-ing’ to????
I’d love to have the speech/language teacher at my school analyze this transcript, but I like her too much to see her twitching in a fetal position under her desk, foaming at the mouth and clawing at her eyes!
I can’t wait to hear some of the speech made by the President today and compare it to this mess. Hard to believe she could have been so close to inheriting his job…
There´s a link on facebook, on the Whitehouse page, for the speech. I think it is very busy though. Tried to get it and it wouldn´t work. I´ll try again later. It will be just as good in a few days as it is now.
I hardly could read the Palin drivel. How could you listen? Are those people all self-centered or what?
Good Going for SC.
Funny comment on the CNN Political Ticker article about Sarah’s speech:
“Kudos” to the poor person that had to transcribe this drivel. She has no coherent thoughts and thus no coherent speech pattern. Reading this, one gets the impression that perhaps too much alcohol was ingested during her time at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.
Maybe that’s where she got that phrase…”I can see Russia from my house.”
Perhaps it started with “I can see Moscow from the bathroom floor in my dorm.”
OMG! AKM!!!!!
She is campaigning! For what party I don’t know….! Is she trying to bring Reagan on board???
“Michael Reagan’s going to talk about getting on the right track. He knows, we know here in Alaska that America is the greatest nation on earth because our foundation is freedom and it’s in God we trust, it’s not in big government that we trust. ”
And for you very, very brave souls….(AKM you’ve already been waterboarded enough!)
here is the audio by Dennis zaki
http://alaskareport.com/audio/palin.mp3
So she had to talk about the ethics, Track in Iraq, yadda,yadda…she so predictable and transparent….
So I guess this is it…”The BASE”?
And AKM? Next time bring a shoe! I bet she can’t duck as well as GW did
Bless you AKM for listening to all that crap…I finally just gave it a quick read over..Shaking my head..My dogs are smarter than silly Sarah…
Palin just can’t quit with the snark can she? ‘change’, ‘proud to be American’ ‘educated elite’ – sorry twit, the people who are proud to be American were listening to the Great Stateseman in Egypt, President Obama.
Thanks. I wouldn’t ask this of anybody.
Boy, talking about biting the hand that feeds you. Will sarah and the truth ever meet?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/3/122716/897/380/618991
Two things I’d like to chime in on: one, there was a joke in the 80′s that Michael Reagan spent so much time with his family, when he’d see Joel McCrea on the street, he’s say “Hi Dad” (For the young-uns, Joel McCrea, a boyishly handsome B movie actor in the 40′s, similar roles to RR)
Second, a movie “It could Happen to You” with Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda – he wins the lottery, gives her half – am having a senior moment and can’t be sure of the title – Cage’s wife is played by Rosie Perez. (Puerto Rican women being in the news called the film to mind) Then I realized – Rosie Perez’ character is SARAH PALIN! Greedy, stupid, arrogant.
AKM – Thank you for sacrificing your sanity on our behalf. You are amazing.
You know, someone else dressed inappropriately and called out on it would have gone home, a little embarrassed and probably thought about it a little bit more the next time. I mean if your job was to be in the public etc. But no, the Gov. is pissed about it and digs in her heels (yeah, sorry) and is now going to use that as her “badge of honor”. All ego, no sense.
I do understand the urge to go against the norm though – am not advocating everyone just following along etc., but then again, when you are a public, professional politician, you should consider the impression you make.
Gryphen……..you and I together would have been in trouble, lol…….actually, I would have gotten mad enough to diss her by getting up and walking out before she was done. I could not have sat through that crap talk.
Bless you, AKM, for “taking one for the team”. I was privileged to watch the speech by President Obama on YouTube, and was in tears by the end. Not tears of frustration and disgust, as I would have been had I been at the Palin speech, but tears of joy that we have a President willing to appeal to the humanity in all of us to achieve Peace.
Reagan’s tax cuts and economic policies irrevocably destroyed the United States within the first three months of his presidency. Anyone want Sarah for one?
Screw political correctness?
screw? rather heavy hitting for a christian hockey mom, don’t ya think? good grief, is she going militant terrorist now?
Okay, I can’t take it anymore. As the great Molly Ivins once said, “It’s not that I’m anti-gun, it’s that I’m pro-knife. You don’t accidentally knife someone to death.”
Oh my word. I wanted to slit my own wrists while reading Palin’s speech. A horizontal cut, I thought, I’ll bleed out faster. I was so worried that AKM had taken the day off or wasn’t going to post until tomorrow, but fear not, our fearless leader was waterboarding herself with Palin’s ignorant-redneck laden-infuriatin-Obama hatin-bear baitin-red shoe skankin ways.
Stop the insanity. Will she ever go away? We thank you for attending the event and suffering for the cause, but it’s almost too painful to read.
I was basking in the light of the intelligent and BRAVE speech made by our President and then I had to read THIS?!
Here in Texas, the saying goes, “The higher the hair, the closer to God”…I believe that’s why she lops it all up on top of her head like cow manure with a clippy. I firmly believe she is Bible Spice. She uses those evangelical code words like a new recruit of some preacher sporting a bad veneer job and Armani suit.
“their will”
“be bold, be strong”
“believe”
I’m a Christian woman, so I suppose I should shut up now. But God knows, and oh yes, she really knows that I can’t take Sarah Palin anymore. Alaska isn’t far enough. Fine then. Send her to Cairo. Make HER sit through HIS speech. Reading her transcription alone would provide enough comedy fodder for an entire season of bad reality TV.
I can’t take it anymore.
But you have to know your enemy….but must we…must we…share America with her?
Ugh.
She must not run for President. I can’t do this again. I can’t devote another minute to the fight against all things Sarah.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gawd, this is too much to ask of any rational human being. Thank you for your continued sacrifice, AKM. I am so glad we are sending you to Netroots, PA (…still looking like a landslide first place finish)!
Radical reactionary, I’d say. Thanks, AKM, for your amazing foray into the viper’s den. Enlightening and disgusting at the same time. Please, I hope a nice hot bath is in the works.
I’m still sitting here wondering why she felt it necessary to tell us the name of the shoe designer. I guess so we wouldn’t think they were Candies, and perhaps then file another ethics complaint, thinking that Bristol got free stuff and shared it with her mother??? oh. my. god.
And speaking of those shoes, has no one, in all these years of putting “everything in front of her,” never put a copy of Glamour in front of her so she could check out the “Glamour Don’ts” section? Cork heels? With a SUIT? It’s worse than I thought. (haha)
*thunk*thunk*thunk* (my head hitting the wall)
And just one more thing: Who wrote that speech? Was it a speech? What the hell was that? It SOUNDS like perfect Palinese, so she must have come up with that word crap herself. However, if she actually hit PRINT and shuffled her papers and did a little click, click, click with those highly disorganized thoughts in hand…then this truly is a very serious matter. An intervention is in order. If that mess runs for office we should start a website and name it something like: yesreally.com…or seriously.com…or..imnotkidding.com….
And just post nothing but her exact words, speechs, burps, whatever…everything. No comments…nothing…force Americans to read her bull. How could ANY person with a 4th grade education SERIOUSLY not be deeply concerned about her running for office?
I can’t take it anymore.
A) Re; the erstwhile Mr. Reagan. He is not the biological progeny of Ronnie Raygun. Reagan is the adopted son of RR.
Obviously, genetics is not at work with the bombastic Mikey. Ronnie, after all, was the man of relatively few words and usually spoke in moderated ‘tones’ (meaning not the topic, but in measured/moderate words understood by most common folks).
B) Seems to me that SP cannot grasp the idea that fewer words in moderated tones might get off off the wagon of “also, too”, and oh yeah, that wondrous new meme of “Then government gets to get in there and control the people.”
Just more fuel for the fire that’s heading SP’s way – brought to you in living color and in stereo by her own verbiage.
JMO…
Did Palin have to read Reagan For Dummies to get all her “insights” into Reagan?
Pullleeeeeeezzzzzzeeee!
She strings together the same old campaign speech rheteric, but she never really says anything.
Those seekin’ to destroy us…
I’m just a mom (well, then go home and actually BE a mom)
I’m not one of the elite insiders (culture wars & how much is Sarah getting for her book?)
Representing the will of the people….progressing forward….to defend our constitution (Ahhh…Sarah, we have a constitutional lawyer as President–do you even know what the Constitution says?)
You were right…..I need an adult beverage.
@Obamanos — you are filling the void of our dearly departed Ivins!:
” . . .Palin’s ignorant-redneck laden-infuriatin-Obama hatin-bear baitin-red shoe skankin ways.”
“The higher the hair, the closer to God”…I believe that’s why she lops it all up on top of her head like cow manure with a clippy. I firmly believe she is Bible Spice. She uses those evangelical code words like a new recruit of some preacher sporting a bad veneer job and Armani suit.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am rolling with tears streaming down my cheeks! After these speeches you have given us a well-needed, dare I say ESSENTIAL belly laugh!
Obama’s speech was, well after you hear it, you’ll understand. I’m so proud to have him as my President.
AKM, I admire your dedication. I don’t want to ever have the experience of sitting and listening to SP. Just reading about her is near the limit of my tolerance. Than again it was a good excuse for an unscheduled frosty cold Corona w/ some lime and jalapeno stuffed olives …
Seagull Junker Palin Says:
CNN Political Ticker about this – see comments!!
************************************************************************************
I. too, “took one for the team”. Of 301 comments posted to CNN’s Political Ticker about Palin’s speech, only 27 could be judged “positive” in any way, shape or form. Americans, praise the Lord, are NOT STUPID!!.
I think Palin is channeling Norm Crosby, the God of word salads. =)
I tead the transcript of the Cairo speech, I listened to the speech, I read the commentaries of the speech. Yes, President Obama is so refreshing, and intelligent. (It’s on the WhiteHouse dot gov site.)
He gives such thoughtful speeches, only he can top them. We are truly blessed to have him as a world leader.
Above and beyond the call of duty, AKM.
Just got home. I took your suggestion and got a huge glass of vino before I got involved . . . . .
I have said it before—and I will say it again. Sarah Palin is THE most vapid politician (and that’s saying something) that I have ever come across. She said absolutely NOTHING—except for whine about the evil D.C people, the media and you know, everything that wasn’t her. She has to be one of the dumbest politicians that ever broke bread. And she will run for the 2012 republican nomination. But she will be torn apart by the rest (who despise her) and tossed along the side of the road in her red pumps to wait for “the first dude” to come along and pick her up in the Wagoneer.
I have a headache.
AKM–you are truly amazing to have gone to such lengths to bring this to us.
I, too, headed to the dark side last night for Reagan’s talk. Sarah was indeed there in her incoherent, rambling, I’m-a-candidate form. Thanks for the transcription – I was there and I had no idea what she was saying!
I was amused by Reagan’s suggestions to cure the GOP ‘s ills: get with technology (blackberries, etc), find the common ground with adversaries, connect with young people, stand FOR something instead of always being against the other side, etc. I’m sitting there laughing — sounds like pages from Obama’s playbook!
My son asked Reagan what the GOP’s position on gay marriage would ultimately be. Reagan answered that being against gay marriage has both “historical and biblical precedence”. Yeah, we’ve always done it this way and God said we should. Kinda like segregation, huh? He went on to say that gays in CA have all the rights of married people so there’s nothing more to be gained. He continued w the usual scare ‘em tactics: what about men dressing as women using women’s restrooms (he and Prevo must have the same talking points), if we let gays marry we’ll then have to let bisexual 3-somes marry, etc. So, bottom line? I guess they’ll just continue to alienate and discriminate against large sections of the population; they’ll be losing elections for a long time to come!
The dynamics of the GOP party at the moment are a lesson in disarray, disorganization, and dissent. It’s hard to imagine how and when they’ll ever coalesce.
Anyway, another interesting evening in AK land. This event, like Media Malpractice, was poorly attended. How long have these event organizers lived in Alaska? Apparently not long enough to know that you don’t schedule ANYTHING in the summer!
Can someone tell me what this phase means?
political financial academic elite center of power.
As in, I’m not part of the political financial academic elite center of power.
Whew!!!!! Well, I can say for sure that she is not part of the “academic elite”. Did she think that stringing all those words together made her sound intelligent? OMG!!!!!!
Aw, come on AKM you made all that up.
Frigging unbelievable.
I think Sarah should be made to listen to that speech for about 48 hours straight and see how she reacts. Or better yet this speech could replace all the loud music they use on prisoners at GITMO and Abu Ghraib. Prisoners would do anything to make her stop and she’s not against the Geneva Convention. Well she is really, but you know what I mean
Please let her run for POTUS. Please.
Media outlets around world will be having a ball making fun of this idiot 24/7 for two solid years.
Should have also mentioned SP in my A) section in my earlier post above. My “submit” trigger finger got so twitchy after reading AKM’s annotated SP speech, then Gryphen’s “it’s even worse” post here, that I sent it before finishing it up.
AKM, here’s some Stoli vodka for you – this way you really will be able to “see Alaska from my house”, just like SP can…
Having attended last night, what really struck me about Palin was her “us versus them” philosophy in everything – from international affairs, national and state politics to even her extended (outlaw) family. It’s clear that this is not what Americans want to hear. We’re stressed enough and need to hear someone who is gentle on the ears and mind, someone with an optimistic approach, someone with a “we can do this” attitude, someone who brings a smile to our face and some joy to our hearts.
It just struck me.
If Palin were elected POTUS and had fire side chats. All the Democrates would have to do to rebut her is play some of her word salad speeches like this one.
I wonder if you play her speaches backwards if its a coded message from aliens, or satan or that witch doctor maybe.
I seriously think there is a problem with her right/left brain connection cause whatever she’s trying to express, she’s incapable of stating in anything like coherent language use.
Dang! Apparently had too many belts of Stoli myself, that I couldn’t even get the SP quote right!
AKM, here’s some Stoli vodka for you – this way you really will be able to “see Russia from my house”, just like SP can…
The link to the daily Kos is great, and the comments are hilarious. Thanks!
I still have an image of Michael Reagan at Ronald Reagan’s funeral. He was trying to get in every photo & Ron Jr & Patti were doing every thing to keep a healthy distance from him. He is just so horrible. Ron Jr is very sharp & outspoken about the Bush years & stemcell research.
Far from Fenway fan–so glad to know that it wasn’t my imagination, while watching the news last night, that the event looked rather lightly attended! Kind of like the Media Malpractice showing too, huh?
#94 Far from Fenway
Think that’s because she’s a simplistic idiot. After eight years of good guy bad guy politics I think the American people have had enough of obstructive & devisive politics. It’s serves no purpose.
I wish I could embed the sound of my continued laughter right here as long as I could also entwine it, somehow , with the absolute “shock and awe” that I felt while reading this piece. I don’t think I’ve laughed harder nor jave been more horrified since the first time I saw the Tina Fey/Palin “side by side” word salad interview on YouTube.
Your parenthetical “asides” were fabulous but the effect and affect of your insights, clarities and tangents are absolutely medicinal and priceless.
Thank you!
Ok….paging Tina Fey. Ms. Fey? We’re ready for you now! Ms. Fey?!?!?
Ummm..apparently after reading AKM’s transcript in preparation for her starring dead-on impressionistic role, Ms. Fey is having an orgasm-ic relationship with out of control laughter, and needs to stop hyperventilating first (“here’s a paper bag for you, Ms. Fey – that’s right, breathe in and out, in an out…that’s better.”).
And in the meantime, SP will just continue to provide oodles of new material…
I’m beginning to think that certain Alaskans need to be recognized more for their ability to survive SP more than the seasons up there…
When/if GINO decides to appear in public in AK to give a “speech” or whatever that was, WHY NOT have a protest outside? Remember all of those brave AK people, like “Hockey moms Against SP,” “AK Women Against Palin,” the group of Wasilla residents who made those videos about rape kits and abuse of power when she was Mayor? MANY protestors showed up when SP was off running for VP, and I think with the nice weather (and the threat of her running for POTUS in 2012), they would show up again! Bring signs, say your piece, and take it right to her – wherever she appears. I am begging you, brave AK citizens to do this! I would suggest throwing shoes, but she looks delicate and I have no desire to see her hurt – but I desperately want it to sink into her little brain that she is NOT beloved by the massess, in AK or anywhere else (except her sea of pea).
They say what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger–so AKM, you must have the strength of LEGIONS!!!!
Thank you for your asides….I wouldn’t have been able to make it through it all without them.
Since it’s too early to enjoy an adult drink–I think I’ll check out more of Obama’s speech to revive and reinvigorate my afternoon.
I’ve forwarded this to my beloved parents. They are life-long Republicans AND Talivangelical “Christians,” but they sat out the ’08 presidential election when Palin joined the ticket.
Among other things, they will be absolutely HORRIFIED at Palin’s use of the word “screw” (my parents may be Talivangelicals, but they’re hip to the euphemism) and will re-forward the article to their MANY friends who are Palin fans, thereby causing a domino effect of Palin aversion.
AKM, have one for me.
Thanks for the drivel…I couldn’t figure out what she was trying to say several times even after several reads. Thanks for being a good sport! A true muckraker, you are! I just love your articles!
Did you hear President Obama’s awesome, historic speech? Your sister was correct! And they were hollering, “I/we love you,” from the crowd. The bar has been raised high again. Palin doesn’t have a chance, I don’t care how tall those heels are. Too much baggage, that one!!
AKM, you’ve done a great service. Have another well deserved glass!
“Reagan Worst President Ever?”
wasillawarrior Says:
June 4th, 2009 at 1:27 PM
AHHHH..loud screaming..BLAAAAHHH…loud puking… RECALL that lying crazy woman
———————————————–
wasillawarrior, I completely identify. Last night I watched President Obama’s very important speech from Cairo. When I went to bed I was still thinking thinking how lucky (and how pleased) the world is to have him.
Then, this morning I forced myself to read nearly all of Palin’s crap -until I truly felt nauseated.
I’ve decided that November 4, 2008 is the last day of my life that that woman will make me ill. AKM, I’m sorry, I’m calling a cab.
On one of the HP threads related to last night/SP, someone came out with a new meaning for the abbreviated RIP: Recall Impeach Palin.
If not for corruption or ethics or ugly red shoes, then at least for the word salad nonsensical abuse of the English language!
A couple of things are pretty obvious. There are no full length mirrors in the Palin House. Sarah was exposed to pretty, professional apparel for working women during the 2008 campaign, (think clothes now in black plastic bags). None of it rubbed off on her; she didn’t pick up one bit of fashion sense from being exposed to the upper tier of fashion. And she surely didn’t check out her looks in the mirror before she left home.
Ditto for listening to herself. She must have written (or dictated) the speech, and she obviously didn’t run through it a few times, or it might have dawned on her that it didn’t make much sense. Here’s a clue: If the Feds or the Washingtons want to control us, they don’t have to juggle the economy to do it. They’ve been listening to our phone calls; they can read our email. Everyone, put on your tinfoil hats– they could put microchips in our food and control us from the great computer they use to subjugate us. This is just craziness!
The good news is that Sarah doesn’t see how she plays to others. Call it self-confidence, or just being blind to reality, this is a good thing. The best example is when she was found to have ethics violations in Troopergate, and she claimed that she had been cleared. Tone deaf. What’s the good news? It might work in Alaska where she is still powerful. How long is it going to hold up when all of those Republican candidates are lined up for their first debate, and the other candidates being to take shots at her. Can’t blame the media when the other candidates are being competitive. First time on the national scene, she had been “chosen.” This time, she’s going to have to compete with far more skilled politicians; this isn’t going to be “grab the basketball at Ole Wasilla High.”
Amen Sisters ! Palin’s introduction/speech reminded me of what a divide and conquer, hate monger she is. One nut job introducing another.
In contrast President Obama, a true statesmen made me very proud to be an American, his speech was a great step forward in global relations.
Palin is such an embarrassment….who proof reads her stuff, Todd ?
Went back to check on some older posts I did over at HP ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/01/sarah-palin-tiller-murder_n_209896.html ), and found this re: SP’s response to the Tiller/abortion murder. I wrote that I doubted that the “release from SP” was written by her:
“I don’t believe that SP wrote this. It’s too…logical…and is missing also’s, too’s and a whole lot of her ‘code words’.
Someone LOL”d in reply.
I just posted a reply to that:
“Now, I’m positive it’s not SP. Take a read of a partial transcript of SP from last night’s festivities with Mikey Raygun. WARNING: access to strong libations and pillows (to prevent permanent brain damage) is highly recommended.
I think last night’s speechy thingy is proof positive that SP is already availing herself of ghost writers.
PS: AKM, will there be any flyinyoureye graphics for the top titles in the SP book contest???
OK. I. LOVE. MUDFLATS. period
I am on my second reading and still trying to wrap my (yes- elitist-ivy-league educated) brain around whatever it is that she is trying to say. I find it deeply offensive that she lumps all Alaskans under her umbrella of moronic ranting. I did not vote for her. I do not agree with her.
Since this economic crisis began I have been trying to figure it out. I have been reading (oh yes-Alaskans do read) and listening to economic experts who have years of education and experience. Even they have difficulty explaining all of the parts of how we got to where we are now. It is extremely complicated. And, sorry Sarah, it is global. It has taken a long time to get to where we are now. I think that even reaganomics may have had a bit to do with it. She needs to pull her head out of you know where and try actually thinking before she speaks (if that is possible). I think that many people listen to her because she is really a Libertarian/AIP type and their whole mantra is “no government”. She is trying to mix that with neo-con Republican mantras and it always rings false (when you can get far enough past the word salad to do more than say HUH?)
I am not sure what the “political correctness” statement was meant to be about. I usually equate the term PC with being against denegrating people of other races, religions, sexual preferences, etc–not with other political parties or political opinions. I don’t think that I am being politically incorrect when I question the actions, policies or words of elected politicians.
Moving on- we “the people” imposed our will on Washington through Ronal Reagan??? We did? I didn’t. I didn’t vote for him either. Why is she making him out to be the equivalent of JFK? Next she will be comparing him to Lincoln. None of these men were saints for goodness sake. They were all politicians.
I have issues with lobbyists and the havoc that they wreak on government. But I do not claim to be an expert. I do not think that problems in our government can all be fixed by clicking the heels of our ruby red slippers and saying we are just “gonna” oppose everything this adminisatration is trying to do and that will fix it.
We win, they lose??? How about we follow Obama’s lead and try a different way of doing things. How about we think about giving to one of the programs that are trying to build schools in countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan to educate their youth so that they can read their own religious texts without the filter of terrorist teachers. Oh-I forgot-we aren’t into education. People might actually begin to think for themselves and that could be dangerous.
And then there is the stimulus package and fear and more fear and OMG did she actually give a shout out to the brand name of her red pumps??? And war and the “gotcha” media and fear and ethics complaints and dear god-don’t we have some issues that might actually need all of us together to address?
And-oh I forgot- the strings…Take the stimulus money Sarah. We need it to make our homes up here in Alaska more energy efficient. Maybe you don’t, but some of us do. I know that you are the expert on Econ 101, but it just makes sense and I wouldn’t think any less of you (not that I think that is possible).
And if you can’t handle any of this, be BOLD and go back to the hockey rink and please stay there. Better yet, do your job and address the issues in the Alaska that you so often express your love for. If you can’t do that, please shut up.
I give anyone who could sit through that without running screaming from the room credit.
Now I am going to go back to thinking about the people along the Yukon who still need our help.
Thank you, Mudflats for this post. I know I keep saying this but “what in the hell was McCain thinking?” That women is a lunatic ! My 8-yr old niece could write and deliver a much more coherent speech than that garbled mess.
“- but I desperately want it to sink into her little brain that she is NOT beloved by the massess, in AK or anywhere else (except her sea of pea).”
But she is beloved by Sarah and Sarah is all that counts. It’s there in her speech. She just could not stop injecting Sarah, even though she was supposed to be introducing somebody else’s speech.
Sarah’s family
Sarah’s shoes,
Sarah’s ethics
Sarah’s opinions
Sarah’s son
Sarah’s slogans bears, hockey
Sarah’s opinions
@mae lewis (#111):
I really think that it’s blind ambition, with a heavy emphasis on “blind.” This, along with a monumental lack of self-awareness, is the essence of Sarah Palin.
There are some really brilliant replies here today to what must have been a truly dreadful evening for poor AKM. Like everyone else I thank you too for your pain and suffering.
I also listened to President Obama’s speech in Cairo. I believe the world has been presented with a saint. Here was a message filled with goodness; an honorable message of peace and understanding being communicated to other human beings. How can people fail to hear what he is saying to the world? I was filled with pride and joy that he has come to save us all from the other side.
Then this.
I had a thought. Just imagine the above speech being delivered in Cairo. What a thought! But it gives a good indication of where we are now and where we have been for so long.
You know what I found the most frightening of all? That surrounding AKM were people with glossy photos neatly presented in
plastic sleeves in a binder. Scary!
There are already 23 pages of comments at HuffPo, and the story isn’t even as good as yours. The comments are hilarious.
Thanks for sitting in on this. Does Palin know that R Reagan tripled the national debt. We only had $600 billion when Reagan took office. Of the $11 trillion of national debt we have today, 89% was rung up by republican administrations. Bush jr. can take credit for $5 trillion of it.
Was Sarah home schooled in Economics?
Maybe she took a class when Levi and Bristol were studying together during that time when they were both out of school.
I haven’t read the comments, but while I cringe at revealing this about myself, it’s my gut reaction to reading SP’s remarks: the last time I talked as incoherently as Gino, in public, was just after they locked the door and just before the meds took hold. Maybe I’m wrong, and maybe she will never have, putting this kindly, a break with reality (or, screwing political correctness, totally whig out into nutsville), but if she ever does, someone could be hurt, seriously hurt.
What I can’t comprehend is how she actually manages to deliver such heaping helpings of word salad…
This isn’t extemporaneous speech; someone had to type it into a word processor in order to print it out. They probably keep a AK State IT staffer busy 24/7, turning off the auto-spell-and-grammar-check in the Governor’s offices, or else there are smokin’ computer carcasses being hauled out of there on a daily basis…
“HEALING AND RECONCILIATION” You are right!
Do people really want ugly name-calling and demagoguery instead?
OT….ummmmm…Olives…I love green olives….Anyway My FL gov, chain gang charlie crist just sold the entire state out to the (R) related developers. Huge huge legislative disaster. More olives please. AK, you are not alone in terms of elected official malfeasance. Our recently former house speaker is under Federal indictment, my recently former county elections supervisor is under current FBI investigation. When they are done here, we’ll send ‘em your way!
Okay, I admit it right up front. I didn’t have the cojones/ovarios to read the entire transcript. I hit the wine immediately. AKM, I hope you don’t end up with a hangover from all the wine/beer/stoli we have offered you. However, I think just being at ground zero was enough to give anyone a headache.
GAAAAAGGGHHHHH!
“continue to encourage him to continue . . .”
OK, in one of those journalism classes, didn’t they talk about not using the same word repeatedly and especially in one sentence? Apparently she wasn’t paying attention that day.
And “screw political correctness”? Wow. I’m not always a PC fan, but that’s incredible to hear any public official actually say that.
“. . .all we have to do is look back at his record, his economic record and his national security record to know that his ideas were right. It was common sense conservativism.”
No, Reagan’s ideas and policies weren’t right then, nor are they now. Iran contra? Bad policy and ethicallly wrong. I hated the Reagan years almost as much as I hated the recent Bush years.
“. . . and forget the political corectness that makes one guard your conversation, and couch our words so cautiously that they lose meaning, and we lose effectiveness, . . .”
So, we’re back to complaining about political correctness. I wonder if she knows that means she shouldn’t be pushing her religious views on everyone else? Guess not, thinking back over past speeches. (Don’t get me wrong, I don’t object to her being a Christian, though I’m not sure she really knows what that means. But, as a Christian myself, I do know there are times when it’s not appropriate to voice things from that perspective.) And do her words ever have any meaning or effectiveness? So, that’s really a non-issue where Palin is concerned.
My other thought is that Michael Reagan’s head must have been spinning about this time. Usually a speaker makes some reference to the previous speaker. But how in the world when anyone do that with this word salad, which is actually giving this speech more credit for organization than it deserves.
As for Michael Reagan: JFK as a conservative republican? Is he nuts, or does he just not remember history? I was 12 when Kennedy became president, and that’s never a description I would use.
Last night we had dinner with our friend who is heading off to Africa with the Peace Corps. She’s been living in Florida and when she mentioned her upcoming plans to someone in a local bar, they said something about “oh, getting out of the country now that Obama has been elected” and her reaction was “Are you kidding me? Now Americans can actually travel again! The rest of the world likes us again!”
AKM, once again, thanks for sticking it out as long as you did. I don’t think I could have even made it through all of Sarah Palin’s nonsense. And Michael Reagan has always had some serious problems.
forget the Word Salad, I just can’t get over the pre-teen/teenage snottiness that she spouted in a public speech and was PROUD of it, LOOKING for affirmation from all and sundry.
***sigh***
Someone help me out here. What has Michael done? Any claim to fame other than his father? Why is he an expert in economic policy? Is he just a nutwing speaker/writer?
I really don’t know.
Another note. The MSM slam was….errr…interesting. Especially since they are all either owned by Republicans and are large corporations who support Republicans.
Yet, she STILL does NOT get it?
Oh, and I’m not a drinker, but I got just a few sentences in and stopped to open a bottle of wine. It did help, I have to admit. Thanks for the warning, AKM.
“So I join you in speaking up and asking the questions and taking action, and here at home in my beloved Alaska I just say, politically speaking, if I die, I die.”
Sounds like some foreshadowing, and she knows she and her Franco Sarto shoes are “going down like a cheap hooker”, to recall one of my favorite Mudflats commenter quotes from before the election.
[Ironically, my sister and mom and I went to see the Magna Carta, on of the original 4 copies left of this the initial governing document at the Reagan Library this past Monday. My father said he would never step foot in there again after he, my mom and I went to see the Emancipation Proclamation there. The security and other stuff during the Emancipation Proclamation was psycho, and Dad said never again. He changed his registration from R to I before this last election due to our former chimp of a President, but Dad had been an R since 1969.]
Wow, it is painful trying to understand Palin’s nonsense. If her solution is waiting to listen to Ronald Reagan she has a long wait. And Micheal Reagan couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag with an exit sign.
I didn’t like Reagan and was pissed when they built the Reagan Library in the county I grew up in, but let’s face it, he spoke in English.
Bragging up the bacon….more like hurling the bacon. The contrast between her ‘speech’ and Obama’s speech in Cairo is … words fail me. Thank God she didn’t end up as VP
My overall impression of this speech is that Palin (like the GOP, in general) has her back to a wall. She sounds defensive, victimized, and rebellious, all at once.
Incidentally, those red shoes function anthropologically similar to the swollen, red bottoms of female baboons in estrus…a nice, unequivocal signal to the male baboons. She may be loudly eschewing “political correctness”….but she’s towing the line of “biologic correctness” slavishly.
In case the audience missed the anthropological message, Palin obligingly reinforced it by saying “Screw political correctness.” The sad part is that she missed the message, too. She thinks she is just being a BOLD li’l rebel.
Palin will be chewed up and spit out if she tries campaigning nationally ever again. Boldness doesn’t hack it without intelligence, political savvy, and some degree of personal insight….none of which she has demonstrated.
Pathetic and depressing speech.
My apologies but I just couldn’t make it through her whole speech. The WS (word salad) was hurting my head. I did read through all your (comments) and they were really funny just reading them without all the rest!
Wonderful, wonderful posted article. I commend the moderator for having the stomach to sit through that event. Nonetheless, you can really learn a lot about a person by listening to them speak in public. Our gal Sarah didn’t disappoint. Crazy as ever.
@132 (Lee323):
I’ve been fascinated with her from a purely psychological perspective since her speech at the RNC. (Don’t get me wrong: I believe she’s a VERY dangerous person, largely due to her narcissistic grandiosity and unaccountable ambition). I have a number of friends in the mental health profession (CSWs, psychologists and psychiatrists) who are similarly fascinated and tell me that SP could benefit from YEARS of therapeutic intervention. Not that she’ll EVER get it — just sayin’.
I believe you have truly nailed it, Lee323. I pity the poor baboons who have been compared to SP.
Wow! I’m running out of ways to express my feelings on the idiocy of this woman and her immature and self righteous rantings. I guess I’ll go back to my submission in the Book Title Contest, and that was “Pulp Diction”…pure and simple. What happened to her glossy, well worded language we all saw in the press releases of the past few days? Did her word muse take the day off?
Do you think Reagan was going OMG, what is she doing? He didn’t even acknowledge her after that bizarre introduction. Even as bizarre as he is, he seems to think she’s a nutjob.
Good job AKM, Shannyn and Gryfen !! I don’t know how you got through that without laughing. Seriously!
Oh, I forgot to say how much I laughed at your narrative AKM. Absolutely hilarious and spot on!
…I can see that this could be another one of those record breaking post…THANKS …AKM
I’m pasting it into a document so I can have a few laffs heading home on the train…
Doesn’t it seem Sarah is condemning herself? She is the one who wants the government to take away a woman’s freedom, human right to health care and privacy. She is the one who wants government to force her personal religious beliefs on everyone.
Hey Seattle Fan – it’s my opinion that the last 2 reasonably written press statements were written by Bill McAllister. As his going away present.
Her Twitter tweets are now beginning to sound more lucid in comparison.
In case you missed AKM’s little note on the bottom of the page…. this story is on the Huffpo in it’s entirety. remember to post some comments there as well and buzz it up for the Huffpo readers.
Wow – all I could think about as i read your transcript was how I had talked with my History/Civics teacher sister today – who was raving about Obama’s speech today (“thats someone who did not sleep through History class”). So perfect ending to your incredible endurance tale. I will no go cleanse my brain and listen to it.
Sarah Palin just “screwed the pooch” !!!!!!!!!!
After reading Shannons take on the 2 speeches,I noticed something she said and looked it up. Me thinks GINO has failed to check out Michael Reagan.
The one she shouts is so wonderful and proclaims how great he is.
His main claim to fame is that on tape,on air,on his own talk show,he advocting putting grenades up the butts of babies whose mothers gave them names he did not like,and blowing them up for their first birthday present !!!!!!!!!!!!! Check the link below.. He has called on air for the babies to be murdered,their mothers to be murdered,and for an anti Iraq war activist to be murdered.
Wait till these clips get shopped around and associated with Palin!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntz7SWm-xWo
I just had my husband read this, and when he was through making faces and laughing I asked him what he read into this. Did he think it sounded like she was planning to run for president or (as I think) did it sound as if she was desperate and realized she doesn’t really have a chance? His conclusion: it’s impossible to read anything into this because it’s impossible to read period. I applaud AKM for being able to sit this out. Reading it literally made my head hurt.
Does anyone else find it suspicious that she gave this speech at around the same time Obama gave his? I also remember her bragging about appointing people to the Alaska Supreme Court at around the same time Obama had his appointment to make. It seems like she is furiously jealous of him and tries to counter the attention he rightfully garners.
I look forward to seeing the Pres Rep candidates beat her up verbally during debates and interivews and they will and she will so look like the silly hillbilly that she is. She’s going to get a big a$$ whoopin’.
And that’s if Word Salad Palin can even get that far, which I don’t think she can.
What I gleaned from that speech is……well…..nothing. It was all negativity…..like divisiveness, fear tactics, whining about being disliked because of her stands against stimulus. And, of course, her reminiscing the old days. Lazy politicians don’t want to be challenged to do the changing themselves, they prefer to pontificate on old past glory days, accusing the new guy for all the national debt, and blah blah blah.
And, she’s a proud Alaska Hockey Grandma, not mom anymore. Pretty soon she’s gonna have to fess up to it.
True to form, she offers no real substance in her glorification of the Reagan era. She simply listens to her ‘contemporaries’ in the corridors and parrots the hushed and self-righteous superiority complex of the party’s most influential actor in American history. Does she even know why she is hailing old Ronnie? Does she really know what policies he instituted? Does she know what kind of debt he “progressed” under his presidency?
Much like her ironic anti-choice (for others) stand, she uses her first amendment right (and power of the Governor’s office) to tell dissentors to sit down and shut up. She tells her own “people” not to waste her and the State’s dime in attempts to hold her accountable.
I would never call her smart, but I don’t make the mistake of thinking she is stupid. One thing is for certain, she is a very, very dangerous person. Bush/Cheney in a skirt and Franco Sarto heels is entirely appropos. The damage she has done on a Silla and State level is evident, imagine the proportions on a national and world-wide level?
I hate that we have to worry about her. I hate that this emotionally immature mean-girl is in a position to be a threat to the general public.
I remember being pissed off at Reagan because his “Reaganomics” figuratively booted all the mentally ill out of the taxpayer-supported mental hospitals, and we had the first huge onslaught of homeless insane people on the streets, made only worse by the Mariel boat lift. He oversaw this poorly executed plan first in California when he was governor in the 70s, then as President, starting in ’81.
What happened on the national level was (quoting a passage at Snopes.com), “the community-based settings that were envisioned as the alternative to institutional care did not materialize, due to the same budget pressures” [inflation, Reaganomics, and dwindling entitlement funds due to tax cuts].
There’s your smart small-government plan-ahead Republican administration. It was a social disaster then; it was a social and ethical disaster the past 8 years, and if anyone ever lets a set of Republican nitwits like Sarah Palin and like thinkers in Michael Reagan, Michele Bachmann, and Liz Cheney get their hands on national policy…cue the music from “Exodus”, because I’m leaving!
I agree that she is not stupid. However, her lack of true worldliness and refined education is immediately apparent to the casual listener. I simply do not see how she could possibly compete on a level playing field in debate format with the likes of Romney or Huckabee.
re mommom, seattlefan comments
I feel sick. Somebody has posted Reagan making “those statements” in a video on YouTube.
My gawd, I hope that man has no children! The thought of any child being exposed to that much … it wasn’t even hatred. I don’t know what it was, but it was bone-chilling.
It’s hard for me to understand how that kind of thinking can even exist. Period.
lynnrockets,
she wouldn’t “debate” anyone… She would “say what everyone wants to hear…” Just like that first debate.
I agree, Nan, but you can only get away with that for awhile.
Congrats on surviving that event, AKM!
SP’s speech proved such a profound level of ignorance and no knowledge of or research on her subject matter. Reagan and GWB — both Republicans — drove up debt to historical heights during their presidencies. The nuclear buildup during the arms race that ultimately broke the back of the Soviet Union was both frightening and phenomenally expensive! Education tooks big hits as well under both presidents, and healthcare became unaffordable to a record number of Americans under GWB. So, SP’s talk of learning fiscal responsibility from Reagan and the bold Republicans in Washington is pretty much horsesh*t, as is her dedication to the children of this country (let alone her own state).
I hate the IDEA of the Stimulus Bill , and I hate the IDEA of the government bailing out these huge corporations, however it had to be done to avoid a full-blown Depression. The average American really doesn’t understand just how dire the economic situation was. The seizing up of the credit markets was making it near-impossible for businesses to function. If the world’s governments didn’t step in to start guaranteeing bank loans AND inject a huge chunk of money into the system FAST, the global economy would likely have crashed, with catastrophic and very long-term repercussions. You can’t imagine the number of companies that were at risk of collapsing. Educated Republicans (unlike simpleton SP) objected not to the Stimulus itself, but to the extraneous crap written into the bill. But the situation was so dire that something had to be done. The economy was hemmoraging — anyone with any real understanding of what was going on knew that the bleeding had to be stopped to save the “patient.” The Stimulus bill was the bandage, but it was damned inappropriate and irresponsible IMO to cram other things into that bill that were not immediately relevent to stopping the bleeding. That bill should have been focused 100% on the crisis at hand, so it could be passed immediately. This kind of BS needs to stop on BOTH sides of the political aisle.
People forget, conveniently, imho, the real record of Ron Reagan.
They forget that he often negotiated with Tip O’Neil, then Speaker of the House.
They forget that SSI paycheck deductions were increased under Reagan. SSI, btw, is a “socialist” program.
They forget that Mr. Nation Security, aka Ron Reagan, did next to nothing to address the murderous attack on the Marines in Beirut. By those darn terrorists!
They forget that Reagan paid his respect to the SS buried at Bitburg.
They forget the invasion of Grenada.
They forget the massive federal deficits – the first of their kind in the history of the US.
They forget that Reagan essentially denied the emergence of the AIDS crisis – a denial that resulted in the early deaths of thousands of productive Americans.
They forget that he was so concerned about “our kids” that he tried to get ketchup reclassified as a vegetable.
They forget that Reagan was hampered by the affects of dementia during a good portion of his 2nd term – a time during which many decisions were affected by… lobbyists!
They forget that Reagan wasn’t about hard work; rather, he was all about those sound bites.
I could go on, but I think ya alls get my point: Sarah Palin is full of a bucket of amish road apples!!
Yup – IF she makes it to a debate , Romney will go for the jugular. She’ll be but a quivering bowl of jello when he is done.
“It’s all really so backwards and skewed as to sound like absolute nonsense when some of this new economic policy is explained…”
____
Sarah Palin could have all this explained to her but I highly doubt that someone who gets a D+ in entry-level economics would understand (or possesses the capacity to understand) anything related to economics – especially complicated economic policy. Does she even know the difference between macro and micro economics?
That’s quivering jello.
Right as opposed to left, correct?
His ideas were right, not left. It was right, not left then. It is right, not left now.
In education we’re taught to use the word….correct.
The rest of that word salad reflects a pretty coed that must have slept with a few professors in order to attain that bachelor’s degree.
Notice she managed to get an “all about me” in there with her kid in Iraq. Bet he appreciates the demotion from son to kid.
What would she know about Economics 101. She hasn’t even got a good grasp of American Government or Civics 101. Oh, and there’s that socialism. From someone running the most socialist state in the union. Definitely flunked government.
And I guess we know what newspapers she’s not reading since she doesn’t know the outcome of that little court case in South Carolina. She actually used the words incompetent and unethical in the same sentence? With “states” as a substitute for “Republican Governors of which I am one, also, too.”
“Franco Sarto red high heels”. Okay. Product placement on the heels of the Arctic Cat decision. Is she getting kickbacks on the shoes?
Reagan was as dumb as a fence post. He sold weapons to Iran. He sold WMDs to Iraq. He funded, trained, and equipped the Muhajeen which included Bin Laden. He created record deficits while spending unprecedented amounts on military while Russia was going bankrupt. Savings & Loans through corruption and deregulation went bankrupt and needed tax payer bailout. Like Bush he had his own illegal war in South America.
Yup – IF she makes it to a debate , Romney will go for the jugular. She’ll be but a quivering bowl of jello when he is done.
It would be watchable only if Mitt threw her into a bowl of jello… and then jumped in after her.
Austintx, lol your incorrigible! lol!
Good lord!!! My eyes, my eyes!!!
Make it red jello and I’m there !!
This definition from http://bitterbierce.blogspot.com kinda fits the Sarah Palin who made the comments, above:
DEMONOMANIA, n. 2009 Update: A psychiatric condition which causes in the sufferer the delusion of external control by infernal agents, rather than by self-delusion.
“Terrorists are still dead set against us, and are set on destroying Israel, and against our freedoms, against our security and I’ve got a kid over there fighting for our country and our country’s freedom right now. It is war over there so it will not be war over here, and it had better still be our mission that we win, they lose! ”
Assuming that this is verbatim transcription of her words ,,, YIKES!
1. mention of Isael a nonsequiter
2. then you say you have a kid ‘over there’ – in Israel?
3. Um … it would be a little more respectful and professional and dare I say personal? – if you said ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ instead of ‘kid’
4. The ‘war over there so not war over here” thing – this is an incredible charged comment (could go on but too much wine and not enough time before hubby gets home!)
5. Sarah Palin can only reduce things into terms she understands, such as Basketball game. Someone wins, someones loses, that’s that.
Hate to tell ya Sarah, but people actually want in a president someone who can go beyond the “we win, you lose ” mentality.
We’d actually like a president (since American presidents are considered the “leader of the free world”) to actualy have some knowledge about what life is like in other places of the world!
And demonstrate some respect for that!
Any jerkoff that talks about putting grenades in baby asses and blowing them up maybe should have been aborted? How is M Reagan different than Osama bin Laden after saying something like that?
Incidentally, I called my parents to say hi and mom said “We’re watching Rachel Maddow” (mom REALLY likes her!). “OK, Mom, I’ll call you back when it’s done!”
Reagan was as dumb as a fence post. He sold weapons to Iran. He sold WMDs to Iraq. He funded, trained, and equipped the Muhajeen which included Bin Laden. He created record deficits while spending unprecedented amounts on military while Russia was going bankrupt. Savings & Loans through corruption and deregulation went bankrupt and needed tax payer bailout. Like Bush he had his own illegal war in South America.
——————————————-
That’s the way I remember it also too. What strikes me as funny is that Mrs Palin wouldn’t probably have a clue what went on in the Reagan years, given she spent those years traveling all over the US trying to get enough education credits for a piece of paper headed BS.
I betcha the only President Reagan she knows of is the 2009 make-over Reagan.
Wait a minute….”Rick Rydell started by quoting John Locke”…the guy from “Lost?” I’d throw my plastic cow right then and there….(just kidding, but not about the cow – AKM you’re made of sterner stuff than me).
this conservative woman got through about 3 lines of Sarugh. After a trip to the loo to toss out the fine dinner I just shared with my famiy, I decided not to venture further, for fear the lunch I had might make an appearence.
Why do you folks in AK put up with this bimboinchief? And the people! Phew! Imagaine. They live amoung us!
You certainly have more courage than I do. I attended a John Birch Society meeting back in the 1970s as a photographer accompanying a reporter. The police took our pictures and so did the Birchers.
FWIW, in case it has not been mentioned (I have not read all of the comments), This week Paul Krugman had an interesting take on the Raygun legacy and Raygun’s impact on our nations current financial crisis, see:
Aussie Blue Sky
That is exactly right about Reagan being
“dumb as a fence post. He sold weapons to Iran. He sold WMDs to Iraq. He funded, trained, and equipped the Muhajeen which included Bin Laden. He created record deficits while spending unprecedented amounts on military while Russia was going bankrupt. Savings & Loans through corruption and deregulation went bankrupt and needed tax payer bailout. Like Bush he had his own illegal war in South America.”
Amazing how soon people forget. There were allegations that he was already into the throws of Alzheimers toward the end of his presidency and that Nancy was pretty much making the calls for him. Remember all the Nancy hate back then? Her consulting astrologers for important decisions, etc.
My how time flies, and how fast legacies are remade; and how quickly people forget.
On Huffington post there was an hilarious comment that went something like : “We win, you lose, look at me in my bright red shoes” I’ll bet lynnerockets can do something with this.
Always way late in reading/posting, but … I See Villages, #162, commented
“I hate that we have to worry about her. I hate that this emotionally immature mean-girl is in a position to be a threat to the general public.”
Exactly! Listening to or reading her speeches is like … no, can’t compare it with even junior-high students–they make more sense than she does.
But OH … MY … GOD … The thought that this woman who cannot make even a simple speech that is grammatical or makes any sense (without a script write or teleprompter or ear-bud–the latter which few ever noticed) could have been our VP or even president, is 100% frightening! Our standing in the world, such as it is now, would have bottomed out and we’d have been the laughing stock of the entire world … at the very least.
Betting you that McCain about pops a blood vessel every time this poor delusional woman gives a public speech that is written verbatim in any publication–because their choice for his running mate was/is a sad reflection upon the intelligence and sensibilities of himself and the GOP. The saddest thing is that yes, she is a dangerous, as well as mentally-deranged woman.
I am so sorry for you in Alaska … especially for those sad Palin supporters who apparently do not have the common sense (or decency) to be appalled at her behavior and her very flawed personality.
Question: Wasn’t Michael Reagan the son that Ronald Reagan had pretty much banished from the family, before Reagan’s presidency? Or am I thinking of another one?
Sarah is pretty wacky and there aren’t enough wackos to get her elected. Not even close. I think she’s trying to replicate her “Pitbull with lipstick” speech at the RNC – hence the black dress, pearls, and Dorothy’s red shoes. At that speech she came across as “Gidget addressing the Reichstag,” as aptly put by one writer.
She has unbridled ambition and nothing behind that.
Hmm. Iran-Contra. HUD. EPA. Savings and Loan Bailout. etc etc. And lets not forget about all the people who served in his administration who were convicted. Some of whom ended up in the W administration. And the over 250 dead Marines in Beirut, and the alleged use of drug sales to supply the Contras and on and the invasion of Grenada to wag the dog over the Beirut bombing and on and on and on. Michael Reagan, Grover Nordquist, etc have done a good job of rewriting history regarding Reagan’s presidency. We need to stop the Bushies from doing the same thing and rewriting history as they have already started trying to do. Lets not forget Michael Reagan tried to use his connections to get defense contracts when Ronald was President and his own Father took him to task. Now he is making a living off his fathers rewritten legacy. Oh, and as far as Sarah’s hard to follow, more non-sensical than sensical statement and the fact that I wasted part of my life not just reading it but rereading it to see if it made any more sense the second time (it didn’t): “Darn you Mudflats” I will never get that time back.
Her lucky shoes, maybe? She’s the only woman I’ve ever seen who would wear red shoes with a black outfit … Well, I used to see a few women on the streets late at night wearing things like that … I think we used to call them Ladies of the Night?
Sarah seems to be pulled between wanting/needing to be a professional and successful business woman/politician but still wanting to be a Hot 20-something year old chick–Like, ‘Look at me, I’m still desirable.’
Too funny, bucfan … ““Darn you Mudflats” I will never get that time back.” I did the same thing, but only read some paragraphs (one of which I think was actually a long, looong sentence) over again trying to make sense of them.
This speech, and others I’ve heard her make, are what makes me wonder just who has been doing all the governor’s writing … Most people write in the same vein in which they speak …
another good post on GINO’s speech, namely the already-discredited “fight them over there so we don;t have to fight them here.” SP is waaaaaay behind the times – she could not tell Katie Couric what she reads because – she doesn’t.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/6/5/738887/-Poor-Sarah-Palin,-Cheney-killed-her-favorite-talking-point.
Maybe someone could get her to click those red shoes together three times while saying, “There’s no place like Mars. There’s no place like Mars. There’s no place like Mars.”
OMG – I will be so happy come 2010 and she will not run for gov – she will try to go national – and it will be so ridiculous – but we will get a gov who is intelligent and we will sit by the campfire and say “How did that ever happen?” We learned something and we will never let that happen again. We will have finally woke up and things will change. Hopefully too much damage will not have been done.
After discovering that the name of the shoes was “Talk” (thanks to a very astute Mudflats reader!), I ran over to Zappo.com to see what other “names” this designer Franco Sarto offers. The list of shoes that *could* have been her choice instead of “Talk” is both hysterical and ironic. Here’s a sampling of other choices (red or otherwise):
Flighty (hear, hear!)
Jury ( I wish!)
Ability (hahahahaha)
Zany
Hack (nuf said)
Deer (but no Moose)
Mad (as a hatter)
Native (Tahd probably named this one)
Occult (witches, anyone?)
Irony (LOL)
Comic (relief?)
If I rolled my eyes any harder, they’d fall out of someplace else.
Thank you for the transcript AKM and for the comic relief.
“So we need the Reagans of the world today to remind us of truth.”
Yes, yes we do…..Ron Reagan (Jr.) will do nicely.
I am still overcome by the sheer self-less genius of the speech by Mr. Barack Hussein Obama, our great President of the United States of America.
His speech represents a defining moment in world history by forging a grand opportunity (and perhaps the last real opportunity) to bring a sustainable peace to the descendants of Abraham.
In contrast, the babbling biatch Palin is nothing but hot air compared to our courageous Barack Hussein Obama, who has dedicated and risked his life’s work in this challenge issued to the world to wage an impassioned peace — knowing full well what the personal consequences might be for he and his family.
Palin is worth no more than the shekels she gains from her Arctic Cat naughty monkey slut-strutting.
President Obama is a truly great man! A truly great President! His middle name Hussein will be remembered with pride, above and beyond any tarnish that a sadistic dictator might have cast upon it, and the name Obama will overshadow any legacy of Ronnie Reagan through the ages!
The legacy of the word “Palinize” will remain in the vernacular as an expression meaning something similar to urinating on an electric fence while wearing red platform hooker heels.
Is the name of the shoe suppposed to make them look better? I think she meant to say they were HoochieNana Heels. Apparently no one let her know patent leather is so……….hoochie.
Every time I look at those silly red shoes in the story I immediately think of some 16 yo Girls hanging out at the mall and talking about High School ‘ girly stuff’.
That or some street Ho in some booty shorts strutting.
sarah palin is all pro birth. After that it is all down hill for the babies. look at the way she treated baby Trig. He was a fashion accessory, like a watch or ear rings. That reagan is very sick also too.
I would just like to state for the record that I don’t think that Sarah would be all that offended or outraged at Michael Reagan’s wanting to place grenades into the rectums of little children, as long as those children are “terrorists”. That would make it different for her because naturally they hate us, even as babies they are hating us and are going to grow up to hate us and want to come here and kill us also too.
Next I want to give a huge shout out to AKM, Shannyn and Gryphen for sitting through that. I forced myself to sit and listen to the audio of it (heck if those 3 can do it in person, I can listen from the comfort of my own home…not to mention that I can stop and go refill the drink when I can’t take it any longer). HOLY CRAP!!! Word Salad isn’t even a good description. That is buffet of nonsensical ideas and comments put together. I have to say I find it difficult to believe that she got a degree in Journalism. What she lacks in intellect and understanding she makes up for in enthusiasm that’s for sure.
She is definitely and “all about me” person and it shows every time she gives a speech.
She’s still calling him “First Dud”????
How is it she thinks that is in any way, shape or form acceptable?
Can you see her sitting at a fancy dinner with super important folks all gathered around and she says, “Mr. Super Important Guy/Gal, I’d like for you to meet the First Dud of the USA”.
It makes me cringe to think THAT ONE would be representing our country in front of the world leaders.
She doesn’t know when to stop.
Compare and contrast:
Palin: “Our government is supposed to be working for us, we are not to be working for our government.”
and
“It is war over there so it will not be war over here, and it had better still be our mission that we win, they lose!”
JFK: “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.”
SP: “. . . when he fought socialism and any sort of tyranny that he knew would ruin us. . . .” Because, I suppose, there is the tyranny that is actually good for us, and he didn’t fight that!
OMG, this woman is too stupid to breathe. Whatever journalism school was foolish enough to issue a degree to our hapless shoe hustler should have it’s federal funding stripped immediately. Because THAT’S real government waste.
Maybe I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer here so someone can help me out with this.
The POTUS is pretty much the Grand Poobah of “The Feds.” (do people really say “the feds” other than in movies?)
SP HATES “The Feds.”
SP wants to be POTUS (who we already determined is Supreme Ruler of “The Feds.”)
Why would you want to be the epitome of the thing you hate so much. I really don’t get it.
@56 degreesN: Believe me SP offered favors to the professors . Somewhere they were ethical teachers who refused to pass her to graduate because of her poor academix pweformance. and many turned her down so that is why it took her 5 schools to get a degree. she had to search for a lonely mark (Professors) Somewhere across those five schools she was able to manipulate unsuspecting horny professors to give her enough passing grades to get a degree in journalism. Believe me she will barter.
Apparently she even plagiarizes the good Queen Esther.
With Queen Esther….it’s drama.
WIth Palin….it’s melodrama:
My good servant, wipe my fevered brow….as I draw my final labored breaths before “shuffling off this mortal coil” of pain and suffering in my Franco Sarto red high heels….. A golden chariot drawn up through the clouds by multitudes of cherubim and seraphim enraptured by my bold sacrifice. Hark! Faint strains. Ah, music in the spheres…singing harmony on my boldness. She was bold. Yes, bold. So bold. And unappreciated. Amen…..and screw my enemies….who were not bold.
Yeppers.
Kindof funny his brother Ron Reagan endorced Obama
I have a feeling that “screw” is going to be added to the lexicon.
“Also, too, screw you.” YCMTSU.
You are a brave soul. Thanks for enduring this and snarking so perfectly. Reading this I was reminded of that scene from Elizabeth where Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth says that she will let Robert Dudley live “to remind me of how close I came to danger.” Hearing the Wasilla WhatTheF*ck spout her gibberish reminds us of just how close we came to not just danger, but outright catastrophe.
Just finished this and words fail me. I would have needed much more than a glass of wine after that, assuming that I wouldn’t have snapped about a third of the way thru it.
Sarah Palin is an ignorant twit. Suck it Sarah!
Palin said……we need Michael Reagan to keep on fighting for our freedoms, for our country and what we’re being fed today, it seems, is a steady diet of selected misrepresented news.
Two comments/questions:
How exactly is Michael Reagan fighting for our freedoms?
Is Palin talking about Fox news here?
(this comment is beyond stupid considering her choice of media—-
Fox and the Christian Broadcasting Network).
As my Irish friends would say, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph!” I think she broke all salad sentence records this time. Not only 55 but a 89 word sentence. After all of the cleaned up press releases recently, this speech really proves how idiotic, ignorant and stupid this person is. I can’t imagine anyone like her could ever be considered for any political position, let alone president or VP of the USA. Unbelievable that Ronald Reagan would want to be associated with her. At least he has some intelligence and surely must see her nonsense. He must have suffered some embarrassment following that jibber jabber.
Does anyone think she planned this speech to try and upstage the President? Wasn’t this just supposed to be an introduction, but she turned it into a campaign speech?
In her mind, she probably thinks she can upstage President Obama, when if fact, all she does is show her stupidity.
Isn’t his the second time in the last month or so where she had a speech the same day as President Obama?
Correction: I meant Michael not Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan is a democrat and supports Obama.
@ Valley Independent # 212
Wow….amazing comparison.
@greatgrammy1: Ronald Reagan is DEAD. Michael Reagan is the adopted son of Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman who were divorced and Michael went to boarding school. He is clearly NOT a beloved member of the Nancy and Ron Jr. segment of that family.
Great job!
“Terrorists are still dead set against us, and are set on destroying Israel, and against our freedoms, against our security and I’ve got a kid over there fighting for our country and our country’s freedom right now. It is war over there so it will not be war over here, and it had better still be our mission that we win, they lose!”
Well, of course they are, silly! Terrorists will ALWAYS be contrary! That’s why they call them TERRORISTS.
What freedoms, exactly, do we stand to lose in their beef with Israel? How is that affecting our security here?
When did she send a baby goat to Israel? ME ME ME!
Newsflash: Her “kid” is not fighting for our country’s freedom. There is no way in the world that this war is going down in history as anything but a pre-emptive war against a nation who did NOTHING to us! Our freedom has never been in jeopardy by Iraq and what we’re doing in Iraq doesn’t change that.
And wasn’t she bragging about how we’re building schools “over there” during the campaign? I remember distinctly thinking, “Why the heck are we building schools in Iraq when our own are crumbling?” She seemed to think it was really great. OK, so we’re building schools… how is that saving our country’s freedom?
How is she going to measure a “win”? What do we get when we “win”? Land? Sovereign Domain? Complete obliteration of Iraq into a sandbox”? And how do we benefit from those things?
How is she going to measure a “loss”? Zero population in Iraq? Complete deference to the U.S.? Complete destruction of infrastructure that we are then responsible to rebuild? How does their “loss” benefit us?
What does she MEAN by “win” and “lose”? As far as I can tell, we LOSE people, respect of the world, cash, etc. every single day this stupid war goes on. I have no idea in the world what we POSSIBLY have to “win” in this.
Republicans are so war happy, they can’t even define a win or loss. They just want to go out and play with their guns, intimidating innocents, and putting more notches in their holsters.
Our “freedom” is not being fought for “over there”. She’s an idiot to think so. Our “freedom” was won long, long ago on our own soil.
four words:
narcissistic grandiosity and unaccountable ambition
One poster said this and I think it sums it all up.
And then, this little gem: “We won the one where I show up at the Iron Dog because it’s freezing cold and I’m wearing my warm Arctic Cat coat, and a charge is levied against me for wearing the logo on the coat, but we won so that’s cool.”
“Freezing cold”? And yet your jacket is unzipped, no gloves, no hat, and no fog coming out of your mouth when you speak?
And Piper in the EXACT same billboard as Mommy?
And you don’t have a more neutral item to keep you warm and show some diplomacy (non-favoritism of commercial vendors involved in sponsorships) in your position?
She “won”. She evidently “won” another pile of legal bills, according to reports. Luckily, she has that big, fat book advance to pay it off!
What else did she “win”? The absolute conviction of her constituents that her administration is completely corrupt, as is the whole ethics grievance system?
I can not wait until her next campaign. It will be the most amusing thing in the world to watch – doesn’t even matter if it’s for POTUS or GOV. Anyone running against her will nail her to the wall and I will laugh and laugh until milk comes out of my nose and I pee a little in my pants.
PS: It wouldn’t occur to her to have Dud find a job to support the Klan so she can stay home and take care of the little ones, would it? Trig needs special attention… why doesn’t she want to give that to him? And why doesn’t Dud work?
Someone was asking earlier for a picture of the offending shoes (I think it was on this thread). Anyway, here’s a link:
Carla: “Have you ever heard the phrase ‘delusions of grandeur?”
Janitor: “I believe I coined that phrase.”
I praise you Shannon for being able to catch that mumbo jumbo of words that SP says, I am still confused, I do not know what she was trying to say.
I seriously think that someone needs to nominate her for the show “What NOT to wear”. Can you imagine Stacy and Clinton with some of her outfits? Does she think that just because a couple of old white guys think she looks hot in red shoes that she should wear them with EVERY outfit?
This woman is a total disaster.
Thanks a lot, Sarah Palin. Now I have to burn my Franco Sarto high heels…
Red Shoe Diaries:
I could possibly forgive or maybe understand (arm being twisted very hard) the wearing of the red shoes on Memorial Day given that 1) it is a red, white and blue day; and two, it is a holiday and presumably your day off( white jean ?jacket is also a seriously questionable choice… did she borrow that from Williow?) I can not forgive or understand her “ho-in” out to make a public presumable early “stump” speech in those red s-ho-es. They are laughably horrible and the label must say Candies.
To poster who thought she wanted to show up Prez Obama…I doubt she knew where he would be or what he would be doing.
samper, I think I read that he has one of those “one week on, one week off” jobs out in the boonies. Then again, my track record today isn’t what it could be, so take that with a large grain of salt.
Let it run – I’d bet money that she knows exactly where he is. With the exception of the Alfalfa Club dinner, she has avoided contact with the “powers that be” (mainstream GOP, mostly) preferring to be the big fish in whatever small pond calls her name and says “pretty please?”
Ouch. That was my meow moment for the day (heading to corner). Sigh.
Does that confirm that he is a member of the GOP?
___________
The picture forming in my mine is that he’s more appropriately a member of NAMBLA if he’s into that sort of thing.
Eye on You; you nailed it about the Esther verse. It’s been rumored that some ministers had suggested that SP is a representation of the biblical Esther. The whole story has to be taken into context. Not just one verse (where she sacrifices angering the King, and possibly dying because of it, but makes her request to save the Jews anyway). It’s a favorite biblical story because of the emphasis on a young beautiful woman who would be willing to sacrifice her life for the good of her people.
How can a segment of the christian community compare this with Queen Sarah? SP takes and takes and gives back nothing, it would seem. She rebels, too concerned with what people think, has no thick enough skin to be in political service, she whines, complains, seems to love being “misunderstood”. In fact, Queen Esther if I remember correctly, had the 300 or 400 Haman (bad guy) followers hung on the hanging platform that they had built to hang the Jewish people. So, again, Esther wasn’t all that forgiving.
Yes, I noted that quote too, in her speech and wondered if she thought she had mind-melded with Esther.
Palin said……we need Michael Reagan to keep on fighting for our freedoms, for our country and what we’re being fed today, it seems, is a steady diet of selected misrepresented news…
How exactly is Michael Reagan fighting for our freedoms?
_______________
Ummm… he’s freeing us from the oppressiveness of child-rearing by sticking grenades up their butts?
Otherwise, I dunno. And neither does she.
samper, you have asked a lot of good questions, and I thank you. I would like to add one more:
If she had been given an equally “warm” ensemble from Ski Doo, instead of Arctic Cat, do you think she would have worn that, or pulled something else out of the closet?
First Dude, the feds, my kid, screw political correctness, Obama (not President Obama)…….
Palin is so classless. Can anyone imagine her representing America on the world stage and her interaction with Heads of State?
Oh wait……we don’t have to imagine….remember when she was punked on the radio and thought she was speaking with Sarkozy? What an embarassment.
It’s been rumored that some ministers had suggested that SP is a representation of the biblical Esther……
Did the biblical Esther say “screw”? Have these so-called Christian leaders read that one? Do you think they will open their eyes? Probably not.
I try to listen carefully to speakers, often taking notes to help myself focus on what the speaker actually said, not just how they said it.
After listening to Palin, then Obama, I have a whole essay running around in my head. Since I have to leave for work, I’ll summarize. (For any lurking Palinbots, yes, I actually have a job, because none of us are getting paid by the DNC, Obama, or anyone else, and we actually have bills and mortgages just like you.)
I don’t always disagree with Palin. I don’t always agree with Obama. But after what I’ve seen and heard, if they traveled to Europe together, I have no doubt that Palin would be the one boldly pushing her way to the front of the queue, while the locals patiently waited their turn, and Obama would be the one going to the back of the line and politely asking questions of his neighbours to learn more about his surroundings. (She’d probably think I spelled “neighbours” wrong, too.)
This is what hit me this morning: She is the embodiment of the “ugly American.”
I have been over the text of her speech many times now (I must enjoy pain), and I cannot believe how many shocking tidbits there are in this speech. If she never utters another word, this material is enough to sink her.
It completly egocentric, nonsensical, mumbo-jumbo, jibber-jabber word garbage (forget word salad—a salad you can eat and provides nutrition—-this is word garbage—-trash—-compost heap).
Philip Munger and crystalwolf, at posts 67 and 71 over on today’s open thread, had some interesting comments about Palin’s use of coded speech to further the agenda of certain radical Evangelical groups. Makes for interesting thought and gives new meaning to much of what she said in in her introductory speech.
all she has is her extensions, glasses to hide wrinkles, gobs of makeup to look like a play thing from afar, killer calves (i admit here) due to running..but eventually will turn vein ridden .. not a healthy sport, and shoes..
but her clock is ticking massively.. if she were 36 i’d be a little squeamish at the possibilities but she’s gonna lose all that and 3/4th her base in just a few years.. perhaps sooner if she gets stressed by the “iceberg” .. she turned into a haggard robot a month ago when she had a few weeks of stresses
she’s pushing with all shes got.. but sadly
no substance..
there will be a steep downfall with or without babygate, housegate, blah blah gate coming to bite her in the hind parts
They were covering her speech a bit on MSNBC about an hour or so ago, but more in terms of how relevant she still was and how right she was, according to the doodleheaded Repug covering the right side. I kept thinking back to your account of the event and the transcript you included which I DID TRY TO READ, but my eyes kept glazing over. They never cover what a smog cloud of words she conjures. She is toxic and will be so for some time and with the right wingnuts who follow her and those like her and hear nothing else, but their talking points, I’m a little worried.
With regard to Palin’s relevance (or lack thereof): if you search for recent coverage, there really isn’t much compared to her earlier (i.e., post-nomination) engagements. Google lists only 20 articles related to this “event” (i.e., EMBARRASSMENT).
What would help Palin would be to get rid of some of the “yes, ma’am, you’re always right” people she surrounds herself with and replace them with people from whom she could get good, sound advice mixed with good constructive criticism. I’d be willing to do it, but I’d get fired with 5 minutes after taking the job.
The comments on the Huffington Post are flipping great !!!!! Drum roll please !!!
I am so giddy over this !!! Palin opens mouth and inserts ugly shoe yet again !!! You can’t make stuff this good up !!! Your humorous coverage is getting read all over the country along with the ramblings of “The run on sentence that is Palin !!!”
Thank you, I’ll be singing a happy little tune in the garden today !!!
Dude, how the hell the hell did you ever successfully sit through this verbal lobotomy and live to tell the tale. People pat me on the back for spending a few minutes in FreeperLand and reporting the results but this, listening to a twin bill of Sarah Palin and Michael Reagan, elevates the concept of taking one for the f-ing team. That was epic in the Wagner mold. Jill at Brilliant at Breakfast linked to this and I ought to do the same.
Kudos and try not to do that again too soon.
I just love it when someone says; “And let’s be honest…”
Does that mean up until you said that, you WEREN’T being honest ?!?
Another one is “to tell you the truth…..”
So, you were lying up until then ??
Heard a bit of Pat Buchanan on Hardball the other day, just a snippet as I was flipping channels, and I think he must have been talking about Sarah Palin, because the guy on the other half of the screen (didn’t catch his name – but he is a regular) simply said “Oh, she’s a joke Pat, a total joke”.
Boy, did he hit the nail on the head !
Just now on The Ed Show, Ed featured GINO on his “Psycho Talk” segment! He ran the part of her talk where she claims the government wants to bail out states, then control the people.
…in other words “F” Political Correctness…that’s what she really ‘seems’ to mean..
i think that she thinks that shes a fashion icon….HAHAHAHAHA
Let’s not forget that in TIME’s “2009 TIME 100″ issue, ANN COULTER wrote the essay on Sarah Palin:
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1894410_1894289_1894287,00.html
I can’t think of a more appropriate “person” to be connected in this way to GINO.
Re-read the entire thing, and am still reaching for the liquid libation.
Apparently, to add to the problem of word salad-ness Sp has, she has failed to master the expectations involved in an INTRODUCTION of a guest, namely, short and sweet.
Oy…
If that biblical queen esther thing is for real, she is one delusional nut job.
Did I read somewhere that the whole Troopergate report is being made completely public? Maybe this will help the SS Palin go down.
@weRpennst8
Oh yes, “What Not to Wear”….heads would be exploding all over the place!
I’d just watch while they go through her closet!
Funny, there was just a commercial on TV for Rosetta Stone…
is there a Rosetta Stone language program for Palin Word Salad?
First, for Palin the “Journalism Student”: subject followed by verb followed by how about a complete sentence and a point? I have never heard such idiotic mish-mash. I can’t believe no one threw shoes at her. She makes GWB sound clever (well, if not clever, at least concise).
And Ronald Reagan was his Reaganomics were the worst thing for the middle class, the beginning of the end. If that was creating opportunities (cutting Pell Grants, cutting benefits in Madicare and Veteran’s Benefits – of which my father suffered – creating the “Me Generation”, many of whom I went to school with, which created this generation of bankers and Wall Street Traders) that I guess I don’t know what opportunity is. Reagan was so good at talking pretty to the middle class while every one of his policies only stabbed them in the back. I guess this is the kind of straight-talking politician Sarah Palin likes.
AKM – you are one tough cookie, one courageous person for having been able to sit through that “speech” and not either groan audibly (I assume snce you weren’t thrown out), throw shoes or walk out…
This was a tough job but somebody had to do it and you did it well.
I’m baffled by the idea earlier in the comments that Palin needs to change some of the personnel around her. Surely, the change that’s needed is for the Alaskan people to come to their senses and vote out this international laughing stock. Don’t they realize how embarrassing she is??
I thought this was a solid speech. The repeating of word or meme (in this case the word ‘bold’) is actually taught as a technique in Communication classes. What would you have wanted her to say, that Alaska needs more money and control from my town (D.C.)?
Robert in D.C.
Was there a casting out of witches afterwords? Perspiring minds want to know.
