Sarah Palin – You’ve Got Mail AND a Wakeup Call!
Governor Palin got a letter yesterday from House Democrats. Seems they intend to vote to override her veto of $28.6 million in federal funds offered to the state of Alaska for energy relief.
“I want to work with the governor as much as possible,” said Rep. Harry Crawford (D-Anchorage). “But my responsibility is to Alaskans first, and to always doing what is in the state’s best interest. Rejecting this money is flat wrong, in my opinion.” Crawford has long been a champion of energy independence for Alaska, and said he believes the stimulus dollars can go a long way toward helping the state achieve that critical goal.
“Access to affordable, clean energy is the most important factor in assuring security and prosperity to Alaskan families,” said House Democratic Leader Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau). “It affects every aspect of family and community life, from budgeting to health and from safety to peace of mind. Of all the stimulus dollars available to us, these may actually be the most important.”
Rep. Sharon Cissna (D-Anchorage) added that rural Alaska communities face even more severe consequences and challenges related to high fuel costs, and that quickly acting to accept the federal stimulus funds would greatly benefit rural Alaskans.
And don’t think it’s just the Democrats that have a beef with the governor.
“This issue has been researched thoroughly by legislative staff and we couldn’t find one string attached to those funds,” said Anchorage Republican Rep. Charisse Millett.
Another Alaska Republican, Anchorage Rep. Mike Hawker, said Palin is wrong about the building codes: “We’ve researched this thoroughly, and the governor’s folks now have received a letter from the (U.S. Department of Energy) basically saying that you don’t have to come up with all these building codes.”
And from yet another Alaska Republican, Anchorage Senator Lesil McGuire: “When we researched the facts on it, the strings that were discussed were not there.”
So, does that mean the Republicans will vote with the Dems?
“I would be surprised if we didn’t override her,” North Pole Republican Rep. John Coghill said Thursday.
And from Republican Rep. Mike Hawker again:
“This is just one of those cases where there is such a profound difference of opinion between the legislative branch of government and the executive branch,” the Anchorage Republican said. “We could have one of those rare and difficult instances where we are actually able to override a governor’s veto of an appropriation item.”
It will take a 75% vote to override the governor’s veto, and the odds are looking like it may very well happen. Bear in mind that even if the legislature overrides, it will still require the governor to formally apply for the funds. Here’s where I imagine some scene in a cold stone room with legislators standing around in capes and concealed daggers, and the governor sitting at a table with a pen, knowing that something ugly is likely to happen if she doesn’t sign.
But, of course, in reality, the governor could do exactly what she wants to do and critics be damned. In that case, prepare for another fun episode of Palin v. Legislature like we had with the Juneau Senate appointment.
Either way, popcorn is in order.

For the sake of the Alaskans who really need this help, I sincerely hope that the Alaskan legislature takes appropriate action!
So will there be a special session? …to vote?
This is good news for the residents. Now let’s see if the legislators can do what South Carolina did and have the court force her to apply for them.
……….waiting for a tweet………
Would that make GINO a ….wait for it….”tweet tart”"?
I agree with Harry Crawford hope AK gets the federal funds…The problem with the village idiot is she thinks she’s smarter than anyone else…Maybe van suckup is adivising her…
Typical Sarah, making real Alaskans pawns in her pathetic power plays. Shameful.
Well, if South Carolina is any indication of how this may turn out, I think Alaskans have a real shot at getting these funds. Huffpo has a great article that states that a case brought against Sanford by some young people in the SC Supreme Court was decided in favor of the plaintiffs! Sanford must take the $700million for education and cannot use it to reduce the state’s debt. It was further stated that when Sanford tried to do an end-run on the case by taking it to a federal court, the judge (a conservative, I think) turned him down COLD.
Let’s hope your legislature will vote for the veto and get your courts involved just like what happened in SC. Palin needs to be brought down to realize that some of her people are hurting and need some help! plus, seeing her lose a batlle or two will be good for her ego
Well I wrote my state representative a very nice long letter.
So all I got to say:
QUYAANA, legislators for the people, QUYAANA!
Popcorn AND an adult beverage or two may be in order for this one!
we aren’t going to be blessed with a twater tweet, cause the twat is in NY pretending to be appreciative of people of color and the struggles they have gone thru…. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/06/post_13.html#comments
My Governor, Phil Bredesen, recently vetoed a ‘guns in bars’ bill. He fully expected it not to stick.
http://tinyurl.com/q6utna
He said he did it so that everyone in Tennessee would know he thinks it’s a bad idea. A little over 200,000 angry permit holders (in a state with a population over 5,900,000) raised so much h-e-double hockey sticks, that their Reps and Senators buckled to the pressure to override the veto.
Is it possible that it only takes a vocal 3% of a state’s population to get the state to bend to that 3%’s will? I guess the answer is YES!
good grief I feel another rant coming on…
A walk is in order and maybe my rant won’t be full of swear words…
Alaskan Legislators for the people ! OMG, I’m so proud.
Yes !! I hope the legs do the right thing…I feel the momentum building, especially after the Ross vote..Palin has insulted the intelligence of Alaskans…I’m sure they have read the speech/intro of the other night as well…I know the legs have to look at the issue and do the right thing for the state…which is take the money for energy.. but how can they not look at the big picture and realize that the Governor is not playing with a full deck so to speak….RIP !!! RECALL-IMPEACH-PALIN
By the way: I didn’t want our state to allow guns in bars. Here are some of my comments i posted on http://www.tennessean.com:
“We’ll let you have ‘guns in bars’ if you’ll legalize pot. We can choose to stay home.”
“If the only difference between a straight guy and a gay guy is a six-pack, could a couple of shots of tequila be the difference between a permit holder and a killer?”
“How is a cocktail waiter/waitress supposed to know that it’s illegal to serve someone because they’re packin’ that night?”
I don’t know ~ you Alaskans have probably had ‘guns in bars’, already, and it’s probably working out just fine for you. I did think it was interesting that Governor Bredesen vetoed the bill ~ knowing the outcome.
I bet Ms. Pouty Mouth doesn’t really care about your stimulus outcome; she just needs the theatrics.

Just finished yesterday’s (June 4th) posting a HuffPo (“Screw Political Correctness” – Sarah Palin in Her Own Words), and wanted to thank you for providing a very pleasant change of pace.
Employing a light touch along with a hint of goodnatured whimsy while making a serious point, mades for an enjoyable, and I believe effective, essay.
Sincerely looking forward to reading more of your work.
Kindest Regards,
Xavier B. Mawson
Didn’t Palin just say, “screw political correctness.” Another way of saying, “screw Alaska.”
Hold her red-heeled feet to the fire.
If her veto is over-ridden, and she fails to appply for the funds anyway, what happens? Would there be recourse in the courts?
Her behavior during the Juneau Senate appointment procedings leads me to believe that there’s at least even money on her failing to apply for the moneys because she feels “thwarted”.
@ 11 InJuneau :
Pass the popcorn and the bottle opener!
Is it just me , or does “alligator mouth – hummingbird ass” sarah always skip town when the going gets tough ?? She wasn’t around for the W.A.R. vote……..
The legislature should override the veto NOW. There are several reasons why this would be fiscally responsible, not fiscally irresponsible. They could take a day or two off for a special session and it wouldn’t cost that much.
Something weird is going on here (legislature waiting till January). I’ve got a theory or two and I’m tempted to speculate, but for now I’ll keep this to myself.
well, she won’t take this sittin down and she won’t shut up either, lol, you betchya……let er rip Scarah, what’s your rant theme, everyone is gangin up on you? big gov is “controling” you? the “Fed’s” are interferin?
The Fed is controllin’ the little people legislature…look how they got them opposing the GINO.
Sorry I couldn’t read all your transcript AKM. After a few paragraphs of word salad I would have rather been waterboarded…!
Joel’s Army? WTF! Just bring that up in any race she enters next time, she’s finished.
Ripley in CT–what’s your bottle opener of choice?
deist–given that they really do have jobs that occupy them for the rest of the year (at least some of them do) and that might be difficult to get away from, if the Energy Sect. will let them hold off till January, it actually may make sense for them to wait till they’re back for regular Session… Not that I’m saying that there aren’t other things going on…it’s just that it’s possible.
Its just sarah being sarah. she doesnt know what she doesnt know, and that is dangerous.
Sorry AK, Palin is pandering to the idiots of the lower 48, in a quest for future glory. She can’t be bothered with AK anymore. Please reciprocate.

Thought you might enjoy above article in today’s Guardian, a very heavily read British newspaper. The article is entitled “Return Engagement of the Embarracuda”. “Embarracuda” – how appropriate.
She is obviously making quite a name for herself and ‘it ain’t flattering’!! Lol.
c4pee BRAGS about this re: sacarah:
“A woman who named her youngest son after Van Halen, kept the bars open late when she was mayor, admitted to smoking pot when it was legal, likes ACDC (think “Thunderstruck” – her favorite intro song!), wears shorts skirts, ”
Sounds like she should be a Madame at the Mustang Ranch!
AlaskaDisasta–OMG, how embarrassing for us…she’s made us the laughing stock of the world again…
Sue her in court if she still gets in the way after the override and impeach her if you can, that may be the only way in the end.

She always cuts out when something is about to happen, lol. It would be great if they overide her while SHE IS OUT OF TOWN!
This is a lovely piece, though I notice that some of the commenters are more than a bit delusional about her brand of fiscal conservatism:
http://correspondents.theatlantic.com/conor_clarke/2009/06/sarah_palins_economics_lesson.php
When is the vote or how does this work? I am glad they are standing up to her. They should also do this on other issues. They should introduce legislation to change the way the ethics process works. Also the AG should be elected not chosen. Don’t you guys think? I never here ANYTHING like this in my state and I live in a conservative state! There are no ethics complaints or first dude. It is all outrageous………… And her speech the other night. BARF, AKM, how could you stand it. Well thank you for giving us the words, no way could I stand listening to her!
On a similar note, have you heard liz cheney on tv? Another nasaly voice Republican who would not shut the F UP and kept interupting. And she is such a daddy’s girl! Oh yeah, the name Cheney will take her far! I don’t think so!!AHHH
“twat,” “humming-bird ass.” Those are really derogatory terms. And fully appropriate.
ok. I’ll use “rectum” from now on.
I just found out in my state you can carry as long as it is not hidden and if it is you have a permit to carry. I don’t know about bars.Seems like that would and could cause a lot of trouble. I really could not believe it when I read the article about it in one of our papers.,Of course I have never seen anyone even in the larger cities carrying except for Police officers ect.I thought only in Texas and Alaska could this happen.I remember in one of our cities where police officers at a party that had been drinking used their guns,Thats what happens with drinking ,angry people and guns

sarah always dodges a direct confrontation. W.A.R vote…out of town. Potential veto over-ride……out of town. A real politician gets in the trenches and lobbies and fights. What a lame-ass coward.
“Embarracuda”
I like the sound of that.
Where is that iceberg everyone was talking about?
I think this will be the beginning of the undoing of Dear Sarah. Here’s how I picture it:
Leg: We override your veto and raise you $28.6M!
SP: No! You can’t do that! I’m the Gov and what I say GOES!
Leg: Oh yes we can! And we ARE!
SP: Fine, I just won’t sign on the dotted line!
Leg: Really? OK… why don’t you get Van Flein (or whatever his name is) on your speed twit and let him know he needs to be in court soon.
SP: You can’t take me to court! I’m the GOV! Besides, the advance on my book deal won’t cover what I already owe, much less more legal fees!
Leg: Tell that to the judge. It worked in SC, it will work here, too.
SP: You can’t make me sign the papers! I veto your veto of my veto!
Leg: Just siddown, shuddup, sign on the dotted line and no one gets hurt.
SP: NO! What will my base say? This is all that’s left of the stimulus money that I can reject, per my promise of rejecting most of it in the first place.
Leg: It’s a stinkin’ 3% of the total you’ve already CAVED about!
SP: I didn’t CAVE! I re-assessed!
Leg: SIGN!
SP: NO!
Deadline passes… no more time to take the funds.
Fast forward to Campaign 2010 or 2012, whatever…
Her opponents mop the floor with her because this is the absolute LAST STRAW for Alaskans. Even her own party will nail her to the wall on this issue alone, if not others!
I agree… BARF on that stoooooopid speech the other night. I’ve read it 10 times and still can’t make sense of the salad. When did she have a baby goat? How did I miss that? And why is the baby goat in Israel? And where are all this “fed” control and strings? And why can’t she address the President of the United States appropriately, instead of just by his last name?
I have to hand it to AKM… my head would have exploded just seeing the god-awful shoes (that didn’t match the outfit – black would have been more appropriate in anyone’s book), let alone upon hearing her first vapid comment.

Anything that get me to the nectar.
What sort of nectar? I enjoy a full bodied adult beverage, a little darker and tastier than the stuff they put in cans. Or you can just start making Stoli and Tonics for me
add and “S” there… seems we had an “s” issue a while ago… Hmmm teehee
Bars + Guns = TROUBLE in a BIG way!
That is absolutely INSANE!
An Ex BF of mine hunts up here (MI) with a bunch of his belly scratchin’, cigar smokin’ , shot swillin’, gun totin’, spittin’ friends (all pretty cool, but get them in a hunting cabin with no women around and they are NEANDRETHALS!).
They have RULES about running around with their guns. NOT because our state put them in place, but because THEY put them in place for their own good.
Rule #1: No liquor for at least 12 hours before going out with a gun. And, if they really “went to town” drinking the night before, they breathalyzer themselves with a personal breath test doo hickey. Since they go out pre-dawn, it’s been the occasion that they’ve woken up still drunk!
Rule #2: If you can’t keep a hearty breakfast down because of a hangover, you have to stay in all day, cleanin’, cookin’ and poutin’ because you aren’t out hunting. Our Gun/Deer season is only 2 weeks long. Being grounded is the WORST for these guys!
Rule #3: If it takes more than two wake up calls to get their butts out of bed, they can’t go out. They are obviously too tired to be running around with loaded weaponry.
Guns in BARS? Absurd!!!
Gosh darn it! I went off topic to reply to a post. I’m an IDIOT. I’ll try to behave next time.
With all this talk about how awful she is, how come there hasn’t been a movement of ANY kind to recall her? I think impeachment might be difficult because all the ethics charges are being dismissed (at least federally, impeachment is in place to bring an actual crime to trial), but a recall for lack of confidence should be sustainable.
What does it take? Cash? Signatures? Leg support? What are the RULES up there to recall this moron?
And why hasn’t someone stepped up to start the wheels in motion for a recall? Everyone talks about it, but to my knowledge, no one has actually DONE anything about it.
I’m assuming the rules are tough to circumvent or something.
samper
There is no point in trying to recall her while her poll numbers show she still has more than 50% support – the votes to make a recall work aren’t there, and a failed effort would only serve to bolster her and her supporters.

I love you Alaskan bloggers. I just saw video of Sarah’s awful speech on Chris Matthews and soon on Keith’s show. David is filling in. They are making fun of her inability to understand the stimulus package. David said early when highlighting the previews something to the effect of we already know her Geography 101 skills (while playing one of her ludicrous responses to a question during campaign) now we find out her Econ 101 skills while showing the video from the Reagan event. I LOVE IT and all of you who are getting the message out for the rest of us!
Yippee! can’t wait to see the vids of Chris Matthews and KO!
Hardball and Countdown each had scarah segments. Countdown had a shot of her in her Arctic cat spelndor. the noose is getting tighter…MSM is picking up on her idiocy.

Here is Chris about sarah. Starts at the 1:23 mark. Leading up to that is Bisquit Butt whining about PO “owning” newspapers. OK Rush , You currently have a paid contract for 400 million dollars. Put your money where your vile , fat mouth is and buy a couple of papers.

InJuneau:
I suspect legislators may have gotten a subliminal message from Palin administration that if they let things cool down and wait until January, there may be a better chance Palin would apply for funds at that time.
Palin will serve herself for now, but perhaps she’ll throw us some scraps in January if we behave ourselves.
Loadaed guns in bars? Sounds like Darwin wins again.
I wonder if Paliln can hear the Alaskan people yet…Based on her history, it seems she disregards anyone elses wants, needs or educated adivce and opinions. Where is that petition to recall her, I want to sign it.
It just amazes me that Palin continues the lie about strings attached, even everybody in the US knows that they aren’t.
And of course she will refuse to request the funds unless the public, in large numbers, camps on her doorstep. Even then she wll still probably refuse to request the funds, becasue she is a mean spiteful selfish witch.
To paraphrase the Governor of Alaska. “I win, you all lose.”
Forget the popcorn. Go straight for the alka seltzer and the liquid libations of the ‘mellow me til I don’t care anymore’ type.
What a weiner!
Lets See
Sarah is a self proclaimed Christian and keeps telling us how this country, its government and politics were founded on the principles of the Christian’s God. And in God we trust. And how the founding fathers were all Christians. And of course God personally opens doors for her and her realtion ship with Jesus.
Etc., etc.
So to be politically correct, you’d have to believe and honor things like the Constitution, which is Christian God based, and concepts of justice and equality and all that old fashioned moral ethical stuff that is founded on the faith in the Christian’s God and has made this a Christian country.
Wouldn’t you.?
So if she says “Screw Political Correctness” – that’s kind’a like saying Screw Christ and Screw his God.
Isn’t it?
What has occurred to me is that the legislature can override her veto till the cows come home; it will still boil down to SHE is the only one that can fill out the form and officially request the stimulus. Period.
Remember that bit about “I’ll do what I want until the court tells me I can’t” – ? She’s going to do exactly what she wants, regardless, until the court tells her otherwise.
So, who’s up for that battle, eh?
I actually feel quite sorry for the bimbo. She should have stuck to her silly little “beauty pageant’ hobby. Pretty little dimwits shouldn’t worry their empty little heads with serious topics. Leave that to those who have the mental agility and logic and the power of speech (i.e can speak mother tongue without sounding like Bush after too many pretzels).
What astounds me most is the collective mind of Alaska – surely the majority of Alaskans don’t buy into her lunacy, however attractive she may be. Maybe the ‘men’ up there should start using the brains they have that lie ‘above’ their belt-line. The ones below their belt-line have let them down.
This is the new document she says she’s relying on to prove her point.
DOE draft document
http://www.gov.state.ak.us/pdf/StateComplianceEvaluation Rev2.pdf
Nope, she’s not gonna sign unless forced to by a judge.
Good luck, Alaska.
In honor of my friends from the other side of the tracks here on Mudflats, I enjoyed a nice scoop of “Moose Tracks” ice cream!
Cheers, brothers and sisters against bimoginos!
Listen up, people! This whole thing has been about publicity for her. Of course she wants the money! She plans on the legislature’s veto. Then she will accept the funds like she did it under duress.
Of all the earmarks she has screwed out of the “Feds” (us), plus the $400,000,000 for the Bridge to Nowhere, that went nowhere but she wouldn’t return the money, she wants this $29,000,000.
Anyone with common sense knows, this money will make her job a little easier. If ever there was a time she needed it…it’s now!
Hopefully they will get on this soon – waiting till January will mean it will be too late to do a lot of the work that could possibly be done before the truly cold weather hits again.
Your governor is listening to her fringe supporters exclusively instead of considering the state legislators and the rest of Alaska’s population. Opening remarks at last weekend’s Teabaggers are Racist Party:
http://tiny.cc/SKCvm
CCH might have something there! Protest about accepting the $$$, thereby preserving her conservative image, then reluctantly signing on – she’s in a win-win situation, at least in her mind.
OK… I just watched the Hardball segment with the – gag – video (even worse than the written word!) of SP’s fear speech. How AKM et al sat through all 17 minutes of that drivel, I’ll never know.
ONE QUESTION: When she can’t make consistent eye contact with her audience because she is constantly looking down at her notes, how is that ANY different than the abomination of our President using teleprompters? I saw more of the top of her head than I did her face!
At least the teleprompters keep President Obama’s head up and eyes directed to the audience!
And, what’s scrolling on the teleprompters makes SENSE!
Man, I VOWED that I would wake up, have breakfast, and do nothing today but consolidate all the info for my Big Fat Greek Vacation and read a Dan Brown book (Deception Point) out in the sunshine.
So, what did I do instead? I refreshed this thread, which was left open last night. Big mistake.
I just wandered over to the Tea Party Opening Remarks link. It’s like that woman got out a Thesaurus and picked out every derogatory term she could find to express what’s “happening” to our country.
QUESTION: WHICH liberties and freedoms are in danger? They keep talking about this, but as far as I can tell, the basics are still in place and not going anywhere.
They are harder to figure out than a 2 year old just learning how to enunciate actual words. There’s one next door to me… I can’t understand a thing this little one says, but the parents/grandparents know EXACTLY what she is saying. They had to translate the word “flower” for me the other day.
It’s like a secret language.
And, how does rejecting the stimulus PROTECT our liberties and freedoms that they are so fearful are disappearing?
I would like to see the Leg all go in this afternoon for a special session, vote in favor of the funds, and leave the document on Palin’s desk for her return from helicoptering around the eastern seaboard on Monday. It doesn’t have to take a bunch of time or be too intrusive to their other schedules. Just get it done, do it quickly, and go on about their lives.
MAYBE, just MAYBE a few folks can get some weatherization before winter hits this way.
Samper, I agree as I basically stated above.
Palin is digging in. So now there are more reasons for a special session. First, they need to override the veto. If we have 4 percent inflation over the next year, we’d have about a million dollars less of spending power in 2010 than we have in 2009 with these federal funds. Also, we don’t know yet how long the funds would be available.
It seems the legislature will also need to pass legislation to compel the executive branch to accept the funds. Palin could stall this legislation too by vetoing, and then the legislature would have to come back either in another special session or regular session to override. Makes me dizzy thinking about scenarios. If the legislature waits until regular session, Palin could stall this or delay in the application for funds or in court until the funds are no longer available.
Palin is digging in and getting stubborn and her temper seems to be driving her as often (or always) happens. It will take time and effort for the legislature to get the funds, but it is a fight worth fighting.
To me, one thing that made the ‘guns in bars’ thingie relevant to this thread is that our governors are practicing theatrics (for different reasons) and it alarmed me that 3% of Tennessee’s population yelled loudly enough to have a profound (and possibly pathological) impact on the rest of us.
Because we were too quiet.
