I’m personally very tired of men talking about abortions. If they don’t believe in abortion or choice, I wish they should just keep their pants zipped. Most women don’t want an abortion, but sometimes there is no option. Most abortions happen with upper income white women. And no one ever talks about the number of married women who are ‘forced’ or encouraged to have abortions for the husband’s convenience. I was one of those women (I refused, we divorced) and I know several others.
It is unethical for men to try to decide what women can do with our bodies. If they really care about babies, let them feed, clothe, adopt, be foster parents etc., but that would mean a commitment. How much easier to spout off. When you look the men protesting abortion, the truth is that is about power over women.
And that is why it doesn’t matter if the mother dies, as long as the ‘baby’ is saved. Of course, none of these men wants to take care of that child.

I am an Army Veteran. 75-78. That guy was right that servicemembers lose many of their civil rights. He is wrong that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is the right way to go. The truth is that gays and lesbians have served and served well throughout the history of the military. I was in when calling yourself ‘gay’ was a way to get out of the service and lots of folks used it. On the other hand, we had several gay guys in my unit, it wasn’t an issue until we got a bigot as a commanding officer. That guy’s argument about the budget being bigger is bulls..t. Discipline and protocol would still be expected. There is a guy speaking out of fear. Truman integrated the military with a stroke of the pen. I’m very sad that Obama hasn’t done the same with ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’. It is hard to be completely honorable if the government is forcing you to lie.

thanks to both for your kind words. And austintx, I did feel badly for a minute after I posted because I know there are lots of good guys and I don’t like to tar all with the same brush
That last enlisted guy fired me up, but I couldn’t get through on the phone. Such ignorance and fear. My great uncle was a very closeted gay guy who fought in Italy and then 8 days before his end of service was given orders to go to the Philipines. He ended up taking the death march to Bataan. I’ve met many gay vets who did several tours in Nam and came back with injuries and medals. And my brother (who is gay) was in the 7th Special Forces said the number of gay SF’s and Rangers was astonishing. All served honorably. As far as I’m concerned, that is the issue.
So much fear. So much latency?

And hey , to steal a line from ZZ Top , I can keep a handle on anything just this side of deranged. I have several gay friends , both male and female , and if it’s a nite that involves carousing and dancing , I go with them everytime. As a matter of fact , right this second as I type this , My 15yr. old son is at his best friends house with the friends lesbian mother and her partner. And I’m best friends with the ex-husband of the mother. And guess what , we all get along fine.

Hate to brag, but when I was Miss Brainerd MN, I was in parades bigger than that one!!
I even rode an Arctic Cat snowmobile on a float in the St. Paul Winter Carnival, complete with snow suit. Take THAT Miss Wasilla.
