The sun shines high: the rain’s gone by.
    It’s Dandelion Day.
From fertile spawn my plush green lawn
    Is mottled yellow spray.

The neighbors’ round, all cutting down
Their blades and flowers gay -
Now green they’ve got, a common lot,
    While mine’s in vast array.

Why should I mow these lovelies low,
    Defying Sunshine’s ray?
To bring them down the sun might frown,
And turn blue sky to gray.

I’ll let their seeds fallow new weeds
    And mow another day.
    Resplay they should, the neighborhood.
    The Dandelions stay.

    Gingrich: Americans ‘surrounded by paganism.’

‘Non-Pagan American citizen’ Newt Gingrich dodged the draft, led the charge to impeach Clinton while having an affair of his own, and was a deadbeat Dad. Huckabee got a rapist released from prison that went on to rape and kill more women, thinks women should be subservient to their husbands, has a son who tortured and killed a dog, enriched himself with public money and thought AIDS victims should be isolated. If I believed there was a God, I would have to believe he is rather disappointed in how his two creations were living their lives.

Dandelions = BAD! Parents, do NOT teach your kids to blow on them! This only spreads their seed to the yards of very cranky mid-40′s types like me who has to fight them every spring. If I see a kid blowing on one, I’m gonna have a hissy fit and call the police. Something about malicious destruction of property, I think! :-)

Dandelions were once an important part of the food pyramid:

Roast roots and shred, use for coffee substitue.

Eat young greens like spinich (cook and drain twice to get rid of bitter taste). Serve with bacon dressing.

Yellow flowers make an excellent dandelion wine.

Palin’s Brother-In-Law Appeared on Reality Dating Show. Lt. Gov. candidate Sarah Palin thought it might help her campaign when brother-in-law Jack McCann showed up as a desirable catch on the new “reality” TV show, “Looking for Love: Bachelorettes in Alaska.” That hope lasted until she actually saw an episode of the series, which turns out to be your basic meat market twitch & grin.

“Oh Lord,” she said. “My sisters and I watched it in horror.” Jack, who is scheduled to appear again even though he crashed a mountain bike in the first episode, is pretty cute and has a sense of humor, Sarah reports. “He described his occupation . . . as an office environment consultant,” she said.
“He sells furniture.” [Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 6/9/02]

It just occurred to me this morning after Palin’s plagiarism faux pas, that her ghostwriter better get a clue.

If anyone who’s as skeptical of Palin as Geoffrey Dunn is, or the rest of us here are, happens to recognize passages in Palin’s upcoming book that are “strangely familiar”, the ghostwriter and the HarperCollins book editor will probably get the blame.

I’d be willing to bet that Palin’s “journals” are compendiums of her favorite passages from John Birch Society circulations and every ultra-conservative Republican politician who’s ever put pen to paper.

Once it gets written, she’ll be on Faux News every other day in infomercials for her new book that are disguised as interviews….
If that ghostwriter’s smart, she went out yesterday and bought some of the plagiarism software that’s offered up at http://www.plagiarism.com .

I overslept this morning and missed all the fun (Sarah’s invited, disinvited what again??). I love Isabella’s picture of Sarah wearing her red Franco Sarto sandals to the Autism walk. I wanted to show you another picture of Sarah’s sandals which she wore to the earlier festivities in Auburn, namely some other black strap casual sandals. You can see a picture of them over at Palingates. Reg has a beautiful photomontage of many of Sarah’s Wardrobe Wonders. I’m referring to the middle picture, top row. Yup, Governor all looking professional in another summer resort outfit.

I also liked Isabella’s comment that Willow wore short shorts to the Autusm speech. Reminds me of the time that GWBush and family were invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen of England, and a Bush daughter wore a denim mini skirt– almost as good as short shorts. Who dresses these people? Oh, yeah, Palingates shows us why the Republicans had to spend $$$ to make up and outfit Sarah because the Campaign pictures are so Vogue Magazine and the Post Campaign pictures are so Country Life. (I hope that’s not too classy a magazine). And now we know why they muzzled her and wrote her speeches for her. How can that woman run for anything on the national stage if this is an indication of how she’ll run the campaign??

OK, KaJo, you got me. Now I have to admit to (1) not looking carefully and (2) my eyesight isn’t what it used to be. In the interest of fairness, since the previous topic was plagiarism, I have to divulge my source. I found the pictures midway through the sea4pea site. They, in fact, credit the picture to the Post Standard’s John Berry (photographer) and happily provide the link to the June 6 newspaper. Dave Tobin’s article has a full photo spread of Sarah’s visit. (Better pictures show the color of the sandals). The shoes (excuse me, sandals) do look dark brown, but it’s the style, not the color that caught my eye. She wore them to the Harriet Tubman House before going to the Deli, the original picture at Palingates. So another question is: how many outfits and changes of clothes did Sarah bring for this Auburn NY visit? She seems to have another jacket on in the picture where she is looking at the antique steroscopic thing in Seward’s house. Are we this absorbed in the wardrobes of other women in public office? Seems to me that they dress in a professional, understated way so that we don’t have to comment on what they wear, it just isn’t an issue.

I posted last night and still think she shows up at dinner tonight. She was supposed to be at Croyn’s table but I suspect Malek’s table. Coming in unannounced!! Doesn’t mean she has to speak as she will get the attention now just be being there.

Does this family ever think about how they LOOK to the folks that bother to see them? Are they “respect-challenged”? Or just trailer trash with lousy, ugly, slutty wardrobes?

As for that TwitterBerry @ 7:16 AM Jun 7th “# As I said on Fox earlier: 46 cents on each $1 of govt spending is borrowed, 25% of it owed to China. Sore loser! (directed to Palin, of course).

    ————

I, too, did a comparison of AKM’s transcription of Palin’s Wednesday 6/3/09 “introduction” speech vs. that which her attorney Van Flein attached to his ADN letter (courtesy of see2pee — http://tinyurl.com/npfny5 ). It’s absolutely AMAZING how accurately AKM transcribed that speech. Kudos to her.

What’s most interesting — especially if you want to poke holes in Van Flein’s “paraphrasing” excuse — is that in either version, there’s between 424 and 428 words between Palin’s two references to Newt Gingrich.

That’s an entire essay in some parts, but for Palin and Van Flein, it’s just “paraphrasing”.

That’s the worst laugh-out-loud stupid excuse I’ve ever seen from a lawyer. Someone should check what fly-by-night law school this guy got his law degree from.

Okay, the Hardball report. (Basic paraphrasing as I got a phone call and was listening with one ear)
Chris made a point of asking Fred Malek if he thought Palin was the future of the party, and he didn’t answer, instead said that there were a few up & coming people who would be the future (someone from VA. was one pointed out).

The woman who was there as well, Michelle something, wasn’t so happy with Palin being the face of the party. When the whole will she won’t she thing came up, this woman stated in re: Palin “oh please don’t let her change her mind, don’t make it seem like a woman who always changes her mind”.

Bottom line, Palin is not considered the face of the GOP, but she is popular and will do well with fundraising.

Neither of them wanted to focus on Palin, that much was very obvious. The Michelle woman stated that the leaders of the GOP are those who were elected, and she specifically mentioned Steele.

My favorite part was when Chris played a clip of Palin’s Reagan Rally speech where she was talking about how the government was going to come in and take control of the people, he (Chris) claimed that she was using the “black helicopter” of “how they are coming to get you”. Malek disagreed, but Michelle agreed with Chris that Palin was more or less using “fear tactics” and the “black helicopter” idea in her speech.

Nan, congrats on keeping on for your degree!!!! I can not tell you how proud I was of myself when I earned my BA. For my MA, I was in tears (at age 34 and, if I’m permitted to brag a bit…with a 3.82 cumulative GPA).
During my years as a professor, I found that most of the best and most motivated students were the “older” ones who were paying for it a class at a time when finances/time permitted. It was an absolute joy to be a teacher/facilitator for them and I learned so much from them as well.

But after a high school record underachievement, it was a HUGE thrill when the honors program contacted me (ME!)… lol

You absolutely have a right to brag on that 3.82. AND on the MA! Good on you, and big, big congratulations. Keep that grin on your face, you’ve earned the right. lol

    Heh…the ego is showing.

Republican officials involved in the discussions said Palin was invited to sit at a head table but told she would not be given a chance to speak for fear that she might overshadow Gingrich.

Palin balked at that arrangement but as late as Monday had not made clear whether she would attend, the officials said. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, made a personal appeal over the weekend for her to attend.

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gXQF_j0nQexiGG49KIjOr0LvIz7gD98MNU8O0

I’m sure that it made her feel so much better that they came begging and pleading for her to attend. Feed her ego and she’ll do it, otherwise she will turn her nose up at it. No wonder people offer her gifts to attend events. They must realize that unless they offer her something she won’t bother with it.

Thanks for this. I didn’t know anything about it but I guessed (correctly) that it would have something to do with piratebay.com, a Swedish internet piracy outfit (and, I think, the first to use ‘torrents’). These guys were recently sentenced to jail as a result of court action by the big recording and movie companies (action which has failed in other European countries, so I was very surprised that the laid-back Swedish would respond this way). I wrote a post for my blog about the court case and I will definitely have to write about this. These guys are lunatics, but harmless and amusing.
