Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Fun With Statistics!

OK…one last thought.

June, 2009

In New York City, a crowd gathered with signs of protest, wanting David Letterman to go away.  The crowd was estimated at 50 people.  That’s .0006% of the population of New York City.

September, 2008

In Anchorage Alaska, a crowd gathered with signs of protest, wanting Sarah Palin to go away.  The crowd was estimated at 1500 people.  That’s .54% of the population of Anchorage.

So….given home court advantage to each of them, the number of people protesting Palin was 90,000% higher than those protesting Letterman.

Just sayin’.

(Sarah, note, they are just using you). And, Sarah is using the opportunity to raise much needed money. We just can’t quit her.

Here is a great response on the protest site:

    carrie says:
The best part is Palin’s response. You must read it—-it’s a doozy. Here is one part.

Palin:”This is all thanks to our U.S. military men and women putting their lives on the line for us to secure America’s right to free speech,” she said. “In this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect.”

Really Palin….you think that the men and women in the military are putting their lives on the line to secure America’s right to free speech? Does she even know what country she is living in? Does she know why the military is overseas? Does she know that we have a Constitution that protects free speech? Last time I checked, we were not in immediate danger of being overthrown by another country so they could take away our freedoms. Does she have a clue about the current conflicts in the Middle East?

    Gawd, she is dumb.

Oh but I am guessing miss high and mighty went to bed smirking thinging she took Letterman down, he said I am sorry and on Tuesday, that SOB will lose his job forever. I saw on the Palin lovers site that people were posting and asking, “Where is the live feed that was promised?” 50 people, that makes her look like a blundering fool. I bet she screaching away. And, yes, new jokes, New York City and she can’t get more than 50 people? Pathetic.

@mae, true–but here’s what we’re saying about Sarah Palin: that she can’t take a joke…that her nat’l supporters are small in numbers, a fervent fringe group…

Nearly 8 months after the election, who would have thought that’s where the conversation on Palin would be?

If her major accomplishment area continues to be in regards to professional comedy, I would think Romney, Jindal and Pawlenty will be laughing the hardest.

Recently, Kathleen Parker wrote that Jindal was very smart, right? Then maybe he’s laughing the most right now.

I know that Palin wants her name to be talked about and as I have mentioned before she not only thrives on the attention, but like a petulant toddler she doesn’t care what kind of attention she gets as long as she is getting attention.

I know that some people feel that this is only helping her because it is keeping her name in the news, but in my opinion when she is talked about due to things like this Letterman issue where it is becoming more and more obvious that this was more pettiness on her part than “protective mama grizzly” like she pretends to be, it doesn’t help her in the long run, instead it is really hurting her a lot.

If and when she decides to run for any national office, all of this petty personal stuff is going to come back to haunt her in a BIG way. In this day and age with youtube and google, people are going to be able to find every single thing that she has ever said or done and since the majority of it doesn’t portray her in a good light, instead shows her to be divisive, negative, spiteful, histrionic, and unable to acknowledge mistakes of any kind, as well as continued lack of basic knowledge on national politics/foreign affairs/national security/etc… on every level,……..well stick a fork in her because she will be ALL DONE!!!

Wow, this is the letter those sick tickets asked Palin defenders to send to Letterman advertisers:

As an advertiser on the David Letterman show, you endorse his point of view, I am appalled that your company supports the rape of young girls.

On June 8th 2009 Mr. Letterman “joked” that a female Governor of the United States is “slutty” and worse still, “joked” about her 14 year-old daughter and statutory rape by an adult baseball player. He continued his slander of this young girl during his June 9th show, likening her to a prostitute. I refuse to buy products from a company who supports such a vulgar, reprehensible attitude toward women and girls.

    From CNN via Huffpo:
Letterman protest draws more media than activists
    Posted: 09:04 PM ET
    .
Fifteen protesters showed up Tuesday outside of the studio where David Letterman tapes his talk show program.

NEW YORK (CNN) — A protest rally against David Letterman over a failed joke about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her daughter attracted more members of the media than protesters Tuesday afternoon.

A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman’s studio.

But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.

Radio talk show host John Ziegler — who is behind the FireDavidLetterman.com Web site that organized the protest, and who is an outspoken supporter of the former Republican vice presidential candidate — told reporters that the turnout at the event was not representative of the number of people who have responded to his site and e-mailed.

He also argued that Letterman should have been fired, and the only reasons that he hasn’t been fired were “the media’s love of David Letterman and the media’s distrust and, I believe, hatred of Sarah Palin.”

He also called Letterman’s apology — issued on Monday’s program and accepted by Palin — bogus and said that the comedian should make a charitable donation to an organization of Palin’s choosing.

Ziegler made a film about the 2008 presidential campaign called “Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted.”

You need to revise those statistics.

There were 15 fire david letterman protesters. The other 35 people were media covering the protest.

LOL. I think that really brings the percentages down.

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06/16/letterman-protest-draws-more-media-than-activists/#comment-2774866

And in other news, it’s unlikely David Letterman will get fired. He might even get a bonus.

He got 700,000 more viewers than Conan on Monday night. In the end, it *is* all about the ratings.

I posted this over on Shannyn’s blog too. Not withstanding the poor turn out at todays even, more are scheduled in various cities.

    They aren’t giving up.

If you check out some of the conservative blogs, they are all over this right now. They have lost too many battles and see this as something they can actually accomplish. Cynthia Yockey is leading the revolt, trying to get the word out to every conservative who supports Palin. Get Letterman Fired.

The plan is to write letters for the next 30 days to CBS and all the advertisers they have listed for Letterman. As outlined by Sebastian Gray at HillBuzz.

Sebastian says it will take 30 days of daily letter-writing to CBS and Letterman’s advertisers. That’s because for the first two or three weeks, they’ll just wait for the tempest to blow over. Not only do we have to keep it up, we have to make it build. This is our line in the sand. Letterman MUST BE FIRED NOW!!!

Austinite Russell Korman, owner of Russell Korman’s Fine Jewelry & Watches, decided to file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.

They are getting this out on as many conservative blogs as they can, just about everyone I’ve checked has had something on it.

Now interesting enough, Letterman has renewed his contract recently through 2012 and his ratings are up. However, will sponsors hold out, whose bottom line is public relations and money? Shouldn’t CBS be let known that they are about to get bombarded with emails from Palin followers?

There has to be just as strong of a response by the left as there is from the right.

Second, no one is going to write a letter a day for 30 days. And pay the $13.00 for postage.

Third, don’t they think people will notice the same names appearing on the letters every day?

Fourth, David Letterman is leading Conan in the ratings. On Monday by 700,000 viewers. Now to put this in perspective, David Letterman had approximately 3.7 million viewers on Monday night.

If they can get 4 million people to write letters for 30 days, maybe they’ll get Letterman fired. But those 15 protesters aren’t going to be enough.

While not cheating, maybe…seems a little unethical to count money that received prior to the webathon as part of the money raised by the webathon.

Since it is illegal for Palin to directly solicit funds, looks like she is having her minions doing it. Kristin Cole stated this would be good time to raise funds since SP has been in the news so much recently. But this is suppose to a grassroots effort with no input from the Sp camp…sure, right.
