@samper “hairshirt” is metaphoric shorthand for “self-torture, self-blame, taking too much credit for doing wrong, when in reality you are doing the best you can”. Hairshirts were a very uncomfortable shirt which penitents would wear to remind themselves that they were sinners. A very medieval x-tian concept, like self-flagellation.

I actually think that for those of us who spent a lot of time watching the testimony, it has been a long couple of weeks. It is emotionally exhausting to sit there and witness all of that hate and love pouring out. Not to mention some of the upsetting stories of discrimination.

I know I hit my limit of hate on Wednesday night when there were too many red shirts in a row – and there were things going on here which were stressing me out too which did not help.

Today is Sunday, so everyone should put down the keyboards and get outside for a bit. take a break, we all deserve it.

What a goofy night! I think the whole Red Shirt thing set us on our heels. We were just all over the place tonight – and yet, it all made sense to be nonsensical. All of their intolerance sparked tolerance and confusion in us, much of which benefited us as a collective mentality but we also we wore AKM out as the keeper of our zoo of wounded and stricken hearts.

Tomorrow/tonight is solstice (does that give away where I live even more than my blog name?) and spirits run high as does the sun. We are touched with madness, but a good madness it is! I jumped in because it’s not all about the Twit Sarah – who is a verboten name in my house this last week. I jumped in because it’s high summer and I realized that I wouldn’t exactly know which direction to take next without ya all next to me! AKM – you rock and shine like the solstice eve.
