Open Thread – Photos from Emmonak
Dennis was finally able to catch a flight today, and has landed in Emmonak. He sent a batch of wonderful pictures for us to enjoy. He promises to send more and keep us updated on the trip. So everyone wave at your monitor to all those in Emmonak who may be watching! (We all wave madly!)

Coming home from a shopping trip.
Chum salmon drying. Anyone have a cracker?

Darlings (she says, while waving madly!!!)
Dennis, Heart warming pictures. Can’t wait to see the footage. Glad you made it out. I’m sure our brothers and sisters in Emmonak are glad to see you! Maybe after Gov. Palin sees your coverage she’ll bake more cookies and schedule another photo op. Thanks for getting it done Dennis. Peace CC
This is an article described as “big” as to how Sarah was picked as VP and her connections to The Family:

must read!
love the picture of the beautiful children
Waving to those beautiful kids.
Aw-w-w man……those little ones are c-u-u-u-te !! Thanks for sharing.
@London Bridges – That was one scary read. That is why we need to do everything in our power to remove Christian extremist from our government in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
Very nice Dennis! Thank you. The kido’s are beautiful!
Question, roughly how long does the Salmon take to dry? is anything added to it before drying? no bugs? no animals bother it?
Here is MO, they’d end up covered with bugs, and I’m sure racoons and many other critter’s would be very interested in a free meal.
Good luck to folks in Emmonak! Great pictures.
I want to post some information about anonymous blogs in immoral minority. for some reason when I try to do this on the website, I can’t. It looks to me like the site has been hacked. At times I cannot even read the comments.
This has to do with the IRS and tax fraud. I have been there on audits. IRS can legally go back only 10 years. I had problems in the mid 1990s. Started in 1995 and they went back in audits to 1986 – ten years. Had difficulty paying back through early 2000. So it looked like more than ten years. This is personal tax issues. If a corporation is involved the statute of limitations may be different.
Issues on fraud and other crime are governed by each state. I believe (could be wrong) that issues such as child support, debt, and other criminal behavior beyond major crimes, will have similar limitations. May be 10, 12, 15 or 20, depending on states. This can be found on some other internet sites.
SP’s IRS issues could have started in 2004, 05, or thereabouts and carried badk to 1994, not the 1980s. So I am wondering if this anon blogger is just fanning the flames. Other issues about her thta insinuate fraud may just be tied to some criminal statute of limitations. Hope this helps. I am not a Palin fan and hope she falls on her face. I am amazed that she seems to just get away with what she does and others do not!
Sweet photos, what a photographer!
Sounds like Dennis wasn’t able to get there in time for that Wed. mtg to record all the honchos discussing how the fishing limits/stuff was going down. Dang! Was it short notice? Perhaps deliberately short notice? I hope Dennis can recoup with some of the attendees as to what was said.
Not a warm and fuzzy way to start the day but I’m doing some reading about Sarah’s connection to the Third Wave Movement and thought I’d share this article for those that are interested in this aspect of her. Personally, I think it explains everything there is about her.
http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/19/2008/3255
There are also two great videos over on the Palingates site. You may have seen them already but to see them again while reading the articles (there’s a link to another on Regina’s site) sheds a brighter light onto what it is that makes her tick.
Cute pics of kids
Like the drying fish, curious also, too, how they dry it?
Anything added, or just sundried?
Precious children and the salmon drying makes me want to cheer that they’re able to ‘beef’ up their pantries.
Margaret and Helen have up a new thread re: Sanford. Funny.
Waving at Western AK neighbors!!!!!!!
and Dennis Zaki!!!!!!!!
Waiting to hear what is /did happen out there with Federal Subsistence board meeting…
Hungry after looking at all that fish,
gotta go find something to eat…
Palin outraged at photo found deep in neighbor’s garbage!
Sarah Palin held a press conference this afternoon to discuss a disturbing discovery she made last night while rummaging through a neighbor’s garbage. To her shock, she found an autographed photo from her early TV anchor days with a sloppily markered Adolf Hitler mustache.
“This is an outrage to all women, especially those who are family oriented. The intention of this photo is clear: My neighbor is attacking my oldest son, Track, for simply being a formidable young man. While I am aware that the photo is a likeness of me, and was near the bottom of my neighbor’s garbage bin flanked by two half-eaten burritos, I am also aware that she is a democrat and has ties to the Wasilla P.T.A.”

London Bridges, thanks for pointing out the story of the corporate cult, The Family. The Mafia is also called the family. I hope their collective head is exploding as their GOP cronies seem to self destruct. I’m glad all that BS is coming home to roost on those fakes.
I think SP’s fake outrage on the Eddie Burke cartoon was to deflect her impending implosion and they were trying to deflect attention from the fact she never went after the Nat Enquirer reporting that sacred icon of bad motherhood had an affair with her husband’s business partner.
not axe it is a sledge.

Waving madly!! : )
Those kids are just too cute. I want to smoosh their cheeks and give ‘em all big hugs.
The drying salmon looks delish. My mouth is watering. I hope they have enough to keep them going when it gets rough. If not, we’ll be there to help.
Big hug to Dennis Zaki for the great work he does. He proves that journalism is not dying quite as fast as has been reported.
Back to waving madly!!!!
Waving back. Can I send some of our 102 degree temps that way?
Inspect, ascertain………as in try to get a clue?
“A part of Governor Palin’s duties while she is in country is to inspect the troops and ascertain how the experience in Kosovo will better prepare these service members for missions within Alaska and future deployments overseas,” her office said in a statement.

“A key South Carolina Republican cited Sanford’s past criticism of Bill Clinton, and accused the governor of hypocrisy.
“He was saying our elected leaders need to stand firm on principles and values, and one of those is strong family values,” Glenn McCall, a member of the Republican National Committee, told CNN by phone.
“What he said is hypocritical if he doesn’t step down, because he was right with what he said about Clinton and others. When you are an elected leader, we hold you to higher standards.”

Sarah’s speaking to the troops in Kosovo (sorry – not up on the tinyurl thingy)
Morning AKM….Beautiful pictures..Puts a big smile on my face…Have a great day…)
Meg should be fired, as everything she does only helps “the opposition.” I truly think Meg is now working for “the other team” (us).
Either that, or she is unconsciously trying to sabotage her own job.
All the news today will be the collective remembrance and mourning of Michael jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon.
keep fightin the good fight folks………..go Diva and all AK progressive blogs.

“The chief difference between Iran 2009 and Ohio 2004—and Florida 2000—-is in the opposition. Iran’s Mir Hussein Moussavi has vowed martyrdom.
John Kerry, trailing in Ohio by just 130,000 votes with more than 250,000 yet to be counted, walked away less than 12 hours after exit polls showed him a clear victor.
Gore fought a little, but instead of embracing martyrdom, opted for boredom, and for making sure there was no challenge in the US Senate to the votes stolen.
Nationwide, Bush’s alleged 3 million-vote nationwide margin in 2004, and 600 votes in Florida 2000, were as fictional as those ballots the Ayatollahs now admit should not exist.
Moussavi believes he has a date with destiny. But Kerry apparently had one on the golf course. Gore’s failure to effectively respond in Florida 2000 remains an inconvenient truth.”
peeNutLand is on AKM post at HuffPo. CheManSour…says that they hadn’t seen the earlier photo of letterman photo shopped or they would of shown the very same outrage as Diva’s photo. (yeah right)
And the picture of Eddie in his Red shirted glory, is Eddie only wearing a shirt of the vile things he’s been called b/c of speaking out!(wiping a tear here, of course not a description of himself)
And Eddie can’t be all THAT vile as AKM says b/c her very own friend Shannyn is on the VERY same radio station as Eddie!(spin,spin,spin)
Che ManSour on Eddie:
“I don’t agree with Eddie Burke on everything, but that’s alright because Eddie Burke almost always goes out of his way to be respectful to callers who disagree with him. He only gets heated when confronted with people who defend heartless attacks on the governor’s children or who file frivolous ethics complaints that make a mockery out of Alaska’s Ethics Act.”
So Eddie Redshirt only is disrespectful to people that don’t think like he does?
Well that pretty much describes them all,
WATB!
look it up in the Urban dictionary…..might as well have GINO, Eddie, Che ManSour & Co by the definition.
@crystalwolf, Someone needs to point out to the geniuses at Crazies4P that radio is corporatized, and having a show on the “same station” as someone does not imply affiliation.
Do they not live in 21st century America? They are always so behind with information.
It would take too long to go through the list here across America where radio hosts are “counter-programmed.” But for example, there are many stations which have Rush Limbaugh’s show, and then follow with one more “progressive” host. Do C4Peers think Rush Limbaugh personally approves of all the radio hosts whose shows follow his? If so, they would be wrong.
London Bridges #3 – As someone said before, that is one scary read! As an Episcopalian, I wonder how there is any court case about the property dispute. Usually any church is not owned by the individual parish, but by the Diocese. Hmmm…something else to research!
My son is in Eagle today, and hope to get an update on YukonBushgrma.
Hi, Emmonak!! Those wonderful kids look just like the ones I knew in Bethel. Can’t be – it was 30 years ago!
*** CheManSour…says that they hadn’t seen the earlier photo of letterman photo shopped or they would of shown the very same outrage as Diva’s photo. (yeah right)***
Well – here’s your chance RAM & Co. Now that you know other photoshops of the “iconic” photo exist, git yerselves geared up and ride into battle. Take your Gatorade tho because after yesterday’s protestations by your camp there are at least a dozen new desecrated photos to contend which were made entirely in reaction to your buffoonery . Good luck and godspeed to ya!
tigerwine – Ask son to see if the PW is working out ok. Nothing on Forum about it. Thanks.
Great images Dennis ~ and thanx for sharing the journey! Yes, they are indeed beautiful… each one having so much promise, gleaming from their smiles.
damage control and “proof” Scarah’s a lovin mommy. yeah, right.

prof geezer, I hope you’re right…..at some point people associated with her are going to see the futility, the black eye on their resumes and reputations and start the distancing process, bail, bail, bail……save yourself!
I got the feeling Annette Kreitzer did with an 8 page interview in a tech (?) mag very recently, can’t remember the name of it, I posted it a while back…..all 8 pages where mainly about her. I saw it as positioning herself either for protection or a way to move out. The “emails” fall under her jurisdiction, basically the buck stops with her, she could get thrown under the bus if hanky panky shows up. Not sure if she’s in charge of cost’s, Diva may know. I’d be sick and tired of covering Scarah’s bs if I was her.
She already has the association with troopergate and with Scarah’s administration.
BTW, just my opinion, I think the new AG will find any loophole possible when it comes to oil, mineral development but she’s nuts if she thinks he’ll cover for her personal stupidity, he’s got more balls and smarts than Scarah……I think he’d hang her out to dry rather than take a fall for her, no way.

“C Street,” Sanford said Wednesday during his diffuse, cryptic, utterly arresting confessional news conference, is where congressmen faced “hard questions.”
On any given day, the rowhouse at 133 C St. SE — well appointed, with American flag flying, white-and-green-trimmed windows and a pleasant garden — fills with talk of power and the Lord. At least five congressmen live there, quietly renting upstairs rooms from an organization affiliated with “the Fellowship,” the obsessively secretive Arlington spiritual group that organizes the National Day of Prayer breakfast, an event routinely attended by legions of top government officials. Other politicians come to the house for group spirituality sessions, prayer meetings or to simply share their troubles.”

@tigerwine #28:
There is a court case in Colorado Springs involving a Episcopalian priest who led a group that left the church over women/gays, and tried to keep the property. First ruling gave property to those who stayed within the US Episcopalian group- now priest is charged with using church funds as his personal expense account, paying for his children’s education and so on. That case is proceeding-
these guys are all now suspect in my book……I’ll be watching them, just like Scarah. And I’m always suspect of secrecy when it comes to politicians, people in a position of power over the citizens but are supposed to serve not control.
“Residents include Reps. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.), Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) and Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.), Ensign and Coburn. None of the congressmen agreed to be interviewed for this article.”
“The house’s residents mostly adhere to a code of silence about the place, seldom discussing it publicly, lending an aura of mystery to what happens inside and a hint of conspiratorial speculation. In a town where everyone talks about everything, the residents have managed largely to keep such a refuge to themselves and their friends. On a street mostly occupied by Hill staffers and professionals in their 20s and early 30s, some of the Democratic staffers nicknamed it “the Prayer House.” On summer evenings, the congressmen would sometimes sit out front smoking cigars and chatting, but what went on inside stayed inside.”
CO almost native – let me know how that turns out!

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took a shot at John Kerry when speaking to troops in Kosovo.
The Massachusetts Democrat had joked that he wished Palin had gone missing instead of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.
“He looked quite frustrated and he looked so sad,” Palin responded. “I just wanted to reach out to the TV and say, ‘John Kerry, why the long face?’”
ack…..it’s 10 minutes long.
B*tch…….at 4:36 she says some stuff she should be ffing keeping her mouth shut on!!! ARG!
she has a very flimsy bra on under a t-shirt, shameless.
@ Say No:
You deserve a “Moose” Medal of Honor if you watched the whole 10 minutes. I had a hard time getting past Palin in the gray tee shirt, honoring the troops. More word salad…
oh hit em where it hurts Scarah, homesick men and women……she’s gonna work on funding so they can have trips back home because darn it those military budget cuts aren’t right, yeah, really, like she’s got that much influence.
The comments on the Huffpo article about this speech are dead on. This is campaigning in front of the troops and that should be FORBIDDEN! Do Not Politicize our Military Troops.
Unless the IRS rules for auditing have changed, they can go back quite a ways if fraud is indicated or proven in later years. So, maybe the entire time with Arctic Cat can and will be investigated. One can only hope.

She is not POTUS!!!
she tries so show she has a sense of humor, brings up at the end how she wondered what they did for outside information, goes into watching CNN, blablabla ensign, kerry, joke. that wasn’t planned or anything. Wonder how long she practiced in front of a mirror.
HA HA HA – I just thought of something. Ann Geddes has better look out or someone will make a big deal publicly, nationally, about all those babies she has photoshopped on fruits, vegetables, etc. and sold as picture and cards!
oh, no you guys, you’ve either got to mute it till 4:36 ish or read a transcript, she should not have said what she said.
Is that an axe… or a 8 lb sledge the kid is swinging?
In the first photo, what’s behind all that fencing on the right?
All the salmon… people pay big bucks down here for salmon like that.
she went running while there, nice time for some hot govie fem show off, eh?
Anne Geddes, lol……yeah, love her pics.
Tigerwine~ That’s different. Those aren’t “specialneedschildren” like Trig.
Trig is a specialneedschild doncha know so that make it bad to photoshop him, but it’s made worse because he is the specialneedschild of Sarah, queen in her own mind, so couple the two and you have “desecrated an iconic photo”.
Great pics, thanks AKM!
Boy Sarah is one dumb broad. Now she thinks she’s a comedian and can make fun of people. Anything to make sure they know she’s overseas.

Aussie @ 15… why is the governor of a state looking thru a neighbor’s garbage? She’s paid well, if I recall, and should be able to afford a trip to the local groceria, dontjathink?
she has to get all the lime light she can, heck the stiff competition is tough.
wonder who sent this to huffpo? hmmmm?

10cats4me @ 9: Interesting comments. I posted the following in response to a post from Martha that had transaction details from the Carter Trust (?) yesterday:
“questions re: IRS 1040 filings“
whoops… let’s try that again. This is from the 3 new complaints topic from yesterday.
164 Martha Says: June 25th, 2009 at 3:59 PM
It appears that the Palins borrowed the money from a living trust, that her parents have majority control of AND that was created approximatley 2 weeks before they borrowed the money.
This “iceberg” threat is about the Palins and Heaths embezzling from with a trust fund that was federally guaranteed. That the federal government agencies are looking (obligated to) into this wrong doing, because of the guarantee. And that the IRS is involved in this too.
____________
That part I got. Private transaction wherein Palin “borrowed” money. Did Palin not pay back the borrowed money? I don’t see embezzlement under the scenario wherein Palin borrowed money (presumably it’s a loan extended by the Carter’s).
I can see where the IRS might have raised an eyebrow if Palin did not pay back the money. Or if they paid no interest on the “borrowed” money (which the IRS views as an interest-free loan).
If the money was not paid back, and the value of the “borrowed” money never declared on a 1040, then there’s a problem as the IRS tends to view these types of transactions as involving undeclared income. Oops. Still gotta pay taxes on undeclared income!
If no interest was paid on the “borrowed” money, then there’s also a problem here as the IRS tends to view the unpaid interest on no-interest loans as… income. If that income was not included on the 1040, then there’s yet another instance of undeclared income. Still gotta pay taxes on undeclared income!
But that’s all conjecture as we do not know the nature or terms of the transaction(s) that you listed. Did the Carter’s actually loan money to Palin? Did the Carter’s expect to be paid a certain amount of interest? If there was interest, did the Carter’s declare that on their 1040? Did the Carter’s provide the appropriate IRS 1099 interest form to Palin? Has any of this shown up on tax returns released by Palin?
There are other pertinent questions, but those are where we ought to start.
Oh, and here’s a kicker… 1994? Are any claims by any of the parties (Palin, Carter, IRS?) barred by applicable statute of limitations? Has the bell tolled on any possible enforcement action?
Now Palin takes on Sen. Kerry, for remark he made. “Sanford’s missing, maybe it should have been Palin”.
wonder what this cost the state of SC? can you imagine all they did to find him?
he’s such a fool. Guess they didn’t get a weekend off.
“The security detail for South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was actively searching for him over the weekend and concerned about his safety, but getting the runaround from his staff in trying to contact him, the director of the state’s law enforcement agency said in an interview this afternoon.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/25/AR2009062502953.html
Fighting with John Kerry – that is so 2004.
Also, why talk about a PR spat with a vet in front of men and women who are actually serving our country? That was extremely insensitive to the men and women in military service and to vets!
I simply could not listen. That voice.
Her take on Gov. Sanford, he was missing for a couple of days!!!What did we expect she would say he was having an affair?
see what comes out when a light is shined on a secret. Sanford was fabricating a reason to make state biz in order to “stop by”. more hot water……is he cooked yet? I think he’s giving a press statement today.
“The Commerce Department halted high-level trade missions to Argentina after Argentina reneged on its debts. A Commerce Department official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to discuss the matter publicly, confirmed that Sanford’s visit contradicted federal policy.”

cnn’s reporting that Michael Jackson’s death almost crashed the Internet.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/06/26/michael.jackson.internet/index.html
Sarah’s reaction to Sanford’s disappearance was nothing more than a dismissive hand wave and something along the lines of, “well y’all heard about that governor in South Carolina, went missin’ for a couple a days – the poor guy (slight chuckle) – off doin’ stuff he shouldna been” That’s pretty much the gist of it.
The thing is , she only brought it up because it allowed her to set up the John Kerry punchline. Didn’t have one bit of outrage or Christian umbrage. Nope…just a dismissive hand wave and a chuckle.

Sweet kids in the photo.
Well, I’m trying to wean myself off the addiction of Palin news, but, it’s hard. Watched the Huffpo Kosovo clip. I’m trying not to be judgmental, but again, hearing SP make jokes about Kerry’s long face. First of all, his joke was focused on her as a politician, in the context of her being a hindrance in the political field. But, she lunges back making fun of his looks. That’s a low blow.
Yes, bloggers and commenters might make fun about her looks, but her peers who are senators and national leaders shouldn’t be fodder for her to cat scratch about their looks. She really is unprofessional……and nasty.
Roh Ro! Letterman is going to love Palin’s joke about John Kerry’s long face, and so he should, he made it years ago!!
Plagiarising jokes Palin? for shame!
To his credit, John Kerry was very, very upset about the joke and he apologized. … As a matter of fact, all day long, he’s been walking around with a long face.” –David Letterman

Palin’s Faux Outrage; Round Two
“Burke, a right wing radio host, has rabidly attacked any critic of the governor. If Sarah Palin ate a baby heart on TV, Eddie would say it was because she was low in iron and needed the sustenance to keep her strength up against her liberal enemies. Burke’s show regularly features Palin, her attorney, her spokesperson, her brother, her father, and representatives from an out-of-state, pro-Palin website regularly.”
Say NO @ 74 – is it my imagination or was there a whole bunch of jiggle going on under that t-shirt? Isn’t she paid well enough to afford appropriate professional attire? Didn’t she keep any of those high-priced RNC support vehicles for her boobs? Dayum but why do I think Dolly Parton is more modest in her attire… Charo, too. And both of them have more to keep in place.
John Kerry does have a long face. President Obama has “noticable” ears. Both features have been the punch line in any number of jokes – from both sides of the aisle.
Just sayin’
During Gov Palin’s political speech to the troops, which is not allowed on military bases, she denigrated Sen John Kerry a Vietnam War Vet who received three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.
Sarah just can’t keep her potty mouth shut.
Nan; #79. That’s true. But, the “face” or “body” jokes usually come from the highly-paid late night comedians. Sarah, on the other hand, is in Kosovo, representing Alaska as governor, and she’s doin’ Bob Hope. Taking a swipe at her competitor’s facial features ain’t gonna earn her more points. Maybe she’s practicing for comedy gigs in case she loses her job.
What exactly did our troops in Kosovo do to deserve to be verbally waterboarded by GINO? Or is having to sit there and listen to the Gash part of combat training?
help Hillary say NO to Tar Sands…………this is more important the Scarah or Sanford. They have a letter you can sign and email.

Rockefeller wants to cut private health insurance influence
“There is a very small chance any Republicans will vote for this health-care plan. They were against Medicare and Medicaid [created in the 1960s]. They voted against children’s health insurance.
“We have a moral choice. This is a classic case of the good guys versus the bad guys. I know it is not political for me to say that,” Rockefeller added.
“But do you want to be non-partisan and get nothing? Or do you want to be partisan and end up with a good health- care plan? That is the choice.”

Yes, bloggers and commenters might make fun about her looks, but her peers who are senators and national leaders shouldn’t be fodder for her to cat scratch about their looks. She really is unprofessional……and nasty.

She is a WATB! Look it up in the Urban dictionary. She is also a pig. With lipstick!
WTF is SHE DOING there??? She is not POTUS or Sec of State!!! She can’t even govern her own state. Why is she babbling around the world?
I hope that IRS/Embezzlement greets her on return…she needs to be muzzled!
I had a sister-in-law with a certain philosophy in her life. She always had to “get back at” anyone who she thought insulted her. I see that trait in Sarah Palin, too, also. She just cannot let one single remark go unanswered. The recent Trig photo thing was one example. Hypocrisy at its best since she was not outraged when the joke was Letterman instead of Burke.
Now, she has to “get back at” John Kerry because he made a joke at her expense. Newsflash to the Palin People: Letterman (and any other comic) is going to continue making jokes about her; she is Comedy Gold. Just last night Letterman joked about Governor Sanford’s problems, wondering if it was all right to start making fun of Republican Governors again.
A side note about comedy: President Obama can make fun of his big ears; it shows that he is a good sport. If some one else says something nasty about his big ears, it sounds petty, not funny.
I have been reading about another politician with a remarkable career, Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister. In his early rise to political fame, he used the same technique that Sarah Palin now uses– he played the victim. “Look at all of the terrible things they are saying about me,” he would moan to the Press. Since he owned the newspapers and TV stations that he was complaining to, it worked. He never had to answer the charge; he just complained about it. Sarah or her advisers must think that this is a good tactic. There is a famous saying in architecture, but it works here: Less is More. Sometimes, it’s smart not to “get back at someone,” just let it go and show how mature you are. Oh, I forgot who we are talking about, Sorry!

Inasmuch as your esteemed GINO has taken the Outrage Express to Kosovo, it seems appropriate to comment in song…
KOSOVO
(sung to the Beach Boys song “Kokomo”)
Wasilla, Alaska oooo off to Nebraska
New York and Canada and she can see Russia
Germany, Mexico, places Sarah did go
From Albania east
There’s a place called Kosovo
That’s where Palin did go to get away from it all
Her jet plane did land
At an airbase in that foreign land
She’s the traveling Guv
We’ll be thinking of but we can’t stand
A clown in Kosovo
Wasilla, Alaska oooo off to Nebraska
New York and Canada and she can see Russia
Germany, Mexico, places Sarah did go
Ooo we wanna make her stay in Kosovo
She’ll be their ass
And she’ll dress like a ‘ho
Way off in Kosovo
Way off in Kosovo
First Dude’s a geek, that snowsuit is trés chic
Sarah’s overseas
And she’s learning geography
By and by she will try a little foreign policy
Shooting wolves in flight
Beehive is pulled too tight
The way that she blinks her eyes
Should creep out the National Guard guys
Way off in Kosovo
Wasilla, Alaska oooo off to Nebraska
New York and Canada and she can see Russia
Germany, Mexico, places Sarah did go
Ooo we wish she’d settle down in Kosovo
Please get there fast
And please take Plumber Joe
That’s where we wish they’d go
Way off to Kosovo
Preen and primp, Bristol could land a pimp
(musical interlude)
She could make new foes
Most every day in Kosovo
Spending per diem dough
But she would sure miss the mall
Way off in Kosovo
Wasilla, Alaska oooo off to Nebraska
New York and Canada and she can see Russia
Germany, Mexico, places Sarah did go
Ooo we wish she’d settle down in Kosovo
Please get there fast

Oh my – now I want salmon for lunch. The kids are just too cute for words! Beautiful pics, Dennis – but I’m sad that you may have missed the Federal Board of Subsistence meeting. I’ll just wait to hear – thank you for sharing your heart with Emmonak. I would be hard pressed to leave those kids behind – so I guess it should be a regular thing to get out there and give a voice to those families and the village. Then play, play play! Some of the best times of my life has been working with kids that age in recreation and field trips – they are so creative, devilish and sweet as pie all at once!
re: earlier questions on how to dry salmon
some people just cut and hang, some people soak it in a brine. the racks are close to the houses, so any bears, wolves, or other nasties are chased off or shot before they get to the fish. sometimes the racks are covered with nets to keep the birds out too. and yes, the bugs get on it. the preferred location for drying racks is in a windy spot (typically along the beach), which helps keep the bugs off. the way i was taught to check for bugs in the meat is to squeeze or press on the strip. if it feels hollow, there might be larva in it, so you crack it open gently and check before you bite right in.
of course, there’s smoking the salmon. you can cold smoke or hot smoke… gives it a whole other flavor and texture (which i prefer) AND it keeps the bugs off.
now if you’ll excuse me, i’m off to make some salmon spread!

oh – forgot to mention that dried fish takes days to finish… depending on how dry and windy the weather is. as for smoking, we brine for 24 hours and smoke for 24-48 hours until it’s done. this takes longer in cooler weather. but smoked or dried fish will last forever with no refrigeration. but lots of people can it to make it last even longer. yummy!!!
@ earlier questions for haning salmon.
We use smoke to keep the bugs away and to give it flavor.
In one of the pictures the boys were building a smoke barrell. We would cut the salmon up, dip it in a salt brine, hang it and start a small fire (mostly smoke) with cotten wood.
The salmon would hang from a cache which would be enclosed with cut branches, boards or tarp. Whichever works. The salmon would be rotated to keep the smoking evenly distributed. Also the ‘walls’ would let down to let the air/wind help dry it quickly. Rarely is there bugs on them if done correctly. Love salmon.
I’m off to make salmon salad!
Say NO to Palin in Politics,
Curiosity — The link you posted re the Tar Sands, have your researched what it is about? Who is actually behind the ‘movement’?
Thanks akbuckie! My aunts who dip net / set net always smoke their fish, and it’s heavenly! Yes, it would probably keep forever but no way is anyone going to let THAT happen! I have a cousin who commercial fishes near Kodiak where he lives, and he tells us that the more salt in the brine, the better. There is a story they tell about how the sea entity gets even with you by making you drink so much water after eating that salty fish that you almost pop! Some goofy Aleut thing – wish I’d written it down because it was really funny.
This is what I love about this blog……discussing salmon and politics side by side. I’m a smoked salmon person myself.
Has anyone seen any footage of John Kerry making the joke? I haven’t. Didn’t Palin say that she turned on the TV and saw him making this joke? Methinks another LIE!

Strangely… the guiltless salmon entree at Chili’s (say no to that disgusting honey sauce) is pretty good… Same with Luby’s grilled salmon. And their salmon patties…. yum. A high brow palate I do not have!

Salmon recipe from a friend–equal parts McCormick’s Montreal Steak Seasoning and brown sugar, wetted down with your adult beverage of choice such as tequila (!) or wine or beer (or water or something else if you want) to make a paste. Slather that stuff on your salmon, put it in foil (open at the top, don’t seal it up), pop it on your grill (or in the oven if no grill is available), and cook till done. It’s FAB!

This quote from Wonkette pretty much says it all:
“Which is to say, Palin basically poked a stick in the world’s largest beehive filled with cheap & tireless insanity..”
A FOIA request to the Federal government (each branch of the military) and to the State of Alaska under its rules needs to be made to determine who paid for this trip (state or military), how many people it paid for (did she bring Toad or Kris Perry or any kids?), to see if she claimed per diem for her home (even though she is away), and if any part of the trip was paid for by U.S. military branches did she also claim for per diem from the state.
Might get real interesting…. Especially if she double-dips! Then again, if Toad or Kris Perry or any other non-military state personnel accompany her on this, what is the justification? If she can handle 4 kids, a grandkid, two blackberries and being governor all at the same time she should certainly be able to handle two blackberries all by herself on this trip!
Nothing like a little ridicule to bring down a silly GINO.
Love the new photoshopped images of the ‘desecrated icon’. LOL!

That is a DIFFERENT Martha – obviously one who has brushed up on trust financial transactions. That stuff is so boring to me that I would fall over in my chair, asleep, just trying to get through the transaction history. I also fell asleep while attempting to help my mother study for the Bar Exam – lots of help I was – NOT. I took accounting classes, and it was a great time for napping!

There you are!!….lol Thanks for getting back to me!! I was just pointing out that there was money borrowed from a trust fund and this “iceberg” thing claims that “a” trust was abused”.
I was wondering how this Carter family fits into the scheme of things in AK. and their relationship with the Heaths.
It does seem odd that the Heaths have a majority control over another families trust fund.
AND that they decide to benefit their daughter with their control from this trust.
That is just on the surface of those documents.
As you can see the search was done on the Heaths and land deals.
IF it was common for this trust to lend money for mortgages, there would be more of them, not just a single event to Heaths daughter and son in law.
Trusts have parameters for dispersing monies and lending money and this not at all common for a family trust to give mortgages like this.
Family trusts are to protect those it was created for, so even investments are as low risk as possible.
For instance, a simple family trust;
Father dies, leaves trust in name of wife and children, trust says children may apply to said trust for ;
a) mortgage
b)to start a business
It is to look after wife, then goes to remaining children upon her death.
Having had family trust experience in my own family, even an old fashioned 3 generation type, I can tell you even on the surface this is suspect.
I am however Canadian and I know that your federal and state laws a different, that is why I was asking.
That and who these Carters are would give you an idea of the size/type of trust it might be.
Generally trust fund management is given over to lawyers or investment firms/banks etc. to make sure no shennanigans take place.
One mortgage only, out of it in 15 years looks fishy.

Hey AKM!! Re-post that photo of Sarah holding Trig while using her blackberry!!!!
Since this is an open thread, I have a statement and a question:
Statement: Syrins Blog is a Wasilla blogger who knows GINO and is NOT impressed. I enjoy her blog and appreciate the Wasilla perspective. Her name is Sherry Whitstone. I e-mailed her and told her that I would like to comment on her blog, but a person who does so has to sign up for VOX and I was reluctant to do so. Sherry rarely gets comments/dialog, except for one responder, who is a Palinbot.
Question: Has anyone signed up to use VOX? Someone here (a few days ago) said that it is NOT recommended and causes problems. Sherry has asked me WHAT issues people have had with VOX (and she indicated she would very much like dialog/responses on her blog).
Thank you in advance AKM if you allow this comment concerning another blogger.

don’t trustees in the AK have fiduciary responsibilities and the prudent investor act to content with? it appears to be a HUGE breach of fiduciary duty for a trustee to stick his hand in the cookie jar to benefit his own daughter. big conflict of interest.

My signature dish is barbecued salmon with butter, basil, and blueberries – or even better huckleberries — using the tin foil method and soaking it in white wine that you mostly let boil away to time the cooking and capture the distinct flavor of the wine you choose.

Thanks, that’s what I was attempting to point out, but do not know your laws.
The “iceberg” accusation speaks of a “federal guarantee” as well (I do not know what that entails).
Alluding that if there is embezzlement, that the trust is covered, the feds are obligated to pursue an investigation and implement charges where necessary.
This really could be the end of Palin, if there is further involvement, as the accusation claims Palin had direct interference with the trust.

@Martha,
Will you bring some cilantro and serrano peppers to add to the above?
I feel a bit adventurous today. Maybe a dash of tequila into the wine-baste…
With this latest ‘hornet nest ‘ that Meg and Sarah have stirred up you almost forget about the last scandal because it just jumps from one to the other so quickly. It does cause a diversion, Because I thought for sure being asociated with ‘ plagiarism ‘ would be a big no-no but the Washington Fundraiser trumped that in the same week. They all happen so fast and right after another. Hard to stay focused.
Question : What is the status of GINO’s request for the exemption not to disclose the Artic Cat financial docs. Who is looking at it… and when will THEY (whoever they are ) make a decision.
Also… that same week the quotes in the ADN said she had not opened the mail or packages, so she could NOT disclose or file the forms (some nonsense )
While she and Todd are away…. wouldn’t this week be a perfect opportunity for Meg and all the Kids to sit down and open all those envelopes. Mom and Dad are gone. Yeah they do have baby-sitting duty… ‘ Piper’ would be busy.
And with GiNO away… what does Staplemouth have to do and report on… other than raise funds for C. Diva. She accomplished THAT already.
Do we know who will make the decision about her ‘ exemption’..? I have to think info there would tie in with the IRS rumors or be applicable.

So how do Alaskans feel about Franklin Graham calling Jerry Prevo and telling him to recruit those kids in Mat-Su, dress them up in red, put them on the bus and march them out as protesters against an Anchorage City Council proposal?

@107-austintex..dang that just makes my day…:)
@ Lori in Los Angeles,
I signed up for VOX and it took about 3 minutes. I’m not sure what the fuss is – I have a PC which has every known protection on it and nothing on my PC alerts me to any problems as I’ve heard mentioned by others. I also read Syrin’s blog. People get used to what they know – such as Regina at Palingates who recently tried to move to WordPress and was back at Blogger in one afternoon! Celtic Diva of course uses SoapBox, which drove me nuts for a day way back when – but I quickly got used to it. If you have a large monitor, SoapBox is OK but as it is, I just scroll around a lot and figure it’s great for my hand / eye coordination!
People complain about Immoral Minority’s format also, too because it doesn’t allow embedding, links or copy and paste. I just deal with that, too – I figure it’s all fine with me to use what the author chooses.
I can see, though, that an easier format makes it easier for readers to comment, so they might be missing some comments although I don’t think it deters readers. They are all fine bloggers and I’m SO GLAD we have them all!

If they click on the linked story, though, they will get an opinion piece that is hardly sympathetic to GINO at all.
“Even though it’s hard to argue with the Palin camp’s statement that special needs children should be “loved, respected, and accepted,” it’s doubtful that Biegel even had Trig’s disability in mind when she altered the image.
But, here’s the rub.
If Palin wanted to preserve the dignity of her son by truly making him “off limits,” she’s gone and messed up. By binding her world-famous name to such a narrowly read, provincial blog, Palin has in fact — intentionally or no — taken this image from the mini-blogosphere of what may be the most secluded state in the Union and brought it to the attention of the world. So, now, instead of a debatably malicious image of her son appearing on thousands of Anchorage laptops, it is appearing on millions of monitors around the world. That, dear readers, we cannot stand behind.”

_______________________________________
That is a HILARIOUS article!!!
LOL!
Then the link to the internet’s revenge– the photoshop contest on the same picture–did you see those? My favorites are the one with Sarah and the Pres. of North Korea (complete with rocket launch) and the one with Sarah and PeeWee Herman.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I like the Kim korea guy too
Just saw this comment by Palin while speaking to the troops:
Senator John Kerry makes this joke..I don’t know if you saw this…but he makes this joke saying “Well, shoot, of all the governors in the nation to disappear, too bad it couldn’t have been that Governor from Alaska.”
Well, when he said it he looked quite frustrated, and he looked so sad, and I just wanted to reach out to the TV and say “John Kerry, why the long face?”
So, it’s OK to make fun of someone’s physical attributes? I thought she was above that. Such hypocrisy!
i want to know why she was putting down a decorated war hero in front of active american troops?
this from someone who has never even held down a real job who after it took her 10 years to graduate college, went from mommy and daddys house to getting married.
i am an army brat and she just makes me want to vomit.
any ideas about calling her stupid a**out on this?
on foreign soil no less. didnt some republican once say you never put down america or american troops on foreigh soil?
Found these on another blog about that hike to Argentina:
Mark Sanford’s Trail … Of Hypocrisy (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
The myst’ry of Sanford is solved.
We have learned an affair is involved.
Argentinean tryst!
Now that’s quite a twist.
Say goodbye to his Prez hopes. Dissolved!
The myst’ry of Sanford is solved.
It finally has been resolved.
A lover he had.
His wife’s bloody mad.
Cause he thinks that he’ll be absolved.
I don’t know about limericks, but we can paraphrase Andrew Lloyd Weber:
Don’t cry for me, Carolina!
The truth is, I up and left you.
Through all the sneaking,
The weird deceptions,
I broke my promise.
What? Keep my distance?
Cute little story from Phil’s site today. Talking about two ‘ political HUMOR sites’ and the job they do.
One being the Wonkette…. and the other one being.——> THEM.
Maybe they have learned what humor is since yesterday…? Probably NOT.
When is Sherry Johnston’s next court date?
pvazwindy–as I recall, sentencing is set for some time in July.
I read somewhere that the trial for Diana Palin (Todd’s half-sister) on burglary charges begins on Monday, unless it’s been delayed again.
I’m wondering if there’s a connection to her and the “Gran Torino” comments on Bob Lynn’s site? Or would it be one of Todd’s two Mommies?
I have to say, the more time goes by and I don’t see these new ethics complaints come out nor the IRS getting into GINO’s private bidness, the less likely I am to believe there is anything really to look forward to from that source.
As usual, thanks Dennis for the great images. Those kids are beautiful.
So, Palin not only used Letterman’s joke about Kerry, but she claims to have watched Kerry crack the joke about her on the teevee??
I don’t think so. No one who covered that story yesterday had video, and there is no video on Youtube. Looks like another case of “There she goes again.”
Austintx – Am trying to get in touch with YukonBushgrma and Eagle. I’m assuming you wanted me to ask about the Power Washer? Is that what you mean by PW? Left message with my son’s cell, but not sure it will reach all the way down here. His wife says she never hears from him in Fairbanks when he’s out there. Will let you know.
Why doesn’t she just keep her mouth shut? I thought politicians were not supposed to be thin skinned. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a hundred times – Grow up Governor!
Lobbyists on a Roll: Gutting Reform on Banking, Energy, and Health Care
Oil and gas companies spent $44.5 million lobbying Congress and federal agencies in the first quarter of 2009 — more than a third of the $129 million they spent in all of 2008, which in itself was a 73 percent increase from two years before. Medical insurers and drug companies are also digging deep: 20 of the biggest health insurance and drug companies spent nearly a combined $35 million in Q1 — a 41 percent increase from the same quarter last year.
All that spending has proven to be money disturbingly well spent.
Dang right. sarah is a shallow , juvenile dumbass. She and her family { since she rams ‘em down our throat } , deserves every bit of ridicule and scorn that can be piled on.
Since Adobe is the software that allows a person to use publically available photos to create silly photos of very public people , sarah will be asking PO to shut them down next.
the problem child stated it very well up thread. The Toxic Twins are making a world case out of CD’s blog , and should and will suffer for it.
I wish Megtard would pop off in wonkettes direction……..now that would be FUN !!
Yes , I meant the powerwasher. Sorry.
W o W !!
Wonkette is really having fun over there. ( Thank You Meg … and THEM)
If you go the bottom of their page… here is just a sample of the one….The full story is there. You can check it out.
Have a look at Mrs Palin’s Twitter!
Caught this from Wonkette, thought I’d share:
10 Commandments according to Meg Stapleton, Revised Down to Five
1. Thou shalt never make fun of a Palin.
2. Thou shalt never question the parentage of the Holy Child Trig.
3. Keep all days on which the Holy Mother Sarah Palin appears in the media to express Her outrage well- and favorably-reported.
4. Any who question the ethics of the Holy Mother Sarah Palin shall be beheaded or at least cast out into the ‘unreal’ America and despised from that day forth.
5. Love the Holy Mother Sarah Palin above all things, for it is She who wilt deliver us from the evil Democrat party and their host of Alinsky-worshiping demons.
Top secret…Palin’s trip to visit the troops was top secret??? She went to Kosovo and is going to Germany. Two hotbeds of political unrest, dontcha know? Anything to add drama. Not to mention her pathetic speech, her plagirized Letterman (older than the hills joke),her bashing a war hero in front of troops, and her mangaling of the Ronald Regan quote. She is definitely pathetic.
Joe the Plumber is back in the news at HuffPo…wants to know why Chris Dodd hasn’t been lynched. Just when you think The Plumber has left the building…he pulls a Jack (and he’s back).
Now this is how citizen’s complaints re: gov’t big shots are handled in FL…an actual inquiry is done on actions by the former, now indicted, Speaker of the House…
Someone pass this on to the AK investigators….
Sansom faces House sanctions; committee named to consider case
*snip*
On Friday, Cretul appointed the select committee to determine what action should follow from the investigation spurred by a complaint filed by a citizen. Special investigator D. Stephen Kahn delivered a 286-page report on his more than four-month investigation into Sansom’s dealings and found probable cause for three violations of House rules.
Great pics! I love the one of the kids. Those smiles are priceless! It truly lightened my heart looking at those sweet happy faces.
In case you missed what I said on the previous thread re a certain website –
It is just my own opinion, by the way.
Snoskred…Many thx for the heads up…:)
….so ‘Opposite Govenor’ plagirized Letterman…do you mean the same Letterman she & Todd Dearest want to keep away from Willow?
…so he good enought to quote huh?
[I'm getting dizzy]
Thanks, Snoskred, for sharing your wisdom with us. I just read your post on the other thread, and agree.
Snoskred – Thanks. Can count on one hand how many times I’ve been there. No likee. I say let them revel in their own misery…….Roaches , rats , and feral animals usually move along , or starve , if they are not fed. Just sayin’………
Sanford compares himself to King David. Palin thinks she’s the Blessed Virgin. Do you think these two will hook up for 2012? If they do, I going to look up Noah.
I posted on the other thread, which should’ve been here. If anyone is interested, here’s the comments:
I agree with Snoskred, except that I think we should continue new information and dialogue where important, relevant and insightful, but not necessarily repeat all of the stupid meaningless snarky stuff.
Dr Chill’s photoshopped pic of Palin and ugly Baby Burke pales in comparision to what they are coming up with over at somethingawful. OMG those pics there are really really bad, lol.
Not supporting them with the awful pics, they are doing it to make fun of Palin, and her outrage over ugly Baby Burke.
Here’s a brief summary of the 10-minute address to the troops. She begins with a reference to VP Joe Biden’s visit to Camp Bondsteel and address to the same troops. She says that she feels underdressed compared to the Vice President.
She thanks the troops for their service, not as the Governor, but “as a mother”, immediately followed by a high-five to Track and the Stryker Brigade.
“Now is not the time to be cutting military budgets” – as an elected official, she’s working on their behalf to address the current issue that “the government wants them to travel home on your own dime”.
“As the chief of the Alaska National Guard”, she’s very willing to work with all the other states’ governors to ensure that military needs are met, blah, blah, blah.
I believe that she really did take this trip because the Vice President did.
Wearing her usual sh!tty wardrobe instead of looking like an elected representative. Did I read she was underdressed in front of the NATO meeting also too? What a rube.
I got word today from my youngest stepson (a 90% disabled career AF veteran) that my step-daughter, Sandy, passed away at age 46 from lung/brain/spinal cancer.
Her husband and son were able to get to hospice in Cincinnati just minutes before she passed.
my oldest stepson (age 45 in Illinois) is fighting kidney cancer plus hepatitis C liver chirrhosis that he contracted at age 5 as a result of a blood transfusion during an open heart surgery to repair a birth defect. He also has diabetes, an enlarged spleen, gall stones and major edema in his chest and legs, but is otherwise skinny as a rail.
He is also being hounded by hospitals and doctors and other medical personnel despite having health insurance… grrrrr…..
CG, I tried to get through the video but it kept breaking up (got thunderstorms here again tonight).
Did she say something about babies? Thought I heard that…
Palin wasn’t actually attending formal meetings of any significance. She had a face-to-face with the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence. In her t-shirt. With international leadership all over the place and the formal withdrawl of the last platoon of Lithuania NATO forces.
She certainly does make her point that she’s just one of us commoners…I guess?
…I dunno, but my momma would’ve made me put on a dress and tights. Frankly, it’s insulting. Haven’t most of us unwashed masses been taught to put our nice shirt on for that birthday party and comb our hair for school Picture Day? I expect we’ve all gotten the message that we need to look nice for a job interview. Right? Even the most ignorant hillbilly in America right now, would clean up and put something nice on, given the right motivation.
I don’t need my elected officials to ‘dumb down’ for me, thanks.
I think probably Meg Stapleton wasn’t able to wrestle out an appearance at the NATO meetings on Saturday in Greece.
BRUSSELS (AFP) — NATO and Russia hold their highest-level talks this weekend since relations broke down over last year’s war in Georgia, aiming to focus on cooperation and set aside major differences.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his counterparts will convene their NATO-Russia Council on Saturday on the Greek island of Corfu.
The two-hour talks come on the sidelines of an informal meeting of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), where Lavrov this week again floated Moscow’s plans for a sweeping new European security pact.
Those kids are ADORABLE!
They told Meg thanks but no thanks. We don’t have any translators who can interpret the gobblydegook she spews.
CG – thanks for the great info. So basically the Gov. is on a USO tour……First the Vice President shows up for the real business, then she arrives with the country & western band…
“Top secret…Palin’s trip to visit the troops was top secret??? She went to Kosovo and is going to Germany.”
funny, just watching craig ferguson, and he said hes going to entertain the troops.
where did he say he was going? kosovo and germany.
hmmmm….
sorry for the no caps but am one handed typing.
so sorry to hear about your sprained thumb terpsichore…I’m not making fun, but I have sprained toes every other day. Thankfully I don’t need to use my toes all that often on the keyboard, but there are some nights….
Our friend Al is back – hopefully you will see this comment Al..
Al, don’t miss your starring role on the blog the other day!
http://www.themudflats.net/2009/06/20/open-thread-troll-of-the-week-award/
Al does not seem to realise his comments go straight into the spam bin.
So I think it can be said – the fugus has a higher IQ then you.
A part of Governor Palin’s duties while she is in country is to inspect the troops and ascertain how the experience in Kosovo will better prepare these service members for missions within Alaska and future deployments overseas.
Palin has no say on deployments overseas, and stateside she can’t even tell them how to fight forest fires. More mularky from the Palin staff. Try as she might her commander in chief role is severly limited.
Sorry-
Posted this in the wrong thread.
Just a video/song, that GINO would never in a million years comprehend.
Sarah & Meg COMEDY TOUR, so real it’s funny…
off to bed for me…in the morning need to sort out the funeral arrangement/details for for my stepdaughter.
“Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė took part in the ceremony marking the end of mission of the Lithuanian platoon having operated successfully under NATO KFOR for ten years June 26, Kosovo. ”
“While in Camp Bondsteel Lithuanian Minister met with the Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin visiting the US forces. High officials met for a discussion on participation of their countries in international operations. ”
http://tinyurl.com/kp5dda
Looking svelte and sexy as always, Alaska’s Governor wore a grey t-shirt and brown cargo pants accessorized with well-worn Danskos and a lovely silver crucifix.
Everybody else was dressed formally or in uniform.
Palin “tweeted”:
“Met w Lithuanian Minister of Defense, Rasa Jukneviciene. She’s a conservative in Parliament here for Change of Command & peacekeeping exercz”
Um, no, sweetie, the Minister of Defence was there for a NATO KFOR ceremony and international operations talks.
Gosh, doesn’t Meg brief you before you walk into stuff?!
Worth reposting from the other thread.
Vice President Visits Kosovo
6/17/2009
CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – Vice President Joe Biden visited the troops at Camp Bondsteel in an effort to boost the morale of the Soldiers stationed here and to show support for the Kosovo Force mission.
The KFOR 11 soldiers represent some of the best Soldiers to offer from California, Texas, Maryland, West Virginia, and Alaska. The vice president recognized each state and got a roaring cheer from the National Guard Soldiers.
Biden’s visit to Camp Bondsteel was the last stop on a three-day trip to the Balkans where he visited three different countries.
Biden talked about what an opportunity Kosovo is and reaffirmed his support of the mission and how it acts as an example of freedom and democracy.
He stressed the U.S. Soldier’s primary mission is to secure freedom of movement for the people of Kosovo and how the KFOR mission does much more than that.
“You’re literally building a free, vibrant, productive society from the ground up,” said Biden, KFOR Soldiers are working with nongovernmental organizations, international donor organizations, to complete local improvement projects that change the lives of the Kosovo people.
Biden ended his speech to the Soldiers with heartfelt words on the work of the American Soldiers and their continued dedication to KFOR, freedom, and the United States.
Some of the Soldiers who were present for Biden’s speech were impressed that a member of the Obama administration took the time to personally come to Kosovo to thank them for what they are doing.
“We have his support while we’re here promoting freedom, and it was very encouraging thing for him to come out here to let the troops know in person our vice president, on behalf of our president is behind us,” said Sgt. 1st Class Maria Weaver, a Soldier from Alaska.
…and THAT’S why the Governor of Alaska is in Kosovo…
