Morning Odds and Ends

Begich-Gate?  Oh, wait.  Begich – Gates! Good grief.  Mark Begich has been a busy man.  One day jetting off to Afghanistan as a member of the Armed Services Committee to visit troops and meet Hamid Karzai, then back to Alaska to give Secretery of Defense Robert Gates a nickel tour of the missile defense site at Ft. Greely.  [...]

I haven’t mentioned it until now, but I enjoyed attending the Democratic fundraiser last week over at Cafe del Mundo.  There were lots of people in attendence, and great fun was had by all.  I got some nice shots to add to the “Brian the Moose Wall of Fame.”  I’ll post them up here as [...]

There are currently 25 applicants seeking a position on the Alaska Supreme Court.  The Judicial Council will narrow the field, and submit a shorter list of names to the governor from which she must choose. One of those 25 applicants is a fellow named Craig Stowers.  He’s also the judge who has been working on [...]

Court May Force Governor to Accept Stimulus Money.

I’m sorry.   I couldn’t resist.  I did it to you again.  I’m not talking about Governor Palin, but I have to confess, as this story has unfolded, I keep playing a fun imagination game in which I insert other names and different pronouns into the story.  See, South Carolina, which is in desperate need of stimulus [...]

International Relations and Minty Fresh Breath!

The following product is now being marketed by a local gift wholesaler in Anchorage. It seems that the t-shirts and hoodies are going so well, there’s been a demand for mints and chocolate bars with the same theme.  Collect ‘em all! It’s good to know what the tourists want.

Open Thread – A Strange Visitor

Spouse was working in the garage yesterday morning. I heard a call. “Come here and check this out! Bring your camera!” Not exactly what I expected to hear, considering he was fixing a wobbly tire on the car. Wondering what it could be, I went out to look. The garage door was open, and I [...]

Getting “Ford Tough” on Fox News.

So, what to do.  The man who was the object of Bill O’Reilly’s vitriol is now dead. And O’Reilly is now, officially an unrepentant instigator, a terrorist muse of sorts.  Here’s what he had to say about the incident. When I heard about Tiller’s murder, I knew pro-abortion zealots and Fox News haters would attempt [...]

Rural Update – Report from the Flood Zone

I just got a report from Mudflatter AK Independent who was on the ground in Eagle, and other villages recently.  Thanks for keeping us posted. Hope, who delivered a truckload of supplies to Eagle yesterday is back home and safe.  She says she’s taken lots of pictures, and will be providing a writeup in the next couple [...]
