[...] All of the recent public donnybrooks have taken their toll: First the article by Mark Purdum in Vanity Fair and then the even nastier revelations of emails leaked by the McCain campaign which showed her to be an utter liar regarding her husband Todd’s membership in the Alaska Independent Party. Even the seemingly innocuous interview in Runner’s World, with its bizarre, braggadocio boast of her having more endurance than Obama, revealed her penchant for duplicity at every turn: the assertion that an injury she had sustained while jogging in Arizona had been kept top-secret, a contention thoroughly disputed by the inimitable Mudflats.
saurkraut: I don't know much about DS babies. I don't know if he has neurological issues, physical issues, etc. My GUT tells me that as young as Trig is, being jostled about might not be good for him.

It's great if your child has a great time in a jogger, but is it equally wise for a "special needs" child who might have issues that make it more dangerous?

I disagree about "stooping" to the peelander level. He gave some grossly inappropriate retort, which I will post later.

Bottom line is that he was responsible for the photo being distributed to the masses, whether SP selected it or not. He COULD have said "We have standards, and publishing that photo goes over the line". He chose not to and should be held accountable. Instead, he is passing the buck to the Anonymous Photo Editor, being rude, and not answering legitimate questions.

I'll post the entire conversation when I have time to put it all together. There's probably 30 emails back and forth. I want to take out email addresses and such... just haven't gotten to it yet.

Pepperzmom: I responded with something akin to that had I SEEN other objectionable photos, I would be upset as well. However, a non-military (doesn't know the "rules") runner having an impromptu moment of "patriotism" and using the flag inappropriately is far different from the Gov of AK staging the desecration, especially when she has a son on active duty, and then having it published for personal gain.

As for the responses re RW, I am an actual RW subscriber. And I've indicated to them that I will not be renewing my subscription due their insertion of politics into the sport. Some of the stuff above is worthy of peelanders. Let's not stoop to their level with the pettiness.

Re: Trig and jogging: I just don’t think it’s good for a little one, just a year old, to be jostled about like that. Can’t be good for his little developing body.
________

Look, I know some of youse really do not like Palin, but let's leave the kid out of this. And let's not go overboard with the criticisms by suggesting that putting a baby in a jogger is bad for the kid. I've seen hundreds of kids in joggers and nearly all of them look very content, my own included. It's an unfair criticism.

Response from RW (obviously, they are in the tank for Palin):

Seriously? Thursday, July 2, 2009 6:57 AM
From: “Remy, Mark” Add sender to Contacts

“I will never again purchase your publication, nor will I read contributions of your publication online. I am encouraging legions of others to follow suit.”

Really?

Are you similarly outraged when we run photos of sweaty elite runners who drape the American flag around their shoulders after a race?

And if not, why not?

Just curious.

Best regards,
Mark

Samper...a bit late, but here's the perfect response:

No, I normally don't get upset with an athlete celebrating with a flag. Why am I not upset over an athlete draping him/herself with the flag after competing? Because, they are REPRESENTING their country and their pride in their country.

Palin was only representing herself, as usual.

You of all people, given the fact that you cover so many races, should know better.

- - - - - - -

Now as for Mr. Snippy....sounds like RW is being hammered with negative feedback over their "coverage" of SP. Not only were the photos a poor representation of the flag, they also showed nothing of SP actually...running, never mind jogging or even walking. Just posed shots, likely photoshopped.

So he comes back with: “Susie”, Take care, Mark.

My response to THAT was:

What’s the matter? Your journalistic prowess leaves you at a loss of words?

You must KNOW that I’m right, or you would come up with some sort of logical defense to your actions.

And that’s Ms. “Smith” to you. Didn’t your mother teach you about the flag OR manners?
------------------------
I read your original letter, and felt it was appropriate and fairly restrained. Well worth noting, and likely to receive a respectful response. No doubt you are merely trying to amuse us with this and the other personal exchange you report.

If Palin is such a big runner why is she completely MIA for the Alaska Run for Women? 5000 women running/walking/raising money to support the fight against breast cancer. I don't find she's ever participated. Too busy promoting herself to promote a good cause.

My take on the band-aid "lie" ... I think she is referring to the need for stitches. Perhasp SS said let's ge have that looked at and she said no I'll pass. (I want battle scars) and carried on with teh band-aid. HAS she ever physically fallen in publci? That would be something to see , not that I wish it upon her.

152: that is a jogging stroller from what it looks like. I am sure he is belted down and appears to have eye goggles on to protect from any flying stones/ dirt/water. I think it's fine to run with a baby on a safe surface. Tahnsk god she does spend some time with him, although they could just be "prop" photos.
