Open Thread – Moment of Zen

2 07 2009

What a day.  Fingers sore, brain cluttered…. Reminded me of one of those days during the campaign.  It’s time for a moment of Zen.  Here are some beautiful Alpine Dogwoods and ferns.  Enjoy.

And don’t forget, this thread stays open ALL DAY until tomorrow about this time.  So if you’re tempted to make an off-topic comment or share a fabulous link on another thread, just come here, the magical thread where you can never be off topic!  I’ve gotten quite a few emails since I started doing the open thread, stating how nice it is to have the comments on each post pertinent to that topic, and yet still have the freedom to be off-the-cuff and current on the open thread.  I agree, and think it makes everything much more readable.  Thanks, everyone!

The whole “McCain & Palin Authorized the Search of Emails to Find the Leak” story is just SO on the mark for Sarah! It’s the FIRST thing she wants to know if someone has crossed her – WHO? She’s walking right into the trap that will assist greatly in her undoing, a trap of her own making. She can’t let anything go!

Here’s what the fly on the wall reported back to me, buzzing wildly:

“JOHN? ARE YOU THERE JOHN? THIS IS SARAH!”

“I’m not deaf, Sarah – I’m just old and I can’t jog. What do you want?”

‘I WANT THE HEAD, AND THE BLOODY HANDS AND FEET OF THE PERSON WHO TOLD ON ME! YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD PROTECT ME! YOUR CAMPAIGN STAFFERS ARE EVIL, LIBERAL, BLOGGING, SNEAKY, JEALOUS AND I’M HOPPING MAD!”

“Oh, that stuff again? What’s it worth to you for me to give the OK to start the witch hunt? I’m kinda tired from wading in the creek right now. Witch hunting is exhausting.”

“OH JOHN YOU BIG JOKING YOU KNOW WHAT! ARE YOU TEASING ME?”

“No, wouldn’t dream of it. I’m as serious as a heart attack.”

“HEART ATTACK? DID i HEAR YOU SAY YOU WERE HAVING A HEART ATTACK? DAMN, WHY COULDN’T YOU HAVE DONE THAT DURING THE ELECTION? i WOULD BE QUEEN OF THE WORLD BY NOW!”

“No heart attack! Now I really want something in return for the witch hunt, you bi1tch. What’s it gonna be?”

“I’ll GIVE YOU MY NEXT BORN GRANDCHILD. I HAVE TOO MANY KIDS TO KEEP UP WITH THESE DAYS ANYWAY. I HAVE JUST ENOUGH OF THEM TO BABYSIT THE OTHER ONES PLUS THEIR OWN AND IT GETS CONFUSING AROUND HERE ABOUT WHO IS DOING WHAT. ALSO, TOO THE GIRLS ARE GETTING TOO PRETTY AND I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT THAT, ALSO, TOO BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING IN MY WAY NOW.”

“Oh no – not more kids! They’ll just start blogging and they might turn liberal. I’ll just do it as a favor this one time so that you don’t throw me under the bus right away, OK?”

“OK JOHN! WANNA GO JOGGING???????? HAAAAAAHHHAAAA!”

@#272 justafarmer – no it’s not just you – I think everyone has gotten a lot heavier over the last 20 yrs (including the young ones!) and they are trying to flatter them/us… I’m fairly small – wore 7/8 when I was 110#s & now wear 5/6 which can be loose sometime at 125#s…
    I can’t believe I just owned up to that…

    FINALLY FOUND IT~~~

I’ve been going through old files looking for the name of this video and finally found it. (now that I see the name of it I think ..duh why didn’t I just try that, but I had thought it was named something totally unrelated. Turns out that unrelated name is how I found the video in the first place, and that is what I was remembering)

AIP Meeting in October of 2007 with Dexter and Lynette Clark. At the 6 minute mark, Dexter is telling everyone that Palin was indeed a member of the AIP before she became Mayor of Wasilla.

Now take into account that this was before she was considered even an option as the running mate for McCain, and they are talking about this at their meeting.

All this talk of throbbing thighs is bunk. Nobody gets “runner’s throb”.

She made it up. Like she makes everything else up.

#280 – lovemydogs – Nice list. Here’s my crack at answering those questions:

    1) I become somewhat “unhinged” when anyone would like to cram their religious views down my throat with legislation. I’m entitled to my own religious views, thanks to our very wise founding fathers, and I take them seriously.

    2) When the most qualified person is a woman, real feminists want her to get the job. When a woman who isn’t qualified gets it, they know it undermines the credibility of all women. A woman who has worked hard to get where she is doesn’t want people wondering if she got her job based on her merits, or if it was something else.

I am certain Lynette Clark walked that back later.

That one statement, later retracted, is the only claim I have ever seen that Sarah was a member of the AIP. We are better off talking about her close association with AIP and AIP members, and Todd’s membership for 7 years, instead of making a claim that is easily deniable about her alleged membership.

It shows up in the account now. But I’m told I can’t draw on it for 5 business days. Because I deposited it late Tuesday and Friday is a holiday, that means it doesn’t “clear” until Thursday, July 9.

According to them the check was good. They checked the account it was drawn on and there was money in the account. That would be the Washington Mutual bank in Delaware that issued the cashier’s check.

What are they expecting? That Washington Mutual in Delaware will go bankrupt in four days? Or that a stop payment will be made. If it can’t be stopped, I don’t understand the delay. A cashier’s check is supposed to be same as cash. Isn’t it?

I’m sure you have this resolved by now, but my sister is correct. This is about WaMu, a wonderful, customer-friendly bank, being eaten by Chase/Stanley because of the financial meltdown. I was a happy WaMu customer for almost 10 years. The only bank I ever loved, much less liked. After some similar problems with check holds when Chase finally got around to its California branches (they’ve been screwing with the various states one state at a time), I closed my account and told them in no uncertain terms that I wasn’t going to be a customer of Chase, because they are just like every other sucky bank on the planet. My husband has stuck with them for now, but has given them an earful. He may switch to a local credit union soon.

    How interesting.

I had an AARP credit card through Chase. They upped the interest rate for no reason whatsoever (I know, we’ve all experienced this from the meltdown) despite the fact that I am steadily employed, not about to lose my job and pay on time and have never been late or overstepped my limit.

I’m paying the Chase card off with the money I made from the car and closing the account. I’m just waiting for the money to clear to do it. And I’m pi$$sed that I have to wait an extra 5 days (with interest) to do it.

I’ll only have one credit card left after that. Through my credit union. I has a fixed rate.
