The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

PALIN RESIGNS

Yes, it’s true.  Governor Sarah Palin, at a hastily called press conference this morning, has announced that she will be stepping down from office on July 25, and turning the reins over to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell “for the good of Alaska.”  She’s turning the state over to the guy she didn’t even trust to run things during her failed VP campaign.  She chose to govern by Blackberry, while simultaneously speed reading “Politics for Dummies,” making rhetoric-filled speeches to hopped up conservatives, and being a full-time mom on the campaign trail.  And still she didn’t leave the state to Sean Parnell.  But now, apparently, something is different.

The media is all in a tizzy trying to figure out what’s going on.

Eddie Burke is busy talking to Sean Hannity telling him that Palin’s resignation is a brilliant tactical move cleverly hatched to thwart her enemies.  Clearly this demonstrates her political smarts.  “Now what will they do?” he wonders.  “They won’t have anything to complain about!”   Yes, brilliant.  She’s really thwarted them now.  Why didn’t George Bush use that strategy, we wonder?

Of course, those who have been follwing the Alaska blogosphere closely are aware of the rumors bubbling up that there’s something big…something really big that’s headed her way;  the iceberg that’s headed for the S.S. Palin.  We’ll see.

Meanwhile what we do know is that Palin has littered her bizarre resignation speech with references to ethics complaints, Photoshopping bloggers, the military, Alaska history, a recap of the administration and a hodge podge of other topics.  She delivered the speech with the same adrenaline-filled jaw clenching intensity that she had when she returned from the campaign trail and settled back in to the governor’s office.

And we know that she delivered this speech from her own home, a few hours before the start of a holiday weekend.  Not the time to announce something you want the media to focus on.

The news will be breaking for a while, and she will by no means fade out of the media spotlight.  And as for Eddie Burke’s concern that those who oppose Palin will have nothing to do?  I’m about to go enjoy a barbeque!

Leave comments here, and I’ll check back in as more news becomes available.

Apologies for server issues.  The Mudflats was swamped!

*******************************UPDATES
Okay, I’ve now been able to get independent information from multiple sources that all of this precedes what are said to be possible federal indictments against Palin, concerning an embezzlement scandal related to the building of Palin’s house and the Wasilla Sports Complex built during her tenure. Both structures, it is said, feature the “same windows, same wood, same products.” Federal investigators have been looking into this for some time, and indictments could be imminent, according to the Alaska sources.   From Brad Blog

“I don’t think this is buckling to pressure,” said Ayers. “I think this is her coming to the realization that the legislature in Alaska and that some bloggers and activists in Alaska are going to do everything they can to stymie her progress. This is a governor who didn’t run for the office because she wanted a title. She wanted to make significant change in the state. She realized that that was no longer going to be able to happen, because things had become so partisan there.”  From HuffPo

Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse issued a statement characterizing Palin’s resignation as “bizarre behavior”:

Either Sarah Palin is leaving the people of Alaska high and dry to pursue her long shot national political ambitions or she simply can’t handle the job now that her popularity has dimmed and oil revenues are down. Either way, her decision to abandon her post and the people of Alaska who elected her continues a pattern of bizarre behavior that more than anything else may explain the decision she made today.   From The Daily Beast

Watching the family scene at her house on the raw video running on CNN right now, it is obvious that little knowledge about this was shared ahead of time, no matter what Palin said in the conference itself.

What we are seeing here is either a preface to some indictment, or the final chapter in the career of what has been the biggest political joke of the 21st century. She is so obviously a combination of extreme narcissism and even more extremely bad advice by really, really pathetically bad advisors.

Andrea Mitchell is now being reported as claiming Palin has told some close to her that she is through with politics.    From Firedoglake

    Just got back from the beach. Hubby and I had a nice day, Sarah Palin free. The only fog we saw was because there was an on-shore flow and the high pressure wasn’t enough to blow that pesky fog out to sea.

    I wonder if we will really have a more peaceful time once she’s done, or if she’s going to just keep turning up everywhere else.

    OK – here’s something to think about. Palin resigns so Sean takes over – I thought she had changed the succession order recently, putting her high school buddy the Head of Prisons in the next spot? So why is General Campbell going to be Lt. Gov? From what I hear, Gen Campbell is cut from the same narcissistic and delusional cloth. Is Gen Campbell the choice of the Rethugs to run for AK Governor in 2010?

    Was Randy Ruedrick ( head of AK GOP) involved in all of this? He was just on MSNBC.

    After hugging and high-fiving the somewhat startled boy (the whooping and yelling took him quite by surprise) I flew out the door, bought a bottle of wine and am back the desk.

    If I could, I would be hugging and high fiving all of you and I imagine a scene similar to the iconic (yes , I said it) scene in Times Square at the end of World War II. I know it doesn’t come close in importance but right now – I don’t mind being over the top with exaggeration.

    Where was Trig? I kept wondering where Trig was throughout the 18 minutes of Palin’s rambling disjointed speech. During the campaign he seemed to be her favorite accessory but now even Piper seems to have abandoned her little brother. A couple of times the camera pulled away for a wide angle — but no Trig. There were some off-camera babbling-baby sounds at the beginning of the MSNBC clip in the background but it was not clear whether they were from Trig or Bristol’s little one.

    Also, too, Sarah Palin seemed uncharacteristically nervous and perhaps a little teary-eyed, looking away from the camera at times. Not usual for the pageant-walking former sportscaster.

    It will only get worser and worser for her.

    Is there something in those emails between Eddie and Palin that would make her step down ahead of the media?

Receiving line hugs as she tottered on the red shoes (heels on grass??!) from one relative to the next after the speech – a little odd that she didn’t stand still and have them come to her for the hugs….but the whole thing is just so odd it seems like a smart choice on Bristol Willow and Trig’s part to be elsewhere.

Five minutes later, my son called. “I can’t believe I am doing this,” he says (he is disparaging of my obsession with Palin news; he refuses to discuss any of it with me) but “Mom, have you heard the news? And, oh, by the way, Mudflats is crashed! Too many people,” he reports. I tried anyway. I blogged on as many of the other sites as I could. I left the office, bought wine, ribs, bread. Then I returned and read some more. (BTW: I did finally listen and make notes on the first CD’s information.) Going home now – wow! Happy Independence Day Alaskan friends and all others too. Don’t get too comfortable, kids.

    The timing. Hmmm. She says this was planned and discussed.
    Todd flew back from Bristol Bay fishing LAST NIGHT. The peak of the season is July 4, with the volume of the run of salmon for the entire season, the first week of July. It’s over by July 15.
    So he flew back last night, during a fishing period, an extension today and probably more fishing time expected tomorrow. Numbers show a push of fish, clearly fish are moving.

    Westside Salmon Announcement 25
    This is Westside salmon announcement number 25 issued Thursday, July 2 at 12:00 p.m.
    Commercial fishing with set gillnets in the Nushagak and Igushik Sections is extended 25 hours until 10:00 p.m. July 3.
    Commercial fishing with drift gillnets in the Nushagak and Igushik Sections of the Nushagak District will be allowed for 8 hours from 1:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. July 3, and again in the Nushagak and Igushik Sections of the Nushagak District for 8 hours, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. July 3.
    The escapement in the Wood River yesterday was 43,000 and 45,000 this morning, for a cumulative of 548,000. The Nushagak sockeye escapement was 33,000 yesterday, for a cumulative of 272,000, and the Nushagak king escapement was 2,100, for a cumulative of 64,300. The unapportioned counts at 6:00 a.m. are 8,600. The Igushik River escapement yesterday was 14,800 sockeye and 6,600 so far this morning, for a total of 57,700.

    Oop, there is is:
    This is Westside salmon announcement number 27 issued Friday, July 3 at 3:00 p.m. Commercial fishing with set gillnets in the Nushagak and Igushik Sections is extended until further notice.

    Naw. Couldn’t have been planned for Todd to blow off fishing July 2nd.
    I missed my grandmother’s funeral because we were out fishing. My dad missed my brother’s birth.
    It just doesn’t work that way, it’s a one-shot deal. You’re either there or no season. You can’t make it up some other time. Why would he have bothered to gear-up for fishing, make the investment in being there and preparing for fishing, if he wasn’t going to be there for these few decisive peak days?

    He flew home for some kind of a really big huge deal. She says she consulted her kids who unanimously voted in favor of whatever the next adventure is, and she said she’ll discuss the details of this at another time. Hmmm.

    Something incompatible with being the governor:
    a. A sweet gig in the entertainment biz
    b. Campaigning for president (A real campaign, not just 60 days at the end of someone else’s.)
    c. A run for senator

    She’s not a quitter and public opinion is unimportant to her. She never does anything that there isn’t something in it for HER. Someone has offered her a really cool awesome opportunity. She isn’t going to blink – she’s taking it!

So much so, that she didn’t even have her perennial prop, Trigg, on display with the other children as she babbled on. Very odd.

    ““““
    [Here's what I posted in the other thread]

    Someone, somewhere, was getting WAY too close to uncovering/exposing something…

    Sarah is MUCH too savvy to just up and quit. She knows leaving a position -let alone the position of Gov- won’t look good on her resume.

    And money? Money, schmoney – this whole thing smells too much for it to be a mere case of her wanting to cash in NOW on her ‘magnetism and charm’ – there’s something else, something really big, a-brewin’.

    That was one strange speech. Forgive me, I do not wish to cast a shadow on Mrs. Palin’s fine character, but I have a brother who was a meth addict for 10 years. She was wired on something, and if it isn’t meth, it’s something very close. She was grinding, and bad. I bet she wore off about 1/6″ of enamal on the occlusive surfaces of her teeth during that speech.

    Y’all have some really good questions here, and previously. I’m particular interested in the obvious nature of last week being completely Palin-Normal (you know, constantly trying to get the media to pay attention) and now suddenly she resigns.

    So History Goddess’ question was like a lightbulb that went off: “If this was in the works for awhile, why did she waste the money going to Kosovo?”

    INDEED.

    Going to Kosovo was a big set-up for her “foreign-policy” chops. No one would waste that kind of expense and set-up to prove foreign-polic experience unless there was a good reason…and I don’t think resigning as governor quite fits the bill for that reason.

    OK, I just listened to her speech. Weird, that one. She kept talking about we and our but it sounded like she was referring to herself. I thought only the queen of England used the plural. Well, we all know that SP things she IS the queen. . .

    And she kept bouncing up and down. Reminded me of Rush in that clip that Olberman always uses. Bet he picks up on that – or I hope he does.

    Wouldn’t it be refreshing if she had just said – “This job was much more than I thought it would be, and I’ve realized that I am not able to continue. I have my children to think of and have decided that, in THEIR best interest, I’m resigning.”

    She would’ve scored a lot more points with everyone if she had just said that and left out the snippy comments blaming her demise on everyone picking on her. She really doesn’t get it.

    So with the time she spent on the VP campaign trail and the time she wasn’t in the governor’s office, has anyone figured out just how many days she actually served of this shortened term in office? Did Alaska actually get at least one year’s worth of time from her?

    The camera person was given a poke, and quickly switched to a closeup shot of Sarah’s face. In addition to the duck and geese noise in the background, Trig babbled a little. The next time that I looked up (I can only take so much) Trig was out of the picture, and Piper and Todd stood on one side of Sarah. Piper was pretty restless and uncomfortable. It was also strange that following the speech, Sarah went around and hugged everyone, including some of the other children (who were they?) . It wasn’t a very big crowd; MSNBC put the crowd at something between 12-15 people.

    No one does this on Friday afternoon before the 4th of July. You can bury a story on Friday but not this story. And not the way she did it. Shoes, boots, waders, body casts are about to drop.

And now she can openly and proudly own the clothes, yea!

    And she gets to avoid any loss of income from Arctic Cat, Spenard Builders Supply, Fairbanks Gold Company, etc.
    Plus, now she won’t have to pay any fines for ethics violations.
    My belief (with nothing to back it up) is that the legal debt was actually covered by the outside organization that was advising her in the first place, and sent attorneys up here to “defend” the case, the Liberty Institute and Family Foundation. Replying to CG’s great post, part of which is quoted here:

    “Something incompatible with being the governor:
    a. A sweet gig in the entertainment biz
    b. Campaigning for president (A real campaign, not just 60 days at the end of someone else’s.)
    c. A run for senator”

    The only thing that makes some big GOOD thing happening is that, if she was going to run for something, or if she had signed a deal with Fox to be –whatever–she would have made that part of the announcement of her leaving office as governor.

    Pain may be many things, but “coy” isn’t one of them. She’s beyond obnoxious in her name-dropping and bragging. If she was resigning to go to a better position (like working for Fox, where no one would give a rat’s patoot if she read a newspaper, and would care even less if she just pulled stuff out of her kiester and presented it as “fact”–in fact, that’s The Fox Way), she would have crowed about it. If she was going to run for office, she would have announced that, too.

    Also, CG gave great insight to realities in Alaska that this Californian is clueless about, particularly fishing. Why, indeed, did Todd fly home and miss the season? Why couldn’t Sarah have waited until he was done, home, rested, and through filleting and freezing?

    This sounds like an urgent, nearly “emergency” resignation, and I don’t think it’s for something good.

    She would have to run against Hollis French whose investigation of troopergate found her guilt of abuse of power. She must know the election would have been bloody for her.

    She can now relax about taking the money for the book deal and doesn’t have to worry about another ethics complaint. The timing may have all to do with this.

    She can travel wherever she wants, whenever she wants. She can support whatever cause she wants without infringing on her duties as GOV. Since she can’t seem to understand what is required of her in her position, this will ease her mind.

    It will have to wait for the 2012 election for the dirt to come out. She will be clean until then as far as political races go.

    Head over to http://www.faa.gov, click on the link under Pilots > Search Airman Certificates. Next page, hit the link “Search Airmen Certificate Information”. Fill out some information, then when you finally get to the search page, enter Todd Palin and Wasilla. Should come up with just one item. And you’ll notice that Todd is only rated for “Single Engine Land”

    That means every time he flies his float plane he’s committing an FAA violation, and it gets worse if he has any passengers with him.

She doesn’t like her life. She feels that she needs to raise her family. She’s sick of the commute from Wasilla to the capital. And she really does not want to run for higher office, that this is not a case where she is stepping down in order to clear the way for a presidential run. In fact, she has told some of her biggest backers in the national Republican Party that they are free to choose other candidates for 2012, which of course opens new avenues for Mitt Romney, for Tim Pawlenty, for other potential candidates who are definitely in the running.”

    I live in NYC, not Alaska, so I don’t know how much about local Alaska politics, but she sounded far more nervous to me in today’s speech than she did during any of the VP debates, and that makes me think there is something she is hiding and something very rushed about this (despite her remark that the decision had been in the works for a while). My first thought — based on her comments re: the world needs more Trigs and re: going outside of government — was that she is going to head some anti-abortion group, and try to rebuild her image and focus her supporters that way. But who knows, her speech was such incoherent word soup, and her repeated cryptic comments re: “wasting millions of dollars” make more sense if there is an indictment coming. And if that’s true, I can’t *wait* to see what she’ll do to raise money for her legal bills. She’ll be rasslin’ a moose on Pay-per-View by this time next year . . .

    OK, everyone has had a good laugh. Here’s a serious question. Just how many governors resign from office, and under what circumstances? There was the guy in New Jersey who had a wife and a boy friend. There was NY Governor Spitzer who got himself in big trouble with you-know-who. But I don’t get it. Nobody just walks away from a job because they don’t want to be a lame duck. Plenty of people in public office finish their term of office even though they won’t run in the next election. (Remember President Johnson who decided not to run for office again, but chose to try to work out the problems in Vietnam).

    My first reaction was that Sarah wants to take on something more financially rewarding: book deal, TV gig. Now, I tend to think the rumors of an investigation regarding Sports Complex & Palin House Deals are going to require time and money. And, it would be quite an embarrassment to deal with that investigation while in office.

    I don’t believe for a moment that ethics complaints, Letterman’s jokes, pajama clad bloggers, defiled baby photos and critical articles hounded her from office. If we had that kind of power, I can think a a dozen more folks who deserve our electronic slings and arrows. So, other than a governor who resigns because of a scandal or serious illiness, just how many other governors just walk away after 2 and a half years?

Then she’s going to take on the lower 48.

    And I’m thinking…is she going to go to every church in the lower 48 states too? Gee, that’s going to take awhile……

    Interesting read re: “Palin as Figurehead”

    “A fairly persuasive theory of leadership called the ‘Social Contagion’ theory, postulates that leadership functions not through the leader but through the followers. Ideas spread like the flu (a contagion) that the followers catch. In order for a movement to break through to a larger audience, the followers require a figurehead. Palin is that figurehead for the aggrieved fundamentalist right.”

    Refers to Troopergate scandal – which is old news.
    Quotes Anchorage Daily News as saying Troopergate costs were near $300,000 – that is the figure for all the ethics complaints – not just Troopergate.
    “Meanwhile, The Daily Beast’s Max Blumenthal reports that Todd Palin’s snowmobile sponsor, Spenard Building Supplies, may have been mixed up in questionable political and Palin family business.” – Spenard Builders is just one of the sponsors and not a major one. As we all know, Arctic Cat is the primary sponsor. I shop there, and I could be wrong, but they just don’t seem like they would be involved in politicis – and for that matter, the family doesn’t have a business, per se.

    She never did seem to really grok that being a politician was not only about getting attention and accumulating wealth. There have been, and always will be, crooked politicians but even shady politicos know that they have to, um, govern and maintain a strict appearance of impropriety.

    Sadly, I think her real falling is that she rose too quickly. If her rise had been slower, she might have learned better how to hide her petty grabs.

    I can’t wait to see what the iceberg is. If she is about to be indicted, it’s not going to matter if she is in or out of office. If federal prosecutors have a case against her, her resignation won’t stop it.

    I admit I feel a little sorry for her. Sure, she is hoisted on her own petard. If she hadn’t been dishonest and, let’s face it, stupid, she wouldn’t be in whatever mess she is in. She could have had a fine career in politics if she had done exactly what she said she would do when she first started running: eliminate corruption and govern for the people, not for lobby influences.

    And yeah, she seemed kinda buzzed when she talked today. She talked way too fast, usually a sign of nervousness. I would imagine she has had plenty of training in how to give a speech. You talk a little slower, enunciate more carefully and you pause. If you really understand how to give a speech, you know that where you decide to pause, to let your listeners absorb what you have already said and then catch up with you, is key. Today she talked like a nervous high schooler giving her first public speech.

    I sure hope she is in some kind of scandal trouble. And I sure hope she’s gonna be off the national stage now . . . well, when her final scandals fades away.

    “It hurts to make this choice but I am doing what’s best for Alaska.”

    “I cannot stand here as your Governor and allow millions upon millions of our dollars go to waste just so I can hold the title of Governor.”

    Nope she didn’t resign because she wanted to – she resigned because she HAD to! I think she resigned because she would rather not be indicted while still the Governor and then have to resign after the fact.

    OR

    She made a deal and part of the deal was she resign now. I really don’t think this is a sex scandal. I think this is serious stuff go to jail stuff.

    And the house thing really makes the most sense. The whole house thing smelled like dead fish from the beginning. Starting with her revoking all the building permits laws so no one could track who did what, to her political cohorts getting the choice Wasilla sports Area contract, to the Palin family suddenly finding themselves in a luxury lakeside home that Todd built with a ‘few friends’, the whole think has always smelled rotten.

    Palin resignation shakes up Republican presidential prospects

    arah Palin launched a political grenade into the nascent Republican race for the next presidential nomination, yesterday, by announcing she was stepping down as Governor of Alaska.

    Beset by a seemingly endless stream of what she called frivolous ethical challenges and political controversies, Ms. Palin said she preferred to “take a stand and effect change” outside the governorship, rather than “just hit our head against the wall and waste valuable state time and money.”

    Even us little old Canadians are dancing with joy.

    BigSlickNo Gravatar says:

    “I cannot stand here as your Governor and allow millions upon millions of our dollars go to waste just so I can hold the title of Governor.” – GINO Palin

    This is the clue to solve the riddle. Since we know her legal bills don’t add up to millions yet, what would cause her to predict bills to the State of this size? She expects all hell to break loose, something much bigger than anything she has ever faced before, to come at her. And quickly.

    Lawsuits against her, and against the State? I believe HouseGate may be something she has to deal with personally, but I believe there is something coming that has it’s roots in an some action she took in her role as Governor. An action that will draw the fire of someone else who is willing to spend millions on a legal attack.

    Think of the possibilities:

    1) A major oil company? BP, Exxon, TransCanada, others?

    2) A Federal Agency that decides to sue her and the State?

    3) A major political party or campaign organization for a political candidate?

    4) An organized Class Action lawsuit?

    5) A criminal indictment….

    Any combination of the above or other things I might have missed might be the true reason for her actions.

    One thing is for sure, nobody is going to resign as a first-term (ONLY term) Governor and expect to win the Republican nomination to run for POTUS in 2012 — unless they are insane or brain-damaged or both.

    So she may very well still think she is running for President.

    Fred Malek, a Republican strategist who has advised Palin over the past year, said Palin was “really unhappy with the way her life was going”.

    “She felt that the pressures of the job combined with her family obligations and the demands and desires to help other Republican candidates led her to decide not to run again. Once that decision was made, she realised, why not do it now and let the lieutenant governor take over and get a head start on his election,” Malek said.

    Having been flipping around different sites to find vids of different people talking, etc., I came across a story on msnbc regarding all the emails requests filed by networks and news publications, the same request made by Andrea when they were conducting state business on personal yahoo accounts. MSNBC had a quote from Palin’s office at one time for these at $15 Million!!! WHAT?? It, like Celtic Diva’s, has ratcheted down to $5 to $10 thousand. Seems Alaska, as much as they are whining about the time, resources, staff freeze, etc, are making it a resource of income in the Gov’s office as there were 13 requests for these. If they are charging each one the same price for the same search, not a bad job if you can get it. That to me is something the networks and others should get together on as it seems to be another violation as it’s then only going to entail photocopying after the initial searching.

    Alaska Trust Fund———-
    Here is a question though : What about the ” Alaska Trust Fund”…?
    She is NOT the Governor of AK and so she should NOT be able to use the name of Alaska for her fundraising in my mind. She does NOT represent AK.
    Somebody needs to shut that Fund down…. before Kristan Cole can take the money and put it away as well.
    ~~~~~~~~
    she shouldn’t of been allowed to use the name anyway! Total Fraud. This fund has nothing to do with the people of Alaska, except of course her own family!!!!!!
    But having said that, this was too rushed of an announcement….what did she find out this week that is sooo bad she has to resign?
    CNN (AC) was grilling her MIA (in “upstate NY”) spokesperson tonight. Paraphrased “she promised Alaskans 4 years…and they get 2? That is NOT leadership” Stapleton was saying that GINO had soooo many offers today to do this and that now that she was leaving. AC asks “like WHAT?     Man… all this Puppy Love just makes me wish I was with you guys in November when Grant Park in Chicago was just electric with enthusiasm!
    Not that I’m complaining! I was curled up on the couch, kitties by my side, adult beverage in hand and ROFLMAO at Palin holding back her tears that she wasn’t moving to DC. Classic! I watch it over and over when I need a good laugh. LOSER!
    For the record: I never once believed that having served as McCain did made him Presidential material. Admirable, yes, h/t to him for his service. But that does not a President make. And that Palin woman! What was he THINKING?????
    Then, equally nice was being curled up on the couch, kitties by my side, adult beverage in hand, all choked up, watching President ELECT Obama’s victory speech. God, what a night that was! I was out of my mind elated. I grabbed Boy Kitty (I freaked out Girl Kitty, who hid under the bed) and we danced around the living room while they played “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” No fear! The drapes were closed and I’m not being run out of the neighborhood! :-)
    OK, I’m a great big baby… on January 20th, I even shed a few tears thinking a huge RED weight had been lifted and the Great State of Michigan would soon experience relief with now PRESIDENT Obama’s agenda. I still feel it.
    I’m realistic enough to realize it takes time. Never once expected immediate and complete relief. But we, as a State, feel much better knowing he’s got our back.
    It’s still really bad here, but we have HOPE and all indicators say things are improving ever so slightly. Projects under the Stimulus Plan are kicking in and giving our workers a chance to WORK. Folks like me, however, have to wait our turn… I don’t know how to operate a HI-LO (road projects), but I’m confident a mid-mgmt job for a gal with an MBA is right around the corner.
    I hardly think we’d have this feeling of relief under the McCain/Palin ticket. No way. We’d all just leave the state and the last person out would just turn off the lights (energy conscience, we are!). Sadly, it’s a terrifically beautiful state to think of leaving. I’ve lived in HI, CA and NC and always come back to MI. Color me silly, but I love my state, my Gov, and my home.
    OH! And GE is moving in!!!! What could be better than GE MOVING INTO OUR STATE? Just a few more corporations moving in, is all we need! We already got Google… just a few more!!!! :-) It was a great day this week when that was announced!
    Still, it would have been awesome to have been here those nights with all ya’all. Even now, I can hear all your champagne corks flying!
    I don’t think this could even be comparable, but it’s really great to have a place to celebrate with like-minded folks. Thanks, Pups! “I heart all of you, man” (Reference the Bud (?) “I love you, Man” commercials) (had a few refreshing adult beverages tonite in celebration!). :-)
    I think it’s gotta be bigger than house-gate (which they could lie/squirm out of with a good atty). It’s bigger than Trigg-gate. It’s bigger than IRS-gate. None of these, singularly, are things that an EX (say it with me!) EX Gov will go to jail for. Fines up the wazoo, yes, but not jail. Not with Co-God Van Fleas on the job. And now, with the book deal, she can afford it. Damn! :-(
    BTW: She’s got to be RICH now, with SarahPac funds! The “morans” CONTINUE to donate today in “support”!
    It’s got to be something bigger. But then, I laid odds that today’s announcement would be a non-event and STILL owe you guys $1000 on that prediction! :-( Anyone for forgiving the debt of an unemployed gal in DETROIT?
    There is nothing that would give me more glee than a BONAFIDE charge against SP that has her doin’ the Perp Walk. She’s screwed so many and gotten away with it, this isn’t an unreasonable desire. FIRING THE HEALTH DEPT. FOLKS the same week she resigns? Is she KIDDING ME???????
    I wouldn’t want it to be something easily dismissed, but something PROVEN and BAD. JAIL BAD. But, our great country has nothing if we don’t have the whole “innocent until proven guilty” bit. I’ll defend to the death her right to representation, but I would hope that representation FAILS in disproving a legitimate charge. A BAD charge. A JAIL BAD charge.
    Maybe it’s just me… but there are so many corpses under the bus, I HAVE to believe that a murder charge could stick.
    Let’s all not forget our fellow bloggers, especially CD, who’s tireless efforts have led to national scrutiny of Palin’s behavior. And Shannyn, Andree, Gryphen, et al. I don’t want to leave anyone out, but CD and Andree really went the long mile with their determination. I haven’t even had a chance to jump to CS’s site to see her reaction. Will do so as soon as I hit “Submit”.
    AKM, what can we say? You kept everyone in the know and gave us a forum to espouse whatever what is on our minds. You, Snoskred, et al make this a “must do” on every single day’s “TO DO” list. MANY thanks! XOXOX.
    Last, but not least: While humbly saying he’s not all that “great”, our beloved Server Guy went above and beyond by answering a call at 3AM his time (in Japan, is it?) to make sure we could all share today. XOXOXOXOX to Server Guy…. not only for humility, but also, too, for waking up for us!
    Server Guy, et al: There is a warm home, good eats, libations abound if you’re ever in Detroit. Would love to host any/all of you!
    XOXOXO to all,
    Samper
    Aside/OT: August 1st is my birthday! Can I join all ya’all in NYC? I can just tell the pup hugs would be worth airfare alone! Would it be insane to try to hook this up with the Pitt Stop AKM and Shannyn will have for the convention mid-August?
    Next year, we MUST have CD included in the event… they have three rounds of nominations… One for AKM, one for Shannyn, one for CD.
    her breathing was very abnormal, especially for one who is used to giving public speeches. and very abnorrmal for her. and very abnormal for a runner, i would also think.
    granted, she was understandably very emotional, but … why would the anxiety level be much higher here than, say, the biden debate, or couric interview?
    my theory? she was, and to some extent probably still is, having an anxiety attack.
    sigmund freud hat on/ hate to tell her, but its not going to go away until she deals with the underlying issues behind the anxiety, like guilt about all the people shes thrown under the bus, guilt about all the rural alaskans who are going to have a very difficult time this winter whom she just effectively abandone and said ‘here Sean, you deal with it”, guilt sbout how she dragged Trig everywhere for photo ops but not one shread of photograhic evidence nor statement out of HER OWN MOUTH indicates that that boy has had any kind of the care (physical therapies, exercises, even evaluations), information that most parents of special needs kids would be clamoring for and thrilled to get, use and publicize. /hat off
