OK, now I’m really going.

I’m throwing up this open thread for you to keep the series of tubes unclogged.

There will be a new post up in a couple hours with more details about Palin’s millllions.  I’ve also got open threads and fun little tidbits scheduled throughout the weekend, including the Gold Medal winner of the Sarah Palin Book Naming Contest in graphic form from flyinureye, live blogging with Shannyn Moore tomorrow afternoon, Troll of the Week and more!

Have fun Mudpuppies, and play nice!  ;-)

    I don’t know if anybody has commented about this because I’ve given up on keeping up. Been off the computer all day. Anyway, this morning I started out trying to track down which “quote of the day” source dear Sarah has been using for her tweetie quotes. I knew she had taken the Cronkite quote out of context, and sure enough she did. Anyway…still haven’t found one that had both the Cronkite quote and the “Plato” quote because I ended up away from the computer again for the window replacing chaos going on in my house. But what should I see on Keith tonight but him bashing her for mis-attributing the Plato quote. So I looked that up, and again…yes, the quote was from somebody else but attributed to Plato on numerous “quote of the day” sites. Since the language of the quote doesn’t even faintly sound like Plato (I grew up with Plato readings), an intellectually curious person probably would have done a little more digging (took me two minutes to find this stuff out), but of course our dear Sarah takes things at face value and was just trying to sound deep. So kudos to KO for calling her on her silly tweetings. She can’t even manage to quote anybody correctly (another pattern of hers). Somebody might want to keep a running list of her “quotes,” as they seem to be her new way of talking on the ol’ tweet and bleat.

    I don’t have a television these days but a while back, six or eight years ago, I stumbled upon a show that had a camera following the Ozzy Osbourne family around. That was a lot of fun to watch. I think I would watch a show like that showing the Palin family. Even if you hate Palin, and I do, it would be fun to watch.

    The Palins have to make a living, after all, and I imagine Sarah has developed a taste for fancier things than she used to aspire to.

    I almost never buy nonfiction books. I never read the memoirs of politicians. I have never read any celebrity books. But I think I am going to read Palin’s book, which kinda horrifies me. But I won’t pay for it. I ‘ll get it from the public library. And I can’t wait to read it.

    I thought it was funny but sad that Sarah makes Ray Blanton look like a good governor because he at least planted some good economic seeds::

    (This excerpt taken from
    http://tennesseeencyclopedia.net/imagegallery.php?EntryID=B049)

    One of Tennessee’s most controversial governors, Blanton remained a politician who played the game to reward his friends and punish his enemies. His efforts on behalf of tourism and economic development, as well as state retirement security, contributed enormously to the general prosperity of the state. Nevertheless, the scandals eventually overwhelmed his reputation.

    That makes sense, her “higher calling” could be a wilderness reality show of AK, thereby increase tourism economy and perhaps more business moving here….(investing) here, and $arah will make money, take credit for it, and get to keep winking and blinking for the cameras,….and wipe out Levi’s chances for television…

    those comments are funny. I’ve always thought that there is nothing so fake and trite and speaking in “quotes of the day.” For some reason it reminds me of an English instructor I knew in community college. I was tutoring a bunch of his students because they were lost and confused. He was forcing them to write paragraphs and essays that began with “It is axiomatic that…” They also had to include in the essay their vocabulary words for the week, a complex sentence, a compound, complex sentence, a simple sentence, and one more type of sentence, I believe. As you can imagine, they were paralyzed. lol. It is axiomatic that English teachers like that should be fired. As should Sarah. She saved Alaska the trouble.

    Help me out, mudpuppies. You can see I live in Portland, Oregon, obviously, and I am SO trying to figure out HOW this woman can go on fundamental Christian values that she promotes, and go for the money. I am just floored. For all the websites you have given all day for blogs, I have read. This is money in her pocket, CERTAINLY not for the Lord. Think she’ll tithe? Sorry, God, for the thought. Judging. Sorry.

    I just don’t know what to say, except that she RAN with the “anointing” at her church and now she thinks she is the Second Coming in her mind. Is that a fair assessment? It’s obvious to me that there’s some self-importance there that I just do not see.

    Kinda like I have to defend myself as a NORMAL female.

    mae lewisNo Gravatar says:

    About those quotes in $arah’s twitter: Could this be something out of one of her journalism classes? It’s woman sardine can’s post that reminds me of some of writing 101′s rules which can be awkward. There is a rule of thumb for describing a subject, briefly noting hair, eyes, smile, demeanor. In the hands of a good writer, you have a sense of the subject. Used poorly, it’s like trying to put odd vocabulary words in a story where they don’t fit. She has taken quotes out of “Quotes for Dummies” or some equally profound reference book.

    Suggestions for $arah’s reality show: I read that Sarah is interested in doing a reality show out of Alaska, something that involves going out into the woods, shooting moose, the outdoor life. Remembering how happy she was when the motorcycle dudes made a special chopper for her, and the rifle people made a commemorative model for her. I envision something that involves all the things that we find on Bravo, TLC, Science channels, Discovery , A&E, namely: motorcycles, fishing, bounty-hunters, tattoos, cooking contests, fishing, getting dropped off nowhere to test survival skills, and most important of all– blowing stuff up!

    According to Rachel Maddow and her guest Jeff Sharlet, there are weird goings on concerning our Congress people and religion. Rachel reports that a house on “C” street in Washington D.C., is actually some form of church where seven of our Congressmen reside. The leader is a man named Doug Coe. They call themselves “The Family” or “The Christian Mafia” and they(Congressmen) are sworn to secrecy and are not allowed to talk about their affiliation with this group or its religios beliefs. They have strange religious preaching and teaching that teaches such things like, if you dont hate your mother, father, sister, brother etc., you cannot be following Jesus’ teachings.

    What is sort of odd is that Ensign and Sanford are reported to be affiliated with this group, and sometimes resides there, and both confided in the group about their infidelites and were helped finacially to try to help cover- up the affairs.

    This was supposed to have been” busted” wide open by Rachel’s guest, Jeff Sharlet, when he infiltrated the gtoup and lived among them for a while and has written a book entitled, “The Family”. Does anyone have any knowledge or any other information about this. This is really creepy!

    Just a few points I found…

    “Last year, in the space of eight weeks, the media said Palin was a Buchananite (she wasn’t), a member of the Alaska Independence Party (nope),”
    ============
    See what happens when “Nighline ” doesn’t do any fact checking.. their own words are used by someone else as a basis for fact.. the (nope)
    And it was the McCain camp SAID he was a member of the AIP…a FACT .

    “The governor and the legislature fought protracted battles over the replacement for Democratic state senator Kim Elton (appointed to the Obama administration) and stimulus money from the federal government. Civility with the legislature became untenable.”
    ============================
    All these ” protracted battles ” were a result of her NOT following the Rules and picking a Dem. for replacement and submitting her own GOP names.
    What was it… like 3 ‘fake ‘ Democrats she found..?

    “Another said that her wearing a T-shirt with the insignia of Todd Palin’s sponsor in the Iron Dog snow-machine race constituted a conflict of interest. “It’s a cold, outdoor event,” Palin said. “I’ve been wearing Arctic Cat gear for many years. I wear a Carhartt coat and commercial fishing bibs, too.”
    =======================
    There was NEVER a story anywhere where someone mentioned a ‘ T-shirt’..?… with an insignia. I guess this is attempt to show just a ‘ simple ‘ piece of clothing created this debate. NOT an insignia… basically a full body logo in a custom fitted OUTFIT.. with her name on it as well.

    “In late June, an Alaska Democratic blogger pasted the face of a pro-Palin radio talk-show host on the body of Palin’s son Trig. The governor’s camp released a withering statement, saying, “The mere idea of someone doctoring the photo of a special needs baby is appalling. To learn that two Alaskans did it is absolutely sickening. .  .  . Babies and children are off limits.” The blogger backtracked. She said she only had intended to ridicule the talk show host, like that made any difference.”
    ========================
    Even though they have it in ‘quotes ‘… notice there words have been changed from Megs ” an Iconic image desecrated ” to… “photo of a special needs child “. W o W!! How could they have gotten the ” quote ” wrong? Could they have done THAT on purpose?…. Yu betcha

  63. 65
    TealwominNo Gravatar says:

    “The closest Sarah’s come to admitting her true motivation happened on Monday when, while holding court on the beach at her husband Todd’s fishing site in Dillingham, she told the national press corps that “when all these lawmakers are lining up for office their desire would be to clobber the administration left and right so that they can position themselves for office” and that “I’m not going to let Alaskans go through a year of stymied, paralyzed administration and not getting anything done.”

    Translated from Palinese, what Sarah said was that the real reason she is quitting is that she understands that she’s lost control of the Alaska Legislature, a majority of whose members are fellow Republicans, many of whom hate her guts.

    Remember that Bush held prayer meetings every morning and all were required to attend.

    The Republican party has gone so far into the Religious category that they are definitely going to lose even more independent and moderates.

    The Republicans no longer represent a small government conservative party, but a religious evangelical party. Therein lies their division and why they continue to lose the true conservatives, who are left with only the Democratic Party to turn to, even if they don’t agree with big government.

    Some of the old time congressional members of congress try to keep to the old line of small government party, but as more and more of the junior republicans got elected, they were elected on the platform of morality. Unless you are a part of the evangelical movement, those politicians aren’t going to be appealing.

    Palin is a representative of the politicians who are running under the banner of the Republican party now and a good representative of why the party is in disarray and will continue to be.

    So I go to the ADN and, lo, and behold, Attorney General Daniel Sullivan disagrees with Tamara Cooke, the legislatures lead attorney, and says that Craig Campbell can serve as acting Lieutenant Governor and doesn’t need the Legislatures approval. Seems like somethings never change. The AG does disagrees with the legislature and rules in favor of the governor.
    ———
    I saw that. So his idea is Campbell resigns his position where he is?? Plays Acting LG until approved, which then ties the hands of the Legislature in that if they say no — what does he do. Is he able to take a leave of absence to play Acting LG?

    If he resigned and they didn’t approve — that leaves Campbell flapping in the wind. How considerate of Sullivan for thinking this through – NOT

    This tells me AG Sullivan has grey areas showing — not sure.

Point being that I am perfectly happy for every one to believe whatever they want to, makes no difference to me, but just because you believe something doesn’t make it true. So when polititians invoke the words of their Gods or Holy Books into the discourse of public policy they are out of bounds. Wasn’t it discussed before, that this crap he spits out each time is BS as it only applies to them with regard to confidentiality otherwise that is their attempt to silence the citizens:

    “Typically, the first action by these complainants has been an illegal one – to announce the filing of the complaints to the news media, in clear violation of the mandatory confidentiality in the law. Unfortunately, unlike the legislative ethics act, there is no provision in the executive ethics act for a complaint to be automatically dismissed when it is publicized prematurely. Sorry if this has already been posted (can’t keep up), but here is the full quote from Walter Cronkite that $he conveniently tweeted out of context (not that she would understand it anyway). It’s from an interview he gave in 1973:

    “I think that being liberal, in the true sense, is being nondoctrinaire, nondogmatic, noncomitted to a cause—but examining each case on its merits. Being left of center is another thing; it’s a political position. I think most newspapermen by definition have to be liberal; if they’re not liberal, by my definition of it, then they can hardly be good newspapermen.”

    On second thought, even if she did understand what Cronkite was actually saying, it would probably just reaffirm her contempt for the “liberal media”. His definition of liberal is the antithesis of her very being, not to mention there is no such thing as context in her black and white world. And that’s the way it isn’t… actually, also.

    By Joe Conason

    “But in late October 2008, the New York Times Sunday Magazine published an extraordinary and timely story that explained exactly how McCain had come to select Palin. According to that article, Schmidt had collaborated with Davis and Salter to promote Palin over several more qualified candidates — after a cursory background investigation that revealed almost nothing about her lack of knowledge, bizarre official conduct, and narcissistic temperament. When the three insiders presented her to a smitten, impetuous McCain, he accepted their judgment, ratified by Charlie Black, one of the most experienced Republican operatives in Washington…”

    Am glad to hear the tweet was a fake. In this whole political brou-ha-ha, it’s not surprising jokers will have a field day with quotes, whether philosophical or scriptural. Not a good idea to mix religion and politics. It almost always is counter-productive. Senders tend to sound self-righteous, whether they are or not, and it goads those who aren’t interested in hearing.

    I’ve been on a road, still learning, but I am always open to sharing some of my belief, when someone asks. If we are discussing a topic that brings religion into the mix, everyone chimes in. Am aware that so many here have different religious beliefs, and I respect them in their choice. Just to say that if someone were to offend by misquoting the Koran for a joke, I would be equally insulted for my friend who was a follower of Islam. And, I would comment here about my outrage.

    I think as mature thinkers, we would protect one another from hurtful digs if they come. To Sarah Palin’s credit, she didn’t send that tweet. She knows she must guard scripture carefully to her vest, so that it doesn’t become a mocking circus. But quoting scriptures will undoubtedly offend someone, making them feel guilty, and it’s not recommended to slap a person with a bible like a side of meat, especially when they are not interested.

    Usually a pastor will use scripture in a twitter account to cheer members or anyone reading up with comforting words, but he knows his readers well. He’s the guy who his members depend on to talk the talk as well as walk the walk.

    Here’s an interesting reader comment from a HuffPo article about a young republican candidate. Link below quote:

    “The things conservatives say against their imagined enemies, i.e. non-whites, religiously different, sexually non traditional, exposes their narrow minded bigotry, but when they come down on socialists, they condemn their own savior, Jesus Christ, who preached socialism as mandatory to salvation. Their contempt toward the teachings of Jesus Christ exposes their hypocrisy and disobedience to their own faith. They demand that the poor and needy NOT be cared for by the rich, while Christ specifically spoke to personal accumulation of wealth when He said, “Go, sell all that you have and give it to the poor, then you’ll have treasure in heaven.” & “No one can be my disciple who doesn’t give up all his own possessions.”

    They should never have mixed religion with government, since they have proven that they are loyal to neither.”

    Actually, I think the getting paid for TV and radio appearances ethics complaint actually IS #19; someone was counting wrong earlier. Earlier this week there was discussion that 15 had been dealt with (NOT all dismissed without, in spite of what Buttercup’d want you to think–there were those minor details of having to pay back $ for the kids’ travel and required ethics training for a staffer) and 3 were still pending (can’t remember which 3, though one must be the legality of the AFT…). So, that makes 18 already, and the newest is #19. SO glad they’ve finally learned to count up there.
