Open Thread – OK, I’m Really Going…

10 07 2009

OK, now I’m really going.

I’m throwing up this open thread for you to keep the series of tubes unclogged.

There will be a new post up in a couple hours with more details about Palin’s millllions.  I’ve also got open threads and fun little tidbits scheduled throughout the weekend, including the Gold Medal winner of the Sarah Palin Book Naming Contest in graphic form from flyinureye, live blogging with Shannyn Moore tomorrow afternoon, Troll of the Week and more!

Have fun Mudpuppies, and play nice!  ;-)

This is an excellent read. Found the link in the comments section over at HP. Sorry if someone already posted it. I can’t keep up with the comments here! :)

(can’t post but it was the baracudda one)

OMG! Wrong link. This is the one I meant to post (below). The barracuda link was in my clipboard to send to my ultra conservative father to discuss with him. Sorry! That one above is an intelligent read but not one I am sympathetic to. My Dad will love it and and we have extensive and heated debates over these things. Ha! It has already begun. I already have two emails from him railing on my comments

Am glad to hear the tweet was a fake. In this whole political brou-ha-ha, it’s not surprising jokers will have a field day with quotes, whether philosophical or scriptural. Not a good idea to mix religion and politics. It almost always is counter-productive. Senders tend to sound self-righteous, whether they are or not, and it goads those who aren’t interested in hearing.

I’ve been on a road, still learning, but I am always open to sharing some of my belief, when someone asks. If we are discussing a topic that brings religion into the mix, everyone chimes in. Am aware that so many here have different religious beliefs, and I respect them in their choice. Just to say that if someone were to offend by misquoting the Koran for a joke, I would be equally insulted for my friend who was a follower of Islam. And, I would comment here about my outrage.

I think as mature thinkers, we would protect one another from hurtful digs if they come. To Sarah Palin’s credit, she didn’t send that tweet. She knows she must guard scripture carefully to her vest, so that it doesn’t become a mocking circus. But quoting scriptures will undoubtedly offend someone, making them feel guilty, and it’s not recommended to slap a person with a bible like a side of meat, especially when they are not interested.

Usually a pastor will use scripture in a twitter account to cheer members or anyone reading up with comforting words, but he knows his readers well. He’s the guy who his members depend on to talk the talk as well as walk the walk.

Mature thinkers would never give Sarah Palin credit. Especially when it comes down to using God as an excuse to do whatever she wants to. Someone has not been paying attention.

On top of the fact that she’s a bigot and seems to have a Palinesque relationship with the truth and sentence structure, she is 38. That’s their “young” leader. (And I say that as someone several years older than she… but when your youthquake is middle-aged, that’s pathetic.)

I am confused about the 18/19 thingy also. The press release by Nizich http://www.gov.state.ak.us/news.php?id=1964 says “19″ and describes it as “a new level of absurdity in alleging that she has been paid for interviews that she has given to the news media”

Is my Birthday. Oh my, what a BD present $arah is delivering, the best present ever! And knowing mudpuppies will be having a pajama party up there to help celebrate.

My Sis in Phoenix is going to get such a giggle. She got such a charge to be the one to inform me of SP’s resignation, since I hadn’t yet turned on the news. I think we will both be simultaneously wearing our pjs to vicariously join the party.

Here’s an interesting reader comment from a HuffPo article about a young republican candidate. Link below quote:

“The things conservatives say against their imagined enemies, i.e. non-whites, religiously different, sexually non traditional, exposes their narrow minded bigotry, but when they come down on socialists, they condemn their own savior, Jesus Christ, who preached socialism as mandatory to salvation. Their contempt toward the teachings of Jesus Christ exposes their hypocrisy and disobedience to their own faith. They demand that the poor and needy NOT be cared for by the rich, while Christ specifically spoke to personal accumulation of wealth when He said, “Go, sell all that you have and give it to the poor, then you’ll have treasure in heaven.” & “No one can be my disciple who doesn’t give up all his own possessions.”

They should never have mixed religion with government, since they have proven that they are loyal to neither.”

Kath the Scrappy from Seattle: We will definitely have to have a Board Party on the 25th celebrating the resignation. Cyber fireworks, cyber cake and cyber drinks for all! It should be a fun day. Thank you also too. Yes, that will be the most perfect way to enjoy my day. Actually, my Sis feels like a ‘lonely little petunia in an onion patch’ usually. Gay Dem down in redneck Phx.

But she sure pulled in a LOT of votes for Obama, even got family members changing their voter registrations from Rep to Dem in order to vote for him. She’s not really computer savvy, don’t think I could pull her into the ‘flats, but she sure loves hearing all my stories from here.

Actually, I think the getting paid for TV and radio appearances ethics complaint actually IS #19; someone was counting wrong earlier. Earlier this week there was discussion that 15 had been dealt with (NOT all dismissed without, in spite of what Buttercup’d want you to think–there were those minor details of having to pay back $ for the kids’ travel and required ethics training for a staffer) and 3 were still pending (can’t remember which 3, though one must be the legality of the AFT…). So, that makes 18 already, and the newest is #19. SO glad they’ve finally learned to count up there.

In Juneau: I left a comment the other day wanting to get the opinions of those who live there on the Kensington Mine deal. How do people in Juneau feel about the lake being used for “fill”? Like I said before, I know there are always 2 sides to every story. Just wondering seeing how Buttercup and L murkowski are all jazzed about the court decision. Thanks

    InJuneau Says:

lovemydogs–I’m not happy about it, nor are many of my friends I suppose, but then again we’re the type who hang out here… Jobs are good and all, but they had a less damaging (though more expensive for them) option that was permitted and they could have opened the mine a few years ago using that or another option that was also less damaging. With the current SCOTUS though, I’m not surprized at the outcome.

  30. 180
    lovemydogs Says:

Oh–Of course it gets spun as more jobs. But is a lake really worth 370 jobs? And how many of the people working that mine actually live there? Is it like the Slope where many of the workers just fly in from outside?

I just cry for my planet.

Any real dog lover who reads this very well-written article will most certainly appreciate how the author was able to express so well in words why dog lovers love their dogs so much and how much dogs really need us as they get old. Read the heart warming comments at the end of the article, too.

    Enjoy!
