July 17th, 2009 at 4:45 PM
Love eachother, take care of eachother, let the cr@p go.

Live chat? Thanks Shannon and Zyggy!

shannyn, the full quote is:
“I think that being liberal, in the true sense, is being nondoctrinaire, nondogmatic, noncomitted to a cause—but examining each case on its merits. Being left of center is another thing; it’s a political position. I think most newspapermen by definition have to be liberal; if they’re not liberal, by my definition of it, then they can hardly be good newspapermen.”
July 17th, 2009 at 4:46 PM
otay, on my way
July 17th, 2009 at 4:47 PM
Cronkite likely meant that the role of a journalist is to question the status quo. Truly, that is the role of a journalist. Only by questioning what is going on can you shed light on it, weigh it, give it a value and then move it in the best direction.

Canadian Neighbour
That was a two-parter –
“Anxious for Fairbanks radio visit tomorrow re: 2nd Amendment! We have rockin’ surprise guest. Candidly, I love radio vs some newspapers bc ‘most newspapermen by definition have to be liberal; if they’re not, by my definition, they can hardly be good newspapermen’ W. Cronkite”
No surprise that the The Twit doesn’t like anything that can be labeled liberal, but she – Communications degree and all – actually had the gall to equate right-wing radio hacks with serious journalists.

Thanks Closet Mudpup. When you try & do a quick search, because of her twitter quote, trying to find what was the actual quote was a pain as Palin pops to the top because of the traffic right now on her crap.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:01 PM
I could slap the twit, but going to let the cr@p go, just like the problem child recommends.
next roundup on Shannyn Moore Show.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:05 PM
Shannyn I know you love catching silvers more. =)
July 17th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Rob, Tewise, Ziggy and other contributors – thank you! I couldn’t get this channel for some reason. Didn’t want to interupt and just read – Good job Shannyn thanks for getting some of the issues out there.
RIP Walter Cronkite. You were a true icon and deserve to be respected by the world.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Great show Shannyn! Thank you live bloggers. Just as Walter Cronkite had a famous sign-off, perhaps so should Shannyn. A signature ending to each show. I like “……and a message to Sarah Palin, suck it up buttercup!” I think, unfortunately, that message will be relevant for years to come.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:08 PM
Congratulations Shannyn on winning the Netroots scholarship and also for a great show on the radio. I only heard the last hour of it but it was really good!
Pittsburgh will never be the same after you and AKM are done there! I look foward to seeing lots of pics of the party since I unfortunately live too far away to join in.

Lori in Los Angeles Says:
I think, unfortunately, that message will be relevant for years to come.
—————————————————————————
Bite your tongue! Please, please make her irrelevant, and only a post script, in the political history of the USA!
July 17th, 2009 at 5:11 PM
Lori,
I like Shannyn’s sign-off:
“I’m just a girl from Homer, painting a red State blue, one stroke at a time”

Nite, Mudpups. Grandbabies in the A.M.

CNN has no business reporting on Walter Cronkite. He was a true journalist and reporter. I have not watched CNN since the day John King interviewed Dick Cheney following the election and sat there shaking his head like one of those dolls you hang in your rear window of your car. Yes, um huh. Yes, um huh. I lost what little respect I had (and it wasn’t much) for CNN and especially John King. I will tell them this! They are so far below the standard Cronkite held and practiced.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:40 PM
Canadian Neighbor: AGREED! That is a great sign-off for Shannyn – I did not hear the show, so I did not know she already had a “signature sign-off.”
Love it!
July 17th, 2009 at 5:47 PM
justafarmer – thanks for posting Walter Cronkite’s full quote. Much appreciated.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:52 PM
oh, great news about your roomie, akm, you’ll both have a grand time.
July 17th, 2009 at 6:02 PM
G’Night all. Thanks everyone for all you do. (((Puppies)))
July 17th, 2009 at 6:31 PM
Peggy Pierce,
I’m not the CNN lover either. They too have become part of the cable-entertainent instead of news. Too many opinions and far too much speculation — all done over and over and over — they OCD a story now when there is nothing new for a week.
But, for US news, that’s all I’ve got other than the NBC, ABC, CBS evening hour news.
CNN is including calls and interviews with many of the people who worked with, associated with Cronkite.
Morley Safer, right now Bernard Shaw who is someone I liked at the old CNN days, Bob Schefer, Katie Couric, Sam Donaldson, Brian Williams and many others. A woman Susan Zirinsky, who was a young researcher in Cronkite’s newsroom and now works on 60 minutes, talked and showed Cronkite’s script of the night Nixon resigned with all his hand-wring as Cronkite was a packrat but had tossed it in the trashbin and she picked it out and kept it in her desk.
CBS is doing a special on Sunday night.

Here is the entire Playboy interview with Walter Cronkite.
RIP Uncle Walter!

justafarmer….yeah, thanks….somebody should twitter palin up side her head for using a partial quote to run her agenda
July 17th, 2009 at 7:03 PM
Dr. Patois…..thanks for that link. I share your sentiments.
RIP Uncle Walter!
I grew up watching the news when there were only 3 channels. I’m getting a bit OT here, but his passing is a big deal to those of us of a certain age.
Back to OT….
Shannyn…..Woo Hoooooooooo!!!!
July 17th, 2009 at 7:23 PM
CBS is entitled to do their specials on Walter Cronkite. And he was the most trusted person – he saw us through so many significant events. Thank you Mr. Cronkite.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:24 PM
WC was the voice of our age, seattlefan. He was the one I remember from the Kennedy assassination, the landing on the moon and so many other milestones. The Journalism school at ASU here in Arizona is named for him.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Nobody in the chatroom?
July 17th, 2009 at 7:31 PM
WC was brave! I remember him interviewing the BlkPanther Party members – back in the day…even they respected him…I go gotta find it now…
July 17th, 2009 at 7:36 PM
I grew up with Walter Cronkite. My father was a newsman in the 50s & 60s and I grew up to be a newswoman.
Cronkite was on whom I patterned my reporting skills and Ernest Hemingway was who I learned how use words sparingly (I believe I could do a 140 word twitter that could tell a story and make sense, thanks to lessons learned from Hemingway).
July 17th, 2009 at 7:39 PM
gramian…I’m sitting over in chat right now
