The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Open Thread – ZZZZZZ.

It’s been a non-stop busy day since early this morning.

I’ve been working on a wrap-up post about the governor’s picnic, but I’ve nodded off twice while typing it, so it’s going to have to wait until tomorrow.

It’s Abdication Eve here in AK, and at 2pm, the clock will strike, and we’ll begin a new era.

But for now, I’m making the long climb up the stairs…

Night Mudglatters! Enjoy the open tread.   (yawn)

So I heard a little about how S.P. was famous in Wasilla and yet Anchorage had less “supporters” .. Is that why the Wasilla folk got the weiners (the cheapest food you can feed a crowd with) and a roll outta bed sweatshirt get up and Anchorage got the purple queen jacket and beehive, wind swept look and Moose Burgers?
Dunno.. if I was a Wassilian.. I’d be a little peeved.. shouldn’t they get the special treatment since she was raised there?
I guess the picnic today (with all the media fan fare) we will see her this time fancy shirt , fancy hair, fancy food and this time she will be doning a skirt and some fancy heels..
Those she thinks she has under her thumb (Wasilla) you can see where her heart is.. eh not much respect. But.. when she is out to woo she sparks up the appearance. Wonder if Fairbanks will see a rebirth of the hair extensions as well.. she’s transparent alright.. but not in a good way

    one more
Was thinking about why her base makes my head spin
(well those that I meet in real life and those on blogs.. think the PeePee’s)

Sarah Palin is either a tough as nails sock it to ‘em kindof down home gal that isn’t afraid to throw a few punches
She may say some harsh things from time to time.. may not be the most honest politician but hey! it’s all politics! Gotta do what you gotta do..
One tough lady!! Go Sarah .. go Sarah

    Or
She is a servant heart humble bible thumpin’ lover of her family and all that is good in this world… Any bad media is a misinterpretation of the loving woman she truly is and is evil and spins things.. How can anyone not see what a most precious soul she is? Go Sarah…

See where it gets mind boggling is they try to join these two! One story and they are hootin and hollering about her grit… another story is all about how she doesn’t deserve this!

Sarah is two faced (and neither face is genuine) … and in order to support her one must go back and forth between these two views of her which doesn’t connect

So I was thinking about why I find S.P.’s “base” mind boggling
From people I meet in real life and writings on blogs (think the Peer’s)

They either see Sarah as a tough as nails home grown girl not afraid to put up a fight to defend what is right. She’s got spirit and drive .. may say some kindof harsh vindictive things from time to time.. or eh perhaps she isn’t the most honest politician out there but hello! you gotta do what you gotta do.. she is a fighter.. woot! Sarah!

    the other

She is a humble meek servant hearted family means the world to her lady. She has a huge heart and just spreads love. People can’t see it.. they pick her to death! The media and liberals are evil spin the truth… she is an angel from heaven. Why can’t the rest of the world see??? She loves kids, disabled people, the poor soldiers, she loves Jesus!

The mindboggling part comes in when they try to mesh the two “personalities” The only way they can do it and still follow her because she “portrays” both (neither persona is genuine)

  8. 8
    wayneyNo Gravatar says:

    sorry LAST! i promise
Fat fingers clicked before I finished

When I say “mesh” the personalities I mean when one article on her comes out they defend her by saying the girl’s got GRIT! Go get ‘em Cuda Grizzly girl!

Then another comes out and their defense is… What is it with the media?? She is a kind hearted soul and doesn’t deserve this!!! Leave her alone! Poor Sarah.. I wanna hug her so bad. Let me pray for her

What is she .. a turn the other cheek true Christian or an Annie Get your Guns and fight til’ there is blood?

wayney – It will be interesting to see how she dresses and behaves today. Maybe some fancy pageant walking, eh? The Anchorage purple queen costume sure rubbed me the wrong way. CNN advertised live coverage for Fairbanks so I will be watching.

    BuffaloGalNo Gravatar says:

Omigawd – the MSM is doing it again and using her tweets as mini press releases ! Norah O’Donnell’s in Fairbanks and they led off the segment using the ” 7 hr rd trip w/ kids and country music” tweet. Gak! Then they had clips from the Wasilla and Anchorage picnics and THEN they added :

“And NBC has learned that Sarah Palin has raised more than One Million Dollars through her political action committee. ”

and some commentator said that she shouldn’t be ruled out because the polls are showing her doing well.

I just woke up and she’s already made me tired.

Saw a picture of Sarah at the Wasilla picnic carrying a copy of Mike Levin’s Liberty Tyranny. The person who posted the picture was trying to point out what a great choice of reading material Palin had picked. My first thought was who would take a book to picnic where you are the hostess and there are hundreds of people in attendance. I think it was Sarah’s attempt to show off…look I can and do read. Bet she hasn’t even opened it.

And UGH! ABC is quoting her twitter of last week when she used the country western lyrics about “ain’t gonna shut my mouth.” And then they went on AGAIN about other twitters. Geeez!!

They also had a clip of Todd saying that “it’s been an awesome experience” with a fake smile plastered on his face. (boy did he look a little ragged )

And pearl89, absolutely agree – she was posin’ with her conservative manifesto book for da cameras. Maybe she’s reading it on the long drive to Fairbanks while hummin to her heaven sent country tunes.

I have a feeling she’ll go for dressed down again. The news folks seemed to make a big deal about her casual, home town picnic outfits. They made specific mention of her Patriots hoodie. She might get more play out of a “I’m just regular people now” look.

And re: Long Island – MTV studios are right there . Maybe she’s gonna be a VJ !

And Wayney – I so hear you about being boggled by her base. I have been thinking about this a lot lately.

I think part of the answer might be in that her version of Christianity is much less “turn the other cheek” and much more “warriors for Christ”. A lot of the apostolic / 7 mountains mandate sermons actually talk about the how the Christians of the past 2000 years have gotten it wrong and there’s a new wave of “fight the enemy and take no prisoners” Christians. They’re really big o the “warrior ” thing . The Wasilla Bible Church and Wasilla AG where she was raised are both very much that way. And when they say she’s got a servant’s heart, they’re referencing a willingness to embrace, “if i perish, i perish” rather than the traditional image of Jesus and the washing of the feet of the apostles. I’m still in the very beginning of delving in to this stuff but that’s what I’m getting , so far.

Time for Meet the Press. Hillary’s starting off the hour.

She talked about having to deal with N. Korea as you would with a precocious child who is making unreasonable, ranting demands. I’m sure N. Korea just loves that analogy!

Y’know, I still have no strong feeling about Hillary in either direction but she sure is a smart gal. You can see her brain working, the dots being connected, the analytical gears in motion and everything coming out in measured, thoughtful and complete sentences. That McCain’s camp ever thought they could use Palin to fill the Hillary vacuum is beyond laughable ! For those who get Meet the Press later in the morning, it’s certainly worth the watch. Nothing earth shattering but it’s nice to listen to her speak well.

Samper – I often wonder how many Homer Simpson, “DOH!” moments McCain has gone through the past months. I truly hope he realizes what he put in to motion.

Hillary’s doing the full hour on Meet the Press – towards the end she’s talking about the current dysfunctional health care system, giving Obama credit for taking it on right off the bat, he’s making a very strong case for reform, she’s encouraged by what she’s hearing in Congress ( though I must be missing something there ) , runs the recent standard talking points about it , “change starts out slowly and then gains steam” – Moves on then to talk up the president and seems genuinely respectful and admiring of him. Overall, a good interview, IMO. (and not one syllable about Sarah!! huzzah!)

For some reason I’ve been unsuccessful in posting for weeks now, but with the shiny open thread I can’t resist trying to weigh in on some of the discussion over possible state criminal charges relating to the ironically-named-Trust.

When not quilting, I happen to practice criminal law, and have some expertise in how to build a white collar case. I just don’t think it’s much of a stress to consider one. Criminal intent routinely is proved by inference in such cases, beginning (and often ending) with who gains financially.

For example, Alaska has a “scheme to defraud” provision that echoes federal mail fraud law. Upholding criminal convictions under state law in Knix v. Alaska, the Alaska court noted that the state “scheme to defraud provision” is based on what is “commonly referred to as the mail fraud statute,” 18 U.S.C. & No. 21; 1341 (1970), revised in Code & No. 21; 1437 95th Cong., 1st Sess. & No. 21; 1734 (1977).

Commentary on the Alaska Revised Crimincal Code (Senate Journal Supplement 47 [1978]) recognizes the parallel federal law as “an effective tool in the area of consumer frauds. ” A “scheme to defraud,” under Alaska law, like the federal cognate, describes what is necessaruly purposeful conduct without needing to spell out “the applicable culpable mental state: ‘Whoever, having devised or intending to devise any scheme or artifice to defraud, or for obtaining money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises . . . [uses the mail commits a felony].’ 18 U.S.C. & No. 21; 1341.

I’ll pause to mention that people routinely are charged as criminal conspirators when there is evidence that such a “scheme or artifice to defraud” involved the active participation of more than one person.

The phrase “scheme to defraud. . .necessarily implies specific intent.” However, that specific intent clearly is provable through inference, from all relevant facts and circumstances (because rarely, if ever, does a criminal defendant admit to possessing the requisite specific criminal intent). Moreover, in Knix v. Alaska the reviewing court upheld the convictions even when the trial judge had not instructed the jury that it had to find a specific intent to defraud”: a finding of knowing participation in a scheme to defraud necessarily established the requisite criminal intent.

Trying to boil down the point: I do not think it would be the least bit difficult to persuade a jury to find an intent to defraud under a variety of criminal laws if presented with a hypothetical case in which (1) a person announces she has, say, half-a-million dollars in specific legal debt; (2) a fund is set up that makes representations that donations will go towards paying that specific legal debt; and (3) there is evidence that the debt was not in fact as described when enticing donations towards its payment, and/or the donations were not used as represented when people relied on representations that caused them to part with their money.

I’ve tried and won white collar cases which were far, far more difficult to prove.

Keep in mind (also, too) that when charging a criminal scheme, ordinarily there are lower-level parties and there are obvious parties who stand to gain financially. Given conspiracy/joint venture law, there can be interesting permutations in a criminal case once a lower-level participant is charged, or even made a target of a grand jury investigation.

Biden was a senior foreign affairs person and was fully aware of the Bosnia Serb conflict (genocide) by several trips on the ground and talks with our military commanders. No European country wanted to touch the situation. Biden could not get support from Congress to help. The UN wasn’t responding. In a nutshell, Clinton was a new president, and it was a big step for the U.S. to take leadership and get involved. Many congress people were saying it would be another Vietnam, they were finally won over by Biden’s persistence. — Anyway, reading comment above about Hillary made me think to write about her husband. NObody tells the Queen what to do!! I’d love to see her climb those stairs in a skirt and heels and fall flat on her butt. It will be someones fault, right.

His parents moved to LaJolla, and his mom was always so embarassed when we visited because of our VW Van being parked at their home with the swimming pool. Eventually her hoity-toity became relaxed, but yes Long Island lifestyle generally is superficial and snobby. (BTW, my former in laws, worked and saved to get to that social level. Then I was thinking about her adoring minions and the way they really don’t see that her speeches are nothing more than parroting phrases that she finds appealing , interspersed with her favorite church words. From there my brain jumped to the Dead Parrot sketch from Python. (in my head, it was a logical jump)

If you’re a fan, watch it again up to the 3 minute mark and imagine a conversation between a Palin devotee who is insisting that the bird most certainly isn’t dead and, in fact, is an amazing creature – and the John Cleese character is a mudpuppy trying desperately to get across the point that “THIS is a DEAD parrot! Geez, what is all this talk about SP moving to the Hamptons? I see this query popping in and out of threads lately.

If the Palin family is going to have a base down south, it would probably be in Texas. Texans and Alaskans get along famously because both groups think they live in the biggest state. Only Alaskans are correct, though – but Texans are used to havin’ that big state swagger down there! We get lots of Texans up here, they are good travelers and overall are great people to have as tourists. They tend to be in no big hurry, talkative about their home and usually very gracious in that western sort of way.

The Hamptons? You’ve got to be kidding. I doubt you would find many Alaskans who would ever subject themselves to such a contrived atmosphere and ever be the least bit happy. Even Naughty Quitter Monkey would be miserable is such a place. Oil and water…

She will be laughed at every single day
She will probably turn to the Prozac and booze

“Stapleton said the answer will emerge in coming weeks:

‘On July 27, we’ll sit down and say, ‘OK, here are your options. How do you now want to effect that positive change for Alaska from outside the role as governor?”

“… the vacuum of what was best for Alaska..” WTF does that mean?

I sincerely hope that the rumors of a move to LI are just a bit of farfetched gossip. I was born and raised on LI and vacationed several summers in Hampton Bays as a kid. That was the ‘poor man’s’ Hamptons (as opposed to East or South Hampton) and regular people could fit in just fine back then (35+ years ago). However, the entire area has become a playground for the VERY rich and very famous in the past couple of decades. I cannot see any way that the Palin clan would fit in with that level of society, assuming that they could scrape together several million dollars to buy a home. Kinda refutes the “poor li’l ‘ol me with all of my crushing debts” story!

You tend to have either very old money or new money that is of the multi-milionaire variety (think Billy Joel, Steven Spielberg, Martha Stewart, Jerry Seinfeld). I can’t quite see the Palins pallin’ around with these kinds of people. The kids would be lost and Todd would have no oil fields or snow machine races to escape to. There is a lot of fishing in the area but of a very different sort than he’s used to. She might be a queen in Wasilla but she’d be a joke in the Hamptons.

Doesn’t the AFT have to come down today? If not down, doesn’t it have to be changed to reflect the fact she is no longer governor? And the wording would have to be changed to something like – Please donate to Sarah Palin because she’s pretty and she hates spending her own money when she can spend yours. Her move to the Hamptons will cost the Palins several million dollars and now that both she and Todd (it’s a long communte to the North Slope from Long Island) are out of work they really need your money more than you. So, please, give generously to help the Palins fight off those frivilous banks and pesky mortgage companies. For each contribution over $10,000, you will receive a handwritten note (from somebody) and a picture of Sarah (in her naughty monkeys) and Todd (in his silk boxers).

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2009/07/next_alaska_gov_key_challenges.html

And then after admitting this, he goes on to restate that Palin complaint of it’s costing millions and making it hard for “state agencies” to do their work!

It’s just gone too far. She cannot claim all these expenses when she has a book deal of millions. If she feels that her book earnings should not go towards the costs of ethical complaints, well then she has to separate the cost of the ethics complaint she filed against herself. Also, too, her attorney needs to submit a bill to AK for the amounts he can be paid from AK. He still hasn’t done that, because I bet, It’s all Troopergate.

There seems to be all these ‘ rumors’ out there that $arah might move to NY. The only thing that makes this sort of a move logical is that it puts her in a position close to Murdock and Faux News or to be a frequent Guest or pundit on the Shows there. What would her and her ‘ Family ‘ be doing in that ‘off air ‘ ( the other 90% ) time. She still has two young kids in school, Piper and Willow. Would the two kids in School fit in there anywhere…?
Because $arah’s only positive image talking point right now is that $he is about the Family.( but we know better )

$arah needs that adulation and people around her cheering her. She can’t survive without it. The AK blogs got under her skin and she HAD TO (in Her Mind ) respond… what would the NY Press say. It seems she needs the Press adulation AND people around her at all times pumping her up. NO one in NY will be impressed. She would be that little fish in a big pond. Her ego would not survive. Plus she needs to resurrect her reputation.

Doesn’t it make sense that the ONLY place she would get that positive adulation from the Press and the local followers where she will mingle in the crowds with her ‘ winkin ‘ is ” Texas “..? ( sorry austintx)

She says she will work towards electing other GOP ers. Isn’t Perry , where she had previously endorsed Him and he showed her support be the only State where she will get positive feedback. She seems to be a negative everywhere now… except with those same seccionists thinkers. They love their beauty pageant Queens, their Guns, talk of Independence, that accent and folksy winkin talk is even a positive and not a turn- off. And all those new found Friends in the ‘ oil business ‘ can shower her with the $$$$$$. ( Because at this time.. it is ALL about the Money)
It seems like Texas is the only State that would accept her and all her faults, get the $$$ she wants and at the same time do those political speechs/fundraisers and she pageant walks across the stage for Perry trying to resurrect her image as someone who can raise money for the GOP.
And the Kids in School would be at home there…. and Todd.

Well, Palin is already rich, her groupies just don’t know it, but that 4 million dollars is already in the bank and she can access it as soon as she is no longer Governor. Which is why financially and morally it makes no sense for her to be so pitiful about the AFT, except she doesn’t want to use her book money to pay the lawyer fees. Talk about greedy. sheez
    * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** *
Has this been confirmed? If it is in the bank, she will still have to report it, on her next (and last) form to the APOC. A public document. We’ll all be able to see how much she got. Delicious!

Bet you anything though they got the check but haven’t deposited it yet.

Sarah’s To Do List, Monday, July 27th

    1. Make coffee
    2. Meeting w/Todd, Meg and Tom Re: how I want to effect positive change for Alaska outside the office of Governor
    3. Have Ivy and Bristol fill out most of the APOC forms for me
    4. Go to bank. Make big deposit.

However, as we’ve already discussed, that money is considered ‘received’ as of the day of delivery, NOT the day it’s opened, not the day it’s deposited. She still has to report it.

My first theory was that she quit because she found out how much the advance would be but knew she wouldn’t be able to really take it if she were still Governor. My theory also included that it was to be sent early August, so she had to be out by late July.

If she HAS already got the check, deposited or otherwise …. ai ai ai, la chica es loco! (don’t ask me where that came from all of the sudden!).

It would be a really bad move on her part NOT to disclose it if she got it. She’d be asking for another ethics complaint, and one filed would not be frivolous. If I were an Alaskan, I’d file that one myself.

In fact, why doesn’t some savvy Alaskan get the forms and start to work on the paperwork so it will be all ready to file the minute the APOC reports are made public and there’s no big book deal money listed as ‘received’.

I really really hope Sarah or her ‘operatives’ are reading this (and report it back to her) – Sarah, actually follow the rules about this, don’t try to get around them. If you try to get around the rules, you deserve everything that happens in consequence of your actions (including having to pay for any defense or penalties out of your own pocket). It will not be someone else’s fault if an ethics complaint is filed against you for this, it will be yours. Yours, yours, yours.

Can’t remember who posted this earlier, but if its true, it explains the reason for moving to NY. Very enlightening… Also, I would think the fast move date of August 1st would be to get the kids in school. I think young girls will love all the new dress up and new school. I am not so sure that since she QUIT (resigned) her position, that she is, in fact, entitled to be addressed as ‘Govenor’ or even ‘Former Govenor’. Then again, as long as she wasn’t FIRED by a state legislature (that was too affraid to rally against her when the need arose), that she can still claim the title. You can even hear her… ‘I wasn’t fired, I wasn’t impeached, I wasn’t recalled or even censured… I left on good terms. I was elected to the position, therefore I am entitled to be refered to as such.’ She may have that on a technicality. Also why did she puff herself up stating the state of AK had to pay for lots of protection for the picnics. She never received any threats that I heard about.
    * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** *
The whole family seems to like ‘exaggeration’ to make themselves seem tougher or more put upon than anyone else.
Chuck Heath’s “must be 100,000 letters we haven’t opened”; Todd’s “I turn up the sauna to 200 degrees, but that’s too hot for Sarah”; Sarah’s “The frivolous lawsuits have cost Alaskans nearly $2 million and our family’s legal bills are nearly $600,000″.

    I’ve got more. I won’t go on.

But yes, I was wondering what Eddie Burke was getting so rabid about in his tweets yesterday. He said the extra security was needed because of people like Linda, Andree and Shannyn, and then ‘commanded’ his followers to call in to her show. They either didn’t or got screened.

Sarah has no reason to think she needs any security for herself and her family other than what would normally be provided a governor and entourage. Unless she did get a threat from a nutjob, but that would not have been Linda, Andree or Shannyn.

What Eddie fails to understand is that when there are Ethics processes in place that work correctly and people feel they do have recourse to hold their leaders accountable, they do not resort to acts of violence.

All these ethics complaints have at least shed the light on how the current process is flawed and can get a good debate going that will result in positive change – yes, perhaps I being optimistic, but at this point, why not be?

Meanwhile, Linda, Andree and Shannyn, and others, are working WITHIN THE LAW and are not trying to step outside of it or advocate that others do.

Sarah and family have nothing to fear from these three any more than any other AK constituent, and it is wrong of Eddie Burke to suggest she should be, or that the additional security was needed because of them.

Not a very interesting piece from the Christian Science Monitor but it’s worth a look at the photo of Palin in her regal purple , looking very much to me like a maniacal version of “I Dream of Jeannie” Her arms are crossed like she’s ready to blink herself RIGHT the heck outta Dodge and you can see crazed plans running wildly through her head.

@179 The Rubber Room Hotel – I so hear that about it being terribly sad that there are some really good, honest, down-to-earth Christians that just don’t know the real story. The extreme groups will follow Palin straight off the lemming cliff but this other group might have seen the light if it had been there. I’ve switched to viewing the site exclusively in Mozilla and I also updated my IE to the latest version. I haven’t had the problem since I did that. I run two virus programs on my computer so I’m not so sure it’s a malware problem (although sure looks like one).

Very frustrating because I love Grphen’s site, especially to link to all the other sites because he keeps everything listed by latest updates.

Regarding Palin: I woke up this morning and discovered I don’t hate her as much as I did. I this it really will be better if she isn’t in charge of anything but herself. Whatever her reasons for quitting and I’m sure they are self-motivated for monetary reasons or possibly to avoid potential legal problems (or both), I think she did the right thing for Alaska and America by quitting.

I remember well the frustration a few months ago of many Alaskans, that impeaching her was a next to impossible task, therefore to have her up and quit was really an answer to many prayers.

I think the reason she rankles so many of us is because she is just so blatant in her hypocrisy, her greed, her dishonesty and especially her complete lack of interest in anything or anyone but her own self-interests. In a way she is a just a completely evolved caricature of a modern politician. She just threw aside all the pretense and never left any doubt that her true motives had very little to do with bettering the people she was voted to serve.

But sadly, I can see her skating out of office completely unblemished. The ethics charges will be swept under the carpet, the status of any donation funds will be ignored and forgotten, the MSM will start kissing up to her again and pretty soon she will be everywhere. There is even a slim possibly that she could resurrect her image and emerge as the ‘comeback kid’ ala RMN.

But fortunately as long as they don’t take her Crackberry away I think it will be okay. She will be sending her daily fix(es) of spewed nonsense that will keep her unique gift of total cluelessness front and center. I sincerely hope that she will never fade from sight long enough for anyone to forget how uninformed, shallow and completely unqualified she really is.

I find no satisfaction on GINO leaving on her own accord. What a scam. I try to think why i feel so uneasy and i go back to her convention speech… great delivery, she looked polished, beautiful. There was a smile with a snark, a sugary tone to disparaging remarks, an ugly soul on a beautiful, expensive jacket…..a pit bull with a pearl necklace but i didn’t know that yet, she went on the stump and kept on stumping, that was my first clue of a scam so I google her, and felt so smart, so relieved and confident she would be exposed. I was wrong, she went on and lost just like any other candidate would, her future was bright.

The best man won and i got to have coffee at the Mudflats, lurking around having wine and chocolate, gum or popcorn, whatever the occasion called to go with the wonderful hospitality of AKM and all of you. Now GINO was just an irritant of outrageous proportion and she would by stopped, AKs would strip her facade…….no so fast. She quits…..there is a storm, sure the other shoe will drop……nope. She is leaving on her accord with her belief that decency is just a mirage still intact. She is an ordinary citizen now, and that’s a good thing.

That said, I’d like to know why anyone would think Sarah would bring the rest of the family along. Any move wouldn’t be a move in residence; she’ll keep Wasilla as her permanent residence. However, if there is an area where she is going to be spending some occasional time on a regular basis, I can see her getting something there just for her and leaving the rest of the family behind. Too much trouble to pack up the entire brood, take them out of school and haul them someplace for a few days. She’ll leave them behind with Todd and Bristol and Willow to take care of the younger ones. Palin has never impressed me as being particularly mothering and nurturing. She’s all about *her*. All of us here have our own little story about how we came to find Mudflats… and why we stay. AKM had the Brad radio interview Thursday this week telling listeners about how almost overnight she was overwhelmed ‘ with her little blog ‘ once $arah was picked as the VP choice. Living off that famous Flax cereal and stuck to the keyboard around the clock. And then the open thread about ” Time Machine-One year ago Today” yesterday really made me want to find out the history and sort of make a trip back in time in that ” time machine “. I made part of that journey last night after the thread got quiet and I am glad I did.

It was very interesting and Fun. Hindsight is 20/20 also. AKM had it right then and the comments from people who were Palin supporters back then are still using the same arguements today to try to support her. Rather shocking. THAT is very strange….. especially since all this evidence is now out there. It doesn’t seem to matter to them. You will have to figure that out on your own….. blind ideology or whatever you want to call it. The things they were saying about Obama back then they are also still saying as well as to what his qualifications are and such. History and time have proven them wrong, But they are still sticking to their ideas.

I think you will enjoy the journey like me. I read for 2 hours and didn’t get to read all of them, but 3:00 said it was time for bed. This is the link that was posted the 2nd day after McCains announcement. Read and enjoy…. knowing that you already have the answers to the ( test ) questions that were being asked back then. I almost felt like I was cheating on the test ;-)

BTW : The early posts AKM posted had a few comments 1, 3, 8, or 10. I was looking for names I would recognize. Congrats to Mudflatter ” saur kraut ” who was about the 3rd person to post that morning looking to find out who Sarah Palin was. saurkraut was on this early , called the shot and got it right early and posted this……

Those claims are contradicted by records released under the Alaska Public Records Law and interviews with administration and other sources. While I agree she’ll be able to gin up the crazies and command the attention of the Washington media, methinks assigning her a position of tremendous power is a mistake for the very reason cite:

    She is not an elitist.

The upper echelons of the Republican Party may not be able to ignore her, but neither are they going to turn over the reigns of power to a loose cannon like her. This is why the Bush family is behind Mitt Romney.

Palin will prove useful until she is no longer useful, in which case you will see the media take a completely different tone.

Alaska high court recommends Bethel judge get 3-month suspension
District Court Judge Dennis Cummings is the first judge in state history to be suspended, according to the director of the Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct.
The 62-year-old survived a retention vote last year even though the Alaska Judicial Council made biting criticisms about his overall performance and recommended his removal.
Cummings would have received a six-month suspension but the court found several mitigating factors. Cummings was new to the bench, [HUH?] apologized for his error, has a reputation for honesty and has no prior disciplinary record, according to court records.
